This is professional radio. Has front wheel drive.
Have you got anyone you want to think?
Just myself. And now we'll do the after
hours. Don't just gentlemen, What would
you go for? Thanks to us in there.
OK. And because there's not a
supercar, there is. It's not ordinary.
Perfection comes in the form of two letters.
A&U Long live MY Ltd Welcome to Car Talk.
It's Tuesday night. It's me, Maddie Jay here with
Mr. David Prince and Mr Scotty Dog Johnson.
How are you, gentlemen? Pretty well, thank you.
You're doing pretty good. Thank you very much.
No, it's good. Good to see both your lovely
faces as it is every week. How has your week been going,
gentlemen? We'll start with Mr. David
Prince. What's been happening in your
car world? But in my car world are there's
been a bit happening this week, actually a bit of movement.
We've got an event coming up next weekend.
We're re redisplay ring a collection of Civics for the Sandown Historics here in Melbourne next weekend after the success of the Phillip Island event we run in March.
They've asked us to to rerun it but I think it was mainly so they could get their FL 5 Type R course cars.
I think they ensuite with Honda that way so so yeah, that's coming up this weekend. So I've done a bit of a juggle.
I actually picked up my Civic Waggon the other day after.
One of our fellow club members did me a huge favour and did quite a bit of work on it, but that was how's that?
How's that running? It ran like a little train, but
yeah, looks up in the Dandenong ranges in Sylvan and so I.
Chopped it up with some premium unleaded and.
Yeah, it just went like a little train.
The the temperature gauge didn't move, ran smoothly and didn't miss a beat. So very happy with that.
That's awesome. That will be off to to a new
home hopefully soon. That once, I think now it's
running properly, I think it'll be a good one.
It's it's it's much more, a much more saleable proposition.
So yeah, that'll be the next thing for that car.
But I then I left it at a Mates factory in in Bayswater and picked up the AH, Grand Prix Edition Civic, because that's probably a better car to have off for the display on Saturday.
That's already on complaint, so that's a very clean a little original car that was released by Honda Australia to celebrate the domination of through the 80s of the the Honda Motor Company in Formula One Grand Prix.
They released the Civic and and an Integra 8687 called them Grand Prix editions, put stickers on them.
But. Sadly, with typical, no one said
that that's a bit rude. Typically it sadly based on the
base model Civic, so I didn't even have a Taco, but it did pick up a few little, a little body kit and some 13 inch yellow wheels and stuff like that. So it's a really cool looking,
you go bit of striping and Grand Prix edition and blazing down the side of it, so that's something a bit different.
I managed to get the real cylinders back from the break place. They sorted you out or.
They sorted me out. Thankfully, they were able to
find. Find the seals that were
required to finish that job. Um, so I had the two rear ones
rebuilt and with new seals, and I also had a set of a spare set of front ones. So I thought, well, I might as
well get those done as well. So I've got them handy, and B if
I, you know, if I need them or if anybody else needs them, came to a grand total of $108.00 for the fall, so I thought that was
It's been a funny sort of week because it's sort of sort of feels like a Sunday night here in Melbourne given that it's Melbourne Cup day. So there's been all sorts of.
Um. Just one of those weekends where
where was probably longer than it was planned to be and then a lot of people took Monday off. I've actually worked.
It was a dream getting around traffic wise late yesterday really. Um.
But yes, that is a bit happening.
I'm gonna have to also. Pick up of the LPN's been on the
road again too and I'll pick that up later this week.
Now I've got a space, that scamp sized hole in my garage.
I can. I might bring that home to it.
Was that picking up, Picking up parts as it was out or?
No, not this time. No, that's not this time around.
That was Spy doing that last week.
But yeah, it hasn't been put into that sort of service, but the the bonnet cables been repaired, so that's not an issue anymore. That was a bit of a problem and
another batteries in it now, so it starts on the turn of the key, so I feel. That's exciting.
So I think that's about it for now, Mr. Enough.
What are you doing? It's been pretty busy for this
weekend and today also. But not really car wise
unfortunately I I tried to. Get my car booked in for a
roadworthy for that Monday. Because it was working from
home, I thought, cool, I could drop it off, but they're either nothing or they're closed. So.
There are a lot of workshops closed I think yesterday.
Yeah. So a lot of them are closed.
I I tried to book it in obviously a fair bit in advance, but. Nothing, unfortunately.
So it makes it very, very tricky.
Hmm. When you're working Monday to
Friday. Unless I can get one that I can
drop it off on a Saturday or something or I don't know.
I'll do my best to try and organise something to get it in because time is moving a very, very fast.
There is not long so see how I go my I'm sure it's not going to pass straight away. There'll be a couple things
probably, but. I'll find something.
They always do, don't they? Always.
Do you like their job? Isn't it Really.
Just as long as they can quickly fix it and get it done.
Were properly would be marvellous, hmm.
Does it have a permit on it at the moment or not yet?
No. No, no.
They're only workshops near where you work.
No, no, now not near where I work or anything.
I mean, yeah, if there was, I'd I'd try that.
But yeah, I'm just thinking now there's there's nothing.
Even close by. Everything's at least.
At 10:15 minutes away, yeah. From my work, but yeah, I'm
pretty sure it's drivable. And what are they like with
rims? They might be too bad.
Obviously they've gotta be, as far as I know.
I think they've gotta be within. Two inches of the original
diameter, yeah. That's fine.
That's what I was. That's what I thought.
I made sure it is. And it doesn't stick out of the
guards. It doesn't.
Do anything? It doesn't do anything like
that, so I couldn't see why they wouldn't pass.
OK. They are only, yeah, two inches
bigger. That's how long the tyres.
The tyres are brand new. OK, well, that's.
Good. They're probably a couple years
old, Oregon. You.
I reckon you'll be right, dude. OK, there's school life.
They're still nice and fresh. I got some good, yeah, they're
good. Decent tyres on it and fits
properly. There's no poke.
There's none of that, so. No spaces, no nothing.
So I I couldn't see why that wouldn't pass.
Now our Oregon I reckon you be Oregon be right.
Just getting that done and yeah, I'm sure has a saying they'll find something small, probably some bushes on the rear or something like that they'll find, but I feel like I've rectified majority of the safety issue.
Probably more than you need needed to do for that for that one. But you're right, I'll find
something. Yeah, they probably get you for
like a like an alignment or something cause you, you know, you've done all that suspension work, so.
Yeah, yeah. I mean the alignment is done on
when they did the whole front suspension with the stock, the stock wheels on the front, OK. And I think you'd be right.
Then yeah, so that's probably going to be a little bit off.
Putting on these rims now, but that's fine.
I I was going to do that anyway when I got on the road was to Chuck it in for a an alignment. Get that sorted by yeah, that
sounds good to me. I can you, I can that will, that
will you know the the quicker they do that, the the better and you'll be be ready to go. Yeah.
And then I'll have to ask you what the next step is, cause I don't know you, you've got someone out there at a very high member of a an esteemed car club on this chat, so they can tell you all the stuff you need to all you need to do, yeah.
Yeah, OK. We, we, we know people.
That's alright. Yeah, I'd like you.
Know without club. But I know a few clubs it would
just take, I don't mean take anybody Scotty to.
I'm not meaning to cast distortions on your dispersions, on your character or anything but.
Yeah, I mean, there are still some clubs around that will actually just allow you to join the club and put the car on club plates in the same sort of operations.
So we could just beautiful. What about you Maddie updates
with me. I've been doing my amateur.
I've been dealing that for the last, you know, week and a bit which which is which has been a lot of fun.
I've gotta use the days on it cause it's there.
The next permits about to about to start next month so.
So we're using the days up on that have noticed that there is a beginning a warring amount of oil underneath it.
So that remain is definitely done.
It needs to get done properly. So I will be doing that
hopefully these Christmas holidays drop it off and either pull them out myself with the help of right now or I will just just leave it in his trusty old school Toyota knowledge hands and he'll be and he'll be right to do it.
So I've kind of stopped driving that just cause I'm like it.
I mean it's fine, but I'm topping it up with all keep it, keeping it, you know, keeping it level.
But I just just don't want that, you know that that big risk of anything happening too much. So I'll kind of I've kind of
ease up on driving it you know everyday I went and saw my scamp I went which which was parked next to Redner's SCAMP.
The front of his work is this cancer is at the front of his workshop. So he's yeah he's excited by his
new little project which which is he's like I wanna get it running and I'm gonna just drop it straight home and then working at home so I can you know at night time just tinker away on it. And so he's like I gotta clean
clean the whole fuel system probably read you the whole fuel system and he's like I was like I'll try it at the start but yes to get the whole key set because it didn't have a key.
So he's he's spoken to a locksmith and locksmiths coming come on the door for him apparently so.
So once you once he does that he will be driving it home and then getting getting getting to getting to work on it like you know you know in his in his own time as little as his little project he's excited for it and so yeah he's that that that's it was good to see him good seem happy about about something because he's always he's a miserable man sometimes so.
Would you be happy? I wonder if it's worth me
sending him a couple of keys that the locksmith could key to the locks too. Yeah, that'll probably be a
graph. You've got a spare.
If you got a spare one or two, that would be amazing.
Let me have a look at that later tonight when I'm when I'm when I'm done. I'm like if I can find you with
the same code on. Um, yeah, that that could work
really well, yeah, cause cause he's like he's.
Your tiny little key there. Tiny smoked Turkey.
Yeah, miniscule little key. So you're not gonna find those
that quick keys are us or anything.
Well, it's spoke to his locksmith.
Guy came in and the guy laughed at him and he was like, it was like, is an older locksmith. He's like, yeah, he's got a
really tiny. He's like he's like I don't even
think I got any left but I'll have a look if I got any.
He's like I I was gonna carry him in my truck but I gotta be key collection at home so OK so he's he's gonna have a look but probably won't So if you do I'll let him know and and sure he can he can I can. Just work in the post to you.
Yeah, that that would that would be good.
What have I done? Kara lated on my end, drove a
brand new Outback XT and drove my brother's new Santa Fe Highlander. Yeah, like, you know, comparison
back to back, like family cars, like they're both really, really good. Got nothing but good things to
say about both of those cars actually So for SUV's if that's if that's what kind of your thing those are two pretty good options the the Hyundai is nice to finished and got nicer amenities and way more bells and whistles but the the Outback was probably the the more sure footed driving or will drive and everything so did have a bit more role in it compared to the compared to the Honda which I thought was a bit was a bit interesting so but but yeah both both really really good cars So yeah if that's kind of thing absolutely have a have a have a
look at that so I thought I'd give you some some good consumer advice which we thermally do on the show.
Pretty pricey price entry levels too aren't they Really they are.
So like for example, the one I drove was the Sport XT, so that wasn't the top spec and that was in the 50s and then the Highlander I drove 68. I think on the on the road
there's a lot of money just so so yeah that was that was pretty good. But again I mean everything is
kind of getting up there though like that price range to be fair like it's it's a, it's a you know there are a lot of careful for what you get. But when you look at the price
of everything else it's like well you want something similar from Germany for that with all those bells, whistles or even with none of those bullshit is still over 100 grand.
So and you know I would prefer A5 year warranty or a seven year warranty with a Kia then you know dropping 150 grand on a Tiguans on a Touareg and and be be burnt after about two years.
So yeah, but look it's it's one of those one of those things I guess is like well this is kind of the cars that we, we we we really sell here. So you know I guess I'm kind of
kind of gotta get used to driving them and see what they're like. And yeah look you know if you if
you have to if you had to do it, they're they're they're too good options And so the Highlander was the the 3.5 V 6 front wheel
drive dual clutch and I still don't see a point of a dual clutch you know in a big SUV or car in general like a road car.
I said before in this show it is a pointless transmission and it's almost it's sort of like a performance car race car.
The the CVT in the in the Outback wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The actually drove quite well.
I just want to I just what would make those cars better.
We just be a conventional automatic that I just just makes sense but who am I to say I'm not I'm not the bean counters.
But yeah that's been pretty much it on my end gentleman.
Oh, actually, David Prince, I got a story for you.
So I was working at super cheap and customer comes in and he's got a 2016 Honda Civic and they they take a believer 0 W 20 or something along those lines. I'll double check that now
actually or Fact Check myself what it takes And anyway I checked from newline I checked from penrod I checked from Castro all day Lube guides to you know to to basically you know cross check that this was the right oil and and and it was anyway I said to the guy you know you've got to take this certain oil he's like no I don't.
I'm like, I'm like, yeah, you do.
And he then proceeded to tell me that I was wrong and his mechanic was right And he's like, oh, but my, but my car has done, you know, 170,000. I'm like, yeah, but you can't
replace metal with oil. To which you then proceeded to
tell me that pretty much I was wrong and that, you know, I don't know anything. And I was like sure that's fine.
So I was. I was wasn't that I was annoyed.
I was more kind of you know I just didn't really know what to say. I was I was like well that's
that's quite kind of interesting.
So I I was left kind of just kind of gobsmacked as the as the as to how how that worked. But yeah he was he was adamant
that I was wrong and and and then the oil he chose was like a really cheap oil. This is still a good oil but
like the you know like like like the cheaper oil and it was like a 1540 and I'm like that is you know considering what that car supposed to have that is way too thick and he's like it is done it's 170,000 guys I'm like yeah you know it has but um just just would not would not budget and I was like you know what you I'm like you do you man like you do you so.
Take go home with that one. I know you went home with the
with the the the the 15 W 40 and when it when that car should be taking. I'll tell you what it should be
taking. I'm just fine.
I'm just finding the car. I remember.
I remember what it was or cause I wanted to tell you about to tell you the story Mr Prince. Cause I thought because I
actually quite I quite like. I in the back of my head I'm
like oh if David was here he'd be like having a heart attack because he's about to destroy the Civic.
But yeah, I was is yeah, it it's like.
Saying it's like I like that. Let me just say it takes a 0 W
20. Sorry.
It's it was the 1.5 turbo 0 W 20 and you know I said to him, I
said look 1540 is gonna be way too thick for it.
You're gonna damage it. He's like Nah, Nah, Nah, Mommy
cutting my mechanic. Mechanic.
I'm like OK, dude you you do you bro like that that's cool.
I was just like do you get people like that in in in your industry They were like you with you know I know how to fix this better. I could do this better.
And by completely doing that if I mean we all get in all different industries but like. OHS.
Facility all the time. I love when people ring me and
say look, it's only gonna take a couple of minutes to do.
OK, and or, you know, yeah, just just get some of that stuff you've got and just, you know, you know, stick that on there and then, you know, put it put a heat gun on and they're serious.
You know, I've got plenty of people that will have a joke to me about it. But when they're serious, it's
it's a bit scary. So yeah, when I, when I was
designing and you know, people say, oh, you know, I I need a website or any of this. And then you tell the price and
they'd be like, but you just gotta click a few buttons and and stuff like that. I'm like, it doesn't work that
way. It's a it's a whole process.
You know, it's I I tell people that I was graphic design and then their response would be like, oh, do you draw?
And I'm like, I'm like, yeah, I joined and they then they'd like completely put their nose up. You're like, oh, he just draws,
you know, that's not a real job. But then I proceeded to tell
everybody I was a doctor and nobody ever questioned me for about like 2 years. Which was?
Which was? Which was quite funny, but
anyway, that's another story of of my life, but yeah.
Well, you're lucky cause I've got, I've had 38 years of people saying to me, oh, so you're the Leatherman, are you?
And it's got all sorts of undesirable connotations.
Yes, nothing wrong with leather. Give me wrong.
I was. I was not going to to continue
that. But yes, I.
Understand. Actually the the best one I I
had I I did have an argument with the head of Porsche Cars Australia. But then I had a fault with a a
mark on the seat of a car, a 911, and they said that it wasn't the people I normally deal with through Porsche Melbourne, which is a separate division to Porsche Cars Australia. But this was a.
Estimated raised that raised the concern higher than Porsche Melbourne and and the guy was a guy was said something about you know we'd expect you know what's happened here.
You know we'd expect much better from you know our full leather interiors. And I said well actually that
part of the car is actually vinyl.
It's not leather. You know, it's like the because
the rear seats in those was leather.
Unless you ordered the 15 or $20,000 option of full leather the back seat was vital and he said no.
I think you'll find it's actually clever and I sort of dodged myself. OK, how do we handle this?
I said it is actually Vinyl. I can you know.
No, no, you're wrong. I said ohk, OK, I'm sorry.
Been doing this in awhile. I think I I thought I could
diligence between Vinyl and that now.
Then he had just had me sort of guessing myself and thought oh, how embarrassing in front of the head of Porsche cars Australia.
You know, but he was just obviously he was head of Porsche cars because he could, you know think that he could railroad everybody. But I was right.
It was it was vinyl. So.
Did you did Did you tell him that they well, did you know it?
Is it is, it is well. Did he did he come around in the
end or did you just not bother? From memory he was.
He just pretended that that, yeah, it must have been a running change made because they were all letter, you know?
Yes, that's absolutely wasn't the case.
But yeah, it's really interesting when you come across people that don't value what you do or don't don't take your opinion and and you can't do anything about it, you've just gotta if they're adamant, you know that they're that they're they're right. You're not going to change their
mind very easily. So it's a whole personality
type, I think, but yeah. If you get people out of saying
1 + 1 is 6 and then and then adamant that it is, you're like, OK, that's fine. That's right.
That's right. More powerfully, he's He's 2016.
Civic Survives to the next Oil change but.
I don't think it would be very happy, absolutely.
I don't think we're happy at all.
It's a, you know, 0 W 24 reason for the turbo.
Yeah, to get those all those little, you know, oil lines and everything, but don't say anymore anybody.
I think the professional Lube guides from both from all from Castrol, Newlon and Penrith would.
Excuse me, would wouldn't be wrong if they're all promoting AA0 W 20? But anyway, that's it.
It's it's like an old Falcon. You can put like bloody, you
know, cooking oil in it and still run.
Anyway that's that's a that's a that's a whole another whole nother world. But I wanted to talk to you guys
before you do a topic like again driving, driving that some new cars recently and having a having a little bit of a bit of a play. And I've driven a few new cars
over the last couple of years and I'm noticing A worrying trend. And I think David, I think you
probably going to pick up on it as well like especially with the interiors you can see where the pennies are being pinched.
So like for example on the sides of the seat it's like this fabric material even what's a leather seat?
So what you can't see it and you put you put your hand there like cause. Yeah.
And it's it's just like they say that a little bit of that, a little bit of leather. They put a bit of fabric there.
Yeah. And I find that really annoying.
Like, you know, it's how hard can we just put the whole seat to just just just just to do it, you know?
And The thing is when that cost of that that one piece of leather is amortised over the hundreds of thousands of cars they build, then it makes a difference.
You know. And if they can you know save.
I don't know how much it would be you know, even even down at the sense probably for for that much, you know that piece of leather. But if you say that over you
know a hundred 200,000 cars then you know you've made a saving.
I always remember I've got a good mate that I've known for years through the industry is a retired trimmer and he worked at Toyota for about 35 years. I think I might have mentioned
it before. He's got roles of old Corolla CS
fabric in his in his garage and you know if you're restoring an old Corolla this is the man to see because he's got got rolls of fabric. When the model changed over,
they'd just throw out all the all the current ones and he just drag them out of the skip and take them out.
Do you reckon, Mr Prince, he could, you know, if we find an old couch, we could use that material and redo the couch in that in this scene? I reckon that would be amazing.
Imagine having nice CSX Toyota Corona, you know, insert.
Outstanding and nice. Epic.
But I always remember him telling me a story where they had the engineers come out from Japan and to the trim shop and they made them tighten their seams by like half an inch on each seam so make the covers fit tighter.
So for the that that that you know half an inch strip of of material that they saved on each seat that was that was considered to them like cutting their costs and a real bonus.
So yeah, they're always going to be those sort of corner corners can if you like most, most cars, particularly 4 wheel drives, the side panel of the drivers seat where you climb in and out even ranges and all those sorts of things.
That part fails because it's vinyl and it gets moved over.
That's the highest square point in the car.
And yeah that that part on everything from you know ranges to BMW's is the first first part to go.
And the problem with trying to repair it just with the techniques we use, I mean you're trying to cobble together something that's damaged. I mean, you're much better to
replace those having sections with the new piece of trim, which is the next step up from what I do.
But but yeah, yeah, yeah, you're quite right.
If you look closely, you can certainly see evidence where there where they're cutting corners.
Yeah. Because like I I put my hand
down the side of the seat when I put my seat belt in and I'm like and on both the Santa Fe and the and the in the back and some other cars I've driven as well recently.
And I mean I expected from MGS and stuff which which which had the same thing but yeah it was it was like oh that's that's the fabric there that I can see whether whether with a penny penny there. But it's not even though it's
like my brother see 63 on you know underneath the seat like you know at at the edge of where where your knees go where you need the knee roll is underneath there is a little strip of you know cheap fabric and I'm like well that's you know it's it it shows up there. It's not.
It's not just. You know, everyday brands, it's
premium brands as well. And Porsche, yeah, doors are
dollar correct. Yeah, so.
Yeah, in your, in your opinion David, with interiors it's it's and this is what I'm pretty much alluding to.
Have you noticed that over the years despite?
The advancements in technology and and and and products the the decline in quality is, is that is that a thing is do you reckon that's during the quality has declined or or has it kind of changed over time and a lot of it's got to do with fashion I mean I think back to the 80s and the I mean the NB Techs in in in federal benches was always just the absolute best material in the car. It was like so durable and and
and war really really well and early into the early 2000s on the materials they used those cars really deteriorated in quality to the point now even I worked on a car the other day that was a 2019 I think it was yeah 2019 GL OHS insert whatever letter of the alphabet you wanna put it after it but it's it was a G or something SUV and it had that had the Ambler interior
which is the new version of MBX not a scrap on the old stuff and that have started to crack already and I said hang on this is probably a warranty issue isn't it?
No three year warranty on that car up you know until three or four months after it was released then it became A5 year warranty. So that car was out of warranty.
But yeah, so I I repaired it probably won't last long because once that that starts cracking due to to use and where then it renders it unrepairable with the sort of welding technique.
But we can tidy it up for how long those someone elses guess.
And then there's also been a huge push with recyclable material, plastic materials and things in cars.
So the quality and the makeup of the the chemical makeup of the plastic has changed too. So we went through a period with
really harsh, I know it's one of the better word, plasticky looking plastics in them that scratched really easily and marked really easily. So that was another another sort
of stage of development. I think the quality, all the
improvements they've made now to those recyclable materials is is really evident. And the other thing too, I think
the the quality of a car can be measured by the touch point.
So all those points that you you've actually touched with your hands when you're driving or getting in or out of the car, as long as they make those feel premium then the the car automatically feels better quality.
But yeah you look through any what kind of spring to mind or I don't know probably you know the Daihatsu and those sorts of things. You know even up till the end
they were all pretty harsh in the plastic trims and stuff, even some Hondas in the mid 2000s.
I remember the third Gen CRV's that the plastics in those marked really easily so especially in the load area where people load them up with cases and things like that and scratch them repaired lots of those in my time too.
They repair pretty well, but still they they marked really easily in the process, so automatically they pretty quickly look tatty and and and ratty.
That's something like I'm I'm in the Fiesta forums obviously with my car and I from from all accounts the seats are wearing, we're OK. But like the the sense disco
materials that that that you know, that fake that's viral really at the end of the day, isn't it?
And I'll put seat covers on on the on the car you know cause I cause my biggest issue is like when you go over the side bowls you just gonna rub it to to pieces and just just destroy it.
I I've you know I've I've seen people get their range of seats like my my brother's first Ranger.
Yeah. Well second Rangers I should
say. Yeah.
The the the bottom the base of the secret got replaced on the warranty because it just was just just just got there just was no good and and he went and asked and and when he when he said to the lady on the phone about you know hey my obviously it's you know collapsing falling apart they're like Oh yeah it's super common all ranges are doing it just bringing in we'll swap it over for you and they would literally have boxes of brand new you know bases of seeds just just one in one out one in. Yeah, so.
Pretty crazy. Interestingly in my Volkswagen
I've had I bought a set of those super super trim as the company that does them, the neoprene seat covers and they have worn incredibly well. They're exactly my second Caddy.
So the first one I got was 2016 I think.
So you what's that we're up to sort of six years, 6-7 years that would be right because I changed them over to the new van. They were still in really good
condition gave the wash and they've they've been really fine and they totally protect the the sides of the seats and the and the and the faces of the seats they've been really good So there is near prints are really good material I think they should consider using in in parts of cars.
Well, it's funny you say that because like you obviously things like putting in the Fiesta when they when they aren't, if you've seen it, Davidson.
But they they they fit really well and I've got them custom made, but. Subaru with the the Outback XT
well the Outback sport I should say that middle range comes with their Prince seats so like they're actually they're neoprene so you can they're they're water resistant they think they're waterproof actually neoprene to it to be fair and yeah and like really really hard wearing interior I could see why people that you into the outdoors that'd be that'd be your that'll be your pick because you can just you know yeah. So for people that don't know I
mean neoprene is basically wetsuit material.
So it's a rubberised compound with a with a a fabric almost canvas backing London to it or canvas like material bonded to it and that's what gives you the and yes so the the the rubber takes the shape of the seat and that that canvas material that's bonded to it sort of protects the rubber.
So yeah I mean the water is not gonna go through the rubber.
So yeah that would be they're they're great on on that level.
Yeah, any other thing that really quickly dates, interiors I find is the use of piano black to so many cars drives me spare it scratches and marks so easily.
It shows all the dust #1. Prince.
Fingerprints. That's right.
But yeah, scratches incredibly easily.
So I'm forever now getting people saying OHS, can you redo the piano black in my car? I said no, no, no.
Yeah, I mean the only way to do it is to actually go to a panel shop and get them to just ultra high gloss black spray resprayed in black. But yeah, it's just one of those
things that the designers might think it looks fantastic and really funky and cutting edge, but it's not practical.
No. Like, you know, one of the cost
step was looking at was a Sportage and lovely car.
But like there's the little centre bits all piano black and I'm like, if I was to get this car I would get a piece of contact. Yeah.
Put over the top and then just because it'll just, it'll just do my head in like I couldn't, I couldn't do it.
I actually couldn't do it. Either that or I could get like
a clear film, you know, clear film wrap, just pop it over the top and then it's just going to scratch like absolute crazy.
So yeah, that that's, that's me with that.
But anyway, interesting to hear your thoughts.
Gentlemen, Scotty came up with a really, really good idea for tonight for for a topic. What was your topic?
And and let's let's let's get straight into it.
Yes, so looking at special editions.
Because car manufacturers love to release special edition.
They love, they love a special edition.
They. They.
And I think we kind of know they use them to get rid of some old stock, 100% lots of. Stickers and.
No. Are you sure, Scotty?
Are you sure? I gotta feeling.
And it's funny how they call them special editions, but I'm pretty sure 30-40 years down the track, if you've got one, it's not gonna increase value. It's just those I love to think
that it would. Yeah, I love to think that it.
Would it's it's funny that you cause a good man of mine.
I think, I think yours both named George, who is a picnic.
With me is my housemates, my housemates partner basically his parents have got a Vt Olympic edition, you know Commodore and and and want that to be with with money.
Ohe yeah, but and his parents like, oh, you know it's an Olympic edition. It's gonna they bought a brand
new The cars had it, but they they've kept it.
And and George is like, it's not gonna be worth anything.
It's a it's it's not like an S or something but it's an Olympic edition. You know it's it was so they're
you know, they're convinced it will be worth something.
But in a lot of ways, it's not exactly exactly that that point, is it, Scotty? No, it's usually maybe some
decals put on it a different badge or special colours, or you might get a. Different rims or something put
on it. It's usually very, very
minuscule and I think that's probably what keeps them as not being valuable. Yeah, so, so from what I've
seen, you've got the the Jeep, you got the Jeep Track Hawk, which is phenomenal machine, that thing.
But then you've got the Jeep Black Hawk and I think from what I've seen, it's just got some black rims.
You can get different colours, not just black, but it's got some black rims and some other. Black bits and the Black Hawk
badge and stuff put on it. I believe, I believe they got a
Trailhawk which is actually trail rated and they're actually good off road. Cause I've had proper you know
it's been probably went over they actually got real proper capability but like other ones like the Black Edition what have you done made things black like come on man.
Yeah, yeah, that's what I was really aiming aiming at with.
This is just those real terrible little gimmicks that just equate to nothing. Hasn't been tested.
There's nothing special. I just slapped something on a
sticker. I was saying earlier that the
civic groups here at the moment the Grand Prix shouldn't.
I mean they even based it on the base model.
So no Taco, just recessed headlights rather than the nice flush fitting ones the GL had. But no, no, people are just
going to buy it because it's it's a limited edition.
They did the same a bit later on with the Indie Edition.
Ek based that on the CXI. So really, drums note, no Taco,
no nothing but alloy wheels in the spoiler and an Indie addition badge on the tailgate. So, you know, I mean they they
phoned that one into. I think that was the the Ford
F-150. Harley Davidson Edition, yeah,
Yes, yeah. That was huge too.
I think from memory, I think there's much in that one.
You had a badge and you had a you had a you had a a a seat emblem. Harley Davidson.
I'm. I'm just like dude, No, like.
I mean, it could be, it could be, it could be the.
What's it called? I mean, Ford's done some
shockers like they've done the the Ford Mustang night pony.
I don't know if you guys ever saw that night pony.
Yeah, for the, for the, for the market.
So basically I'm not running. I had this up because I wanted
to tell you guys and you really really brought out.
For us, the public today, When You Must Think Special Edition and the follow ups with Shadow Stallion, Alistair, Shadow Mia and Night Painting, we can all agree that three of those points are acceptable. And yet Ford went for the worst
option. Yes.
Is it available here or is it going to be available here or it's? I think that was.
I think that was an American only one, but but basically.
It's gotta be, you know, you're trying to, I mean, everyone was my pony car, right? But like, you know, it makes it
sound a bit, you know, it's not really an aggressive, aggressive the night pony and everything. It's just I don't know.
What the hell were they thinking in the My Little Pony?
That is true. That is true.
Actually to be fair I'd I'd probably sell to you know cause cause really I Mustang Mustang convertible in the states is a real daddy border for me car isn't it So So that that the My Little Pony edition would be would be would suit that car very well. In rain will have to heat up
every minute so wrong for some custom plates and just my little you could have this. But I I did some research on on
this on this Scotty and and and there's there's a couple that I wanted to mention that that there weren't sold here but they're they're equally as bad just just just for that name now you guys all know you know the the the band Bon Jovi indeed.
The Volkswagen got into bed with but with Bon Jovi the band, and they did a Bon Jovi edition Golf back in the day.
Wow. You'll be living on A prayer
once the the warranty is up, that's for sure.
But the That's my one joke of the day.
So the. The fact that they they did a
Bon Jovi edition just makes absolutely no sense.
Just took a quick cash grab to to sell cars and the Cadillac Brougham Trump limo so obviously for you know Mr Mr Trump himself the the the former president of the United United States of Freedom. Oh man, so, so apparently he
ordered a whole bunch, right? And this is the story behind it,
but he only took delivery of like a few, so they had to sell him. So.
So imagine owning a Trump limo in an old bro.
That would be a horrible thing. And my and my last one is from a
company that I should know that should know better.
But but come to think of it they they probably don't Lamborghini.
They did the Diablo, Victoria's Secret edition, OHS.
And they had a whole bunch of Victoria Secret models posing with the car and and I'm just like, I don't know what you're trying to show here but you know we're still trying to figure out Victoria's Secret. There's my second joke for the
night. But there's you know the fact
that that car actually existed is is a bit of a like, like, seriously nobody's nobody's gonna buy that.
Would you would you rock up to the supercar meet with your Victoria Secret edition. You know of all of all their
beginnings. You know that's when you go.
I've got the you know I've got the I've got the Mercy Lago.
What have you got. I've got the you know, the the
Victoria Secret edition. Oh, you've got that cardio.
That's cool. It'll be.
It'll be more like. That's horrible.
So, so, so, so there were three I I thought I'd bring up and the fact that they existed as really.
Is sad. It is sad.
It is sad. I had the I'd go back bit
further than you boys. The HB Brabham Tirana.
I don't know that Jack would like to have had his name.
He did at the time, I'm sure, but but.
Be have it emblazoned all across a basically a rebadged Vauxhall Viva from the UK. Which we're never particularly
good car but one thing that car did have was the.
That they had quite a plain dashboard that just the base model cars just had a Speedo on one side and a combination gauge with a fuel gauge and a temperature gauge in it.
And then but the that model pioneered the Taco.
So at least they got Taco and the Speedo and then four smaller round gauges. And then when the LC's Toranas
came out after the HB, that was the GTR dashboard.
So it was actually a GTR dashboard before the GTR was even a thing. So that was the one good thing
about that car. That's cool.
Yeah, yeah. So it it had some stripes across
the the bonnet sort of. I don't know if you remember the
in America the Camaro ship, Camaro SS they actually had a.
A stripe that sort of ran across the front of the the the top of the grill and and down the side guards.
I think the rally sports actually had it.
So it was, if you look from the side, it was actually a vertical stripe sort of just down near the front bumper bar that went up the up the panel and across the front of the the bonnet and down the other side and the owners had that as well.
They're trying to make it look a bit a bit rally sport I think too from the from the GM stable. Yeah, Neil Brabham would like, I
mean that error, was he still raising Formula One that year or he would have been done by then? That's a really good question.
No, I'm pretty sure he was still involved.
That was only 686869. So you know, I'm pretty sure he
was still still very big name then in Formula 1.
So it's a bit of a coup I reckon for Holden to get.
It would be like, you know, someone today getting, I was gonna say the Riccardo addition, but it would need to be someone's winning, wouldn't it would be just happen to be the Verstappen edition or something like that, you know?
We generally feel listening, yeah.
But but yes I was pretty good get on their on their party.
He certainly had a reputation and a name.
I think it actually had a slightly higher output engine.
So there there was a A. But there was not much to work
with. I think they were 1100 or 1200
CC engine, you know, in that and I've got the brochure, I've got some brochures out in the garage and they've got some action shots. And the angles of the wheels in
the action shots show the handling probably wasn't its Forte, I'm guessing. I think he actually specified
radial tyres as standard, which was not, you know, not necessarily a standard thing back then.
So that could only have helped the handling, but but yeah.
But my mind you then, of course Peter Brock, the Brockhall, ABC, Brock Commodores, everybody knows them as that was the start of a very long line of successful things.
The Brock Samara. The Brockland Samara, Probably
not so much the successful. What you have to do, yeah.
The strangest 1 to my way of thinking from the 80 no early 90s would have been was the Tamworth Edition highlights.
OHP didn't know. They didn't.
Know there was a Tamworth edition to celebrate the Tamworth Country Music Festival, and it actually came with a guitar. Yeah, yeah.
Most of them, I think. I think I've only ever seen them
in a metallic blue and they had like a blue graphic down the side that said Tamworth and you could get it in the single cab and the dual cab and my mate had a 2 wheel drive dual cab.
Tamworth didn't have the guitar though, because he did buy second hand and whoever he bought it from hadn't supplied the guitar with it. So I would have said no, my
buddy give me. Yeah.
Must be a guitar is better than than the Trump addition.
We usually got some fake gold tacked on to the to the old bromo and make it a trumpet trumpet.
So I would prefer a guitar to be fair.
And a bottle of spray tan in the Global.
Yeah, So what else you got, Scotty?
Well, I'm going to throw in the Nissan Pulsar Reebok, yeah.
Yeah, yeah. No, I didn't.
I didn't know until until I until I researched.
We discussed the about before but I didn't know about for the few years that cause. I always used to see Reeboks
every but I didn't realise how you were.
They were. They made 200 of yeah, they made
a hundred, a hundred autos and 100 manuals.
OK. Yeah.
Yeah, wow. But I think the best thing you
got there was you got a pair of Reebok shoes too.
What's the point is you got there?
Another one I've got, so most of mine I just, I tried to find some that were released here in Australia as well.
Yeah, the Land Rover Defender. You got the Tomb Raider edition.
Wow, I've never seen one of them.
Yeah, I mean, they're expensive as it is already a Land Rover Defender. Let alone getting a Tomb Raider
edition. I mean, do you think Lara Croft
would actually drive one of those?
Like like, let's be honest here, like are.
Yeah, it's pretty funny. And it comes with heaps of like
roof racks and spots, spotlights like all over it pretty much and just in one colour. So at least it kind of came with
some extras. My next one is the Volkswagen
Golf GTI Adidas edition. Yes.
So that had the special Adidas stitching on there and it came with some 18 inch alloy wheels by Xenon headlights and then just added as logo thrown around everywhere, you know, you know they did a Pirelli edition as well like back in the day.
There's one Ledger on the corner from me.
Coolest. Fabric interiors, Yeah, yeah,
like a tread pattern of attire. The tread pattern on the Tyler
that came with and they were all dual clutch, they all SG's I made him. I had a yellow one that that
piece yellow colour that they came in and mark fives and he was always saying how good it was.
It's Pirelli edition and he's like, Oh yeah, I got the Pirelli edition like it was very proud of the Pirelli edition.
Sir Patrick you listening you know you are not the normal Patrick that comes in the show but old friend from from hospital money it was always a you know the Pirelli edition was was just a such a such a higher standard than your standard instead of GDI. Yeah, that was that was always
good times. But yeah, it was OK with the
like the Pirelli, like the the P symbol on the on the wheels I think from memory too, which was, which was kind of cool.
Fancy. How many were those made?
That's a great question. I was gonna look that up.
VW Golf. Well, why you look that up.
My final one that I've got here is the Hello Kitty Smart 4/2.
Edition. Actually, that wasn't sold in
Australia. No, that one wasn't though, so
that was my last one. Wasn't sold here, but suppose it
was only like 22 of them in a full and partial wrap.
Designs were available in a range of colours.
So it was that in. Japan designed.
Uh. There's a collaboration between
Smart USA. So I would say probably in the
US. Wow, interesting.
Yeah. Because, of course, the four two
in Japan was one of the only one of only two.
Non Japanese built cake art. Hey guys, Yeah, I can't find how
many, how many predictions that they sold, but you got.
You got yellow stitching on the inside, You got a bit more power. Well, yeah, Cool car.
Cool car. It's.
Getting a bit more power and stuff like that, yeah, well type in how many, but anyway, they have Kitty edition.
And then to throw forward under the bus.
Again, you can correct me if I'm wrong.
No, mate, Throw him on. The BA they released the the
Cobra edition and I feel all that came with was the stripes and some badging. Had more power 302300 and two
kilowatts over the. The original 290 came with the
came with the Rspec you know truck day suspension and brakes starting a package and were you know a lot more expensive but that but there's also two additions that people forget what the beer so the BA will be serious Falcon So like the Cobra came in the BF but you know same car fundamentally the BA mark twos. They had an enforcer edition and
the Devil R edition. I don't know if.
You remember those? Yes.
Yeah. Do you remember those, David?
I do not. Yeah.
So they are quite, quite, quite the rare rare beasts.
Though they were both, they were they were made to celebrate Fords. Words come back and forwards
Weiner for for the the last two you know we have to because series with Marcus Ambrose winning and Russell Lingo winning winning and they were they were in the same team and they were driving they're driving you know the BBA Ford which was again Ford's become back as Jeff Holiday is really tried to push forward again after that because like after the the the the disaster that was the U the BA was was a real comeback car forward and so they had the the enforcer edition
which was all they all came in envy green they had they had enforcer on the bonnet bulge they all XR8 manual auto ride so green stitching on the on the on the leather interior you know they had the enforcer in the in the headrest I believe and you know like they were the you know signed bonnet signed engine engine cover and the and the the devil our edition was was was for Marcus Ambrose and they were all in I think silhouette blue I think none of silhouette blue shockwave blue I believe and
they the same treatment exactly just in the blue car with with the red stripes so so yeah they're they're that's a bit of a it's a bit of a history lesson for your David.
Wow, I'm impressed. I just remember the Ripcord
edition, The river. The Rickel edition?
Yes. Kill you.
No. That was that.
That was cool. That was.
And they had the the magnet. They had the magnets, right?
They had. They had.
The magnet, too. I remember that one.
You were the ad for the magnet. Yeah, I do remember the IT was a
cracker yard. There was.
Involved girls maybe? Ohhhhh.
Yeah, yeah, I think you're right, Mr Prister.
Princess. I think you're honest, I think.
You haven't actually seen it, but I can put it together.
It was those two, those two, those two guys that did the AU ads, like those two guys that like must be stuck in 3rd and them still still driving. Like they kept hiring him
anyway. They're driving this.
They're driving this this this magnet you through through a country town and that they turn around and all these people just jumping out walking out of pubs and clean houses and stuff and all these women just following. They're like yeah it's a it's
it's it's causing a bit of a stir.
OHS sorry that was that was quite quite a funny ad.
I don't it wouldn't it wouldn't go too well today that's for sure. It wouldn't.
It wouldn't pass a PC culture that is 2023, but.
Yeah, probably not, yeah. It's funny, you just reminded me
to Scotty when you were talking about, you know, to get rid of old models and part spins, one of the most famous ones, which was very imaginatively called the the Holden.
I think they're calling it. Manaro Back then the the Holden
Limited Edition, which was basically an HJ version of the Monaro when there wasn't really an HD version of Monaro.
But if they only came in burgundy with the burgundy interior, honeycomb sort of hubcaps on the steel rims to make it look like it had alloy wheels and they track cartridge players in them. When, all right, eight track
cartridge players, we're actually no longer a thing, so.
That was actually sticks out in my mind as one of the most ill conceived and probably, you know, cheapest.
Limited editions. I mean, they didn't even call it
anything creative other than limited edition.
It was just to get rid of the old Mannaro body shells.
And yeah, they've had them all the same colour and they tracking them. And the the burgundy and I think
they had gold pinstriping or silver pink be gold pinstriping with Ellie on the on the bodywork and and A and a coach to stripe you know so there there worth a bit of money now just for but not you know not a huge money it's just more the curiosity value which I think any limited edition that to us survived is is you know got some security curiosity.
Yeah, absolutely. Like, I mean every time every
time we say Colas and Patty on the road, I'm like ohk Callison, Patty, you know like that's yeah, that's I mean I get.
Excited to you, Matthew? I mean, she's she's she's laser
royalty. Really.
Cheers, mate. She is.
She's a goddess among women. She, she, she she really brought
the laser. Yeah.
The laser name home. So but yeah there's been some
absolute shock it's like but there's even like you like as you said you like to sell to sell a few more.
So I'm at the door like the RZ Toyotas that they had like they just put a sticker pack on a on a Camry and A and a Corolla.
Oh yeah that's. Yeah that's that's.
Yeah, that's. Yeah, that stands for and then.
You guys, we're looking at you. Basically, an air condition was
still optional, but they fitted it and called it the Mazda shades. I mean you know it made it said
that was again not a big stretch no, but the you know it's it's clever marketing cause they did sell quite a few Meza shades there. Yeah, so even though like the
the the Holden Commodore equip, you know it comes equipped with a with a few more things, same thing with the Cruise equip.
And then all those things they came equipped with a with a few more things which when you add it up anyway it was pretty would probably be the same amount of option that I can't with those few little things anyway. So but it's just the funny
things that that that can't make, you know I need to find out how many probably additions were made 10,500 worldwide I believe so. I've had it.
OK, well that's all that limited edition, really.
No, it's not. It's actually quite a lot, Yeah.
So yeah, that's a that's quite, um, it's quite the amount.
Any last ones, gentleman, before you move on to tonight's quiz?
Well, considering parts bins, I know Holden did something to get rid of some of those Pontiac front ends.
GTO And they had all the front ends left.
That's right. Yeah, they did.
They actually did. Yeah.
OHS and stick them on some fronts so.
Terms. I don't really see them around
anymore though actually. So that was available in you
could. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Yeah, absolutely. I think Fiat for they did 506
Nine Five tribute to your Ferrari.
Like yeah I'm just like I'm not like I get what you're trying to do but like it's more cool as it's own thing as a Fiat 500 Abarth. Like that's, you know, like it's
it's a cooler car and to make it a bit more Ferraris, but it's a bit wonky and I'm like. It's a Maserati version too.
There was. Yeah, there was out of our.
That's just one of those. One of those different, you
know, weird, weird things. But but anyway, anymore any that
I believe in Japan they they did a I was I I stroke my memory look looking back through through you know a few different ones. The Mitsubishi Pajero Mini
Snoopy Edition. Yeah, that's cool.
Actually, I'll buy that. I think that's really cool.
Yeah, I I would, I would buy that.
So it's it's basically a AAK Pajaro with everyone's like, it seems like a lot of money but it's just a big giant Snoopy sticker on the on the back. You know spare tyre.
You know thing it's got poor Prince for mud flaps on the mud flaps and you know Snoopy on the side.
I would buy that. I think that's a special
edition. I would, I would, I would
happily happily spend my money on as.
I mean, I mean I'm I'm a very lame kind of guy like that.
But I think that's kind of cool. But anyway, yeah, I know.
There were also dealer, dealer, special editions.
Dealer networks put things out. I always remember still
Forwarding Queue used to put out their own sort of special customised version and it was never really clear what it involved, but it did have a BSS BSS which stood for which would be still was initials customised.
Pipes to customised edition customise.
Personally customised with something so and I remember the book the badge on the booklet of of different model but it would be on anything it would be a Cortina or a or a Falcon or a Ltd or whatever was going around and Josh Sadier actually in Essendon in in the early 90s when the EG Civic came out they actually did a teddy bear version of that and it had Ronel teddy bear alloys on it and seat covers with the where the headrest had had ears on it like a like a.
So I'd love to talk one of those, but I don't know that many would survive. But there will probably worth
more than the car now, actually. Correct.
I think the survival rate on that car would be very, very minimal. It's very low.
It's. That was another exciting
addition of Worst car or weirdest cars special editions ever. So we'll have to we have to
revisit this one in in a year's time when some more get released that car companies are being on the bit on the piss and said that you know like let's let's let's do that.
I mean I mean Jeep even did like a a Wrangler Call of Duty you know Modern Warfare 3 Edition. So if they can do that, then you
know, we can have a Super Mario Odyssey 100 Honda Odyssey edition. So that would work.
Super Mario Odyssey addition there, absolutely.
I mean I would buy I would, I would mark my words in Honda if you're listening you know I I'm I don't have a lot of money but I would I would buy I would buy that just to prove a point that that that car would would be would be for me.
We'll have to do a series two. We didn't even get to the Iron
Man, Hyundai Kona so. OK, OK.
Yes. Well, OK.
Well, we have to, we have, we have to end now and that's a crack. So, so that was the, I mean that
was the Hyundai, Hyundai Kona Ironman edition.
Well, what was that? What was different to the
standard? Kinda like it was sort.
Of to look like my man, I suppose it was.
It was sort of still grey colour and the highlights on it were like a burgundy. It was quite a bit more
expensive. I don't know what else that I
never got, never actually looked at 1:00, but they were a thing and it wasn't that long ago. We were only talking probably
four years ago now, I suppose. Well, the first shape Kona
Ironman edition. There you go.
There you go. Before we embarrass ourselves
anymore, let's let's get into Scotty's version of the car.
Who's now? I'm assuming this would be
cryptic cars. It is cryptic cars.
Yeah. Most of them Australian
delivered except for the very first one, and I just threw in a special edition question in there too.
OK. Alright, so this quiz is going
to be a jewel because we've got two people here, Maddie versus David. Shimano.
Imano yeah. Ready for question one?
That's good. Alright, question one.
The Hennessy Toxin GT. Matthew.
Matthew. That'll be the Venom GT.
It is the Venom GT. That was the fastest car in the
world at one point, I believe. It was at one point, yeah.
It's always the Hennessy feeding.
That's the name of the company. That's the name of the company.
OK, there you go. Not a volume seller, I'm
guessing. It's not the it's not the
drinking Hennessy. It's the I was gonna say
whiskey. No, it's not a special edition.
Very special edition, yeah. They should do it, Jim Beam.
The VB Commodore edition, but like with VB, not not not actual VB model. Perfect.
OK, question #2. The Nissan?
I think I might have done this one before, but anyway.
Nissan Supernova. David Ohhhhh nice.
That's a sister waking. But that's Mitsubishi, so that's
wrong. No.
What was it? What did you say And listen?
Stupid. No.
Yeah, I've got. No, no, it is now.
Supernova geez. I got no idea.
On on. Super turbo.
I don't know. Like, I I've got no idea.
No, I don't get the point now. But it was pulsar, wasn't it?
Yeah, pulsar. Oh, yeah.
OK. Yeah.
Yes, zip balsa. Next one is the Holden courtyard
or square. Like a big open place, big
square where you can all hang out, that kind of square.
Cool. Out of square.
That's a picture. I think it wouldn't be.
I don't know. It's a tough one.
What do you think? Tough one?
Wow. Holding quadrangle?
No idea. I think it's square, as in not
the shape of a square, but a square where?
Oh, I know. You can go there.
You haven't busted in, SO David, I'll buzz in.
Yes, David Holden, Piazza. Yeah, yeah.
Yeah. That's a good one.
Yeah, now, sorry, no more cars that the manufacturer sold four of. OK, come on.
I think they're good looking car.
I actually really like the way they're styled, but it was the Isuzu Ace of Clubs show car and it was basically, I think it was Gujari, was it? Yeah, it was.
Yeah, absolutely. Yeah.
Defined it. Yeah.
Yep, you know, you're quite right.
Evidently the axle tramp was something to be experienced.
But when? I don't know.
Heartbreaking, but, you know, kind of everything.
They were that they weren't a handler, that they they were quick and straight line, but they weren't a handler.
It was all about style, yeah. Question #4, sticking with
Holden. This is the Holden scuttle or
scamper, David David Scurry. Yeah, that's scary.
OK. Speaking about the the the
Piazza, just just a cargo like that car is is what a social media influencer is now. But it looks good, you know, it
goes, but but can't do anything else right like that.
That doesn't have a lot of substance.
Doesn't it just looks good? Unlike the scary, the scary My
goodness. So that was the badge engineered
version of the Suzuki. Carrick Muscari, Yeah, that's
when they had the Purina. So Holden took the Purina, which
was basically a Swift. Swift.
Yeah. And and because they were
getting that, they also had to take the OHP.
What was that? That's it.
Wasn't that? Wasn't it, Jimmy then Sierra had
to take. This year it was rebatch drover
driver and the Holden Scurry. Don't think that's not any of
those. They didn't actually and the
clubs got a whole driver on club plates with this.
There is one on the road still. That's very cool.
Question #5 is the Morris Boatyard Bodecker, did you say?
Boatyard, yeah. Morris Boatyard.
Matthew. Matthew.
Marina. Green Morris Marina.
School check. David.
To myself. To anyone.
Anyone's game. Just rolls off the tongue
nicely. Morris Marina.
OK, this is the special edition that you need to try and tell me what it was called. So in 1975, Ford released a
special Falcon GT. What was it called?
David David, 75 G. Straight after a year before,
with their great win at Bathurst, I was going to say it was the John Goss edition. Correct, it is.
You're right, it is the based on the GT.
But anyway, you know Hardtop, that Johnny Goss addition.
Yeah, special. And they were basically white
with either blue, green or there's another colour, blue, green accents. Yeah, it was like a 2 tone.
Yeah, yeah. I was just reading about it
before, sounds pretty nifty. What will the 302?
They never got the 351 treatment.
No, just a small one. The small one, yeah.
Disappointing. I was.
I was like, I was thinking years, I'm like, is it a Cobra now? I think it's.
I think it's. Too.
Not yet. Not yet, cause I was like it's
too early to be a Cobra and I was.
And then then then he said John Gossman.
Like, yeah, it's John Goss. Is he John Goss Question #7, The
Ford Pirate? Yes, if you know your history on
Pirates, you'd probably get this one.
But I didn't know that this word was meant pretty much the same thing, so. Well, can we get a decade?
OHS. You can, but you just gotta wait
a second. That's right.
Steeze. OK, OK.
So the 60s, but later came to Australia into the 80s, early 90s. Yeah, it's Matthew.
Matthew. It's the Ford Maverick, right?
Not the Maverick. No.
Well, Irish pirate and they came to Australia, so it wasn't locally produced. Yes, from.
What I can tell it's uh. Gets pretty confusing.
This was used. The model was used for Nissan.
Pintara is also OOH David. Are you good the forward
Corsair? Yeah, Corsair.
Corsair means, you know, obviously I was about to say it's wouldn't be the stupid Corsair, would it be like this stupid Corsair. Like that doesn't even make
sense. Like how do you get part and
Corsair, it's it's the name of a boat, isn't it?
That a Corsair I think like a pirate, like a something related to pirates still, but the it's like a small warship or a small something like that I think is the actual meaning.
There was even a fighter plane in World War 2 called the Course Two True there. Was.
Yeah, yeah. My friend who worked with talked
about my friend who worked at fought through those years.
They used to call it the Forward coarse hair.
They despised it. Wasn't a good car, no, no.
Alright, question 8. This is my favourite 1 cause it
sounds funny. This Suzuki Robust Lad Robust,
last updated. Oh yeah, The Mighty Boy, The
Mighty. Boy, city boy, the robust lad.
As soon as you buzz in, I was like, oh, I know where it is.
Anyway, I'd even wait. Alright, question Now question
Nine has a swear word in it so I'm OK.
Not not a real bad one, because I hear him saying on the radio now these days, so it shouldn't be too bad, but the guy thing basically goes these days. Question 9 Is the Daihatsu shit?
Oh, geez. I don't think they've got a car
called the crap, so I don't know.
Well, crazy shit, OK, and hits your excrement, Matthew.
That I had to poo. I don't know.
I thought bit of no, can't, can't even begin to think of what that could be. The dye Hatsu Scat.
Ah, OK, OK, there you go. The more you know.
Well, moving into question 10, but it has a bonus question.
So OK, there's still two more points up for grabs on this one.
Sorry, this is question 10, the Honda.
Let's go. Oh, David.
David Mamos. Yes.
Yes, good. That was good.
It comes with a bonus question, What was the special edition or version of this car made for? It was made for something.
What was it made for? OHP Dogs?
Ohhh sorry. I was going to say something
different anyway. I was going to say a special
version that you had was dog and you could load you know had a secure space for your dog to sit and you know and and belts and covers over the seats and. Stuff, Yeah.
Special Dog Edition Honda Vamos Hobyo Big doggy friendly one or something. Yeah, it was a long name.
Yeah. So I think I still got it up on
here. The Honda Vamos, Yeah.
Hobyo. Travel dog.
Travel dog, Yes. Travel dog.
They should bring that back. We're gonna do an episode where
we gotta think about like the crazy weird names.
But they they should bring back and that's what they gotta bring back. Bring back the travel dog.
I'm just imagining N1 Rs travel dog.
That would be amazing, amazing, amazing.
I would buy that for an Evan travel dog.
Ohe ohe, now you're talking. Yeah, you see that that that was
a trick question. Scotty too from the point of
view that the back in the 60s there was a Honda Vamos which was basically like a a scamp engine mini Moke really yeah little forward control thing that had it been fold back roof.
If you Google on the Vamos it'll it'll bring it up but then they brought the name back when with those little one box of ends.
So there was the Vamos. Was the name given to the sort
of like the I think the passenger carrying version of the Activan, but the early Vamos were called.
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Looking at it now, well that's
pretty cool, actually it is. There was, there was one in SA
for sale, just basically a shell for like 5 grand. 10 Easy I
reckon. But yeah, to the programme
day-to-day has often just talked about bringing one in.
He thinks that would be a perfect, you know, everyday car.
I doubt. I doubt that it would myself,
personally, but he's seems convinced that it would be his.
He's. Got an everyday car?
But you know, no, no. I think.
The cars that they use at the airports that put luggage in tow, but just at airports with little planes because they.
Wouldn't have, yeah. Yes, I would like to see an
A380, you know, disgorging its baggage onto with the back corner. No, Yeah, with one of these.
OK, well that is The Cock the The Cock Quiz by Scotty Dory that is Cryptic Cars, tonight's winner on a grand total of seven points destroyed me on two as Mr. David Prince.
Well done. Destroy other.
Destroy you. Thank you.
Well done, mate. That's a it's a fantastic score.
So well done, gentlemen. I think that's a podcast, you
know? Scotties got through the week.
Golf tip of the week. I actually went and played on
Monday. Hmm.
How did you go? Yeah, not too bad actually,
before I go. Pretty bad because it's been a
while since I played. But yeah, pretty happy.
Some parts that I just I should have gotten, I missed.
Easily I'd get, but I don't know I was missing him one for Birdie. And it was pretty close.
Like normally I'd tap that in, missed it.
So since I was just playing by myself, I just went.
Yep, I got it in. Until now.
Have you? Have you, have you been using
your your tips? You been using your tips to make
it happen? Yes, so some bad shots I did
when I was out there. The last hole, Oh my goodness,
that was a shocker, the last hole.
But I kept my cool, didn't throw anything, just kept on going.
Did some good shots where, yeah, I mean couple were on the fairway, some of them out a fair bit and I was just risking it for the biscuit and hit it between trees and stuff just to have a go, then just getting onto the fairway.
I think that's what's so great when you're just playing for a bit of fun and practise. You just go for those shots and
if you get it and you're like, yes.
And if you don't, you're like. Oh well.
I I did hit one. I probably should have used the
pitching wedge. I tried to hit it down low and I
didn't. I just flat out really fast and
went up and just biting straight in the middle of the tree.
Straight back down on the ground, that was pretty funny.
But I would say my tip of the week is focus on fitness.
OK. If you are incredibly fit,
you'll be able to get through around.
Mentally stable. Picture with the exhausted
argument. When I got to the 18th, I was
pretty wrecked. After going up that massive hill
and everything, I was exhausted and then it just hurts you on the rest of it. I just kind of wanted to finish
by then. But then give give myself
another hour or two. To get my breath back and that
I'd be ready for another round. I'm like, yes, I wanna play
again now isn't that called the 19th hole?
Yes, that's the good spot. Yeah, actually they've opened up
their new clubhouse there at Woodend that opens up on Saturday, I think grand reopening.
So good on them. So beautiful golf course.
So if you can get out that way, I really, really recommend it.
Very, very tricky. If you're not hitting straight,
then just get ready to be smashing into trees.
Tough. Have to give it a.
Go got to see some great birds out there.
Kookaburras. I saw a kookaburra fly down.
Hmm. So, yeah, beautiful nature out
there. It's good.
Nice. Mr Prince, Ed and I still do do
a podcast. We've spent a lot of time
talking about it recently actually, so hopefully we will be up and running again pretty soon.
It's called Auto Retro and we talk to people about the cars that their lives. So I think I am looking forward

On this episode of Car Torque, Matty is joined by David and Scotty as they discuss their latest updates and some more cars that had some passable and terrible special editions. Bon Jovi VW Golf anyone???
