It's our third car launch of the day and it's Aston Martin.
And was it 20 minutes longer than it should have been?
Absolutely.
We're going to get into all of that and more, don't you worry.
Lots of laughs and things to joke about in this one.
But before we do, we realise this quite late as well.
It's actually our third birthday.
So the first YouTube video we ever put up was three years ago today.
So that's where we're counting our birthday from.

It's absolutely insane.
Like that first day we launched, if you're around then,

We've said it so many times.
We said it when we recently got our amazing award and we do so many thank yous,
but we do genuinely mean it so much.
Like it's insane how amazing it's been.
Like the three years have just flown by, to be honest.
It has.
It's absolutely flown.
So I kind of need to just stop in my tracks a little bit and just sort of,
you know, just kind of sometimes I'll just sit there and go,
I should probably just, I'm 33 years old.
I'm doing this.
You know, otherwise life just passes you by, Tommy.
But that's not what we're talking about today.
Because this, this car launch did not pass us by very quickly because it kept being repeated.
It didn't go too well for Aston Martin, who are, I know a lot of Formula One teams are premium brands,
but you would say Aston Martin are probably right at the top in terms of how they,
how they go and do their business.
And they wanted a big lavish car launch.
And that's what they did.
You know, it was an amazing staging that they'd set up for the car reveal.
And the live stream had an absolute meltdown.
Absolutely lost it.
First and foremost, we tuned in.
The F1 stream completely muted.
We went over to then Sky Sports.
After it was really late already.
Yeah, it was late, wasn't it?
Yeah, you can imagine things were going wrong already.
And then I imagine they've gone, look, we're five, 10 minutes late.
We're just going to have to press play and see what happens.
And turns out seeing what happens was not the best idea,
because it did not go well.
That it was muted on the F1 channel.
It wasn't muted on Sky Sports, which was what we were watching on.
It wasn't the start and then...
Then it just ripped the cable out.
Yeah.
And then Formula One just gave up and just basically stopped doing the stream.
We said, I said this during the watch along, I would not want to be,
obviously they replayed it and that's probably for a very good reason,
why they went right back to the very start and replayed the whole thing.
But I would not want to be the person that basically got it wrong
and made sure Lawrence Stroll's speech couldn't be heard.
Yes, because at one point, we were so naive to think that it was all done live
and that Lawrence Stroll walking out on stage and doing his opening speech,
we wondered whether he was doing the same thing again
when the stream broke.
And then again, it was the arch.
Here we go again.
Yeah, it really was.
All over with Lawrence Stroll walking back out and then we're like,
right, what were the key moments of those first few minutes?
Okay, there was a fist bump between the two drivers.
Do they do that again?
We're like, no, it's the same one.
That's so upsetting.
And then we kind of got felt like quite a way into it after quite a long delay.
And then it froze again.
And then we got another bit where it said stream will resume or the event will resume,
the whole thing is always quite like James Bond vibes from the Aston Martin launch anyway.
Big echoy room for a start, Bond layer looking kind of crazy anyway.
And then the fact that it was like the event will resume when we can fix it.
I love that it was event will resume, which was the first one.
And then it broke again.
And they thought they could fool us by putting event will start shortly.
I'm like, no, I definitely watched I have definitely watched Lawrence Stroll come out on.
I've seen the desert shots.
I've seen Lawrence Stroll.
And then they just went screw it.
Let's play it from literally Rachel Brooks, who was frozen mid mid sentence.
Eventually it got going and continued to work to a certain degree, right?
It wasn't perfect.
The audio wasn't great.
You heard a producer at one point, definitely accidentally unmute his microphone and start
talking.
Yes, just during the bit where it said it was going to resume.
You just heard a little right.
Okay, that's good.
And then obviously the absolute best moment of the entire car launch.
No, not the car itself.
Adrian Newey having some sort of Skyrim.
Brodar moment if you play like Skyrim, like genuinely it was the loudest, most echoey thing.
I'm laughing, still thinking about it.
I will remember that car launch for the rest of my life at that moment alone.
If you joined us on stream, it was the funniest thing.
It caught us so off guard.
There was no better person for that to happen to either.
Like just for Adrian, it was absolutely brilliant.

Now, it was the best for all the wrong reasons.
Aston Martin are going to be fuming with how that's gone.
Lawrence Stroll, when he watches that back, oh, he's going to do some firing, I think.
But for us as fans, I've not laughed at a car launch like that for a very long time.
Yes, I'm laughing at the wrong things.
I'm laughing at technical difficulties.
I'm laughing at Adrian Newey booming over the microphone in an echo format.
However, we're going to remember it and we're going to remember the car.
Does it make the car any more appealing?
I don't think so.
But maybe this is the meta now, Tommy.
This is the absolute blueprints of how car launchers should go moving forward,
just completing utter technical problems.
Yes, maybe they just do it for the memes.
You know that meme that people do where they're like,
we got someone from Gen Z to edit our video?
It basically do that.
Just have ridiculous little gifs appearing on the screen and stuff like that.
So yeah, it was the best car launch.
It was the most memorable car launch of all of them for all the wrong reasons.
And honestly, in a weird way, it was the most fun stream we had.
It was kind of hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
And yeah, it was memorable.
I will, if you look back on launch season, what's the thing you remember?
It will be Adrian Newey doing his first radar moment, like crazy.
Right, let's get into the car, shall we?
And start with our thoughts on the livery.
Yes, so the livery is not changed a huge amount,
which is maybe no surprise.
Us and Martin have kind of got their colors down.
There was talk, wasn't there, when we're going all the way back to 2021 now,
where they first announced Us and Martin.
I don't think they got the color green right, and it looked black on TV.
And we said it wasn't very good.
They've got the green nailed now.
It's really, really nice.
And yeah, they've tried to, they do the occasional thing where they mix it up.
They've now put a black side pod on it with the electric yellowy green,
like the neon green, which I would have loved to have seen more of,
based on the kind of overalls that they shared,
and the fact that a lot of the branding that they shared beforehand
had the logo in that color and things.
And I thought they're maybe going to use that a bit more.
But it's nice.
It's not changed a huge amount.
But I can see why, because they've got it nailed,
and it's still a beautiful livery, even if it's not on,
which we'll talk about later, the card that probably will be on.
It might fit the real card better, maybe, as well.
Perhaps.
Yeah, I really love the livery.
I remember when it first got unveiled,
we were losing our minds, like, this is so cool.
Yeah, I like the little details, and I agree with you, Tommy,
in the sense of it would have been nice to see a little bit more of that.
What would you cut?
Is it an electric?
What is it?
I don't know, I just...
Color vix.
Yeah, it's like...
Aston Martin.
Like a weird green, or is it yellow?
But I struggle with colors anyway.
But either way, I like that sort of detail on it.
I'm not a massive fan of the pure blue rear wing.
I liked what they did last year, where it was...
It was still a Ramco, but they had, like, green fading into blue.
I felt like that merged with the car a little bit nicer.
They've changed the air box from white last year to black this year,
which I think works reasonably well.
Also, if you want your logo...
I thought it was about the Barclays, sorry,
that you mentioned about the light blue.
You just made me think about this, like,
looking at this picture we're looking at now.
A white logo on light blue does not pop.
You cannot see the logo at all.
You'd think you'd want, you know, something...
That's why they probably did the fade last year,
because you can at least read it a bit better.
But overall, it's a very, very strong livery.
The hubcaps, is that new?
The Celsius thing that they've put on?
That's a bit...
I don't really like that,
because Pirelli's already got their written...
They've got their branding on the tyre,
and then you've got another brand,
of course, you won't see it when they're moving,
very much when they're stopped.
That's very true.
Yeah, you'll only, hopefully, for Aston Martin's sake,
we don't see them stopped at the side of the track a lot.
So in a weird way, yeah.
It's odd, because the Chrome, the Google Chrome,
is obviously the famous wheel cover sponsor.
That kind of works still when it's spinning,
because it's just colours,
whereas having an actual piece of text on it
is quite a odd choice, but they obviously, you know,
they got that dollar-dollar bill.
They love having sponsors.
Okay, next question.
People on Patreon remember,
cheap seats, how much of Newey's design is Aston hiding
in the livery reveal this close to pre-season testing?
I don't think there's a single part of this car
that will be in testing, not a chance.
It's fine.
You can see, obviously, that the front wing is 2026 spec, but...
It's a show car.
Definitely a show car.
Exactly.
It's not a spec in the sense of what you'll see in testing,
but just spec in the sense of it's not an old car.
That is a show car, as you say, Tommy,
and Adrian knew he not going to show nothing.
Maybe that's why he delayed the stream.
He's delaying everything.
He's trying to throw his competitors off at all times.
This is very much just a livery reveal.
So, of course, he's hiding absolutely everything.
100%.
You see teams do this so much now.
One thing we've got to mention,
the Williams launch is their renders that they shared.
They didn't actually even have a suspension
that was doing the rounds where they hadn't even...
Is that the James Valls?
No suspension car.
I think the wheels would literally fall off.
But maybe it's some genius bit of design.
But you look at this.
Obviously, we already know what the Aston Martin looks like
because it was on track.
They shared some pictures.
It had crazy sidepods.
It had the rear suspension attached to the rear wing,
which is not the case in these pictures.
So, this is not the car.
It's the livery.
And it looks incredibly basic.
This car, which shows that it is just...
This is not Newies, hopefully, masterpiece.
This is just a show car with the livery on it.

can Alonso get his long-awaited win with this car?
I really, really, really, really hope so.
But I'm not too confident.
There was so much talk about Aston Martin going into the season
before we saw any testing.
I saw really on this hype train of,
well, they've got Adrian Newie.
Of course, they're going to be amazing.
They're going to be the best.
Alonso is going to challenge for the championship.
People saying it's going to be Alonso versus Russell
for the championship.
And Adrian Newie is going to make the greatest car of all time.
And they're going to be amazing.
I don't like how much in the talk that they were...
When they were chatting, they used words like challenging.
And Alonso at one point said,
he said something along the lines of,
I wouldn't worry too much about what the car is like
at the start of the season with these regulations.
It's all about the middle part of the season.
I was like, I'm sorry.
What happened to you 24-0ing every single race?
Fernando, please.
So yeah, not filled with as much confidence.
And I said this before, this is...
It was a very similar launch, actually,
minus technical issues that we had way back in 2021
where Lawrence Stroll stood in front of everyone and said,
five-year plan.
And what a five-year plan,
because they've got amazing facilities now.
They've got Adrian Newie on board.
This is that year that they promised.
So they have to deliver.
And I don't know.
Adrian Newie read something.
He did some column for Sky Sports
and said there were four months behind or something as well.
It's not looking good from chatter.
Maybe it's all sandbag chat, I hope so.
Yeah, we will find out in a matter of weeks.
But I think for me, I came into this season,
obviously with my predictions and stuff.
And I just felt as though Aston Martin
coming into an engine formula,
going with a team Honda that are with one team themselves,
I just, in such a massive shift of technology
and the way in which energy is powered through the...
Well, it's like a 50-50 spit now, isn't it?
It's much more different, the inner workings of an engine.
I just felt as though the amount of mileage and data
they're going to get as a one-shop team
is just going to put them behind the Mercedes and Ferrari.
So this was one of the main reasons why I felt as though,
unless Honda have a master stroke,
they're incredible engineers.
We know what Honda can do.
But they're going to have to do it out the blocks.
I don't personally see it.
I think they will struggle no matter what Adrian Newie cooks up.
Because Adrian Newie's expertise,
along with the amazing team around him,
can only get him so far.
You've said this before, Tommy, with Red Bull, for example,
and how the Red Bull aerodynamically years ago
was fantastic.
But they didn't have the engine of the Mercedes in the back of it.
Well, yeah, like what happened in 2014,
that Vettel was...
I think he'd just been on a spell of nine wins in a row,
completely dominating.
And it's Adrian Newie in a new regulation set,
you think surely you're going to be amazing.
But they didn't have the engine.
So I really hope that Honda do deliver.
I think it would just be
Pete Fernando Alonso,
that he's finally got an Adrian Newie car and he's got his...
His engine formula.
Yeah, and he's got his GP2 engine in there as well,
which has cursed him his whole career,
it feels like, not just at McLaren,
but in IndyCar when he did the Indy 500 and it broke down.
And then if it also denies him a chance of the fact
that he's got this amazing car and he's running out of time,
and it would be amazing to see him at the very least win,
obviously dreaming of the fact
if he could win a championship or something.
But at this rate, I'm just like, please,
I just want to see him on the podium again
or winning a Grand Prix.
So yeah.
That would be amazing to see Alonso back
on the top step of the podium.
It would be such an insane moment.
And I genuinely do hope that the car is good,
but the signs aren't pointing that way currently.

What do you make of Adrian's comment
about how overtaking might be difficult in 2026?
Now, I didn't quite get that from what he said.
He was comparing 2022 to the end of 2025
in the fact that at the start of 2022,
we had amazing racing.
Which we did.
It was absolutely awesome.
Charlotte Clair versus Max Verstappen.
That was so cool to watch,
but by the end of the regulations,
the drivers weren't feeling the same difference
as they had at the start.
So how I'm reading this is that perhaps,
and you know, it's very easy.
I don't think he worded it in a way that...
I mean, he's Adrian Newey.
He words it in a way that he wants.
You know, he's literally like the god of aerodynamics.
But how I have sort of absorbed this,
my initial reaction was, what did you just say?
But then I think he means,
by the end of this regulation set,
we're completely cooked
and nobody will be able to overtake ever again.
But at the start, we might get some good racing.
So hopefully, at the start,
we're going to get the best racing ever,
even though the start of the regulation
is more likely to have a massive field spread.
Yes.
Hopefully is not the case.
But at least they can race between teammates, hopefully.
Look, it's going to be so complicated,
the fact that we're going into another test,
which they're not showing all of.
These cars just sound so complicated
from what they're kind of saying.
Even the launch video isn't going into the full thing.
We've said, haven't we, on stream
and maybe other podcasts of like,
it's going to be really interesting
to see how Formula One shares that information
like on screen of like all this battery power
and usage and stuff, because kind of need to see that.
You know, we see when DRS is activated
and this is the new thing.
So we need to like know what's going on.
I can already feel a rant in the first,
after the first race of the season going,
we had no idea what was going on, where are all the graphics?
And I'm sorry, but that would be peak Formula One
because it seems to happen all the time.
Like, do you remember when they first introduced the halo
and they put that camera on and they were like,
oh yeah, you can't see anything.
And then they moved it up like later.
Do you remember when they first introduced it?
Everyone went, wait, they didn't move the camera.
Yeah.
Yeah, that doesn't fill me with confidence.
No.
But maybe they've learned from their lesson.
They love a little Bahrain FP1 sort of graphics out.
Oh yeah.
Maybe that's why we're not seeing the whole of testing.
They're doing seven hours of trying to figure out
what the broadcast is going to look like.
But look, I don't think we're completely finished immediately.
We should still be excited for the start of the 2026 season.
However, I think Adrian Newie is saying
we should look at another sport come 28, 29, 30.
That's the kind of years that maybe, Tommy, we finally move into tennis.
So look at that one.
