This is professional radio. That has front wheel drive.
Have you got anyone you want to thank?
Just myself. And now we'll do the after
hours. Gentlemen, what would you go
for? Thank you.
Send there. OK.
And because there's not a supercar, there is.
It's not. Ordinary perfection comes in the
form of two letters A&U. Long live my Ltd.
We're going to come talk. It's Tuesday night here on 98.9
NW Affair. It's me, Mary J in studio with
Mr Tyrone Cabral, Mr Amandeep Singh and online with Mr. David
Prince and Mr Scotty to Johnson. How are you, gentlemen?
Doing really well. Thank you.
Thank you very much. What's been happening guys?
It's been a big week in terms of everything.
Obviously the news with the submarines and stuff and.
And. And more Russia issues with
stuff, but that's all we had to talk about.
We talk about cars, because this Car Talk where, where, where we discussed. All the good things that make
our lives go round. Was that all provided by Xbox
controllers? Yeah, what was the Logitech it?
Wasn't logic Logitech actually. Have the control at home
actually do have. Discontinued.
I wonder why? Actually, you used to use that
for yeah, computer game. There you go.
Well, say it's. That's the appropriate use for
it, Tara. Yeah, that's what that would
design for. Yes, not wanting to be running
ships and submarines, you know, thousands of feet underneath, but. Probably.
It's not the most out there solution.
Do video game controls have come in handy to use a lot of, I guess we'll call it non standard systems that can be quite handy in terms of I guess general like versus steering wheel or York sort of item. But I think everything else
going on around the submarine probably wouldn't have been as cheap as the controller really was, but Rest in Peace was unfortunate. Did they use a similar thing in
medicine? Alan?
I've seen they've got some remote control type things, haven't they with they? Do have, yeah, like I guess
single hand kind of York sticks for I think certain surgeries.
Usually when you're dealing with the eyes and stuff.
Cool little OK. Loves into the eyes, you know,
accurately. We.
No. I mean when they, when they do
with cataract operations, they they they cut your cornea out, right? Yeah, they they.
Are they? Are you more afraid of the
person you can scalp on? You know, on your cornea and you
know, using the vacuum to suck it up so the flap stays open?
Yeah, I thought maybe it was mine.
I think it's amazing. You know what kind of do these
days so. Not that I want it done to me
personally. I think I'll pass if I can pass.
But you know, there's some, there's some cool, interesting technology out there. Some of which makes it to cars.
Sometimes, sometimes, occasionally, occasionally.
Well, let's get on with some car updates.
Let's talk with you, Mr. David Prince.
What's happening in your car? World updates on your side of
the world, my friend. Updates on my side of the road,
my side of the road, my side of the world.
I dropped the EP3 back on the weekend sorry last night and I left the city where the P3 lives.
So I EP3D over to one of the far out eastern suburbs and city back and I can tell you after driving an EP3 Honda Civic Type RA1983 Honda City, let's just say the AP. 3 Exposes some of
the floors of a 1983 Honda City. Sadly, but but hey, it started
and and and ran Sweet is enough. But yeah, it's certainly not a
tight part. Interestingly the The City Turbo
which we came up in the group chat during the week would be an interesting to find a decent one of those Running properly now is pretty Hard Out Here. City Turbine, David.
I have, yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. I've driven a couple.
Are they pretty boosty? Like, are they like nothing?
Then woosh. Yeah, there's quite a bit of
that going on. You've got this brilliant little
turbo gauge which looks like a bit of a volcano going off.
As you accelerate, the bars just go up and sort of out of the top in a in a fan shape. So that's pretty cool, but yeah.
I like that. That's cool.
Yeah, yeah, it's very cool. And the single single, single
needle like the early prelims had the single speed on tackle on the same axis. But yeah, so that was good.
I had a we had a club run on the weekend down to.
Hastings and it was wet and slippery and freezing cold at the the outside temperature in the N one said seven degrees at Flinders and there were we drove through the golf course down there and there were people playing golf in shorts which I just thought was says a lot about you golfing people icon.
Then but buddy, I'm not gonna do.
What's your phrasing? What?
You're freezing. You can't feel anything, Sir.
Yeah, yeah, I mean. I think there's.
There's always that one that one guy in the group that slavery ones like rugged up and there's one guy in shorts and AT shirt like every time they every. Time.
Absolutely. Absolutely.
Are you not cold? I'm cold looking at you like.
So how does this happen? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And that's exactly right. So that was good to good to give
the M1A run and it. Um, it started along like little
train or little boat as it was through all the water.
But nothing else. But actually many are just sent
you a screenshot of just seen on Instagram.
One of the import dealerships in Sydney has just listed there in one Rs manual. For sale Who's gonna now?
So that's the first manual that I know of in the country and it's bright yellow with all the Mugen hot up bits on it and and stuff like that. And it's pretty exports more
than double what I paid for mine.
So I'm sort of thinking cool even at that price I reckon it represents Ripper value, but you know I think it'll be staying in Sydney for the time being. Said.
It looks great. It looks great, doesn't it?
It's really loaded. Up with gear you need.
But when we were in Japan, you you're gonna get all yourself one of these, alright. And.
We'll need to check them absolutely for sure on that.
I don't think that Catherine be happy you were like, oh, I've got a shipment coming and it's, it's it's quite small.
Yeah, but your present back look at this how it keeps this.
Now very, very good. I think that's my updates for
this week. That's your place for this.
We are also joined by the one and only Rob, How are you mate?
Good. Thank you.
How are we all? Good.
You're saving the world one robbery at a time.
Any, any, any, any events this week.
Yeah, just working on scamps and working on E four 30s and usual stuff. You know, nothing.
Much there's not a lot of difference between those two cars. They're.
Saying it's just different scale.
It's like a Matchbox car. Good.
Very good. Well.
We'll get you updates in a second.
Scotty updates with you. I don't have much car updates.
I've just been busy with my with my health and things that I've had to do and all that, so unfortunately not too much there. I've been busy with that, with
hospital visits and whatnot. I guess the only thing that I
can think of is I've got the brake discs and everything ready to go and the pads ready to go onto the Subaru.
So I'll get that done when I can booked in to get front bearings done on the Subaru. Show you that will happen next
week. And just trying to chase up and
auto electrician that will come out to me for the R31.
So just trying to get someone to do that to get that headlight done and then I should be hopefully then I should be set for the roadworthy on that. The only other interesting thing
is I showed a picture of this earlier on I got the latest wheels special edition. Pretty interesting with some of
the. Top 10s so top 10 categories for
sedans, sports cars, 4 wheel drives you to pick up small cars, hot hatches and supercars as interesting to see what they've put in their top ten. And how does #1 say?
Popped in from the last 70 years, are they saying or?
Yeah, Yep, OK. What's their top 10 hot hatches?
I I just wanna. Top 10 hot hatches is starting
OK #10 is the A 45? OK.
And we got the Renault 5. The Renault Sport McGann so the
Cup trophies 25260 fives and 270 fives.
The Ford Escort, Rs Cosworth, Toyota Corolla SX GDI.
Lancia Delta Integrale. Renault 16 TS.
Wow. Hmm.
And then in 3rd spot is the Honda Civic Type R.
Second spot is the Volkswagen Golf GTI and the winner is the Peugeot 205 GTI. Yeah, that that was.
That's what I was trying to say. That was most likely would win.
Yeah, very cool. Very, very cool.
I'll have to give myself a copy of that.
Yeah, it's really interesting what they got in there for sports cars. I mean, the winner for sports
cars, pretty obvious portion of seven.
At this point. Of course, Like, why wouldn't it
be? Yeah, they've been doing it for
long enough and it works. Absolutely.
Is it pick a particular generation or just the range of nine elevens? Just the range doesn't pick one
in particular, just says Porsche 9/11.
I don't think I'll double check it, move on to the next person and I'll double check it, but that's all mine.
Rob updates with you, my friend. What's happening in your car
space? Oht been cleaning out the
garage, looking at a new place for my cars, been the scamp rolls out. I've actually put the bumper bar
back on for you and to really keep them if that car all sorted for you. Yeah, it's it's it's going this
week. It's going this week.
It's actually move this week. It's just really busy.
I couldn't fit it in so. Yeah, that's that's fair enough.
So all being busy anyway, apart from that working on the 4:30 trying to get. The front running quarter was
well, guard was smashed, so I'm replacing it with a good guard and the lower part of the the bumper bar was all broken off, all the low apron was all smashed up.
So I replaced the entire bumper bath from another car.
So I'll clean the car up, ready for sale so I can make a bit of cash to pump into my E 2:30 my 2:30 CE.
Sorry. Yeah.
So been sort of, kind of sort of looking at different forums and things on on YouTube, skies and everything else to see having to go about doing engine swap on at 2:30, so.
That's the the next big one, so looking forward to that if that all goes well. It doesn't look as complicated,
it looks like a few people have done it and a lot of people put V eights in them and all sorts of things, so I'm only putting A6 cylinder in it so. It shouldn't be overly
complicated. What's going in there?
Well, Bara. No, no, I'm not doing the Barra,
so I'm doing the the actual W was it?
Yeah, the the 210, W 210. Straight motor.
And so it's sort of the next generation motor from what's in there at the moment. Yeah, I don't know what it's
called, an M1O four or something like that.
Motor Yeah. Yeah.
So, yeah. So looking at doing that,
hopefully that will go fairly. Smoothly, so we'll see what
happens when I get there. Exciting times, yeah.
Ellen Unfortunately not too many updates on my end either.
All the cars are going well and working, which is always a plus.
I'm dropping off the MX5, the soft top on.
I think this coming Monday. So and they gave me a couple of
day time frame. They said we'll keep it.
Well, ideally you give us a week, yeah, but we'll be probably done in a couple of days.
OK. So yeah, looking forward to
that, not looking forward to spending another $2600 on top of my $100. Deposit.
Is it the blue top as well? Yes, it is the blue.
Top. Same colour?
Yeah. OK, good.
Making sure I'm going to pay for something.
Yeah. Yeah, or at least look again.
The colour is probably a little bit from the sun, imagine so the new colour would be shade darker here and there, but that's expected. But.
Pretty shade darker all over Alan, if it was a shade darker here and there I probably that that is correct I mean to say.
The STI I decided to get a little present because it's got CarPlay, except you have to the phone plugged in and I've broken a cable already. I got a little wireless CarPlay
unit, so you basically plugged that in and then just just double side tape it somewhere hidden.
It says small units about I'd say 2 inches by two inches.
Cheap because I want to get one for Micah.
Yeah, less than 100 bucks, I guess.
But you can get cheaper ones. But then reliability kind of
fall off. Yeah.
Yeah. So you don't wanna spend too
much money. You don't spend too little as
well. The 1:00 I've got is I think I
forget the brand I've got on Amazon, but it's like the the one that everyone advised you to get.
Basically, the reviews are ideally this and so yeah, it would be nice to have the wild card place.
So one I was happy with the wild card play in the Subaru.
It's just I literally broke the cable because the moment you drive around and the the phone locks around a bit, it's gone.
So I'd rather have the phone somewhere safe.
Transmit wirelessly. I need to have my tunes or my
podcasts or, you know, listen to big car talking major, maybe listen to audio retro, maybe. Yeah, I've been trying to get on
that. But yeah, just it's a little bit
easy listening, a little present for the car.
And I think that's a bit for me. Tomorrow and you said you're
getting your exhaust sorted on Saturday.
Yeah so I did try running with this straight 6 and Q.
Tips I did, I did take it to the shop.
So you know in the in the Falcons they've got halfway down to put a it looks sort of like a bright spot that just goes across and then they exhaust sits above that so.
Yeah. So the exhaust, obviously the
red back there wasn't enough bend in from the original.
So from the original down to the red back there wasn't enough bend in there. And then every time I go over a
bump it hit it hit that that bit.
They just put washers in space it out a bit about of probably now probably a finger with space in there and drove it off.
Yeah, nothing took it on the hardest Bubba could take it just to make sure but yeah it's it's all good now.
Nothing. Nothing to do in there, but
everything else was all fine. They checked it out if it was
robbing anywhere else, but no, that was the only only spot it was doing. After I from my last weeks
update, after I blew the push that relay and the guy the guy sent me out, he sent me out another one.
This time I opened it first before I plugged it in and it was all fine. It was.
The wise went backwards. Start No, the wires were the
same the backwards. The right way and yeah, plug
connected all the wiring internally and stuff like that and they'll work, so yeah. Yeah.
And you know what I was thinking?
Because you know, remember when I when we first got the car that we were starting it up, sometimes it wouldn't start when you turn the key, I think there's an ignition ignition barrel. There's an issue in there
because now every time I use the push back kick straight away without without without any issues, so.
Look at it might come in handy permanently sometimes you know if that English and barrel the the the start the ignition part fails. I don't need to worry about
swapping it out but. We're going to do the mirror
and. The There's a lot to do.
And then just last night I I got the there's a amount that you get for the reverse camera so instead of using the original map which is just the metal bracket then just screw it in.
There's an actual mount that sits inside so it looks a little bit more factory. So yeah got that took off the
with the with the the logo suits that little patio thing took that off cut it out put that in there and then ran the cable all the way from the head unit all the way down reach right to the back seat came into the boot and was like a metre and a half short. So I'll talk about that.
Yeah, I do. So I ordered, I ordered a
extender and then it's not last year came.
It's one of those 4 pin ones. There's a little tiny 4 pin one.
Yeah. So I ordered one of those
extenders, so they should be coming by Thursday and I'll just literally have to just open the book, connect it up from there and that's it, yeah. Get that old one, that's
probably about 8. Obviously there's still a lot
left in the line to to do, which I've got everything ready.
Just time. Time and not enough light in the
day. Which is really hard.
The issue. Yeah, so but yeah, no, he's
going along well, everything else.
All I was trying to make fun of someone for the the the exhaust, which I still haven't got it whenever I get the chance, but it sounds pretty good. Do you ever listen to Yes last
week? Yeah, after the show sounded
pretty tough. It doesn't sound like a people
to. Speak.
No, no, it doesn't sound good. Yeah, sounds good.
Sounds solid. Like I I'll be first to, you
know be right railing on Tyrone right now so you know props to the guy would be exhausted. Good job.
Gonna come with us after after the show.
Update with me cleaning a few cars because you know I'm on school holidays. It's it's nice.
Isn't Scotty having having a bit of a break.
It is well deserved. Well deserved.
I completely agree with that. Well deserved break for doing.
Nothing doing nothing. Yeah.
Tomorrow I'm going to take the xray out, give it, give it a nice wash for form for the old lady and then, you know, cover it up and put it back in. You can sleep till she decides
to use it again and I think that's actually, you know like I haven't done, I haven't much. I just haven't had time.
Like I actually this weekend I've had family from Adelaide and a whole bunch of stuff happened So haven't been able to to fully get my my life kind of sorted during the break but basically yeah that's kind of give yourself.
No. Well, yesterday I I was.
Actually David, it's actually Dave 4 because his his school holiday started on Friday. Exactly.
Curious, yes, I still. Like when he comes and goes.
I was so tired, right? I you know, I got up yesterday
morning because we said we said goodbye to to to this family before they before they went back to to rather laid anyway, had breakfast and basically I went back to bed.
Yeah, I did. All I did was like, I I let him,
I'll let him on my bed. I was like, I'll play some soda.
And I was like, oh, just shut my eyes for a second.
And then it was like, it was 4 hours, like it was 2:00 o'clock.
I remember what the hell just happened.
When, when, when was this? And the steps, like steps
working from home today, she's like, I walked in and I was talking to you and she's like, he was dead to the world.
I'm like, I was so tired. So it was it was nice to feel.
I do feel refreshed today. Thank you.
No, Tom Thomas was. We was hanging with with his mom
at work and I was having a nice break.
But. That was pretty much that.
I wanna take out the Fiesta at some point this week and then I just talk through the cars, probably drive the MR2 on the weekend, which would be nice. On Might I might bring that to
the gearbox, David. Oh, nice.
Which would be cool. But that that is all on my
cupboards. Oht you know the LCD got the
deposit for it. It's the guys waiting to pick it
up probably wins probably either tomorrow or Thursday.
So it will be it will be gone so Rob can breathe easy.
He's husband catch fire ever again.
It turns out the guy and I was robbed and he's like.
Yeah. Would be like you.
Know this Again, not. Getting no he'd be like I don't
work on forwards and and then he's like 6 hours at home anyway so no but look that is it on my car updates gentleman moving to tonight's topic of it's kind of like what would you rather but it's more of like old or new like old versus new in terms of in terms of the specs of the spec of the car and and and and you know the model. So for example I did mention
earlier in the chat it could be EG or Ek Civic you know like which one did you prefer the new or the older one or or you know GCA or G. See you or you know what would
have you WRX etcetera so. You know car companies like they
obviously they evolve their car over time and if you look at original 911 and we'll discuss this before, it's quite a dainty car compared to like a a modern GT3 Rs which is you know always double the size. It's very fat, it looks good.
Why would you go for and why not now?
I did ask you guys to to kind of kind of put some together.
I've. I've got, I've got one.
I got one pass to start off with which is a.
Which which is a bit of a which I just mentioned earlier guys the EG as the Ek Civic. Now these two Civics for me were
like quintessentially fast and furious era Honda Civics where where they were all you know they're all you know what he kidded and and all not all of them but like you know this was this was that era of of those cars.
I would have always said AK, but then I've kind of got like a soft spot for an Eugenio and I've and I I like the G you know the split tailgate. I I think I absolutely love
that. I think that I think it's such a
cool unique thing for specially for a car that size like not not not much other. I don't think any other car that
size is kind of doing so I'm probably going to say EG but.
Again like a really nice Ek like I'd love Ek type bar or or something along those lines. Would would, would be, would be
definitely a a pick for me. So alright before I before I
pick I'll ask you guys Ek EG Civic they are a tuners favourites. They are easily inverted commas
moddable easily. You can buy every single part
known to man for those cars. If you want to do something it's
been done and you can do it. Like everyone wants a case or
don't case Rob I'm just just just like enjoy them as they are or B16 which which is which is which is always which is always a good time. David Prince you are the Honda
guru of this of this group you've obviously I think you've bought and sold a few a few of these cars correct I've.
Had a couple of couple of the KS and still got one in the family.
Actually, you've got to be picky there.
There are better morals in in each range obviously.
If I was having an edge, love them Both eggs were inspired.
The design of the three door hatch.
This design was inspired by the flounder fish.
There's Car Talk topped it for tonight.
So I'm actually we're inspired by the shape of the flounder fish and that's where the shape came from.
So an interesting I've got a photo when they first came out in the early 90s we had a concourse event and we had a Honda Z at one of the at the events and I've got a great photo somewhere over Honda Z and in the background is an egg hatch and the action and the profile is actually identical so it's just ramped up sizewise. Long nose.
Sort of cut off Cam, sort of style back on it.
But of course they came in, they came in well 4 specs actually when they first came out and and the base was a 1.3 carby right
up to the twin Cam D16 SSI in the in the first gym when they first came out. So obviously that's the one you
pick if you if you had the choice.
I think the Si when the model was superseded and they they all got injection, fuel injection, the VTi actually was a single am Btech so certainly not as exciting.
A drive I suppose, as the SI was in the previous in the pre facelift car. And then in the but the Ek was a
much more grown up sort of card probably.
Probably more. Tough call, but probably a
better engineered sort of development and my picking that up. We never got a K nines here,
obviously the the Type R version, but my pick of those would be the VTR which we did get here.
We just got the twin Cam again, the 1600 twin Cam with the injection, that's a stonking little car, but it was about double the price of the base model and as a result there were not a lot of sold and they're even harder to find now, I mean to find it's a long time since I've seen it original.
United AK VIR. But I keep looking.
I keep looking. So I think of all of those I I
if I could find any KB to her, that would be the one.
I think they're just a bit more. Bit more grown up than the EG
which you would hope they were sort of thing is that it was five years further on in development of the castle and so. I like a base lift.
Ek with, with, with, without the the like the rubber.
Moulds in the bumper. The black mould in the bug,
Yeah, I I do like. I do like those for me, I.
How could if by my dream one of those would be an EKG with like a split tailgate, I think that would have been the perfect cup.
But obviously that doesn't. Exist.
Have you seen any any pictures of the the?
I think it's obviously been America somewhere I'm sure but they take a four door sedan and graphs that the the Hatch from the three door onto the 4 door sedan to end up with A5 door Ek.
No, haven't seen that. Yeah, that's there's a few of
those getting around and they're pretty cool.
They look up right so. The sedans were never as popular
and we've talked about these before on the on the podcast.
More practical obviously, but not not as good looking I don't think but not not as popular and and that's reflected in the values of them now. I mean you can pick up a decent
sedan for between 2:00 and 3:00 grand in an Ek really without much, much looking better. But the hatches are, you know,
at least double that, if not more.
Yeah, I think they had just, I think they look better as well.
Yeah, the sedans were quite like the rear ends were a bit frumpy on those, I thought. Where I think the AJ sedan
looked better than the yeah. Design.
I completely agree with that. But I'd probably go, yeah,
you're right, I think you know the spec there.
VIR in an Ek would be, would be, would be where it's at.
You'd probably pay somewhere around the 15 to the you know, for a really good one, whereas an EK9.
There are a few imports dribbling in, but they're just silly money. Like 50 grand plus I last time I
saw. Yeah, but I think they're three
times the car. Sorry.
Um, the one I like is Ek but. I really enjoy and like not the
hatchback but the coupe. Oh, OK.
Yes, yes. Yeah, that's my pick.
It's just, I know it's just really suits the civic.
Not in the four door or anything, just the two door just makes it look nice. Bit smaller is to always seeing
them as hatchbacks and nothing against it, but just I know some about the coupe just gets me going.
I really like it. But I think majority were just
American, I think the coupe. All American.
Yes, Sir. Which doesn't make any sense.
I don't know why. I think it would have done well
everywhere else and just America, but yeah, just America's order. The Well, no, we got them here.
Yeah, I don't see many for sale. I'm geez, they're red.
Did we not get that many or? Well, again, now we're pretty
pricey. They were, they were they were
pitched premium, premium. They were deer than the Hatch
and sedan OHS. Whereas in.
In in America they they were like the cheapest Honda you could buy the EK2 door Civic. So it was like you know keep
parents gave them to their kids for you know to drive to university is as you know turning 16.
They got got Ek civic groups basically.
Yeah, yeah. And that's the one we got in the
family. My daughter in law drives an EK9
and. My son bought that oht gosh.
Probably six or seven or seven or eight years ago now probably.
And it's great. It just goes and goes and goes.
Great little car. But yeah, they came originally,
they came with the single overhead, the single overhead Cam VTech in the VTi and then they split the model in the facelift and we've got a GLI and we've got a VCR.
So we get the twin Cam, which I think was the SSI in America.
But um. The quality probably wasn't up
there with the Japanese cars, especially early on.
I think I've mentioned before, I remember when they were brand new, one being PD, one of the Honda dealers I did work for and they couldn't work out why the electric mirrors weren't working and they actually pulled the module apart and there were no one if the module. You know, like.
I remember you telling me that on the.
Lot of the components came from South of the border in the USA should we say And yeah, part of the, a lot of the quality wasn't quite as good, but by the time they got here and and and it certainly improved a lot. For the for export I think.
So. David seemed to be.
It's interesting because the when my son bought, he's, I think he paid 3 grand for it, you know, I mean and it's been perfectly good for all those years and it's probably worth double that now as it is with 300,000 cases on the clock.
Yeah, so. Very sought after.
So it's gotta your your Ek, David.
You're OK. What about you, Tyrone and Alan?
Now, despite having two Hondas in the family when I was a kid, both civics. I.
I'm not too well versed in the the hunters and the civics, unfortunately, but I'll reference it from.
Initial D Where. Yeah, Singer was driving Civic.
He was. He's from the night kids.
He's one of the bad guys he was. Awesome, he was.
White Dick, man. Yeah, he's a little chance to
steering wheel and he was alright with it because he had the handbrake. Yeah, he was driving an F.
Yeah, correct. 36 Yeah, G6. So just solely based on that,
I'll go with the Egg six or the egg look, looks wise.
I mean, it's hard to beat an Ek hatch, but you know, if I'm going to pick one, that's the one.
That's the one. Initially.
But they didn't match. What about you, Taran?
I like the look of the the Ek. Yeah.
Yeah, I don't know. It just looks more.
I don't know, just the the egg is a little bit round, isn't it?
On the top, yeah. Yeah, it's.
I don't know, he came for me. Rob.
AK as well, I think, yeah, I'm not sure which one would probably be a bit more visceral in driving, probably the EEG bit more raw. Yeah, but yeah, probably.
OK. Interestingly when they first
were released, we we had one of the product planners from Honda on a Zoom meeting during COVID and and we did we did a special for the club, some Zoom Zoom meetings and we talked about the 50th anniversary of the Civic coming up and he was working at Honda when the eggs were released.
And for some reason some reason the product plan is he didn't tick the box for the the underbody sound deepening and that sort of stuff. So the early cars we got were
really noisy like the the road noise.
Was bad and the transmission of the engine noise was bad and and all the road testers said what is going on and as soon as they he said as soon as they landed and we drove them we thought Oh no what's going wrong here Went back in the course you know that box wasn't ticked on the order form so none of the Australian spec cars had had the right sound insulation in them so that was very quickly rectified. But yeah they're very early cars
were not known for being very quiet so yes, raw and visceral.
I think that's the that's the nice way to do that.
From from one end of Civics we're kind of mid Civic 2 to current Civics. So in terms of the current.
Shape you know, type are we get with the L5 versus the previous shape Type R the FK 8. Which one do you like more and
why now? It took me a while to warm to
the FKA, but after seeing the one you drove David that time in the blue, I just absolutely fell in love with it.
I'm like, that is a good looking car.
I I I was, I was all over. But what about you guys?
The current Type R or the OR the older one?
Like what? Tyra's got up here on this phone
right now. I feel like the current type are
as long as in the championship, right?
Yeah, that is pretty hard to beat.
Delta Bar, I'd say my favourite colour is blue, yeah, which I think David had access to one of our classic notch fan trip that was that like having them back to back.
It would be a very, very hard call for me, but I'd probably give it to the new one like I do like that front design because it's. Like, yeah.
Somebody was like, what about Integra type the Caravan?
Yeah, I throw them all out for that, yeah, but we can't get that, we. That is the reason why we're
gonna bring that here is because it's no, no right hand driver believe. I think they only bring him as a
left hand drive, so. We could drive left hand drive.
Yeah, you. For the blue mean.
No for the for the integra type. Ohe yes, yeah, yeah.
No, no, no. They're they're not being built
in right hand drive at all, as far as I'm aware.
Absolute, absolute shenanigans, I must say.
Japanese. Peanuts.
Yes, it's you know, not necessarily for that market, but still you know like I think it would sell well here.
I think I think it's looking. Good.
Yeah. It's very looking car it's and
it's got powder boot, you know. So it would be, you know it's an
Integra which I think is just even the name itself.
It's just nice cool. Yeah, because you got the any of
the Integra. Yeah.
That's right. It was always based on the
Civic. So the well, the early ones were
the first Gen Integras were. I think I'm, I'm with Manny on
the the FK. When it came out, I thought,
you've got to be kidding, you know, that's just so over the top. Then I drove it and just said,
Yep, I don't care what it looks like, it's brilliant to drive and I'll have one of those. And then when I saw the photos
for the F5, I thought, you know what, I think I still prefer the FKA, but in the flesh that's a much nicer car.
Not much nicer looking car, more sort of.
Smelt osmose. The word is, you know, like it.
It's an interestingly the, I think the front doors and the roof of the only common panels. Correct.
To to the to the normal normal hatch because the the the guards are so beautifully integrated into the white and guards and it's got much more present as a type R in the flesh.
Having a wouldn't kick either out of the garage, I'd say, and I have. I'm yet to drive an F5, so watch
this space, I'll come back to you on that.
OK, Scotty. I think I'm pretty much the same
as as alum when it comes to this one.
Colour wise and everything I would.
Have to go with the older one and.
In the blue. Which is odd, because when, as
everyone's been saying, when I first saw it, I thought, Oh my God, this thing is crazy. Like they've gone.
I thought they've gone over the top, all these weird angles and things all over it. But when you see it in person,
it's so much different. It works.
It actually works and looks fantastic and just beautiful in that blue. Honda know how to do a blue?
I would have to agree with that. That's just their.
Colour is any kind of blue, they're just perfect.
But yeah, I think that comes to quite a lot of cars.
You need to see them in person compared to just pictures and things like that. It's just so much different when
you see them in person and that Honda is a prime example of it.
OK, so you're you're all you're FKA Rob.
Yeah, likewise. I haven't seen one in person, so
I only seen what's on TV and what not and and just the new one looks too. I know it looks fat.
Yeah. It does.
It does look really fat. Yeah, whereas the old one looks
just so I know it's out there and it's but.
It's what it's supposed to be. I think it's supposed to be
that. Sort of exciting look and I
think WRX is another car like that that's sort of gone backwards in there. Bad sort of being out as a, you
know, WRC car or a rally car. It's sort of sort of toned down
there. I don't know.
Well, I think it's kind of like it's kind of like a split decision between between you guys with with that one.
That's good. That's what makes us all
individuals. Correct.
Well, you, Tyrone, you're you're tossing up between the two photos. Yeah.
I don't know like if it depends on what you like to be honest.
Like if you if you like a small car like looks zippy around you know you go with the the FK 8. But I don't know if I like the
FL 5. Yeah, like.
I don't know, the FK looks like a.
I know if you look at it from a distance, look at mosquito coming towards you. The with the angles in the
shapes of the but like this one looks more like you know it looks if you looking at it like dead 1 looks more mean you can say you know. But I you know if I'd chosen the
FK in the blue, for me that is just like.
Yeah, I mean. Yeah, that colour just works
with that car. It just.
It just of the FL power wasn't blue.
Well, I've seen in the blue and I don't.
Think the blue. It's it's a lady Amazing.
Yeah. So that's an SK8.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I I, yeah, I'm, I'm, well,
they'll bring in the blue here currently, so.
Saying if I felt. Just just because like and I
can't think I'm saying this because.
I can't believe one colour in a car makes that car for me.
It it it, it completely changed it so.
That's not bad. The Reds OK, but it's it's still
a bit too. Much.
And that's I think the final thing that leads me over for the FL5 is that the championship white is such a pure colour.
It lets the car like the shape of the car just walking.
Right. You know, hiding anything with
what? Correct.
Yeah. So like it's the shape of the
car that you really appreciating most.
Most of all. That's why it kind of edges over
for me as a win. Fair enough.
Did you guys have any before I continue my list or do you want to discuss? It you keep going.
OK, cool, because I'm doing this out of spite.
But Ed, after what he said to me last week, we always been to the U Falcon on the show. Sorry.
So here you go ahead. Here's your here's your here's
your mention of BU Calvin the U Falcon versus the BA series versus the FG series. Like we're doing 3 there, like
the final three kind of iterations.
Of of Falcon, FGX or. Does it just?
Looks different. I was gonna get you because
because throw T5 and have a good time.
Yeah, have a good time now. Look.
Comparing everything I think. The BA BF era is probably the
ideal one. The FG kind of had all the tech
and I guess engine, everything else optimised to what?
I guess it could be a little bit with the FX, but you know it was basically all the way there with the FG whereas I use you.
But in terms of kind of where the car was bringing in the mirror engine and everything else, I'm going to give to the big here and those XR sixes, like, especially with those lights. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You can't tell me the eggs will get any better.
Like the tail lights. Yes.
Front, no. I I would agree with you Alan.
I reckon the BA was such a quantum leap over the AU and such A and and such a relatively.
Well, I think the doors were the same, weren't they?
Yeah, the doors. Are all that midsection.
It was a really clever, intelligent facelift.
I reckon it it transformed the car from something that you know was quite polarising to something that was, you know, quite distinctive and handsome really.
They did a good job those boys at forward with that one and then yeah the FG probably is better again, especially as you say tech wise and everything but the but I think the the BA was such a quantum leap away from the US that was very well thought out update. So if you had to choose, one of
the three would be B series or F series.
B Series unless. Rob, you you've got, you've got
an FG. Yeah, and I'm gonna go totally
opposite. I'm gonna go.
Are you? Because I reckon Mercedes copied
at the AU. It was you that was telling me
that the ASU won design awards when it came out and and we will it was just staggered that the the car went design awards for the for the multiple colours grey interior and and.
Just was quite a bit of innovation for its time interior wise. And.
I'm still, I'm still here to figure out what the innovation was after all these years. It could be the cup holder or
something like that. That something good.
But you know, great car to go whale watching in and stuff like that down the coast. OK, Yeah, it was.
I think it might have been probably more aerodynamic than having two cars put together. It was it was much dynamic
Falcon they that that was the other part of the campaign when it when it when it came out. And and yeah, I don't know, like
for me, if you can give me a into a tea like a late model TT15. Yeah, like T3T50I think it's a
good looking car. I think.
I think that's that's where it's at.
Scotty. I am going for the B series BA
BF UM. I think it was very iconic.
I remember when they released it and drove it around for like the first time at Mount Panorama during Bathurst.
So I remember that change. It just stuck with me and one of
my other silly reasons as to why is because.
The fog lights line up with the headlights underneath.
The FG go out. Yeah.
And it's like an on an angle like that.
With it doesn't line up properly and that annoys you aren't like that. I know it's it's so silly but it
really irritates. No, no, I.
In the straight line straight underneath and it goes out of that like. It well believe it or not I'm
Scotty there there is there is a well the draw like well the the pre production ones that the FG was supposed to have had them up higher in the guards more kind of looking like a WRX.
And there was a couple that were released productions and they only got passed at the back door for that you could be released but the people took them off and put them on their cars and then actually fixed that, fixed that thing.
But then they went with your design which is which is you know down the bottom which, which is which is the angles.
Yeah, I'm just a symmetrical kind of guy.
Yeah, it's it's just. Off it's no, I should be
straight down. I could always tell when a cop
was behind me because the the the lights would be like that.
Like, yeah, that's a that's a Ford cop car, yeah.
Yeah. But yeah, next one for you
gentlemen, is the WSOP first Gen WRX like a GC8, Subaru WRX or I'm not going to go the car one because the current one I don't think looks that good, but I'm going to say you're, you're, you're. The VAVA generation which which
is Alan Shape which was the last of the EJ as we know last of the STI as as as we also know. So I after driving an original
WRX, not necessarily just original GCI, I really didn't realise how quite small they are.
They they're quite petite little car they're not really they're not really wide at all and then coming into yours it's a massive difference but I'm not in terms of in terms of how the car felt the drive but more like that that DNA was still there but.
I just think it was just, I mean, cars had to get bigger and safer and and it didn't feel like a tin care like the cheesy A did. So I thought I'd get your
opinions, gentleman. Friend, I've gotta get GCA.
I like that. I like the the rawness of of
taking, you know, an eco. You know what was their cheap
little car at the time? And making it go like stink.
Hmm. Yeah, it wasn't.
In a 2 door. Oh, for preference.
Yep, if you've got a big bank balance.
Yeah. It's really cool too.
But. I go the GC82.
I used to have a an RX. That was the GC 8, and I was a
great little car. I just liked the size of it.
And yeah, GCA is just the shape of WRX pretty much, yeah.
It made them what they are. You think it's the most iconic
because of cause like because there's all picture WR.
It's like whatever it says to me, the first thing that goes in my mind is Colin McRae throwing it around rally stage, you know, GCA runner rally stage. That is kind of.
What big circle fog lights? Straight away.
The other one that came with the yellow.
Forget they're in line. They're in line, yeah.
There are a lot. Zombies WX kind of say that you
are. What are your thoughts and where
we Where would your money be going?
Singers, you gotta be a yourself.
Yeah, well, see, you didn't bring the best ones a lot, which was the GD's, because if you had said, you know, GDR, blah blah.
I'll be blow my all. Day Yeah, yeah.
That is even what's the name? The the guy that does cars on
YouTube, one of the Doctor Mirror, he actually ended up driving a a blow by STI relatively recently.
You liked it? Yeah, he's like the car still
got it, you know obviously it does feel dated but yeah and I think that's that's part of the problem is with the GCA.
It's it's getting very dated at this point, it's.
It's like like real. The, the rudest, David, I'm sure
there's you appreciate turning like you know the Econobox into something fast and really it also punishes you, you know the road noise and everything else. You can't cook, you know keep a
conversation 80 days, an hour, that sort of thing.
You start to kind of appreciate the comforts that you get in the newer generations, which why again if the BLOB was on the table, that's where I take. But having the whole experience,
I'd probably go with the VA just knowing that you know I've got the, the newer engine more power and the power delivery is actually a lot more linear. Yeah, there's there's a link to
that. Scotty.
I think he's just posted the link.
Yeah, to an import available for a spec.
See still. Very special and very special.
Good price as well. It's got, it's got.
The if anyone wants to lend me 40,000?
Dollars the rally Hutch. Yeah, if.
Anyone wants to lend me $40,000 would be very happy to buy it.
I want you to do bank post, but given given all that information, I think you know comfort, linear power delivery, that sort of thing. All the tech I take the V8 but
if if blobby was on the table, blah blah, that's where I'll be so. Alright, Hello.
You just said that. Yeah, you've been ready.
You ready? Man.
Alright. I'm racist again.
Of course I am. I don't know.
To be honest, I probably go breaking things now.
I'll probably go with with Alan's one nobody.
Yeah, very good. I do like the other one.
The I'm gonna have a quick caveat to that.
It has to be the STR. X because the VX has start using
the FA 20 and so that sounds like farts if that was the case.
If it's just definitely GCA. But it doesn't seem like there's
a difference. But it's good.
It's good. I I'm all about that that EJ
life as well. For me, I just don't feel like
colour crayon and GC 8. But I would.
I would not say no to a VA in my driveway.
Definitely not. And what about you guys?
What are your olds or news before I get to my last one of the ones I wrote down? I couldn't help but think of.
Two came to mind immediately. Volkswagen Beetles.
Hmm. And when you when I got the
message from you was actually at a BMW dealer and and I when I I read it and I looked up from my phone and I looked around at the. How do I say this nicely?
Current range That's miserable. The.
What was what was before me? And I thought, Yep, I think
bring back the 90s for BMW. I think, I think they've lost
their way a little bit in the old design area.
Um, sadly a lot of them look like sort of pretty bad 3D copies of what they used to be like, You know, 3D remakes of them. But that's just a personal
opinion. Whereas a nice, you know, M5
from the 90s or. Some of those lovely three
series, you know, early three series before the year 19.
I'm I'm not a fan of Mr Mango's work, so anything pretty bangle I think would be preferable. It's a sweeping generalisation
because of course the techs incredible now and the and the safety features are fantastic and and all those sorts of things, but. I want to say that.
I want to say that the bank stuff is better than the current stuff. And.
Well. I know they probably fighting
words for you David, but I just think.
I I dislike them equally. Man so.
Yeah, fair enough. Fair enough.
No, no I yeah so I was gonna say the Conan 2 and the previous M2 and even was in the previous two cause kind of two just like I saw one today and I'm like it just looks foggy and it doesn't it doesn't look right like it looks like it's it's just like it's overgrown it's like it looks like it's a it's a bodybuilder with overgrown muscles for what for what what's actually healthy whereas the last into in that in that lovely as through blue that comes in it's just a beautiful colour I think that I think that that's that's a really good looking car. But.
It's a you said Beatles, now you said original Beatles to to to like the one of the last ones I made.
Yeah, actually, probably. We'll even companies.
I mean, I when I was in the UK I saw an ID buzz, which is the new electric combi. But they'll never have the
character of the old companies. I mean, it's it's.
I mean what if you talk character, I mean they they got it in spades safety features not so much.
But the earlier cool Beatles obviously before that the the new Beetle of the new Millennium that came out and I think 2000 or 2001 or something, which was basically a golf, you know in in that in that shape that was. Not a not a brilliant man.
Well, it was a great marketing exercise, but I don't think it paid off nearly as as well as they'd hoped.
After going in and original Beetle for the first time last year, like because I've seen him for years, I've never thought I was gonna die more in a car than I was in that car.
I was terrified and we'll do 100 really.
I thought I was in the back seat.
No seat belt. And I'm like this is it, this is
this is the end. I was, I was I was halfway
through running my wheel in the back seat and basically saying yeah this is it. But after driving one of the
last Beatles to come to Australia, like the you know, the the between the twin charged you know it was a good looking car. I thought I thought it was.
I thought it was it wasn't bad looking car.
But it just didn't. It didn't have the the same like
kind of appeals and original beetle for me.
No, no. I'd have it to look at, but I
wouldn't drive. It, But yeah, he's saying.
Lovely to look at, precious to hold.
But you don't have one. Don't drive one.
And with all due respect I feel safer in the in the scam that that I did in a in a Beatle. I just.
I just felt like a bit of was was was going through old.
I thought I was generally going to die.
I don't feel that way often in the car.
So. And especially when he was
loving that, that, that that was even more terrifying.
Ohe, there you go, OK? Yeah.
So I'll probably go original Beatle.
What about you, Rob? You Original Beatle?
I reckon the last of the tooth out it was the the beetle which was built in 2003. One of them.
The Brazilian one, yeah. Yeah.
Maybe one of them still original?
Um, but it probably drives a little bit better than the old ones. Yeah.
They had fuel injection and all those sorts of things too, which made them a bit easier to live with, I think, yeah.
Yeah. Probably a bit more usable.
And BMW, so long as they're brand new, the new ones, but otherwise always go for an old one.
Yeah. It wouldn't be a.
It wouldn't be a hard choice. An 8 a 30 backwards.
Ohk gosh real old OK. Nothing above E30.
E 30s don't even like E30 sixes. I think they started going
backwards then. Alright.
Event that you're gonna make a lot of people pissed off.
I mean, Scotty had any 46. Oht so I I I love the shape the
E46. I think that was a lovely.
Car. So do I but.
That you would know. I've I've engineered to
basically self destruct in five to seven years.
Couldn't even unless. You know, yeah, it it's it's,
it's sad, It is hard cause like any 46 for me it's still a good looking car. But my last one was, was for
you, Scotty in particular. 31 Scotland where it was real nice
and boxy, or a 32 when they when they went to something a bit near a bit more round. You know, I'm I'm a soft spot
for I've got a soft spot for 80 cars and both of these cars are you know originally from the 80s.
But I I love cars that are drawn that were designed with a ruler and the 31 was designed by with a ruler.
So Scottish thing is you. You've owned both.
You're probably the best one to ask for this.
First and foremost, A32 GTR or a or is I think a GT SR31.
So. That was pretty tough because I
do have spots, soft spot for 80s cars as well, the boxy shapes.
I would have to go with the 32 GDR.
OK. Um, still, don't get me wrong,
31 love it to pieces. Which is that 32 GDR?
Like what a massive change. Yeah, yeah.
It's one of those cars that they really shouldn't have called it a skyline, should they really? I mean, they were going to, but
it was such a quantum leap again.
Like you just a massive everything that came with everything was different just. You know and stay still kept the
tail lights, the stove, stove top tail lights which was which was nice. But just everything else just
engineered changed brand new engine to go in it.
Um, four drive system just. Crazy.
Massively. For the 32 is one of those cars
that I look back on. When I think of cars, that kind
of completely rewrote the book for the company and for that model A32 compared to us like a 31.
I love 31, so I think I think they're they're they're in a 33 are like my my, my 2 favourites but a 32 when they came out.
Kind of rewrote what everybody thought was possible.
It it was, it was like it was a generation defining car.
I think for for mission as well, but also for for the skyline.
So I personally think that that would be that would be you know it's this, there's not many cars that you could that you could say that. You are able to to to to have to
have done that kind of defining the defining moment.
Yeah, such a leap in generation. Huge.
They. Reached the time, too.
It didn't workout too well for him.
Yeah. What?
Yeah, what do we call it there? Your balances all you want, it's
like. Wasn't exactly exactly happy
with that. So yeah, you're you're 32.
What about you, David? You Are you on the 32 bandwagon
as well? Yeah look I'd have to say so
don't know incredible looking things.
Not to mention they as everybody said they just changed the rewrote the rulebook really And and I I really do think it was one of those cars that was just. Bill in bore Solon resemblance
to what came before. It was just just a real landmark
car and the fact they were actually delivered.
I mean you could get an Aussie delivered one.
I mean if you could find one today that's I do One of my customers had one that he bought new from Gary Rogers in Springvale. He was older than me and yeah
how did the did a couple of tiny jobs on it where you know there were a couple of marks in the trim but the thing was just lovely in that book Andy and. Well, like with that colour, I
think that's a good colour, absolutely beautiful.
But I don't have a spare clicking through car sales.
Ooh, you know, $140,000. So you know, I'm.
You can pick them up for, you know, 7080 grand, now 32.
Oh yeah. There's actually a really nice
one for 88. Yeah, grey import, but still.
Good there, coming back down. They were hitting that six
figure all the time and they come about it now, OK.
I remember what I could have bought a 32 with a blown engine for 12 grand and I and this is, this is probably six or seven years ago and I I should have bought it.
I should have bought it. I had one.
I think at that same time that I purchased it was running and everything 1994 model. The last ones 18 grand I bought
it for. Now maybe you should bought the
bark as well, but that's a different.
Story. But yeah, the 32 I awesome cars.
I'm not sure what what they're like but the I when we're shopping for one. Actually it was Harley was
looking to buy the the later generation model like a 2000 maybe 12 model or 14. Yeah, and but they don't wear
well the new ones. There's they seem to the
interior seats and just interior just didn't didn't look like it was holding up to. Cracks in the.
Dash too, Yeah, it didn't just hold up to use.
We weren't very impressed with it at all, so we walked away from it. It was 70 odd $1000 at the time.
It wasn't big money. For what it was, but it just
didn't look like a war and everything looked dated.
Even the radio looked dated in it before.
You know, compared to other cars of that generation or vintage, Yeah, yeah, so. But yeah, 32 day and day out.
11. 32 Again, given the the leap that I took from the 31 and the
fact that it paved the path forward for 33 and 34 has to go for 32. And sorry.
But I like the 33, but I'll go 32.
I feel like the 33 no get a load of this guy.
So yeah, pretty, pretty solid decision.
Saying any last ones before we move on gentlemen, to the cryptic cars with Scotty tonight.
Yeah, I've got a I've got a Honda 1 here.
I know you've just covered the Civic, but I got the Integra.
So the DC-2 or the DC5 Integra. Hmm.
Now I'm gonna come in and straight away say I've got a real soft spot for DC Fives. I I I remember when they came
out and I was like, that is a good looking car and I could play I could I could play both in in Need for Speed Underground one but. It was called the I think it was
called the RSX. Acura RSX.
RX Yeah, in the in the game and like this is like the the the tail lights looked really cool. Looks like you know a poor man's
skyline with the, with the, with the, the stove top, tail lights, and. To kind of integrated in one
piece and I thought it was such a good looking car and then I saw that they that they actually delivered you know type alias and type S and and and things like that and to be fair I'll type I wasn't wasn't a proper full hog typo but you could still get it with like blue Ricardos.
I mean come on blue Recaro interior like that's amazing.
So for me as much as I love DC-2 and I think the DC probably probably probably the better car, I would go a DC5I just think they are. Yeah for me that is that is my
favourite Integra or 4 out of those out of those two pretty pop-ups because pop ups you know you just you just you can't be the pop up headlight Integra. Yeah, but I think, yeah, DC5
that day was going to be like you.
You've chosen the wrong car. You're not 100 fanboy.
For me, I I just, I just, I think I I think I was at that age when when they were new and I I really remembered him really well and and every time I was like the Tegra, you know look how cool that looks. So yeah that that for me is, is
the car I choose. I'm not following your
footsteps, Mary, Going with the DC5, just again, being a kid and seeing them and stuff just around and being able to play them in games whenever like somebody mentions Integra, that's the one that comes to my mind.
DC5. Thankfully as well, obviously
you know being around that the time that the the game, the game came along. So you know it was usually,
yeah, yeah, that was the best game.
That was the best one today, OK, haven't heard, but yeah, it's yeah, it just always say that. It's amazing what a video game
would do. OK, but DC?
Two is like, yeah. Yeah, ACH is the way to go, you
reckon? I think so, yeah.
Yeah. The original and the best.
The original and the best, yeah. I like the oldies versus the
young. It is.
Who do you want to join? Scotty?
Yeah, I'm with oldies DC-2. Was my jam.
OK. I just remember seeing him
around on the roads and OHS they were just, they look fantastic.
Gran Turismo being able to drive him on that.
Just, yeah, Integra, I would always look at Integras and choose them over a Civic any day.
OK. What colour?
For me it's going to be the yellow that they came in.
I love that yellow. I think that's just.
Ohhhhh yes with yellow. When you think of iconic cars
and you think of iconic models with colours you think of a DC DC-2 in that yellow like the. For me I like people like
honestly it's not the championship why but for me that's the kind of I'd have it in it.
It'll be it'll be the yellow same as the the DC file I have in that lovely blue. We'll talk about 100 those good
Blues they that blue with the with the with the blue Ricardos and interior yeah. Blue and blue Smurf speck Is
this how is how? Another Smurf Speck.
So, so Robbie, you're you're you're DC-2 all all the way.
All the way. Did you ever, Did you ever
driven one Rd? I've been in one made of ours,
bought a brand new one. Remember him?
Actually kept coming around to my work to to show the car off and on the way to work someone flicked a cigarette out and landed in the middle of his windscreen.
Wiper. Um shroud and the shroud at the
mountain because it's plastic. Or.
Not he was crying. He would have.
Actually melted the shroud. Yeah.
Um ohe reading reviews on the on the DC-2.
They were not a cheap car when they were like they were very expensive like they they were. There in their 40s.
Yeah, yeah, there was something stupid.
Yeah. Which which was now I think it's
the equivalent of like place that 80 grand here, I think equivalent money. Yep, they certainly weren't
cheap through through the through the 90s.
They also had a habit of getting a 5 finger discounted, if you know what I mean. Especially in the states where
they are worth drug money and I think I think it was like $125,000 one that sold out at some auctioned and that was.
Like not long ago. Yeah.
What disappointed me about Honda was is that they didn't carry on with the prelude and developed the Prelude the way they should have, I think. Yeah.
Yeah. Ilike.com.
Yeah, yeah. I I thought the last generation
I thought was a very good looking car of that, but I just didn't feel like it was as finished as the previous ones because like it they removed the four wheel steer.
I think we'll market they would all.
That's true, yeah. And they you know and and and
there was like such a big thing in the 90s and 80s like it was like he had four wheel steer. You can't wait around corners.
And then they moved out and then they moved a couple of cool things and like the end of still good, but like I just felt like compared to you know like a third or fourth Gen I just didn't think they were as as a as you know?
Well, finished if that, if that makes sense.
But from what I heard, it was the one car that came with four wheel steer that actually worked really well.
Correct. Yeah, head to anyone else's.
You know the the the third gens were totally mechanical system which was part of the genius in in the the day that it was what was fail safe really the 4th Gen when they went to an electronic system and then they dropped dropped the whole thing.
Mazda had a four wheel steer system as well which was electronic. It's interesting that it's one
of those things that well I mean a lot of modern powers now have some sort of what they call it vectoring sort of system with the resuspension. But, but yeah, that was a
revelation when they certainly came out.
There was a fantastic end when they came out and it was too too pretty sort of ballroom dancing basically like driving side by side and and just and you could see the wheel tracks on the on the dance floor sort of thing that they were they were doing.
They were incredible. And I just literally felt like
they were on rails to drive. They were great cars.
And still, you know, a a really nice surgeon is.
On Casiles, they they are worth a lot of money now.
They're going up all the time. They will be classic Honda,
absolutely moving forward I think.
If you had to choose one, that would be.
That would be the 131. Yeah, I'd love a nice virgin,
certainly. I've driven many.
I've never owned 1/3 Gen but never say never.
You never know what what phone calls gonna come through to the car club, you know, within the next few days.
There's one, actually, yeah. As I was saying that, I was
thinking, I mean, you're often when they get to sort of 2530 years old, you get a wave of different, different models coming through and it's people that have bought them, you know, in their sort of 40s or 50s and hung on to them.
And you know they've now either decided to stop driving for whatever reason and you know the family pulled them out of the garage and they you know in the club and we over the years we've had various incarnations of different, you know, different generations of cars come through at that point.
So sadly there most of the privileges that would fall into that category are probably automatic, which is a bit of a weak link in those, but a 5 speed manual one of those is would be nice and it would be lovely.
There's a guy in the club that's got a third Gen manual in Navajo rig which was the metallic burgundy.
They came in for the 89 model. And that has done.
Might have done 80,000 KS. Hmm.
Now. And The thing is bent absolutely
mint, so you know there's a few still out there.
It's it makes you wonder like how many cars like they get pulled out of you know put out of garage and stuff like that.
Well this is all this is Nana's car and then mint and they just kind of just get sent to The Wreckers like how many just just get go to the records and you'd be like well that would have been a crack up you. Know.
Ask Mr Bunting. He's bought numerous examples of
exactly that. You know, as they've they've
appeared. It popped up at at Centre Rd
Regas and in the yard at the front.
You know, it's incredible. What?
What? What arrives there?
Everything from 2:38 to his. He's 78 skyline that he found
down there. You know I mean it's still with
the dealer sticker on the back window and you know it's yeah I I can't I mean we're all car guys so I mean we can't understand and and and all of us I'm sure have people in extended family and that the contact us about car things because they've you know because we're the car guys.
I can't conceive that there are still people around that don't have car guys in their family that know that well hang on that car is probably worth something to someone sort of thing you know and get in touch with the club that way.
That's how a lot of it happens but that's how I ended up with a. 83 City. When was that was telling me
like she had she had a was an XC Barina Sri was like the the one that one builds car of the year that like.
Yeah. And she said that she saw she
had that for like 5-6 years. No, 6-6 or seven years, she
said. Like, anyway.
She was getting a, she was getting buying another car and she's like, Oh yeah, I just, I just want to go on.
And this is before just like legit.
A couple weeks before I met her she sold it to the records featuring Box and I'm like, I'm like, you realise how much these cars were. She's like, so like all the pain
was going on it and and the rest of the Cubs was really good.
And I'm like, I'm like, oh, we should make you two weeks earlier, you know. I wanted to save you some cash.
You'd be a Verena boy as well too did.
Mate I'll I would I would have been tied up and sold it a bit like yeah I wanna talk to keep it until the crew that that she accrued but that's another story.
But yeah it makes you wonder like how many how many good things just just get just get see you later on and on your way. Um.
But anyway. It's a time for Cryptic cars,
Scotty. It certainly is.
It is back. By popular demand.
I have 10 questions, plus just a bit of a bonus question thrown in there too, so. There is 11 points up for grabs
in this whole quiz. Cryptic cars.
The way it works is I will give you the manufacturer and then I'll give you a. Pool pretty much like a synonym
for for that word of the model of the car.
So for example, he will say like Ford Horse and it could be the Bronco or Mustang. So you got it got.
Really think better. Thank you, Mr Jane.
We. Tyron hasn't played the game
just yet, so I'm just. That's right.
He hasn't, has he? Well, let's.
I'm sure he'll do really, really well.
Some pretty tricky to get the hang of it and you know, kind of what's going on. Alright, I'll be happy with some
more Top Gear questions from last week.
Oht my God that was just. Rob is just shaking his head.
He's like. Nah.
That was just the straight up the Just the Maddie quiz, really. Alright, here we go.
So there's some obscure cars in here, but you know, if you can work out what it could be, the name of it, then be behind in and have a guess. Definitely question one, the
Dodge Bullfighter. David.
David. Matador.
Yes, the dodge. Matador.
Lucky me. Forget about it.
Forget about it. Alright, question 2, the Nissan
block. No.
Matthew. Or like that it would be the
cube. It is.
What you were gonna say? OK, #3 #3 is not so much
synonym, it's just. Um, you just need to put it
together to to answer it, so. Um, it's just kind of oh, how
can I put it all makes sense. Anyway, it all makes sense, but
it's not really synonym the Pontiac.
Bird that is reborn. Alan.
Phoenix. Yeah.
The Pontiac Phoenix. So there's a little bit
different. Couldn't really find a synonym
in that for a phoenix. Really.
So. This just called the Phoenix.
But Scott, check alum myself and David on one apiece.
Everyone's. Game, anyone?
Game, Anyones game as you know. Alright, question 4.
This one is a Honda. Folk tale.
David. Yeah, legend.
Yep, legend. Folk tale is a legend that's
good. I had a couple others to go with
it if we got stuck on the air, like a saga or a myth or something. So.
Had some extras. You're playing Mr. David Prince.
He was. He was never gonna get that
wrong. No.
I'd like to see, as I said, Hyundai, you say oh.
I would be allowed to. I'd be something seriously
wrong. Alright, the next one is a
Hyundai Symphony. Matthew.
Matthew. That'll be the Hyundai Sonata.
Yes, it is Sonata. Yep.
Spot on. Alrighty, question numbers.
I couldn't remember if some of these already done or not.
I can't find my Word document I think.
This stuff has been done is. It has been done.
I had a feeling it could have been.
There might be another one here. We might have done 2.
But. That's.
OK, I couldn't find my Word document I must have put on the hard drive. All right.
Question 6, The Lincoln. Helmsman.
No. Alum Navigator.
Yeah, spot on. Yeah.
Come on. Wow, Alrighty question 7.
Is the Mitsubishi. Gun manufacturer.
So think of all the gun manufacturers, which one do you think has? David.
David. David.
David. OK, David.
Bolt. Yes.
Mitsubishi. The cult, yeah.
All right, question 8. The Ford get out.
Oh. Album.
Escape. Yeah.
Well done, Ellen. I was gonna say that that the
Ford Taurus, because you wouldn't want to be in there, but that's a that's another. Start Ford Escapes.
It's like. All right.
Question nine. And then straight after that
we'll link into the bonus question.
And everybody will have a go at the bonus question.
So I'm not just going to give it to the person that gets this one right. OK, so it's open for everyone.
All right, Question 9 is the Dodge sneakiness.
Matthew. Matthew.
Would be dodge stealth. Yes, the Dodge stealth and that
leads to my bonus question. What Car was this based off?
Of Matthew. Matthew would be a 3000GT.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
So look exactly the same just to dodge badge on it.
The assembly. That leads to my final one,
question 10. I like this one because it's
pretty cute, the Zuzu buddy. David.
David. Just trying to think now, sorry.
No Gemini. No easy Buddy, buddy or friend.
OHS. Alan.
I'm just going for the wrong answer.
They're doing the issues you might.
Might. Does it have a Mexican
connotation to? It oht.
And I would just. Rob.
It would be like amigo. Yeah, Yep.
Azizi amigo. You're welcome.
He could have tell us about this Mexican thing before.
You gave you. He gave you that hint.
He gave up. I made the ohhhhh sound.
Yeah. To try not to give it away.
I'd already guessed. Nobody wins.
It's two weeks away. Thank you, gentlemen.
Tyrone, you didn't like this game, did Joe?
No. Yeah, it's just straight away,
though. I I'd say it takes a bit.
I mean, it took and. Sure does.
It took a bit to get your head around it like a few rounds to get that kind of thinking going on.
It started off a little bit slow and taking a while, but now like Alan's. So much better now, huh?
Everyday and in every way. I've got some stickers to give
you so. Yeah.
You can get a. Good job stickers.
A good job and well done stickers.
And the state of approval by basically.
Yeah. German.
I think that's a podcast. Yeah, this is awesome.
Work. Scotty got through the.
Golf Tip of the wake. It would be trying not to hurt
your back. OK, Yeah. 12.
Months being too hard. Speaking from a bit of advice
wasn't just golf. It was something else too, That
kind of. Destroyed me.
But um, yeah, look after yourself.
Good. David Prince, you do a podcast.
I do. I do when we're getting closer
and closer every day to the second series, which is good.
It's called Auto Retro, and Ed and I talked to people about their car story and the cars of their lives.
It's awesome. And Rob, subrogation?
Crime fighting. Iran fighting.
Fighting. Yeah, yeah.
Friends. Everyday oht Yes, we got crown
fire, don't we? Yeah, recently.
And. Don't call 000, call Rob.
Put it out. I'm sure Rob can do CPR.
CPR I need a refresher, but I've done so.
There we go. That's right.
Don't need a refresher with me. I trust you.
You do CPR to another one. Bites the dust, apparently.
Really. Yeah.
Yeah, because it was staying alive, wasn't it?
Yeah, it was Stay alive. Quite literally.
Someone do it on me to staying alive, than another one bites the dust. Subtle but distinctive.
