The Porsche GT3 RS is a special, performance-focused Porsche. It’s built to be very fast and very “track” oriented, and here it’s used as the turning point for the hosts’ viral video idea.
Term
road traffic accident
A road traffic accident just means a car crash on the road. They’re describing how quickly things turned dangerous.
“Viral videos” are videos that get shared a lot and spread quickly online. The hosts are saying their content started doing that after a key moment changed what they made.
“Car scammers” are people who try to steal money or cars by tricking buyers or sellers. This segment frames them as a real problem in the car world, not just a general internet issue.
“Porsche scammers” means criminals who trick people into losing money when they’re trying to buy or sell a Porsche. The episode is about uncovering those scams and how they operate.
“Gearbox thieves” are people who steal the transmission from a car. It’s valuable, so criminals target it—especially on cars where replacement parts cost a lot.
“Investigation ones” means videos where they dig into a mystery or problem instead of just reviewing something. In this case, it’s about uncovering what’s really happening with car theft and scams.
The G-Class is a luxury SUV that’s built to handle rough roads. It’s known for its strong, boxy shape and its ability to go off-road. In the podcast, it sounds like specific G-Class vehicles were being discussed as part of a larger situation.
The speed limit is the maximum speed you’re allowed to drive on that road. They’re saying they didn’t need to go over it, which shows how serious the driving behavior became.
The hard shoulder is the emergency lane on the side of a highway. It’s meant for emergencies, not regular driving, so using it while things are out of control is especially risky.
Place
M11
The M11 is a major highway in the UK. They mention it right before talking about driving at about 120 miles per hour, so it signals how fast and dangerous things got.
The McLaren P1 is a very rare, high-performance supercar made by McLaren. It’s famous because it uses a hybrid setup and is considered a “top-tier” collectible car.
Brand
Harrod
Harrod is mentioned as the seller/dealer where the McLaren P1 was purchased. For rare cars, the dealer’s role can matter for the car’s history and paperwork.
Nick Mason is a well-known musician from the band Pink Floyd. In this story, he’s used as an example of someone who bought a classic car that became worth a lot more later.
When they say “the market,” they mean how car prices change over time for the specific models they like. They’re basically saying they follow prices so they can guess which cars will go up in value.
Car
2017 hurricane
They mean the Lamborghini Huracán. It’s a high-end supercar, and they’re using it to show that they can estimate what a specific year and mileage should cost.
The Bugatti Veyron is a famous, very high-performance supercar. It’s the kind of car people recognize instantly, and here it’s brought up because coworkers are curious about what’s happening with it.
“Donuts” are when a car spins around in a circle, usually by sliding the tires. People do it for fun or to show off, but it can be risky and may get you in trouble.
This part is about how kids get excited about making videos, especially the kind they see online. It’s showing how social media influences what they want to do and film.
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s electric pickup truck. It’s famous for its unusual, futuristic shape, and here it’s mentioned in the context of taking it out for real-world driving.
Most cars have a diagnostic plug (OBD) that mechanics use to read error codes. Some thieves can also use that same access to mess with the car’s systems, which is why it’s considered a weak point.
Peripheral vision is what you can see to the sides without turning your head. Better peripheral vision helps you spot hazards earlier while driving.
LIVE
Genuinely, I've got to put myself like I'm on the sofa with the family at home watching you guys
Do you guys feel safe fake Ken one was was horrible for me?
You know in the middle of the night. I had this female saying that he was gonna come and take us all out
Mark and Jane you are an amazing family your cars your passion your energy even
Uncovering the world's darkest criminals
What was like a defining moment that kind of changed the direction of content into these really big viral videos?
It was the Porsche one. Yeah, the GT3 RS. I saw how much they were for sale
So I thought I'll try and buy one new and then realize that that wasn't a thing people want to know
How's it changed Senna's life? Well, she started telling people she's a youtuber people message this time
Yeah, can you take me to my prom? I'm not gonna take your daughter to the prom when I don't see my own daughter enough
What has been a really scary moment in the last two years?
I heard the doorbell go just escalated so quickly from there
It came in and put me into caution straight away a serious road traffic accident said, you know
Were you here at that time of night? And then I was like, oh my god. I was before now. I really am in trouble
This episode is in partnership and sponsored by East Midlands water
Mark and Jane in the back of the road success van together and that is because we spoke before
Your audience the people listening to this podcast their families
You are an amazing family that's brought your life to YouTube your cars your passion your energy
Even uncovering the world's darkest criminals
But Mark and Jane and Mark if you answer first in your own words, who are you and what do you do?
I am a dad a husband and
We manufacture straps, but we also do YouTube videos
Which Jane you are now in quite a lot of so if I asked you if I was down Tesco's
I had no idea who you were and I'd just seen five people taking selfies with you and Senna as you walked out the shop
But I said well in your own words, who are you and what do you do? How would you answer?
I would answer it that I am my life. Yeah
Basically, yeah, no wonder the police come around so often
Very well answered they're very well answered. Yeah, I am I'm basically a
Girl Friday who says yes a lot of the time day night. Oh, yeah
Okay, we want to get into all that today because I'm sure the audience are going to be
Fascinated that when Mark rocks up to the gates
Do you know every single car that he's going to come home in also some things about your past?
I know you were into sailing and boats and all kinds of things that people might not necessarily know about
But I think everybody will be wanting the answer that first question now
So we'll start there when Mark rocks up to the gates
Do you always know if a new vehicle is there that he was coming home in a new vehicle? No
Right, that was the answer that I expected. I think the audience too
What has been your mixed reaction over the years to different ones?
I think the worst one was waking up on a Saturday morning to the
Gate going and there being a massive articulated lorry out the front that got a tank on the back
I thought you're gonna say the herce. Wow. The herce was a bad one
I had nobody left in it. I'll just like decide. It was empty
You're wrong. It wasn't empty. There was actually an urn
Now the urn was empty, but there was an urn. I can't remember the name on it, but it had been rolling around
Do you think that without YouTube would you still have the same quantity of cars the same eclectic mix and still be having
Tanks and herces arrive at the gates
It definitely makes a difference because there's times where it's not bought for content, but the there is a
Conversation whether it would make good content. So I'd say in honesty probably not as much. So it's always been
Silliness and weird things around but probably it's more extreme
You are desperate to go to Tesco's in a tank though. Aren't you in total rookie shop Eddie Hall do that?
Yeah, well, I've I've passed my tank test. There is a tank test
So I've got on the back your license is C C
I've got H so I to pass a tank test a track test
So I'm ready just never starts but as soon as it's what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna park it over there
And I'm gonna point it at the gate
So when it parked with the gun pointing at the gate see you too have piloted all kinds of different things
You're on about a tank test there
You've driven not only cars but rally cars on dirt you're more comfortable than you are on tarmac
But you started on water piloting fast things right so weren't you into sailing growing up?
Yeah, so we were a sailing family
And I ended up being the best sailor than my brother
So I was the one that got the boat built so I sailed on my own with a school friend and my brother and dad's out together
Which was hilarious because if ever there was anybody shouting on the lake it was them two at each other arguing. Yeah, love it
Yeah, yeah, and when I was doing my research for this episode it came up with something that wasn't quite expecting
Obviously know that you've driven buggies and the mean your WhatsApp photo is literally one upside down
But it said that you did it together. So do you want to explain how you were in buggy racing together?
Yeah, so it was they were very much a two-seater. So you'd have a
Sanding meeting. It's alright. You'd have a driver and a co-pilot
Well, it was called side-by-side racing. Yeah, and but then it changed in there
It did somebody then wisely had an idea or couldn't get a passenger one particular round went out and raced and
And absolutely left everybody stand without it without that way
So from then on in I was basically on a diet of dust
Every week to try and keep the weight down and in the end. I think I even ended up sitting on a go-kart chair
Didn't know we had to tell it go-kart seat
Hello
We have a special guest we do have a special guest center and Dottie
Oh
Have you always been comfortable being a passenger to mark because he's a fairly unorthodox driver in some of the things
He does have you never felt like oh, let me out of this thing get me out
Have you always been a comfortable passenger not once and I don't think I could say that about anybody else to be fair
And I'm not big up in you there where where's the biggest crash you've had
front no, yeah, France was good
France was good. I think the biggest we had was it em
Newied farm when we rolled down the hill. Oh, yeah, that was a good and I loved it. Did you I'm terrible
I used to love it when we rolled
Not like it when we broke down because nine times out of ten
We'd always do the breaking down when we traveled the furthest distance passport
Anything but any buggy with a passport. Yeah, the buggy saw a passport
We traveled a long way and it cost a lot of expense. We remember
Bastoing we did one lap in practice
Long trip back
Where do you think you get the bit of being comfortable with rolling over in a buggy and enjoying it from like where does that come from in you?
Because there'll be so many families listening to this and why isn't women like there would be like there's no way
I'd ever get in the car with my other half or do that
I think I'm either really thick or a little bit of an adrenaline junkie
Did you do anything prior to like the sailing like growing up as a kid that was that were you on BMX's?
Were you like out doing anything like that? No, and you never knew that that kind of side to just do wild stuff was in you
No, but it was just
Do you know what a reason that I partly wanted to do it with Mark as well is because
he
Used to come back. He had somebody else do it with him to start off with him
Richard was just too big and too old for it really wasn't it? I really apologies, Richard
So I went in it and I absolutely loved it and I think I loved it even more because I actually got to feel
What mark used to come in and tell me
Yeah, I experienced the race rather than just being told it because you'd have like a moment or an overtake or
Like jump over something like there'd be something really exceptional
Happened on the track with the same wheel and then you come back into
And then it would be so hard to sort of feel that emotion
Oh, yeah, but obviously then when you share that experience on the way back, but oh, what about that?
What about that? It's kind of like what's happened with your YouTube channel because at first
You just used to kind of appear in the background on the channel be asked a question
And now you are full main character part of the channel family
Do you always feel like the people around you?
You tend to kind of pull into the picture so that they can have these crazy experiences with you
I feel like with with what we've done
I like the fact that you know a car becomes a character and
We noticed with with Jane and saying that we'd have a lot of comments of people saying that
Like you know say we get a million views on a video we always thought that
It's definitely not a million views because with our sort of channel a lot of families watch
So there'd be the husband the wife the child and people to say to us it shows a wife or say
You're the only car channel we watch and they sit down as a family and watch it
So I think that us doing a part of that every single week is I think it's just better
It's just it feels more real and our life is like that
You know we before we had center we used to do some crazy things and now there's three of us instead instead of two of us
That's the only difference has it been hard for you to kind of get used to because there's so many people
We said there's like a bulking effect in a million views is probably
5000000 views if there's family sat down and watching it in terms of actual people and eyeballs that could bump into you and Tesco
Zorasta or no mark probably Audi
But
Do you find that you get like recognized just all the time going out now?
Yeah, and it's strange because nine times out of ten when we were out as a family
People will always say I spotted Jane before a spotted mark now
I've no idea why because I'm not exactly the tallest person and
You tend to stand out in a crowd more than I do, but it's right isn't it? Yeah, and he's getting it's really
You know you've seen it yourself. It's it's so it's a real sort of privilege and an honor and like when somebody says
Can I have a photo of you? It blows my mind either now and
It gets more and more doesn't it more my stop charging a pound though now
Contra fiver see I really noticed it
I think it was the last auto sport that a bump into you and it was just you just had a sea of people around you everywhere
That you walked wanting to take pictures and all the rest of it
But a show like that for you where you're into your kind of rallying built cars everything like that
You must have just gone to that as a punter for years
There and then notice this this crowd of people suddenly become an interested in what you do is that kind of like
Odd to think about or do you just notice is it a bit like a stopgap every year?
You think there's more people 100% like and that's when we go to the same event the next year
That's a massive great big sort of telltale to how far the channels go in because you know
To start with it be a hundred people the next year be 500 people and now
You know if you stop and one person ass and then another person and you get two and then there's three
Then there's four and all of a sudden there's a line which is still like
It's crazy. It is crazy. Yeah, it's happened
Between the two-year spot and now because the last time you sat in the van
You were less than 200,000 subscribers your normal video was jumping a hurricane strato over a dirt jump ball
Using one of your rally cars to go sideways on dirt or doing something along those lines
What was like a defining moment that kind of changed the direction of content into these really big viral videos like?
Porsche scammers and car scammers and the gatti gearbox thieves like where did that kind of side of the channel come from?
It was that it was the Porsche one. Yeah, the GT3 RS
You know I sort of I wanted a GT3 RS and I saw how much they were
For sale and I didn't know I wasn't massively into Porsches
And I thought I wonder how much they are retail and there was a difference of like
200,000 pound over as for a Porsche so I thought I'll try and buy one new and then
Realize that that wasn't a thing and then we went down this rabbit hole and all of a sudden with all our videos like this
You know we go into the sort of more investigation ones where we don't know the answers and when the audience learns
We do as well and it's just it's just amazing the the phone calls the emails
Yeah, but I also think as well from like past experience
Unfortunately, you know Mark's target being stolen off his parents driveway
the story behind it
People want to know
You know, we told a few people people wanted to know the
Hurricane that ended up over in Thailand, you know, it's the stuff that you read about in papers
But it's never associated with somebody that you know
And we're gonna go into that today because you said before to me that you feel like it's not just you guys in the house and center and
Reese and the team
It's like a million people that have hit the subscribe button that are kind of behind you as a force
Which is why you are confident enough to take on some of these kind of exposure videos to criminals and thieves and how cars are chopped up
We're gonna go into all of that today
But what has been a really scary moment in the last two years that sits at kind of top of the tree
Was it the moment the police come to knock on your door that night?
Wasn't the best night that really was it. No, that was yeah
It was because it was so late as well. There wasn't it. Yeah, it was like near enough midnight
So we were both asleep. Well, we're all asleep and I heard the doorbell go. So looked on my phone
Obviously started having a conversation and it just escalated so quickly from there
Like I'm upstairs the next thing I know they're in Mark's downstairs and I'll let you carry on tellin
Yes, they came in for the door when I open the door
I saw them with a torch on the front of a car and then they came in and put me into caution straight away
Straightaway just said like you had no idea for what not a clue and really then he said it's a serious road traffic accident
and I'm thinking my god like and I have that fear of taking out a cyclist or a
Pedestrian I thought did I look at my phone have I took somebody out and I honest like it wasn't like I've done a hit and run
I was thinking I have hit and obviously run, but I didn't know who so then then he sort of like went for this thing and said
You know, were you here at that time tonight? And then I was like, oh my god. I was and the foot now
I really I'm in trouble and
But we look back and it was about a half hour difference
We showed them the CCTV of us coming back before the actual time which I thought I was at the time
But yeah, somebody had been in a knocked off a Suron and was seriously ill and it was
The G-wagon G-wagon black G-wagon
But but there was five in red itch and they were going around to all five of them and trying to find out who would hit this
Guy on this bike and do the runner, but I thought I'm in trouble now
See the thing that maybe the wider audience don't necessarily know is kind of between your friends and the gang on YouTube
You are known as Mark McCann at 64 mile an hour because you drive everywhere
It's a 70 at 64 mile an hour
I have heard the boys question once or twice like should we just like get Mark to ship his car to the destination or
If you always been like fairly sensed but on the road because you take everything out kind of on the track
100% you know, that's the good thing about having sort of like a racing career that you do you'd be exceptionally
Crazy and silly on those weekends, but I never felt the need to do that
And also I always feel I do worry about other people and hurting also like I'm scared if I did lose my license
By a moment of stupidity
I've got no job no way of getting from A2B no YouTube channel. It's all gone and all these amazing cars
I'm lucky enough to have like I'd never be able to drive them. So I am conscious of
Of that, but can I also just say he is the world's worst passenger terrible really awful
awful, so one of the videos you did was with
Squeeze squeeze and he certainly did squeeze didn't he was that was that for you more frightening?
Then going in confronting a car thief at one o'clock in the morning
It was just different because it was such a shock like we'd we'd we do in this video
We'd always wanted to do like a car racing sort of video and as you know sometimes YouTube can suppress
Anything which is sort of dangerous and we did this video with him. So I said something to start
I don't want her to break the speed limit. I don't need to show me what we're doing
I've seen it on you know
We had the clips from him off his phone and his Instagram and his snapchat and then
Like all of a sudden we were going down the hard shoulder of the North Circular
Like no, so the M11 to start with it
120 miles an hour and I was like I want out
I want like you know us telling him I want out and then we got to the the island the police were waiting
But probably the thing which I realized is I wasn't worried about me
I was worried about us taking somebody else out and then also I knew if the police stopped us
They'd have you know would have been at gunpoint and it would have been face-to-floor because you know
They wouldn't have asked any questions because he was very much a wanted man
Like it even is his Instagram was 15 and oh so it was like 15 chases and no captures
So that day was 16 and oh so talk us through the say eight hour build up to that
Is that probably when you found out that this was happening on the day or do you find out prior to that?
I think in this particular occasion it was probably about three hours before oh even shorter
Yeah, we've been trying to get it sorted and it hadn't come off and then all of a sudden it come off in there
I knew it was in the pipeline
But kind of every time it was arranged something would happen and it you know
The arrangements would fall apart and then you've got the go on it and I was like, okay
Be careful
Is there ever been anything so dangerous you said no I
Would have said no to that if I'd known if you'd have seen the video
Just for future reference, maybe you need to say the opposite, you know
Like when we say to send a pedal and she doesn't yeah
so
It's just a casual gunshot in the back
Nothing to do with the channel
So what if somebody commented under your video, how would you answer the question of were you not expecting him to do that?
Are you really that complacent a lot of the time when we meet any of these people?
They literally, you know, they are fans the reason that they want to speak to us whether that's a car thief
You know squeezy just is swimming, you know, they know who we are and
So that makes makes it a lot a lot easier
I think that's also because you're not
You've never been a type of person to want to catch somebody out
The genius behind it is to educate
Like I'd never heard of swimming I thought swimming was something that you did in water not on motorway when you fall off a sailboat
Absolutely
Yeah, but yeah, because you know, even when we've done the Stalin stolen car ones, it's not it's not about the person
It's about the metal. We've always tried to get the car back. I don't care who stole it
You know, they can do their own thing. It's not ideal, but that's not my job. We're not the police
So, you know, we're going after the story
You know bigger picture
What, you know, we're saying that guy's done this the police aren't gonna do anything anyway as we know
So it's more just about educating people about the awareness
Is there one particular without naming them?
But is there a circumstance where you've come across somebody that's gone down the wrong path and
You like almost coming home as a father
Questioning whether you should try and help whether they've just gone down the wrong direction
Should you give them a job in the ratchet strap factory life of Laura? Do you struggle with that?
Do you kind of question?
Could I help here and have to kind of take a step back there was one exactly that wasn't there
Yeah, these these lads and we met them and
So hard to explain how look, but they were just normal people. They've done some real naughty things
Thieving and robbing from people
But by normal you mean that they know no difference human beings like human beings
But they're not I rang up Jane
Afterwards to say I was safe and it was a pretty dodgy meet that one was me and Reese
Like didn't really know a lot of the time
We know who we're meeting through a through a friend of friend. They're alright. You're fine
Yeah, you're gonna be alright. They want to meet you with these with these lads
We didn't know anything about them and it was all on our terms sort of, you know
there was no sort of introduction and
When I was with them
When I came out, I was really guilty for from a life and the happiness which I was coming home to and they
Haven't got that and although what they were doing was definitely not
Like it's definitely immoral and wrong and shouldn't be done
But I could also see why they were there the path they had taken they had no instruction
They had no guidance. sort of parents
You could just see the path they'd gone and why they'd got there and how
To be honest, I think they're stuck there for life. It's not like they could come out and
This is what I was going to ask you from what you've seen and what you've learned and from sort of getting to know these people
And if they're even listening now, you know, they you said they like your content
Do you believe there is a route out of that or is it as addictive as smoking or
Drugs or something like that. It's like so hard to break the cycle
I think, you know, when we've seen some of the guys like we saw this one guy he was
he was 14 and he had
like a
Canada goose
Jacket he had a relax. He had all all the kit and
Like it wasn't a turkey job like these were fully proper 2000 pound coat on his shoulders and
it was through stealing cars the profit of that and
Like, you know, when when they've seen that or they're gonna start on that whole, you know
And a lot of them and then got criminal records
How would you get from there to that life? They're living is so luxurious and you know
Free and easy
To go the hard route like we all have to do is probably even harder because you know, you can have to start at the bottom
You're gonna be earning probably a minimum wage
You're never gonna be able to save or have a car so you go steal somebody else's and you know, then you sell it
You get some of these people a 7000 pound a night
Are they really gonna even if they wanted to I'm not sure it's possible anyway because you know
We spoke to the one guy and he said that he's
Unemployable really because he has a criminal record as long as his arm, you know
If we are business owners, are you gonna choose employing somebody who with a criminal record over not somebody with a criminal record?
This difficult isn't it it's really difficult and when you have to kind of
Come home because even though you can put it through the lens
And you do such a good job of storytelling and putting it through a lens and what happens
You must find yourself because you said you kind of lived the story like everyone else
But you're the only one that's in your own head who's really seen them without the blurred faces looked into their eyes
All the rest of it that must be really difficult to come home and kind of process that yeah
It is it is but I mean those particular people that you're talking about you still don't know who they are now
No, when you saw them, they'd got balaclava as they've got hoods up. So you're literally looking most of time
I don't want to know like me and Reese say, you know, we don't know what their names are
We don't know want to know where they live. We don't the least we know the better
So if the police knock our door down, I don't know nothing. I literally don't yeah
But the interesting thing is a lot of occasions these people are quite happy to have voices that aren't distorted
Even show faces. Yeah, some of them, you know, which is just
We've been we've been a couple and I've said like, you know, right, we're gonna do this and they're like don't worry about it
I'm like, yeah, we do worry about it and they're like, no, just no need to blur me
Is that because they're so
Unfeering of like the authorities in the place is you guys like everybody probably watching the majority
Family people the police come knock on your door quite literally
It's just shit. Have you yeah that night to them. They are absolutely zero of that
Yeah, but I feel like you know when I was brought up. I was scared of a moment not well, you know
Yeah, fearful of my mom and dad. They're in charge. I was fearful of my teachers and I was fearful of the police
Authority was something to be respected. But I think a lot of the time now that that bit's missing people aren't scared of their teachers
They're not scared of the police, you know, I think that you know
There is a disconnection to what's right and what's wrong like some of the people we've met, you know, they they're breaking to somebody's house and
Stealing the cars one thing but one thing which really bothered me is they they were telling me that they eat the biscuits out of the jar
And I saw one guy took a dog for a lap for a walk in the middle of the night round that that was the one that got me
He was like it's that sort of and don't get me wrong when we spoke to them. It's not like they're going
That's bang out of order. I'm wrong
They don't see it as wrong, you know, they they don't feel particularly guilty because I think they're either that used to it
or that's their only way of
Dog eat dog paying the bills eating finding somewhere to sleep that they don't see it as wrong like we do
You know, we think it's disgusting. Don't we? You know, it's yeah, it's not acceptable to steal off somebody who's earned that
But I don't think that they're in the situation where they they just think you've got car insurance
It doesn't really matter. They don't see that the people they rob off then
Can't sleep the next night can't sleep for weeks makes himself ill
Can't go to work lose their job have to move house because they're so scared about getting target again
They don't see any of that. Do you think you will ever have an impact?
Or do you think the channel has the possibility of ever having an impact on the people you meet to think differently about that?
I mean, I think once you're in that world. Sometimes it's very difficult like I don't I don't think so
I think I think that the people we've met are on that journey and I'd say
99% of them don't want to get out of that rhythm
So before we get into because there's no much more to the channel
It's not just videos about crime and cars being stolen
You've literally rebuilding a you getty Veyron that was split into two which we'll get in how you found out about that
You bought a McLaren P1 from Harrod since the last time you're in the van
I don't even know how many do you even know how many cars are in the collection right now? Yeah, too many
So we're gonna get into all of that
But I genuinely have got to put myself like I'm on the sofa with the family at home watching you guys
And what would the family be saying to one another the family would be saying do you guys feel safe?
Yeah
I've got no reason to not feel safe
We're no different to anybody else out there like if somebody's gonna come and steal a car
They'll come and steal a car. Well, I feel well. I feel like we've got the people we've got around us. Hello
This is like a proper Mark McCann video. There's sorry everyone
and I
Feel like we have so many people message and when we've been in situations
Like the fake Ken one was was horrible for me, you know in the middle of night
I had this email saying that he was gonna come and take us all out and like
Ridiculous really and you know
but
We've got so many people behind our channel
but we had one recently and
This person would like it stole off us. It was
Yeah, it was a situation and this guy messaged me to say that he was
Diner cancer. He had
Gone through his chemo. He was now just it was just a waiting game and he messes me to say
It would be an honor
To go sort that person out as his last wish
And we've had a Navy SEAL one take somebody out
But you know, we have got this not army. That's not the right thing to say
But people have got our back. We've got a nice community
But that doesn't make us feel indispensable or untouchable
I was gonna say not because it could be very easy to maybe get complacent
If you buy a McLaren P1 from Harrods, do you ever look at it from the other mindset of
Yes, you're tracking the thieves down and going through the story of how they stole a car
But do you ever think they might want to steal one from you just for the challenge? I don't know. I don't know because
Well, you can never say never can you never say it's horrible to ask and I know I can see absolutely hate being asked
But this is the thing I have to do because I have to picture myself as the family on the sofa watching you
And I think the reason that you obviously have gone on this boom since the last time you were sat in the van
It's because you're willing to take these risks
You've always been a risk taker's where you're upside down in cars and sliding round fields and all the rest of it
As have you just been a risk taker your whole life with everything? Yeah, yeah, like you definitely one for
Risk and reward. Yeah, definitely sort of leave them in business. You know, we've you know
I've bought thousands of fidget spinners because they've been popular SD cards
But I've always found myself like if we've gotten out
I was like, you know say as a business if we've bought 10,000
I know that once we've sold 6,000 we've breaking even and that's the same with the cars
I look and think can we get out? Can we get out without losing money? Is that a safe option?
So I think that's like there is method to the man
There isn't a little bit a little bit. So it begs the question about
Mark and
tightness with money because I have a story about him with water when I was in Vegas
I actually ended up buying Mark his water. Okay
Because he is happy to buy a McLaren P1 for 2000000 quid
But he refused to pay $18 for two bottles of water and said that he would rather die
Than actually drink true for it. I know he's owed you some carpets for a while and he's rather tight about that too
So I've actually got you a gift today for these two things if I can lift it
This is a whole house water filter
And my friend Tom who was into his cars as well owns East Midlands water here and he's so passionate about water and wine
But water he has taught me so much about what actually goes on in our day-to-day lives that is impacting us horrendously
And even those bottles in Vegas the amount of microplastics that are in them
Unbelievable. I had no idea until I spoke to him how many microplastics are in water and that every year it gets worse and
At home so many people fit a water filter to their fridge or they put a water filter under their tap a smaller version of one of these
But obviously this is a whole house water filter because it makes sense that we'll shower and that water comes out the same place as
the water that we try to stop ourselves drinking with the filters we put in other places and
Usually we're showering in very contaminated water
If you actually did a little DNA lab test in your house of the stuff that kind of soaks into your body when you're having a shower
It is insane and many people that have installed these whole house water filters
Which it does what it says quite literally on the filter make sure that all the water in your house is completely filtered have reported the fact
Their hair's got softer
They feel their skin is ten times better and not only that their whole family is then benefiting from drinking
Perfectly clean water because we see all the problems going on with the rivers and things that are invested and I'm sure there's lots of complicated war
There's lots of complicated words that Tom would like me to say about his whole house water filter
But genuinely water is the thing that we will consume the most in our lives
And it doesn't all just come out the tap into our body
It comes into our body in so many different ways
But make sure just like you guys can now you get yourself a whole house water filter and use my discount code
Ben to make sure that you're a little bit safer at home too and just like Mark and Jane
You'll have the same water that runs through their hair. How great that
Having this place helped because I'm really fortunate that where I live we've got a little bit of space a little bit of land
Been able to build a holiday lodge which we rent out that mum manages over on the Fowler Fisheries stuff
And we're able to have a log cabin office in the garden. Everything's kind of so close to home
It makes life easy because didn't you for years I'm not sure if you still do I doubt it now with the channel
But you're constantly buying and selling stuff on eBay and yeah flipping stuff and you're into cheese at one point
We did all sorts of stuff, you know buying and selling stamps and
Catalog returns carboots sales with like a lot of hard
Graffton dirty work, but we have actually stopped a lot of that
We've still got a few businesses sort of like side hustles
But with the channel being so time-consuming and we always want to make the best video
So rather than sort of spending our time doing that
We have stepped back and that's why I stuck stuck back on the boogie racing
Now I do arrive and drive circuit racing
Jane sort of stepped down at one of the working at one of the companies as well
Yeah, so we've just got more time
Which is the thing that people probably sound the sofa think that you'd have less of because I think it's probably more
Widely known now how much goes into creating a piece of content or YouTube videos and people see these gigantic
Edits and then here and I think most people are up to speed on the fact that you've got
Simart now and that's been the business that's helped build your life in the cars over the years
But is there a point for you where this YouTube channel the videos and all the rest of it kind of overtakes
Your other business and life because it just becomes so big, you know, what does
10 million subscribers look like for you at 10 million views a video
Is that a question on whether you still do other things? I think I think you're
Always continue to do other things as in so much because that's the family business and obviously your dad's passed away
Yeah, you know, you know, it's like sort of like it's important to keep that going
Yeah, because it's worth more than money. Yeah, and it's being there for your brother and your family and all the rest of it
Yeah, and that's the human part of being a family man, isn't it? Yeah, definitely and
We've always said well, we're
Still enjoying it. Yeah, the whole YouTube thing why we're still enjoying it will carry on doing it
But the moment that anything becomes too
tedious monotonous
Then we'll just say thank you very much and it is difficult time is difficult, isn't it? Yeah
Time is our our sort of our weakness really. It's
It's just so hard, you know, I have people message
This time year. Can you take me to my prom?
I don't see my own daughter like I'm not gonna take your daughter to the prom when I don't see my own daughter enough
So like stuff like that. It is difficult, isn't it? But we yeah, we definitely try and
With the two, you know, we've got an amazing team here, you know, we've got Reese Ryan Matt
We've got like it this this this sort of like powerful
YouTube creation team and we understand a lot how it works and we go to the next level
To make these videos which take extra time like for it
For an example to show you the level that our guys will go to we we had at the start of a video recently
And it had to have a shot of the P1 and it was at my friend Olly's through the winter being stored there
So I was like, yeah, we'll just use a clip from another video and they were like no
We are gonna stand in front of that P1
So we had to drive from here go three hours down get the car out stand next to it for me to say a
Five second clip to put the car away and come back here to make the best video
Where did you meet Reese then?
But you've always had the confidence to say no, come on get in the car
Go we're going to get this clip because I need it or has that come over the years. Yeah
It's definitely growing over the years. He was as quiet as a mouse when he first started really wasn't he he's definitely grown into like this
like like
The difference now is he he's exceptional at his job and Ryan is like there's a different part of the video
Yeah, but Reese is exceptional to
You work well together you bounce off each other really, you know how your minds work
You're kind of on the same level, but he's really good where do you know sometimes probably when you film this think
Oh, we should have said that I wish I'd have done that or Reese is that like cuz he'll go really we could do with that bit
Or what about that we should have said about that and then he'll add those bits which you know with our videos
It's very easy to fill fulfill those with VO our voiceover is really good like that
But you know he'll sort of reference things from the past or so that the audience understands the story better
And he's very very like and that's just by learning by editing thinking I wish we had that I wish we had that
We're talking about a really technical side of YouTube
They're almost like a bit of VO there bit of this bit of that obviously a million subscribers in all these years
You've now got a great understanding of it and the team behind you to do it. Did you ever set out to achieve that?
Did you ever think I am I'm setting on this path to get a million subscribers and to make this a big part of my life
Was that the reason that you started YouTube? We wanted a plaque didn't we?
Wow, I can understand that not the gold on it's a 100000
Well, you wanted 10000 to start and then when that happened
We were like a 104 get a 100000 and then when we did and we got that plaque
It was just like it was like I did you've done but then you don't do you keep going and now a
Million just seems like ridiculous, but the answer to the question. No like it wasn't I
Don't I just never saw it come in. It's sort of almost happened by accident, doesn't it?
We've gone on this sort of like roller coaster of you know, we got invited to
Pride of Britain
No, we're on the red carpet in London, you know mark from redditch and Jane from redditch just sat there with just
Celebrity after celebrity surrounding us like everywhere. We looked it was a famous face
And you know some of those people knew who we were which which is mind blowing, you know, even like I have
World champions Formula One drivers people who say hello, you know racing car drivers are like, you know
Always looked up to and they know where we are and it's sort of that's a I think that's the powerful thing about YouTube is
You know, it's that freedom, isn't it? You can you can become this
like
TV person and people that recognize without having
Your dad or mom working there, you know, there's no there's no backdoor entrance into YouTube you work hard
You might have a bit of luck and something might bang and go off
But you know anybody can do it literally you don't need an expensive camera
You don't need you know even just a phone now. You don't even need a GoPro and that's for me
That's a powerful thing about YouTube
Do you still think that's the case because maybe it would have been the case more when you started or do you think it's
Getting to a point where people do need to kind of compete a little bit more on the higher end of production side of things
And do you ever notice other channels copying your style and trying to do it and does it annoy you?
I won't say it annoys. I think it's a compliment. I agree
I
No, I agree because even with business and when we've we've just done with throw, you know
People used to cut we were market leaders and then people would copy us
But they were always one step ahead because by the time they'd copied us
We'd gone on to the next thing and I think with YouTube as well
We all take inspiration from different channels and you know, but
When it's not nice because that's a wrong thing to say but when you see somebody
Blatantly copy what we do. So, you know, they've copied almost like the thumbnail the title or the
the story
But they haven't got what we've got the magic dust like it. It's
Alright, but it's not what we produce. So they think they can copy it
But I don't think they put the effort and research and know how and late nights like we do
So it's you know to get a million views on the video is
exceptionally difficult like that our latest video we've had a lot of people reach out and
Say that that's the best piece of content. They've ever seen on YouTube like the emotion
They felt like it was like almost like a film like a movie and that's the quality of YouTube. So
And also as well like what you said about
Like the camera the GoPro is it going? I think it might go more back towards that
You know more to hold in the camera more to vlog in, you know, I think stuff goes around in full circle
And I feel like maybe yes, it's got to TV now bigger than TV better than TV
But will it come back more?
I think the other thing as well with us is we've always said like as soon as the camera started coming into our home and to us
We are what you get. There isn't a YouTube mark and a daytime
home life mark
He literally is what you say on the camp
And you ever struggle being on the camera some suddenly being in the kitchen or being this that and the other
Is it taking a little while to adapt or is it just come totally naturally?
I wouldn't say that it's come totally naturally because as Mark would say
Like when he first started doing it the idea of walking around and having a camera and having to talk when there's other people looking at you
It was just the most awkward thing, but I think you get to a point
It's like riding a bike, isn't it? You get used to it
You who were you growing up then when you were learning to ride a bike?
Like were you just as confident just as outgoing just as jokie or were you like a bit quieter?
Like who was the Jane and the growing up? Yeah, no, I think I'm true to myself really and
I've always been confident. I wouldn't say overconfident
I know my limits. I definitely know my limits
But I like to think that I'm a true representation of how I am now as to how I was
Back when I was 14 which is in course
Wasn't that when you two met because weren't you like childhood sweethearts or something like that 14 15
She must have been quite similar personalities back then to have clicked. I don't know
We must have been. I can't remember last week. No, no, I can't remember yesterday
But walking into Harrods together as that couple that kind of met all the way back there
And then suddenly you're in Harrods buying a 2000000 pound McLaren P1
Like do you struggle to sometimes feel still like Mark and Jane from Redditch when you're in experiences like that?
I feel I feel like we're almost cheating the system sometimes aren't we that like
That definitely pinched me moments and I think we kind of have to have little conversations between ourselves just to like
Validate that it is real and it is
Just to validate to the audience
What I experienced just while I was switching the cameras on before we recorded today
I can Jane was stood there Reese was helping me because I've got my L'arthedie today
just just get all the cameras into the right focus and
Mark was having a deep in-depth conversation about the meal dearly chosen from Tesco's today
Something else over there completely out of the knowledge that I was here dropping into what was going on
But like that's kind of where I was getting at then like
This is it almost not imposter syndrome to buy a 2000000 pound car
But like is it ever hard to kind of still appreciate the small amounts of money?
No, definitely not. No, definitely not and that's I think that's that's where we're probably different. I love a bargain
I love a sale.
We love a harvester
We love a premiere in we're not into fine-dining or anything like that
You know chuck us in Nando's or Wagamama's or anything like that and that is to us to us posh posh is Miller and Carter
Yeah, Miller and Carter's a proper proper do know is that but yeah, I feel I feel like
People say to me sometimes. Oh, it's all right. You know, it's only this it's not only that is it 20 quids 20 quid and I'm
sort of
More than aware of how crap times are for many many people and yes
We can't solve everyone's issues
But I'm still respectful to know that we are super lucky a million pound is a ridiculous amount of money
But so is a tenner and so is like looking after those bits. I'm by no means wasteful
Am I I sort of so again? What actually is this now?
You're interested well this in this box is a water filter from East Midlands water and it is filtered and softened water for the
Whole house you would not believe in bottled water
Just how many microplastics are present we buy bottled water like those bottles in Vegas thinking that it's a safe option
But in reality it really isn't we see all over the country
Environmental problems relating to our waterways and rivers all the time and it's the same with what comes through our tap in our house
Now many people attach a water filter in their kitchen
Maybe you've got one behind your fridge
But the reality is you consume water when having a shower when brushing your teeth and so many other aspects of your life
All over the house the BT 65 three-year water filter from East Midlands water is designed to reduce contaminants including chlorine heavy metals
Pesticides herbicides and sediment not to mention many other impurities while providing totally filtered water throughout the home
It uses activated carbon media and sediment filtration and even works for three years before replacement
So that bottle of water you've got in the car right now that glass of water you take from the tap all of that water
You're consuming contains these contaminants microplastics
Nasty things that cause you harm over a long period of time
And that is why you need one of these whole house water filters to start making your life a lot safer and a lot healthier in a world
Where water problems around every single corner?
So if you like Mark and Jane want to get your hands on one of these boxes for your home and keep your whole family
Hydrated whilst having safe water use my code Ben to grab yourself a whole house water filter an amazing deal
so going back to the P1
Harrods because that was also quite a defining moment of the channel wasn't it?
I would you say that that was like the biggest car purchase on the channel you've done
It had a huge effect
Huge were you 50 50 about doing it whether it would have that level of effect or not?
And would you have still been buying that P1 if it wasn't for the content at that part?
That's one definitely
Was the youtube's fault?
I can blame it on youtube can I?
I think you can because Carl
Carl Hartley he was mentioning me saying that like you know, this is an opportunity
Like nobody's ever going to buy a car from Harrods. This is the only time this is ever going to happen
It was at the end of their bit of being in that in that building
um
And I was sort of like
The P1 was amazing
It was such a lot of money and I had to sell other other things as well to do it so
But that was definitely
More of a youtube purchase that one and I'm so glad it was but Carl is a car salesman
So this is like the complacency car coming in. Is there any part of you that was there?
Like he's just doing this to sell me this car. I know he's I love him some bits, but I know what he's like
Yeah, I think no
I think he could have sold that car. No problem. Couldn't he? Yeah, absolutely
And and there's been plenty of other times that you've said no to Carl. That's a proof
Yeah
Yeah, Carl's a hard man to deal with his is I'm sure you um, but yeah, I don't know it was
The hot just the experience was like I've never been in Harrods. I've never walked into Harrods. I've never never been inside Harrods
I had no idea
You know on the day when we went down that we were like looking at and which was that necklace and
Were you sweating that I was going to add up to Louis Vuitton again?
Yeah, I tried to do everything I can to sort of
Get back close better get banned from that place. But what do you remember was it?
Was it 300 grand for a necklace? It was so ridiculous. It was like mad mad money and it didn't even look nice
But it's it's funny. It may be so you sat here
Do you see that next it's through but you spent 2000000 pounds on a car. Like why is that?
Semi-sensible I feel like you've put that in the rational
Mindset zone where to many people watching that's as wild as that necklace
Well, we went some to eat olly treat his knee, but do you remember which at the time do you remember that?
What was that salad thing we had that it was on the
To be tabula tabula. So is this like salad that like they had a salad thing in in
Harrods, there was like a
An ET place. This is our educated markers on food. It was a really nice Lebanese restaurant inside Harrods
Exactly. I just said so I've got me tabula salad and it was a like
It was like the best salad you've ever eaten. It was 25 quid and I'm not I am not paying 25 quid for the salad
I don't care. It was 25 pounds worth of salad. It was unbelievable
But I wasn't spending another 25 pound. It was still because I just think do you know like I hate buying a watering?
Vegas. Yeah. Oh, yeah, Vegas or an airplane or anything like that. I just feel I don't like being ripped off
So it's yeah, although like you say we were there buying a this car, but still like
Wasn't really Harrods isn't really us is it? It was amazing and so respectfully
Grateful of being there, but we've not been back since have we?
That's why you see who made you that conscious of the value of a pound who taught you the value of a pound my dad
And obviously my mom as well, but my dad like he you know
Well our our age like our parents
Both had to go out to work
You know, we've we've not come from wealthy backgrounds or anything like that. We are proper working class families and I think
You had it instilled into you and I know I did me that like
To have nice things you have to go out and earn and you also have to look after things
Yeah, like nobody bought me my first car, you know
Do you remember what that's been through?
There's a there's an escort over there. There's flipping green, but I do not understand what you mean
He's looking after it. He's parked it under a tree
But my dad never let mom and dad
Never let me have anything without earning it. Yeah, I wasn't allowed to borrow money
You know, I had to you know
I had to work at the weekends I had to work in the evenings that was part and we've we've done exactly the same with center
I haven't went exactly the same. She doesn't get you know
She doesn't get stuff like her first car will be whatever she can afford and she'll have to earn it, you know
We went out recently didn't we she she wanted something else to eat, didn't she?
Yeah, we went to a place and she was adamant that she wanted something that one of our friends was eating
She'd already had her meal. She'd already had her not finished it. Yeah
But she decided that she wanted it and she kept on and so he said right, okay
You can have it, but if you don't eat it all then you're gonna have to pay for it
Guess what happened and it pained her having to give her 16 pounds out of 16 pound coins for it
Each one lesson learn
Are you still the same with not borrowing money and all those things because many successful business owners
Will sit on podcasts and preach to the world if you don't borrow go and take the risks and
Put your house up against borrowing this epic loan or this that and the other you're not going to get anywhere
What would you kind of say to that?
Yeah, I've never been I was always taught that I wasn't allowed to borrow money obviously
Mortgage is different, but you know, we didn't you know, I couldn't have something
on
You know the knock which my dad used to call it on the knock on the drip. Is that what it was?
Are you still the same with cars?
Yeah, unless
Unless there's a car which came up where
I've got to borrow the money
It's gonna cost me money, but I know that I'm gonna
It's an increasing value and make me money for that
Loan so but I'd never buy a car just because I liked it
If I couldn't afford it if it was a business opportunity
I'd go the full organ borrow the money but as for you know, there's
I can think of a hundred cars
I'd want now, but I'm not going to buy them because I haven't got the money to buy that
But if I you know, but yeah, I think it's got to be a business decision
To to borrow money now. We've got I don't want to be in that situation where
Ah
You know the stress of like so so many people are under where you know
Having to worry about where that next payment is going to be and yeah, I'm so lucky we could sell something
But yeah, I'm we're definitely one for saving and then buying
Which is why you've also invested in quite the car collection because as many people do across the uk
I visited some insane garage which is with some insane collections
I literally had a guy on last week that is coming
The episode after yours actually nick mason from pink floyd who spent like 37 000 on a 250 gto back in 1973
That would be like 200 grand in today's money and that car's now worth 70 million pounds. That was a good decision
Wow, it was a good decision
But like you've got some insane cars. You got ken blocks
Ratty car like for you. Is that the same kind of thing?
Do you take note of where that car is in value every year or are you?
Yeah, I am your pride and joy. No, I am a little bit like that
I do like to because I've had bad days as you know
That's really bad. That's some really bad days where sort of like you've bought a car and it's gone the opposite way
And it's hard, you know, like I've some really bad days
um, but then I do I do watch the market and I
Like if you said to me
There's a 2017 hurricane with 25 000 miles on I can tell you which that's worth
You know, because I do watch the market and I I know
The cars I'm interested. I know a lot about and I know what they're worth and for sure
Like there's a few cars recently where I've bought
Knowing they're gonna have gone up and they have and there's certain cars now
I definitely wouldn't buy because I know I'm gonna catch a cold
Like I'd love some really great new cars
But I'm not gonna do it because I know I'm gonna lose
30 000 pound in a year
Which I never ever gonna I used to be that stupid
But now I've sort of realized that I've tried to limit those ridiculous losses
Bit and then you went and bought a ktn
Yeah, do you think that car's gonna do well?
The problem is
It's epic
That's the thing and when I saw that car that was definitely one of those where
It wasn't about the money and there's not been many of those
No, but it was so special
And the whole team and the people and the the factory and the employees and the story
Not that it made it. It's irrelevant. It just took away a lot of that
sensibleness
Because it was and is
unbelievable that it's almost worth
The risk on that one in that video. I got the sense that you
pushed mark over the edge to get that car
Was that one of the first
Ones that it's kind of that way around. I think it's fair to say the audience probably think that a lot of the time
It's mark, and I'm going right. I've got a great idea. There is another one, but it's gonna be okay
Let's just again was this one that was actually the opposite way around a little bit
No, like I think sometimes it's just a bit of a reassurance thing, isn't it? Yeah
And in that case and in that instance kind of
As soon as we went over and I saw it. I loved it. So, you know, there was just
No reason to say no in my mind
Oh, yeah, because like in real life, whatever it looks like on the tv
In real life, it's next level. It's ridiculous. It's just an absolute piece of art
But it is what we asked for us a race car and my god is a race car 100%
Do you struggle when you walk into
The factory at work like if you go to work your mind probably in that work
But I imagine everybody watches the videos as well and comes up and it's like
So what do you think of a ktf? What do you think is this? Does your family also watch your content? Yeah, mom does doesn't yeah
I'm pretty sure everybody does but the lads at work, you know
We've got a great team of people at sign mark and they never like, you know, when they speak to me
They're like, oh, what's happening with the Veyron like it's never like
I'd never feel like it's
Disrespectful and jealousy. I feel like that, you know, they enjoy the story. They enjoy what we do. They appreciate what we do
You know the genuine interest. Yeah, they're great people and you know, they've got a good job where we are
And we you know, we look after people they've got a job for life
So I don't feel like that we're in a situation where we take the pee where they've got a reason not to
Tune in and enjoy our you know, they'll always but there's a video tonight
There's a video, you know, they're waiting for that next video, which is really nice
But also I think nine times out of ten your daily is more often than not the transit farm
Yeah, I'm not I'm not a snob when it comes to
like driving anything like the the x5's
Good one. Yeah, the only one that we have a bit of an issue over at the moment is
Is the Peugeot in so far as Mark does the school run when he's going to the office and Senna hates that car
She detests it. So she is a little diva and what she gets in now. I think it's because she feels
That there's impending death if we crash. I feel like she she realizes that it shakes, doesn't she?
I think she realizes that it's not the safest place to be
So I think that might be some some of it. But yeah, I don't like
The problem is we've got an amazing array of cars and they don't get used to that that that is an issue and it is
because of time because of work because of
ferry and stuff backwards and forwards like
You know, the big sprinter van is there because it gets used and it's
That's what I'll be going to work on Monday morning. So, you know, it is
You know, people don't believe me. I've got a nine to five
You know, but I have do you refer to it like that?
Are you dipping in and out of the office at different times or do you try and keep it nine to five?
No, we're definitely less there than ever
but but then we've we always wanted that anyway, didn't we my dad died and
You know, and my mom and my brother, we all recognized that he didn't get to enjoy his life
So we've always talked about doing less
But it's very easy not to do less and I'm doing less at work
But doing more can sometimes bring more enjoyment can't it because if you're doing what you love i.e. the channel
It brings that enjoyment. Obviously, I know for you as is for me
It's such a shame that our dads don't get to be able to watch
The content that we're doing now and so many people love
Matt's channel because he's doing it with his dad and like we both must watch that thing. I you know
Bastard like I wish I could do do it with my dad, but you've got Senna. You've got the boys
You've got everybody that's been part of your channel
But is there someone in your life in your families that necessarily hasn't been on the channel yet?
Are included or a character in your lives that you think could join the channel at some point and would be tv gold
um
No, I don't think so now. I think everyone who wants to be in in his area to be we don't
Say you can't come around because we're filming today like no, it's just how on like Chris's and Matt's
There's been people that have joined over the years like a minute and been kind of part of that
I suppose do you ever think at work like
God he'd be so good on camera like the way he is or
Like it's just
You've got your growth. You've got found your people and again
I think it boils back to the fact that we've always said that
You get what you say. We're no different on camera to how we are in the home. So there's no need to add anything or
Yeah, we've we haven't got celeb friends. Have we do I mean we've got I've got all my all my friends and my school friends
And my friends I've grown up with like, you know, I've met some amazing
and people who are you know, we know
People who are well known on the telly and stuff like that, but our friends are still always be our
Yeah, our friends are still our friends, you know, when we go out for
some to eat or we do something it's not with
Somebody you'd recognize off the television or somebody we rub shoulders with it's it's still
Our mates it is and and just going back to the point that obviously like your dad doesn't get to see
What you've achieved and and neither does marks. That's another reason really that I think why we wanted to do it
We're not going to be here for
ever
and you know senna's got a whole catalog
of
Vlogs
from like her being
age two on upwards
Which is there forever now
And even now, you know, she'll come into our bedroom sometimes in the morning and she'll be like mommy
Can we watch this one and she's giggling and she's laughing. I mean she loves looking at the one in the
SVJ where you're doing donuts with her in the back garden
Just because of like the expression on her face and the enjoyment and I think I think as well
She wants to like the whole youtube thing like
When I was at school everyone wanted to be a movie star of david beckham a footballer
That's what people wanted to be and now somebody want people want to be a crypto warrior or a or a youtuber and
senna like
She's funny like she's not forcing to do anything like if she wants to be in a video she'll be in it if she doesn't
No problem. How has it changed senna's life at school?
Especially if she's getting older in terms of like other kids watching her on youtube
Yeah, they do like, you know, especially some of the boys and a lot of the the dads
Well, she started telling people she's a youtuber. She literally says
She's desperate for an instagram at the minute, isn't she? Yeah, like she wants her own youtube channel like
Any opportunity she's got she's got a phone and she went out. I've been growing some cucumbers
She films like this as well. Yeah, she films like this
She's like so she went out and did a vlog of like how the cucumbers have grown the other morning. She's like, hi guys
But then we're new it's the cybertrucks. Yours is like can we
We can do that daddy. We you
But you can't take it on the road, but yes, you can daddy because you're a youtuber. You gotta stop by the police
Yes, they didn't know. Yeah, gotta stop by the police svj's finally come back out
Yeah
I got it insured
police
Came up on their aim PR is not insured pull us over and they're like the two lads knew
Knew me and so they're like, so sorry mark, but it's like coming up as it's not insured
and i'm sure it is like this and senna was like
Um, it's okay. Daddy. We're a youtube
When when the police are behind us then the police comes to window
She's absolutely hysterical crying because she thinks daddy's now going to prison for no insurance
and then like but yeah, she's
She I don't know. She loves it like we're if somebody asks for a photo
At a show he's in there. She's in there
You're not allowed to do an autograph without signatures or a lair is on there. Yeah, so somebody say I've bought this
Somebody's saved up for this what you know, whether it's a cap a t-shirt a model car and they've brought it in a bag
Like it's the most tried possession for me to come and sign they brought the pen because they want exactly
And they know where i'm going to sign it say can you can you sign that just there?
Like it's obviously been prepared for that moment
And then she's like I want to sign it
And you can see the lab go
Oh, no
And I was like and and say can I sign it and they're like yep
And then senna's done like
a
No, no across like
Like across my signature anything you can see that she what she really wants to be a part of it
Which is really good like jane said she's never going to get forced into anything whatsoever
She can be who she wants to watch be but yeah, she um
Did you take an interest in the car some like a really young age was she like
You having to watch that she's not just stood in the field when you're kind of driving around in the minis or like
She's into bikes, isn't she she is into bikes but
That's what I was expecting. Yeah, that's what I that's where mine comes from
But yeah, she did you know, she's not massively into it because she doesn't know
What the car she knows that like the white one's a lamborghini, but if I said to her what's the red one
Like she wouldn't know it's she would know it's a Ferrari, but she she wouldn't be able to go that's a variety of 90 2023
Like she she she's not
That massively into it. Have you been
Surprised how positive it has been bringing center into the channel for her
And were you ever worried about doing that before you actually did it?
I think that's a tricky one because
I know what's coming so many people have their own opinions on it. Don't they and and we don't really read comments as such
but
but
I had somebody comment me
basically telling me how bad a mother I am
And that I'm putting center all over social media and
But like you think you look at any boot of an instagram account
I'd say 90 percent of the 95 percent those people
Are proud of their children, you know their children in their photos their upside down on the swing
It's a day out at the zoo
But those kids it's not the whole life
And I think the thing that some people are really short-sighted in as well is the fact that you know
We've got friends that don't just live within this area
We've got friends that live the other side of the world
And it's lovely for them to be able to have updates and see pictures. So why not share it on instagram
So even with how tough and strong willed and level-headed you are
Comments like that will they ruin your evening?
and
It won't ruin my evening, but I just don't understand the mentality of people
That find it
acceptable to
be a so-called keyboard warrior
and
If I'm going to say something I'll say it to your face
If I can't say it to your face, then I'm definitely not going to type it and send it in a message to you
So why do people do it? I just I really don't one thing on social media that genuinely does baffle me is we need a license to drive
A car on the road or a tank or whatever it is that you choose to pilot
Yeah, that hasn't come in yet for things like a youtube account
Like to actually have an account to be able to watch
I feel like it kind of should be linked to you in some way shape or form and it would probably cut this problem down by
50% I doubt you've ever had the full
You know blue tick or verified youtube comment saying you're this you're that on your account
It's always from someone
Uses 76321 exactly
But the the thing is they're flipping brave doing it on your account because you'll actually track them down
It's the problem and you're fine keyboard ken, but how do you then?
How do you plan videos like that? Does the embryo usually come from something on the channel or ideas?
Do you have a list like this long of different concepts like tracking down the person that commented that to jane?
Yeah, no, it's like a lot of them are come
accidentally but
One of the best the best videos I think we ever do is we do a video
And then it's never going to be a part two like that video is about a subject
That's it done and then the video goes out and then the next day you'll have a
An instagram message or an email and you're like oh god
and then it will be
somebody kind of worms doesn't it somebody who's like
been in a situation who's been had over
By the subject which is way bigger than the story we've just told
And then something else up and then all of a sudden you this this picture and this video
builds and there'd be a whistleblower
And somebody has been had over and then all of a sudden you've got a part two and a part three
And it blows some of the stuff which we could never put on the video
You know people have been really really naughty big big companies
And some of the people inside those companies have said this they've done you couldn't possibly put it
In a video because you'd they'd spend every penny they've got
Shutting you down
But are you the judge of that or is it as Reese like a bit of a safety net?
I feel no Reese is definitely not a safety net Reese is a complete opposite to a safe Reese is 21 years old
So Reese is fine to life
But I do have to say to Reese and Ryan like Ryan's 18 Reese is 21 there
You know I have a lot younger than me and a lot cleverer in their own way
But then they miss some of the stuff which I can sit back and say right. Yes. We can do that
I don't see the bigger picture do that
But when that's our last ever video because we've said that I've done that or whatever you're going to be out of a job
Luckily, I'm going to be all right tomorrow, but you'll have
No job because we're you wanting and then they go. Oh, yes. What do you mean?
So yeah, it's definitely that's definitely not Reese's sort of life
He's risk it for a biscuit if you're enjoying this podcast, then please subscribe to road to success
Yeah, please subscribe to road to success Ben's channel if you're enjoying this podcast
Everyone with a driver's license right now will know exactly what I'm about to say which is that feeling
Not for you actually because you drive everywhere at 64 mile an hour
Maybe in an average 50
But when you go past the camera and you think
Shit up in court. It's done me and there's that kind of like wait that's seven to 14 days
If it's something gonna come in the post
Do you feel the same way when you post a really controversial youtube video massively?
Massively. Yeah
Let's give me goosebumps now
Yeah, like when we do some things it's like
You question yourself a lot as to whether you've done the right thing or not
but
Because of how we are with each other it is discussed beforehand very much and
Stuff taken out stuff taken out changed stuff put in stuff taken out again
We've got like a vimeo account where people, you know our team will
We'll put a video up our first draft and everyone or you can put notes on there
And we can sort of say what we want changing
But there's videos which go out like when we do a Bugatti video and we do the next Bugatti video
I'm like, yes, it's just a video. It's going to do a one out 10 two out 10 five out 10 10 out 10
There is no risk
But then some of the ones we do which are a bit risk-a
You're thinking oh god. Well, there's videos that we've done that are brilliant
But they're not out there
And they're not out there for different reasons. How many?
Probably three I'd say that's an expensive members only membership
We have to that and that there'll be one day that it will be
The right time to do it, but it's not at the moment
There was one which didn't go out which Reese and Ryan and Matt they were all over it weren't they all over it and I was like
No, no, and it would have been it was one of those videos where we'd have got
Our channel would be bigger now
If we'd have done it
But the trouble is it would have been also a different audience. I think the people who
Follow us from the start wouldn't have liked that video. So I think we'd have
Gained more new followers, but I think it would have damaged our core audience the people we care about
So it was one of those decisions. I've said now. Okay. Yeah, one of those decisions where that's fair. Yeah
Yeah, it was um, it was the right thing to do
But yeah, there's definitely ones out there and as for the the question is yeah, it is stressful
sometimes you you read those first few comments and
even just
Reese I'll ring Reese and go
We need to change that now. We need to get rid of that bit like, you know, somebody will say oh well, that's
That's that because of that and I'm like, oh god, and then we're straight in their youtube studio blur a section
or
You know something will happen afterwards. Well, I can't be bothered with this asshole
I know you said that a lot of the the thieves are almost more of course they are but they're almost more brazen than you'd expect them to be
The audience thinks that you're blurring faces and masking voices because they don't want to be identified when in reality
It's because you don't want identified is a lot of the time the kind of
Well, and we don't want any come back on ourselves
Do you ever get them to sign off videos?
Will you send the video to the group that you know that to be like are you okay with everything in this?
We're all good. No, and I think that's that's why it's such a good thing. I think
There is that element of trust in them back to mark
like obviously
They're aware of what he does
they contact him in the first instance obviously because they've got a story to tell and
Based on our previous vlogs and mark style of doing things and then conversations that will happen
They have a trust in mark that it will be
Portrayed in the right ways that the right way for that. I agree because we're not disrespectful to the people
You know, I don't agree with a lot of the things they do, but I don't
Call them an arsehole or anything like that, you know, they we we tell a fair story and we let the audience decide if they are
They think they're an arsehole or they think that you know
We're tell both sides of the story and the reasons why we think that they're in that situation and why they're stealing cars
And why they shouldn't be stealing cars, but I think we're we're on the fence where you know, we can we can give a fair argument
um, well, yeah, because the fair argument also is not why they're doing it it's kind of
to enlighten how they're doing it and get that out to people
you know the whole
My lads say the whole jlr thing
Yeah, that was yeah, this could say we're like naughty on stuff and like there's there's
You know, these guys they've got their own snapchat again. So we've got their faces
I've seen the one with the pistas like in london
Like there's the few clips of them like driving the cars around with the machine of just used to flip in steel
And it's just so
Brazen and it brings the question to me as you mentioned earlier
You go meet these lads and one of the reasons that it's really hard to turn their life around is because it's so easy for them to
Earn a couple of grand
They're in the mindset where like a couple of grand's like 20 quid to most people
I it's just so everything's couple of grand or 20 grand or 30 grand
And it's so hard to get out of kind of being able to
Grab that kind of money quickly
So the argument would be is I know that a lot of the time if you have paid them
You even disclosed some of the fees before on the channel, haven't you you've had to pay a couple of grand for something
But is it worth it to them for you to expose how something's done because they can make that kind of money anyway like
Do you think it's like the snapchat thing? They almost want to be filmed and shown 100%
You know, you could look at some people and go
Why would they do that? Why would they but you know
some of them literally
You know when we speak to them they want to do their own merch, you know, they want a bigger
They want a bigger they're hoping to their Instagram to
Boom, you know, that's that that is they're waiting for the blow on them. Yeah, that's that's what they you know, that's
You know, and it's great for us
That you know people
Love our channel and what we do that they want to share those experiences which helps everyone
You know, we have so many messages of people say that
My car would a bit my car was stolen
But now I know about a cool enough period. I've driven around the local estate. I've got my car back or they've done something
They found like, you know
A key safe and they've done this or they've like, you know use this precaution and they've you know
So we've definitely aided and without a doubt
We've probably peed some of the big people off at the top because some of the secrets they
have
Now been
Shared they have but then saying that you know, were they not two steps ahead anyway technology just moves so fast
Nowadays doesn't it and like let's face it if we've stopped
50 cars been stolen. There's still another
50,000 which
Like it's such a massive problem that us Santanis a few stories is not going to break their empire
You don't think it's ever going to be stopped. No
No, not a chance. It'll just evolve in different ways. Yeah, a hundred percent. You know, it's like those OBD ports which are the weakness to
You know the whole system
Every single car from I don't know
25 years. I don't know what it is, but it's like that
Problems here and it's here forever. You know, it's like it's not like you can stop it
And it is a worry because I don't know. I don't know how anybody's going to stop it. But yeah, I
Were definitely not caught in their blood flow. That's for certain
is mark
Just as crazy when it comes to driving and incidents and accidents and
breakages as he was 10 years ago
I have never met anybody that's got such a good
Peripheral vision. Yeah
Like put him behind a wheel and he sees everything like 10 miles up the road
Put him in the kitchen and put a can of coke or something like that and it's just chaos
Not allowed a knife. It's not allowed a pair of scissors or a knife. I'm terrible. So what's the worst injuries come home with?
Because you've done your back. He said you've got one leg shorter than the other you snap beam as you've done all sorts
Neck
The most recent one was being lazy. I think and not walking up to the top warehouse
So it got a scooter Reese's on the back
Front wheels hit a stone
They've gone over the handle by a grease has landed on him and you've never seen anything like the state of his face
Reese's obviously been like the young
additional child to our family that
Is that how you view him or do you view him as a best mate?
He's like one of our kids
innocent
Yeah, but I don't like it people say to me sometimes like is that your son and I'm like
I joke with him and I say like the pin any offspring of mine is going to be a lot better looking
I do joke with him, but he's brilliant. They like it is
you know, he do you know like when you meet people and
You can just tell a good person
And you haven't got to worry about
Something going missing or somebody taking advantage or anything like that
I think he definitely looks up to you and I think we've you know, he's grown as a person
He's grown our channel
like
Without doubt we have our days
because sometimes we're tired
And sometimes others pockets. Yeah, and sometimes we're tired and but we both know it and there's a little bit of a dig and
Then like, you know, but that's that's the same as working with everybody and the good thing about what we do is
my
Like filming role is quite a small process because the the editing and the
The monster recreate is so time consuming that the filming part is the easy bit
You know that the research is me
There's sort of like finding all the different stuff out is me
Then we film it and then those guys have to do their magic and then we all come together and add to that magic
but we're not in we don't spend
Many hours of the week together
because
Like I say the the the bit they do is so massive
Who makes obviously you you said before that you've said to the boys now we're not uploading that particular video
But like your audience you said have screamed that they want videos every Tuesday night for argument's sake
Do you are you that kind of vision that looks at it and goes just isn't there?
Yeah, it's not got the magic like who's your kind of consolidator is that Reese that makes that call
You've always said it's quality over quantity anyway. Yeah, and also as well without a doubt they
We've got to stage now where nothing goes out and like it's hard when we get to a second Tuesday
But people always say I want to why haven't you put a video out and people do get quite upset because I suppose
They're so looking forward to it
But you know the veyron they're like and matt has the same problem. You know, where's the sharon video?
Where's that? Well, what do you want me to do film it in exactly the same state?
It was last week
Like where's the veyron video I'll take a video of exactly as it was last time because we're waiting for parts
Which is really frustrating, but yeah
We are a team where
It's never a video every week because we can't make it good enough like now we are
We want a video which is wide audience
We want a video which is a 5000000 views and yes
We could do a video every week. No problem
And it'd be all right and it would be but I feel like it'd be the same as most people's but I don't want to be like
We all want to be
The best at what we do and I think there's a few really good automotive
creators out of the UK
Really really good strong
And we're right up there, you know
And I look at what I say to you some of the times views like I'm a massive fan of Danny Duncan
I don't know if you've ever watched Danny. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's if Anna Danny don't a mash tag, bro
Do a mash a little mash tag and you know all these people but like we're getting more views and
Those people which I used to dream of
being like
And we're getting more views than them now is does that then set the mr. Beast mind set because obviously the
Target at first was just to get you know, 100k plat. Let's get it on the wall. We've done it. Then you get a million
subscriber plat
Do you then when you are beating the views of those guys
almost like have a
Change of like a lock-in mindset of like, okay. Well, if we've done that and we can do that
x y
Or are you just rolling with it? We're just in my mind. We're rolling with it. I don't know whether you feel different
No, I agree and I think the good thing about the guys here, which I think is really important
Do you know a lot of people get to a mill subs?
And then they take that foot off the brake and so to take that foot off the gas and you see say your foot doesn't see
a lot
You see like the
The sort of like the content go a bit slower because they've gone to that
Hero moment and it's been and gone
But the good thing about these guys is if it was up to me and it was me and Jane making videos
The quantity would be less and
The team we've got
are so adamant and excited about making good better constant videos that they are
We're here to stay because they're
What's the right word there and well they're like a donkey chasing a carrot. Yeah, they're infusiasm
They are their enthusiasm is not, you know, it's so huge and they but I think that's
the
mentality of like a younger
Mindset as well. The we've had a conversation the last few days. The only downside with them is like it's
They're quite happy to stop up all night with
Five monsters bizarre
It's very hard to find people like that. Yeah 100% 100% but like
Me and Matt are having this conversation as well is yes
They've got we've got some great people, but they've also got a great job
So we fit together nicely. They do amazing things. We go to amazing places
We have amazing experiences and we've got a fantastic team
So like it's not like it's definitely not a one-sided thing. Is it no?
I just can't think of anything worse than finishing work at like 234 o'clock in the morning
Like look at Reese's car, you know, he's doing it like he's doing really well
And Ryan as well, you know, they've got nice things and they deserve it because they are working
So so so hard
um
But yeah, like the good thing is they are
As keen as me
Because you drove I've only just remembered didn't you drive to Iran or you drove to Pakistan?
We drove to
That was abad abbey. We maybe wouldn't have done that a few weeks ago. It was recording the podcast now
But like that's another one which is like, okay, you're really going to do this. This is going to be okay
See, I didn't put much thought into that
And it was only when mark came back and started telling me like some of the experiences and some of the stories that I was like, whoa
But that begs the question
What's a moment for someone maybe thinking about because they've been inspired by you starting a channel
Putting a camera up with the family doing something. What's the moment that you might have been stood there and without
YouTube without putting yourself on camera without creating content as a car enthusiast and automotive lover of everything
That just would not have been possible without having a youtube channel that's enriched your love of all things automotive
I think that abad abbey trip was a big one like that
Because although I was away from my family for too long and it for the amount of views it got and for as a commercial decision
It was a very bad one
But my friend bagsy and monster they wanted to do this video and they pushed us to do this video
Which was which I'm so grateful they did because like
If you imagine we started off in the uk and petrol was two pound a liter and then as we got across europe
It got cheaper. I was right. She didn't just keep going. That's what happened
And we were every every every country every day the fuel got cheaper
The stakes got higher and I remember we stopped in turkey turkey is massive. I had no idea a big type tick was
I didn't have a proper coat. I didn't oh it's freezing. I
I took like mark turkey marks mind is like warm holiday scenario. So he packed like shorts t-shirts
Oh
Little did he know he was going to be driving through mountains with snow and I've never been so cold
I had like every item of clever and I had I had it on every day. I was fully layered up
But we went to we were in turkey and bagsy was really worried about iraq
Reese
Not a place like he's quiet like he doesn't think like he just had no thought about the safety and we had
various things
In our arsenal to to make sure if we did get kidnapped or whatever
There was a chance to get us back and we thought he was going to say a chance to get a video out of it
And then we got we went the the iraq thing was obviously a big thing and we got to Kurdistan
And it was magical the people were just amazing like lovely lovely people and you know
Don't believe everything you see on the news was definitely one of those but we got to the first proper army checkpoint
in iraq
And they were fully tank. Obviously americans have gone now. So they add, you know
All of the tanks and the armored stuff from left from the americans. They've got the humvees
They've got like, you know, they're fully the new guy out and said, oh, I got one of those
I got the full kit and they were like
Like literally gunpoint out and we're like, oh god
So we've got got out this london black taxi
So we've got out this taxi and then they've taken us into this room passport
Well, that's the last time we're going to see them
I thought like we're going to be here forever now and you don't know what you don't
Nobody's been in that situation. There was nobody to ask
We were the only people who have done that. So especially in the black cab and then this
This sergeant major came came out and he was like, you know, one of them like is just like fully how you'd think
He should look and he was fully like all his medals are like loads and loads and he come
So he's like started asking us loads of like but very aggressive
Like what are you doing here? Like like he was going on like this
So I've I've ripped out that I love iraq t-shirt which I had I heart iraq
So I thought now is probably a good time to sort of like break the ice
So I've gone like that bagsy and reese like no
No, don't don't so I've gone the flipping like that and he's gone
Yeah
So he's like that and then like he he would they were just amazing like 10 minutes later
after literally being at gunpoint then we're then
like selfies sat in his bedroom with like this fish being cooked
He's come like it was just magical and it's like yes, it was horrible being away from these two
but some of those experiences I would take to my grave and
It's being 11 days in the taxi with bagsy and reese
They'll admit I was just as bad. It was tough. You know, we were it was it was a tough situation, but
Memories like that because of youtube
Just was amazing
It's a good question this
Because you said that didn't do great in terms of use yet as one of your
Most favorite videos you ever filmed made
I know the kind of stuff you like and and what you're into in terms of automotive with your rallying with
GT cars and we've said before some of that stuff just for some reason doesn't get views on youtube
Still though the content you make now is that the exact content?
You wish to be making or is there stuff that you wish you could do that just you don't doesn't do the views
Yeah, I'd love to
when we go out
film stuff and
I remember watching Jay swing there when he he had that he went in that pickup truck across europe
With his with his mountain bike on the back and then I was going to do a similar thing with senator and the serato and a rooftop
Yeah
like
I just have to be careful with you and your creativity sometimes because again just reflecting back on the iraq trip
What made marks?
Journey hard getting through country to country and border to border was made
10 times worse from the fact that from the beginning of the project mark was determined for the taxi to look cool
So that meant putting a roof rack on it and fuel cans on the top of it fuel cans weren't a good idea fuel cans what?
like
Looking like a bomb. Yeah, and it could have been exactly and that was but yeah, no there's definitely
Like my race and I really enjoy my race and love to do videos on that
but
There's so many things which we'd like I have some
Amazing ideas for videos and I like put it in the group chat and everyone's like sometimes I don't even bother answering
They're like amazing ideas in your head. Yeah, and they're like that won't work
So who do you mention a few names there you sit down?
You don't fancy like cooking dinner. So you've got two meal deals
And you're in front of the telly. Who are the channels that you guys watch?
Who are the youtubers that you watch and do you actually get time to watch?
We don't watch normal telly anymore
Not that we have a lot of time to watch telly anyway, but it's
It's bizarre how times have changed because
We're from the era that we only used to use youtube if we needed to find instructions on how to use something
Yeah, rather than actually following anybody
But we love to watch we watch Matt
We watch Danny Duncan. You like Danny Mulhern
Um
Billy bowl. Yeah, mash tag
Yeah, mash tags a good one. I think Senna enjoys it as well. And like big fan of J Swingler
Mr. Beast, obviously
I've never been into Mr. Beast, but Senna's massively into Mr. Beast. You're the kind of guy I could
envision doing a cheese roll in Gloucester like running down the hill and doing that
I'd love to but that's definitely not something like it. Like look love Zach Olsop's videos
Well, somebody makes fosh, you know all those I think there's some really really
really great creators
Um, and obviously, you know Matt, you know without a doubt it's hard to mention youtube and our space
Without mentioning what he does
um
But I like we like light hearted stuff that way
I like loaf you're not into loaf are you?
No, but don't is there any you you mentioned you'd no test
So you clearly look and take note the fact that you do more views than some of the guys that you absolutely love watching their content
It's more of a like, whoa, that's insane
But come on you are like one of the most competitive people out there in terms of like your racing and all the rest of it
Is there a desire to think I can get ahead of someone like Matt?
No, I think it's still a case of disbelief more than anything in the fact that people are actually interested
in watching us
Yeah, and I think with what he does
The reason he gets some issues because he's brilliant, you know, like I have no interest
Look this how I explain with what he does
I have no interest in building a car. I never had any interest. I don't care like it's just not my thing
but
I'm captivated by that the same as
I watch the man with the streamer doing somebody's garden
and I do
Have you seen him?
No. Oh, I know you're on about he's amazing
So he knocks on somebody's door somebody's got an overgrown garden. He does it up for them
But within a two-minute instagram reel, it's amazing. Oh, this is serious not in you ender. No
You would do all the hand actions and everything then and what's streamer in your house?
Something that Mark's not allowed to touch because he knocks all the electrics out when he does
I do ruin stuff for streamer and then the guy who sprays the walls, you know
They paint the walls and then the guy who cuts the tiles around the corner
All that sort of stuff is for some reason
In my head is very very watchable and that's you know, and I think Matt's in in that space and
I'm definitely not jealous of anything he does and I
Really inspired inspired by what what they do as a team and I feel like but we've got
A great team and we have the potential to be
Really strong as strong as what he's done and you know, he's opened the door for a lot of us guys to
It's it's funny. I was always amazed at the answer someone very well known in automotive gave to me once and asked him a question
Before I'd even started road to success
And it was christian von kohnenzeg a man. I'd love to get in the back of the van
I was fortunate enough to visit the factory. I'm so wrong and I know I asked him
I asked him because I thought it. Hey, you're both in it
Or I asked what goes wrong in that sprint
But he I asked him
About did he feel any competitiveness with Horatio Pagani?
And he just went no our customers by both
That's straight off the tap. Is that no our guys by both
And that that's definitely a thing with youtube
Our audience watches both
I I totally agree and it's definitely with youtube because there isn't you know, you know as well as I do
When you're trying to find something which is fantastic viewing even though there's all that choice
This you still will go. I wish I could find something good
So I don't think that we're in a we're saturated by the choices we've got but I don't think we're saturated with quality
So I think there's definitely room for anybody
To make good videos and there's definitely more hours for people to watch than the good content out there
I I personally think that
And we struggle don't we to watch stuff at night time that you know
Like we're waiting for Billy to put another video and we'll wait for Matt to put another and Danny Duncan
You know you wait for the
If there was a video of yours dropping every day
Probably still would do a million views a video that is that is the reality if it was at the same quality the same level
But it went out every day at 6 p.m. I know that's impossible, but it probably would
Yeah, because because mash tag like he's starting to do those days. Did you ever watch brady?
Yeah, I've seen I've seen his stuff, but I can't watch it every day because I feel drunk myself
But he's done a second channel video now where it's like pretty much daily vlogs and he has shown
He's definitely rewriting the book said that
a man with a camera
and doing nothing
Works works because it's entertaining. He didn't do anything like he'll spend the day
Really does but he's just
Normalizing daily tasks and
But it's very viewable very viewable. It's almost like a modern version of Dave
No, the channel like that Dave was just like pure. Don't you worry?
Well, don't worry. We've said half an hour enough times now
And it really is probably the end of the video mash tag might have uploaded too
So I want to thank you so much both you for coming on because we said the idea for doing this podcast was the fact that
We pictured your audience think we know clearly who your audience are
So coming on just one rather than the other you had to be both of you
Um, and it was really interesting to learn about your journey too with everything that's gone on with the channel
So I appreciate that for Jane to have a an input of this as well because obviously she's such a
A massive part of our channel and the backbone to our family and what we have the ability to do
So it's would you get a bit of um
Gratitude recent Ryan next
Yeah, that's our videos first. Yeah. They're way too busy. Thank you both of you. Thank you
Thank you
About this episode
Mark and Jane McCann open up about living with threats and the reality of car theft, including a late-night police scare and a high-speed confrontation that escalated fast. Their channel’s focus shifted after they wanted a Porsche GT3 RS and “went down this rabbit hole” into scams, thieves, and how cars get chopped up. They explain why they prioritize recovering the metal, educate for awareness, and blur identities—while also balancing family life and filming logistics.
Mark & Jane McCann sit down in the Road To Success van to open up about the real life behind the YouTube channel, from wild car purchases and family life to the darker side of exposing car thieves, scammers and criminals.
In this episode, Mark and Jane talk about how their channel evolved from fun car content into major investigations involving Porsche scammers, stolen cars, Bugatti gearbox thieves and dangerous encounters. They discuss the threats they’ve received, what it’s like dealing with police at midnight, why Jane sometimes worries about what Mark gets involved in, and how their daughter Senna has become part of the journey.
They also reflect on buying a McLaren P1 from Harrods, rebuilding a split Bugatti Veyron, staying grounded with money, the pressure of running a huge YouTube channel, and the team behind the scenes that helps make it all happen.
This is a rare look into the family, fear, risks and reality behind one of the UK’s most talked-about automotive YouTube channels.
