dreaming of I had to stop you
know I had to stop and get a
couple games in I heard they
were running up here at
Richmond Highlands Park and
you know I had to stop in.
Well Troy in Oregon as you can
see is not in Oregon Troy is in
Washington on his way to on his
way to the sports gnats
divisional at Mission Raceway
Park. It's like Washington is
like it's just like Oregon with
a nine percent sales tax. That's
all. Just a little more sales
tax the same. I mean I didn't
realize because backing up I
was in Woodburn this last
weekend did not realize that
Washington was so close to
Woodburn Oregon. Oh yeah two
hours and you're over the river
baby. Less than that you know
hour and a half you're over the
river in Washington. Geography
was not my strong suit so. Could
have fooled me. Well you knew
Portland was close to
Washington right. Oh yeah.
Well Woodburn was pretty close
to Portland. So if you. Connect
the dots. I mean. Not that hard.
But we had a great weekend out
in Woodburn drag strip the
summer showdown went off. I
wouldn't say without a hitch
but we did complete everything.
There's always a hitch man even
if even if there's perfect
weather you know we had we had
amazing weather last year and we
had a couple hitches so there's
always a hitch. And you know
given given the forecast that
we were presented with earlier
in the week and the way it kind
of deteriorated throughout the
week. The fact that we got all
of them in on time on the day
that they were supposed to be
ran. We had all the cars we
needed to pay the flyer. I mean
for me man I've said this a
little bit to a couple people
this one it'll take something
pretty special for something to
become my favorite over this
one. Just because of what we
worked through and and you
know it had the weather been
perfect we would have blown the
car count through the roof.
There was people coming from
all over right and just people
that I know. That decided not
to make the trip either from
Montana or California or
Idaho or Canada. That was
probably twenty more entries
right there. You know what I
mean. And there's a bunch of
people that I don't even know
that we're going to probably
come in. And so I think that
you got you got a full car
count obviously we paid the
flyer on everything and that's
just a testament to you and
the Woodburn staff. There was
a lot of people who trusted you
that they were going to live up
to to the flyer and you did
every single thing that y'all
said you were going to do so
moving forward and giving good
weather conditions in the
forecast. I don't see how this
event isn't going to blow it
out of the water. What you did
this year. But I just think
it's awesome that you had as
much success as you did given
your circumstances.
Well and that that's the thing
is like even if you know whether
they whether they knew that we
would do everything we had hoped
to do. They knew people knew
that we would work as hard as
we possibly could to try right.
And and so they trusted in they
trusted in the track the track
staff. You know they trusted in
the transparency that we were
trying to provide. I mean I
posted the weather you know two
days before the race or the day
before the race and was like
here it is and we're going to
race. And people came you know
and and so it just that just
meant a lot to me and you know
yeah I think like you said I
think that earns trust and
builds equity in the event in
the track. People saw that when
the going got tough we were
going to get it done and in the
end like I don't even want to
talk about all the getting
tough because it's like it
wasn't even that big of a deal
right. We had a little bit of
rain on Saturday morning that
we all knew we'd have and we
took care of it. We got to work
and we got to racing and we
finished it up by 730.
You know we finished I think
we finished earlier on Saturday
maybe then we did on Sunday.
You know we finished quicker on
Saturday this year than we did
last year and we had perfect
weather last year. We had more
cars I think it might have
went an extra round last year
over this one but it was great
man and tons of amazing racing.
You know a lot of you
know sub 20 packages no good.
You know heard from multiple
people that the track despite
the rain and the weather was
great. I mean Nick Shepard's
car was trying to flip over
backwards all weekend long you
know and so I know maybe some
of the higher horsepower stuff
you know they just deal with
traction that's just the thing
right when you're going to put
when you're going to put 1500
of the wheels then it no matter
where you go. So it was great
there's a lot of great racing.
We had no repeat winners this
year so it was all brand new
people getting that experience
to park it in the winter
circle get the torch trophy get
the big checks we brought the
juniors in you know it was a
lot of fun man.
Yeah I will say the weather did
come but the track surface was
phenomenal all weekend. I didn't
have any traction issues going
720 well I hope not.
It was very slippery in the
burnout box for some reason
though I brother it is you were
lagging those burnouts and I
was here for it was I'm going
to tell a fun story and I'm
going to tell my side of the
story because everybody saw
what they saw but so I I race
Ashley Thompson's car this
weekend Ashley appreciate you
thank you so much for giving
me the opportunity to come up
there and race but it's a 720
Malibu and it yanks the front
tires out of the beams like
we're talking at least three
inches and then goes forward
yet exactly Troy but I they
put fresh tires on it I'm like
alright got to break these
things in and I go out there
and I do my burnout and I'm
like yeah that was pretty good
one good enough to break them
in and go about my run and I
come back in and Steve's back
there he's like hey man you
need to do a little longer
burnout and I'm like like
dang I thought I like lit them
up pretty good that time got
them broken in and ready ready
to go for the weekend but man
I guess I'll do a longer
burnout and so I'm I'm in the
burnout box and I'm like
longer burnout okay got it and
so I'm sitting in the burnout
shifted into second gear and
we're staying in there we're
we're doing a longer burnout
and so leave it in there I
don't know 56 seconds
and then I roll out and let's
just say John force was a
little bit jealous of the
burnout that I was doing but
I get back to the pit and
everybody's like man you
you're not paying for those
tires are you and I'm just
like I don't know what what
you mean like I'm just I'm
just doing what I'm told but
there was a little bit of a
miscommunication by by what
Steve meant when he meant
longer was a further burnout
not necessarily time wise
burnout so he wanted you to
stretch it out of the box a
little more and he he said
something today he's like
I gave bad instructions I was
like bad instructions but
flawless execution it was it
was awesome man and it was
fun to see you you know you
went some rounds and that car
it's a great car I mean that
thing's been in the final
round of night of fire you
know just a couple years ago
with Ashley behind the wheel
so it's a solid piece and you
drove the you drove the wheels
off that thing it's such a the
the leave on that thing it's
such a funny lever because it
does it just pops them out to
whatever it does that's how
you get your reaction time it
goes up and then it goes
forward at it it's so funny
but it's a nice piece and you
know that whole camp that you
were with Steve went pretty
deep one of the days on one
of the sides you know obviously
JD just was wrecking shop this
weekend coupe went some rounds
in the Mustang and so yeah good
good times and you're with a
pretty good camp man some of
my favorite people on the
planet so I got I got new
friends for life not that they
weren't friends before but now
we're we're more locked in
than ever I love it man also
we got some karaoke in before
the race started so I mean
probably won't get too deep
into our our singing tonight

the whole target said the weekend
was a lot of fun glad you came
out let's talk about some of
the people who got it done on
the track so we brought the
gamblers back this year once
again they sold out within 20
you know less than 24 hours
when we put them out I think
this will probably be the last
year of the gamblers you know
initially it was it was something
to build a little bit of hype
and and some excitement around
the race right that sense of
urgency that there's a cap
field so you got to commit and
get in it's also was a way for
us to kind of gauge interest
in the race when we were first
coming out with it a couple
years ago like hey if this
gambler takes two weeks to sell
out 32 spots then then maybe
we're coming at this the wrong
way right means people might
not be interested clearly
people are interested in the
race and so I don't know that
we need to do it that way
anymore and bottom line is
it's exclusionary right and and
we have time at this time
in the year to run a full day
of racing so I don't know what
the format will look like
next year for Friday but what
I do know is that we're not
going to cap it you know we'll
do some sort of warm-up race
like is what I'm thinking you
know I might get excited and
want to take a swing and turn
this thing into triple 10s
triple 5s next year I don't
know you know that would be
pretty cool so we'll see but
so the gambler winners this
year were most likely the
final the last gambler winners
of the summer showdown so and
we kicked it off no box my
guy Albert Molinari I've known
Albert for quite a few years
he lives in my former hometown
of Emmett Idaho and he just
redid that Nova and it is
it's beautiful man and used to
be in this is back a racing
elite with them I raced with
them out of Firebird at the
classic a few years back
he's just he's just good people
man and and he wrecked shop on
the no box side to kick things
off on Friday he is he is one
of the nicest guys that I've
ever met he he was so humble in
the Lunar Circle and he said
that was his first big check
yeah man to see Albert get his
first big check in man he was
driving excellent there was a
couple rounds I think he laid
down 15 total in the semi-final
and I'm just like man that that
guy deserves to win absolutely
so his car looked good but he
was driving just as good if not
better than than his car looks
so congrats Albert yeah he's a
good driver and he turns a lot
of laps out of Firebird you
know practice in his craft and
and it was cool to be a part of
his first big check he grabbed
the first torch and as you can
see holding that high and grab
the first big check of the
weekend so so that was a great
way to kick it off we knew
Friday was going to go off
without without any you know
issues and and so it was a good
way to start the weekend and
then and then we went to the
top bull side and and Giovanni
Kolecki was just I mean that's
a picture from Sunday and so you
can see a little foreshadowing
about how how JD's weekend
went but he was driving the
wheels off that thing and you
know parked it in the winter
circle Friday to grab the $2,000
gambler win and it was just a
great way to start off the
weekend so yeah JD also
surprising day on Friday we had
two first-time winners he he got
his first big check also so pretty
insane weekend for JD there and
in the dragster well and this
was it that was kind of his
birthday weekend I think his
birthday was actually Monday
but it was like his birthday
weekend so hell of a weekend
for for that guy.
Absolutely JD JD's been
knocking on the door for a big
win for a long time and to get
the to get the win close to
home was was pretty cool to see.
You want to jump into Saturdays.
Well let's talk a little bit about
that we got to back it up.
Let's talk a little bit about
that Rose City garage door hundred
percent payout practice tree race.
Dylan guy flew all the way
out from Tennessee he's who
helped Cooper get down to
Immaculate for the final race
of that of that facility's
existence and I've met Dylan
now at St. Louis and Columbus
and he flew out to hang out
with Coop and support us at
the showdown he was in Gene
Heaton's Roadster all weekend
and and he joined us down at
the practice tree race.
I was the house car on the
bottom both side coming off
the bottom and was able I got
smoked first round Joey
Sheredella smoked me up first
round I bought back in though
and and was able to take it all
the way to the finish and that
was a ton of fun Dylan wrecked
him off the top and I mean we
had I don't know 35 entries
or something we each got a few
hundred bucks out of the deal
so that was pretty fun.

Do you know Ty getting the
dub there on the top and then
me and you went at it and what
the semi finals or quarter
finals and you got the better
of me you were pretty pumped
didn't want to rain on that
parade though.
Bro you don't want that smoke

I will say I was very impressed
on how how money you were for
for not sitting in a car all
a year.
I'm pretty sure my last I'd
say my last probably 30 hits
off the bottom on the practice
tree if you throw out the worst
one and you throw out you know
a red lighter to I don't think
I've been worse than 20.
Yeah it was for a long time.
It's pretty nasty and my motor
my motor got dropped off yesterday
so the car is about to be running
so y'all better watch out I'm
coming to I'm coming to park it
on the dance floor this year man.

after races is is huge and it
just adds so much fun to the
already fun weekend but I've
been thinking on how to make
events fun and that practice
tree races is a simple deal
but everybody comes together
we're all hanging out we're all
having a good time and and it
gives us an excuse to do that
and just get together and bench
race and give each other crap
and and all that stuff so it's
my favorite part of the weekend
every year man is the practice
tree race like that's where I
have I mean because I'm working
all day I'm up in the tower
running around pulling my hair
out and and that's you know
we do that when it's over and
everybody's hectic day is is
over and and so you got people
that are you know getting a
release from from maybe what
was a stressful day and and then
you've also got the people who
are coming in high energy
because they had an amazing
day at the track and so it's
it's a lot of fun it's my
favorite part of the weekend
man so absolutely and we may
have partied a little too
hard expecting rain on Saturday
but uh in the less we woke up
to blue skies on Saturday
morning we told track staff
and other people were like just
show up out of no 1011 don't
big deal you know we'll get
rolling uh I woke up at 730
like not wanting to wake up
and I peeked out the window
and the pit road was dry
and the skies were blue and
you can see rain on the
horizon but like in the moment
I was like oh no it's time to
go so woke up to a totally
different scenario than what
uh you know what I thought
I was gonna see when I looked
out the window of the of the
RV yeah we uh we got started
a little later on uh on
Saturday um but uh I want to
dive into something real
quick before we move on we uh
we've talked about track food
and ultimate track snacks before
on the show and uh you've
always said woodburns got the
best woodburns got the best
and I've just been like yeah
whatever like whatever it's
just gonna be another track
snack but I didn't tell you
homie I came and I'm pretty
sure that I was at the snack
shack every two hours after I
had my first meal because it
was so dang good so the first
day they have this like teriyaki
noodles and chicken I'm like
what in the heck was going on
here and it was like yeah yaki
soba noodles and yaki soba
noodles and yeah bomb teriyaki
chicken man it was tasty yeah
we had a legit chef in in the
snack shack and chef man chef
Garrett don't play oh my goodness
then second day my dude has
ribs cooking like full on
barbecue good good ribs and
smoked mac and cheese mac and
cheese in the smoker dog like oh
my gosh I I could just go to
woodburn for dinner like I don't
even have to go because there's
a race there like hey honey you
want to go on a date tonight
we're gonna go to woodburn
drag strip and get dinner like
they do that on Friday nights
in the summer like when they do
uh like just test and tune on
Friday they just do like
community they come out and
come out and eat and he cooks
up something special uh and
people do it that aren't even
racers they just come out and
eat and uh dude chef Garrett's
one of the best thing to happen
to the track in a long time
uh he's got vision and um and
he knows how to execute stuff
given the the setup that they
have at the track and uh we
love him we've had stuffed
french toast we've had steak
and salmon we I mean don't he
just he's the man yep woodburn
hands down best track food in
the game then we uh we did get
our racing in um we're gonna
start out with a pro side we
had bad Brad Burton um you kind
of love to see it did when he
called me uh well he texted me
like the week before and he's
like he's like yo brother you
you think it's on and I'm like
right now it's on he's like
we're bringing all the class
cars me and me and pops and
Diane it's like and I love most
people don't race their class
cars like bracket racing you
know like you uh and I get why
right it's like there's a lot
at stake and you blow on them
things up or or whatever um
they're expensive to fix and
sometimes parts are tough to
get first stuff and but they
they bracket race the hell out
of them and I love it and and
he came and they rolled in
with that car they rolled in
with uh with Scott's new
super stock Sunfire which is
sick and then they rolled in
with Diane's formula Pontiac
Firebird you know and and so
it was super cool to have them
out there and and you know I
think I think when people that
are of that caliber show up it
puts everybody up a notch right
like everybody's like you got
to drive you got to drive as
best as you can because if you
don't there's someone there
that's going to crack you like
and make you look silly um and
my guy can drive the stripe
like there was a couple man
where it's like I saw the light
he missed it a couple times and
you know maybe round two or
three he missed one and then
like round five or something
one of the days and it's like
there's no way he's getting
out of this and my guy figured
it out and I've never seen
I've never seen a third gen
Firebird so at the back end of
it so high in the air because
he's on the break so hard and
feeding people through there it
was it was a thing of beauty
man he drove he drove his ass
off that Pontiac does really
nice wheelies but but it it
does just as nice stoppies oh
buddy I mean he throws the
anchor out man that thing and
I saw him parking on a few
people when he was 20 behind
on the tree and just made him
look silly so shout out to
Brad and the family for
bringing it down hanging out
with us and congrats to him
that's the first time he's been
to the showdown and and he
grabbed himself one of the
trophies and in the big check
and and I know he had a good
time so that was that was pretty
cool brad was brad was feeding
more people than the snack shack
is what you're telling me buddy
he was serving them up he was
serving up finish lines all
weekend long moving on to our
junior dragster to winner who
did we have as our junior
dragster winner on Saturday
you're gonna throw up some
pictures yeah you're gonna
throw up some photos that's
that's the aforementioned
joey charadella he's in the
outlaw his his dad son he just
did a quick freshen up on
my on my big block and joey's
a heck of a racer man he's
he's been he's been on a tear
the last couple seasons and
just really good kid and a
good racer and he's got a
confidence about him like you
know what I mean like he comes
he comes to play and like
he'll try to get inside your
head and like he messing
around and and he did a great
job on Saturday and got the
win he also was was voted I
didn't have nothing to do with
best appearance just just for
the record it's a deserving
car the track staff picked
all the best appearance for
me and he also won best
appearing junior dragster so
we got the dot in details
bracket box picked up the
fourth trophy the first junior
junior torches ever because
this is the first year we
added him to the program he
was he was killer all weekend
long and and so I did
I did on a Saturday evening
afternoon spend a little bit
of time on the starting line
working the mop but I was
checking out the juniors and
some of the other car but this
one in particular man I had a
lot of chrome and I'm a big
chrome guy I love me some chrome
and it was pretty pretty sweet
ride so it's like you got the
beadlocks on it and you know
it's a nice one you know East
into Peel's car is all paint
and it's beautiful paint you
know he was definitely in the
running his cousin Oliver Adams
has a really beautiful wrap on
his car so a lot of nice juniors
at Woodburn and it was cool
to have them on the program so
shout out to the Schroeder
family shout out to the
Sheridan as they helped us pump
up the purse we weren't sure
how many people would show up
so we didn't have a huge purse
on the flyer turned out we had
a pretty decent turn out of
juniors and teamed up with the
track and they threw in some
extra cash so the kids race for
500 bucks to win on both classes
that's Cole Schroeder he made
the drag champ top 10 he's been
on an absolute run up here in
the PNW the last few weeks I
think he's won three out of the
last four events he's been at
he's just wrecking shop and he
comes from a really good family
the Schroeder family and they've
got juniors they got big cars
from both sides you know his
uncles and and cousins and they
are a lot of they're
fun great people and and good
racers and they won a bunch of
prizes different sides of the
family they were going deep in
the rounds and and in Washington
they don't in Washington I am
Brandon and so that was cool to
see Cole Park it and I know I
know he was still speaking of
junior directors we had a winner
in super pro that was young enough
that he just came out of juniors
it seems like he might still
could dabble in it if he wanted
to Logan Logan Scribner just I
love that car too it's it's a
kind of a tribute to the old
military aircraft but young kid
was on a tear he was letting go
good he was driving the finish
line good and it all added up to
a to win he's really good man
he was good in juniors and he's
good in the big car and they
travel like they go to the
fleeing and they go around in
that thing and he chops it up
with the best of them and I
think you know he's one of those
guys that he's going to start
making some waves and he goes
deep at a lot of races he had
two I think at six last year at
the showdown lost them both but
he was he was two in lights away
from running himself in the
final last year for 10 grand and
this is a race I know he's
wanted pretty bad I mean just
because he wants to win anyway
but him his family his mom and
dad and me have gotten to become
friends over the years and
they're big supporters of
anything that happens at that
drag strip there's certainly
big supporters of anything I'm
trying to do and they've been
out at that race you know
multiple times and so I know
that was a special moment for
them it was a special moment
for me to hand that over to the
young fella he's one of the best
kids that you'll ever meet he's
a hell of a racer and and his
family are really great people
so really cool moment for
Scrivner how old is Logan oh
I'd maybe 19 I think or
something and I think that's
what I heard to I just make
you older than that I guess
but like I mean he's in that in
that range 1920 years old yeah
definitely definitely going to
see a lot of Logan in the
winner's circle in his future
I the way he drives it's it's
it's bound to happen again
that's no accident by any means
but a great job Logan we had
another we had another junior
in your winter that day
let's see we had we had all I
know all four oh no we had you
never mind we had to you already
did him we had Joey and we had
Joey and Cole that day so you
got I got him yeah so and then
you know we had such a good time
at the practice tree race the
night before we decided to run
it back again and no buybacks
double entries but no buybacks
and brother you're on I I I
couldn't manage to do anything
good on track car was excellent
but I worked at it the practice
tree race it took all the money
took all the money swept them
on both sides yeah we were hitting
the top we were hitting the bottom
the people on the bottom were giving
me guff for hitting the middle
even though it's in the bottom
but shout out to Kyle Cramsey
innovations he always throws
down red and dead bonuses for
the race if you're red and dead
on in no box then you the first
three that do that get a gift
certificate each day and we
didn't have a ton of those in
the racing but what he also did
this year was he sent me some
demo buttons so we had
overthrow buttons on property
for people to test out and
practice had the shim kits the
quick shim kits and people were
using them you know a lot of
people that were hitting the
bottom were using the the
overthrow button and a couple
people that were hitting the
top were shimming it up all the
way and then adding a little bit
of delay and hitting the top
with the long throw button and
it was a lot of fun so shout
out to Kyle and Cramsey
innovations if you haven't
checked out the overthrow
button and you're and you're a
bottom build car I don't know
what you're doing because it's
the best one in the game and
and Kyle's a good dude to work
with so shout out to Cramsey
not that I'm anybody special
but I use the Cramsey button in
our bracket car and once again
hands down the best button in
the game there's not even one
close to it I've used a couple
different buttons but a Cramsey
one is just so simple on with
the shims you can change the
way that thing snaps man I mean
it's a cartoon like it's legit
I've heard I've heard of a
couple other ones that are
known to stick and you don't
go anywhere when you leave
but you're not going to have
any problems with the Cramsey
but one other thing that I
want to talk about is is your
prizes so there's only one
winner at the end of the day
in each class right but there
was a lot of winners as in you
walked away with a prize you
had tons of prizes if you
didn't walk away with something
that's just a I don't I can't
think of the word but lots of
people walked away with cool
prizes you got dialed in
details you had fog it you had
all sorts of stuff that you
was given away and well yeah
and like that so a couple
things we pumped up the purse
this year below the top line
because it is a top heavy race
a little bit show me a bracket
money big money bracket flyer
that's not a little top heavy
right that's kind of the whole
point but when you have the
smaller fields in a region like
we have like it's hard to have
a top line like that and then
pay super deep and keep your
entry fees reasonable right and
so you you have a big top line
but we had some folks step up

they kind of double dipped in

again this year the presenting

my man Frank Pettit through in
cash money the Northwest Drag
Racing Association through in
cash money and then the how
family through cascade truck
body and trailer sales added
cash bonuses so we were able
to pump up the actual prize
money but even still right
it's a big money bracket race
and only one person can win
each day and you know I'm not
going to pay you for losing
third round especially when you
can buy back into second round
like you don't get nothing to
lose third round make it to the
fourth round and now you can
start talking about getting
in some money but for everybody
else we had best losing package
bonuses from Kelly Griggs racing
Steve Kelly threw down like 30
40% more than he threw down
last year pumped that up so
we're handing out $100 bills
BW take double gave me a stack
of $100 bills to throw down we
had thousand details gift
certificates all kinds of stuff
man one of the prize
packs was a Mac tools
prize pack they had some air
hoses and like flyer packages
oh my gosh I was like shout out
to Jeremy Weaver and Candace
Weaver's Jeremy Reaver's
Matco tools for that those
were I was I was trying to lose
the lose some rounds with good
packages just so I could get
the prize back buddy we had
we had second round best
losing packages we had third
round best losing packages we
had ultimate best losing
packages so we would I'm doing
everything I can we're doing
everything we can to give
everybody an opportunity to
walk away with something we
keep our apparel prices
super reasonable 20 bucks
for shirts 20 bucks for hats
and every every piece of
apparel got you an entry into
a $500 drawing to shop strange
screen printing a man Danny
who makes the shirts who makes
the hats and we gave that out
so now someone can get some
racing shirts made or some
shirts for their business or
something like that we had
the trip zip coins the track
stepped up and started throwing
up trip zip shirts and their
own coins and like it was just
trying to make it a good time
for everybody make sure
everybody left with something
some more people that had a
great time parked it in the
winter circle on Sunday we
had Mr. Hudson McGee in
brother you're extra junior
yes Hudson McGee almost won
himself an MVP award if I had
one he was in the final on
Saturday and run it up and
came back the next day it
was in the final again and
got the win so my man turned
on all but one winlight this
weekend you know of all the
possible winlights he could
have turned on he turned all
of them on except one so
shout out to Hudson and again
another super solid family
Jeremy McGee just one of the
one of the funnest guys you
ever hang out with at the
track and you know Hudson's
just a great kid so it was
really cool to see him park
that thing in the winter
circle get a big check so
shout out to Hudson one of
my one of the things that I
did notice watching the
junior drags your classes
and there's lots of different
ways that parents run their
juniors but the way Hudson
and his family run it his
dad starts them up they look
at each other they listen to
it a little bit give each
other a thumbs up and he goes
in stages and makes one
there's no fuel tuning on it
it's just Hudson will in the
crap out of it.

that's Xavier Heaton he was
actually racing a junior this
weekend like you were talking
about like Logan being able
to wheel a junior man Xavier
also can drive a big car but
he still hasn't aged out a
junior so he does it both
it's like if you can give him
two opportunities to race
he'll race in both so he'll
hop out of a junior and then
hop in junior street and he'll
just drive anything so yeah
shout out to Hudson and the
McGee family congratulations
on that win and then Hayden
Colton my girl was ripping
ripping it this weekend and
really cool little dragster
there she's just a super
sweet girl and and she was
driving great and it was really
really neat to to get to get
those pictures and hand that
to her I think she went out
second round the first day the
rain you know and different
things probably was starting
to make the weekend feel like
not a very good weekend turned
it around on Sunday got the
win so shout out to Hayden
nice job miss Colton great
work and then we have big time
Jed my guy's a wrecker man
this was this was really fun
to watch so Jed's going eight
fifties in the like 81 or
heck yeah but I like I said
I was spending a little time
on the mop on Saturday
afternoon and I was watching
Jed he he went really deep
on Saturday to got himself
the MVP award in the pro
class so yeah he he made it
to the quarters on Saturday
and then on course on Sunday
got the win and on the way
to the win took out Brad
Burton who was kind of tied
with him for the MVP of the
weekend in pro and it was
like oh well here we go
head to head whoever wins
this is is the you know is the
MVP and Jed got the winlight
there and then took it all
the way took out Henry
Roberson in the in the semi
finals you know I think Henry
had some some issues with
the shifter Jed recognized
the the look wasn't right
and and he made the right
decision to to get off the
gas and and you know tough
break for Henry who who was
going for a three P and he
was getting close to it and
he just went on a marathon
run to Chicago for his day
job got back super late his
dad was waiting for him with
the car with everything loaded
up ready to go and they made
the burn all the way up from
Sacramento the night before
just to try to race for one
day and that's why Henry is
my guy because he supports
us like that you know come
hell or high water he's going
to be there and and so he
didn't get the three Pete
but he made a good showing
and and man to to see Jed
Park it like that was just
super cool that young kid is
is super good that whole family
man the Biscay's like they're
good all of them yes they are
like you don't want to mess
around with those dudes and
so it was cool to have Jed
Park it man especially in that
fashion driving from way out
front in a street car basically
you know what I mean it says
I see your super stalker and
they don't scare me a bit no
he's cool as a cucumber man
so shout out to big Jed
Biscay congratulations young
fella and then we've already
showed this picture J. D.
Kolecki brings in two big checks
he got his first and he got
a second and he got his ketchup
cup cups all in the same weekend
yeah man you know the day
before Logan Logan race Marco
Paravolaris in the final you
know him and Lella came up
and and like immediately went
to work right Lella is one of
the best dialers and crew
people in the game put Marco
on the number all weekend long
he came up short in the final
on Saturday he's down to three
cars right when we're down to
three cars it's Marco Dustin
Martin and JD like just you
know some guys who had been
just wrecking shop all weekend
long and ultimately it's it's
Dustin and and JD in the final
and you said that you said it
was those three in the in the
semis and and at the time and
I was looking at a lot of their
runs and I I could not pick a
driver as my favorite that's
how phenomenal they were all
driving I thought Dustin was
going to do it to be honest
with you I thought Dustin
Martin was going to was going
to get it and he laid down a
heck of a lap you know he laid
down 24 total in the final but
he was locked out because JD
was 17 dead zero you know and
so nice job by JD to just step
up when it mattered you know
dead zero is probably a little
you know kind of a little close
there but you know he had he
had the room and and my guy was
driving confidently he knew where
he was on the track and he knew
what his car could do so you
know no need to lift if you're
going dead on absolutely well
and that wrapped it up man and
that was that was the third
annual summer showdown it was
it was great I appreciate you
for coming up everybody else
who came out we paid out over
60,000 in cash and prizes and
we had a blast so yeah just
reliving the weekend I'm already
excited for next year next year
I'm going to commit right here
Troy I'm bringing my own stuff
up and about six other cars
with my family and we're going
to we're going to be there you
just committed a whole bunch
of other people to some stuff
that they don't know about yet
I love I'm coming there coming
to so I had so much I had the
most fun I've had in a long time
at a drag strip and I didn't
even do that great and so if I
if I can do that with the people
that I love most that's just
going to be ten times the fun
so hats off to you and all your
hard work but I'm excited about
next year so is there anything
that you think you'd want to
change other than like the shoot
out what do you think you could
do better what do you think
that you did great what's what's
the plans for next year if you've
thought about it that far yet
well one of the things we're
going to do is we're going to
combine it sixteen we've been
running the two colors out to
the end and then the winners of
each color racing in the final
and as long as the car count is
the right number of cars it
works just fine and I've done
that because I wanted to
incentivize doubling I don't
like making doubles run doubles
because that well why double
if you're going to drop a bunch
if you're going to drop them
half of them you know it just
kills the incentive for doubling
the other thing is running
double separate takes a long time
because you wind up with almost
an extra round within around
every time waiting for people
to come back around so I put
doubles on both colors I'm going
to keep doing that but we're
going to ladder at sixteen cars
combine the colors and if it
works out to where you can run
yourself in the final great if
you have to race yourself at
sixteen that's just how it's
going to be and I think that
will help right it gets
confusing down that late if the
car number is not perfect you
wind up with we wound well
this year we wound up with with
one ladder at seven and one at
six and I don't work because
the guy the seven car ladder
has to run an extra round to
win the race right so we had
combined at five we ran that
we ran that through and
combined at five or whatever
we did and and so which was
good I'm glad we were able to
do that because I was panicked
for a minute I'm like oh no we
screwed this up and it ended
up working out just fine so
we're going to combine at sixteen
I don't really know what else
you know one of the things we
messed up last year was the
test session and that went
really smooth this year on
Friday it went how it went the
first year one of the things we
messed up last year is we
didn't let the alternates run
we weren't letting them test
we weren't letting them take
time runs when we should have
been and then when it came time
to run the race we were short
two cars and the alternates
hadn't made their time hit well
I gave my word that if you're
in the shootout you get a
time run and I wanted to keep
my word and I did but what
that meant was that the people
that were in the lanes had to
wait for those people to make
time runs and they were ready
to race and that wasn't cool
it was cool to keep my word on
one side but it wasn't cool
what I had to do to the other
people in order to do it right
and so so we fixed that this
year and so that went you know
we finally got about the time
we get the gambler hold that
whole gambler situation down
then we're going to stop doing
them but you know I'm learning
we're learning right out here
as a track as a region we don't
all do this all the time out
here you know and so we're
figuring it out what works
and what doesn't I don't really
know what else I'd change
beyond that man I mean last
year on Saturday Sunday we had
like I said more cars a whole
extra round of racing and it
went super smooth so I think
combining at 16 is going to solve
some issues that that could
potentially arise and yeah I
don't know man but I'm open
to feedback if there's other
stuff that people saw that they
didn't like you know one thing
we were running three lanes for
a little while in the morning
three and I don't like that so
we we stopped doing that pretty
immediately and just ran two
staging lanes so we didn't have
33 lines because that
messes people up and and so you
know little little tweaks and
quirks here and there but
otherwise man I feel pretty
good with the program that
we've got I think we're kind of
finding the sweet spot for our
market for for what our racers
can support and yeah well as as
soon as you find a date I want
to hear it so we can we can
sharp it in on the calendar I
can say with like 94% confidence
is going to be the same weekend
right it's the weekend it was
last year there's a reason we
moved it to this weekend last
year because it opened up the
first year was in September the
week after ET finals which was
a fun weekend but at Woodburn
that Sunday has had an event on
the calendar for like 25 years
and it's a great event so we're
not bumping those guys you know
I would never ask and they
would never do it this weekend
opened up first full weekend in
June last year and we took it
and I'm assuming we'll do that
again the only thing that that
really can kind of push that
around is whatever NHRA does
with their divisional schedule
we always have to wait to confirm
until the divisional schedule
comes out and sees how that
lines up for everybody so but
pretty confident it'll be the
same weekend next year.
Well speaking of division schedule
there's a divisional in mission
this weekend and we got we got
Mr. Troy in Oregon taking over
the mic up there what say you?
I'm pumped man this is the first
ever Sports Nets at Mission
it's fast up there oh my gosh
and we're going to have fast
weather you know we're at sea
level basically and it's going
to get a little warm on on
Saturday and Sunday like high
mid-high 80s for the divisional
but the Sports Nets are going
to be fast tomorrow and Friday
is going to be rumor has it top
Diracster bumps going to be
fast Cooper Chun might run in
the 740s don't start we got the
Jacks to talk going on every
podcast brother we're going to
do it here.
Well that that was my poke.
No I love it.
Stop alcohol should be fun you
know Sean Cowey set the record
there last year.
Do you think again.
I think it could whether it
does or not I don't know but I
think we'll have the conditions
that would allow for that to
happen.
So it's going to be fast it's
going to be fun I'm sure that
I'm not going to be the only
one on the microphone.
I'm not sure who else is going
to be up in the booth but
whoever it is I'm looking
forward to working with them.
And yeah I'll get up there at
some point this evening I'm
still a couple hours out.
But looking forward to that
and and it's just you know.
I was talking to Casey and
George yesterday on the GBR
show after the show and they
didn't even know what Sports
Nationals were because they
don't really have them out
there and I don't think in
that part of the country you
need them near as much as you
do here but if you want to run
for a championship on the West
Coast.
It's hard to get all your
nationals in without making a
lot of miles and yeah especially
up in Division six where you
have Seattle and then the next
closest one is what Sonoma is
Sonoma and and that's not even
in your division.
So you have one national besides
the Sports National that you
can you can hit up and then
what's next Vegas is that the
next closest one.
Well I don't know what's
closer Pomona or Vegas but
neither one of them are that
close you know.
But still a lot of traveling
it's far right.
Used to be able to get bandamere
and a lot of people would do
that.
But yeah so the Sports Nats is
a great opportunity for people
chasing the world to go get
national event points missions
a beautiful facility in a
beautiful area.
And so it's going to be good
the mosquitoes the hummingbird
size mosquitoes are probably
just now coming out in force.
So I'm not looking forward to
that.
There's some big mosquitoes up
there but but that's going to
be fun and then we'll turn right
around and throw down some
divisional points you know to
follow it up.
So there's going to be some
changes on the leaderboards in
D6 and maybe at the national
level when all the smoke clears
this weekend and I think that's
pretty cool.
You know it's still early in the
season man but every weekend
you put behind you the picture
starts to get painted a little
more and and it's going to be a
fun weekend we're really
looking forward to it.
Yeah if if you want to get
jacked about Mission Raceway
Park or if you want to get
jacked about stock versus
Hooperstrock there's a little
documentary on YouTube called
Four Days in May and I'd highly
recommend watching it.
It's it's about the first
stalker to go in the nines
Bobby DeArmond obviously way
before my time but I still get
cold chills when I watch it.
It's just a solid benchmark in
history that was was very well
documented and it just gets me
so excited about drag racing in
general but especially with this
weekend coming up I might have
to go tonight and pull it up
and and give it a revisit.
Well I'm pull up YouTube I don't
know if they're doing just the
divisional or the sports gnats
to course you can get it on
HRA TV but I think they're doing
the whole thing on YouTube all
weekend to or at least a good
chunk of it so hopefully folks
tune in like said we're going
to have four days of beautiful
weather that gets progressively
warmer through the week and so
that'll be interesting to watch
how how the racing changes how
the track changes how the
performance changes throughout
the weekend and you know I'm
stoked for it.
I hope the top alcohol fields
are decent and you know otherwise
it's going to be a great weekend
to race in absolutely well that
