How are you, Jonathan?
Great to see you again.
Nice to see you again.
We were in Detroit not long ago, driving pretty much the same car as we are now, the 2026
underprolute, and we did a video which has gotten about 17,000, it gets like 500,000 views
every day.
Oh, awesome.
A lot of comments.
Yeah.
Mostly bad base, not enough information or assumptions that people have about the car.
Yeah.
So let's clarify again because we did that in Detroit, right?
Yes.
We did exactly the same thing.
No CVT.
There's no CVT in this vehicle.
It's a direct drive unit.
And the benefit of direct drive unit is that you have all the power, the instantaneous
torque from the electric motor directly to the wheels where you don't have a transmission
which there's a powertrain loss as well.
You don't get that.
So that's why in this vehicle, the torque and the power that you feel is instantaneous and
you feel it right away.
The pickup is really, really strong.
Yeah.
People were also complaining about the price.
I mean, but this is a brand new technology.
So, can you explain what will be your answer to that?
I mean, why is the pricing?
Well, we feel that in regard to the pricing.
You know, this vehicle is a very, it's a premium vehicle.
It's a fully loaded vehicle.
There's no other trims as well.
So you're getting a very premium grand touring sports coupe that has a lot of
functionality, a lot of versatility.
You have great fuel efficiency.
We're taking the sport cards image and flipping on its head.
So all the deficiencies you think about a sports car, you know, we have a lot of
space, a lot of fuel efficiency.
So we made this so that's an everyday grand touring vehicle.
So in terms of like the price, you're getting, you know, great value
towards technology features, right?
Hybrid fuel efficiency, the legendary Civic Type R chassis bits as well.
Yeah.
And this can be your everyday grand, everyday car.
So that's, I think the main thing is that the direction in which we took,
you have the Civic Type R, which is a road going, race, road going car.
And then this is a very everyday car that you can drive with,
have fun at the flip of the switch full of innovative tech.
And then, and if you only have one car in your garage, this car could be.
This can do everything.
Exactly.
So can you explain a little bit the pricing line?
I'm like, do you remember the numbers or average?
I mean, more or less what it starts out at how high?
Yes.
So this vehicle is $42,000.
Okay.
Yeah, there's no other trim except for unless you want the two tone.
That is 40, 43155.
So below 50, top, top, top, everything.
You have title, registration, tax.
Yeah, exactly.
So if you compare this kind of technology, and we were talking in
Detroit back in October, the only comparable car will be the Corvette
E-Ray.
Yes.
So that's where you look at hybrid sports coupes.
You have the Corvette E-Ray, which is $100,000 car.
You have the 911 hybrid, which is over north of $100,000.
Two Corvettes.
Yeah.
And then this is the only hybrid sports coupe that is well under $100,000.
Yeah.
So in terms of like all the things that you're getting,
plus the fuel efficiency, fun to drive aspect, you know,
it's still way cheaper than any of those vehicles when it comes to
like a hybrid sports coupe.
So people were complaining also about it's not powerful enough.
So I think that once you get to drive the vehicle, you'll notice
that our powertrain, which is the award-winning two-motor
hybrid electric system, you'll feel the instantaneous torque,
you feel the pickup.
It's going to feel very quick despite, you know, the numbers
that you read about it.
You're going to feel that.
And that's the whole point of this vehicle is so that you can
drive it every day.
But then also have fun while driving.
Yeah.
And you really have to experience it because it's such a
very innovative vehicle.
There's nothing like this vehicle.
It's different.
So I'm going to give a little anecdote about power and
like perceptions and expectations and other kind of
thing.
Years ago, I think like five, maybe a little more, we were
here in LA, well, a little bit north from here in Malibu
in the canyons there.
That day we were doing two separate videos.
One on a Ferrari 458 Spider, which I mean, it's a Ferrari.
Yeah, it's a Ferrari.
It should be fast, amazing and all that kind of thing.
And then back to back, we tested the Mazda Miata.
And I have to say, even though I mean, with all the
respect to the Ferrari, it's a different car and all that,
I enjoy more Miata because you're going 40 miles an hour
and you feel you're going 80 because it's a small,
it's nimble, it moves faster, like you can control it fast.
And you're not that afraid either.
So I guess this is more or less the same comparison in a
way.
Yeah, it's not 500 horsepower, but it's enough for this kind
of car, right?
Yeah.
So what is it?
Where are the numbers?
So 200 horsepower, 232 pound-feet of torque.
And Mike, and for me, I've had S to thousands in the past.
Yeah.
You know, my personal car.
That was a good car.
Good car.
I almost bought one.
Back in the day.
Yeah, I had it for 10 years.
You know, I have a 911 sports coupe.
And if you look at the two cars, you can drive a
fast car really fast, but then it's not as engaging
and fun like you say with the Miata.
And the one thing that I really enjoyed about
sports coupes is having fun at, let's say, more moderate
speeds.
And it's because it's more enjoyable.
You can toss the car around.
Yeah.
Like you said.
So in this vehicle, you get to pick up from the
electric motors.
So it's really quick from a zero.
And especially in city driving, it's very strong.
And then with the Type R suspension, it gets it
really fun to drive with the S Plus.
Yeah.
So I think it's like the combination of things.
And with my experience with many different vehicles,
we want to make a car that's not just a weekend
car.

In these parties, share love with a call.
Happy parties you want.
AT&T.
Connect.
It changes everything.
It's easy to make a call.
It's easy to make a call.
Let's be honest again.
Traffic,
here in LA,
or Miami,
or New York,
or Dallas,
or whatever.
It's not easy to find a day-to-day
racetrack in the public.
Yes.
Atmosphere.
You're going to be driving this car
not at 100 miles an hour.
You're going to be driving it at 40, 60,
70 miles at a time.
Yes.
If you're lucky you can go to a racetrack
and then you can push it a little more, right?
Yes, exactly.
And it's all about having approachable fun.
Approachable fun is very important.
And you want to have a car that you can,
you know, drive every day.
And I think that's like the main thing is that
people have an image of a sports coupe
and what they imagine about it.
But when you want a car,
you also want a car that can do many different things.
Yeah.
Not just one thing.
And we want this vehicle to be your,
like it can be your only car.
And you look at the Civic Type R,
you know, that's a more focused vehicle.
That's where it's a jarring ride
because it's meant for the track.
So it's an event.
That's how I would put it.
So we have these two of these cars in the showroom.
You know, you have a very eventful car
and then this car is still very fun,
but you can drive it every day
and have all the fun,
but also the compliance as well.
So the negativity about it
and like all the,
what people are talking about,
even without seeing the car in public,
I guess most,
not many people have seen it in public.
Not many people have seen it.
Not many people have driven it.
Like maybe just us, the media
and a few other people,
I mean, obviously engineers
and people from Honda and all that.
It's in dealers.
It's in dealers.
It's in dealers already.
Yes.
Okay.
But again,
not many people have driven it
and a lot of people have
comment about it without knowing.
So, but you ran into this,
well, Honda and Acura
ran into the same problem
when they brought back the Integra, right?
So the Integra,
if I remember correctly,
went away around 2003
and then it came back in 2023
as a name,
there were similar cars to that
or like cars that fitted that category, let's say.
Yes.
And then people were complaining about it
and then it won car of the year.
It's been a huge success in sales.
People love it.
So you think this is going to happen
with this too?
I think so.
I think once people get to experience it,
then I think they will have
a different opinion,
especially because, you know,
it's been 25 years since the last prelude,
but when you think about the prelude,
it's all about innovation and technology.
It's been about a grand touring car,
a fun car to drive.
May not be the fastest car in our lineup,
but still pretty quick.
Yeah.
I think that the combination of that,
full efficiency,
the chassis type are, you know,
it's a kind of a blend of everything,
but none of the drawbacks
that you would get,
like in a sports coupe.
And I think that's the biggest thing,
is the whole package as a whole.
Yeah.
How it makes sense and how it works,
especially with our future now,
we're selling, you know,
we're going to be selling 60% hybrid.
You know, having a fun car to drive
in our lineup.
With this technology, yeah.
Moving forward,
it's a good direction.
Exactly.
So, and I guess you mentioned
like the name went away,
how long ago?
20 years?
Something like that?
25 years since the last one.
25 years.
So people remember that.
Yeah.
And actually this car is competing again
for car of the year.
Yeah.
With the Nissan Sentra,
which is a good value car,
but let's be honest again,
not a huge level of innovation.
It's a good value, good design,
good quality for the price and all that.
And then it's competing against the Dodge Charger,
the six pack,
which people are again,
comparing it to the old car,
with the VA, the Hemi and all that.
So in this case,
I think people were probably,
some of the people who are complaining,
remember the old Prelude,
and they want that.
All days.
But technology has changed,
time has changed.
Maybe they want a rotary phone too,
on a landline.
I don't know.
I think that one thing I want to call out is
from my,
Prelude has always had sharp handling.
We introduced Prelude SH,
a super handling that was
precursor to the IVTM-4,
or super handling system.
So handling has always been a hallmark
for the Prelude.
So the engineers and the project leaders,
we ensured that the handling was,
we want to hit that on the mark.
So the car that we benchmarked for handling
was the Porsche 718 Cayman.
Oh, wow.
Oh, that's a really good car.
I haven't driven that yet.
So we want to make sure that...
Mid-engine car,
with a lot of balance and all that.
Exactly.
So the powertrain aside,
it's the handling that we were focused on
with the Porsche Cayman,
because it's really capable
in terms of like handling.
And pricing.
Yeah, pricing.
So we wanted to...
How much is the Cayman?
It's like $100.
$80, $90,000 car.
So you're getting a lot of that,
the handling.
We want to make sure that Prelude is still
innovative technology,
but also handling is also top tier.
So I think when people get to experiencing
as a package,
the handling,
the fun to drive dynamics of the hybrid system,
everything altogether,
I think they're going to be pleasantly surprised
with the car.
So I mentioned some of the comments
that I've been on the video that I published,
but what other things have you heard
from other people?
Do you have any other feedback
from other people that haven't seen it,
haven't driven it and all that?
Have you changed their minds when they do it?
So I saw that there was
like one deal that I posted where I purchased,
like a customer purchased the vehicle.
The customer was looking for a sports coupe
and it was a husband and a wife
or a girlfriend, a boyfriend.
And then they wanted a car,
but it was a stylish car,
but also fuel efficient.
And then they bought one.
Prelude.
And there are customers who
don't want what I call like a one-trick pony,
there's just a pure raw sports car.
They're looking for something that's stylish
and fun,
but also practical,
even though sports coupes are...
In those terms, the back of the car is really good.
Maybe the second row for seating,
not so much,
but there you have tons of cargo with a hatch,
hidden hatchback.
Even with this, you have an action,
you actually have a bench,
whereas other, like let's say sports coupes,
that's more like a cubby hole.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So this 2 plus 2 is still usable.
And then if you fold it down,
you can fit three,
four sets of golf clubs in the back.
So that's why there are people out there
that want a sports coupe,
but don't want a raw sports coupe.
They want something usable every day.
And this car has all the functionality,
versatility,
but still fun to drive too.
And I think that's the combination,
it's the package altogether,
where when you do drive it,
you'll really get to understand
the direction we went with this vehicle
compared to, let's say,
this at the Civic Type-R,
it's a totally different direction.
Yeah, exactly.
That's the advantage also.
You have options.
So if you want a more pure sports car,
you have that.
Then if you want a lower price vehicle,
you can go for a Civic,
what is it?
Well, there's a Civic Si,
we have a Civic Hybrid as well.
So there's options.
So people can choose whatever they want.
Exactly.
So we wanted to make sure
that we are providing different options
for the customer.
So we have different alternatives
for the customer as well.
And if they want this,
they can go and buy the Corvette
or the Porsche.
Yeah, there's other.
It's a free market,
so you can do whatever you want.
So this is just my opinion,
one of 50 years of North American cars
of the year.
I think you have a very good chance
of winning.
Oh, thank you very much.
Because again, analyzing the candidates,
the Centra again,
I think it's a really good car.
It's going to get some votes,
some numbers.
The charger,
because of the same kind of issue
that people won the one from the past
that is not eligible for this price again.
It's going to get some votes too,
because it's an American car.
I think even the jury panel
is more diverse now.
There's people from other places
more than Detroit.
And again, I think this is,
you don't have to say it.
I can't say it.
Stellantis is probably
not an American company anymore.
I mean like European company,
but anyway,
things are a bit tight.
I think as it happened with Integra,
which won Car of the Year in 2023,
I think the Honda Motor Company
is going to get another winner.
I think probably going to be really close.
I think the Integra
in the year that Integra won,
there was,
I don't know if that category
or SUV or truck,
there was one point difference
in one of them.
I remember.
So this might be the case,
but I think we'll see in January,
if I'm correct.
But I think,
I know a final message
that you want to give
to people to try it,
to give it a chance
to experience it
and just not go by
whatever rumors you read
on the internet.
So I think,
when you think of vehicles,
and I'm a big enthusiast
of cars in general,
as I mentioned about
my pass with vehicles,
there's always going to be
progression when it comes
to any product,
and especially in the automotive
industry,
pushing the envelope,
pushing to see
what it's all about.
And with hybrid technology,
being before in the past
was just really
for fuel efficiency.
Now we're combining performance
with fuel efficiency as well.
Putting into a sports coupe
makes sense.
Expanding our hybrid lineup
makes sense.
And I think
when people get to actually
drive the vehicle,
they will get to understand
how hybrid is kind of like
in the future is going to be
the way.
And I think it's like
looking at in the past
how hybrids were in the past.
People didn't really,
you know, like it for
performance
or for, you know,
fun to drive.
So I think now,
you know,
that has changed
and where, you know,
Honda is pushing that
into the future as well.
Let's compare it to other
devices, other technologies
and all that.
So the iPhone came out
in 2007.
Yeah.
This car,
the fluid went out
in 20,
2000,
so 25 years ago.
So 25 years ago,
the phone cell phone
options were probably
the brick from Motorola,
the racer,
the Nokia,
Nokia,
all that.
So will people want
to go back to that?
I don't think so.
They probably want that.
Pager life, yeah.
Pager.
They probably want the
iPhone 17 Pro Max
or whatever.
You're like Android
user at Samsung
or I don't even know
because I don't know.
I use Apple.
But again,
we're not living
in 2000 anymore.
We live in 2025.
And so this is,
2026 in this case, right?
2026.
So good luck.
I think you have a good
time.
We'll see you
in Detroit in January.
And maybe you're
going to be holding
a trophy.
All right.
Thank you very much.
I appreciate it.
I look forward to that.
Thank you.
