Long live my LTD.
Welcome to Car Talk.
It's Shuzanna here in 90.9 Northwest FM.
It's me, Matty J, in the studio with Mr Chad DeBell, who's over there.
Mr David Prince and Mr Scottie Doe Johnson.
How are you, gentlemen?
Doing really well.
Thank you.
Good.
Not bad.
Not bad.
Good size.
Two seconds in.
Good to see you guys.
Big week of cars.
Let's be honest.
Big week of cars.
But I think probably the biggest thing is Scottie getting an exhaust.
But we'll cover that in due course in car updates.
But how are you guys travelling?
What's been happening?
Good.
Very good.
Just the usual, I think.
Yeah, nice.
Just enjoyed the long weekend and I'll talk a little bit about the Grand Prix momentarily.
And nothing else happening this time in a month, mate.
You know, like months out?
No.
Nothing.
Nothing exciting happening April 10.
Just the arguably the most important day of your life.
But anyway, that's a better rock up.
Getting a new car, isn't it?
You better rock up.
Be getting a new car.
Like he's not a Tuesday night.
I know.
Scottie, if it was Tuesday, I would be like, listen, mate, sorry.
You would have been like to Ash.
Hey, Ash, listen.
Commitments.
Yeah, I'll be like, oh, it's seven o'clock.
I'm going to have to step out for a bit.
Yeah.
We're back in an hour.
Just get on Zoom for a bit and then you can go back to it.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
No, looking forward to that big day, Scottie, for you.
Let's start with some car updates.
David Prince, updates with you, my friend.
I've driven lots of things this week and played with lots of
things, done some really interesting jobs on stuff.
What have I?
Joe, took the Grand Prix out on Grand Prix Day.
I thought it was only nice.
Absolutely.
We had a viewing at a member's house in Bar in Peckinham.
So we met at Knox.
Mack is just near Knox Hospital and did a great drive along
some roads up in the Dandenong.
So I've never driven long before.
Could have been in another place, but beautifully scenic roads
on the back of the Dandenong Rages and sort of came into
Peckinham and the Backway Down Army Road, which was fantastic.
The Civic performed beautifully.
I actually signed the book, obviously, because it's on a
club plate.
I think it's been out 10 times in the year.
It's nearly tuned for renewal, but that's great now.
It just starts and off it goes.
It's great little car.
Picked up the LN today.
The exhaust is finally finished.
I think I said in the last podcast it went back because he
wasn't happy with it.
The guy that did it wouldn't have another go and oh my gosh,
it's fantastic.
It's the quietest one I've ever driven.
And those air cooled 360 CC engines are not known for their
quietness, shall we say?
Yeah.
They're written always yellow.
Their NVH is probably not cutting edge.
It was 50 years ago, but not today.
But you can barely hear it driving now.
It's present long in fourth.
It's at 60Ks.
It's happy as a nap.
Did you keep it in third and let it be heard or is that?
Oh, yeah.
There is an element of that.
Such a Northern sovereign state.
Sorry.
It's not as much fun as before it went into the exhaust.
It was like a little mighty mouse then.
It made far more noise than it had in the news.
But no, I like it.
One of those air cooled motors that's quiet is just a thing of
beauty.
It just ticks over beautifully.
So that was really good.
Been driving the Accord a little bit, which has been fine.
Bit of a question mark over the fuel gauge in that having sat for
as long as it had, but it's so I've zeroed it in when I filled
it up and I'm just keeping an eye on that.
But it seems to be working okay.
Maybe it's just sort of like you found with the Camry.
Just as I drive it, it just becomes a bit better and a bit
better.
Yeah.
Enjoying that.
I think that's about it.
I took the N1 out last night.
So I've driven pretty much everything that I've got within
ArmsReach.
A few more cars out of ArmsReach.
I'd like to drive, but you know, that's what next week's for,
isn't it?
Yeah, correct.
Absolutely.
Very good, David Prince.
Scotty, we'll get to you in a second chat.
Updates with you.
Updates with me.
It was a quiet car weekend.
I just obviously did a lot of viewing of motorsports on the
TV and YouTubes.
How good is patina research?
Yeah.
Instagram.
Yeah.
It's good.
It's very good stuff.
What else have I done?
Oops.
Not a lot of car stuff, I'll be honest.
I think I just did a bit of, yeah, just a bit of cleaning on
my wife's car.
That's really about it.
Very quiet on my end, I'll be honest.
Just a lot of house stuff for me this weekend.
I was having a chat with my brother because I've organized
getting you that engine.
Yeah.
And I think the best way to do it is pull both motors.
Just pull everything out and then just have them on the
ground and then just swap.
Back in.
I think that's going to be the best way to go.
So, yeah.
It's easier to move an engine in a gearbox.
Oh, yeah.
I'd like to just try and shove a gearbox underneath.
As we've learned.
As we've learned.
But I'm sure it'll be easier with a manual gearbox.
But still, I think it'll be, maybe just getting both out
because the engine's got to come out of the other one anyway.
The parts car.
Yeah.
Do you know someone that wants it?
Well, not yet, but I'll put it up and look and go for it.
Literally any money is fine.
Like a dollar coin donation.
This could be a gold coin donation car to be honest.
Any part you need is a dollar.
Well, I mean, David Prince is still yet to have his pick
through that car.
Absolutely.
Yes, I am.
But there's with the with the the Wags.
It's pretty good.
The air con system, David Prince, the air con system.
Yeah, there's the air con.
But, you know, it's got to be the character like the does the hole in the dash.
The hole in the dash car, isn't it?
We can cover up the hole at least with a dummy switch into maybe.
Because every time I drive that car, I just kept looking over.
I just wanted to like just poke that.
Stick your finger in it.
Yeah.
It's one of those.
Yeah.
It's like it's like a black hole in the middle of the dash.
It's an attention.
It does.
I don't know why it absolutely does.
It's an abyss.
Yeah.
So we can put a switch in it if you like.
That'll run you a whole some amount of money of zero dollars.
No, no, no.
Gold coin.
I can I can detonate it.
Wow.
That's how we confuse them.
Friends and family discount.
Is it got in it?
Has it got the factory one?
Maybe.
I just threw out my old factory one, but it was only a two channel speaker, two channel radio.
So it wasn't good for anything.
And it was locked anyway.
So I couldn't, couldn't use it.
Yeah.
That's why you couldn't use it on your own.
I couldn't use it because it was locked.
Yeah.
I couldn't find a code for it.
And I just ended up putting in a Sony head unit.
But I'll have a look David.
I'm not a hundred percent sure, but it's an executive.
So it can't be that special or anything.
Right.
Like it's a technically as is too.
So, you know, but it's got a Sony CD player in it.
At least it's blackface.
I can't stand it when they put those silver faced one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So at least it's blackfaced one, but it's.
I'll send it.
I'll send you whatever it is and you can decide if you want it or not, or it can go to the skip.
Yeah.
It's just on that.
I actually found myself in a salvo store today.
And sitting on the shelf was a brand new set of two, five and a half inch Alpine speakers.
Oh, no.
Back in the day.
Back in the day.
Old school.
Absolutely.
Never been out of the box.
They're perfect.
Tell me you bought them.
Four dollars.
Oh my goodness.
Four dollars.
Are they like a modern Alpine speaker as well?
No.
I reckon they'd be 90s maybe.
That'd be so period correct.
Love that.
That's really cool.
You've got to put that in the car, David.
You've got to put that in the car.
Well, two of the cars I've been driving recently, the Accord that sat for so long and my scamper
I've been using one of the things you stick in the secret red light.
It gives you Bluetooth and all that.
So I've been streaming music through it.
And the speakers in the scamper, you know, are only 30 years old, so I don't know what's wrong.
You know, that's ridiculous.
30 years.
They're not made to last these things these days.
So I had two cars.
I figured I don't even know if they're five and a half inch speakers in those cars, but
I'm going to take those speakers home with me.
Absolutely.
Accord maybe, but I don't even know.
I know like the dash speakers are four inch.
Four inch.
Yeah.
We sell four inches.
That's super cheap.
Yeah.
The Magnus OK.
The Magnus got focal speakers in it.
A focal speaker sticker on the window.
What?
Focal the brand?
What?
Yeah.
Hell yeah.
There's a factory.
No.
They would have been aftermarket.
Yeah.
Nice.
Yeah.
I've always said like I've changed the speakers.
Like, OK, it's, you know,
Make some massive.
Oh, just like, and you can't even tell when they're behind a grill anyway.
You can't.
Yeah.
Oh, no, I'm all for upgrading them if they're going to be.
Oh, it's like, like the Camry's front speakers were so popped.
Yeah.
You know, like it was, I was just, I had faith in it all the way to the back.
And when I changed the front ones to the Kiko's, the Kiko's I got.
Oh, God.
No.
So David, if you need help changing the speakers, I'm happy to do.
I live for that stuff.
So that's.
Speakers.
Yeah.
Speakers.
Speakers.
Yeah.
Muddy.
Muddy's already installs.
You need Strathfield car radio when you got Muddy J.
Oh, man.
Do you want me to thank you, Mark?
Yeah.
My gym in Broad Meadows used to be where Strathfield was.
Yeah.
Every time I go in there, I'm like, man, I remember this was Strathfield.
There's still a creditor in my accounting system.
Really?
Yeah.
They owe me money.
They owe me money from about 35 years ago.
Oh, you had to write that off as a bad debt.
Yeah.
It must get around to doing that.
All of it.
I think it's cute to have it there for nostalgia.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Absolutely.
It's quite funny.
We also jump by Rob.
How are you Rob?
Good.
Thank you.
Rob.
Good, mate.
Good to see you.
It's been a while.
Yeah.
Well, just work and life.
Yeah.
It'll get you.
Good to see you.
We're just in car updates.
Charles just finished his updates.
Yeah.
So we're prepping for the swap, the manual swap in that vehicle.
So yeah.
Updates.
Rob, because Scotty's got an exciting one, but we'll get to Rob.
Rob, updates with you.
No progress on the SEC.
Yeah.
Yep.
It's been undercoded, but part thereof, not all of it.
So that's still sitting there.
Really just taking the Sadies for a bit of a drive, just ticking
over.
Yeah.
E30, yeah, started that up as well.
They're all going fine.
I've got to get the F100 out.
That's my next job.
But still working on the transit.
So I fixed it.
I found a rattle.
Where was it?
Believe it or not, when I last took in for a service, they moved
the seat.
The seat wasn't clicked in properly, was it?
Oh, really?
Every time he went over a bump, the spring or the tension was
rattling away and it sounded like it was coming from the door,
the door card.
I pulled the door card apart, pulled the back panels off.
And then I go, I'm at me ends.
I don't know what's going on here.
So driving down the street, the door opens.
Still hear it.
And then closing the door and whatnot.
So then I moved it just to the seat and clicked it in.
Gone.
I'm not joking.
Oh, no.
So Rob, so we can tell Chad to tell his uncle that if he finds
ruttles in, just to move the seats forward in the transit,
hopefully that's all the seats.
And it's not the diff.
And it's not the diff.
Chad's uncle's diffs.
Look, the diff's better, believe it or not.
I think it's bedding in.
It's actually quiet now.
They're good, OK.
So what have they done?
Is it quieting down or is it, or are you just going a bit more
deaf because of the noise and you're not noticing?
Since then I put in a glass window down the side of it.
I'm going to cut in the van top.
So I'm going to, I'm just going to use it.
You're all in there, Rob.
You're all in.
I'm all in.
I'm all in with my van.
You're not as well.
I mean, at this point, like you've had it and you've
barely been able to enjoy it.
Yeah, I know.
I'm not as well.
Two years of it.
It's really disappointing.
It's crazy.
Yeah.
What are you doing, Ford?
Yeah, what are you doing?
Oh, yeah.
Well, they're not helping.
That's for sure.
Well, look, insane.
They replaced the diff.
They replaced the wheel bearings and the diff.
They replaced the steering rack.
You know, I was in there for three months when the
oxygen sensors and the crank piston positioning sensor
went on it.
So I didn't say, you know, out of the last two years,
I was in the dealerships for at least six months.
I know.
So, but, you know, it's okay.
There's nothing wrong with it.
So it's better.
It is better.
I should give it the benefit of the doubt and trust it.
I still think it would have been reliable either way.
I mean, it's just unbearable.
Yeah.
But yeah.
So I got some fly screens in.
I've done my first camp out a couple of weeks ago at
Lake Appalach with it.
So I'm enjoying it.
Okay.
That's good.
I'm glad.
It's a happy kind of story.
So when we last heard about the transit.
That's about it for my car updates.
Sounds good.
We also joined by Jim Barlow.
How are you, Jim?
Hello, everyone.
How are we?
Good, mate.
Good to see you.
Yeah, it's good to see everybody as well.
We're just in car updates.
So we'll get to you, Jim.
Car updates with you.
I'm not really sure I've got that many.
I was able to, I think since I was last on.
I went to Pedders to have the Magna looked at to try and
figure out what was causing it to sort of feel like half the
car wanted to divorce the other side of the car.
And most of the things that they listed, which had nothing to
do with that were very minor and could be done down the
track, but they identified that one of the control blades,
there was a bolt that was missing a nut.
And I was just about to go on a drive the weekend after.
So they put a nut on and it no longer feels like it's trying
to disembowel itself at speed.
That's a win.
How is that not picked up during roadworthy?
I don't know.
Very good question.
Yeah.
I mean, you know, it wasn't like, I didn't have enough time with the car.
So anyway, so it feels a lot safer.
Yeah, I think that's about all of my updates that are
interesting at this date.
Very good.
We get to Scotty.
Scotty, I saw you on Sunday.
Yeah, for a brief moment.
It was, but I do greatly appreciate it.
So drop off the exhaust.
So I, it was called Uber's Uber exhaust.
Oh, so that's.
And it was.
It fitted so neatly in the back of the MR2 as well.
And that's why I said to you, I'm like, if you don't come and get this,
where did you fit it in the back boot?
It fit perfectly.
It was perfect fit.
Man, it was made for it.
It was just, it was just meant to be the way it fitted in there.
So I took that off his hands and watched the Grand Prix on the Sunday,
which I'll go back and talk about in a moment because I went on Saturday
and put that on.
Didn't take too long.
It was actually very easy to fit.
That would have been just direct bolt on, bolt off, right?
Yeah.
I just had to source some nuts because the exhaust that I had on it
was like welded nut already on there.
So you just need the bolt and the bolt just thread straight through.
So this one, I just need some nuts and I've got a washer as well to go with it
just to make it nicer.
So that, that was easy and started her up and it's still quiet,
but it's just got a nice little deeper note to it now
until you put your foot down while driving.
If you sit there and just free rev it, not that much.
That's the same with the intake as well.
But when you're actually driving and get on it, you do hear.
So underload it comes alive?
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
The exhaust and the intake come alive.
I took it around the block of Mexico yesterday
and tore it, screamed and got to certain speeds quicker than I could think of.
Yeah.
So yeah.
Does it feel, does it feel nippy?
Yeah.
The stupid traction control keeps kicking in all the time.
Yeah.
So I might need your expertise, Mr. Matthew.
I've got the whole guide and everything set out,
but when it comes to electrical stuff,
I know you're pretty good at that and I'm terrible.
Yeah.
We can give it a go.
So if it was, yeah, it's just about getting a wire and turning it into like a pin
so it can go into a spot, into a slot,
and then taking it around to my switch that I've got
and we just got to put that as and ground it off as well.
And then that's it.
That's easy to do.
Yeah.
So we just need to do that and then it will work beautifully.
Nice.
So is this the disabled traction control?
Yeah.
So you can turn it on.
For the skids.
Oh, yes.
For the skids.
Yeah.
So I can turn that one off.
I washed the blade.
I did that yesterday.
There you go, Jimbello.
Yeah.
Gave that a wash.
And also I washed the note as well.
I washed and waxed it because it had no protectant.
I could tell by touching it.
You know that squeaky feeling on it.
You're like, ah, there's nothing on it.
It's never been waxed or polished.
And so I did that as well.
That was a pain in the butt because I only usually have the energy to wash one car.
But multiple is really pushing it.
So I washed two cars and then after that, waxing it too.
Happy days.
They come up really, really nice though.
So at least I'm happy that when it's out there in the sun, it's a little bit more protected
and the paint's a bit more protected.
Wasn't an awesome job.
If I want to do an awesome job, it needs a good clay barring.
So that's that.
Oh, I fixed up the blades intake.
So that's done properly now.
I removed the bottom box.
So it's not just sitting there and flapping about like I originally had it done.
It's on there properly.
It's got the little piece of metal bracket to attach bracket.
It's the word I'm looking for.
So it's got the bracket and that's all attached.
So it's all better now and done properly.
And then I accidentally unplugged the plug and didn't plug it back in.
And it was to do with the, I don't know, it's not even really being used anymore.
It goes into the air box, but it's an air bleed circulator valve.
Some crap it's called.
And I thought I'll try with disconnected and I've got to connect it back on.
So I came up with an error that kept flashing the whole time.
No matter what, even when I plugged it back in, the error was still there and kept flashing on.
Luckily, I'm a bit of a nerd and I've got my OBD2 reader and my old laptop with the Toyota program on there that I plugged that in and ran that program.
And I was able to turn that off.
Nice.
I deleted that error and now it doesn't come up anymore.
So no more danger to manifold.
Yep.
So that's all gone.
So that's good.
And then, yeah, so that's it with that kind of car stuff on Saturday was the big day and that was off to the Grand Prix on the Saturday.
Just general admission because I don't have deep pockets and they try and get a grandstand ticket.
You've got to be super quick.
They disappear so fast.
I must say the way the layouts changed around around the track.
There is more grandstands around.
There's even an extra grandstand patio thing that they put near our spot that we always sit at.
That was a bit annoying and kind of took the spot, but they've made some more like gravel paths and things around make it easy to get to.
A few more things to do off the track when you're not watching plenty of vendors.
I was surprised when I went on Thursday.
There was everywhere.
Yeah.
So there was no no lines or anything like that.
It was pretty good spread out well.
They even had like merchandise stores outside the track too.
So you didn't have to even go in if you wanted to get some of the merch.
There's some good races.
Formula 3s was really interesting to watch.
BHC because as usual, I was really hyped for the qualifying, which is very interesting and seeing how Mercedes ended up going with these new generation of cars.
So that was that was very interesting.
Very quick.
Yeah, very, very quick.
So that was cool to see.
And then after that, most people leave straight after that qualifying.
They don't stick around for the V8 supercars.
So we stick around and watch those and then leave after that.
We don't watch the Porsche Carrera Cup.
So that's the only one I don't watch.
But I stick around for everything else.
So there was there were some delays and things because of some crashes into barriers.
There's a huge one in.
I can't remember if it was Formula 3 or Formula 2.
It was both team drivers.
One was I think one was Aussie in ones New Zealander and they both smashed into each other and just wiped each other out.
Like it was pretty big crash.
So that would be an interesting talk that they'd have to have as a racing team.
But yeah, that was that was interesting.
I think there's anything else I missed.
V8 supercars is always good as usual to watch.
It's good to see the Supra.
Yeah, he has quite a few out there.
So I think there's about three or four racing.
So they're nice, nice and close racing happening there.
Yeah, I think race day for Formula 1 was interesting.
It was very, very close at the beginning.
A lot of overtaking happening.
And then all of a sudden, nothing.
It just all of a sudden changed.
No one had battery power at all.
Ferrari know how to take off off the line.
I think they're using smaller turbo or something and that's helping them to get off the line at the starting grid.
And if you watch the starting grid from that race, they launched.
Lou, like Leclerc was gone.
He got into first, yeah, what first place in no time.
Mercedes just bogged down.
But unfortunately, yeah, their cars are just a lot quicker overall and Ferrari just still don't know how to strategize.
Their strategy is terrible.
Who would have thought you can change the cars?
You can change the rules.
You can't change Ferrari.
Yeah, exactly.
I don't know what they're thinking.
To not pet during that virtual safety car boggles the mind.
Mercedes already too fast and they thought, no, just keep them out.
Like, come on, they should at least pitted one.
Even Hamilton said, should at least pitted one of us.
Yeah, so the battery powers, they're running out pretty early.
You know, they can't even go along a straight and we don't really have a long straight here.
So imagine Monza or well, they probably won't be able to go to Baku, but you know, at Monza with their straight is going to be out of puff in no time.
And if you don't have that power unit going at that time, you're down about 50 to 60 kilometers an hour at full throttle.
It's a big difference.
You're losing so much.
Yeah, I still don't get why it's even needed.
But anyway, that's that's not.
Yeah.
And then you got Verstappen driver of the day from 20 to 20 to six.
Yeah, crazy.
Blocks of freak.
Like, absolute freak.
Alien.
Yeah.
If he's, if his battery unit was working a bit better at the end, he would have got Lando Norris, but it just wouldn't stay charged.
Couldn't get it charged enough.
So it kept dropping all the time and heaps of people going around after the warm up lap and lining back up, their batteries went charged.
So they couldn't take off fast enough or get to any kind of speed.
So a lot of drama.
There's quite a few fixes that hopefully they'll do.
Yeah, but if we can keep the way it was at the very beginning, yeah, a lot of close racing, especially at the front there with George Russell and Leclerre.
That was really, really, really, really good to see if we can keep it around about that would be awesome.
But you're competing with Mercedes.
And that's the Martin.
I don't know what they're going to do.
Gosh, feel sorry for them.
They're going to be worse than as ever was, I think at this rate.
Yeah, if they can fix it.
Yeah, I know.
A lot to fix.
Come on, Honda.
But it looks like one of them finished at least.
I mean, that was not expected.
Yeah, was he 12 laps behind?
Alonzo never started and then he just came into the race out of nowhere.
So what is going on?
He retired twice, essentially.
He just was after the participation.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
When the Red Bull car expired, all the memes were like, it's like,
Oh, brilliant.
The Ford engines are doing well.
Yeah, they're fine.
It was funny though.
No, it was interesting.
So it's good that you've given your analysis.
I've read something interesting about the whole Aston Martin thing.
And some people think, I mean, this is probably a little bit tin foil hat.
Scotty, conspiracy, put your tin foil hat on.
Yeah, some people think that Adrian Newey has actually built the car
to what they, what he thinks the rules are going to change to this year,
like later in the year, because everyone sort of think, well, not everyone,
but some people are thinking the rules are too harsh
or maybe they're too lenient and they're going to like reel it in a little bit.
And now they're thinking like Adrian Newey has like been one step ahead the whole time.
So he's playing chess while everyone's playing chess.
Yeah, he's playing 5D.
He's got 4D chess.
He's playing 5D chess.
Just want to sort out that people might have a think about it.
So yeah, that's all.
Yeah, cheers.
We'll see what happens.
We'll see what happens.
So watch this space.
Let's see if he's been playing chess while we're playing checkers.
So good to know, Scotty.
We're also joined by Mr. Turbo Terry Anthony Fowler.
How are you doing, mate?
Yeah, not too bad.
The boys, how are you all doing?
Very nice.
Apologies for not having the video going on just at the tail
end of putting dinner together.
I don't think you guys want to see me cooking.
No, that's fair enough.
Don't worry.
Just tell us what you're cooking.
Yeah, what are you cooking, Anthony?
I've gone on.
I use the rice cooker.
Jackson, some Japanese rice together.
I've got some karagi, gokara, and you sort of say chicken.
I've done a Japanese curry.
Oh, that sounds very good.
Yeah, you've got us all.
I thought that was a good chance.
I might just do a zoom out and look at the finished product.
I'm just currently sorting out the source ratio.
What's the lean out of the caprio meme from Django?
You had something there.
You got my attention.
It's just like what you said.
You can never go wrong with just some of the staples.
Absolutely not.
Yeah, but no, going pretty good.
Going good, mate.
You've got a massive update for us.
I do.
I do.
There has been a little bit of progress over the last two weeks.
There's been a new purchase.
That's promising.
Yeah.
So there is a new daily has been added to the mix of things.
And it's not your normal sort of daily.
Not the sort of daily you would sort of expect for the show.
We're not talking old.
We're not talking vintage.
We're talking a bit of new school.
It is not an X3 as I had previously discussed.
And I have got myself a 2020 Volvo X.
So Volvo T8.
Whole Star Edition.
XC 60.
Oh, cool.
Awesome.
So something a little bit different.
That's a twin charge one, right?
Yeah, twin charger.
It is.
It is.
So it's a two liter four cylinder turbo supercharged plug-in
fiber.
Oh, Jesus.
All of those things are rockets.
5.2 seconds to 100.
That's a quick lazy car.
So the specs on it, as I said, 5.2 seconds to 130 out of it.
The electric battery, it's not so much as like you.
Well, I mean, it doesn't see improve your economy and everything
else like that in it too.
But it's not long range or anything like that.
So the battery charge gets you about 35Ks out of it.
But predominantly how it's utilized is for performance.
So if you flick it over to the sports mode, Polster mode,
whatever you would sort of want to call it, it then becomes
a little drive setup.
The rear wheels are then focused through the electric engine.
But otherwise you then have front wheel drive, predominantly
your sort of the petrol engine when it sort of kicks in.
But you can obviously chop and change and how you utilize it
and sort of what you sort of do.
But yeah, that's the new addition.
I'll pop a couple of photos for you guys up in the chat
so you can have a look at it.
Super cool.
Yeah, that's the new addition.
So the car was good, but I think you mentioned the buying
experience was not.
Oh, the buying experience was absolutely falling.
And that's to say the absolute least of all things I would not.
If it wasn't for the car and the car being the only one
to sale a dealership in Victoria, I would not afford it.
So initially, you know, call the dealership beforehand,
you know, get the courtesy sort of thing to make sure the car
was still there that was available.
Nobody had gone down and checked it out.
The same day.
So I'll bring you back to that.
So I went to check out the E43 Mercwagen in a mix of things
and was a little bit disappointed by that.
I was expecting a little bit more for a Merc.
Performance was good, you know, size was good,
but it was just lacking something internally.
So put that one car and then yeah, called up the dealership.
It was about 20 minutes away from the Merc.
So I thought already on this side of town,
I'll go have a look and see what I'm sort of think.
And yeah, called up the dealership, went down there,
spoke to him and get down there initially.
I'm not addressed to the sort of maybe the clientele
they would sort of expect there because it was at a
technically Brighton Volkswagen dealership.
You know, I was there in Jesus Sandals and you know,
Bob's Burger T-shirt and all the other sorts of things.
But yeah, so get out there, have a chat with the guy
and he goes and wanders off, you know, leaves me to the car
and starts dealing with another customer.
You know, that's the first start and you know,
walk up to him and you know, get the license out.
Cool man, look, I'm interested in the car.
I want to go take a protest drive, get an idea about sort of
what the car's like and everything else like that.
It's like, oh look, you know, we don't just let people come in
and take the cars for test drives.
You know, unless you're basically ready to buy the car today.
Well, I'm interested in the car.
I've driven and how to get here.
I called you guys in advance.
You're a V-dub dealership and I've called out about a very
obscure Volvo of all things.
Pretty sure that if I like it, I'm probably going to buy it.
It's like, oh yeah, now look, you know, the price is the price
unless you're willing to buy the car as is at that price point.
And you're good to go today.
You're not taking the car for a test drive.
And the missus overheard this and she absolutely lost her shit.
And you know, rightfully so.
Yeah.
We were basically ready to, you know, walk off on this guy
after his attitude.
Mind you, I'm sort of up into minds what to do
because this is again, the only one that I can take
for a test drive in Vic.
So, you know, I sort of suck it up a little bit,
but the mother and Laura and Jess ended up, you know,
as they do, they bounce off each other very, very well.
So I ended up to the manager who was on at that sort of time
and basically lost their shit at him.
And he was on damage control and was just like,
all right, no worries, we'll get you a car.
Take for a drive, so you think.
And of course, you know, as it is, you're taking for a spin
and ticks all the boxes and what you sort of after it's got,
you know, a lot more kick down than the T6.
It's got the acceleration.
It's got the upgraded brakes.
It's got the strap race across the front.
It's got the all ones adjustable dampening suspension in it.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's got upgraded more bolstered seats in there as well.
Polster edition and the, the speakers,
I think it's like a 19 speaker,
Bang and Olsen sound system through it.
It's just ridiculous.
Like it's got speakers in the roof of all things.
And it's just unfortunately just ticked all the boxes
and I hated how much I liked the car because I knew I had to
go back and start dealing with it.
So we get back to the dealership, you know,
we've already sort of in the car and you know,
I formulated a bit of a plan.
There was a fair bit of gutter action on the rims,
like on the front facing because they're 21 inch.
Apparently like hand forged,
Polster edition rims that are ridiculous to come across.
And as soon as we get out of the car,
we make mention of it and that salesman's just like,
oh yeah, they're going to cost you 250 bucks a rim to basically
have them refinished and redone because they're, you know,
whatever alloy and all that other sorts of stuff.
And just as it's like, oh no, no, we won't be paying for that,
but we're not going to be dealing with you anyway.
We're going to be going straight to the manager,
basically dealing with him going forward.
We have a little bit of back and forth with the manager in the
end and you know, come to your agreements of everything.
But yeah, initially he was just like, you know,
I'm just not convinced that you're going to buy the car.
So you're not taking it for a test drive was what this salesman
was quoting what he said to us to go up to the extent that
came to an agreement and decided to buy the car.
And we're in there doing the paperwork and you know,
he's on apologetic and being like, you know,
really sorry about how it was, what's sort of gone on and
just being Jess and you know,
has to poke the bear a little bit and she's been,
you know, comes out with a comment.
So are you convinced whether we're ready to buy the car yet or not?
You know, we're in here doing the paperwork.
And then what's he sort of sort of in game?
I would have been like, make sure this guy doesn't get the commission.
Oh, no, we absolutely said that.
So the reception is she was on massive damage control.
It was probably much from the block that she ended up basically
being a large chunk of the reason why we sort of stayed.
And we said to the manager guy, anybody's getting the commission.
It's not him.
They have sort of been carrying on behaving.
Your reception should be getting the commission for this one here.
Yeah. So that, that was sort of that part there.
I've signed the paperwork.
I confirmed whether there was two keys or one key and then we're
going to check before we left and all of a sudden there was only one key.
And he'd be like, oh, again, look, we'll contact the previous owner and
if they've got it, we'll get that sorted.
But otherwise, you know, we'll, we'll contact Volvo and whatever the
cost price is for the second key, we'll pass that on to you.
So the thing Anthony, so very nice vehicle you've got.
And that's the food just for you boys as well.
It's not very well.
Yeah, very good.
Very good.
So yeah, so you've done the paperwork.
Jess organized pretty much to get the wheels done from like, you know,
part of the deal.
Yeah.
So we managed to get the three months.
We drove away price wheels getting refinished and redone.
And that was pretty much what the, what the deal was.
Came back and was he said, yep.
It's on the paperwork.
It was meant to be two keys.
There was only one.
They said that contact the previous owner.
And then they'll also contact Volvo to work out what the trade cost
price is.
I guess you would sort of say having a key redone and that let me know.
And they didn't let me know that initial thing.
Now, the Volvo is black.
I decided I would get like Euro plates on the car too,
for good measure, which just rounded out really well.
But dealership didn't have any black plates.
So I did a whole lot of running around and managed to find some of the big roads
and let the dealership know, you know, like a week in advance,
they've got Euro plates that, you know, bring them down and everything else
like that will be sorted.
Come Saturday, go and pick up the car.
And the red joe plate brackets to a standard red joe plate.
There was initially a Queensland vehicle,
but I mean, it was still to a standard Queensland vehicle registration plate
size and didn't fit the Euro plate.
Well, this is a great start to everything we said and done.
Obviously you sorted nothing out with the key in the end.
You know, just as you would sort of expect,
just basically everything going really as you would think it would.
Anyway, we go in and talk to the finance manager
and get everything all sorted finalizing the final payment.
And he's genuinely just like, you know, how's your guys experience been?
What's been happening?
And we just look at him and just like,
are you wanting us to be genuine and honest about this?
Or what do you want us to sort of say?
And he could tell that he was actually genuine about,
like, interest into what sort of happens.
Like, just tell me what's actually going on.
And we basically just absolutely unload to him.
And he ends up getting halfway through and calling in
one of his other managers across.
And we basically close the office door
and basically go through everything, which is unfolded.
And he was just like, you can't be serious.
You can't be serious.
How is this even basically unfolded or got this sort of point?
But seemingly he is a bit of the problem,
problem child in this dealership
and they themselves have issues with him as well.
So we just previously had a schmick service,
which if you have, you know,
like having a minor scratches or dings
or got a restaurant in your rims or anything else like that.
Basically it's a membership where you pay 50 bucks
and somebody comes out and repairs these minor damages
and confections without doing an insurance job.
So I was really handy on justice car.
So I thought, again, buying a new car
and being sort of what the Volvo is
and a black car at that that would probably be beneficial.
And we're like, oh, you know, out of curiosity,
how much is a two-year plan, three-year plan?
And Jess was just joking.
It would be like, look after our sort of experiences
or any chance you could throw it in,
like completely just joking about it.
And he comes back to it like legitimately after that experience
and what you basically gone through with us.
I'm throwing in a five-year schmick package.
It's pretty good.
So that was roughly ballpark, probably like 1500 bucks.
So it's funny, I think it's like, you know,
it's not quite an establishment's fault.
It's more certain people in an establishment
and they can give you a bad name.
And I think that's what's happened here.
Oh, absolutely.
Like he was the reason why a place would have a bad name.
Like no shadow of a doubt he would be the problem.
I'm not the sort of person to leave a review,
but after the experience that we basically got as a result
of this one here, I am so tempted
and the very high chance I still will
of leaving the most scathing possible review about the new ship
and basically outlining the only reason why I followed through
was because of the car.
Nothing to do with your sales.
Yeah, but we'll sort of see what happens.
But the other manager took off all even notes.
She was going to escalate it to the owner of the dealership.
And we should get a phone call at some point this week
when she has her general manager's meeting
with the other colleagues about sort of the behavior,
the mannerisms and everything has basically unfolded.
So we'll see what happens.
Like in all honesty, it did at least make me feel better
that somebody recognized the problem that was going on.
And you know, the five year plan is a great addition.
I think what would round it out would be this key issue is sorted
because when I've contacted Volvo directly
to work at how much a key would cost to get cut
of the key fob key and reprogramming
ballpark you'll need about 700 bucks
for the genuine ones.
There's a few other key cutting guys who have sort of contacted
they apparently use genuine parts as well.
But they're still coming in at about 500 bucks.
I mean, you still it's still an extra addition.
But the other roll on from everything.
So I finished up with the dealership,
finished up with the other team after they've looked after us a bit
and I've then had to go and do a whole lot of calling around
to try and find any automotive store that basically sells
Europe plate brackets, super cheap.
Unfortunately, don't have any.
They've only got the colors.
Retco didn't have any in auto barn.
See me was the only one that had any
or anywhere where you could actually buy a retail.
The fun part was is that the closest one that had it in stock
was Nari Warren.
Geez.
Yeah, yeah, very close.
So I drove all the way out to Nari Warren.
The sales clerk there was, you know,
because then in the package,
it looked like there was two brackets that were in there.
Unfortunately, I was only one.
Yeah.
So I was I was not happy with that.
Yeah.
So it wasn't a good experience.
No, it wasn't a good experience.
And then to finalize on the experience itself.
So I went to Nari Warren,
picked up one bracket,
was luckily doing and helping out one of Justin's friends,
and the Marevan auto barn had one in stock,
which was 10 minutes away.
So I was at least able to get by front and rear,
radio plate brackets.
But the fun part was is that was 60 bucks.
That was not 120 bucks.
It should have been sorted out by the dealership in the end.
But again, just just leaves that sort of sale taste
and you may have the whole experience.
But that was the unfoldings of purchasing the new vehicle.
So besides that, how is the car?
Other than that, the car is delightful.
Again, ticks all the boxes so far.
It's a lot better in economy than the territory.
I think at the moment,
I'm averaging a bit over eight liters per hundred out of it.
It's pretty good.
I've done the fully charged versus 240 volts.
Plug in EV sort of plug points.
So it's only only small battery.
I think in four hours,
it gets you that the full charge was about 35 Ks,
which is fine.
You know, I think it works out to financially cost
on the energy plan, probably about like four bucks.
It's not bad.
Yeah, which is that's okay.
It's not amazing.
Not terrible.
It's probably comparable to fuel.
But I'm now able to drive to and from work just in EV mode
and doesn't have any impact then on my fuel consumption.
That's pretty cool.
Which is a handy little thing,
only just for a little plodding around or worse cases,
you chuck it in the full charge mode
and it does have regen braking on you too.
So it does charge in its own sort of way too.
I mean, how long is your commute?
Not very far.
It takes me about three to four minutes
from turning my car on to parking.
I can't walk.
Really, I could just walk.
I think I've done that three.
It does.
I've done that three times and it's taking me about 15 minutes.
But yeah, here we are.
Yeah.
That's funny.
But yeah.
Congratulations, mate.
That's awesome.
That's that.
No, much appreciate it.
I'll chuck a couple of pics in the chat for you guys
to at least have a bit of a geese.
We'll do this, please.
Congrats, mate.
That's awesome.
So that's your updates, Anthony?
That's my updates.
The only other small thing at the moment,
and I say at the moment for a specific reason,
is I've obviously got the crown.
I still got the territory,
but I do need to re-evaluate all of the cars
that I do currently have.
So I did decide for now to list the territory up for sale
very, very, very reluctantly.
But that's more up to a little bit of external influence
and sort of being pushing that.
I mean, the territory has a lot of cosmetic problems.
It would be from the closed-door re-spray.
The roof lining is now sagging again.
The air conditioner is stuck on holds.
I'm pretty sure one of the flappy parts at the back
is basically chosen to stay solid
and not really doing too much.
I think the timing case seal has just started to leak at the moment.
So again, handful of small things,
but nothing crazy.
But it's just things that add up.
So for the moment, I've decided to pop it up
for like $13.5, which is the cheapest territory
to have over the sale in Victoria.
The next one, I think, is like $17,000 with $300,000,
whereas mine's at $220,000.
And the next one is $19,000 with just $200,000.
So it's factoring in the cosmetic issues.
It's still significantly cheaper than everything else,
and especially given that mine's modified, too.
But in saying that now that I've been in the XC60,
Jess is now very inclined to upgrade her car.
So she wants to get an XC90,
because she's all for the big cars and everything else.
Just to make sure you don't go back to that dealership, Anthony.
Oh, no, God, no.
We can pick up XC90s pretty comfortably,
whether it be an artisan or an inscription
or something like that.
But we'll definitely not be going back to that dealership.
What's your job in car, Anthony?
She's in the Everest.
She's in the Bicep Everest.
She's had that for probably like $60,000.
Trend specs, so it's got nice functions, seven-seater.
All the family that we have that we get in the one car,
even though there's only three of us.
So she's looking at that and there's a little bit of a compromise,
I guess you would sort of say.
She has conceded that she would consider keeping the territory
if she got an XC90.
Interesting.
Exactly.
So now I'm like, I can almost suck that up a little bit,
make this work and get rid of the Everest,
have a small changeover,
but we keep the territory as the workforce and the token.
Yeah, good idea.
Yeah, so at the moment, that's more favorable.
Initially thought I'd be okay with moving the territory on,
but as soon as I pressed that post,
it was like, oh, this actually feels sad.
And I can see myself in, you know, five, ten years time
keeping myself that I got rid of the baron.
Because it has been a, for the most part, a faultless car,
other than having the water pump go and I brought the truck down.
It's okay.
But that was the original water pump that was in the 220,000 cars.
Yeah, it's pretty good.
The only thing that I'm not sad about and I'm fine to move on
is going to be the cram and all of the copious amounts of car parts.
But the fun part is they need to get somebody who's going to be
interested in looking into an 84 single overhead crown
with copious amounts of car parts.
But I mean, how many of that are going to be getting around
that has the original receipt from the day that it was purchased?
Yeah, this is also true.
We'll see.
We'll see.
What's the space?
Just when you do get an XC90, Anthony there,
make sure you get the air conditioning checked out
because there's a common fault.
Yes.
A friend of mine had to get his coils replaced recently
and that the fix up, yeah,
get it all fixed up so it doesn't happen again.
But it's very common.
Do you know what year his is?
His is fairly new, like 2023 model.
Okay.
Yeah.
I know that in the early generations,
like the 2016 to 2018 generations,
there was a lot more problematic than the newer generations.
But yeah, definitely.
There's any sort of recalls or anything like that.
And it would definitely be a big deal.
I think there's two that I've managed to find so far that have one was
I think 60,000 K's on it.
That the artisan is a 2019 in T6.
And then there was a D5 that was,
I think it had 80,000 K's on something like that again, 2019.
But that was an inscription.
But yeah, I'll need to start setting the difference between the two
because the artisan is meant to be more sporty orientated,
whereas the inscription is meant to be more luxury
where it's got the air suspension and the cool seats and things like that.
So it's a matter of there's definitely going to be a difference
in driving both of them.
Yeah.
I think I think definitely figure that out Anthony as you go.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But no, that's a crash course in the last little bit.
Yeah.
Well, I'm happy that you got the car.
I'm happy that you had that experience, but it's a, you know, it's, I guess,
it's worked in our favor the experience.
Yeah.
I think I guess we will say.
Yeah, absolutely.
Moving on to tonight's topic gentlemen of we discussed this last week.
So update with you.
Yeah.
That's updates with me.
I'm conscious of time.
So we'll quickly squeeze in your M2 one.
Yeah.
I put my retractable fog lights on the M2.
Very cool.
Very 80s.
Very 80s.
Scotty, Scotty saw them.
He's the first one to see them in person.
Nice.
They look really good.
So they go up with the button.
They go ding and then the lights come on.
But then when you turn them off, they don't go back down.
So I was crushing my head.
I'm like, what's going on?
Like, why is this, you know, like the lamps go off and everything.
Anyway.
So David's lovely son, Mitchell, who is the GDM parts extraordinaire who I got,
who I got these off messages to him.
And we've been talking the last few days and he's like, yeah, you know,
it's a, it's a tricky thing to, to get right.
Cause I've never done one of these, but I've done plenty of driving lights on,
you know, light bars and stuff.
So like wide up the exact same way and it works flawlessly.
But I need to do a, he said, a switching ground.
So I need to put another relay in and tap into the wiring and, um,
and he kind of drew it out for me, which is really cool.
So that'll be something I'll do in the next little bit to get it,
to get it to come back down.
It's two way switch.
Yeah.
The fog light as you click it in and then you have to click it off.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So you've got two circuits working.
Correct.
So he's like, when you switch it off, it's going to, it's good.
You need another one.
That'll just say, and back down.
So, so yeah, that, like, it was a bit of a pain in the ass because, um,
to like, not to, the wine is kind of easy.
Like, you wouldn't even be able to tell it was even in there.
I've hidden all the relays and everything behind panels and stuff.
I'm using factory hardware hardware.
So like, oh, I'll send some photos in the group chat later.
But excuse me.
Um, but the, um, mounting them was a bit of a pain because I used,
I feel like I read on some, some other people that I never just used the
existing, the existing like location.
So I took out the right side, the driver's side and like a bolt and then
replaced them.
I made like a little bracket kind of bolt to put in for the, so,
so it would go back.
So I matched the, the, um, the bolt size went back in.
Fine.
Perfect.
Locked in the passenger side.
I got about half like a few clicks.
Like, you know, turns over that was like, oh, it's coming loose.
It snapped in there.
Yeah.
And I was like, oh, so, but I noticed it was ricey up the top.
So like a lot of it came out.
I was like, maybe I can get away with it.
So I tried this.
I tried to extract it.
I couldn't do it.
It's been a really weird location.
I just couldn't get under there.
Um, so I got another bolt, put some, put some spaces, um, with,
with some washes and I'm, and I lined it all up and then just,
just, I could not get it up.
And it is sent.
Absolutely.
Delivered it.
And, um, basically it's stronger than, than, than the,
than the, uh, than the right side.
I'm like, well, that's fine.
Yeah.
That's like, I said, the most Aussie thing I should be right.
That's not going anywhere.
Okay.
Give it a, give it a, give it a tap and, um, so yeah.
And happy days.
I drove it to summary with 110 guys in the app.
Solid as I was like, okay, I'll take that.
So if it can survive that and it still rocks solid, I'm like, it's fine.
Um, so, so yeah, really good.
Happy with it.
Um, that's been pretty much, I don't know.
I dropped my camera today.
So that's, that's been, that's been my updates for, for, for, for me.
Moving on to last week is, uh, we mentioned, we're talking about Saab
because, because our good friend Edward Bunzing bought a Saab 900.
I've always liked Saab.
I don't know you guys.
I mean, David Prince's first car was almost a Saab.
Um, and Saab were always an interesting company.
I mean, they're, they're now defunct.
They don't exist anymore.
Um, but they did make the, during that time making automobiles,
they did leave a lasting impression for well built, solid, um,
quirky Scandinavian, Scandinavian vehicles that are still quite well
loved for, and they've got quite a fan base.
Like people that own Saabs, you know, like usually like your,
your, your BMW and Mercedes by was like, was a drug dealer,
but your Saab guy was like, uh, you know, he was your dentist.
He was your dentist.
He was your graphic designer.
He was your architect.
Yeah.
So there was a, they attracted a different kind of, uh, kind of buyer.
And I kind of like that.
Like, you know, I think it's like, you look at the demographic of people
who still drive Saab 900s and stuff.
And quite often we're like, if they, they're, all of them are still
wanting a car and you see them there and they're old,
they're kind of older gentlemen these days, but they, you know,
the cars are pristine and they drive them all, you know,
full, full registration.
They drive them all the time.
And you're like, yeah, you are the demographic of that car.
You know, they personified a generation of, you know,
of people who bought cars.
Um, you know, the, it's, I know we stereotype a lot in the show about,
you know, we've done the stereotypical cars, but like,
obviously like, like a later in nine three, um,
I think they even made a joke on, on, um, on some car shows at like a nine
three, you know, uh, convertible, you know, was bought by,
you know, um, the, the, the mom that was going, uh,
going to the force of husband.
Uh, you know, this is, this is her comeback car.
Uh, so, you know, it was, they kind of invoked that,
sorry, they stigma, uh, with their owners and,
but they did make some great cars.
And that's why I want to talk to you guys about Saab's greatest
that we think, uh, need, need to be mentioned.
Now, David, you said you were going to,
your first car was going to be a what?
It was a Saab 900?
No, no, no earlier than that.
Okay.
99.
Okay. Yeah. Yeah.
EMS.
So they were even quirkier.
Look, even less convention.
Um, they had the 75 model.
They had the US sort of impact style bumper bars.
The Volvo picked up around the same era.
Um, injected manual sports.
EMS.
And that's why I couldn't buy it because the insurance company took
fright with an 18 year old wanting to buy a car with sports in the name.
Can't have that.
Can't have that.
Outrageous.
Um, but yeah, no, I loved it.
I loved the, um, quirkiness of the thing though had these fantastic
stylized, um, alloy wheels each year came in a different color.
So you can see what year the cars were by the color.
That's cool.
Okay.
So this was 75 in silver and they had this sort of brownie orange
interior still had the gear, the key between the seats seats.
Yep.
Uh, and the reverse gear lock out.
Yeah.
And added to that was the fact that it literally, I think I said last
week felt like it was chiseled out of a block of granite.
It was the most incredible.
Um, the doors just shut like a bank file closing.
It was incredible.
Um, yeah, it's quite a lot of confidence and, um, but yeah,
it was front wheel drive.
It was, I don't know how to use the term lusty in performance.
You know, like a year ago as a two leader had a, didn't have a hatch.
The early cars all had boots, not hatches.
Um, they didn't get the hatch till later in the, in the 900 range.
No, it was just really, really cool, cool looking thing.
I think they're a handsome looking car now.
I think they look better than the 900 that followed them,
even though the 900 is more iconic, but I think was it the non-line
was the first car that they did turbo, right?
Like that, that was there.
That's right.
Yeah.
70, 78, I think the turbo came out.
Cardinal red, all the 78 turbos were.
Yeah, there you go.
And they, and they really pioneered turbo technology didn't they?
So like, like they really kind of, that was their thing.
You wanted a turbo car, you bought a Saab, you know, that was sort of
a low pressure.
Low pressure turbo.
Yeah.
So it, um, they had, and some people will tell you that I'm obsessed with wheels,
but they were famous for their waffle iron alloys.
Yeah.
They actually looked like a plate of a waffle iron and they had great
turbo badges.
They came in, um, uh, and yeah, I'm pretty sure it was the first,
certainly the first factory turbo car sold in Australia, I think.
That was the question.
No, no, no.
Making that up as I go along.
It probably would have been like, I mean, they didn't sell the 2002 turbos
here today.
I don't think they would have.
There are some here.
I don't know that they sold them here.
That would have been 74.
Benny Moosa, if you're listening.
Let us know.
Yeah.
Um, but, uh, no, they, they were, they were cool that the, it's funny when
you said you prefer the nine nines to the nine hundreds.
Once the nine hundred come out, I thought it was just the logical
progression, perfect progression.
And I much prefer the nine hundreds.
I loved all the nine hundreds as they came out.
They went up to the other.
Um, we had good friends who bought a 900 GLI sedan in about 82 in the
embassy blue, which was the dark flat blue, not non metallic blue.
And then they upgraded that in about 88 to a five door turbo manual in
the same color with the charcoal leather and the sunroof.
That was, that was a lovely car.
Hmm.
That would be a tasty car.
Very tasty car.
Yeah.
So you've got, you've got history with Saab.
Anyone else got history with Saab on this podcast before we, before
you get into talking about our favorites?
Not that I purchased one, but I mean, I have taken a handbook or
a driver when I had the, um, the 60 yards and worked as a, um, Swedish
specialist mechanics out in Kiel or, and that was their loan car.
Viking motors.
Viking motors.
Yeah.
Bang on.
That's the one.
The ones.
They, um, yeah, no, they were, they're actually really good as well.
I am basically doing the, um, the rear diff and the Haldex system out of
a used, uh, S 60 T six, um, and installed 1500 bucks.
That's pretty good.
So that was a solid deal.
They still going?
Viking motors?
Yeah.
I believe so.
I believe so.
I only took the car down there once, but.
Yeah.
Still rolling.
You've got two shops next to each other.
They're wrecking on one side and fixing on the other.
They're like, they're doing really well.
We have Swedish prestige in the East and every, every side that's still in
existence, I think.
Swedish prestige.
There's actually, yeah.
There's a couple of places in the East as well that do specifically Swedish
stuff.
All right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And look, that's, uh, that's going to be one, one thing with the logo.
I've got to find a, you know, reputable Swedish specialist.
Got some people for you.
Anthony, I've got some people for you.
Perfect.
Well, I mean, Viking motors is always going to be driving through there as a,
as a, as a need be, but still open to, still open to other ideas too.
I mean, Keel is not that far from me on, let's say 25 minutes.
Um, but no, I, uh, at one point, man, I don't know whether you remember, but I
was, um, and probably would have been about the same time when I was looking
at, and decided to get the, the 60.
Um, I was actually interested in the, the nine five.
Uh, aero XWD.
And again, um, there's one, which is for sale at the moment in New South.
Um, they're a very good looking car.
They are.
They have it at two.
Like this is a, um, 2011 nine five aero auto XWD, uh, 146,000 KS,
which is the 2.8 liter turbo six.
And you know, it's got the heads up display.
It's got obviously an adjustable seats and everything else like that with
your memory sort of set up on it.
It's got some quirky green cluster.
Um, you know, had a hard and carton sound system.
You know, it had the, had the proper moon route sort of thing with a
retractable set up on it.
They're all really good looking.
They were, yeah.
It had, uh, looks like it's got push button start in it as well for 2011.
Like the very nice thing.
They were, they always were a nice car, even though like those later cars were
with GM, um, like under their ownership.
It's funny.
I rewatched just before this episode with the, uh, of the podcast.
I really watched the episode of top gear when they, when the, you know, it was
like this, the dead, you know, the death of Saab and, um, they were really,
they did really cool things and interesting things.
And they, and they, they had some really cracking cars over the years.
Um, you know, I thought the last sub that they had, I forgot what the,
the monocode was.
It was a good looking car.
I thought that's like, oh, this is, this is really nice.
Was that kind of like last cup?
Yeah.
They were very few sold in Australia, but they were, were available here.
They were.
Yeah.
It's super cheap.
Not long ago of all places.
Yeah.
There you go.
Good looking car.
I thought they were nice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I thought they were really classy thing.
Um, but yeah.
I guess when they, when they kind of got like after the nine three,
they kind of just went a bit nowhere in Australia.
And I think, I think around the world too, to be fair.
Um, which is sad because, you know, I guess, I don't know why they,
they, they, they didn't have the same appeal like in that era,
like, you know, the 2000s as, as like a Mercedes or a BMW or,
you know, maybe, maybe Jerry Seinfeld wasn't sprucing him enough.
Um, you know, maybe, you know,
I don't know what it was, but they just feels like they just kind of
tape it off and fade it off into the, into the wilderness.
And it was really, really sad.
But let's cover our favorite Saabs, gentlemen.
So Rob, I'll start with you.
Your favorite Saabs, my friend.
The nine three convertible, uh, one of my managers used to have one.
And, um, yeah, went for a drive in it once and it was a nice car.
It drove well, went well.
Um, so I quite liked it.
And I sort of got a liking for that.
And apparently they sold 10,000 units.
The nine three convertible.
And they sort of led the way in convertibles apparently.
They did.
Yeah.
There you go.
Um, yeah.
I like the nine three for me, but it gets a lot of flack.
I know I understand that because it was, you know, GM based, you know,
Opel, Vectra, I think underpinnings.
Um, you know, but, but Saab did a lot of the reason why they didn't make any
money is because they re-engineered the whole car to make it how they want
it to do it.
Cause like they're always obsessed with safety and stuff.
And, and, you know, I respect that even though they were like, they were
given, let's be honest, shit to work with.
Uh, and they're like, well, we got to do something with it.
So, you know, and for me, like my ultimate Saab would be a nine three
vegan.
And I've mentioned that a few times on this on the show.
I just, I'd love a, he's going up on the screen now.
Um, I would absolutely adore a vegan.
I think that would, I think that'd be a really cool car.
I think it's a, I think it's a future classic to be honest too.
Um,
They're already quite pricey.
They are.
Yeah.
They were nothing for ages too.
They were in 10 grand all day.
And now they're in nothing close to 20 last much act.
Um, but yeah, they were quite quick.
I mean, they will talk, talk to you into a hedge, but that's part of the
fine.
I guess like that's, you know, it's from all accounts, mechanically,
they're quite strong.
Um, and I think that, I think they're still a good looking car.
Like they kept that, that's Saab silhouette.
You know, um, which is something that I think was so unique to Saab in
general.
Um, you know, the nine nine, nine hundred and nine three.
They, you can always say, you can always say that's,
that's the lineage of the brand.
Like that's a Saab.
Um,
Evolution or most.
Yeah.
And for me, like if I, if I could get one, I'd get one of those or I
didn't even get like a, like a 900 turbo.
Um,
But I was like the nine nine.
Like I thought that was like, it's a, I mean, when I first saw a nine nine
and it was, it was a really unique, you know, unique designed car,
but I thought it was a good looking car.
I thought it was, it was really, you know, quite taught.
Um, but also it was well, well wheeled like cars from that era really
weren't well wheeled.
If you know what I mean?
Like the wheels and tires looked like they fit the guards in that car.
And, um, so yeah, I'm, I'm a fan of, I'm a fan of those.
And I'm a fan of the one car that people really disregard from Saab,
the 9,000.
I actually kind of liked the 9,000.
I don't think it was as bad as everyone made it out to be.
Um, even though it was a platform shared car with, uh,
Blantzia, the, the Thema and really?
Yeah.
Um,
And I think the, what else?
Was it a Fiat that they shared it with as well?
Yeah.
That's it.
So, you know, and the Saab ones were kind of, you know, really cool with the
tri spokes.
It's got to be, I've got to have tri spokes or obviously.
No, no.
Disagree.
Disagree.
David.
Disagree.
The turbo, the 80s Saab turbo alloys were just, just perfect.
80s turbo.
Are they the 9,000?
Uh, 900 or the nine, early nine, uh, 9,000 turbos had them.
Uh, but all the 900, um, convertibles had them in the, um,
turbo sedans.
Okay.
All right.
So, so you're, you're not a tri spoke fan.
No, no, no.
They've got four studs.
They should have, shouldn't be three spoke.
Ooh.
Okay.
All right.
Even if they're covered by a cover.
Yeah.
Even if they can, I know, you see driving a bloody,
what is it a Renault 12's got three studs.
Yeah.
All right.
Okay.
Disagree.
All right.
Well, let's, let's go with your favorite subs.
Uh, Jim,
what's that with you?
Um, I actually agree with you.
I quite like the, the 9,000.
Um, and I think because it's a bit, um, runs under the radar of a typical
model that most sub enthusiasts are looking for as well.
Um, and yeah, just need to drive on Monday, but I think that's probably my favorite.
I did have a few people that I saw a new growing up that had nine three
convertibles and stuff like that.
Um, and whatever.
But I think I just thought of the sub 9,000 was just a bit more substantial
as a car.
Um, and, um, I mean, they sold plenty of them to be able must have been happy with
them, but I just sort of thought that I felt a little bit cheap and generic inside.
Um, so yeah.
So prefer the 9,000.
Yeah.
So you're not, you're 9,000.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So Rob, you're a nine three convertible guy.
You just mentioned.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, what was, did it feel like was a scuttle shake as bad as they said,
like the.
There was a little bit.
Yeah.
They're all pretty bad in those days.
Yeah.
They weren't great.
So yeah, but it was all right.
They're such a nice, crazy convertible.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
I was.
Scotty.
Um, the cyber room.
Yeah.
The nine three.
Three X.
Yeah.
That's right.
Yeah.
I wish we got there in Australia.
Yeah.
I really do.
Yeah.
There's a lot of consoles.
There's one consoles.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
The cyber room.
Yeah.
If I was probably going, I think it would have to be the sad 9000 turbo.
It's nice and boxy.
It is a bit boxy.
I like the boxiness of it.
That reminds me of the old boxy touring cars.
Yeah.
That era.
Um, and that's kind of what yeah hooks me in.
And I guess on certain angles.
It kind of reminds me also of the Lotus Colton.
Oh yeah.
I can see that way there.
The headlights, the front headlights, the blocky.
Blockiness.
Yeah.
They're like rectangles.
Yeah.
And if you get it in black, like it's even more of that Lotus Colton.
Just gives me that kind of vibe and reminds me of.
Yeah.
Cool.
Some good old times on Gran Turismo and things.
Chad, you are a bit of a Swedish coffee.
I do like them.
I haven't been in a lot of salves of only two.
A friend of mine had a basement on 9 three, the four door.
Sorry.
Nine hundred.
Four door nine hundred.
And it was like nothing special at all.
It was like brown on brown.
It was like super boring.
But yeah, interesting design car, interesting bits and pieces.
Um, but a friend of mine, uh, another friend of mine had a nine five
turbo from just like a pass down, a hand me down from his parents.
And man, we spent so much time in that car.
A little ripped.
Yeah.
It ripped.
They were like fairly fast for a little.
They were quick.
Um, two liter or 2.3.
Yeah.
Um, four cylinder turbo.
And I have really like fond memories in that car of just like blasting music around
and going fast because there was a turbo car like on our P plates.
Yeah.
Um, so I quite like that car, but I think if I was to have one, I can't go past the
nine hundred turbo, the, the one from the movie paid in full, like black convertible
with big gold BBS.
That's gotta be the one for me.
It's one of the coolest looking movie cars.
I think.
Wow.
Okay.
One of my favorite ones.
I know it's a big call.
That's just very unique.
I have to put that in our next movie car episode that we do.
Yeah.
That's true.
Yeah.
So the eight plus eight.
Let's go.
Um, no.
Yeah.
I'd really like a nine hundred.
Yeah.
Nine hundred turbo.
Definitely on the list to own one day.
Avert.
Um, whether it's a bird or a hard top, I'm not, I'm not too concerned.
Avert would be cool, but I think it would just come with more issues to deal with.
Yeah.
Especially how 35 or so 40 plus years old.
Yeah.
They are now.
So yeah.
Yeah.
Love a, love a nine hundred turbo.
Mr.
Turbo Terry.
Well, actually a combination of things.
Obviously the nine hundred is always good.
Um, the nine three vision.
I don't mind the hatchiness, but I mean, obviously two door life, but I mean stretched out that
little bit.
That sort of early 2000s that has that little bit of nostalgia behind it.
And obviously given the manual setup in it is always good.
Um, you know, it still came with heated seats for back in 2021.
And we'll talk to you into the next line.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Well, why, why buy a man car when man cow and I kill you.
That's exactly right.
Um, yeah.
So that's just, there's a lot of different options that you can appreciate.
Like again, two door aspect of thing.
That's quality in the nine hundreds.
If you go and fight the early generations really rate those, um, you know, again, even to the
consideration of the nine five, um, Exile would drive.
They, they all are interesting in their own sort of ways.
And I can see myself driving them in each different facet.
If I want something to resist the noise and I'm sitting down with all the couch comforts
or whatever else it is, you know, you go to the newer generation.
If you want something that it's, uh, you know, going to talk you into a wall, then, you know,
you go early 2000s.
Um, and if you want that little bit more, just, you know, post a long vintage car, you go
early 1900s.
So I'm, I'm pretty, pretty just across the board in, in appreciation for it.
Absolutely.
Nice.
So David, if you had to pick one.
Well, I'm going to go anything.
Well, my car for about 93 was before General Motors started to get their fingers into it
too much.
Uh, so it'd have to be 900 or a 9,000.
There was a 900 CD.
Um, we've got about 50 of those, which was a longer wheelbase version.
Oh, really?
Longer rear doors and more leg room in the back.
Hmm.
Yeah.
Made of mind's mum had one of those.
That was a very rare car.
So do you want to say common rail diesel?
Yeah.
I don't know.
More diplomatic.
That was like the luxury version.
Um, a quiz question in a few weeks.
There's actually a 900 I three door manual.
So similar to what, um, it's got, um, available at the moment, uh, in white with the, the
nice, um, almost like what an Abbey style alloys that was a fake option, uh, in a manual
and the guy's final line of it says, please don't buy it because he doesn't want to sell
it.
Yeah.
You need to put that in your territory out.
Please don't buy it.
Yeah.
Please don't buy it.
Uh, yes.
I'm crying.
I'm going 80s into early 90s, 900.
Man, probably manual.
I drove into the other day.
It's got the three speed Borg Warner in it.
Um, I think a manual would be a nicer car.
Harder to get parts or evenly the gearboxes are made of parmesan cheese and they breaking
and there's none left in the world, evidently, but, um, we have a go.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Um, I think so.
I think sub could have still been here if they kind of adapted a bit more.
I mean, they tried, you know, using the general motors, you know, full drives and their platforms
and stuff, but, um, you know, they did try to, they did try to be sub to right till the
end and you got to respect them for that.
Um, which is something, something that like a lot of car companies don't do.
They, they all bit of sheep.
And I always said to some friends of mine, I said, Saab would still be around if it was
a Japanese company, um, because the Japanese love quirky cars.
Um, and I think Saab would have worked really well in Japan as a, you know, if it was a,
if it was run, you know, run by the Japanese.
Um, so libel would have been fantastic.
I mean, you don't hear too many horror stories from Saab like in terms of reliability.
They're actually not too bad for, for, for that, for that, you know, car, but then again,
they were quite, they weren't over the top tech, you know, techie either really.
Like they were, they were quite a basic car.
They were similar.
They're an alternative to a 240 basically.
Yeah.
It was a durable car.
As you say, not, not typically European and being particularly hard to look after.
I mean, look, look, you know, the engines were, were weirdly placed and gearbox underneath
engines and they did all weird sort of, you know, sort of setups, but predominantly
they were fine.
Like they're, you know, like a lot of people have quite fond of older Saabs for, for that
reason.
Like I've never seen a Saab sonnet in real life, but I think that'd be kind of a, kind
of a cool thing.
And oh, okay.
We can, we'll talk.
Um, but you know, I think, I think the Saab that people mainly remember is like the 900
and the, and the nine and in 9,000 and early nine threes.
Um, I think they're the ones that most people are fond of, especially, especially the 900.
I think the 900 is to Saab, what the 240 is to Volvo.
Um, you know, I think that's, I think that's a really good.
It's their hero car.
It's the absolutely the hero car and it needs, they need to be celebrated and preserved a
bit more.
Um, cause they are kind of dying around in these days, but Miss Saab.
850 is a great, great, cool car.
Um, so yeah, I think, I think we were all kind of in the same ballpark of, of car, of Saab
choices.
Please come back Saab.
We miss you.
But not under GM.
We beg you.
But not under GM.
Yes.
Yes.
But, uh, come back out like Honda, buy, buy them out or do something.
Yeah.
Um, I don't know.
You're looking at the prices of 850s and they are ridiculous.
They are stupid expensive.
I mean, Chad, you had an 850 at one point.
Yeah.
I just had a turbo T5 on them.
Um, I got it for a steal, but then the price has just crept up, up and up.
Yeah.
850R is like 25 to 30 grand for a pretty average one.
I saw a nice one for 50.
Yeah.
They're really,
so there are four 850s currently for sale.
Um, one of them is just a T5 and the other ones are the 850Rs.
Um, so the cheapest for sale at the moment is 21,500, which is the 850 T5.
Yeah.
Money for that car.
Then you've got the 96850R wagon that is 35 grand.
I'm guessing they're all auto, by the way.
So far.
So auto is at 35.
The sedan 850R is 50, which is auto.
Um, and then the most expensive, it's actually manual and it's a wagon.
Uh, is a 97850R manual wagon, which is 53 with 120,000 days on it.
That's the spec you want though.
It's you're going to pay for it.
Manual and wagon and it looks, it looks pristine as well.
Yeah.
Anyway.
We can dream.
We can dream.
That's exactly right.
We can dream.
So that's a little bit of a Saab episode.
I'd like to do some,
some episodes like this where we talk about certain brands and their favorite cars from
those brands.
I think we, I think we can start doing that and then bring them in and reminisce of the
good times because the new times aren't as good.
The cars that are on sale.
So, I mean, if we talk about Mitsubishi, we'll have, we'll be having Jim be gone.
This Magna, this Magna, this Magna, this Magna, which, which is fine.
And then David will be like, I have to be a Magna without air conditioning and cause
it'll be, um, I mean, although Jim wouldn't mind cause like, you know, Jim, you know,
that's right.
Oh, you can't have a race car Magna if you don't, if you have air conditioning.
I can see, I can see Jim, if Jim was going to buy a Magna brand new back in like, let's
say he was going to buy a, his T, his TW, he'd be like, look, I'd like to option it without
air conditioning, please.
Air conditioning delete.
Well, and also on that weird little thing too, um, between the TL and the TW, for some
reason, they changed the climate control buttons.
But in a TL, it has a snowflake that then in a TW, it says like a max or something.
Yeah.
Why?
I don't know.
I'm assuming it must have been that people went, where's the aircon?
And they had to explain it.
So I just got sick of doing it.
I don't know.
Weird.
Anyway, um, it's car quiz time.
David Prince has kindly offered to do our quiz for us this week.
I have.
It's a special one this week because, uh, it relates to the Grand Prix.
Okay.
So, um, I learned some things.
Yes, Rob.
Mercedes.
Cadillac.
Cadillac.
Cadillac.
We have to take marks off.
It doesn't relate that closely to it, but you'll see as time goes by.
All right.
Let's do it.
Yeah, let's ready.
All ready to go.
Okay.
Question one, what was significant about Sunday's running of the formula?
Matthew.
The 30th year in Melbourne.
Correct.
The 30th year.
Sorry, Adelaide.
Oh.
So I can never forget that because I did the Dutton rally in 95.
The last year it was in Adelaide.
So that's for the reason I did it then because I knew it wouldn't be the same in Melbourne.
And it wasn't ever, the Dutton rally was never the same again in Melbourne from Egypt to Adelaide.
It was great.
I don't, I don't think Adelaide are feeling too sad because they have the MoGP now.
That's true.
Yeah, yeah.
They do write that.
Jim, why weren't you there with your pitchforks and said, get away from, away from, away from
my racer?
Well, to be honest, I think because in complete fairness, I went, they haven't really changed
the outfit since about 1958.
So I'm not really surprised that I really want to go back there anymore.
And if you're a person that follows it internationally, why would you bother coming down here when it's
hours away from an airport when you can go to various other locations and have all the
mantis close to hand?
Like, it's hard to argue with that.
So is that because no one on Ireland would let them develop it?
No, no, that's, so just to clarify that quickly, I had a relative that was on council at the
time that there was a proposal for a big hotel there.
And they were actually quite supportive of that.
I remember during that time that relative went quite grey hair because they received a lot
of death threats from locals over it.
Yeah, people were quite animated.
But they had actually approved it in the end.
And then they came back with a different proposal, which was also approved and they just decided
not to build.
So, yeah, yeah.
That's the right answer, though, I guess.
You know, the angry old locals with pitchforks that don't like change.
Yep.
Next question, Dave.
Oh, okay.
Thanks, Rob.
Thanks for keeping on track.
Question two, which manufacturer has won the most constructors championships in history
Formula One?
Chad.
Chad.
I think it's Ferrari.
Correct.
Well done, Chad.
Bonus question.
How many?
Oh, God, Matthew.
Do you want to go closest to?
We'll go closest to.
Okay.
I will say.
Without going over.
Closest to.
I'll go 14.
If anyone gets it off, there's only one answer.
I'll go 14.
You'll go 14.
14, yeah.
I'll say 18.
18.
Jim.
Jim.
I'll say 12.
12.
Chad, I'll do 22.
22 says Chad and 20 says Rob.
Anthony.
I'll go nine just to go on the lower end of the scale.
Spanner in the works.
Oh, okay.
So who said 14?
I did.
Who said 18?
You did.
Scotty.
Half a point each.
It was 16.
Oh, okay.
I'll help you split that with you.
Yeah.
Scotty.
16.
Question three.
Which drives the only driver in the history to win both the
drivers and constructors?
Yeah.
With that.
So Jack.
Correct.
And I like that you used the sir.
He's a man.
So it was constructors and maybe ship.
He won the race.
It'll never happen.
There'll never be anybody else do it because that a built
car is like that now.
They don't make them.
Stop there.
They don't make people like Jack Brabham.
That's very true.
Bonus question.
What year?
Jim.
Jim.
1966.
10,000 points.
Yeah.
I was about to say the exact same year, Jim.
He also won in 59 and 62.
Now, how did you know that?
How did you know that?
You go Jim first.
I was going to say, I knew that because my mum was born in 1966.
And I always remember reading that fact.
And I was like, I related that fact to the year my mum was born.
Yeah.
There you go.
Yeah.
I always remember that year.
Okay.
For me, I'm not exactly sure, but I'm sometimes we're not
recalling years of stuff.
So.
And I, yeah, I think it just sort of lodged into my head quite well.
It's probably also why I'm quite good at picking up when models
come out and stuff like that too.
Yeah.
Awesome.
It's, I was actually at the, this weekend is the Phillip Island
Classic.
Yes.
Which I was at in 2014, I think.
And I was sitting down having my cup of coffee in a hamburger,
I think.
And so Jack Brabham walked past me and I grabbed a shot of him
as he walked past.
And I wasn't brave enough.
Well, I had mouth also couldn't really.
He was also, he was, he was a very strong ambassador for Honda
too.
Because he was connected with Honda in Japan for many years.
And they absolutely review him like as a, as a complete legend.
And yeah, he passed away within a couple of months of that day.
So yeah, I was very sad.
66 was the year that he made history though.
Question four.
This is probably a closest to question, although someone might
get it bang on the money.
How many seconds was it before Oscar Piastri crashed out in the
formation lap?
Oh, the seconds.
How many seconds?
He just did it to himself, didn't he?
He's like, what?
There we go.
It's closest to 20 seconds.
20 seconds is Chad.
28 seconds.
28.
28.
38.
38.
38.
Sorry.
Yep.
I'll go 43.
43.
Rob, I'll go 60 seconds.
60 seconds.
30 seconds.
30 seconds is Anthony.
Yep.
Because before the first corner.
And Jim, or aren't that the first corner?
I'll say 31 and three quarters.
Two quarters.
I'd love to give it to you for just for that.
But no, Chad's the winner.
So there's no official designation,
but I did a bit of research.
It was actually on turn four.
And the average time from the start line to the turn four.
And I went with the slower because it was only the formation
lap.
18 to 22 seconds.
So Chad, you win.
Well done.
Good work.
So I went with 22 seconds.
Some people were so cruel to see some of the memes that came out
straight away.
Some rough ones.
Yep.
We won't go there.
Question five.
Oh, funny though.
Where was the first Australian Grand Prix run?
Rob.
Rob.
Phillip Island.
Correct.
No.
Well done, Rob.
Bonus question.
What year?
Jim.
Jim.
1928.
Correct.
Wow.
Jeez, there you go.
One of these closest to nonsense.
Although to be fair,
we probably should call she down again as I do live there.
Here's an Island Band.
And I have to even pass the sign that has the years about 14
million times.
I think that's regional.
All right.
That's genetic.
You can't help it.
You can't help winning getting that question right.
Okay.
Question six.
Two drivers hold the record for the most formula one world
drivers championship.
Matthew.
Matthew.
One would be Lewis Hamilton.
Correct.
And the other would be Michael Schumacher.
Do I pour?
Very good.
You just get into the process.
It's annoying.
I know the answers,
but you get in before I said the question.
Oh, I did.
Bonus question.
How many each?
Chad.
Chad.
Hamilton has seven and Schumacher has.
It'll be the same.
They're on the same.
Is this seven?
Well,
I thought it was eight because he wasn't the most ever.
No,
because two drivers hold the record.
Hold the record.
Oh, okay.
Well,
that's seven.
Chad.
His answer is seven, he says.
Seven.
Seven and seven.
So,
one for two points.
All right.
Oh,
fair enough.
Really, isn't it?
Because they both hold the same number.
Okay.
Away from the,
it's been fun.
I was on a time limit here.
Which Hyundai,
let's go from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Hyundai is the latest to receive the top spec Highlander name.
Chad.
Chad.
Is it the Palisade?
Incorrect.
Matthew.
Matthew.
Hoda.
Incorrect.
Jim.
Jim.
Is it the Saria?
It is.
The Staria Highlander with not one, but two sunroofs.
Jeez.
It's the modern one.
Mr. Prince.
It's the modern Toyota.
A steamer.
Absolutely correct.
Question eight.
Which overseas manufacturer is the latest to release a Bathurst edition?
Well, they're all overseas manufacturers now aren't they?
Just to say.
Chad.
Chad.
Oh, is it a Mustang?
Ford Mustang?
Incorrect.
Scott.
Scott.
The new Corvette.
Oh, I'm not aware of that.
But that's not what I was looking for.
But is there a Bathurst Corvette?
Where there was one, they were talking about it.
I'll double check,
but they're talking about it during that 12 hour race.
Okay.
Well, that's not the one that I was.
So I just double checked I could be wrong, but I thought that was that one.
This was on the car news recently, but I can't remember what car it was.
Obviously it didn't even...
It didn't really...
It didn't even saw me.
It was like, oh, here whatever, it's on an M2 Bathurst.
Or RX7 Bathurst.
Oh, great.
It didn't really matter.
Toyota Supra?
It's not a Toyota Supra.
It's probably going to be something stupid like a MG3.
It's a Memphis D-
Jeez.
Looser.
I mean, there's only three cars and no, there's four now. Sorry. No, there's three. Three cars and in the V8. Yeah. Super cars.
Yeah, it wouldn't be making a race.
I guess it's not super like Bathurst 1000. It doesn't have to be that.
No, you're right, Scotty. Bathurst Edition revealed.
There you go.
Okay.
Half a point we'll say then because I have a point this guy. Yeah, done.
I don't know what I was thinking, but anyone else?
Matthew, I want to say 2086.
Incorrect. Well, that's logical. I see why you're saying that.
Yeah.
You're all done? Is that right now?
Jim, I'll say Lotus.
You'd be correct.
Really?
So the Lotus Amira Turbo Bathurst Edition has just...
Yes, please. I have one of those.
How about a four-cylinder AMG turbocharged engine?
No, I'd rather have a V6.
So quickly, you had to size it.
A four-cylinder AMG engine.
Yeah, out of the AMG.
They used to be V6's.
They were V6's, yeah.
You can still get them into V6. That's what I'm giving.
I want a one order.
Close as two. How much is it?
Oh, God.
Matthew.
Matthew.
I want to say 264.
264.
No, I'll think of more like 150.
150, Scotty.
You'd be surprised what they charged for, just for badges.
So...
Yeah, Chad, I'll do 200.
200, Chad.
What did you say, Scotty?
150.
150.
Yeah, running that down.
I'm going to say 189.
189 says Anthony. 138 says Rob.
I have in the past Googled Amiris and...
So, I'm going to say something like 284.
Okay, 284.
Gosh, you have to save your money, aren't you?
Matthew gets the chocolates this time.
$250,000.
It is nice figure.
I'll give a lot of buy-offs.
What a rip-off.
How many are they making?
Wow.
A thousand for the Bathurst 1000.
How does that sound, Scotty?
How many they're selling more to the point?
12 for the Bathurst.
So, Corvette 1 is...
They're only making 12 units available for Australia and New Zealand,
and it's $336.
Oh, it makes the loaders look good value, doesn't it?
Not really.
How much is the Corvette?
They're making only 12 of them.
Yeah, that's true.
It's a pretty good collector's item.
It's going to stay around that price if not constantly kept going up,
as opposed to some Lotus.
Yeah.
It's an AMG motor in it.
Some Lotus.
Some Lotus.
I think I can see where Scotty's superannuation is going.
Question 9.
There's new Ferrari coming out,
which to my eyes is one of the ugliest Ferraris ever released,
but that's just me.
And they're delt into the history for their name.
What is it called?
This is a cart repose this week.
I'm so far out with Ferrari, I don't even know.
Matthew, I want to say...
They've reverted back to the Daytona.
Incorrect.
Okay, that's fine.
Thank you.
I was kind of thinking that.
Is it Electric themed name or something?
That's what they're making these.
Scott.
Scott.
Is it that new Testerosa?
Correct, Scotty.
It's the 4849 Testerosa.
I forgot about that.
I was talking to one of my students about that
and was saying how the original looks so much better.
Correct.
The original is awesome.
A bonus point for saying that.
A bonus question.
What does Testerosa mean?
Chad.
Chad.
Half of it means red.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's what Testerosa means.
Yeah, red.
Testerosa.
Red testicle.
What do you drive on a red testicle, mate?
Red testicle, yeah.
Red Rose.
No.
Do you get half a point for red, Chad?
Yeah, I'll give you a point.
I'll take it.
Was it Red Bull?
No.
Jim.
Tim.
Is it like Spirit or something?
Nope, incorrect.
Jeez.
Red Testerosa.
Testerosa.
Thoroughbred?
Like blood?
Like a...
That's some...
I'm saying where?
No.
I know what Tester means.
Anthony.
I remember from my Italian days.
Okay.
So if Tester, like, is over on out?
No, I think it will go.
Yeah, we're all out.
So from my Italian days, Tester is head.
Correct.
Rossa is red.
So red head?
Correct.
Red head.
There you go.
I can have my guess, so I'm out.
But just doing it, I was like,
oh, from my Italian when you're learning
all the body parts and stuff.
Tester.
Yeah.
Testerosa.
I just thought it up.
It looks like a dustpan.
I know.
I know.
Terrible.
Oh, the new one.
I've never heard of someone say a car looks like a dustpan.
Jim, you've won the internet today.
Google it.
Google it.
Google it.
It's terrible.
It sure does.
Oh, wow.
It makes sense.
Dustpan.
Yeah, it does look like a bloody dustpan.
Thank you.
Thank you.
It's a double chin spoiler.
It is, yeah.
Now, Scotty, what's the Italian word for dustpan?
I'm not sure.
It's not panel.
I didn't get that far when I was learning Italian at school.
Okay, I've got a bonus bonus question.
What's the base model selling for?
Jesus Christ.
I'm too afraid to even think about this.
Out of all of our price ranges.
Yes.
Can I be your answer?
Out of all the prices.
It was referenced as telephone numbers.
In the 10 digits?
No, not quite.
I want to say, Matthew, I'll say 2.3 mil.
Oh, thank you.
Okay.
Next.
Are we doing the Australian dollars?
Yeah, sure.
Only a dollar.
I think it's going to be like 860.
860,000.
All right.
I'll put my price up.
I'll go 900.
900 says Rob.
1.2.
1.2 says Chad.
Anthony and Jim.
1.4.
1.4 and Jim.
I'm going to say 1.72.
1.72.
1.72.
To answer your question earlier, Jim,
Mr. Scotty Doe has answered that.
What is Italian for Dospels?
Halletta.
Halletta.
That's quite a good name for a power, actually.
Cool it to the internet.
Except remove the Thrari badge and put a pooper on it.
It's the Dyson Testarossa.
To put one of these rosso paletas in your driveway,
you'll need to come up with 932,648 dollars,
which makes Rob.
Rob the clock. Yeah, well done, Rob. Well done. Geez, I was, I was way off.
And luxury car tax will be cheaper when it goes.
True. Okay, now I've got the last question's a brochure question.
So just so you know, this brochure that I'm reading from cars still available for sale,
okay, 40, 40 years old. Hang on. The car is still for sale. The brochure is 40 years old.
Yeah. Yeah. The rain, the model, the car and the model is still, still available.
Okay. But the brochure is 40 years old because this is a date.
No, Jim, you can't have a guess.
Is it a 70 series Land Cruiser? Incorrect.
Oh, I was like, I was like, oh, he's, he's, he's got me.
Very, very, very good. I can see why you went there.
Incorrect. Was that you get? Here we go. The blank blank was and is an automobile designed
and engineered to set the standard in its class. Its legendary breakthroughs in engineering,
construction and production quality continuously evolved over two decades.
Is the achievement of an engineering obsession among gifted technicians?
As always, the blank simply surpasses all normal standards and criteria refined as never before.
The newest blank blank follows magnificently in this proud tradition upon driving the latest
version of the classic coupé. One discovers new exhilaration from its 152 kilowatt flat six engine.
Matthew. That would be a portion on 11 or some description. That would be correct.
Well done. Well done. There it is. Very nice. Beautiful brochure. So I've got a collection of
books that I've got from a friend and I'm getting rid of them. But it actually, this brochure has the
Porsche Cars Australia 1985 model. Wow. That is the best Porsche model to that one. Yeah.
It also has all the options and all the prices. Actually, that's probably another quiz in itself,
just the prices of the options and what the cars were sold for and you. The brochure lists the
911s. It's got the 928s and it's got the 944s in it too. It's quickly lists just a couple options.
Like I'm just interested. Like is there anything weird kind of options that it could have come with?
Sure. You can. Interesting. You could still get public paint to sample back then. Oh, cool.
Okay. That's code 9999 if you're interested paint color to sample for 911 $2,298. So this
is in 98. Yeah, I'd pay that. That was today. Tobago for like a very interesting color.
Interestingly, you're only paying $68,390 for the car. You could have. You can get the steering
wheel extended by 30 mil. That's unusual. Does that mean closer to you or further away? I wonder.
Closer. Closer too, I'd say. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that's $91. There you go. Yeah.
Sports seats. No cost for turbo. $512. That's cheap. Absolutely. Anyway, score check.
Interesting. Anthony, you have to score. Rob two, Scotty three, Jim, sorry, Chad 3.5,
Jim 5. And Jim, sorry, I just pipped you in the last question. Me on 5.5 takes the chocolates.
Well done. Sorry, guys. I feel bad. I actually kind of feel bad about that.
Literally could have been anybody's quiz though. I mean, Jim would have won that one because I
just heard him answering so many questions. I don't remember you answering any, Matty,
a cheater. No more questions with dates. And Jim, listen to the take back. I did award you
with 1,000 points with each. You did. So Jim wins by a grand total of 1,980 odd points.
Well, actually it was quite funny though is when you asked where was the first
Grand Prix held and I thought, Philippine, I thought, no, no, I'll be wrong. I didn't say
everything. Yeah. My wife's a cheater and she gives away house points and she off.
Oh, yes. Yes, I'm in the family, David. Yes, those little chestnuts. Yes.
All right. I think that's a podcast, gentlemen. Very good. Yeah, agree.
Charts, discussions and all the above this evening.
Rest in peace, Saab. Rest in peace, Saab. Please come back. Yeah, thank you. Please come back.
Not under GM. Not under GM. And not home to Mahindra, please.
What about Julie? Yeah, I mean, at this point. There's too many things under Julie at the moment.
I mean, they're both like MG. MGs are flying with other Chinese ownership. So if they can do it,
surely Saab can do it. Indian Zone Lotus and Range Rover. And Jag. Jag. Yep, they do. Tata.
Yeah, you say Tata to your money when you buy one of those vehicles.

week is be yourself. Everyone else is taken. Lovely. That's really nice. Yep, really good.
Scotty's got it for the week. I'll try and keep it nice and quick. Very, very tricky to hit your
woods off the ground in fairways and things. So with your three wood, have your feet close together,
like joined together where the ball is. With your left feet, do two steps, two little shuffles out.
Your back feet, three shuffles out. And do not, I repeat, do not try and hit under the ball,
because it's kind of something that you tend to try and do with your woods because they're not
curved or anything. So you tend to try and lean back and hit it under. Don't just stay normal.
Do your swing. Don't try and hit as hard as you can. Hit about 80% with it and you'll notice a
big difference. Absolutely. Good job, Scotty. That's good to go. I'm going to compile all these
brilliant. Jim's car taking. If you want your car exercised, it's like if you want your dog,
if you want your dog walked, go see Jim. That's it. And also on that point as well,
don't think it's cheaper to put off servicing your car. My brother's just found out what happens
when you don't service your car for 10,000 Ks, okay, new engine. So yeah, don't do that.
Yeah, that's something for all of us. Mr. Turbo Terry, coming to find someone near you?
No, no, not quite. I'm still at the desk for the moment for the next couple of months
due to the surgery situation. So mine's just going to be a little shout out to
the little one as it will be her first birthday as of next week. So yeah. Absolutely, congratulations.
So that's celebrating, keeping her alive for a full year.
Rob's doing it, firefighting, electrical, all the above. What else? Neighbor heating?
absolutely. One day. One day. Here's your man. Chad's doing it, delivering it. Yeah, Ted's sending
it. Chad's sending it. I like that one. That's good. And I would like to give a happy birthday wish
to Stephanie. It is your birthday today. Happy birthday to you. I'll see you shortly.
I think that's a podcast, gentlemen. Very good. And I'll see you next time. Take it easy.
