Which button is it, Jim?
I'm trying to turn on the lights.
That won't turn on the microphone.
Boy, I bet you that gives you a lot of confidence.
I'm Ron Aine and the Cardoctor at your service.
It's late.
You know what?
It's New Year's.
I'm tired.
I'm feeling better second hour, though.
I think the cold medicine is working.
But let's see how we do this hour.
Let's get things going right away.
Let's go to Lois in New Jersey.
13 Lexis and some problems with a no start.
Lois, welcome to the Cardoctor.
How can I help?
I have the 13 Lexis.
It doesn't start.
And what happens, I get a message.
Key not detected or the press great pedal and start button.
And what I have to do is jiggle the gear shift when it's in park.
Okay.
And then it'll start up and it's intermittent.
Do you have a push button or is it a key that goes into a cylinder?
It's a push button.
It's a push button.
So when you push the button, foot on the brake, push the button, do the dash lights come on?
The red, yellow, orange dash lights?
No, nothing, right?
Nothing.
Okay.
And then you wiggle the shifter and it comes and it works after that.
Correct.
All right.
So there's a bunch of things that happen here.
Has anybody looked at this or tried to diagnose it yet?
Yes.
I did bring it to my mechanic, but he kept it overnight and it started every time.
Okay.
Did he at least scan it for codes?
I think he didn't.
There was nothing there.
There was nothing there.
So if there's really nothing there and just take note, what we're looking for is, does
it have an immobilizer fault?
An immobilizer is part of the anti-theft system because if it's not considering the key as
correct, it will typically set a B as in Baker 2799 fault code telling us that this is going
through an anti-theft event.
So be certain that he did scan it for codes.
All right.
That this isn't a case of, well, it didn't have a check engine light on, so I'm not checking
codes.
So it's just important, all right, because if there truly are no fault codes in it, then
we're into something very mechanical, something along the lines of, yes, do you have a problem
that it doesn't recognize a park position?
Could this be a problem with the park switch, park neutral, you know, drive and so forth?
So when you push the button, no dash lights come on, right?
You can't even get the shift indicator light to light up?
You know, well, honestly, I don't remember.
Now that you mentioned it, they might come on.
Okay.
Well, and that's important to watch for because that would skew the diagnosis left or right.
All right.
So the next time it happens, take note, right?
Put on the brake, push the button.
What happens?
It says key not recognized, but are any of the other lights on?
Do the shift indicator lights on the dashboard light up?
If they don't, that tells me that park, it doesn't recognize the shifter or it's not
energizing the circuits because it doesn't recognize the key and there's likely a fault
in the immobilizer.
It thinks you're trying to steal your car, right?
I know it's odd, but it's an odd situation.
Now if there are no immobilizer faults and the lights, nothing lights up, put on the
brake, don't wiggle it, put on the brake, can you shift it into neutral?
No, I tried that.
Okay.
So it's not recognizing the key at all, right?
I think this is going to be an immobilizer issue.
I really do.
And you've got to be able to tell us the difference between lights or no lights and then we can
kind of go down that road of diagnostic.
All right.
Okay.
Thanks so much for your help.
You're very welcome, dear.
You too.
Very, very well.
Happy New Year to you.
Let's go over to, can we go to, no, we can't go there first.
I want to talk about, I want to do this email.
I've been trying to do this email for two weeks now.
Ron, my 2019 Honda Accord has new rotors and brake pads.
Always a bad sign for a letter to start out this way.
First time in the morning, just once and then for the rest of the day, it's okay.
The car makes a squealing sound when backing up.
If I go forward, there isn't any squealing.
I had the brake check twice for adjustments and dirt blown away.
They said everything looks okay.
Before I had the pads and rotors replaced, I heard a slight squealing once in a while.
Thomas.
Thomas.
So my first question is, are the guys that are saying that there's no problems, are they
the ones that did the pads and rotors?
You know, sometimes guys are lazy, right?
There's nothing wrong with what we did.
This guy's out of his mind.
Have they heard the noise?
Because in all truthfulness, yeah, brakes shouldn't make noise backing up.
And usually this is going to come down to, this is either a compound issue.
This is a brake shim.
One of the little shims that the pad sits on in the caliper bracket is sitting a little
too far inward and it's rubbing against the rotor.
Or do we have a rotor, you know, depending upon how the rear backing plates are, are
they rusted?
Are they, do we have a rotor rubbing on the inside face and then after you start going
forward it shifts and the noise goes away?
So you know, you got to look at things, all right?
If you gently apply your foot on the brake, put a little brake pedal on it, okay?
And gently put on some pressure.
Does the noise go away?
If it does, that tells me I'm into something.
Contact pad, shim, pressure, load, the clip, all right?
Something along those lines.
But brakes shouldn't make noise when they're, you know, when we're backing up.
Could it be that we didn't clean the rotor properly during assembly?
Yeah, it's possible.
Although a lot of the rotors available today, they come with, I won't say cosmoline, but
they'll come with a coating on them that we don't even wipe them off anymore.
And actually a lot of the rotors today you'll find in the aftermarket, this is an aftermarket
brake repair, they're putting a gray coating on there that actually helps the pad to seat.
So you know, but there's something more here that they're not telling you, Thomas, brakes
shouldn't make noise like that.
And I think you've either got to go back to them or go to a secondary mechanic and get
another opinion.
Because if these are the guys that did the brakes, they may want to admit, hey, there's
something wrong.
And you know, they're going to do what they have to do.
So just point of contention, yeah, there's something wrong there.
I'm betting it's either assembly or the quality of the brake pad itself.
Now let's go to Clara in Virginia, a live in Kia and a multitude of lights on Clara.
How can I help Ron and Aine at your service?
Hi Ron, I can't tell you how happy I am to speak with you.
I've listened to you for so many years.
Thank you.
My, my Sportage, the dash lights dim while I'm driving, almost, almost out.
I mean, I can still see them, but they're very, they're very dim.
And I don't drive much at night, so I don't know how long this has been happening.
Do they, do they start dim and do they start bright and then go dim, Clara?
Or is it?
Is it?
They start, they start bright like, oh, okay.
And then halfway down the road, they're, they're dim.
All right.
Have you tried playing with, you know, there's that rheostat, that, that illumination knob.
Have you tried playing with that knob to see if changing that changes the brightness?
I honestly, Ron, I've only had this car a few months and I, I can't find that.
It's there.
It's there somewhere.
I don't remember where it is off the top of my head, but I've never seen, I've never
seen anything key is included where they don't have some sort of dash illumination.
And it may just be that, you know, maybe there's a bad spot in that rheostat and cycling it
will help clean it up or cycling it will prove, you know, what I'm trying to do is, is it a
problem in the switch or is it a problem in the dashboard itself?
Right?
Well, because I have three issues with lights on the dash, I'm wondering if I've got some
a cluster problem.
What other, what other lights do you have on?
The heat direction from my heater stays on even if I turn the heater off.
Okay.
Yeah.
The light stays illuminated on that little panel.
Never, never.
Well, but that's, that's in the panel above, that's in the center stack.
That's in the center console, right?
Right.
Okay.
And then what's the third condition you've got?
The third one is my tire pressure light, which comes on, you know, flashes at first and then
it stays constant and I've had all four tire sensors changed.
All right.
So, so when they change them, did they at least test to see, do they read properly?
Or did they just change them?
I couldn't tell you that I know that I had to take it to the key of dealer because they
had the computer to test them or to, or to re-program them is the word you're looking
for.
To re-program them.
Yes.
Right.
And did the dealer actually do the TPMS work?
Yes.
Okay.
And what did they say as a result?
They put four sensors in it, they said, they came out and they said, hey, Clara, your sensors
are bad.
We've got to put sensors in it.
And you said, sure, go ahead.
And $500 later, you've got four sensors and you still got a dash light on.
And what did they say to that?
Nothing.
Oh, come on.
They can't say nothing.
No.
That's important.
They said they've done all that they could that these, that something, I don't know.
Did you have to pay for this?
No.
Okay.
Thank goodness.
So they didn't charge you, but they put four sensors in it.
Correct.
Do you have a regular...
At least I hope they did.
Do you have a regular mechanic?
I haven't gone back to the regular mechanic since my Ford Escape, which I heard you a
few weeks ago say that it's a porosity of the engine block that was causing...
Right.
The head gasket issues.
Right.
Well, that's what happened to my Ford.
Right.
I'll tell you what, Clara, sit tight a minute.
Let me pull over, take this pause.
When we come back, we'll finish up.
I'm Ron Anani in the car doctor.
We'll see you guys on the other side.

Music
Clary, you still there sweetheart?
I am. Thank you.
Let me make you a mechanic, alright?
Okay.
How many houses are on your street?
15.
Okay, so you're one of the 15 and you've got at least three houses around you.
Each house has a unique address, right?
Don't tell me your address, but each house has a unique address, right?
Okay.
Okay, and if they didn't have a unique address and you couldn't identify which was your house
and which was your neighbor's house, you'd end up going to the wrong house, right?
Correct.
Okay, so you're the tire pressure computer on your car. You with me?
Yes.
Alright, you know which house is which because you look at the number on the house.
22, 27, 35, right?
Right.
You know who's left front, right front, left rear, right rear.
Yes.
Make sense?
Yes.
Okay, if you didn't know who was who, you would start to blink because you would be an
overload.
Oh my God, where am I going and who is it?
A tire pressure computer does the exact same thing.
The fact that you have a flashing light on the dashboard, it's confused.
It doesn't know where to go.
It doesn't know who's there.
It doesn't recognize.
Now, that's going to happen either because you've got the house isn't there.
Somebody came in and stole the house, right?
In the case of a tire pressure sensor, the battery went dead, right?
Or they're supposed, the house address is supposed to be 22 Smith Street and it's really
27 because it's programmed incorrectly and it won't see it.
You as the tire computer know where 22, 23, 24 and 25 is and if somebody slips in a 27
or a 28, no, that's not for me.
I don't know what that is.
That's not, I'm not going to, and you start to blink.
Does that make sense?
Well, it does except they couldn't seem to fix it.
Well, we can't, listen, just because you're the dealer doesn't mean you're smart.
All right.
So come on.
Let's come on.
You know how many cars?
I get it.
Okay.
You know what?
Let's not put faith in the fact that somebody's a dealer makes them the absolute be all and
end all.
That doesn't jive, right?
All right.
So if you have a regular mechanic or anybody that does tire pressure work and he's doing
and he can do sensors, the simplest thing they can do here is to plug into the car and
look to see are the houses at their right address.
If he looks in the computer and he sees 23, 24, 25, 26, and he goes around the car and
sees 23, 24, 25, 26, now we've got a programming issue because it's got the sensors that it's
seeing and it recognizes them and they're recorded in the tire computer.
Maybe there's a problem with that tire module itself.
I could accept that.
Hey, I don't want to put a tire pressure module forever.
How many hundreds or thousands of dollars it is in a 12-year-old, 13-year-old vehicle?
I get that.
All right.
But to hand you back the keys and go, yeah, we can't fix your car later, you're out.
Ah, come on.
That's ridiculous.
Something's wrong with this story.
The tire pressure problem is the easiest of this bunch to diagnose from my seat here,
all right?
Because that can be verified with some basic tools and I would say 90% of the shops out
there, if they're doing tire pressure work, this is a 2011 automobile.
This is an old car to us.
If you don't have a tire pressure tool that works on this car, then you're kidding yourself.
Does that make sense?
Well, I mean, yes, it does.
I'm just wondering with multiple things happening, am I facing some kind of computer breakdown?
You could be, but that's why I'm going to break it down for you.
So that's how I want to approach the tire pressure problem.
The heater control light that's always lit up, okay?
Yes.
Does the car have a dead battery issue?
Have you ever gone out to the car and it doesn't start because the battery's dead?
Once about six weeks ago.
Okay.
And what did they say was the cause of that?
Had you left something on?
Is the bad?
I believe that I had left.
Okay.
I believe that I had left a dome light on.
Because it hasn't happened since, right?
No, no.
I'm not even a hesitation.
So the heater control that's always on, is it just showing everything in the off position
but it's just lit up?
Everything's in the off position.
There's an actual off button for my land.
But if you turn the heater on, does it show the corresponding reaction to your action?
If you turn the blower on to step three, it shows blower at step three and so on?
Yes.
Okay.
So is that, I proposed to you, is that center heater control display showing correctly, it's
just that the dash is so dim, you don't realize, you know, the heater control is supposed to
be that lit, but the dashboard itself has a dimming problem and it just looks odd as
a result.
You think that this is a problem because of the dash being dim.
Is that possible?
That's possible.
So, good.
We just eliminated problem number two, right?
There's a logical reason for all of this is my point.
Okay.
Okay.
Now let's go to the dashboard.
Does the car have an owner's manual?
That's the thing in the glove box with about four inches of dust on it.
Yeah, it does have an owner's manual.
All right.
Nobody ever reads it.
It's, you know, next to the Bible, the owner's manual is the most under read book in the country.
Go find that.
See if it, see if it finds dash illumination, there's got to be a way to change the brightness
or the illumination of that dash cluster.
And if not, after you get answers to TPMS with a good mechanic, call me back or then
you can decide do you want to fix the dash cluster knowing the age of the car for what
it is.
But first things first, fix the TPMS.
I'm Ronan Annie in the car, Dr. Clare, I enjoyed our time.
I'll be back after this.

I like the way we kind of zinged our way in there.
Let's go over to Tom in Warwick.
23 Kia.
Tom, welcome to the car doctor.
How can I help?
Tom, it's Alan.
Alan.
We got the dear good name wrong here.
There you go.
He's got it wrong.
What's up, Alan?
How can I help?
Hey, my daughter's got a 23 Kia.
She bought it new.
She's down in Florida.
And right now, she's got 51,000 miles on it.
And she bought it.
She took it to the dealer for the first two oil changes,
which is like 7,000 miles between them, whatever.
And so now she's going to a place.
It's a valvowing quick loop.
And she was having problems a couple of weeks ago,
where she left the house and there was a big oil spot on the driveway.
So they came out and looked at it.
There was dirt fall.
So there was a bad oil filter leaking.
So I should just be coming out tomorrow to clean the driveway up for her.
And as a matter of fact, if I'm not mistaken,
I think that's a cartridge style oil filter.
It goes in a plastic housing on a 23.
I'm trying to remember.
But anyway, go ahead.
So all right.
So they're going to come out and clean the driveway
and she's got an oil leak and they fixed that.
Yeah.
But she says to find out when she goes into the oil change,
she says they do everything from the top.
I said, what do you mean from the top?
She goes, yeah, they sucked your oil out of it from the top.
Right.
So they're not pulling the drain plug?
No.
She said she was, they told her that the
key is have a bad drain plug and they always leak.
Yeah.
Well, guess what?
The way they're doing it, it always leaks too.
So what's the difference?
You know?
Yeah, she's a.
I mean, let's call it like it is,
but she went to the dealer twice with no problems.
So she has a receipt where they replaced a gasket on the,
what do you call it on a drain plug?
Well, yeah.
So something's telling me now that they kind of screwed up
the drain plug and they don't want to take it out again.
Right. I would agree with that.
So she's going to have to go back to the dealer.
What I would tell her to do, Alan, is go back to the dealer,
tell the story.
Hey, you know, and you got to kind of say this nice.
We don't want to insult the dealer, but it was just more convenient.
I went to a quick loop.
Here's what happened.
Right. You know, can you, can you change my oil and tell me,
are the threads on the oil pan okay?
Is the drain plug okay?
Just, you know, what exactly is going on here?
You know, the problem is, you know, and I hate to say this
because it condemns a quick loop industry, but the quick loops don't.
They're not repair shops.
They're quick loops.
No.
All right.
And, and you know what?
We see, we see and hear more concerns and complaints
from quick loops damaging drain plugs than anything else.
So this is not an abnormal conversation.
All right. I have this conversation a lot.
You know, it would, would it be easy for me to say all the quick loops are bad?
No, because I think there's some good ones.
I think there are some guys that know what they're doing.
Obviously, where your daughter is, there's a problem
and they're trying to come up with, with an excuse.
I don't like to do an evacuation through the dipstick tube as on a normal basis.
There's a few cars.
There's a few cars we have that are really old as customers.
21 cars, an O5 PT cruiser.
And it would actually, it would actually need a drain.
It would actually need an oil pan and she's older.
She's on a budget and we're just trying to help her out.
She's just rolling along in the car until she can't roll along in the car anymore.
She'll be 90 next month, actually.
And, you know, we do an evacuation through the dipstick tube.
You know what?
She's gotten an extra six years out of the car.
Kind of a different conversation.
We're trying to match her budget.
This is a 23 automobile.
I don't like doing evacuations long term.
You know, there's that little bit of sediment,
that little bit of crud down on the bottom of the pan.
You're just not going to get out.
I think draining it is more efficient.
You know, I think, I think you've hit it spot on.
I think they've, I think they've created a problem
and they don't want to admit to it that, you know, it's,
but I would go back to the dealer and make that the benchmark.
And then she can decide that she want to go back to the quick loop
and have that conversation afterwards.
Because maybe she just found a bad one and she's got to go somewhere else.
Yes.
I wanted to get them a call, but she's kind of hesitant to give their phone number to me.
Well, you know what?
Sooner or later, they got to stand on their own two feet,
but she's got to decide if she's, if she wants to stand on her own two feet,
tell her to stop calling you and asking for advice.
Advice is advice.
I can listen, I can be as brutal as you want me to be,
but I think the real issue here is, you know, she did take it somewhere.
They did make a mistake.
They did do a problem and, you know, they've got to deal with it.
So, you know, let her go back to the dealer,
let her go back to the dealer and do what she's got to do.
And see what they say and see how they handle it.
And you can kind of,
That's kind of what, that's kind of what I told her to do too.
Right.
It's, it's,
See what happens.
Right.
Because, you know, a 23 Kia is far too new that, you know, listen,
I say it all the time and it sounds kind of negative,
but there's incompetence everywhere.
And you just got to expect everybody until they prove otherwise that maybe they're an idiot.
And, you know, that's just the way it is.
It's just Tom and I talk about this all the time
on the automobile side of things, on the radio side of life, engineering,
you know, we see it everywhere.
It's, it's, you know, there's a reason most of us go around shaking our heads going,
Oh my God.
And, you know, here's an example of it.
What do I think we'll get away with it?
Right.
It's, she said that they already have three complaints against them.
So, right.
So, yeah, here's number four.
So it's, it's, you know, all the more reason it's, it's,
this is, this is exactly why I say it's time to have a relationship with a mechanic,
somebody you can count on and trust because obviously these guys aren't it.
Alan, I got to move along, but good luck to your daughter and have yourself a good happy new year.
You too.
All right, be well.

I really just had never experienced anything like what was going on in the city as far as like,

The church had dwindled almost to nothing and God said, this is your assignment.
And that's like how you know, like, okay, are you from Atlanta for real?
I ain't got to say too much.

Let's keep it going.
Let's go over to Ron in Illinois 12 Silverado.
Ron, welcome to the car doctor.
What's going on?
Hey, thank you for taking my call.
Appreciate it.
You're welcome, sir.
What's going on?
Well, I have a 2012 Chevy pickup.
Last winter, as soon as it started getting cold,
the battery would intermittently die.
No primer region is totally haphazard.
Jump pack when it started, I had to jump it from another vehicle.
Had it to a couple of different shops to look at.
I've replaced batteries twice since then.
Ran great over the summer and the problem started to gain in December
since we started getting cold again.
And when it's dead, when it won't start, the no jump pack thing does,
but doesn't mean anything to me because it's just, you know,
how big is the jump pack we could talk about?
You know, what's the reserve capacity of that?
How dead is this battery?
Because what it sounds like, you're going to go up to this battery
when it doesn't start.
If you turn on the headlights, do you have headlights?
Sometimes it's completely dead.
No headlights, no signal bells on the inside.
Other times it'll start to turn over, but won't go all the way.
Right.
So you've got a random electrical draw, which...
Correct.
Right.
It's, you know, this is one of the hardest things in the world to find
because, you know, it's random.
There's no rhyme or reason.
Any add-on accessories with this vehicle?
No, they're completely stock.
Any cases of interior dome light staying on?
Is there an after, is there an after, there is no aftermarket alarm?
This is a factory, this is a, it's untouched.
No add-on accessories.
No add-on accessories, never seen the dome light come on.
Everything seems to be functioning within normal limits.
As a matter of fact, just the other day, I drove it for six hours, parked it for four or five hours.
It was dead, drove it for 10 minutes, and it started again immediately thereafter.
So it just got completely haphazard.
Okay.
You know, the problem is, and I've seen this with this generation Silverado from the tens
to about the 14s, and it's a combination of fuse box, a body module.
There's an interface module that's known to have issues where it'll just stay on electrically
and it'll keep it active.
So, you know, it's a tough one.
It really is, I'm not going to lie to you.
I would be willing to bet that if you went out there when it didn't start and put a volt meter
on that battery, it's going to show less than 10 volts.
Right?
It just, it's because-
It has, I've done that.
And you sort of like eight, five to nine volts.
Right.
So, this battery is just, for some reason, this battery is dead.
And you've looked at cables, you've looked at cable ends.
There's no chance this is a poor contact, poor connection.
This is a legitimate dead battery, like something drew it down.
Exactly.
Now that could even replace batteries twice upgrading each time.
Yeah, it's not that.
You know, after a couple months.
It's not that.
What we've got to do is we'd have to sit down and come up with a way to monitor the battery.
I'd like to catch this in the act, right?
Such that I know when the draw is happening that it's still active.
It's still, you know, I'd be willing to bet that once you get this to restart,
what do you do when you do restart it?
Do you let it charge the battery and then it's okay for a couple of weeks?
Exactly.
Matter of fact, just a couple of weeks ago, it was dead after running for, like, say,
six, seven hours.
I drove it for 10 minutes and the battery is recharged after a 10-minute drive
in the ramp on the next five or six days.
Right.
Is there a plow on this truck?
No.
Okay.
Is there a trailer hitch on this truck?
No.
Okay.
There's no hitch or it's not active.
It's not active.
Okay.
Just for giggles, can we go back to the plug that's not active and make sure it's stored away nice
and neat and there's no chance of cross-contamination between terminals causing a random short?
It's possible, but it's integral built into the bumper from the factory.
Okay.
Okay.
And you're not, and you're not,
and you're not using it.
Well, yeah, all that is is though, that's just, that's just the plug that they've got in there.
But if you look at it from underneath from the back and I'm always concerned, right, I always
think about the trailer hitch coming in from the back because as you travel down the road,
where does all the road slop and junk from the road go?
It hits the back bumper and it beats up that trailer plug, something fierce.
Interesting.
Right.
Never considered that.
Yeah. So I'm just, I'm just trying to look for the weird.
As a matter of fact, follow that trailer hitch harness up over the crossrail where the spare
tire sits.
And there's, I believe there's a module up there for the 12s that has to do with the trailer hitch
too. And if you're not using the trailer hitch and it's the module I'm thinking of,
I've unplugged them and I've solved the problem.
I'm looking, you know, I'm looking for that random
because this is either a harness that's exposed to weather that's got corrosion in it
or this is an actual electronic component that won't shut off.
And the only other, the only other thing I can do is break down the wiring harness,
go to the ignition switch, look at the feed coming into the ignition switch,
figure out which wire is which wire in a bulb so that I know when I turn the key off,
that bulb is out. If that bulb is still lit and the keys in my hand,
that's the moment when I have the draw.
And then at that point, I can start to either go at it with a heat gun looking to see what's
showing me still warm or hot or start, or start popping fuses one by one.
But, but that's definitely worth looking at.
Go, go for the trailer hitch first and start, you know, we're looking for something bulged
in the way of the wiring harness. No signs of animal intrusion?
Anywhere?
No sign of animal? No, not, not what I've seen at all.
Could, with the cold weather in the, in the contraction of the metal,
could that have anything to do with it? Because it runs great anytime it's above 20 degrees.
It could or is it, is it moisture or temperature related? Do we get,
do we get more snow and rain and that's when it happens or is it strictly cold?
Strictly temperature. Okay.
It ran, it ran great from March through November.
You don't have a heated garage by chance, do you?
I do not.
Might be a reason to get one.
You know me, I'm always looking for an excuse to put my vehicles in warm conditions,
but you know, I start, I start to think about that, but cold stuff, man, that's the opposite
of what we usually see. Usually it's warm, but yeah, is something cold when it's cold,
does it contract causing the condition? And then I'm going to start to think about switches,
right? I could have a bad ignition switch. This could be a bad ignition switch, a cold
bad ignition switch that contracts and causes circuits to be activated and starts pulling on
things. And you know, that's why I say trailer hitch wiring first, then let's talk about, you
know, splitting the circuit at the ignition switch and wiring in a bulb to tell us, do we have,
do we have something active when we're not supposed to, is that bulb lit?
Do those two things, Ron. Call me back. We can talk about it further. Send me the
VIN, Ron at cardoctorshow.com. I'll come up with a wiring diagram for you so you know what
you're chasing as far as ignition switch was. And then we can talk further about it next week
or the week after. 855-560-9900, Ron and Amy and the car doctor coming back right after this.

Did you ever stand behind the counter of a repair shop and talk to the people when they call?
It's an interesting time. It really is. The phone rang this week. I've got a 14 buick that
needs a water pump. Can you tell me how much and when can I bring it in? Well, I don't know. It's
Tuesday or Wednesday before New Year's. It's New Year's Eve. It's so hard to give out quotes over
the phone because you don't know what you're looking at really because you're counting on the person
that's asking you to know. The first thought that goes through my mind is always what's wrong with
the mechanic that's been working on it up till now. There's this thought process in my head the
last couple of seven or eight years, 10 years. Who's been working on the car up till this point?
What did they do that annoyed you that you didn't want to bring it back to them and why are you
calling around looking at pricing because I think pricing tends to get you in trouble. Pricing tends
to get you possibly the lower caliber of mechanic that's maybe he's got time to stand there and do
price quotes over the phone and that opens up a whole other can of worms for me in my head.
If the guy's got time to do quotes over the phone, is it because he's slow because he's not fixing
cars because he's not really good at it? I don't know. I think phone quotes are kind of a waste
of time. I think the better approach is, hey, my car's leaking antifreeze. When can you look at it?
I think that's the way we're going to look at it going into the new year and I encourage you to
do the same. I'm Ron and Annie in the car doctor till the next time. Good mechanics aren't expensive.
