He played basketball somewhere and he's famous.
And then there's this guy here.
He's with the Houston fire department, was retired.
He's tired apartment Name is Jackie.
We're gonna talk to these guys.
Okay, you're gonna like it because we're jacked up now.
Don't forget, you're gonna have to be better than their last guest.
Yeah, try to top that Conrad's gonna have the in wheel time car clinic.
That's kind of like it right there, and we're gonna have this week's automotive news howdy along with the mic.
Out of this world.
Mars now?
Don't, even don't even go there.
King Conrad along.
We always need more.
Jeff seeking today a special appearance by engineer David Ainsley.
I'm Don Armstrong.
No, no, I'm not.
We need to think our bartender incoming.
She's darling is coming darling, I'm, I'm, I'm, jerry Mathers as the beaver, as the beaver pretty.
What does it say?
Ward your little heart on the beaver pretty Fun to be there June.
Okay, well, we used to have a car show, so what are we doing?
there.
Can we go to Facebook jail the whole team?
No, you get like big one, big sell.
Yeah, no, this is gonna be the Facebook.
Give Conrad so.
I appreciate this because, jackie Hansen, I Want you to know that this Look at this I want you to know.
I'm gonna put this on here with you.
Okay, right here.
El.
Presidente, no, look at this now, here we go, check this out, cool, right in the middle.
I Want you to know that when I report fireman Jack's bad fires no, no, I'm serious, for just for a second when I'm reporting these bad fires overhead, I always and I always brag about the Houston fire department.
Thank you.
Well, and you know, they ought to be proud of you, actually in a different kind of way, but I will tell you that so long as the court lets you go there, yeah there's that, but I will tell you that I have covered many fires in my day, but the Houston fire department did.
They are like surgeons and I.
I know that you can relate to that.
What I just said and I thought I hope that all the other firefighters do too because all their calendars.
Well, no, no, that would be.
David has their calendars.
Not even gonna go there.
Jackie, you know what?
I think that you need to start a new calendar of former fire department, retired fire department employees and, and, and I can only imagine what it would turn out to be.
There'd be some cars.
He called the joke that you'd be some girls in there, but there would also be guys like you and like me in there.
Uh-huh with that.
Yeah, you know, you tell about that.
Right before I retired in 2012, we made a.
We responded to pull that microphone up to him.
We responded to an issue at a senior citizen living place.
No, and we were walking down the hall leaving and some several distinguished ladies and I'll say this, I'm 70 and they were older than me.
And so the lady says very, oh, fireman, you know, and was any of you guys in the calendar?
And my captain says Jack was now.
Do I look like a calendar person?
Well, I take up to.
I take up two months.
I was gonna say three months, yeah, but she's the page for the bottom part.
And she reached up and she paints me on the cheek, uh huh, which she kissed me on the other cheek, okay, and she smeared lipstick from my nose to my ear, uh huh.
Well, our district chief showed up and he says what is on your face?
And I'm going.
I didn't have a clue what he's talking about and I put my fingers up there and fight and fire, sir.
And you know, there was this big old blob of red lipstick and I don't know how women get it off at night Carefully.
They smeared all over you.
Man yeah, well, that was generally Younger days, slow, slow.
I had that smile.
Oh, my gosh Control.
We're all gonna be in trouble.
But I had lipstick on my face, but the other problem is is where she keeps me.
On the other cheek bruised it and I had a bruise about the size of a softball how did you?
Explain that to your wife.
It wasn't easy.
So you got a hickey and lipstick on your face.
Yeah, and I'd only been married two years at the time, and he might have had glitter on him from the strip club too, but you were in a calendar for six months.
Man, this can't.
Can't catch your break today.
But I will say this about the Houston Fire Department the best guys that I ever worked with, dedicated to their position.
You know, you gotta admit that these guys go to work every day.
They go to work, they do what they do and the people that they respond.
They don't even know who these people are.
You know, when I first got in the fire department, my uncle told me he says he thought I was crazy.
He said you're gonna run into a burning building, other people are running out and that crap don't belong to you.
And I thought that's true, there's something about that, but it's a, it's a.
It's a profession that I'm very proud to say.
I am a firefighter.
It is a calling I will.
I will tell you that I fly over minimal fires.
I find over fires that you're thinking I know big deal and somebody's dead inside.
You don't know what you're gonna roll up to.
Yeah, and I and I, whenever I'm on the air, I always say you know, we had several fires here recently, yeah, where the two alarm, three alarm was not so much the fire and I always explained to look, these guys have got bunker gear on you, put on one of those jackets.
How much that jacket?
way.
Well, I can't tell you the jacket itself, but I know that when I weighed one time with my gear on boots, pants, hundred pounds more.
I had, I gained a hundred and eleven pounds.
There you go with air pack mask.
Yeah, I gained a hundred eleven pounds.
You know, if it's a hundred and nine degrees outside the heat, inch 120.
It kicks a young man's butt.
Absolutely, and I always make sure that I always try to explain that in a way that everybody can relate to.
Yeah, in the fact that you guys are going in there and 30 minutes.
Imagine yourself going outside in the yard and you're gonna mow the grass in 108 degree temperatures and you've got to have your winter coat on along with another 50 pounds of stuff.
Yeah, and you're gonna you think you're gonna last 30 minutes.
It's not gonna last five minutes.
It's not stuff, it's safety gear that you survive what you're going in, that's true.
But but so they pull another alarm because they need to relieve those guys.
And it's not necessarily about the equipment, sometimes it is rotating the fire.
Well, yeah and the thing about firefighters is, you learn, is, and it's a motto that I even carry on, even though I've been retired ten years I don't quit when I'm tired, I quit when I'm finished.
You know and that was gonna ask a question when you retire said ten years ago, so you didn't experience any of the EV fires or anything like that on the road.
No, that was before your time.
No, but I did make a Volkswagen one time.
They scared the poo out of me when that magnesium got hit with the water.
Oh, magnesium wheels, yeah, oh, yeah I was burning and it looked like rockets, red glare like oh, what did I get myself?
So let's, let's change gears here.
Let's talk about Jackie's car.
Talk about what he's doing or has been doing with that car.
All right, the you know Well.
First of all, let's talk it.
What kind of car, is it?
I have a 66 Nova that I did a frame off restoration in 2016 and 2017.
It's got an LS motor in with a 4L 60 a height front end under it with Mustang 2 rack and pinion steering and it wins awards throughout.
It wins awards and then somebody ran into it.
So yeah, somebody ran into it with me driving.
I hit a deer two years ago and you guys witnessed it today.
It was at loopy tortillas.
The people who rebuilt it did a fantastic job.
You can't even tell it.
When we painted it originally in 2017, the paint job was 28,000 bucks.
Who did the paint?
Mac sweet rides in Magnolia, mark Ryan, we know we know our mark in my car.
Yes, absolutely fantastic guy.
Yep, he's a perfectionist, he.
He's honest with his price, he's honest with his work great guy.
I love great guy you know, and so mark Magnolia is a fantastic you know market, sweet rides and Magnolia just a great guy.
Yeah, we rebuilt it, had no problem with my insurance paper on what it needed to fix because they knew who mark was, and so it turned out very, very well and I'm pleased.
And speaking of awards and why you say a travel everywhere, the first event I ever took this car to was in Louisville, kentucky, at the National Street Rod event 10,000 plus cars there and they divided up all those cars into quadrants.
And so Texas, new Mexico, oklahoma, arkansas, louisiana is the south central District, and they picked one car out of that, all those cars that were from that area, and the Nova brought home the award.
Oh, wow.
And I mean I was pumped because you guys know the riddler cars were there over a million.
Oh yeah, Yep, and I think several million.
Yeah, sir, I said I will never win a real reward, but to me the award that I won, that that weekend at the NSRA my wife was there with me and To be part of it.
I've got a wonderful wife, but she don't do car shows.
Here we are, october coming up.
She's been to one all year long and and so.
But actually we're going back to Oklahoma City in three weeks to the Southwest nationals.
Chroma coffees tomorrow.
Yeah, Chroma coffees tomorrow.
You coming to Chroma coffee.
No, I say I'm gonna be in spring.
And they get a personal appearance and sign an autograph.
No, I could take your car to Chroma coffee tomorrow, if you like that's the problem.
He's in it but you need, you need to go on and tell them what you've been doing with that car.
Okay, what's well, you need to hurry up, because you got somebody right behind you.
I want to get on the air and he's bigger than me.
He is you know, and he's already paid us $30, but then I paid my 32.
The city of Columbus, called the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, called me the first of this week Because they know, with my loan structure or association director ship Jack, we're filming a movie in Columbus.
I go Columbus, texas, you're gonna move a movie, wow, you know.
And so we need some cars.
And you know cars, which made me feel good that I they thought I knew cars, they blew them in there I'm drumming.
We got, connect, you got connections.
So I said well, what do they want?
They want old cars, they want new cars.
What they want.
And so the director called me and said send me pictures.
And so I started off my phone file sending pictures to the guy and All of a sudden the assistant director calls is no more pictures, we want that orange car with the fire on it.
That'd be mine and I'm going orange car with the fire.
I mean, Tesla you know.
So yeah, but I said so.
I said I said anyone's this one.
He says, yeah, we want it, and the movie is called finding solace.
It's a bad guy.
It's the kind of like the Eric Clapton movie I shot, the sheriff where you have the bad guy on the show yeah, don't get along.
And the bad guy is Driving a badass car and they picked my Nova for it.
So I really feel happy that I'm part of it and so he's gonna come and see you.
Come see it.
I said so I'm really part of the movie and the bad guy drove my car.
We just had a great time met some and you're in the movie and I'm in the movie is an extra because it's Guys been shot and killed in the alley and they want somebody to be extra, to stand around like look at the bodies, like Not that I've never seen in a dead body.
So I'm standing behind the barrier tape with the Columbus police officer and we're kind of looking and talking and so not only is fireman Jack you know Fireman and fireman Jack with now he's a movie star now I'm a movie star, you need hero cards.
Yeah, that's what it's called.
Somebody asked before my autographs that y'all don't hurt yourself.
You need to make an appearance in the Kardashians.
I've got to.
I've got to stop you because I've got to get him and we're about to go off the air.
We will see you next year at the Lone Stars.
Yeah, I See you, guys, grandberry grandberry man, that is a blast.
That's a great car.
So if you're poor, that it's a great car.
You'll be there.
I thank you for letting me be here.
We bring family, brother, thank you.
All right, jackie Hansen.
All right, now our next guest, mr Mars.
Mr Mars would you like would you like to introduce him if I knew who he was?

Well, the car is my retirement present from me to me.
Yeah, I bought it from a guy in Louisiana and I just restored it all and it's a beauty now and I'm really happy to be here because six months ago I had diagnosed with tongue cancer, oh my and I'm a singer, so wow, I'm a drummer, oh yeah.

You coming with that song that's a very white song.
Sorry, oh yeah, yep, we're off the air now.
Yeah, we're off of Facebook.
That's for them.
We're all in jail, damn it.
Tell us a little bit about the car I had, the first one I got.
I took it to all American motors on highway 3 right off Deets road.
Maybe they went through the whole motor and everything.
As a matter of fact, I just changed the water, the rigid water pump and radiator from the car.
So few months ago, yeah, 350 or 455.
350.
350.
Okay 350.
And from there I took it to Rex and FX, which is on 517, right off 45.
Yeah, you get the bodywork, yep.
Then I took it to the interior guy on 146.
So how long is the project going on?
How long is the project taking?
It took me about maybe a year?
Is it a daily driver?
or just show driver.
I'm not on retire from FedEx after 30 years.
I drive it whatever I feel like.
Yeah, so yeah, I fix them to drive them.
you know, yep, and it's a really nice car.
It's a big car.
You see, I'm a big guy.
Yeah Well, it's a beautiful car because we got Conrad and I saw that pulling in it's a cruiser too.
And you probably have everybody in the.
You played basketball, didn't you?
Yeah, everybody actually got to play basketball, did you?
Yeah, I played both basketball and football in Chicago.
That was many, many years ago.

Everything we've done is we all did a lot of stuff Many, many years ago.
Matter of fact, I got married on.
I'll never forget that day.
It was the day the Bears won the Super Bowl in 1985, the year Wow, yeah, that's the year I got married.
Awesome, it sold your field, that's right.
Which I understand they're going to get rid of, are they?
I heard?
that Well, they need.
They need to have a cover.
It's too cold in February, january, on the lake, in the middle of the damn lake.
Yes, yeah, so that'll be nice.
I work with the guys from Chicago Dump Bears.
As a matter of fact, my dad I would just say this briefly, it's car related thing my dad always bragged about the fact that he went to see the Tucker when it first came out and they had a thing at Soldier Field to debut the Tucker and dad drove down from Madison Wisconsin to go see the Tucker and it was a big deal.
Oh cool.
Big, big deal.
It was cool and so, yeah, tucker, at Soldier Field, can you imagine what you wish?
Been there for that?
Wow, I would have.
Yeah, see, I'm from Detroit, so we're kind of neighbors.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I used to go when I was going to the Chicago auto show.
It's in February, but that was my two days of snow that.
I had a year.
Yeah.
That was, that was plenty.
And that was the last time, the big car show that we went to out of town together, I think Probably yeah, yeah, yeah, because you always this own auto show too.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely, those are my snow days.
What was?
your passion to get an old school bill.
How did they?
How did you lead in?
Besides?
No, the guy needed some money fast.
I really wanted a Corvette.
Oh I couldn't get in it so.
I need some money and I wanted old cars so I said okay.
But I should have done my homework first to see how, how part is available.
Parts are not available.
that much for Delta I was going to be like like trim pieces of things.
Oh yeah, trim, trim, trim, trim.
Oh yeah, trim, trim, trim, trim.
Motor and transmission oh yeah, yeah 350 is pretty common.
Yeah.
Turbo 350.
Yeah, just above the car itself.
Yeah.
I can't imagine.
I like the reverse lens on the back Cost me 75 bucks.
So you live.
Do you live near here?
Yeah, I live in Dickinson.
Dickinson, that's right yeah.
Yeah, so you live in your house, which, by the way, you may or may not know this, but my first drag strip that I ever went to Dickinson.
Oh yeah, houston's international speedway.
Oh wow, okay, by the Walmart.
By the way, at least where the Walmart is now in up in Dickinson.
That's where the drag strip was.
Oh okay, there was nothing down here there's pretty much running it.
Yeah Well, we meet every was every Sunday.
Every Saturday about five o'clock at the Lowes parking lot, a lot of old guys get together.
