send a text 047657657. I did hope to have a couple of weeks with the shows put together for you.
We're away in Berlin next week for EFAR and then I assume there'll be an Apple event the week after.
Hopefully we'll be there and then we'll be back mid-September for another episode. But we're
going to have to take a two week break because oh look the roadcaster has let me down here.
It's failed me. Unless some remarkable data recovery occurs on this tiny little SD card in
front of me. My interview with HP about their laptops and my interview with Lizzie Young
from Commercial Radio and Audio about prominence in cars. They're gone. I can't find them.
They're not working. Which is great. Great. Really. Great. And I'm just going to park my
frustration VC. I'm telling you because we all have problems folks. We all have issues. And
I am sending text to the people at road to see whether there's anything they can do to look at
an SD card or whatever. But we all need help sometimes. Even the tech expert needs help.
Tech fails us all at different times. And you just got to grin and bear it.
So I think what's on today's show. I think what we've captured. We've got a bunch of calls
to get through. And we're also going to talk to Jane McNamara from NBN. Because the big
speedboosters coming folks mid September. The speedboosters coming. So you're going to get
faster speeds on your NBN folks pretty much instantly and automatically without doing anything.
And that's going to be exciting for a lot of people. So if you've got five of the
premises or HFC, the old Foxtel cable, speedboosters coming. So we're going to talk to Jane
about what it means. What it is. How does it work? Who's it for? All that kind of stuff.
We'll unpack all of that with Jane McNamara from the NBN Co.
Shortly here on the F10 podcast. It is a travel week. I've been home for how many weeks has it
been? My goodness. Let me let me do the numbers one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
Yes, seven weeks. Wow. That's crazy. Seven weeks. That's the most I've been home all year.
I'm pretty confident. I don't remember being home for that long. It's been great,
but it's time to go. Yeah. Before the family holiday. Let's look at that. One, two, three,
four. Now I was in Melbourne and coming out there. Five, six, seven. Oh no, we were seven
or eight weeks. If you don't include the Grand Prix. I was home a while earlier in the year
too, but on Sunday we head to EFAR, Stig and I head to EFAR. We're AirBeamBeing. We're showing
with Steven Fennick and Val Quinn from Gadget Guy because we're all cost smart. So it's cheaper
to do it that way than it is to stay in hotels. We'll see how that goes down. Could be a
could be a nightmare. What if Steven stalls in the other room? What if I snore in the other
room? Crazy controversy, eh? So we're in EFAR and then hopefully very soon there'll be invitation
sent out for Apple's event. And if they don't invite me, I'll fly home from EFAR. If they do
invite me, hopefully it's the week after EFAR and we'll go straight to Apple and we'll find
out what's happening with the iPhone 17. And then we'll be back again for a week or so.
Before it all starts up again, I've got another trip in October. We're heading to
Ferrari's headquarters, Ferrari's factory. That'll be cool. Anyway, I'm just gonna relax,
breathe, get through this and we'll bring you everything we should on the EFTM podcast.
As always, right here, get in touch. You know how to do it.
The EFTM podcast, thanks to Swan MaxRanger 4K, strongest wireless, maximum security.

of course. You can get in touch all the regular way, especially by EFTM.com. Steve's on the
line. G'day, Steve. G'day, Trev.
Mate, I'm very well. When last we spoke, you were concerned that the weather was affecting your
Wi-Fi speeds. And you're at Buddy Tolco. What's happened since, mate?
So, I went to Buddy, texted them. They pushed me off to the NBN. So, I put in an event or a
complaint about the year. So, you had to go yourself to the NBN?
I did it online. I did it online. That's already remarkable to me. I didn't think the NBN. I thought
the NBN was kind of always at arm's length from the end user. I thought the Tolco, in this case,
Buddy, was responsible for logging faults and doing all that kind of thing, which is
fascinating to me. Anyway, go on. Well, I did start with Buddy and then they said, oh,
you better go to NBN and tell them about the water ingress, possibly at the poll.
So, they wanted a photo and I put that in online. That was the way that I communicated to them.
So, in the meantime, I said to my wife, are you still getting internet promises? Yeah, yeah.
So, I just thought, in a previous article you wrote about installing like new Wi-Fi systems,
you said something about kick connections. So, I did that when it was raining one night.
And I thought, hmm, that's on the Buddy app. You can do it on the Buddy app.
See, I haven't used Buddy. I'm still with Aussie, but I've always said that, as I understood,
Buddy was just an Aussie without the phone support. Now, we should be clear that they
sold Buddy yesterday. It's now owned by someone else, but anyway, that's a whole other thing.
But the technology in the back end is still the same. And so, you can do all these really cool
things in the Aussie app, like check connection, loop connections, all these different stuff. So,
you did the kick and did what did it do? Well, a few days later I said,
have you had any issues, darling? What's going on? And she said, well, funny enough, it's
okay. It's stable. So, in that time, I've also, by waiting for the NBN and Buddy and whatnot,
and there was no real communication back to me. I just went, okay, so it's stable now.
I was thinking scratch command thinking, I'll just check the speeds. So, I checked the speeds
around the house. So, I'm paying for a thousand, but I'm getting like 150 all over the place,
right next to the router, getting 150 or around the 100s. And I thought, and then you said something
to me about, and I've heard it many times about, oh, you know, the Wi-Fi system,
get a, get a, you know, the Orbi, get something new, get, you know, yeah. And I read the articles
all about netcom having aging issues. I don't know how that reflects people online reviews saying
that Wi-Fi systems have this sort of aging. I think it's more, I think it's more that,
you know, if you think about a Wi-Fi system that was built 10 years ago or the technology
within it, it's probably not even aware of gigabit internet speeds. It certainly wasn't built to
have as much traffic on it as we have today. So it's all about, think of it like the road
network, you know, it was built like amazingly, but we just outgrew it really quickly. And that's
what happens with Wi-Fi. So it can really make a massive difference.
And so, yeah, I, after talking to you, and then I have one of my really good friends is a, an IT,
IT guy, absolute guru, and he said, go buy something. And yeah, so I went and bought an
E-Row, the Wi-Fi 7 E-Row. Yeah, it's on non-special. I'm a 519 JB. Went there, bought it last week,
put it in. It hasn't missed a beat. Wi-Fi speeds of 800, 700, 800, and it hasn't,
there's no reliability issues. It just disappeared. So that's what's happened.
Wow. Without Buddy and without the NBN getting back to me, I think I've solved it myself. So
there you go. You know, it's a fascinating thing, it really is, because we, we're going to have this
a lot over the next few months, because people are going to get, you're on, you're on the
thousand already. And you didn't even know you weren't getting the thousand. Like,
you've been paying for something you've not been getting for all these years. But now
we're going to see all these people over the next few months as the internet speeds
increase for a lot of people by default, that are going to, going to be doing speed tests and
going, this is rubbish. I'm not getting what I'm paying for. And actually it's probably their home
Wi-Fi, just like you. Yeah, yeah. Well, I hear the callers come through and, you know,
Steve, Steve and you talk about it all the time. And it's only when it actually happens to you
that you go back, oh, and you reflect and say, oh, what did, what did Trevor and Steve talk
about? Oh, I've got to go back, remember what they said in that podcast. If only out of
attention, you know, take an action. Yes. Oh, look, I'm driving half the time. I'm listening to you guys.
I forget, Lisa and I have ideas when I'm in the car and I forgot about the time I got home,
even when I'm three minutes from home. So, you know, it can be that way. Well,
mate, that's a great outcome for you and for the family. And as of mid-September,
you'll get a hundred mega uploads on the thousand plan. That's right. That's right.
And then, you know, somebody else who's listening might not think about this call
right now, but, you know, when it happens to them, they scratch their head and go,
geez, why am I on my internet so slow or unreliable? They might remember this call.
So Buddy has been sold to Tangerine.
Oh, right. So basically this big deal has been done with Aussie Broadband.
And I feel like what it is, I don't know if people heard my interview with Stephen
Rue, but I asked him about how the big telcos don't seem to want the little guys with
$20 a month and stuff. And he didn't really answer it, but he basically said,
you know, it's about market segmentation. I feel like Aussie is determining that
they want to be the, you know, the $100 a month or more plans. And anyone less or different
buddies, customers, they've moved them on to Tangerine. So More and Tangerine,
which is one company, they're getting this, they're sending their kind of premium connections
to Aussie and, and they're taking Buddy over. So it's like a bit of a customer swap deal thing
going on, very stock market based, you know, incentives and transfers and all this kind of
rubbish. But essentially Buddy is no longer an Aussie Broadband brand. So there you go.
Right. So keep your eye on it, mate, because if, if, you know, the service degrades in
any way, you definitely want to keep that in mind as a potential reason. But I doubt you'll
see any, any reason because it's likely that their back end is, is now being supported by Aussie.
And so you're actually going to end up with the same thing. That's just a different company
servicing the, the, the income. So previous, the previous call we had, you asked me, oh, who
were you with and whatnot. And I couldn't remember. And then you just said it then more. I was
actually with more, the other guys that I switched from, and I just couldn't remember
because I switched so often. One of the callers that you had previously said more was fantastic
for CBA customers. There was some special line at the moment. That's what I did.
And then a few months later, Buddy, you talked about Buddy, so I switched again. So, yeah,
look, just, yeah, deal with insurance too. I do try and deal with insurance.
Mate, good on you. I respect it. I wish I did it more just to save money. But anyway,
good outcome. Mate, I'm glad you got the new system. I'm glad you're getting fast speeds, Buddy.
Thank you. Thanks for, thanks for the time. Yes. Thank you for the time.
An absolute pleasure, mate. Any time. Good on you. Thanks for the chat. Cheers.
Good on you. Thank you. No worries at all. Isn't that interesting? See,
there's a man who is clearly a long-term listener, listens to everything we've ever said.
But it took kind of problems at his end for him to even look at what was happening in his
home and realizing that essentially he's been on the 1000 meg plan for however long
and has never seen those speeds. That's, that's remarkable to me. So that's, that's really
interesting. So lots to learn, folks, especially if you're on the faster NBN plans. You might want
to do some speed tests and check exactly how your network is going. This is the EFTM podcast.
Sure is. And a big thank you to the good people at Swan Security.

get you on the show and we'll try and unpack it all for you. Now there's some
exciting things coming for a bunch of people, millions of people in fact,
on the Australian internet over the month ahead. The NBN is getting faster and you probably don't
have to do anything about it. It's just going to happen. It's just going to get faster for you.
There's some really cool things happening and hopefully it's not going to hit your hip pocket
as well. So to unpack what is this NBN speed boost you might be hearing about,
Jane McNamara from the NBN is on the line. G'day Jane. Good to be with you Trevor.
Jane, what is it that we're talking about? So this NBN speed boost has been coming for
a little while now but it's activating itself essentially next month, isn't it? In September,
mid-September? Absolutely. It's super exciting and for our listeners we are accelerating the speeds
on our highest three residential wholesale speed tiers for customers with a fiber to the
premises that's FTP and the hybrid fiber coaxial or HFC connections and those who upgrade
to full fiber. It's like an incentive to do the upgrade, isn't it? If people are listening and
they've got fiber to the node or whatever or fiber to the curb and they haven't done a test
of their address, you should do that pretty immediately because you might be eligible
for fiber to the premises and that upgrade comes at no cost to you. You simply just need to
commit to being on one of these faster plans, don't you? Absolutely and you're quite right.
Just last week we had more than 11,800 orders for a fiber upgrade. Australians are really getting
behind full fiber. We know it's the fastest, the most reliable, the most resilient technology
that can deliver these super fast speeds not just for today and tomorrow but decades to come and
with the data demand increasing year on year we've got more than 25 connected devices in the home
that's only going to grow and we're spending more than six and a half hours online every day.
Fiber is the absolutely best technology to deliver not just a good experience but a great
experience and to your point by getting the fiber upgrade and making sure you're on a 100 megabit
per second plan or higher we are going to accelerate these speeds so you could get five
times faster so the 100 megabit per second plan is going to accelerate to 500 megabits per second
at no cost. And will that acceleration kind of just something I'll wake up to or do you think
I'll need to turn off my NBN box or my modem and reconnect? Like how will it happen?
So it's kind of magic, it's a little bit of magic. It all happens you know behind the
scenes you won't even know and the phone and internet providers that are part of Accelerate
great have been really communicating with their customers over the past several weeks and will
continue to do so and really you won't know it will take a couple of days so we actually go live
from the 14th of September and then over the you know following days and weeks the phone and
internet providers are going to switch on you know that magic button on their side
so that their customers will get those accelerated speeds and you won't really know
and I think that's okay I think you know for the people that will notice are the homes and
businesses that are probably maxing out their plan that you know got all these connected devices
wanting to use them concurrently at the same time they're the people will notice a difference
but if you don't that's okay because really this is about you know preparing homes and
businesses for what's next and you know growing your plan and having those speeds there to deliver
you know over the over the next few years as our demand grows and grows and grows because
it's a funny one and I've had plenty of decent arguments with people over the NBN over many years
and some of them still want to argue about the process and the the style that we used and
the multi technology mix but in the end what we have today is perfectly suitable for today
what we need though is to be looking to the future and that's essentially what this does
absolutely and what's the great thing about the NBN is that there's a range of plans to meet
you know every home and businesses needs you know how much money we have to spend on our broad
band connection it really is all about choice and making sure that there is a plan and a speed
tier to meet everyone's needs and you're quite right it's it's about unleashing the power of the
network the NBN network can deliver these speeds and and we want to make sure that those early adopters
or those homes and businesses that are out there that actually want to get these speeds now can
do so and equally at a point in time of the future that others might not need it now but
want it in the future it's ready to go as soon as they choose am I right in thinking that
if you if you're good with the hundred speed you'll get bumped up to 500 if you're on the
I think the 500 you get bumped to 750 it's possible some people could go down a plan and
save money and still get faster speeds here that's right yes and and we're certainly
seeing I guess you know some movement in that as well and I think the phone and internet providers
are expecting that too and so I think you know probably a good reminder to if you haven't heard
from your phone and internet provider do reach out to them to make sure you're eligible but also
how you can become eligible and I think you know the other thing that we've really noticed
without you know doing some independent research and certainly through I guess reviewing lots of
the articles and online independent comparison sites the competition is significant we've never
seen competition like this in terms of you know price and offerings from the phone and internet
providers and if you're not sure also what plan you're on what technology you're on you know jump
on the nbn website nn.com.au and use the address checker have a chat to your phone and internet
provider and really make the most of the competition I mean some of them are actually making their 100
plan price match the 50 because they're so keen to get you to the 100 and make sure that you can
access you know this great acceleration that's coming in September and obviously there's a
bunch of people who are quite happy under 50 under 100 you know my mum is on I think 50
I don't think she realized she's got that I'm paying for her internet I think she just thinks
it happens but um you know there's no demand in her home for more it's just her and a partner
they're streaming all day but they're just streaming on one tv and they're on the on their
phones on facebook it's not there's not an over overly big demand in that place which also goes to
why the fiber upgrade is perfectly placed because she doesn't need it she's not going to ask for
it she doesn't want for it you don't need to spend the money on on delivering it to her
whereas people that want it and they're saying wait wait I can get a thousand wait I can get
two thousand megabits per second I've just got to have fiber those are the people that you want
picking up the phone and they're probably the people that have already done it too haven't they
very true and and you're spot on you know my parents are the same and you know I've even
you know my sister's the same really small need there's only a couple of individuals in the
home they've got probably probably do have the 25 connected devices but there's really only one
or two of them on the devices all at the same time and that 50 plan you know is a sweet spot
and for some people that won't change and that's perfectly fine but we do know there's a you know
a growing amount of the population across the country in homes and businesses that do want more
that will require more and you know we want to make sure that we can provide that now and
what a great thing that the ambient network can do that what's the I'm always a I guess a glass half
full or empty depends how you look at it but in terms of the haves and have nots here obviously
there's a bunch of people who are not on the hfc and are not eligible for ft2p upgrades and they're
not currently an ft2p what what sort of number are we talking about there and and what's the
roadmap for that that upgrade plan for those people yeah absolutely so currently we've got about
well it's more than 9.8 million Australian homes and businesses that can access these accelerated
speeds and that will that will grow to more than 10 million by the end of the year and so really
when we also factor in the investment announced in January to provide upgrade paths to the
remaining 622,000 homes and businesses on that fiber to the node copper technology you know we're
really talking more than 11 million homes and businesses over the coming years that will be
able to access the accelerated speeds have that full fiber connection and really you know enjoy
the benefits of superfast broadband and it's not just fixed line let's just quickly do a little
bit of future gazing because in recent weeks you the nbn made an announcement of partnering with
amazon's project kuiper for remote and regional Australia this is something like 300,000 homes
in the satellite footprint that are going to get some epic speeds in the in the not not too
distant future really exciting and you're quite right you know outside of the fiber footprint
you know we do use our fixed wireless technology and our skymaster satellite technology which will
transition to that amazon kuiper low earth orbit technology in the not too distant future and
you know fixed wireless we've just finished the upgrades at the end of last year and
you know they're delivering up to 400 megabits per second you know in those you know fringe
communities peri-urban regional communities so really fast you know equal equal to metro
that's for sure and with the low earth orbit you know technology we've been advised by amazon kuiper
that you know we could be looking at the second half of next year in terms of that technology
coming online and what's really important for us now is you know consulting with the regional
stakeholders the phone and internet providers will have you know really exciting news about that
in the coming months but that will be you know a significant opportunity for those 300,000 homes
and businesses in regional rural and remote australia to transition from you know skymaster
satellite technology and uh yeah the speeds there will you know certainly be uh accelerating as
well just a question without notice that just hit hit my head though around fixed wireless and
satellite probably more likely satellite but let's say you're in a fiber to the node home
and you're literally the end of the list like you you're years away from being eligible for fiber
is the is the kuiper low earth orbit something that you could consider or is that
contractually restricted to 300,000 premises that are currently serviced or in the satellite area
it is reserved for those 300,000 uh yeah regional rural and remote homes and businesses uh and you
know we we do have to um we we absolutely have to prioritize them for the low earth orbit um technology
they'll just have to look at amazon's commercial offering which will come around probably very
similar time that will happen so let's let's refocus on the acceleration which is happening so
september 14 is essentially your switch on and then it's progressive from there but basically
if if you don't if you want to get it then you should probably ring around because
i feel like some of the telcos are being more aggressive than others and
some of them are just dragging their feet not not being too concerned about it so that's
one reason to switch uh is there any other change required is it is it right to say that
if you wanted to go to the 2000 the two gigabit connection there'll be new hardware required
for you it is a really good point and and i think it's a great reminder that you know
choosing the right plan and that speed tier is just one piece of the puzzle the in-home
setup is critical you know making sure that your equipment is placed correctly in the home
is really important and we're talking about making sure that wi-fi router or you know the box
with the flashing lights is you know it's really the hero of the home we have to make sure it's
front and center we know so many people hide them away in cupboards and you know on the floor
and even place in near devices that cause interference with the wi-fi signal yeah so
that home setup is pretty cool but most importantly the age of your wi-fi router you know we know
actually that three in five Australians haven't actually updated the internet setup in the home
and their equipment and if you're thinking gosh i don't know how old my wi-fi router is
it probably probably is five years old that is the answer yes and uh you know as you know
Trevor lucky if you don't have an updated wi-fi router similar to you know updating your mobile
phone it will not deliver these accelerated speeds so it's really important that when you're talking
to your phone and internet provider do check whether they're providing a new wi-fi router
from the research that we you know have seen they will to make sure that you can access
these accelerated speeds or independently you know do pop into a technology retailer have a
conversation but if it's been more than five years or you can't remember i would suggest that you do
need to update your wi-fi router even if you're not getting accelerated speeds even if you're
going to stick on your current plan but even more so if you want these accelerated speeds
you will need the right wi-fi router to deliver you know these this 500 megabits per second and above
i don't know if i shared it with you and i think i've shared it on this show but i gave
joel gibson the money guy at the today's show a new netgear all be the other week and uh
he went home and he i think he's on the thousand meg plan and he showed me a picture of
his internet speeds it was like 160 or something before then he just literally changed the wi-fi
network and he's getting 400 plus it literally can be the difference between the speeds that you're
paying for or the speeds that your wi-fi network can deliver and like if you're if you're paying for
a speed you should be getting that throughout your whole home and the nbn is not responsible for
what happens once it gets to your house so uh yeah take the time to to invest in that underlying
network it'll be the game changer for you especially if you're bumping up those speeds
personally i'm on hfc at both my office and home um so i can't get the two gigabit because i
would you know me but i do get faster uploads and it's it's a lot of people like what do i need it
all for i upload gigabits of video every week when we when we finish our podcasts and the like
that'll take half the time now because i'm going from 40 meg uploads to 100 it's a game changer
for businesses as well as just you know home streaming absolutely and you're quite right we
don't uh talk often enough about the upload speeds as well and how important you know they
are too and with accelerate great you are getting boost on the upload speeds as well
so it is really important and for small businesses as well small and medium businesses
that 2000 megabit per second plan which is a new plan which also kicks off from september
will will really benefit that cohort of the market that you know might need um that are
using cloud devices or you know have multi sites or you know lots of the devices and
applications um that small medium businesses need those extra speeds are to your point such a
game changer as well great stuff jane it's exciting time for nerds across the country and of course
for everyday mums and dads who just want better internet or faster internet uh it's coming and
it's coming uh very very soon thanks for your time and for explaining it all to us thanks very
much trella tech cars lifestyle this is the eftm podcast with trev along
great to have your company here on the eftm podcast taking your calls at any time
you've got a problem get in touch i'd love to try and help uh jill's on the line are they jill
hi how are you going really good what's happening well i just want to know about um
facebook i've never been on facebook and i'm going to hawaii soon and i thought i'd join it so i can
send my kids photos and whatever so i joined it and it worked for two days and now they've
totally blocked me out and they want a selfie video and i'm not prepared to do that i don't
even know what it is yeah so i look i haven't seen that happen um but my guess is that
they're being they're monitoring kind of new accounts and they're checking new accounts these
days uh often they'll be fraudulent you know so they're scammers um yep and so you've got a
profile picture up on the on on your facebook page do you like a picture of yourself no i haven't
got anything um i didn't put a picture thing there um what else didn't i do i didn't i didn't
put any of this stuff i put non-gender everything um because i so i think that i know what it is then
i know what it is they think you're a scammer so right they've detected that your account
is operating not like a a normal user so a normal user with respect would put a photo
themselves up they'd you know tell you about themselves they'd add a bunch of friends and
all this kind of stuff whereas you're doing the absolute minimum which is totally fine and
within your realm but uh their their systems are going away and hang on a minute what's going on here
and they're they're essentially you know checking whether you're real or not so it's really up to
you as to whether or not you want to push that ahead i would i would rewind a little and say
everything you've just said to me about hawaii and travel and keeping in touch with people
i wouldn't use facebook for that at all what would you use i'd use whatsapp but that's owned
by the same people that own facebook yes but there's no there's no verification or anything
required whatsapp is all basically it's like a replacement for your or an adjacent to your
sms messaging app so it only uses your mobile phone number so when you install the app it says
you know what's your mobile phone number it verifies that by sending a text message to the
number because that's its verification process and then you'll give it a name and you know you
can write whatever you want um and you don't have to put a photo up and then you just everyone in
your contacts who has whatsapp you can get in touch with and you can create a group so like whatsapp is
the number one app i use like i would argue i could probably look at screen time or something
to find out but i use it all the time i use it for messaging mates i use it for messaging my
mum i use it we have family group chats my wife's family my family just me and the kids
my wife and i we have a rule this is ridiculous but we have a rule um we don't message the kids
individually so i don't message my my 13 year old harry i message harry through a group called
hmd which is harry mum and dad so that a man can see all the messages i have with him so we're
all but we're across everything that's going on it's unbelievably awesome app it's all encrypted
so even though it's owned by facebook they can't see your messages they can't see your photos
it's encrypted so there's nothing that they can see so it's very safe in that sense um so personally
i would set up a family group you know so a group with all your family in it i'd set up another one
with you know maybe just your kids or whatever you want and that that's where you share those
videos and photos we had one when we were in in the us earlier in the year um called holiday
photos and it was just kind of my mum and my wife's parents so that they could feel like
they were a bit connected to the holiday we didn't post hundreds of photos there but we
kind of just every day you know let them know what we were doing and where we'd been so they felt
like they were a bit engaged with it because we weren't posting those kind of things on facebook
or anywhere else yeah i'll see i've never had facebook i've um and you know what the funny
thing is i've never had facebook but i've just recently um changed my phone over to another
samsung and on my old phone i could get facebook like not facebook as in such but i could get onto
it was um what was it called um where i live uh it was called a group chat a group a facebook
yeah and you could i could hop on there and and people had put stuff up there and you know people
have died and all that type of stuff and whatnot and things that are going on in the community
i could see that and i could also get onto um marketplace and have a look i couldn't buy anything
because i couldn't log into it yeah but since i've got this new phone um i can't do any of that
it's blocked me out all together did you used to access those things through the facebook
app or just through the browser no through the browser yeah so you would need to uninstall
the app i reckon so whatever you're trying to do on facebook now the browser will automatically
take you to the app so i would i would uninstall the app i would open up the browser and go to
facebook.com and make sure you're not logged in so you know log out and then most of the
things you're talking about should still be possible because that was the only things
that i used to get onto was marketplace and and like the community notice board i i mean
and i was never i'm not friends with anybody i don't like people um you're a woman after my
own heart i i understand yeah i'd rather my animals any day to people but anyhow um honestly
i think whatsapp will be a game changer for you because you can just add the three or four people
you want to add put them in a group or don't you know have them separately and individually and
just send them what you want when you want you can do so a couple of things about whatsapp
that i that i really love that i think a lot of people don't know so obviously videos and
photos are great make sure when you do send videos and photos you try and find the little hd
button so it sends them in a good really good quality um but the other thing is if you wanted to
you can actually share your location so if like it's a really cool thing just to share your
location not just when you're meeting up with people but also just to show them where you are
um yeah there's a bunch of things you can do with with whatsapp outside of just messaging but
at its core i think it's perfect for what you're talking about and it keeps you off
face because if you haven't had an account for now well i wouldn't get one for this reason
i haven't i've never had an account it's um yeah what do they actually do so if they take a
selfie video of you what do they actually do with that the funny thing is that it's meant to
it's meant to be verified against your profile photo but if you haven't updated a profile
photo i bet you any money even taking a selfie video won't get you anywhere i don't think it
will allow you to still get into your account because they won't be able to verify you
against your account because you never put a photo on your account
yeah exactly so but anyhow all good all right good luck thank you very kindly for that hook your
family up with whatsapp and uh and have a great trip okay thank you very much and thank you very
much for responding to me i thought i was yeah i was sort of um bit surprised oh no an absolute
pleasure it's what i do yeah i know but i i know you're busy because i know you go on overseas
see i'll listen to you on the radio for morning and with um luke boner and stuff and um yeah oh no
jill always happy to help any tech questions you come to me okay thanks very much have a nice day
enjoy the trip thanks very much cheers um imagine not having facebook for a start that i mean it's
it's a weird thing to think about but you know there's people that just have never had facebook
i kind of wish my mum didn't have facebook because i feel like it's the place where she's
exposed to the most wrong the most fake the most bad of this world you know and i like i um i do
a radio spot in hobart with um seven h o and one of the hosts there uh sarah morrison she just
sent me oh it's not on that phone let me have a look she i was just literally on the radio with
them minutes before i started recording and while i was talking to her we were talking about
projectors and um she said i don't need this i'm going to use the wine glass trick and i went
what's that she goes oh you wrap a wine glass in alphol you put it next to the phone and it
projects on the wall i said i don't think so so she sent me an instagram reel and it's a lady
wraps the bottom of a wine glass in alphol lies the wine glass on a table and then points her
phone at that and then it shows this the wall is this big projection it's it's just not real
it's fake it's a it's a like i don't know if this person's trying to be funny but it's called hacks
is the account so they're trying to show life hacks that are not real it's like selling
buddy crappy team who products people fall for this stuff sometimes i wish it just didn't exist
my biggest bug bear right now are these absolutely frustrating videos i primarily see on tiktok
um and they come on and they go well apple's announced the iphone 17 and here's the four models
and this is the one you're going to want and they go it's got they've all got the same chip and i'm
like they haven't announced it like it's it's basically clickbait it's not real and no one's
going to go back in three weeks and go this was wrong this was wrong this was wrong don't
believe these people it's not real i don't genuinely think that the iphone 17 and 17 pro
are going to have the same processor but that's what some dude called tyler mahoney or whatever
his friggin name is on tiktok saying it's not really puts up a graph a chart of the devices
we don't know it to be real now see when i do iphone 17 stuff i make it very clear these are
dumbing units if this is what they look like if this is what's announced if it's all if
but people put this stuff up as if it's real and the one that happened not long ago was
the apple invite they said well here's the invite we know the date and and here's what it's called
and it was it was a viral joke to get people to buy a wallpaper app it wasn't real honestly it's
very hard to deal with the the fake content online i struggle with it daily be part of the
show thanks to Vodafone you can text 0477657657 great to have you company and i look forward to
hearing from you if you've got a tech question or you just bought something new share your excitement
i'd love to hear about what you bought or what you're on the lookout for this black
friday it's going to be huge i'm told huge in retail massive they're expecting the biggest
black friday ever is what i'm hearing on the street so i'd love to know what you're
thinking about shopping for this black friday uh mix on the line go make
hey try there you go yeah good buddy what can i do for you um a couple issues i've got a
issue with the mobile so it connects to the wi-fi calling when it comes in yep we're often
connected to the wi-fi um we don't actually receive mobile calls okay you get no calls
get snow and then we'll get a text message saying such and such right you know i'm just
caught from somebody so and then you're laying out my phone are you on android or iphone iphone
right um has it ever worked uh yeah it used to work and then my wife and i both have the
same like iphone 13s uh praise um run the same software you know and yeah so i'm not sure what's
going on what's going on i'm just looking um because when we've had some calls about um
i'm dangerously going to do this on the phone that we're talking on just in just in case it hangs
up on this um i've had some calls in the past about wi-fi calling and i discovered on android
anyway you can uh you can tell it to prioritize wi-fi calling over the cellular network so
basically what what what i've been worried about in the past is do you have zero bars of coverage
or just like one at home and the wi-fi calling on top of that no i'm like in town i got 5g like fast
so why have you got wi-fi calling on um oh it's one of my work actually it's probably left on
from one of my work right so when you're in an area there yeah right so you're saying when
you're at home on full bars of coverage and yeah you can see that your phone is connected to wi-fi
calling because there's an indicator of that is there yeah um the wi-fi is on and that's connected
to the wi-fi calling as such hmm so there's actually no guarantee that it's actually using wi-fi
calling at that point have you obviously turned off wi-fi calling to establish where the calls
do come through yeah they do come through yeah all right wow man which which network are you with
which telco um for mobile uh i'm west boost for the mobile and i'm with made for internet the
internet doesn't matter even though yep go for your life changes you need to but uh it's only the
mobile network that matters because it's them that essentially has to route the calls i wonder
whether how long has it been happening for um it's been happening for a while and then i was at
home then i realized what was happening yeah because the wife you know she'd do the same
way i haven't got calls from her and then yeah she was getting that so she was getting antsy
because you haven't returned to calls right yeah so do you need me to just tell you
what you need to hear so that you can tell her that um so what i what i would do because
i don't know it's a weird thing but maybe something's happened at boost uh through the
telstra cell right so i would i would reset your network settings so you go okay in the
iphone and this doesn't wipe the phone to be clear no yeah in the iphone settings general
and reset and there is a button to erase everything don't do that hit the reset button and then
it comes up with a list you want to reset network settings and what that'll do is it will
actually certainly it'll lose all your wi-fi connections but it'll also kind of disconnect
you from the mobile network then turn the phone off full power down leave it for a minute turn
it back on and then when it turns back on it kind of automatically picks up all the carrier
settings you know and then connect your wi-fi network and let's just see whether essentially
you know just giving it a shot in the arm is enough to uh to get it back on it's a kind
of a turned off turn it back on again but it's a it's a one step further if you know what i mean
yeah no i understand so give that a try and let me know what was the other drama mate
um well actually we're getting uh nvn whatever you know five or two the premises or whatever
you're doing nice yeah um so with the routers or modems do you just wait till they connect it
and then go with whatever then so what what what have you got now fiber to the node or fiber to the curb
to the node so they they should by default give you a new modem i would assume um okay if they
try and sell you one i wouldn't take it yeah i would go to the shops and buy myself a wi-fi
network because with fiber to the premises you don't need a modem you only need a router
and i think yep i know it's confusing but a lot of people think of them as the same thing but they
do two different things a modem think of it like the old days the modem does the dialing up you know
in the old weird weird noises so the modem it tells that device how to connect to the internet
whereas with fiber to the node the internet is just there it's a plug in the wall all you need
to do is route it through the home and that's what a route that's what a wi-fi router is so um i would
i would at any point because oh look unless you've got a small home and you think the whatever
they supply is going to be big enough um yeah i would probably look to budget for a new wi-fi mesh
system um yeah uh in a net gear or be amazon aero d-link there's a bunch out there um yeah
depending on how big your home is how many people are there and any devices that really
depends how much you need to spend but you'll spend between 400 and 4000 depending on what you
want to do but guarantee you there's no point having fiber to the premises and a fast internet
if you're not going to do something good with your wi-fi mate what what speed plane are you
signing up to um i haven't really looked to see i'm currently on 140 with mate so that will
automatically next month become 50 500 sorry yeah 550 okay that that is automatically
going to be five times faster and therefore that will need better wi-fi if you want to get that
500 so mates you're right see what they give us see what they deliver if they deliver something
that costs money i would yeah i would err on the side of yeah it's probably better off just
putting that money towards um towards a wi-fi network okay yeah and just the last one
what now you said that yeah with the wi-fi the wife see um remote works from home and she only has
connection obviously wi-fi connection because then they eat the connection to a computer
and that drops in and out but that sometimes then could be to do with the kids or something
if they come this is when they come around to play gaming every every minute you talk you
become a more of a candidate for a better wi-fi network and mate if the wife seems to you know
bulk it you know spending you know 400 to 700 whatever dollars you're gonna have to spend
you know if you can wait there might be some good deals over the over the weeks ahead
honestly it will be a game changer for her she will have fast reliable internet at her desk
all the time it's going to be a game changer mate better wi-fi back to buy that faster speed
it's going to be amazing she's she's she's going to be blown away by what happens
yeah no she will be because she does a lot of zoom calls and zoom calls or whatever
get get get on to it mate you'll be you'll be husband of the year all right
right thanks Trev oh buddy good luck and uh the last one iPhone wins that out next soon
what's that mate probably upgrade the wins in your iphone's out because we're gonna upgrade
the clad in it's all i really hope that in the next few days i get an invitation from apple
otherwise i'm stranded in berlin my guess is september the 10th will be the announcement
and my guess is that it'll be available on the 19th yep sounds good all right thanks
to our trust buddy anytime you know that cheers buddy thanks for getting in touch
yeah and when you and steeve come out the kina bar and we've got every charges out here as well
ah beautiful all right mate road trip so yeah see my tears running in kina bar and oh that's
not a bad place to go um i've driven through i'm sure i've driven through i need to look at a map now
kina bar brand um
do do do zoom out oh wow satellite mode is quite off-putting um
well i'm a darker in i kuna bar and i'm looking at the map very weirdly gilgandra so i probably came
from ganadar down through kuna bar and into gilgandra into dubbo
or hang on a minute hang on a minute here's something i need to search for
i'll just quickly search for it before i say it i'm gonna i'm gonna say no it was kuna
ambel when we used to go to bob fortin's farm at farm at quombone we would go through kuna ambel
not quite kuna baribran he'd come up through dubbo gilgandra and then kuna ambel and then out to
quombone god that was a drive that is legit hard of the hard of the country out there like if
you look at the size of kuna ambel let's look at kuna baribran oh man google maps um
i mean it's just a great country town look at that far out and the first thing highlighted in my google
maps is kuna baribran bakery i think google knows me very well let's look at the photos of kuna baribran
bakery beautiful shop there's some oh look at those oh there's easter eggs in on the google
photos i'm trying to get a look at their lambington's that's what's critical to me
well there's two blokes on the google maps
on the google maps photos of kuna baribran bakery which by the way were taken by brendan wood this
photo who's a mate of mine brendan wood took the photo of kuna baribran bakery when there's a storm
trooper in the in the window and two blokes in hive is eating meat pies out the front it doesn't
come much more classic i'm now getting a look at the meat pie i'm starting to get very hungry
i'm probably going to go and get meat pies for lunch yep that's what i'm doing because i don't
have any lunch in the front their pies look very good their pies look very good still not seeing
any lambingtons that concerns me but i'll let them off because their pies look epic
man we've got to go to kuna baribran
kuna baribran the bakery fennec and i really should do that shouldn't we
ride trip with the evs middle of nowhere there's no lambingtons though what's going on in kuna baribran
all right where are the ev charges where are the ev charges in uh in kuna baribran stick with me
here this is two blokes storing electric cars without the other bloke um see i'm using an app
called plug share kuna baribran i'll search for click on it zoom in and what do we got we've
got a nrma um it's a 50 kilowatt charger look it's not super fast but we'll stay the night and
where is it it's at the visitor's centre is there a it's on the new yule highway there we go we
could drive through narandra straight up the new yule highway um yeah i mean it's it's a long way
but i'm i'm guessing we drive through dubbo
oh would that be the long way better off going up to kind of muzzle book and cutting across no
mudgy you'd go up through mudgy feels like a riskier drive on the ev though if we go over the mountains
do a lot more charging on the way down charge a dubbo charge a gilgandra charge a kuna baribran
feel comfortable that we've we've nailed it it looks like a beautiful national park up there
there could be some good drone shots and uh maybe we could round it out going through gunadah
back down through scone i haven't driven that road for a long time since my mum was up there
yeah all right that's enough dreaming but uh michael pies are on you bro pies are on you
