So happening with you guys. Good to see you both my last
week of holiday so I'm kind of a bit.
I want to see the Press but more dad because I have to go back on Friday officially but get started some car update with you Rosie. Ross actor.
Let's get into it. What's happening in your world.
Now you're also would tell me you had to be in a meeting with with company starting with f in a blue oval.
Now there's a couple of bits and bits of news that I think I'd like to drop firstly. Last week, I tried to apply for
a job. But apparently, a man with
ginger hair got him instead of me.
Okay. Yeah after the center left, I
was like no down the right place and the only thing on the application was, can you do the Haka and I said, probably and then apparently the the ginger head guy did a better job than I could so I could didn't get that job.
You probably did the same continent enhanced.
Asian probably. Well, that's right.
But I think they can't have too many of us because Russia is already running the UK. It might look a little bit.
You know, I'm saying like well then to heal my wounds, I ended up at a Mercedes-Benz dealership yesterday.
Hmm, Juggernaut tell us tell us what you did there.
Now I've been in to have a look at a new vehicle that they are launched. But they don't do launches
anymore. Apparently.
So they any vehicle they want to bring into Australia.
I've seen this Behavior with the EQ be that they have previously.
They just bring him in so that do a press release and they say, here's what the pricing is, here's what the specs are, and people can order them from tomorrow.
And that they'll be first batches either on its way or it's already here. Okay.
So come company doesn't do any press releases or like it's it doesn't do a launch event. So even the eqb on you, someone
that had the card two months prior to them doing a press launch. So I ended up you have one of
those in you. Yeah, I didn't have the EQ.
A was what you saw and the eqb was, it's similar to that.
Okay. So they launched the EQ e, which
is supposed to be the E-class. So the E QE Z QE Z QE E.
Yeah, so it's eClass so I rocked up at this Mercedes-Benz dealership and it's a second time.
My visited after the last time, I was traumatized by a sales person that did not have the vehicle that I had booked, which was the eqs for a test drive. Now this time just like the
Hyundai dealership previously. Well actually now the Hyundai
dealership was better because there would come and talk to you and then tell you to your face that we can't give you a test drive unless you pay two thousand dollar deposit that was many years ago and I'm still scared.
So you were going to the Cars and Coffee and seeing all those in line step sort of brought back some fresh.
You know, opened up some rooms testicles wearing big demand?
I mean you, No, that's it. I couldn't let anybody drive
them. Well that's they were they were
and they still probably are. So at this Mercedes think they
had an e QE pqe, 53 4matic AMG, and I'm looking at this car and it's looking good and I'm like, I mean, it looks.
Alright, then, you know, nothing to fascinating as such smaller is like a Porsche taken turbo. I think it is.
It's that type of of money. It's supposed to compete like
that, that type of blatant lie. Well, Harry.
So looking at this car and I'm like, you know, I tried to approach it and apparently, it has self presenting door handles like a model. S, obviously, I didn't know,
they were pigment sensitive. It was because there was it did
not present itself and as a, you know, I can, I can, I can see man. Like you're struggling, bro.
You're still really struggling here.
Uh-huh. But there were all these, all
these sales reps around it around the car, like, and they weren't looking at the car, but they were like pretending to look busy. And there are all these, like,
there are people that will Literally walk past me, so that's sort of cornered them but they'll find a way to get around me anyway so that that friend that way.
But then all of a sudden there was a Chinese gentleman In FUBU shorts and thongs. That apparently was a much more
genuine customer. So, Chinese sales, rep decided
to approach the car with this gentleman, And the doors presented themselves. And that's when I knew there
were pigment sensitive. So anyway, they got in the car
and I just got a glimpse of it from the outside as they open the open the doors, the screen dispute screen that they have in there. So that was the closest I got to
that vehicle. Little did I know that this same
Chinese gentleman? That was test driving.
Well, that's interesting. Stood in this car was also
interested in an EQ be because that was blocking my vehicle, that was parked outside then. So in a bit of frustration, I
walked up to the receptionist's, they had multiple receptionist and I said, hey that eqb is blocking my vehicle and I'm trying to exit the dealership and she said, oh, don't worry, it will move soon. And at that time I had no idea
that the gentleman that was sitting in the eqe that was getting a feel of what the car is like was literally only in Interested in an EQ, be a third the price of that car.
Well so like I said, that's when I knew Mercedes-Benz, if you're listening, you know we need to take that pigment lock off the vehicle before it gets into Australia because I shared the story with another another gentleman and they are more of a formula one fan and they basically said, They said, do they know who Mercedes is? Number one driver is and what
their pigmentation? Maybe like?
Because if I can't get in, then, mr.
Hamilton you have no luck. Yeah.
You can't get into any of those Vehicles either.
You know, I'm saying the difference is Formula.
One cars don't have locks on the doors.
Yeah, that's true. I meant that if he works as a
sponsor for Mercedes, he won't be able to get into the ink.
Yui. So anyway sorry gents that was
my little plan, she's only first pointed.
The other big difference is between in between eqe and and Lewis Hamilton's car is that Lewis Hamilton's cars worth like 45 million dollars but that's another story.
Now, I was reading somewhere online that how are companies that are doing for example, like Mercedes done for their electric models, having EQ, and Annie and yeah, for the E-class or or You know, ionic brand for Hyundai, do you think that that is kind of differentiating their brand inside of their brand?
Or do you recognize like, kind of just saying?
I know these are the electric versions of it.
Or what would you think that would be like good or simple?
Like what kind of video you did earlier on with the e-golf?
Just because, you know, it's an electric golf but then they've gone to the ID and all that stuff.
Which is again differentiating. Do you think car companies are
doing the right thing? Or do you reckon they're just
did? Just trying to say no we're
going electric and Diesel pieces.
Now the brand I think most it's a hard one, right?
Because Mercedes are really trying to differentiate between a traditional Mercedes via and those that are going to buy these Mercedes from in their press releases.
That's a Mercedes from Mercedes eqe.
From Mercedes EQ. So, they're getting rid of this
Mercedes-Benz theme from it for whatever reason and they call it the Mercedes EQ Personally speaking, I'd rather be like Porsche which is Porsche taken is a Porsche taken it's a name.
Yeah correct yeah but but what they're doing with the Macan is there. Well we don't know what the name
is yet but they're calling it. The Macan ev even the latest
press release was McCann Evie. Okay, so it's a bit interesting.
Ideally, you want separate models.
I can cool. The Macan Can-Can.
I know that would just be confusing.
That's it. And I think that's where things
are sort of going. But having said that, even after
that experience, could I add your head high?
He's joining us. Is that's the main man to ask
about Models and variants, and whether the electric models should have their own names. So can we just recap reso?
Mercedes not have any Q&A and he QB.
Yeah, and he QC and he QE. Yeah.
And he que es, yes. Is there anything left eqg?
What do I need? Qg?
U GL e, EQ G LS, eqg. Ah, so apparently either, The
way they're doing it in Europe, it's EQ.
EQ E SUV. I think, why would they do that?
Ah, I think I think it's something like that.
It's just try never ever last. That's what they are.
I think that's what it is. Because our body is doing that.
Howdy with the e-tron and stuff for just or some of their range.
It's like SUVs. Sedans.
It's all sort of mixed a little bit, but see like what we get to this is the reason they're having the completely change a name like EQ for a any for the, if it for the E-class designation lighted for me just, you know, like I will push this doing. Like as you said we're is, it's
called a taken. This is a taken.
This is what it is or all I like with ew.
Did earlier on with the e-golf like it's you know, it's a golf but it's the only Road in like it simple because people can can relate to the brand. I think it'd be more.
I think the more This is what's happening hours.
It's kind of the brands are kind of.
How do you, how do you like it? It's not it's not ripping the
brain apart but it's kind of like making the brand a bit muddled if you know what I mean. Like, you just like you just
wait, is this a Benz or is just an EQ like, what like, is this a high earner has its own ionic? Like I do, you know this is,
this is kind of how I'm feeling. We're looking at these rooms
because I'm struggling to keep up.
Now, like I'm usually good with the sort of stuff but like I'm just like, what? Like, I don't even know where to
look. So yeah, I just wanted to
because I do it says that they've got like the model 3 in the model. Model.
Why the model S the model? You know what?
Have you can create a model q that will just blow everything out of the water. Tell him not to think about
that. And that's you tell your
friends, your death. I'll let me just tweet, I've got
the Blue Tick now, I've got the blue pill as well in there, but, but I think that that's, that's where like the high-end eyes, I can sort of understand the ionic and they wanted to be the father. Five and the six and but they're
going to miss themselves up again because they're going to have the Kona which even the refresh, even though they said that designed for all of their Kona range is based off their electric vehicle inspiration, but they still going to call it a Kona and then a cone electric. Hmm.
So for me, that models it up the middle of the brain because I got like and that's why I'm getting that confusion and weeks, I'm just like, well I don't, I don't know what, I don't know what to are. They trying to differentiate?
Are they going to go say? Okay, this is Jen.
Electoral luxury brand. But even Genesis is got their
V's within that. Then they've got Hyundai.
Then next I'm going to be, they've got they've got ionic like you know it's gonna be its confusion, is that like for a whole wall? I thought post, I was Volvo, but
you know, there are separate company.
You know, doing they're doing their own thing.
It's just it's just it's just it's kind of not that it's doing my head in but it's doing my head in if you know what I mean.
Like it's just happy you're here.
So what whatever, it's Called getting old.
You know, when you get old and you discard, the cars aren't like they used to be and, you know, it's much better when I was younger and there is a bit of a and I'm guilty of it.
My brother's guilty of it, David's guilty of it, you know, we all kind of like a certain era that we grew up with, they had a bigger effect on us and the newest stuff, I just, I don't even care, you know, a lot, a lot of it and they said, they think it's cool. It's just like whatever another
another blob of an SUV or another.
Vehicle like that. Not that interested.
If you bring out something that's like a full electric Jimny or you bring like the ran, our are for homage full electric, that I've seen some photos of all the Honda a full electric. That's very retro, you kind of
go oh okay, that affront. Yeah.
But there is a certain, I don't know.
I disdain that just comes with everything new that you have no buy into it but see, that's why I like the ionic 5 because I reckon that looks. Are we mentioned?
Last week on the podcast. Yeah, it's great looking for me.
That's my favorite electric are currently.
Yeah, because I reckon, it's arguments, classy.
I reckon it's stylish. I reckon it's everything.
You know, a statement car should be, you know, yet and it's and I big big fan of it. But I'm just you know, would
like if they could have the high-end II is a called.
The Hyundai ioniq fire was just called ionic, 500 million died and I tell you, I Onyx vehicle. So let's find that it made their
own model for that I Ki I get that.
But, you know, you've got like, EQ e, EQ, be like it's confusing. The whole range of massage, and
you look at people to Mercedes-Benz.
I know there's like a million cars to choose from like, it's insane. The, the I don't even know where
to start. Well, everyone's got some
Heaven, they haven't they cut the be class or the, a class or something. But the, what, the big isn't eqb
a beak, like, it's supposed to be, you know, the b class.
Getting rid of a few model ranges.
Like the a class was going, is that a lot of, they've got the gla or the EQ. I mean, the, a class.
I don't know if that would fit under there, a class as such any more, but it's, yeah. And then there's the BMW and add
your BMW, man. You know what they're doing?
I drive one currently. Oh, I'm still driving it.
FIFA bewildering. This is that this is a lot of
bright. This is their line and and this
is just an SUV Z QE Z. Q SE c-- will C-Class, sedan, he
clustered an S-Class sedan as class long Maybach, eqa EQ, B, EQ C, EQ s, GL a GL B. DL c-- G OC q p GL, e GLE,
Coupe, AG class, CLA C-Class, Coupe, Big loss Cooper Hank.
Yeah it's it's it's just so many cars.
See cars it Cabriolet he cast cubby early SL Roadster eqv which is the People Mover v-class, you know and it's just like Daddy's a massive range you know like it's that's enough to jump to anybody's head in. Hmm it is a lot.
So yeah that's what makes the whole thing confusing.
And that's why I think to a certain degree.
I think what Paul starts doing is It's good because they're going to have the pollster to the pulsed up three, the pole star six roads, do whatever they want to call them.
At least I've got the Rangers right?
And that's all they're doing and then we've got like the BMW's IX 3. I 4 i7 that's just launched IX.
That's the one that I don't get the I-X like and the I3 is no longer there. X1 of mentioned that we'll be
launching first half of this year.
So x 1 is 9 X 3. I think there is there's a nice
7i for ixm. 60i X I4 m 50, The IX 3, IX one like this, just
basically alphabet soup. That's what it is.
It's the alphabet soup or if you want to consume your day, memorize it, or you could. But you just kind of, oh, I'm
not that interested, I'll learn it if I have to.
I tend to Deep dive on all of those things.
When I want to buy one, or someone I know wants to buy when they go, what do you think of this?
And I go and I don't know. And then you go do the research
and you don't into it and then you kind of go that models got that, that models got that and I find it's always good learning when you do want to feel you hit that but otherwise you don't really remember it. Yeah, and that's where I think
the It would be interesting to see how some of the newer Chinese Brands differentiate. Like the mg, you know, you've
got the Z SE V you've got, which is based off the z-test.
It's like the Conan Conan electric.
Yeah, the mg4 will be dedicated electric-only.
What else the byd is? That's just what they are?
They just seem to be animals seals dolphins, dolphins, sea cucumber, Bob know this guy This close to scampi, my friend calls. It was coming.
Yeah, that's what's happening in my little world of automotive.
Racism. I call it for today that go was
that it was interesting or. Yeah, it was good, that it was
their product planning team and they're, you know, in summary, they're just trying to figure out what what does the future of electric vehicle. Charging looks like so they can
bring the right type of models into Australia with the right charging standards and a whole lot of other things which is interesting because Cuz I've personally thought doesn't like, doesn't matter because if you're in the UK or you've got the vehicle in New Zealand, the charges are the same in some ways. So I don't think you'd make it
that much different. But anyway, they want to explore
these things. So who will go down there and
have a look? But yeah it's interesting to see
what they are working on because the way things are, at the moment, u.s. Has a much higher demand for the
F-150 Lightning and Mustang and I'm not sure what their other future electric models look like, but at least the local teams here are thinking about it.
You just, well, at least they're not bringing like xxm x 7 x 6.
X 5, x 4. X 3 x 2.
X 1 is X. Yeah it's just I'm just like
this. So many point is causing the in
that in a Range you for e-tron Q3 Tron.
Yeah it's anyway mr. Prince updates with you after
lunch with me, I'm driven Anything.
Electric recently, or even looked at Nitric, can have you use the toaster? That's electric and I use the
toaster. Hmm, it's not a car.
It would just checking Okay. Not a lot in the last week, I
did rearrange. The jigsaw puzzle, is my garage
over the weekend and got the N1 out of the back of the garage.
And took that spent most of the day on Sunday in the N1, which was good fun. Revisiting that had been
probably a month since I've driven it.
I think I'm seriously. I think I, it will be on the
market, within the next month for any card, talk, listening so-so I think the next one would be wise to defend his people want to pay for a spot for us. Yeah, yeah.
It's it's a, it's a great little car and I enjoy every aspect of it but I'm being tempted, severely by the update, which comes with a 6-speed manual instead of the CBT Auto.
So I'll be waived for a little spell of the first later in the first half of the year. And so, Together.
If I got rid of it before that, then I'd be looking at placing it towards the end of the year. Hopefully, so possibly.
While in Japan, mr. Perhaps, Perhaps my, my one, my
if one's options are you know, if one is is there a would be rude? Not to look really.
Wouldn't it? What do they say when in Rome or
when it's right? You know, Sokka absolutely.
So yeah, so Keep an eye on car sales biting.
They probably don't have defined a find the category for it.
They'll give me all sorts of grief.
But basically it's a four-door S6 60 per people listeners at home. So yeah.
But I think that's about it. So it's been pretty light on
really, for cars. I did, I listen to the last
week's podcast again today for bit of a refresh and idea, actually, clean up. The city could be a normal
weekend. So the Civics been washed and
refreshed in them actually been rained on again in the last half an hour. Okay it'll be very I'm stormy
stormy. The believe that me I have what
I've done, what I've done, still driving around the 130, are you enjoying myself in that car? The Volkswagen multi van has
gone in. Thank you to David, helping me
to drop it off to get a service done and just a bit of a glance at for roadworthy. So, that's still with the voxi
specialist, I had that is a very cool thing to drive.
I really am. Do you drive it?
You have you ever driven one before?
It's really not any distance. I've moved plenty of them and
the like, but it's at so well on the road and that is all is yeah, they do do a van very well.
I've always been absolutely my hatred of Volkswagen.
They've been for so many years and they've just sort of honed it and tweaked it and hold it. And they haven't really it's not
groundbreaking, the changes they make to it that it it just is very good. I said to my brother because he
had to drive it and it's such a commanding position, like how absolutely sitting up there in. Captain's chair.
You got these amazing glossy view of everything, it's very Square. It's easy to easy to place in a
car park or what have you and on a rattle or very tight and yeah, so I think if you got a multi van at you could do worse if you're going into the van worked, even though it might not be quite as bulletproof as a carnival or something like that, so that's just getting a service to, then I'll read Joe that emphasized that What else through the Moke?
Went in, for another round of repairs and only had in this with a specialist for a day. So we had to be a bit selective
as to what they did. But I said look, the number one
issue, is, there's a grinding noise because the whole motor was moving on, its mounts, quite a lot.
And so, I said, the number one thing is to stop the motor heating, whatever it's hitting and the grinding.
That's intermittent is caused by that.
So, they were good with that, they tightened up this one of the engine steady things, Replace the other one that was missing and basically made it so that the motor doesn't move around in the way it was. He checked the compression on it
and gave it a tune-up. Compressions are very good,
they're all 200 or 210 so it's a very it's a very healthy motor which is good. What else did he do?
He retimed the distributor replace the plugs.
I think replaced the leads. So you know, 700 something
dollars later. It was running a lot better and
not clanking and grinding and it's not done, you know, still needs exhaust work. It still needs front end but
Pushes it still needs shocks, so there's definitely other things to be done, more money to be spent on it, but it's at least sort of TurnKey. You could drive it somewhere and
not freak out with the noises and the motor moving around.
Yeah, that's good. Pajero for a little while has
been sort of going Walt Walt Walt.
Well yeah we want what we want and we yeah, so not not bad.
I've had wheel bearings, not on that car, but I've had wheel bearings that have gone before. Really very linear in the way
that noise Works its load of like a wall, you know, back down again. It's it's very speed-related
whereas this was more rotational related, it was a wall and then you draw and then I want. And then what is the wheels
going around? Which typically isn't
wheelbarrow wheel brings more consistent.
Yeah, than that. And we were brings a good test
is if you're driving along straight and you, you know, you swerve, left, we square, right? It should get louder.
You know, one way versus the other.
Because it's putting more pressure on the bearing and not and the Pajero wasn't doing that.
So yeah, I booked it in and just said, hey look at it, it might be a bearing starting, but I'm not sure.
And he had a look and checked. All the bearings everything said
and doesn't doesn't appear to be anything there, he drove it.
And he said, I think it's tires. You notice the front tires are
getting a little bit worn on the Inside Edge, so he swapped the front to the back sand. Yeah, it's a lot better.
So I don't think it's 100% cured but Definitely not noticeable, anywhere near like it was. And I thought, okay, well that
says to me it's probably needs an alignment, which is why the wheels are, you know, the ties were wearing it on the inside and yeah, an alignment and a swap front to back is pretty much cured it. So that's good.
That means I don't have to Fork out for a wheel bearing.
Hmm, but I might have to Fork out tires at some point, but not yet, they'll will get a few more thousand out of those.
Let's think that's all my car experts for now.
All Because our announcement. Hmm.
Oh shit. Did I mention the verses on the
show? You did last week?
Yeah, so the great broker highest test to happen.
This celery, which involves a truck with a power lift tailgate about 11:50 filing cabinets. The big ones, the for draw, ones
being loaded into the said, truck and delivered to an undisclosed location where I'll have the eh-2-zed ready for perusal. For anyone that would like to
visit a versus The Press gets. Yeah, so first job will just be
moving it and then we can have a nice cup of tea and then we can delve into well, what's actually in these filing of a lucky dip.
So that's Saturday's job and it's going to be a conveniently 36 degrees. So, yeah, you know, put on your
tank top and off we go, sun's out, guns out.
I always say I don't like the weather dictating what I do and that's a perfect example of that happened.
Saturday rain, hail or shine, I think you need to get us some Zuppa duper's and and start and sunny boys.
They still make them afterwards. You can have that after work
first and then you can do pastila weeks, time Retreat, like and what about you Matthew at seven with cars and you this week because of me this week, not a lot this week.
Why should, you know a little bit too?
Be fair. I said how I got the MR2 back.
That is driving all like really well.
So I gotta back me getting service and the aircon done icy cold drove it last Wednesday in there was a really kind of a hot day last Wednesday and real cold air con.
So I was quite happy with that and yet so dropped off got the typhoon service because this is much mail, my service months, got pushed back all the way to January, drop the top two, hot deciphering offer a service and that got service than The Scamp there. I've went and took the car down
to Rob's. He had a look at it.
He's like, yep, we can fix that. That's no issue.
He told me what to get. So I went and I want to grow old
super cheap and bought all the things I need.
So that's really, why do I bought some Rust Converter and sealer I brought fabulous repair kit, some body filler, some paint, some primers, some sandpaper, some marking up sheets and everything. And and I just just just Just
stuff just body repair stuff, really?
It's going to be fiberglass. Not new metal welded here
because he's like it's got an init it's going on inside skin on the back of it. So he's like he's like instead
of cutting out the both are just Bridge kind of the front B, feel that. And and that that will get you
through your roadworthy and you'll be okay.
I? Okay.
So that is ready to go. It's actually out Runners.
Now, getting it serviced and getting a look over for the road, where they went. What, I put up to me, just shook
his head and he's like, what have you brought me this time?
Oh my God, I hope that other condoms like I like she brought you something that you might enjoy for a change and he's like that, it's very cool and he was he was wrapped to see it.
He's like he was also and he was also like, can you get me one?
I thought it was it what he had done for his first car, didn't he correct? Yeah.
So so he did. He just see selling her and he
was like all this this yeah, it's really cool.
So he's really excited for it and he's just in the back of the workshop, you know, just just he's just just doing little bits and pieces to it and having a look at it.
So I wanted to be like a fan And you know that probably good you can put like he's he's Livery for the yeah the workshop at the front and then yeah, that's why I'm asking.
So yeah, so he's going to take a few things, obviously.
Obviously going to do a service. I'm still waiting for that
filter. I ordered from from Super
Junior, hasn't come in yet but the As they would know.
I have had an issue. Starting it on the last view few
times. I drove it.
So it seems like the generator, which helped start the car.
It's just ticking like it's not a battery or anything cause battery's fine. It's like the brushes in the in
the generator. Have they just wear out.
So it's and as you were saying David has probably been the most started in a very long time. Absolutely.
Absolutely. I'm guessing that's what it is
and it's not the same as a normal starter motor.
That on the show. So normal start about, it has
brushes in it and they can jam up, you know, and you're whack em with a hammer and they free up and then they'll start the car. Something that's Camp system is
different in those three 60s and has a stator.
Yeah. And then the brushes and it sort
of rotates with him at, and that's what starts the engine.
And it's funny because when you hear them starting with even when they're working perfectly, it sounds like they're not going to start. It sounds like the batteries
really rundown but it's sort of like Sort of slow whirring kind of noise and and then bang the little thing fires into life.
Whereas mind being the big lock, 600 has a normal startup motivated, and that sounds more like a phenomenal car turning over Banks murderer. Okay, okay, okay, so it's some
gear to the uninitiated. It's an unusual starting system,
which is interesting because like because when I, when I just want to show him what what like what I was doing when I got there, he's like he actually even mention the same thing David mentioned so he's eyes. Like these generators are got
like, you know, like he's got very broad accent as I've mentioned on the show before. But um, but yeah, like he had a
fair idea of what was going on and David called me, and then he's like, yeah, that's virtually what it sounds like, mine did the same thing and I'm like, oh, I'm glad the Honda minds are working. So you totally back over 30
years to when I first got mine because that was the reason they sold it because they got sick, like, you're starting it to drive for the kids to drive to Unionville, Every morning and drive in and pushed adding it into, you need to drive home home. They go see to that.
So, yeah. So it's just a matter of
removing that whole starter assembly generator assembly, and replacing the the brushes in it, and it's never not start up again. Basically wonder why they didn't
just do that. Like, I know a lot of people
persevere because part of the problem is that I've known a couple of Auto Lex through the trade and, you know, particularly the older ones. So you know, back.
Because they're not familiar and not, you know, not a little regulation out of the box. And I always remember, somebody
telling me that they that had trouble in that take action or no electrician and they finally got it sorted.
And this thing started again and they said oh that's great.
And I know what I owe you. They said no, it's free.
This one. We did.
We did out of the goodness of our hearts.
Well, thank you. That's so nice on the condition.
You never bring this car back to us.
Okay. All right.
Okay. That it won't have anything more
to do with a bit today in their defense, they did get it going so like I can't imagine once you know, that's right.
It's you know once you know what to do I think there's a special tool involved. I think I might have a number of
them in the garage so if he does need a special tool but someone who knows the cars already. He's probably got a way of doing
it without without needing it. Yeah well I'm thinking to myself
can his timing in Sri Lanka? He'd probably have worked his
way around. One because as his, it's right.
And it's all the transport. So maybe he was doing what those
people doing. Just push starting it every day.
We don't we don't know. But what we do know is he, you
know, he knew what it was and he laughed and he's like, this is this is actually great and and to his credit he always says to me or why do I bring him crap? But for the first time, I've
actually brought him something really cool.
And he was definitely on board. So I was, I was, I was I was
happy, I was happy with that, it's good, it is good, it is good. So He's just yet chipping away
at thoughts and he's been pretty pretty flat out actually.
So he's always like toward the end of this week.
You'll have a bit more time and he can get cracking, but that is pretty much it. R is I know.
You got to go man. Sorry and particularly sorry, I
didn't get to hear this. The story that one of your
previous competitors had put me through but I think I'm going to start a new social media campaign.
I stand with Lewis Hamilton. Just to make sure that Mercedes
understands, but thank you so much for having me on gents and, yes, I look forward to seeing you on the next one.
Well, then can I get? I'm soaking the office, dude.
We'll talk to you soon anyway, so that is virtually Micah updates. Nothing else really on my end,
moving on to tonight's topic, which we will suppose I have a lot of people on for tonight, but you know, obviously, things.
Things have happened and just just wanting to let's go to no good luck to your cat and mr. - committee wrote a message.
What do you say? Dan's out Simba.
Need some medicine, and they just going to keep an eye on him. So, you know, as we come out of
this is it's a big part of the show.
Somebody comes on every episode, you know, see a bit of sin, but we definitely do pretty well. It was Scotty's idea for
tonight's topic which was most embarrassing things.
You've done to a car /, have done in a car and I know it took me a while to think about what have I done that?
I look back now, I like, what was I thinking and but then it didn't Take me very long at all because I realized a few things that I did. I was like, are you idiot?
But probably one of the biggest things for me was when I, when I was 17 and 18, obviously, we went out to do performance upgrade. So we did see how system
upgrades as my first food. Laser was $500, as you guys you
guys. Well, we don't really know, but
the sound system was five thousand dollars.
So Grand. Yep.
It was systems back in the Light naughties were quite expensive.
They weren't as cheap as they used to be.
I've granted that sound system for the most part.
Yeah, yeah. It was 85 K.
The head unit itself was almost a thousand dollars I put in that car back in the day. What was a lot of red, rooster
notes are four thousand worth of speakers in an amplifier, subwoofers and speakers and and amplifiers and beginning.
Did you forgive you? So what was that?
You do not just think of getting a better car with that five grand. And that's your first car.
I suppose. I have a bit of fun with it.
You know, I, you could have caught, you know, sr2 with that money, you know. Almost I know.
Like, I was like, I was adding it up in my head.
I'm like the front speakers, the back speakers that back back speakers. The two subwoofers, the two
amplifiers, the wiring kit, the head unit or the, you know, the tuning to get it right and everything it.
Yeah. It would cost a lot of money.
I think was I think it was just under five in total fare for everything. Oh yeah I didn't pay it off in
the one here right. I gradually did it be by your
side like I was like, I need new speakers Island.
What's the put the recipes? I can get up?
And I need to a him. So I had to buy an amplifier to
attempt to give them the power they need.
And the head you were doing this tastes I purchase ago.
Twenty four and a half percent interest you know listening to on this system Belinda car man, looking back.
Now, I wish I was blind to color because I have ruined my hearing for the rest of my life which is, which is, which is which I didn't think I would, You know, every time I see, I like a young kid would like with with bread peas with like, you know, subwoofers blier like, you know, pumping and blaring.
I'm just I'm like well I look I look at him and I just think to myself what, what what are you doing as I kind exact same thing but it got to the point where I was like I used to work at a West Target years ago and I used to finished like that that you know, the night shift after after you know them.
But the late-night shopping hours, not 9:00.
And I'd get out of there by 9:10 and month, especially the someone would be out on the porch.
Just Having it like a, like a, a beverage of those sorts with, with my old man. And and she just here the
distance booth and she could tell me I was on my way home in and it got to the point where like now if I go into like a, like a, like a loud, allow dish, you know, crowded area and the people talking like my ears start to ring.
So I looking but looking back now I regret that those decisions immensely but at the time it was pretty damn cool because like you'd open your boot lid and and you have like you have your choose two subwoofers there and and you know it was pretty like he's a cool.
Eh, like those cars are quite practical.
You can't put anything in it. Correct.
Correct. So, it says you could, but I
managed to fit my Cricut bag because in the, in front of the subs, it's Subs. Would the subset have to be
pushed back, a touch or a, to put the, I have to put the bag in the end. In the back seat, but it was, I
had to use. I had to front speakers for in
the rear so 42 in the parcel shelf and to in the in the actual speaker holes for it, which funny enough don't come standard with lasers. They just have that they have
the great there, but they don't have any speakers in them.
It was a probably a Gita thing. Yeah, probably a gear thing when
you sold that car, what did you do with that system?
All right, I took it away out so I took it.
Well, I took it all out. One of the subwoofers Went to
went to my sister's car. We it's just stayed in the
garage for years and my sister got her card and we put it in that the other one I put in the SI to but mice my really expensive speakers. I kind of just saw with the car.
I was always a bit because like the guy was like the guys like I need to, I need a car and hit now and you get a chance to pull the speaker's. I was gonna put the original
stuff back in and I was like, oh well yeah, it is what it is with the speakers. But I took my head, you know,
because I would that cost me about absolute Fortune, it was like the world was their unit of choice, who we talking neck Finding a can would, it was actually a JVC and this JVC unit in particular, was like, it could, you could power, it could power external hard drives to play music and you could, you could toggle through folders properly.
It was, it was Unreal. I was it was the best one you
can buy on the market. Where is it now that unit?
That unit is it got stolen when they stole all my parts for my show that times. So yeah, that was one of the
things that got stolen along with, along with me.
I mean, it's not really worth anything now, because It's kind of old Tech but but but a guy I think he's in the Toyota Club on Instagram Retro, Retro, Retro, Onyx garage.
I think he killed himself. He's damaged along somewhere and
he does up all the old Alpine units and overall, the all of those and that committee was working on and Kenwood with the other be, a pretty high-end ones went out and helped.
I probably do you go through all the 70s and 80s cars at the Wreckers and pulls out these old head, you Said restores, empowers them all up. It's very cool.
Does he sell them a good question?
I'm not sure if he does, I'm not but he certainly knows his way around them. He's obviously and he's Garrett.
Made something down on one of yours.
Matt, didn't you need the backlighting fixed or something is so so well, here's the thing. I've spoken to Andrew, I am
yeah, with the magnet. Yeah, he would be on the show
next week actually. And yeah, he's a, he's, you
know, and I asked him to come on because we Talking on Instagram, like you should come on the show for it for an episode.
Have a chat anyway. He got his head unit in these
Elite repaired and that and I said, I just saw you shooting him a message on Mike, Mike a man, you know, love the magners.
I've got my original unit ready to go, to put back into the MR2, but the out that LCD displays just is very, hey, going, it's pretty, it's pretty stuffed. He's like contact this guy.
So I should contact him tomorrow and find out.
It's not the same guy we're talking about.
No, I don't think so. Different guy.
I'm pretty sure but but so like he seems like he's the, he's the guy in the know. So I was like, yeah, I'll just
shoot him a message and get that in there.
But yeah, look, it was looking back on my, my youth.
It was fun because like we weren't we weren't really allowed to modify our cars in any other way.
And you know, and I know I didn't spend five grand in one hit but it was, yeah, it was just bits and pieces and yeah, speakers and speakers and speak at what splits, and which I, which are, you know, quite pricey because you had your Tweeter and woofer at the bottom and And it was, it was but the worst part about that in that car was the I went through three rear view mirrors because they, because they just write themselves to pieces. Like, like, like it, had it like
the base. Would you see an animated come
down? I like, he'd have to be
constantly adjusting it and the ball and in the soccer just got so loose that I think I think I've gone to the records, the to take another two off to try to fix it and but I got to the point where like, I know got the SR20, I kept my put my subwoofer in the SO2 and Put that head unit near so too.
At one point, but I didn't change the speakers or anything.
I was always like no those those days are past me at the ripe old age of 20. So but no, it's fun though.
It was a fun thing but looking back on it.
And now I'm just like what were you thinking?
But I guess it's just what you do is spin 10 times.
What you paid for the car on the stereo?
Yeah, this is pretty pretty out there.
So it's a it's the shaking his head.
We don't have Vision on the podcast but he's using it as a just talking about. Let's Shuffle.
Can you cannot believe what he's he?
What he's hearing? Yeah, I can understand standing,
you know, 500 bucks, maybe a grand.
If you went all out, but 5 grand cheeses and that's back, then that's not. Now that's that's a while
ladies, ladies of mine who was a bit more work to do than I had.
His first car was a cheerless gold 5-door and he fitted that car with a Bose head unit and a space.
Distributor. I remember it.
Had a Especial bar one. Yeah, yeah.
So you could actually, you know, faded between all the things that was pretty high-tech. Any spend a lot of money on that
sir. Yes, yes, because guy was great,
but they are feet over the topic.
He did like his top in the high fight that is so it sort of follows. I think a lot of people spend
too much money on stereos in those years.
Yeah I wouldn't feel car radios. Got a lot to answer for I think.
Yeah. Anymore.
Driving the laser in and stopped and helped out mopping, the driver side. And, and the guys have all this
is the sense of them. You got in the car, my gear, so
they all just hopped in the car, Mom.
I'm just sitting there, like, what are you doing and they do.
We just start pumping music in front of a school.
It was deep. It was a different time, guys, a
different time, right? Why don't you all those all
those things, work, different time, early 80s, all array, my externship nursing Corolla, I committed the cardinal sin, which I would never do now. I think was 299 dollars at the
time and I can't remember the place that fitted them but I think it was a windscreen place but I should have one of those pop-up Sun ruse to ah yeah. You know the class now I was
glad it was it just popped up and then you could unclip it and then fold the whole thing forward and bring it back down into the car and into the back seat, of course because it didn't have a wind deflector, you know.
You'd be driving. The roof will be fluttering up
and down like crazy and yeah I would never do that again.
But did they install for you or did you install it yourself?
No, no they ain't dangerous. Or did I drop the car off in
South Melbourne somewhere? I can't remember a hole in the
roof out, the hole in the roof, tackle, the Roof Lee was a nice job. I mean, it looked it.
Well, as integrated as one of those groups called, which was not very, but it was, it was and it was Tiny.
It was only, you know, it was only probably.
Bad 878 800. Mm.
Why probably? So because the correct
ethnic-religious not change any way.
But there was a bit does Love and a bit and they have come down and also on the list of foolish things I've done in cars. I do remember as I started
getting high like suits for work, I'd actually even put a sunroof in a Hilux suit but by that I've graduated to an electric slider. Yes.
I usually bundled it in when I was buying it so you didn't actually realize how much it was going to cost you and I had this electric roof in a couple of my bands at the NYU today.
What they're actually really good for ventilation like on a hot day. If you leave them popped, open
the interior of the car never gets hotter than outside.
So I mean, when you're in and out of it all day, it was that well, that was how I Justified it anyway, but I will remember going to Toronto Village 11-day years ago to get a coffee and I Came out of the shop and I had a sandwich I thinking, and I keys and wallet and my phone, that was the size of a briefcase back then, and the coffee on the roof, got in the car.
I've settled myself in got into turn.
The ignition on, reversed out of the car park, through the car park of Toronto, Village over speed bump, no less.
And then, as I turned into turanga Road, the coffee, then chose that time to tip forward through the open sun roof down.
An interior. So I went back a coffee or
through me. He rolled down the back to the
shop. Got another coffee.
It was too hard to explain. Really did you said, you saw my
wife, got pissed off at me and she tipped over my head.
Look, I tell you what happened, but you probably wouldn't believe me, but that's exactly what happened.
But amazed me that I actually managed to get the thing out of the out of the car park. Over a speed, bump through them.
She shows what a smooth drive around my spoke.
Once I dunno, I'm sure on the road down the gutter and sort of out into stronger own accelerated away, this thing and I've forgotten totally About the coffee and just didn't even know. It was the last thing on my
mind. And then, all of a sudden
there's is from Above This collapsing of stuff on me.
It was very funny. They're looking back, but
probably foolish thing to leave it on the roof.
I've never never begin. Interestingly, I listened and
learned how you must have done something foolish.
Strong wreck my brain. Just saying there's been a
couple of incidents where The driving was concerned early on so I did in my Renault 12 sedan decide that I wanted to do hamburger. I was obsessed for overtime with
handbrake turns and so I do go take it out to chadstone sort of one Summer's evening with a cheddar.
Yeah, I'm with a friend and we were sort of doing how right turns around The Big Empty car park out there that was without incident. But then there was another time
I went up to To behind when free Road on mold and there's a didn't the handbrake work on the front wheels in a row 12.
Now I rear wheels on a 12. Yeah, but you're right some
cars. Like the Subaru touring wagons
and things from the 80s that were on the front wheel.
Yeah you don't want to find that out the hard way.
So yeah I took it to this car park which is still there behind when free Road Melvin sort of need Dan Murphys there.
So there's an upstairs and downstairs bit to car by.
So I went upstairs and I was doing my circle work and doing the handbrake turns practicing that And I forgot that there were these raised sections in the car park, where sort of street lights you know, used to be mounted or something.
So I came flying around one sort of corner and did my hair a turn and work like you know I bashed into one of these things and thankfully that car had a standard sump guard on it and so it dented the sump guard but it didn't do any other damage.
And so I was like another Time. I was at a friend's Farm which
is sort of 160 Acres also. So there's plenty of room to
drive around and I was in their parents brand new.
Toyota 4Runner SR5 limited, which was top of the line for runner back in the day so that had the sunroof and the power windows and the crews and the Alloys and color coated bars and it was quite a nice car in the time.
You know, I always admired that Twitter and now the V6 silky-smooth motor. I always showing my friend who's
a bit younger than me? Whose parents car at 120?
This is how you this is, how you do donuts, and we're doing donuts in The Paddock and it's not hard to do doughnuts in because it's quite High center of gravity and they're quite spongy. So it's not it's not like a
Commodore, a falcon or something Lowdown and sporty.
It's anyway. So we're doing donuts and
spinning around spinning the wheels.
I like yeah that's what you do. And then I promptly as I was you
know, being an expert at doing donuts, plowed it into a tree stump. Painted the front bumper it.
I thought it was going to be way worse than what it was.
You know, the we hit it with a really good whack that as I got out it was like, oh shit. Oh shit.
And um it just put it put a decent thing in the front bar but it didn't do anything else. Didn't damage grill or headlines
or Bonnet or anything like that? Well pretty bad about that
because the car wasn't very old and it was my stupidity that had caused so yeah, the driving incidents.
Was another time when again, I'm tempted, like doing this to other people's cars, not mine. But I think David David.
I've mentioned about how you like to join other people's.
Yeah, friends had a brand-new EB Falcon GLI wagon.
That ironically my brother ended up owning years later.
I bought it for him off. These said friends anyway, the
same Farm was a constant. Source of amusement.
And so there was a sort of an upper Paddock and a lot of paddock. The only way you could get to
the upper Paddock was up this steep Rocky rutted track.
Now they had the old Land Rover Series, one on the farm and that that was generally. The only way you get up to that
top Paddock is by taking a Land Rover or some other forward, but I convinced my friend of wish to take the GLI wag and up the.
So we got maybe three quarters of the way up and it got pinned on a rock, don't go forwards or backwards the In was sort of not engaging properly because it was all out of whack because the rock was under the car and it wasn't good and I'm thinking shit shit. Shit.
How do we how do we get out of this anyway somehow I put another rock under a wheel or did something and we got it up to the top and then we crawled it back down.
Again, the only thing that happened to the car afterwards was a couple of Bolt from the muffler of popped out.
So it was a bit exhausting, you know?
So we sort of said to my friends that are oh yeah, it sounds a bit loud in there. Did I must have hit something on
the track and it's like, oh, Oh, you're no worries or get them to do that next time at Jim and that was the end of it.
But what I was thinking, is it half an hour ago, it's perched, precariously on this Earth. It's Maureen being a bit gung-ho
driving. Another time, I had a Jeep press
car was the Cherokee probably around 2000 2001 somewhere there Cherokee. And I was with it one of my
poor, yeah, like Girlfriends and I would be with doing these stupid things. We're out in the Tulane State
Forest somewhere on a Sunday afternoon playing around.
And I said, well, there's a steep muddy track.
Let's go down that he's like, no, I don't think we should.
And I said, yeah, all tracks lead to somewhere and, you know, there's a bottom. And we'll just have to climb
back up out. He's like, we don't have any
recovery gear at nothing. He's like, no, no, I think we
should know. I'm like, yeah, fuck it.
Let's go. So down and we go down This
absolute, you know, Ravine we get to the bottom and it's literally a like, like you can't there's no way you're going through it. So we turn around and we start
to proceed back up this, you know, ridiculously muddy slope.
And of course we make it some of the way but not all the way we perpetually stuck. So it's now four o'clock Sunday,
afternoon saying said going there.
Anyway, we hiked up to the top of the track.
And thinking, what are we going to do?
We have to walk for an hour into town?
No, mobile phone reception. Of course, I don't even think I
had a mobile phone and just literally as we standing there.
Thinking, what the hell are we going to do now?
It's nice. And Patrol comes around the
corner with a winch. I've got two, boys.
We still have a bit stuck. Can you tell when she said,
yeah, no, worries comes down. Winch is this out?
And, and on, we went on our merry way.
Like nothing had happened. I said you see Scott.
He's my mate. It's just like unbelievable.
So it's always it's usually me being yeah, overzealous with the car. That's not mine.
You know? That's that's you reminded me to
going down paths that you shouldn't go down.
I was at a holding dealership in or probably added certain, it's long gone. Now I think it was called
something city Holden and I hadn't it wasn't my area that I was covering. I was covering for someone else
and I was in a mad rush. I had an 85 Hilux at the time I
was extra cab which was really great, you actually, which had a now. They're worth long now compared
to what they were and I was in the service department and I done the job. And right, you have given the
invoice into the carpet and that next job, where we're at now, how do I get out of this place? And I saw it open, I sort of
adore the way and I'm leading on to Victoria Street and I thought oh, sweet. Okay, boss.
Okay, that's the best way I go. So I just drove out this
doorway. It was actually a loading dock.
The loading dock. Yeah, I drove at the loading
dock. So it was one that you know SME
would back up to to unload parts and things like that.
So the drop was probably three feet I suppose or and yeah I just I was so embarrassed. I just kept going so about the
highlights being unbreakable. There was a lot of crashing and
banging in the paint's peeling. And yeah, I just kept on hitting
out into Victoria Street and kept on to the next job.
Again, did you ever go back? Everyone back here again and
probably remember my dad bought the territory, brand new. It was, you know, brand spanker
and and the Christmas holidays that we did the family trip to up to Coffs Harbour and all those areas up there, and We packed the car, had the roof pot on and yeah, off we went and so we lived off the roof pod. That's a good idea.
No, it does not. But we took the report out
because it wouldn't feel underneath the the carpet where where the car was saying it in Grafton.
So so we took the report off. Left of the Saga.
Like, well, we put on before we go.
And then we decided to go down to the beach because my my grandparents had a lot of time. I had a beach house out there so
I got like I said the beach just be just for a bit we had to the beach else and next day my up a couple of my other apples come down and like let's let's go let's go forward driving, let's go. Let's go fishing.
I know a good spot and like yeah sure so we all hop in the territory and follow these. These my uncle's in like you
know you know, really happy it I'm really jacked up mid 90s Hilux. It was it was.
Yeah, it was really cool. Car, unbreakable unbreakable.
Yeah, proper unbreakable like, what?
Live front and rear axles like proper.
Unbreakable one anyway. I see the sign as we driving as
well as wizard was, we're driving into the into the trellises four-wheel drives only and I'm like, Dad, I don't think we should be taking this car there.
He's like, she's like, I've already committed.
I'm really halfway down the track of my dad.
It says we can turn around. He's like our Will be, it will
be okay, right? And in this whole time just like
yours is a rear drive rear drive?
Yeah and I'm like Dad. It's not going to go well and,
and he's like now we'll be fine. We'll be fine with could you
know, we've got your uncle here, I like that.
It has four-wheel drives only I think for a reason.
Anyway, we're very committed. So I'm like okay, whatever.
Like, legit a minute down the track, it gets real hard core and the territory gets through and then all of a sudden it gets a big rise and then a big dip. Onto the sand.
And and I, and we like facing almost vertical.
I'm like my Dad. We're not getting back up this
there. It's not going to happen.
And he's like, aah and in, but by the time he said, I we're already halfway down me, halfway down, the down the slope.
And we wanted to see it and I'm like, Dad pin it, because we're going to get, we're going to get caught on your, on your soft sand. So he's sideways and at
everywhere and we get it close to close to the beach on on the hardest and stuff. And And we're fine.
So we like it was sweet. Sweet.
We're flying along. And he way the part will go and
about 10K downtown down this arm down this year down down the beach and every time we started going slowed, the car side of the sink really badly because and plus we got you know full full carload and everything in Daily.
Only friend sometimes that that my dad's flying Ikea is probably doing 80 kilometers an hour down the beach in any we we passed Maya With my uncle models. And all of a sudden, we get
airborne like we hit, we hit a rock and we get, we get airborne and everything, just go like goes up and bang.
We crush it hard just as lucky to get the thing straight because we're going to will always gonna tell her but I thought I thought the thing was going to tip it on my dad, you gotta slow down, we're going to run too fast and slow down.
Park it up, we get to the spot. Anyway, we get the stuff out.
Go fishing and we like our Tides coming in to it.
Better head off car gets bogged and we couldn't get out.
And then my uncle had to tell us out.
And then he got bogged because because the territory was too heavy and he couldn't, he couldn't pull a territory out.
So then we had to call my, where to call my grandfather, who had another Hilux, who can pull both of us out.
We get it's like sunny. It's sunny to get like going to
get more dark dark but like you see?
It's something to it's time to get dark and be like, oh this is this is not. This is not good, we get ready.
When we get right back to the end where we're about to come out of that, really Steep Hill. We'll look.
We couldn't get up. We call what we were there for a
week and then we got stuck. Trying to get up.
We were there for hours is sandal in the brand new car.
My dad's, my dad's cracking, he's like our buddy cause I just spent all this money. Are you losing his mind?
Soylent, very Kawaii and we get there and a lot like does like everybody out and we will get out and I'm like, boys don't go here if I look around he's out there a hose.
You all know all the setup for 12 days ago.
She doesn't. It was coveted here.
It was on that day, was always will always ring back with me of like one of the days I will never forget of just embarrassing moments in her in a vehicle.
He was sexy. The roof might actually reminds
me of the embarrassing other people have about other people.
Do not myself to just two quick things.
I had a lady in Hawthorne who had an ML and one of those roof pods and she had a basement garage, try as she tries.
She might I reckon I fixed it four times for she would call him getting that it was on the roof of the car and she'd go into the basement garage. Bang you know it doesn't fit in
the car. No no no.
You know that? I dunno.
I dunno. I am Video of you put.
I'll take it off next time. Yeah, well that's a good idea
because otherwise bang, you know, then she dreamy about you a couple of weeks later and the fourth time I said, actually I don't think I can repair it anymore.
I think it's a bit too far gone. There is a new pod or maybe a
lower car. Exactly, exactly.
And the other one that really sticks in my mind, I had a call from a kid anymore than years ago and he said, oh, I've exposed to some painted, my mum's car.
I said ik. Yeah, yeah.
I'm starved, it's just happened. You know, can you can you come
and have a look at it and said yeah sure she was still at work he'd borrowed his mum's BMW lot of burnings like a 4-liter tin of paint on the passenger seat. Ha ha.
And then what happens? So the black interior car white
paint and he had to stop somewhere.
You had to stop quickly. The thing goes off the off.
The seat, the lid pops off. There is paint the dashboard,
the windscreen the roof. Running through the capital
running down the rails of the seat of the.
And I said, I said, I said I don't think there's anything I can do for you, what your website is it she's gonna kill me? I said yeah I can understand why
you know is it what oil-based of water-based use water based so it's still wet, you know, but I like white paint on black vinyl you you start. So I said look man, I'm really
sorry but there's nothing I can do, you're going to have to fess up and all That and then never heard any more about it years years later, I had another call to do a job, and it was the same house as this thing that was for the mother.
And I said the statute of limitations, I reckon had expired and I said, hey, did you own a BMW in here before?
She said oh really have you. I said just had a black BMW.
She said yes curse. It did you some small some pain
in it one day? Yes.
And it ended up being like an eighteen thousand dollar insurance claim. Oh, is a very expensive trip to
Bunnings but a facade, whatever. I've been to bunnies, you know,
they take them up pretty well. Now, yeah, 20 years ago but, but
yeah, I'll never forget that. There's the kid look of this
poor kids face and I opened the door.
And it was like, it was like that mr.
Bean episode. You know where he blows the paid
up to paint the room. Yeah.
The paint around the car he couldn't have been more effective but yeah. And then all these years later I
end up back at the same time, remember that?
Music and played a lot of Poker. Anyway, the guy, the guy
actually listens to this show are so be sure to you Jason.
He's a top bloke, Tommy, the story when I was a kid, he's parents went out and his friends were like, don't don't take the car out, you know, just, you know, don't do it.
So what did you do? He takes the car out, and it was
a, I think, I think it was, I think, was a 120y or or something along those lines and it was a manual.
And anyway, he's dead. Driving.
And he broke the gearbox, and the guy across the road from him. I believe was a mechanic and he
and the mechanics like terms. I was like, look, you need to
learn your lesson, you got to repair the gearbox.
I'll tell you what to do and I'll show you how to do it, but you're going to be the one that's doing the workers.
I refuse to do it because you because you need to learn your lesson. He's like, yeah, just just
whatever you do because my mom's going to kill me so they went to the records. They he pees like I remember
this went to pick apart pulled pulled out.
Put out of your box, took it home there for hours of because we got it in and you know and it was all Good about a year later.
He's made his mom's like I didn't know my car was a five-speed he put a five-speed gearbox supports that started off foolish but then ended like you know I don't like Heroes sort of. The opposite happened to a
friend of mine. He he had a I think I've
mentioned it before on the show. He had a laser like an early 80s
laser that was a four speed and might have been a bubble back actually cuz they still did for Speed.
But we'll make this cheap lies around that Finchley decide to sell it. But at some point, the gear knob
had broken and he just gone to the wrecker and got it, got it got another gear knob so it had a five speed knob on it and he didn't even think about it, just whatever you know, sold the car to some people use later and it was a Two thousand dollar car or something and they rang up a wall are abusing him that it wasn't a wasn't a five-speed. Like it was his fault and he's
like, I just got an open the record I didn't even think any for kids, that's where a proper test.
Drive is always good. Trying out all the gears.
Yes. All my other friend Scotty had
instant 350Z head tracker. Addition, I think nice and he
drove that quite hard and it ended up losing third gear.
I think I've mentioned this before to have.
Yeah, so he traded it in and didn't mention that it didn't have third gear because all the other gears will find that just there was nothing Binford so it didn't exist.
I didn't test drive it, he didn't mention it and yeah.
Be a very expensive third year that the other morning but that's that's another step toward a half Grand at the time.
Yeah, he's yeah, he's overrated really in that 130i because it's so it's a 6-speed manual and the gears are quite close.
I've either been on the flat, you can start in second because it's quite talkie. So I'll go to 46, you know, for
starting second that you just can skip gears or if I want a bit of an incline or whatever, I'll go 135.
You know, you can really yeah, just don't need all the gears in between, unless you're going. Really hard.
So much less clutch work. Yeah, this clutch work lazily.
I've been just treating it like a three-speed manual.
You just pick which one you want.
We're gonna start a typhoon and do every every almost almost every legal limit in Victoria in first gear.
And then just, before we move on to the quiz.
I think so. Others will probably come to me
over time, but I will, we might have to do a follow-up this episode of. Yeah, I think we want to do what
with Scotty because I'm because I know Scott has got.
Yes, yes. I've got a few more in the bank
which I look like. What was I thinking?
One? Where I went sideways in the
Camry and ended up looking for looking at a Hummer H2 of all things, looking at me in the guy just look, give me the like what I mean? What are you doing?
What are you doing? You fool.
Yeah but that was with James from From the Tuesday, the Tuesday review. It was in the Caribbean that
time we just looked at each other.
Like yeah, let's just pretend that didn't happen.
He's just funny stories like that.
But moving on to the car quiz gentleman, it's you to in the hot seat today. Mano a mano, a mano, a mano.
Bonus questions. You know, the rules Gentlemen.

going to have a 300 to 500 km range.
No, no. I like it.
The conversion cost. Like it's tomorrow, I dollars
dollars it for good, not including the price of the car.
So this is on top of the nest on top of the other on top of the price that car 56,000, 56k says, says mr.
Lunding that much. I'll say, 30, 30, mr.
Bunting is right on the money 48 to 60 thousand dollars.
They were Recommend plus the price of the vehicle.
There you go, that is a lot of money.
Yeah. Right 3 what are the u.s. have
offered its waiting customers of its Ford Bronco?
What Ed Ed Hang on there. Got waiting customers for a Ford
Bronco. That would be waiting for well,
over two years for a Bronco and I that one the White Lightning thing the lightning thing. Now that's the one.
What are they offering their customers for the that have been waiting for their Ford Bronco? I don't know.
I don't know if not a little lightning that's for sure.
What are they offering them? Double the warranty incorrect
what they are offering them is because the the shortages and I can build them, their orders of ridiculous for him.
They're offering them 2,500 bucks to change their order to some other blower spec or Bronco that can be made or 2500 dollars to buy different car. So they can't make the Broncos
fast enough. Actually it's a good-looking
car. LeBlanc, I do like it actually
looks cool question 4, how many generations?
As of the Ford Tulsa did we receive here in Australia?
David? To in.
One early 80 Square 12, later 80s, more still square, but more Sleek 13. The Roundy 133 is correct.
Well done all righteous. They did they do five
generations, but we didn't get the last to question.
Five in. What year did the Subaru?
Impreza WRX become its own model.
The Subaru WRX Oh, I'm instead of an Impreza impress, it just became the WRX when they decide to differentiate the brand Ed.
Ed gasps? No, 15.
Let's bang on the money 2015. Here we go.
Three appeared in which James Bond movie.
Ed gown. And I have weakness.
Go to no, dude. That's Tina Turner.
It's been a bit coin to love a good at Ena Ena, bonus question.
The Coop. A had controversial styling as

Help. Help me and he's killed you.
My friend Timmy. He has the Z3 from Bond.
He has the at that Atlantis blue color well and and it's the 1.9
manual Roadstar. He's got the bond car, that's
the one car. Yeah, that is the body.
It's what I am. Yeah, it's not an amazing
example of. I have driven it.
Dr. Scott. Well, but yeah it's got a few
things that need sorting, but he loves it, you know?
So Because correct me if I'm wrong they did the 1.9 they did
the bottom right? Synchronize 6 and ending with it
to point to somewhere in there. I think as well.
But I think the Light update was a two-year the update because early on, it was only one point on a 2.86 that was, you know,
earlier 1.9 in that board at 2.86.
And then later, you're right. They did an update and it had
that 2.2 in it. I think which was a 6 as well.
I think, creepy from long, but they did a did an M Coupe, a, and that Well, didn't they? I don't think we ever got them
later. They did every Emerald start
said 3, M Roadster and n3m compare think.
Did we get them here? Yes.
Is it? Because they have DS, 50 and 52
and 54 engines in the night. They had that day, three
engines. Hot things are very Estoril,
Blue, three manual, M Roadster. And he said, I should choose.
This is clean. And he said, have a look at the
odometer it done 1300 km from you.
Like, I was just out of the box. Amazing condition.
Wait, I know. Yes, not to enjoy it.
I just hit 4,000 cases in life. Yes.
And I was like, what have I done?
Yeah. Well, I've been, I've been
enjoying it. Well, yeah Mr. Mr. Mr. Bunting
question 7, here's one for you, mr.
Mr. Prince, how many generations of the Honda Integra have the
dead? It's got in the first.
Let's have a little think showing in Australia in Australia now worldwide because that the hardware has been the new one that got released. So I'm giving I'm including that
one as like a, I'll probably get this wrong then I think there was one before. For the one that we got.
Maybe, one, two, three, four, five.
I'm going to go worldwide. 7 incorrect, mr.
Prince, okay. I'm picturing my friend no
compromises collection as I do with my collection 1.
Two three or five, including the new American one.
That is absolutely bang on the money.
Mr. Prince 5 is the answer. He's on the board, he's on the
board. David score, checking his game.
I don't know before the camera was its own model.
The Camry nameplate first appeared on what other Toyota Roo. I have heard of this but I don't
remember. So it was this Toyota something
Camry Camry. Correct.
Absolutely. That's exactly what it was.
I don't know, don't know, I don't know.
Think about what though, what they were doing in the 80s, I had the Chuck fully imported, you know, can be hatchbacks.
The items you are the first ones that don't know what a feeling.
It's people, I'll get it was introduced in 1980.
Okay, this the Toyota blank Camry.
Was that a Corona Cameron Australia?
We can get nice driving Auto to be getting the showing.
No, but it was, It was obviously, is definitely what it's like in correct. Mr. Bunting, it's not the
corona. Yeah.
I don't know, I guess the crown Camry incorrect.
It was the salika Camry. Salika can really do, it was a
four-door car. It was a Ford or silica they're
called, the silica Camry. And then they had the had, the
Celica Supra and they had the Sleek a Camry, which was, which was a client It is a curator in there, too, which was a similar sort of. That was a corrective.
Okay? Okay, so they can camera.
There you go, there you go. You can look it up. 1980
question, 9, besides the plug-in hybrid, my autocorrects d'honneur than a high-bred version hybrid version.
But I was also start the quiz again besides the plug-in hybrid versions, how many models does Mitsubishi currently sell.
So, excluding the hot, the highwomen Brad models, David David now, straight evening in Australia.
If you give me the number. And yeah, just just just give me
the number firstly because she could because the bonus question, I think you can't. You can kind of guess what?
It's going to be. I'm gonna go. 55 is absolutely
correct. The bonus question, 4.5 name?
Each of them, David, David is 6. now that that's 12 Triton your
30s bullet for I know the fifth one, the one that nobody ever cares because it's a miserable car Eclipse cross.
It's the one that is the one, so I'll give you, I'll give you what 1.17 18.4 for me. He gets two points there mr.
Mr. Prince and .52. You Edward so score check David
on for Edward on 6.5 question 10 the what was the first sporty?
A fiesta, we received here in Australia, known as David.
That would be xr3 incorrect. We never received the xr3 here
in Australia, Ford Fiesta. First sporty one feels that we
that we received in wearisome. Yeah, it's an exile for it was
an exile for don't use. The techniques are five whole
world except for five. I was like, that was the that
was the focus exile for the five cylinder.
And they also had a Mondeo xr5, believe it or not quite a rare thing. The, what the the fiesta with
the big Stripes, big fat stripe. So it was the except for was
except for correct. Yeah.
Why don't you think one of those map?
So why don't you have one of those?
Because I preferred lasers at the time and I still do so.
There you go. Yeah, and I couldn't afford a
male too expensive, it as well. I was looking at them.
I was like, fuck. One of these.
So, but yeah. So xr4, they didn't xr3 and xr3i
in the UK but except for was the first one that we got here.
All right, score check David on 4. 1. 2 3 4 5 6, 7 .5, tonight's
winner on 7.5 is mr. It would be bunting.
Well done. Well, and thank you so much.
Thank you so much, anyone you'd like to think about.
No, I can't really, I can't really think anyone, you know, it's all my own doing that. I've absorbed useless car, fax
over the posted up on me. It's always just been me.
Well, one thing is this is before he picks up 14 brochures, I mean imagine is just going to be a machine up by next week.
Well, going to take a bit of study.
So David, what you and I need to do is you need to do what I need to go through this to this Those location, take photos of everything of every single thing and just just all the notes and I'll be like, how many, you know, radios, did the Suzuki, whatever Vitara have and you'll be like, hang on a minute.
I'll say one moment. Yes, well, we'll see what
exciting things we can find buried in that treasure.
It's gonna be exciting. I kind of want to go through all
Only through it'll obviously with you but I want to kind of the cars when I was a kid. That I remember like, family
friends, and people buying and owning and I want to see bones and what made them specifically by those cars, according to according, what good features they had because I'm afraid one had bought a back when I was in primary school and you're six, their mum bought a brand-new. I think it was a
top-of-the-range. Suzuki Vitara Grand Vitara
gravatar. Yeah.
And it was a nice car for its time and and I was worried about 30 grand or 31 the four-door Grand Vitara.
Yeah. And that you could get a
six-cylinder in the 1986 and a 12.5 I think later V6 sufis and
not a bad little thing. Yeah, I did like that and they
and they bought a few years later to match.
They bought a brand new SP 23 as the three and they had those for a while. And I'm like, you know, they
got, they got nice, did they buy the top top spec of what they can, which was what was Mike. Yeah, cheap used car, but tops
back of the cheek, you gotta do it.
Gotta do it like, I like that. Yes.
I mean, I like I said, I only pulled out three drawers worth just to glance at it but they were all packed with goodness.
So your did your like body function in weird ways after we like, oh, okay, I'm excited. Now, this is this overwhelmed
because When you line up 11:50, filing cabinets in it, takes up quite a bit of space and I thought, where the hell am I going to put these things? Because I can't have a take out
a car space and that's where I devised.
The the undisclosed location, doesn't it?
They're all going to be in a row along a wall so it doesn't doesn't impede a caspase. Nice is what we always like
because we called you in thickness that that brings to I do like that and cause they're all ordered a Its eyes are numbered so you can work your way from a for Alpha down to the Z2 light burn, or wouldn't have this many 88 to 2005.
So it's only a window there of Good Times await very excited.
I pulled open one draw and I found this Subaru, Heritage brochure, you know, the like first generation Liberty, I pulled open another draw and there was a Suzuki press kit for therefore, the 05 Swift, the all new shape that came out, that's cool two of those. Press kits.
And I was like, press kit Swift originally in, then I'll put up another drawer and there was Range, Rover, and Porsche quite a slab, a smattering of that. And I thought, yeah.
Oh, you know, entertain myself with this and still be good.
No, I may just have like two sleepovers and just go through these. This is yeah.
Uh-huh, mr. Prenta, I can't with this.
Well I'm wearing my iced Camp t-shirt by the way.
This is different sizes of that. David.
My one was a little bit big and I wondered.
Is there a size down? No, I don't wash it.
Yeah, maybe I'll wash it yet, really hold it straight.
I love cars and small cars and you know I love cinquecento and then and all that sort of stuff and we're going to crucify me for saying this, but I kind of want to put like one little stripe across the across the roof in the bottom of the car.
Hey, you did just that. Do you see my red one?
It's a big slow yellow even though it's a small car, I just think it'll look like a black striper over-the-top, would kind of give it a, give it a little bit of a bigger, the knee.
ConEd, I go to Google The Google the ad, so on YouTube and it's there. I think it's the one on the top
of your T-shirt. That's it modeled on that car.
All right. And yeah, you can.
You've grown fond of abundance in filling to through here.
They are what I look it up now. So it's an icon and I can Nick
Nick on cameras back in the day we're gonna like a Toyota 2000gt and stuff. And I thought, yeah, that's not
really happening. But after father, father, why
this is? Yeah.
I think I threw it, but I want to say that now, but I'm just thinking, what one, little one little stripe on the.
I'm not unlike the driver side, a little bit, you know, going from the Bonnet over over the roof and down down at the back end. Just just, just one one little
stripe, and if I don't like it, I can always take it off.
And it's like, it's like I just think it'd be kind of like a you know an awesome touch your personal karma is a homage.
Yeah I did that or David did that on my curiae, you know, metallic silver and we did just two stripes on the Bonnet sort of like a mini and that with the black and white plate to it was a sharp-looking little car, oh, we repainted the wheels.
So I pulled the hubcaps off which would abominable things.
We just painted the wheel silver.
I think so, it had a sort of an Interceptor style look to the wheels with the little stuff like white plates, It was a very neat neat machine. No, I did like that guy.
You didn't break your turns and with me in that car, remember that was weird. Are we doing that in the back of
their poor West? That was fun.
I thought I thought I was gonna die and James was in the back seat and he's like, dude, I'm going to die today.
Well yeah, we like a little handbrake turn one day.
I was coming home from chadstone with my sister and in again in her Renault 12 actually. And we're coming down the, my
parents Street, which it was a wet Road and she said, oh what's ahead, 10. You know, I can certainly
recommend and I didn't say anything.
I just dump the clutch in a bowl and we do a full swing.
She's like I said that that's and breaks his about me.
I actually snapped one of the hand brake cables knows it, so then I had to had to pay to get the car fixed.
That's funny. Yeah, oops well I think that's a
podcast mate. Well known good.
It was it was a fun. It's a fun little chat.
We left definitely continue this part two with with Scotty at some point but hopefully David doesn't hate me for wanting to put out the one little black stripe over there over the car.
Oh no, I'm all for reversible enhancement.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Just give us something to give it like a cool to touch that.
The exterior envelope - mini light wheels.
Actually mini like wolves would be could cool but I just spent money putting new tires on my wheel so I'm like, well.
We are point that this particular now, you know Wheels.
Okay, you okay. Yeah, I think he's.
All right. Well, what we will discuss.
