Hey guys, welcome to season six of Sack & Penny's Corridor Joy here alongside Ryan Flores.
We're going to break down all things motorsports in the offseason. A lot of stuff ramping up,
getting ready for the Daytona 500. A little bit of pop culture. We're going to spread our wings
and touch on all sorts of stuff this year. It's going to be wild. Let's go.
Stacking them deep, selling them cheap. It tastes like gasoline, grubber, and victory.
We can't get rid of us that easy, buddy. We're here again. We have
done a lot in the offseason. We've been digging. We've been changing jobs, adding jobs, running
businesses. We have those who are listening. You can't see the updated set. We've freshened
this thing up a little bit. We've added some things, moved some stuff around, changed some
lighting. We look nice and shiny for you guys. If you're new to Sack & Penny's, welcome. I'm
Frontier Change River Penske, but you have had, my buddy, a big life shift in the last three months.
A little bit of a life shift. Yeah, definitely changed companies. It's been overwhelming. It
feels like changing schools your senior year. It's because I'm in the Twilight years of my career.
But yeah, it went over to, started January 1st at Hendrick Motorsports. It's been really cool.
We're going to do a majority of the junior motorsports stuff through Hendrick. It's been
really cool. Everybody's seen the facility there. It's been at it. When they walked me through
there the first time, I was like, this is a pit stop facility. It was crazy. I told the young
kids there, I remember being at Roush in 2007 when I started and a guy would back up with a white
suburban and put out some cones. A super nice guy, Robert, and see all the killer bees and all
them back in the day like run around that. And I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I wanted
to just be a picker guy and like get to work out a little bit and now to see where it's come, man.
It's been really cool. But yeah, going to do the majority of junior motorsports stuff. Going to
do the 40 cup car at the 500. So that'll be cool. Yeah. We're both go or go homers for that. And
then the 88 Xfinity car with Raja, the majority season and the cup guys. But yeah, what do you
think junior Johnson would say to these guys having cold plunges? Better be good pit stops.
You better be good. That's that's what I said. He's probably looking at you guys like what can
you ask? Yeah, the red light therapy room. I love it. If I got it, I'm going to take advantage.
It's unbelievable. It's unbelievable. It's really cool. And it's, you know, but a facility is cool
and all, but it's about the people you put in it. And they've got a heck of a staff there at
Hendrick and man, they have like 10 pit crews of cup cars only that that run out of there. So
they have a huge staff, a lot of athletes, and it's been really cool to see. It's just a lot.
It's crazy to see the differences from Penske there and the different approaches with similar
results at the racetrack. But it's been really fun. But yeah, a little bit of context. Your
locker is right next door to the boss. My locker in that sweet locker room is Ryan Flores,
man is going to Jersey, Rick Hendrick, Virginia right next to me. But I did see where he went in
there and saw it and he's like, that's a locker that's never going to be used. So I think I have
some free space. I'm always like cognizant. I put my bag there because I'm like, I'm going to have
my stuff set on Rick Hendrick's locker when he does come in to use the facilities. I always try to
clean it up. Do not leave a dirty sock in the man's locker. But yeah, a little bit of context.
This is my 20th season on the road. Started as a mechanic and then wanted to be a tire changer.
So going back to hitting five has been so cup change to single nut 2022. No big deal.
Won the first ever single nut race. They towed a 500, but I haven't hit five nuts since then,
which is what the Xfinity cars have. So being back to doing that and focusing on that,
it's been really cool. Are you sticking with left hand changes? No, right hand,
back to right hand changing for that. I don't know that I could do that.
But yeah, it's been really cool. You've had a lot going on as well, man. And right when you think
the man doesn't have a ride, all of a sudden you're driving the sixth car to class. You
got to ride with RFK. All of a sudden I got the best thing I've ever sat in my entire life.
And you got a fresh hat. Yeah. I mean, that was always the joke growing up when you're a
development driver, you would always get a collared shirt and a backpack. So here I am,
money. Yeah, I got I got hats and a backpack. You know, I've had every kind of middle to your
Xfinity car call me asking what I'm doing. And those guys are so tight on cash flow, right? It's
expensive to go race and like everybody's need need and sponsorship. And I just
without having a consistent place to put our partners, be it Celsius or Schluter and these
guys, you just kind of lose the stickiness to be able to plug and play like I had. So
entertain some conversations, but nothing really, nothing really, you know, got any traction. And
Brad has always been a friend of mine. And I think he I've raced around him
for years now, right? And I think he's always been super complimentary
of me as a driver and always supportive, always go to him for for advice and things like that.
I'm how to navigate just the garage in general. So he had always always I'd say since like
the right about the start of the the playoffs last year.
We had been talking about trying to run five or six races this this year,
super speed races because Brad feels like they get to the end of these races,
and they don't have strength and numbers to work together relative to Henry cars or
Toyota Chevy's and Toyota's. Yes. Correct. So we had just been kicking around, not really
moving the ball down the field. And, you know, we just go by and it's like, I'm not going to be
pressing because that's when I get really anxious is when I try to just move
pieces on the board that probably aren't meant to be moved or try to leverage relationships.
And I think that for me is one of the biggest reasons why I was burned out because every
relationship in your life is transactional. Every call you're trying to squeeze for some
marketing budgets, every call you're trying to, you know, leverage yourself in a sim job or something.
And I was okay with that being done. You didn't want to beg for a ride anymore? No,
and I wasn't in a position where I had to do that. So if something good came great,
and I was trying to hold it loosely and Chip Bowers, new president of RFK who I've hit it off with,
he's a dog. So definitely adding to the to the culture swing over there at RFK with Brad and
that whole group. We were having coffee over at Perkentile, maybe two days for Christmas,
three days for Christmas. And he got the call from Brad, he just broke his feet. You and the
president were sitting together? Yeah, oh man. And he destiny baby. He goes outside and,
dude, oddly enough, there was a penny literally sitting on the table heads up when we sat down
like, all right, I'm not like looking for a Godwink, but I'm gonna keep this penny.
Uh, keeping it. Have you still got it? I still got it.
Better put that in your pocket, better do that on the back like Earnhardt.
Sorry about your leg, Brad, but I got this penny. Well, and you know, I if it's a God went great,
but so we have we have coffee and prior to the call coming in, we were just like, Hey man,
what can we do? And Chip said, man, we've got partners that we're trying to go put together
a package to go run a fourth car because we feel like you're the guy to do it and we want need
some strength in numbers. And he gets the call and he just comes back in like, Hey man,
be ready. There's a lot of stuff up in the air right now. And he didn't tell me that Brad broke
his leg. Yeah. But you could tell like, Okay, I got to go. Thanks for the coffee. We're rolling,
right? Social media does its thing. You find out Brad breaks his leg and then you're like,
Well, who man, I could be the top option for this and here you are driving the six man.
So it calls. So Brad calls me. Hey man, would love for you to help out here. Drive the car
with the clash. And then it was like, I was in this weird spot because the fourth car and effort
had been paused to figure out what Brad was going on, right? They might need me to drive the six a
day tone. Who knows? And naturally, Brad could have his leg amputated. And he's going to do all
he can to run the dates on 500. That's just what you do as a race car driver. So once it looked
hopeful that Brad was going to be able to recover and go to 500 days, then push play on the fourth
car efforts. And they got it sold to Trimble in house partner they've been trying to grow.
And they called me to do it 99 bringing back the 99. I literally just got a FaceTime with
Carl Edwards to we're going to do some good stuff on social next week. He literally answered
answered the FaceTime I called me there. They called me back. No shirt on six pack 12 degrees
in Missouri. No, no, he is on his boat in the Bahamas. Oh, good for him. Yeah. Let me be clear.
And he's like, I don't even know what day it is, buddy. I'm like, what? What a freaking life you
live. Congratulations, Mr. Edwards. So he talked about it. He's pumped up for me to bring that 99
back to life over to RFK. It's been badass to be in that shop. Holy cow. They got some smart people
and they got some good processes. So that'll be something I'm really looking forward to,
especially when I wasn't even seeing it coming. I mean, you have some inklings and you get your
hopes up and you do all the things. But you know what I call that whole thing? Hell yeah.
That's an Hey, that's NASCAR's new slogan for 2026. More hell yeah. And I love it, man. Is that
is that like a behind the scenes thing? Or is it just I think they leave without I think we
know we know that that's what it is. And I think that's where the sport is gone. You know, there's
so much stuff the last couple of years in the media and just that NASCAR. I mean, I think they've
talked about, you know, been transparent of like, Hey, we might have messed this up.
So we got the chase back. We got a lot of things back. And look, man, there's a lot of
just hell yeah, every week that happens. But a lot of times it gets drowned out by the other
stuff that happens, whether it be a win in your situation or maybe a forced game seven that we
have or a forced playoff moment. And that's all gone. We know we've kind of talked to
the sport and everybody in the sport and the fans. NASCAR has been very transparent through
the lawsuit through everything that went on of and a lot came out through that of just I'm
that I'm glad that's put the bed. That that's the point, right? That's all put the bed. A lot of
things that the fans and that our industry didn't like or had gripes with. I just saw the rovels
gone. And they're going back to the oval for for Charlotte. So a lot of things though, we're
getting back to what NASCAR was, what the roots were. And I think Dale Jr said it best, you know,
he said, Look, we try to mirror ourselves off of sticking ball sports. We don't need that.
If you're a motorsports fan, your motorsports family saw this weekend, the Rolex 24,
the highest attendance, the highest attended Rolex 24 in history. Motorsports are bad ass, man.
Yeah, all around. And NASCAR is the highest form of motorsports in America. And we need to have
our our own our own stuff. We need to own who we are. And hell, yeah, that we're taking that on, man.
So real quick on the lawsuit, I just followed along just like everybody else listened up
to Bianchi and Gluck on their synopsis every day. And glad that's put to bed. Seems like the teams
all won in that. I think the sport collectively won because now that that cloud that hung over
the entire industry is behind us. And now it's onward and upwards. Yeah, there's changes negative
PR. Let's just let's just dial up the hell. Yeah, it seems like we have a fresh slate,
like, like everybody's got a fresh breath of air. And a lot of the things that people called for,
whether it be, you know, that the Phelps Richard Children stuff that came out like that's all put
everything's put to bed. There was a peek behind the curtain. This is what's going on behind the
curtains. This is what people are saying in text messages. This is what what's actually going on.
There was a lot of transparency, maybe too much. But that's but that's in we're in the age of
information, buddy. Somebody goes through my text message. And somebody goes your boss goes through
your text messages ever. Yeah, you're your bone, buddy. But imagine, imagine somebody me and you
were in the middle of negotiating a $7 billion deal. And we're going to be opposed on different
things. You're going to say things about me. And I'm going to say things about you that I
anticipate never seeing the light of day to a confident. Well, it's a Twitter right to everybody
and everybody got to see it. So that being said, all that's behind us now, right? Throw it out.
You know, for the for the new viewers, like they're going to get what motorsports is and for
that for their perspective there, it's going to be less convoluted. Like even for me, I'm in it
and it would get confusing about playoff points and who's in who's not and what that looks like.
Now it's cut and dry. This is who we are. This is what we are. This is what we're going to be
for the foreseeable future. And shout out to, you know, looking at the press conference,
Blaney's must that your mustache is great. Blaney. Blaney is and he's also committed to
like the clean shave, too. He's got the roll. Did you see the picture he's put up about the
llama? He's got scissors. Yeah, he's out there. He was wearing a like a wearable blanket,
petting his llama last night in the snowstorm. But like, but through that, I couldn't get.
I just stared at that. But listening to Mark Martin, you know, I think everybody talked about
Mark and how he kind of just seemed like the old dude stand on a pedestal. But he did it in a way
where he steered the ship and and he like in that press conference, he was an advocate for the sport
and he did it all the whole time of being an advocate for the sport and what he thought was
best for the sport. And this is a great compromise for everybody. And it's going to give you a
deserving champion. I think for Mark to be in those playoff committee with the people that make
decisions for NASCAR, in addition to the, you know, the NBC, the same floods of the world
that also have a massive stake in the sport. To hear everybody's perspective, that's the thing,
right? As a race car driver, you can really and a lot of drivers who Sam flood for context.
He's the NBC. He's the guy. They're the guys that run the networks for sure, because people just
think it's like the one thing that we do and look, we're going to get called NASCAR shields,
whatever. But we put NASCAR, it's just NASCAR in a box. Like that's it. Well, who are you talking
about? Yeah, because there's a lot of different partners. There's OEMs, there's broadcast partners,
team owners, team owners, there's drivers that have the biggest microphone towards the fans,
because people like to sport their guy, the drivers guilty as charged. A lot of them have
the blinders solely on a competitive. How does this serve me and my team and how can I win the most
and then you have the fans who who, you know, pick and choose what they see per their algorithm,
right? And then the media. So there's a lot of people pulling this in different directions,
but it's a breath of fresh air. The I don't know, man, I'm excited to get the season started and
see everything that we got going on. There's a lot of exciting stuff, dude. Let me see, though.
Let me let me make a point about, you know, the hope, right? There's hope in the new chase. There's
hope in X, Y and Z. There's hope in like a new OEM and ramp coming in to support the
structures, which is absolutely hell. Yeah, but we're going to get to that later in the show.
I think fans believe the drivers care much more than they do about whatever playoff system there
is. Like you're going to ask a driver and they're going to be a little bit indifferent because
they're just going to race to the the rules in which the sandbox creates and you just try it
like Joey says. He has pretty much doesn't matter what scheme it is. He's going to go race and try
to figure out how to beat everybody in that particular system. Drivers don't think about it
as much as fans think about it. Like they are way more emotionally attached to whatever
point system playoffs. Get rid of this, get rid of that. We need to go to this. We need to do this
horsepower. We need to do this downforce package. The drivers don't care. They would love a thousand
horse. Well, they care per the team in the car they're sitting in. Of course. So like if you're
if you're Joey and the fours just in the last three or four years have not had the speed that
the Chevy's and Toyota have, but they've been crafting the playoff and figured it out certain
tracks and been able to execute and go win the championship. Then when you win the championship
you forget about that you didn't have as much speed as the Chevy's and Toyota's all year.
We won the championship. Now it's going to change that game so much of week to week how people call
races, how you set your cars up the risk and reward that you take. It's a big deal man. It's
a big shift and I am I'm here for it. Well, let's give the playoffs and the elimination
it's it's flowers for a second. It gave us the hail melon. It gave us some of the
bizarre stuff we've never the Austin Dylan Richmond like call it what you want. That was exciting.
Hail melon at Martinsville. Never going to be seen again, but it was amazing. Ross doing some
Florida man type stuff. So it gave us some stuff. It was good in moderation. It's not the best for
the future of the sport and I'm glad NASCAR shifted gears collectively and I'm a fan of the chase.
I think it's good. Yeah, I was listening. We got away from the chase because Jimmy Johnson won
too many championships right now. We're getting away from the other system because Pinsky won
too many championships. That's kind of what it is, but I think the chase is where we need to be
and you got to give Jimmy Johnson his flowers on how dude they were just so dominant. It wouldn't
have mattered what they had. They would have changed it. They would have figured out the beach.
But the game seven moments that we had that playoffs man. I loved it. I loved being in the
final four. I had to do it four or five times between Cup and Xfinity and it was amazing.
But that's not where we're at anymore and we're moving on as a sport and well let's talk about
something fresh which is right on the heels of the Daytona 24. Super exciting besides a fog
six hour fog delay. Did you see that people were mad that they thought the fog delay was created
by the fireworks because the ceiling was so low that when the fireworks went off it settled the
smoke in and did you I saw hinge cliff and we got some great clips on here of just people
navigating traffic and a wreck in turn one. Of the 24 hour race. So I heard about it. I didn't see
but hinge cliff real quick when they were under that six hour long caution.
He got out of the car. He just got done with a stint and they put in the driver that was going
to finish the race for the night stint and they were like hey get back here. We're going to take
this guy out so he's fresh for the end of the race. You're going to get back in and drive this
caution until they bring it back until they bring it back to green. So he ran he ran under caution
and he said that the way that he was able to stay awake and keep just at it and keep focused was by
saving fuel. So they played like a fuel saving game and all the drivers were trying to figure out
when they could shut their cars off and who could save the most amount of fuel.
So racers are always being crafty but you don't get a chance to just like check out.
There's always some sort of competitive advantage to go find. Yeah but the traffic the traffic here
is insane how there's just what's there three or four different classes. Well the prototypes are so
oh man oh oh oh oh and we're watching a clip right now of Daytona prototype coming up on some of
the slower cars was a GTP. There's so many different but the speed variance is so crazy.
Well and also he's in the slipstream too right so he's getting a massive tow through the triable
fast part of the racetrack and then these two run into each other at the fastest part of the
racetrack gets the big draft gets gets to his outside right about the start finish line and
clip each other. Good thing they got wings on. Oh dude yeah the wing the wing saved them there.
I don't know sure exactly what that guy was doing because. Side drafting buddy. I guess.
You've seen Earnhardt do that 98. He's gonna do it himself. I mean keep him keep him behind him.
I mean I guess if it's time to go it's time to go. Lap one turn one crash. So everybody kind of funnels
in so they got the Daytona prototypes. I think the LMP2 are the second fastest cars so they kind
of start them fastest the slowest and my buddy just overcooked it into the corner on lap one.
I don't know if the tires are cold or the brakes are cold but I saw McDowell yesterday.
We were out with kids sledding all the stuff and he said LM like those prototypes on cold tires are
legitimately like you're on black ice or treacherous. Yeah it's crazy that imagine though the amount
of work and the preparation you got to go for 24 hours and your driver overcooks it in the one
like you gotta know like just get I know like on a 40 lap indoor race like you can't win it on lap
one like wait till 20 start picking them off. What I mean you can't win it in the first 15 seconds
it's 24 hours brother. What are we doing 23 hours and forty five hours the team owner I would be
chewing some ass. Yeah. Oh dude. My old man did it. He didn't 20. Yeah. Why don't ask our drivers
not do it. Like why is SBG not there. It's OEM based. There's that right because as these guys get
in you know really factory backed cup deals be it Chevrolet and Chevrolet right.
Indy car guys can do it because there's only two manufacturers and Honda doesn't have a
IMSA effort so that's why Scotty Mack and these guys can go. Alex Palo can go.
Sillich was in the Cadillac. Yeah. Now almost one they were racing on the last lap but they were not.
They couldn't be two different worlds you know of like people and connections and all the stuff
like besides Penske. Yeah but I remember the race and they won three years in a row. I remember
you know more NASCAR guys doing like the Earnhardt in the Corvettes dude that those things are the
yellow Corvettes that are so sick but yeah there's just not that crossover that there used to be
so good. Shout out to Chris. The only 24 hour race that our friend group and I was there I didn't
race in it but you guys ran was the Victory Lane Go Kart 24 hour race and Kyron asked what's it like
to run 24 hours. I don't know but I know that it was good in theory but by lap by like hour number
six everybody was over it at the VLK Go Kart race. So we did 20 we thought it was a good idea we were
15, 16, 17 in that range. Joey was a cup driver because he had a bus he brought his bus there thank
God. So it was me, Logano, Coleman Presley, Brandon maybe. Yeah Steve and Kyle Grissom I think
Steve Grissom's son yeah we thought it was gonna be a good idea and then we were all gung-ho we
were in the top three we were digging we were doing driver swaps having a blast until it was about
2 a.m. and I wake up on the couch and I'm looking around and I'm like I had my alarm go off I'm
like okay I gotta get ready at 15, 20 minutes. I look up and I'm like every person from our team
is sleeping the motorhome. Nobody's out in the car our car was literally just sitting in pit lane.
Well the best is that your buddy a high school friend of Corey's Dustin Foster stopped by and
you guys put him in the car and left him in there for four hours. We just kept going we all left
like and he just stopped by to say hey you're like hey jump in this thing for a little bit four hours
he's like neck is flopping back and forth and he goes he's like finally I didn't think you guys
were ever gonna come. You gotta have a conviction to be able to strap into a car with you and your
buddies for 24 hours and remain focused over that time to go get the win and which makes even more
impressive that that Penske and Porsche and that group wins three straight row and the most impressive
part to me through shout out to them guys for winning and the pit strategy that went into it
and everything that did you see um Yelkin was talking about it a lot. Shout out Matt Yelkin
dude it's always good to see him on the broadcast but he was talking about Felipe Nasser having a
meeting with Roger Penske in a mall parking lot. He texted him like hey just keep me in mind I've
always wanted to drive for you and he's like yeah meet me in this mall parking lot that's where he
met the captain at and that's where they put the deal together but for them guys to be racing
like I was really invested 20 minutes ago they're trying to pass each other next to each other
just driving the hell out of those cars after 24 hours but yes for Penske
to go three in a row dude hell yeah for them uh that's that's a huge effort. I am curious the
number on how many guys peed in their seat over that yellow flag. Oh I wonder if they have like a
catheter in there. Let's let's call Conor Zorsi with the answers.
Hey buddy. Man I look good don't I? You always look good. Are you riding? I'm riding, riding
backseat. Who's driving? Pops. Hey shout out Jim Zillich. Yep shout out, shout out Jim.
Uh yeah I mean you made it as a cup driver when you're able to have pops just drive you along
is that yours? Oh yeah I just bought it. Hey what is it? Uh 2026 Dutch Star. Okay shit. You all right
get us some get some more. Yeah I've been eating hot Doritos. Is that like the fuel you need after
24 hours? Anything, anything. Dude I slept like a baby last night. We're already rolling so
anything you say now can and will be used against you. All right sounds good. How was it dude?
It was awesome. It was really cool. I had some really really cool teammates. The team was awesome.
The car is unlike anything I've ever driven the hybrid system adds so much and and you're able to
change so much. Is it a button? Everything is buttons yeah yeah the team can't control anything
so everything they tell you is like coded because all the teams are listening to the radio so it's
all code words so you it took forever to learn everything about the car and everything I need
to know and all the commands that they tell me it's like a 65 page manual so um yeah it's it was
it was a lot to learn but um it was really really fun. I had a I had a question and you might be
able to help with this. How many guys peed the seat and left it during the yellow flag?
Nobody thankfully. I uh I was about to get in I was I got they woke me up at 12 30. I was supposed to
get in around 121 30 and the caution comes out at like 1 a.m. and I wasn't in the pit box in time
to get in so they had to leave early when the caution first came out for fog and so I got in
probably like an hour later so around like 2 15 and like right before I get in I'm sitting in the
pit box and the engineer comes over the intercom he's like Connor do you have to pee this might be
a while and I was like I'll go pee right now just to make sure not realizing I was going to get in
the car and drive around that 60 miles an hour for four hours um it was the most it was the
worst four hours of my life it was just so unbelievably boring. Were you singing to yourself
like how do you keep yourself from checking out? I uh I did I started singing to myself a little
bit I uh I started asking questions anything to just keep myself awake because I would literally
like I'd be driving around and I would just like close my eyes I'm like I could so easily fall
asleep right now and just stuff it in the back of something and it was bad like I I was I probably
shouldn't even say this but I was like loosening my belts a little bit so I just wasn't like completely
locked in um so it was it was a long four hours but um I made it through it and uh yeah somebody
had to do it my teammates one of my teammates said he woke up or he went to bed and when I was in the
car and he woke up and I was still in the car so they were uh they were glad that that I was able
to go out there and do that for them but it was the worst four hours I've ever spent in a race car
kind of we've had a lot of questions today why are there not more NASCAR guys crossing over and
doing that now? I don't know it was only me and AJ this year but um I wish more guys would do it
it's such an awesome race and such a cool event and um it's kind of cool because like I feel like a
lot of the fans that go to that race are also NASCAR fans like a lot of the people that go to the
24 are also going to the 500 and like I you know I don't I don't race a ton of sports cars but I
feel like I have a really big presence when I go to those races so um I wish those guys would
you know I wish a couple more NASCAR guys would at least try I know it's really hard to get a ride
there's a lot of you know competition to get a seat but um it would be cool if more guys stepped
up to try and do it what about like the what's the vibe like in the culture compared to like when
you go there for the 500? It's honestly you know it's reasonably similar uh this year was packed
like there was a lot of people there um I was impressed it was obviously the most attended 24 yet um
and just you know a lot of the same stuff going on a lot of the same fans and and the only thing
that really changes is fans or anybody with a general mission ticket is allowed in the garage
so that it gets really really busy inside the garage and you know as soon as you walk out of
your hall or there's hundreds of fans right there you know watching the car and watching the cars get
built um so honestly as a fan like they you know for fan experience you're able to see a lot more
and do a lot more at the 24 but um it's it's honestly like the fans that stay up to the night
like I was driving around under caution at 3 30 in the morning and I'm looking up in the grandstands
and there's still people sitting in the stands I'm like what are you what possibly leads you to
to want to watch us drive around under caution um maybe that's when those guys were fist fighting
maybe that's when they caught did you catch the fist fight from the seat or what yeah there's
120 000 seats and there's you got the whole entire grandstand and you're gonna fight this guy right
behind you like you yeah so your pops is driving motorhome back north when you get back all focus
on NASCAR stuff what's it what's it look like in terms of yeah he's uh I had a flight last
yesterday but it got cancelled so I was like hey dad can I ride with you because he stayed in my
motorhome um I just got one for the cup of season so mom and dad stayed in it for the 24 and I had
one rented with the team so um yeah we're on our way home and yeah we reached the clash this weekend
most likely as long as the winner is decent um but yeah I'm excited it's uh yeah season's starting
it's coming up quick it's it's happened really quickly it's here um so yeah I'm pumped I get to
race against you in a few weeks too hey well this week this week I'm running the clash in the sixth
oh yeah you're running the clashes yeah for uh for Brad we'll get a little shake and bake action at
the 500 going on hey I got uh I'm on the 88 team this year changing tires for the for Marty got
any pointers for the old uh Marty Lindley 88 lead bunch oh you're on the 88 yeah that's a good team
dude it's uh Marty's a good dude and and I hope Raj does well I think he will um you know it's easy
to get along with Marty and he obviously you know I showed it he brings really fast cars to the track
every weekend and he knows his stuff so I'm pumped to see what they do and hope he can get a few wins
especially I mean there's cup guys that are gonna come down and run that thing so pressure's on
pressure's on dude there's a guy named Bevis on the team he seems cool Patrick and Bevis
yeah it's a good Patrick yeah hey that's the gang Tanner it's a good team I uh I saw a quote from
your presser down there at some point in time this weekend that you said that if you had a quote on
quote good cup first couple years on the NASCAR side you would potentially look at it I have one
deal what is good like what like championship run like what like nothing's good enough right quote
unquote like what would that look like I don't know honestly I don't know what good looks like I don't
know what the opportunity would have to be for me to want to switch over there but it's it's not easy
it's not like you just go straight to F1 and hop in a car and you know you're it's you got to go
through the whole feeder system get a super license um there's so much that goes into it but um they
asked me that on tv and um you know growing up my dream was to race in F1 so I uh I thought it would
be cool but um you know I just it it's so far-fetched that I doubt anything would ever happen to give me
the right opportunity to go over there and race in F1 but um it fits with the right team and you
I feel like I've been everything I want to do on this side of the pond and um you know maybe I would
maybe I would think about it but I'm pretty happy with where I'm at you should be because you got a
great squad and you're gonna have a great year so I appreciate the time buddy safe travels back I'll
see you here this weekend thank you yes see you in a few days all right pal see you I saw that if
that Cadillac would have won he'd have been the youngest winner ever of Daytona 24 yeesh
and then dude Cadillac's got a lot of big news obviously their road racing program but I at
Hendrick every day I see that big Cadillac F1 shop being built I'm like man that is so cool and we
had um who's it Dr. Eric Warren came in and talked about that if you didn't catch that episode go back
and listen he gave us a big insight on uh on what Cadillac F1 their efforts and how many employees
they have and what they're the how they're putting their best foot forward to go into this F1 season
how do you think it's going to be for him well I love bolt drivers Checo and Valtteri both are
studs guys they have one GP's a lot of experience I think that was the right move to go an experienced
guy but they got Colton Hertha and F2 like I've never watched nor give gave a crap about watching
F2 race but I'm gonna watch or be interested in everyone to see how our guy does uh so dude you
see Valtteri Botes has embracing the American F1 well that was the I mean the the release was
him wake surfing with holding a holding a freaking he was wearing pit vipers an American flag now
you have a paddle or mustache I might take a little bit of offense to if that's what he thinks
every race fan is but also he's dead nuts on it's not that every race fan is like that it's that
everybody has that inside of them even if they don't look like it you got that little bit of
yes everybody wants to have screaming bald eagle underwear yeah actually I need to find a pair
that will make you faster it's it is zoomed in on his crotch we're looking at his Instagram
right now and it's zooming out um but yeah dude it's it's so much fun to have an American presence
in F1 with how popular F1 has gotten here in the States we need a team and Cadillac is the
perfect fit for that the brand everything about it it's going to be so cool to have that represented
they're doing their they're doing their livery reveal at the for a commercial during the 500
or not the 500 sorry the Super Bowl oh nice yeah being on being on the Hendricks campus now I try
to see if I can get in that pit department what do you think that looks like uh don't the mechanics
heck can do that too all do what we're looking at was he got a granola bar over his face yeah he
does for mustache that kind of looks like your mustache it does that kind of looks like a
nature's valley mustache it does um a couple liveries come out you guys know that we love
grade and some some liveries outies was it outies the flow orange
that looks yeah that looks a little bit like Lewis Hamilton's McLaren McLaren yeah yeah that
would confuse me but that's awesome you know F1 cars don't have a lot of space like a NASCAR does
where you can tell who it is yeah so to get them like the orange makes it pop yeah I was watching
that too that was one gripe I had with watching the end of the 24th why is everybody's car red and
black I don't know do something different the Cadillac and the Porsche looked eerily similar
yeah so I think it was just a white nose that kind of set the Porsche apart pain different so
I would give we're going to grade that one right quick I mean I'd also love the the German
aspect of this with with Nico Ockenberg driving one Audi being a German brand they brought
adidas is now their apparel sponsor as well as Mercedes so tying the whole German theme into
this it's going to be an all world affair is the Mercedes still silver like that so they're black
and silver they look pretty good too I don't know if you have any other ones keyed up but I would give
that one I love the orange accents though I do I'm gonna give that one like a eight seven yeah I
you know what now that we're great in paint schemes I was a little pissed off of your paint scheme
and all of and Roush is you're pissed off I was pissed off at Roush shout out to Roush
for doing the biffle numbers yeah not a shout out for Roush for not putting that any number on
any of their cars for the 500 on a solid color they're all mixed together so I was like man
I don't because you because like the we've talked about a lot on here the numbers on a solid color
to make the number stick out is huge I think that's why the three was always so you know just
the white on black white on black you can see it yeah when it gets too many stripes through it too
much it's too much you can't see the only person won't be able to see my paint scheme is me so I
don't I don't mind yeah yeah don't matter what it looks like when you sit inside of it that's right
I like the blue wheels on this one this is the actual McLaren yeah the McLaren looks well it looks
but it's just a testing livery it says oh it is okay so that's but the blue is that Microsoft
wheels is that what they got yeah okay chrome it's cool it's cool I don't know it's going away from
the papaya I don't love it mm-hmm hey money'll do that yeah I do interesting and cool to see the
number one pie and I'll lend those car what else what else came out I like I like seeing all the
the NASCAR schemes kind of start popping up I saw the 40 the traveler whiskey car I you know what I
loved about what they did with with the traveler cars they put as such a it seems like such a Dale
junior thing because he's old school but they put contingency stickers with their own logos in it
yeah to make it look a little bit more old school I do like that so so that was really cool I'm glad
school western looking 40 on the side maybe I've been working a lot on that pit box I'm ready
I'm sure Greg has been working a lot on that car because there's a lot of good cars going down there
to try to qualify for the crazy part about the 42 before we get on to Dakar which is some crazy
stories coming out of Dakar but there are so many wins and championships working on the 40 car
because it's all retired like people from Hendrick that have been around forever yeah and I was like
man there's just like a who's who if you added up all the wins and championships around the car
I would say would rival any other team in the garage for the 500 you're probably you're probably
right because a lot of those those guys don't want to chase the dragon for 36 weeks anymore those
all those guys probably tapped out and they I'm done man yeah and they get call me one off in the
shop as managers or different things and they get you know tapped in the guys on that thing well
like I think about Lisa smoke said just that she's been at Hendrick forever she's in charge of tires
there and um we'll work circles around anybody she's just so awesome um but and it's just everybody
gray guys and everybody involved in that team uh it's really cool man I'm excited excited to get
there but I I'm probably guilty of not catching too much of the Dakar rally um but we're talking
about hell yeah there I just saw this well hell no the guy leading um the Dakar rally on his motorcycle
went the wrong way he had a we're saying a navigational error
yes navigational error seven minutes from the finish no yep sorry seven you know seven kilometers
kilometers I don't know how much that is but he ended up losing by like seconds no two seconds
going the wrong way no that reminds me of um the little rascals series remember little rascals
when they went the wrong way they switch the arrow and they go the wrong way that reminds me of that
but uh imagine what's it a thousand miles I think oh here it is this guy that lost
Ricky Bray back tough tough on a swallow he's not gonna be able to sleep all year yeah dude
what if somebody hacked into his nav system oh that's the cheating stuff that people don't think
about yeah I mean there's I mean there's been then stories about drift guys that have ECUs that
shut off the guy in front of them to try to just keep the gap tight I mean there's also
where's there's racing they're cheating buddy oh yeah this is uh homeboy he he crashed during
Dakar on his motorcycle oh broke his collar bone he said collar bones a long way from the heart
buddy I'm gonna finish this race he got on there finished in true Australian fashion when they put
the microphone in front of his face he says uh mom and dad didn't raise no uh quitter chucky sanders
so he finished the race with a built different collar bone dude can you imagine riding a motorcycle
with a broken collar bone I couldn't imagine riding Dakar anyway let alone with a broken
collar bone that's why he's on the Red Bull KTM buddy that those guys uh those guys are built
different so yeah we got our hell no moment and our hell yeah moment all in one race um
one thing that I saw this is a little bit unrelated to uh on track stuff did you see Bubba's
wall his helmet wall I sent that in the group chat because I think that that's something that fans
want to see um they they want to see that type of stuff because it's not often you get a peek
into somebody's house for one but also uh kind of what their feel is on and design of helmets
but my mind instantly went to oh my gosh that's a lot of money in helmets cup driver
shit you cup driver's always worried about money no I don't run shoe berth helmets that he runs
because they're fifty five hundred dollars I'd imagine bubble Wallace doesn't have to buy
of course he does like I don't buy shoe berth better be given them helmets I bet no I bet it's
just an open account man whatever you need and we'll send you the bill and you know guys on the
front side of the garage they have helmets and all the things supplied for them but I haven't had
a shoe berth helmet because they're too expensive for me to buy you do the math plus some paint
on that wall but the the post was for scottie max indy 500 helmet and if I talked to Bubba
during production day I said hey man known you for a long time you still owe me some gas money
from bringing you to school I would call a square with a helmet swap and he's like man I I don't
have any interest in doing it I told scottie mac that I wanted his helmet like to start the year
he said I want your indy 500 scottie mac was probably good we're giving that away too take this
helmet he said get this thing out of here he that thing flipped over and practicing crashed
and that thing also crashed first lap of the race I'm sure he was happy to get that bad juju
helmet over to Bubba yeah get it out he said also there's one hang on the wall that was painted
up like star wars he said that blaney's gonna get that one but I'm still working on I'm gonna get one
of those helmets what are you gonna do that you got a helmet collection I've got a couple here
I mean one helmet I got in the off season that was pretty cool it's marty ropens helmet behind me
um so there was apparently an estate sale marty's family or whatever obviously marty
passed away several years ago uh he would be like the equivalent of like a zack brian
trying to going to be a cup driver you know running a couple races a year that's what marty
robbins would be uh back in the 70s he ran his paint scheme at darlington so we just throw back
paint scheme he was his his number was 777 so nascar gave us some flexibility we ran 777 on our
cup car um and it looked really cool it did some diecast with it so a friend of mine saw the facebook
ad of all the estate sale and he's like yo you need this I'm like absolute
so I was in a bidding war with the grand old optlery for that beat him well congrats dude yeah
so that don't tell don't let kelly know that no the grand just a fan of the grand old opera
yeah no it's the jan really the grand old opera hell yeah would beat the grand old opera it didn't
break the bank too bad but I think that was something cool to have and in a cool story
especially being that that we ran the car so a couple new tracks um this year san diego
obviously is the big one that everybody's been talking about I'm excited about that you see jensen
button was talking about he was on the imsa broadcast saying that he wanted to try to find a
truck ride for that one oh that'd be great there's gonna be a lot of dude there's a lot of trucks
with st p they're going the same thing just like rifle off the the entry list for the for the tona
truck race tony stewart back uh michael mcdowell is cletus in the truck yeah in what I think I've
heard that cletus might be in a truck okay yes uh have not heard that oh travis pastrana travis
pastrana is back you I'm back let's go breaking news see let's talk about this the Henderson 75
telling somebody the other day yeah Henderson 75 badass truck yeah light blue yeah always sticks out
you are the modern day park klingman with a mustache yeah uh I love that parker and I are
literally the same um but I am especially dodge coming in like I'm all about truck racing and then
that now they're going to a square body uh because like we talked about a little bit last year when I
went to martinsville you could tell the difference between like the front row and tricon bodies compared
to the field yeah an arrow is king and they have they have the trucks have more aerodynamics than any
other series we run so they're kind of pulling that back a little bit which we've seen that help with
expinity yeah um so they're pulling that back a little bit so hopefully that puts everybody on a
level playing field but there's nothing I love more than sitting out like on my back patio on my
couch on a Friday night and watching a good old craftsman truck race it reminds me of the days
like jack spray turning right with the white gloves and just getting the boys together
cracking a beer open and watching a truck race on a Friday night is the best it's going to be
it's going to be a stack field today so I'm excited to chop it up uh with with those guys
lot of wrecks in that there's gonna be a lot of wreck because I'll tell you there's nothing more
funner speedway anymore than a truck because they have more power than because they're more draggy
the cab is taller they just place more air so they need more power to be able to run
relatively comparable speeds than to the cup cars but that means that when you're in the draft
you get way bigger run they look like they get way more assy too for sure you need to put it's like
driving in the snow you need to put some cinder blocks in them but get some rear weight in that
thing well off a turn four is where you see all the wrecks because they got the guys in the bottom
they're tight they're trying to get the thing to turn the grabs and then it you got somebody on your
door so and they're always three or four wide and it's also you got to think about it's everybody's
first race of the year a lot of these guys have probably never driven a truck or driven at Daytona
these guys get in a bad spot they don't know all of a sudden it's like tight tight tight I'm spun out
what happened well there's also something to be said about you know the truck series the guys in
the truck series don't have the experience or like the tools that the guys in the cup series have so
they make more mistakes so that makes the racing better right and it creates opportunity you about
one Talladega you were in position to win Rajah got in a bad spot behind pushing you coming to the
checkered at Talladega so it's a race that you can definitely when Chris Carrier is still wrenching
on that thing he's awesome Chris Carrier old school crew chief he kind of runs that 75 do you
aware they're up in the mountains ain't they up near Bristol is that where their shop is Johnson
City or somewhere up there so it's a really cool little team that you're driving for so Debbie
Debbie Creasy Henderson Charlie Henderson's daughter is taking over the team wants to continue
her dad's legacy and we thought what better place and also welcoming back
longtime friend and partner built bar let's shout out Nick Greer been a friend a long time
haven't really had a great place to put him and to get him back in the fold to offer him
everything he needs on the marketing side for built so it's cool to get him back on the one off
the light blue built matches the light blue it's a match made in heaven like lamb and tuna fish
I love it love it one thing I did not love Kyren's got it pulled up a couple weeks ago I started
on fire in Allentown it's a big fire uh Kyren says hell yeah a lot of people said hell yeah about
this I said hell no they made for a cool picture but holy cow man it was hot too it was like long
enough to I've never been on fire that bad thank god all the safety stuff did its job but my fire
suit definitely did change colors like whoa I'm on I'm on real fire here so context to this also I
have blown up motors and everything I've raced this off season I blew up a motor at caraway
602 crate motor am I modified I blew up my midget at the rumble in Fort Wayne past for the lead
the motor went from 8000 rpm to off and I caused a large wreck and then first practice in the tq
midget in Allentown I broke a motor so I'm sorry the thrash starting to see a cometer nominator here
I'm on the gas buddy I'm on the gas they can't take it these motors cannot take the right foot
but through the thrash the motor had a titanium bolt motor kind of got stuck in there so we were
beating the living crap out of this bolt to get it out through that the fuel regulator kind of got
like pushed and sandwiched and then it just kind of like there's like a little t and it twisted and
then it untwisted right then so we ran the heat race and everything like this and everybody was
like commenting like got a nut and bolt your car so I hope that none of our listeners have ever
experienced fire that close when you have a fireball right next to you what is what is it like
it's like gets hot real quick and you realize you I think as a racer you take it for granted
but that and I'll say that I did right but I've always been cognizant of like keeping my neck
collar pulled up making sure my fire suit zipped all the way up having my fireproof underwear on
having you know my everything tucked in right just in case but like I've never really thought
about it like it's just stuff kind of in my checklist and I was like oh shit like this
couldn't happen to anybody really quickly so it was it was a lot and I you know I didn't
get any burn it was a little bit like kind of like sunburn like the next day I was like oh I kind
of feel like I sat out in the beach a little too long but uh got back I tried to get back in I got
back in the car there and they wouldn't let me go because there was too much fuel fire no they
said there's it's coming out and like no it stopped leaking there was a little bit of fire
extinguisher fluid in there so it would have been gone in like one I would have won one lap on the
bottom going all out and I've been good just like every fire you see whether it's on pit road
or anything it's the one firefighters chance to make this this is my day no dude they did such a
great job they came out and someone pointed out in that video that I put up shout out John Russell
the fire fireman that was the first one they put his finger over the nozzle so didn't just kill
everything it kind of diluted it and they they were put it out quicky look they shut the fuel off
there's like the safety safari at uh yeah the safety safari at the indoor races are
second and on that's why I keep going back and I'm going back this week Atlantic City the granddaddy
of all asphalt indoor races this weekend coming out this would be number three number four but
I got thrown out for one so this would be the third one if if we can win it and try to I should
have won the second night of allentown came back after that fire came back the next night
led to race five to go went against my own rules buddy I picked the top with five to go
because there's a lot of rubber up there Matt Swanson moved me up out of the rubber a little
bit and got the win so yeah going to the clash though I ran Bowman Gray last year near and near
to my heart a lot of cool hype and you're back behind the wheel you've got to win at Bowman Gray
I saw they salted that place this week they got it right it's going to be a cold one at the clash
but it's going to be exciting I'm curious I'm curious what Justin Swilling got from NASCAR's
heading up the that event the the cookout clash at Bowman Gray stadium it was it was electric
last year I was there just kind of hanging out with RWR watching it taking it all in and it was
energy was high just like you'd expect Bowman Gray to have it the place looks great safe for
barriers and fencing and all the stuff and it actually was pretty good race so they're calling
for weather I don't know what's gonna happen there this weekend but Panovich Brad Panovich
here in Charlotte he's got to have some he's got to have a deal with Lowe's where he's getting
kicked back on all generators he's selling yeah I can't trust no melt I love him it's a tough job
I love being prepared I can't trust this man anymore no because it was a little bit more
it was made out to be a little bit more than it was yeah but if it would have been bad we were
prepared so I guess that that's what it's all about Bowman Gray is awesome man so I'm excited
we've been in the sim a couple times with that sixth group try to find a little speed I mean
how's Bolin's been the work with Jeremy Bolin's crew chief on the sixth I work for
Bolin's for probably six or seven years nobody nobody and I'll say this again nobody I grew up
in a junkyard in blue it's junkyard in New Jersey and I just get my ass chewed in the morning just
to get it out of the way nobody's chewed my ass more than Jeremy Bolin's has in my life he was
my crew chief for a long time I changed tires from him on the 22 expanded car onto the 21 cup car
and with the 12 I mean we're probably together I have not done anything that deserves an ass
chewing yet we'll see what we get happens and we'll give the racetrack it's coming yeah I mean
I hope it is it's coming it's been a little while since it's been a little while since I've got my
ass chewed and good and proper that's good you need it I told him he he wrote me an Instagram
message he said talk to your boy I said uh keep his ass in line like him he'll be good he's got
some wins I mean he'll say you know that that he'll you know he'll make a comment yeah I mean
makes good pace whenever you hit the bottom that's it that's those little ones well yeah
you're you're right buddy yeah just trying to find a little more so this year O'Reilly's
sponsoring the no apps yeah and Xfinity's here's no apps NASCAR O'Reilly auto parts series so when
you see it on the schedule it's no apps so but they're saying they need more bushwhacking so
they have what they got written down more cup guys are going to be in the have they made the
bush role he was winning too many Xfinity races put the lid on that limited to five races for
cup drivers with a certain amount of experience say three or four years of cup experience
now they have taken the lid back off okay we need to have the larson's in the chase elliott's and
lot grass chastain's running in our lower series to just I have my own opinions as to why but
people watch Sunday what's your opinion my opinion is people watch Sunday racing do but they have
an affinity for these guys so when they go even you know Carson hosts about running a substantial
amount of truck races like McDowell like they know these guys so they would be more apt to
tune in to watch a cup guy than somebody on the way up and I wish it wasn't that way that's just
the way it is I don't know but that's where names like they say that's where names are made and that's
the the ratings have been through the roof on the CW incredible rating so every race was
over a million I'm excited to get back to it but yeah I mean I'm gonna be on a car with a
couple cup guys driving it 10 times or so this year so I'm excited about that you know excited
to work with on the 88 yes I'm excited to work with Kyle Larson chase Elliott William Byron and
Raja too and Alex Bowman I'm getting a massive shot he's gonna start the year I believe a lot of it
in the 32 over Jordan Anderson's and I'm gonna start the year the first three races are in the 88
so and I went over and met with Marty Linley crew chief of the 88 and his team
man they're so buttoned up well they went 10 races that's a hell of a team
so yeah they won 10 races with Connor you know Connor didn't have a really hot start they worked
together and Marty's been around a long time so it's it's exciting to be part of and like get just
getting a little bit of a glimpse into I didn't realize how big junior motor sports was and walking
around there there's like a who's who of who used to be just badass on pit road that kind of the
retirement gig there so talk to a lot of guys and I'm really excited about being part of that but
yeah it's gonna be uh it's gonna be a fun year for sure um O'Reilly's racing buddy O'Reilly we
hit on trucks we hit on the new job I'm excited Ram did you watch the Ram TV show I wasn't able
to watch it was blocked out on my Fox with news but I saw the clips and it looks awesome dude
the production value on that show is awesome they had the guy the guy from Landman
he's always at the chili bowl too yeah saw him and he was down there
but I got a love that they put him in a house like the ultimate fighter you ever watch UFC like
the ultimate fighter and took and took their phones all month really like they were in their
20 days or something and literally they didn't have their phone come on yeah wow I love it love
love island yeah but like Trevor Ward is a late-mile stock guy really good at south
Boston motor mile other places he worked on your car when you ran the John Chris paint scheme at
Wilkesboro last year right so I hit it off with him and he he knows the cars inside and out and
just gets them and hauls the mail so I was tech I was texting him a couple things like hey man
he's never driven on a road course so I texted Trevor Ward some thoughts and for the entirety
because Casey my brother works for college he's he's on the social media side all that
so like I knew that it was filming was going on this range right and I was like well Trevor didn't
text me back like kind of offended yeah what the hell and he texted me back a couple weeks later
like hey man just got my phone back they took it for the entirety from the time you went to the house
to the time you checked out and the show was over you didn't have a phone that's crazy yeah
I mean Landon Huffman a lot of these young it was cool to see these young Michael Christopher Jr
you know many Tyrell all these guys awesome beer shot awesome beers yeah that's what I love about
a new OEM coming to sport because it's they think of things a new way right we've taught everybody's
talked about doing like a drive research like what like what Rouse used to do but nobody's done it
and they have a they're like a fresh breath of air new bunch of people they come in not saying that
our sport gets stale a lot but like the same people doing the same thing forever
you need to have people come in and shake stuff up yes right and that's what that's what it raises
the bar it raises the bar for the for Chevy it raises the bar for Toyota and it raises all ships
I mean whoever wins this it's done now right and we know who won but whoever wins this watch the show
it's either on YouTube or on FS1 this is the opportunity of a life of a lifetime these guys
any of the 20 could never get this opportunity without a substantial financial backer no
coming behind them so whoever earned that opportunity to go race that ram truck
is going to be well deserved and it stinks for the other guys that came close and didn't get it but
that ram deal is going to be pretty cool new faces new places they got Daniel Dye
Justin Haley I just saw him Celsius is taking his primary sponsorship as well as AJ Almonddinger
Tony Stewart in Daytona there's an all-star truck more to come on that as well yeah every week
they're going to announce like who oh butter bean butter bean lightening McQueen lightning
butter bean Brandon McQueen shout out him he was on with Edward Charles McQueen with us last year
no waffle house is safe excited for those guys man it's such a big deal and you know what this
can grow into in the next two five ten years is going to be huge for them one of those guys could
be the face of dodge coming back into the cup series and that's a huge opportunity man it's
shout out to them another thing that's a huge opportunity this year pit road boats and woes
we loved it dogs of the week but that's gone we got it we're going to shift gears from the dogs
to the boss the pit bosses of the week pit boss grills coming on board we're excited about that
and the pit bosses of this week now that racing has started is that penske number seven bunch
Travis law they hit the they executed perfectly here there's a dead heat between him them and
Cadillac and they got out in front with strategy that's a that's a classic penske move just take
enough fuel to get you the lead and then they were able to race out the end that's the move
there's about 18 minutes to go and then I saw some people up in arms about this about there's
pretty stringent blocking penalty and this is a little bit like I don't know if I'd call that
blocking he's on the racing surface that guy was more defending that's yeah he's defending
I don't know double y'all lines they're there for NASCAR people get mad about that but that is not
pertain to these cars I mean that he if he wanted to rifle it down in there he could have it would
have been a massive wreck and have been cool to watch but that was more of a shade to the left
and a block I guess but you know and I think this is made for great TV the penske seven I'm curious
how many pit stops those guys did over the course of 24 hours but they usually do like one and
one and I don't know is it 20 something 20 there's a lot yeah but um but yeah I I don't know I've
like have this romantic thing that I like love would would love to do the 24 but then about
hour 10 I'd be about over it yeah but then maybe you catch your second win yeah after the fireworks
go off get a cup of joe get after it the woe of the week so on the Acura they come in the pit
and they obviously didn't get the wheel tight so yeah everybody talks about this happening
the NASCAR it happens everywhere just think about when you're doing it you know sub nine
seconds eight second pit stops at Vegas wheels come off it's one of the things that if it's you
know with the single locking nut if it's not tight it comes off unfortunately for these guys they
were leading at this point and then they get a penalty on top of that so it probably takes
another race they come in they do a pit stop they have to change the front end of it because the
splitters dragging the ground they just got to go through all these checks and balances that just
completely ruin their race so this is the woe of the week and then social media did its thing had
the wheel rolling around people playing music nothing like making I don't know a picker guy
feel worse after his wheel just fell off a national television to make some change though
look at the nose change that is it's awesome now I could I can make a case for the actual
woe of the week is if you look to the right up in the grandstands row 14 there are two guys just
throwing haymakers at each other oof that's a woe because if I'm going to the racetrack especially
at one race that lasts 24 hours what can somebody say to me at 8 30 p.m that makes me want to stand
up and punch and fight so I digested that video and what I came up with was one of two things
either one that guy nobody wanted to help because they just nobody intervenes anymore and they just
assumed film it then go down their stuff or that guy that was getting punched was being so obnoxious
obnoxious that they were everybody around was like yes just somebody beat this guy up is he
eagles that's like he's got eagles colors on that we're gonna call we're gonna call him an eagles
must be an eagles fan look at this guy's just walking away I'm out of here that guy's going to
finally finally the one dude's like all right enough enough there's 200 000 seats at Daytona
or how he was really mad he's like okay I'm done like wait actually I got I got like two that's a big
bow that's a pow oh he's wearing a new porch shirt that looks like eagles he's gonna pull
he's gonna pull a shoe off too that guy he had enough that's wild well how can you be that mad
that guy must have done something to him I'm I'm saying that this guy is the victim I mean by the way
everybody around him's acting yeah I'm saying he's the victim so I don't know who knows I don't know
concept lead into that that's just right in turn one man it's a good spot maybe he's mad
maybe he's mad his driver right I was trying to think of a witty quote tweets put on top of
that I just couldn't think of one nope yeah he didn't want didn't want none of that wine and cheese
I'll take a corn dog and a cold beer thank you very much so this engine actually blew up but yeah
I was gonna say this all here gotta take a pilot bearing out of the back of a small block Chevrolet
engine and it's hard to do and a lot of people do it with grease and it makes a gigantic mess
but we had some old bread buns that uh you've used stuff the bread in there and you hammer it
right here this is the input shaft for transmission I'm hammering one that's out of the transmission
and it pulls that input that pilot bearing because you're jamming some white bread in
the back of your engine is that the reason why it blew up no that is not the reason why I don't know
that I don't know that is maybe maybe a little too hard but hey got the pilot bearing out put a
new one in and made four laps on that motor before she said no more uh but yeah that was that was a
cool trick that I learned this year it reminds me of the what no way yeah I like someone told me that
and I was like get any buns in here and your mom's like yeah right here just started hammering away
and here it comes it pulls itself out and it's easy cleanup it's essentially and look if you
don't want to clean it up the dog will come over and clean it up for you it's way way better a hydraulic
press that's it with bread interesting I got a lot of questions you put up a post yesterday
send us over questions what do we got here hmm well first up let's introduce some of the new
back of the house fella we're doing a creative partnership with uh company let's be friend so
let me introduce you pj lungrin in the back lungrin kiron what's your last name baron
kiron baron and please welcome Gabe you got to say your last name
cation cation okay there you go ice ice ice please welcome to the nonsense garage these cats
all right excited the the plan that they have for us in this show to take it to the next level
so we're gonna let kiron and at first off you gotta tell people your accent a little bit you
are from where south africa okay hell of a mustache very strong course yeah yeah at the
moment you can borrow it for a day well mine can't if mine overlaps my top lip like yours my wife's
like I don't got a wife that's right that's it that's a single that's a hell yeah let me go shades
are on deal hell yeah what's our first one here well look the fans want to know when are you
guys going to be in new zealand or australia for a recent bath thirst maybe i'll tell you man since
we've had svg on a couple years ago frequent guest to talk about his xfinity or nascar
adventure our overseas particularly in new zealand australia audience has went up a lot oh yeah and
shout out to apex hunters coming in last year for sure and and dude i love the racing down there
whether it be supercars or high limits was there like i watched that high limit race
like i want to get over there but when i get over there i want to get over there for like a month
yeah and hang out with my buddy george uh shout out george medecke's over there he does a lot of
does a lot of different type of racing he's been involved in motorsports there his father was
so i just want to get over there see the country see everybody and kind of experience
i want to make a trip out of it where experience supercar sprint car the midgets out try to go to
new zealand and see what they call derby cars where they just run into each other like i'm all about
it dude i want to make a big trip pretty hell yeah and and look with our schedules freeing up
not being full-time cup driver me going to xfinity to eat more off weekends 26 might be the year it
could be uh having four kids is not helping my ozzie travel plans though got baby number four
expected here in march so we'll see maybe i can put some brownie points in the account
we'll get off from buddy give her a break for a little bit let's go to australia
she came out man she can't stay off question number two what are skip's plans for the off season
yeah so we talked about obviously moving to hendrick it's been um a big move but with that
freeing up a couple more off weekends going to do some more racing got the modified got moved
into a new shop with the race cars um so got the modified got a tour motor and a 602 motor so we
can swap it whenever we want and got a lot of fun stuff going on with the midget and shout out to
wall stadium new um new uh people taking over wall state and new promotions group there so gonna
looking at that schedule try to get back home and do a lot of racing up there with the cars i have
get that thing ready for new hamps for the modified for race okay hey we can do that um
there's a lot of fun races too as talking to my sponsor frankie capre up in um upstate new york
they have some uh crown vic races and some big these big like almost like the field for fairgrounds
go kart races that might fly up there for and just want to do fun stuff man i want to go i really
just want to go to these fun short track races and knock them off the bucket list like we have been
maybe try to ramp that up now that my uh full-time cup careers is coming to an end and shifting
getting a couple more off weekend so you can do some racing with my daughter and uh try to build
this powder coat business a little more building the building for that so big boy stuff going on
it's been a lot of fun why does the south have more of that type of racing the south has a lot
of dirt racing i think dirt racing is really prevalent down here um but you know here's very
nascar centric in the south uh so a lot of things are you know late model stocks or stuff like that
and i think there is niches where they have stuff like that but i have a direct connection to
you know upstate new york and new jersey uh that that gets me to want to go up there
well next question coming up we had this from a couple people yeah carbon business tell us
about that what we got going r&d testing well our first our first project was ryan's tq midget and
and we did find out that our carbon isn't flammable it is not it with with stood the flames
now it's freezing outside so at the roll in the trailer so it's going to withstand the cold as
well we'll see if it we'll see if it uh passes the test that's been fun man uh it's been taking a
lot of money but i've got a lot of a lot of one really good guy uh adam who has uh taught me a
lot already but we haven't been into been able to be in our space so we're going to build it out
we're slowly chipping away at it but once we get in there a seat is almost ready to rip
we've got we've been working on the cad file for a short track seat we've been making a lot of
different things for the coolest thing you made first right first thing off the bat adam lz
yeah making a drifter big time uh he's been around for a long time making an air box for
for some rotary engine he's doing big boy it's about the size of that table carbon air box so
we're able to do a lot of that cool stuff we're getting set up still
cowboy hats as well whistle and diesel came out of the cowboy hat you sold out of them carbon
cowboy hat yeah he did yeah wow so good friend of ours chelsea sady james hat company we talked to
her about i said hey could if we made a mold of a carbon fiber cowboy hat do you think if she
sell it and she was like uh yeah that's sweet so he literally is making he just pulled it out of
the mold today love that gonna be laying up a carbon fiber cowboy hat i might wear that thing
to date tona oh baby uh so man the capabilities for carbon is really cool i'm excited to start
getting our feet underneath us for that love it next one coming in from some from shon lorenz if
you could erase any driver at any track and in any car who wear what and are you racing
love these types questions thanks shon love that yeah if you could race any driver at any track
in any car um man i think that i would go like daryl waltrip at bristol in like a 1986
Monte Carlo you would have a zero percent chance of winning because he was unbelievable
yeah it was 11 straight i think at bristol now car for car i think you'd be able if you knew you're
gonna get beat you might be able to get into his left rear and try to turn around but you take
daryl waltrip just to learn like how are you so freaking good at bristol man i just have such
like a passion for short track racing so i have like a two-parter like modifies like racing against
ritchie evans at new somerna yeah like ritchie evans new somerna another one you would not you'd
be able to see for three corners yeah and then like when you think about like worldwide like
erranton sent in that mclaren at uh at monaco that type of stuff dude when you look at the
gearboxes and the stuff they were doing so gnarly something i wish that people who have never driven
like a car on a closed course
the feeling of like when you for example i pulled out for my first cup practice i had no
business driving a cup car at the time i was 20 bottom of the barrel team i get out first practice
in the chase at loudon i go behind jeff gordon and just to see the commitment he rips it off the
wall and how fast they're going or you get behind somebody like an erranton sent like
for somebody to witness firsthand car for car somebody that has the gift of putting a car on
the edge like people don't you just don't know like the first time somebody rips by and you're
like oh my god like i gotta go that fast and then you just inherently push yourself to get to that
point but that feeling of like oh that guy is welcome to the big leagues welcome to the big
league my first my first real one experience was that i had just won the arca race at kentucky
i come back there later in the year maybe the next year in a in a bush car i go out for first
practice and it was like in the first lap you're like 80 percent let me get a feel for this thing
okay it's skewing let me figure out that is come off four cob bush in the black monster car passed
me like i was tied to a stump and i was like oh my goodness yeah good luck time to find the right
pedal boys yeah so yeah i wish like that sensation over like oh like that's the bar that's what that
thought that question a little bit of that at wilksboro when i filled in for the modified i was
like don't wreck this thing because i was just practicing it but then like oh no no you got to
use way more gas and use way more racetrack okay and then i figured out like okay there it is
but it takes you like you're like no you got to be a little fashion like yeah i can't just turn
the speed on let me work up to it here i'll get it or or we're gonna be picking this thing out of
the fence well it's the razor blade like you don't want to step over the plateau of grip right but
you got to go find the very edge with that car entire cable of which kind of leads us to our
next question here panelli jones indy 500 mmm yeah those indy 500 guys what's the what's the best
true quote unquote driver driver's car of all time through those f1 cars like senna was running with
the manual gearbox like like look we can sit here and say spring cars and this and that but like
that type of stuff that senna was doing when you look at it and you look at those cars now you're
like what yeah really yeah so i i would say it's maybe something like that it's literally you're
bolted to a rocket ship with an inch pattern like kelly arbrough right wheeling that thing at
darlington yeah right you know i don't know and then also you can make a legitimate case is like
a common people are gonna laugh like cup cars are hard to drive it's all relative right well
they're hard to drive faster than the next cup cup guy that's right right it's who your competition
is but like to get the car around the track dude what senna and them guys were doing i'm telling you
when i look back and watch that i'm like it's incredible i think a lot like yeah if i had some
seat time i could figure it out i couldn't know couldn't figure that out no those guys are dancing
yeah that car absolutely i put up a i put up a the same video on on x as well got some good
questions here i'll rifle through these evert larson good friend r's friend of the show he asked
what do you do with your feet if you flip oh thanks for that ever you don't think about you're not
thinking about that they do put a strap over or in the rfk cars have a nice carbon thing that
kind of captures your your legs so yes that prohibits your leg is from smashing the bottom
of the smashing your feet against the especially the floor amount of pedals now and smashing your
feet against the pedals that's a real thing that's how you break your feet yeah so people will
where you place your gas pedal in relation to your clutching your brake pedal is something that
people are cognizant about for sure uh some guy asked game cock richard would you rather race on a
figure eight track or in a snowstorm how about a figure eight in a snowstorm i don't yeah figure
eights i watch i watch them like riverhead in some places it doesn't like i think it's really cool
but i wouldn't want to do it a snow race dude it would be i'd be all for snow racing a lot of
people asking how pumped i am to be driving rfk forward pretty cool man pretty cool so hopefully
i can do that sweet hat out of the deal yeah got a couple cool hats out of the deal let's see
what else we got oh yeah somebody why do you why do you look like you're about to hand me my
mail yeah you look like a mailman yeah it was the blue jacket in the green it was the the hat the
jacket the mustache everything you had going on did you watch alex honnold climb that building
yeah dude i couldn't turn away kelly was like i'm bored everybody's just watching i was sweating
watching it and if you've never seen free solo go watch that another thing you're like imagine
doing that to pass your time yeah just gonna go climb stuff that guy's such a and then the minute
he gets up on the top he just pulls his phone out takes a selfie but i was watching him like
everybody's just watching to see if this guy falls yeah this is like crazy to think that that's
what we're doing um it was it was the the when they would have the camera behind the glass
up you know 90 stories up and he's just like the wind blowing him and he's just like grabbing
hey and i'm like that is absurd so calm did you see um i've thought about the like what we do
under call like during long races or rain delays saw that the 24 hours they tone of the mechanics
and pick your guys in between stops were building legos one last question here i like and we'll
shift gears here who's the first person you're calling on a cellular phone if you win the day
tone of 500 by your grandpa right uh well kelly is not going to be there at the moment you know
she'll be 37 weeks at that point in time well man you better bring her she can have the baby in the
care and tell her that center be free i keep telling her that but she's like no i'm not delivering
in the infield care center i said are you bringing any the kids at the moment no wow yeah at the moment
no solo dolo so i certainly call her probably definitely cry i'd call grandpa i'll give those
guys a shout out in victory lane if that happens anyways we'll figure out who we're calling when
time comes all right back what are we what's up what's up now so these mechanics are here and
during the break they're they're completely bored so you gotta like we talked about the fuel games
going on with the drivers you're sitting there doing nothing yeah and these guys are so lego had
came out with their that's sick their car roxy's car i think that's their actual car that they're
building talk about a must this guy's got a hell oh my goodness oh my gosh uh but yeah they're building
lego building the whole car that's like let's see if we can get this done you ever have you
built lego's with the kids yet no dude i can sit there and like you know like you get bored look
your phone i could sit there and not think about my phone not think about anything then building
lego's and my kids will go do other stuff and i'll still be there building lego's it's like i'm
into it so might need to coax 600 might need to start doing this yeah you have put see if you can
build a car within or southern 500 would probably be the longest good news is right now i'm not slated
to either of them so i'll just do it at home while i'm watching there you go we're gonna stack
in pennies nascar lego set awesome well then let's land this bird what do you say we got one more
big reaction here one more big reaction what do we got testing his truck oh buddy i saw this wreck
watch this alan amp so oh little nose oh testing the hawn straps out that's one of those
blow your eyeball ahead of your head who is it say again alan amp alan amp
he's okay he's okay thank god he's okay his truck is not he gave thumbs up he's got the old daniel
swore a skull helmet going so that kind of looks like me yesterday in the fort in the
right in the ranger we were ripping around the neighborhood and they have like these little
kind of whoops and the kids want me to want me to like i would roll them you know i'm not going
to launch this thing especially with them that they got a lot belts on every time we hit them
dad faster faster so we get a little little little more little more heads bounce off the ceiling
so we hit one and i got there's like two in a row boom boom and i got some air and it kind of
stuffed it into the face of the second one i looked at my peripheral and jensen head between his
like real quick like wow wow and he looked at me like dad what was that i'm like
whiplash you don't hear a crazy kid story that i i haven't told you yet i forgot about this one
tell me i hear a good one kairn my kid the other day crew and this is the total boy thing never
had this problem comes he comes walking down the stairs real quiet i was with harp for a basketball
practice because down the stairs real quiet and he's got from the toy kitchen up in the playroom
he's got like a pot like a play pot with the top on it and he comes real slow down the stairs
mommy i got you something chili like so he walks up to his mom he says here i made this for you
she takes the top off she goes why is it yellow he goes i peed in there no what what did you what
did you miss he's like what i'm sorry that he realized what like what he shouldn't have done that
and she's like oh my god i never had thought this would be a thing so he just pissed in there and
thought it was funny and there's like oh no no no i went dumped in the toilet she's like did you
miss guys got impeccable aim dude he got all she's like where did you do he's like i just
didn't play rooms peed right on it in the player so it just goes to show that men doesn't matter
how i'll draw this whip it out and piss anywhere oh dude he's not immune to it i mean i got there's
three little ones in our house don't matter where when it's coming i gotta do it they got
they gotta let her rip well on the on the topic of showboating we've got ufc 324 just wrapped up
Arnold Allen versus jane silva what do you guys think of the showboating here that's about to happen
so last couple seconds of the fight okay what oh gosh so i was a oh yeah no he wanted a shake
and that guy was like no get out of here dude so i was a wrestler in high school really um
wrestled for 12 years what he was mad about the guy in the white shorts was if you rewind it the guy
in like a fetal position and kind of just stayed there at the end so that was his way of saying
like f you dude so you just jumped on top of him and jumped off because he's like you're just laying
here you're not doing anything so that was just that was a kind of a thug moment to let you know
one time this kid kept going out of bounds and i stood up and i grabbed him by the ankles and
drug him back to the center of the mat so it was one of those like you're gonna keep doing this dude
i'm gonna let you know what did you get oil checked lost huh that you're getting weird now
he's getting weird um but this uh the memes dude of him riding like a surfboard and just the
internet does its thing dude it's undefeated and remains undefeated well let's wrap it up here
with anything you missed this week things you're looking forward to looking forward to the gamblers
classic buddy yeah and you're looking forward to the clash i hope the weather's definitely
better for me because no matter what it does outside we're gonna be inside a boardwalk hall
in atlantic city and uh from there we're gonna go over to the casinos i'm gonna stay at the ocean
which is the best casino in uh atlantic city it's awesome and we're partying at the wild west
indoors the indoor autos yes and the tacos there's a little taco stand inside the wild west bar
where the after party is um so you're there this weekend come say hey come see us hopefully we'll
have the trophy be on stage shotgun and a beer where do we find you guys good luck good luck to
you i hate i'm gonna miss it but i hope that we uh we get some racing hit the bottom buddy just
just wrap the bottom just wrap the bottom who's your pick for the clash other than yourself
race around a football field this weekend at bowman gray i think this place plays into
obviously chase one last year he's smooth i think about ryan blaney it could be any put himself
behind he had to take a champions provisional he drove from the last to second and if he had
some more time he would have got chase so i think about ryan blaney's on these short tracks he's been
so strong at um martinsville he's strong everywhere with these flat short tracks him or
william byron's might pick this weekend yep um but i'm going with you man you're my buddy i'd love
that got a got a trophy from there before different all different different faces different team but
i think if we just go execute car has some pace we go qualify well good get a good heat race start
position and then just you obviously gotta go qualify uh up there so i'm excited yeah race your
way in right everybody does more or less right then it's like the highest points position so you're
definitely not yeah cool yeah so i'm gonna let it eat man fire it up about it so all right that's
it guys welcome back season six of stag and pennies you know where to find us all of our instagram

About this episode
Corey LaJoie and Ryan Flores kick off motorsports offseason talk with Corey’s big career shift to Hendrick’s junior program and his surprise 2026/2025 momentum at RFK, including the return of the 99 with Carl Edwards’ hype. They dig into NASCAR’s “hell yeah” direction, the new Chase/format clarity after the lawsuit cloud, and why drivers care less about playoff math than fans think. The conversation then pivots to Rolex 24 fog chaos, fuel-saving strategy, and the culture of endurance racing—plus Dakar, F1/Cadillac news, truck racing, and short-track plans.
Corey and Skip are back for the first episode of 2026! The guys catch up on all of the changes that have happened includuing Skip's move to Hendrick in the offseason, Corey landing at RFK for the Clash and Daytona 500 and the return of the Chase! They also recap the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona, talk to Conor Zilisch about the race, discuss the new tracks on the schedule this season and more!
