all right welcome back to another episode of auto off topic how are you Brad Andrew I'm
wonderful this is our third podcast in a week and a half and our two weeks I'm on a week a week
yeah Friday Thursday to Thursday yep and we still get stuff to talk about yeah can't shut us up so
the last episode that we had for the transmaker trail with Andy and Mercedes there was an issue
with the audio sync I fixed it so if you were upset and didn't finish listening go back and you
can listen to it again it's all fixed so perfect yeah sorry about that we're trying to do three
people and then it's probably my dog's fault because I think that she unplugged the plug to my
computer at my power strip and I did not notice it because she's laying under the desk and then
she got startled by something and ran and I think what she did that she unplugged it and I think
that because my computer died partway through that I think that that screwed up the the system so
blame me don't blame the dog but yeah probably my fault so also I have two corrections from the
previous episode I was still pretty angry about the NASCAR results yeah and I threw out my wild
conspiracy theory about the Hendrick teams yes it turns out that the 24 car was in second place
when his tire blew so probably not something that was done intentionally so I just wanted to be angry
and wanted to start a conspiracy theory I guess so still sketchy but a little bit less knowing that
he was in second place he probably would not have on purpose caused a yellow flag from second place
if anything they would have had the five car do it from fourth or fifth place and have the 24 car
get the possibility to win maybe maybe not maybe there is still a giant conspiracy theory and I
shouldn't be discrediting it but that's where I'm at and the second thing is I do not think that
the Starion has clear coat I discussed that in the in the podcast I think that it's a non clear
coated car and my father called me out on that and I checked and he is correct there is no clear
coat the car has just been very well cared for so it probably still has a pretty thick coat of wax
on it or something that makes it not typical old white non clear coat of paint and not jockey so
is not clear coated he personally corrected me on that because he wanted you as well
he told me that he was going to tell you because he came over well my dad and I were working on
the Volvo so came over the garage well I will like to say to him that he said that no Japanese cars
then had clear coat but I will go out and say for a fact that my 78 Colt which is a Mitsubishi
Lancer definitely has clear coat because you can see the clear coat is burning off of it yeah
nonetheless that clear coat any solid colored paints didn't
correct definitely not at that time so it's also probably the reason that there are a couple of
corners in the car where the paint is rubbed all the way through from years of polishing that
non clear coated paint eventually you run out of paint so like both quarter panels at the very
end of the car have no paint left on the very corners it's been rubbed through all the way
is the Colt
you know on the starion oh okay sorry on the starion because the Colt has clear coat so
it does not have any rub through areas it has burned through in the clear coat but does not have
rub through yet except on the roof where the clear coat is no longer there
so but yeah the car is definitely not clear coated so I'll take that into consideration as I
clean and detail it more but those are my pendantic corrections I can admit what I'm wrong I promise
although I think I said maybe clear coated I don't think I said definitely clear coated
I don't know if only it was a recording of it that we come back and listen to

clearly why some of the editing doesn't go very well sometimes
um it it's funny it usually works fine and then sometimes it doesn't work and
we I don't know I'm using the auto editing of the software it I don't know how much of it is an

oh there's a little bit of car news that leaked out kind of strangely
I think about the Mitsubishi engineers still want to bring back the Evo
okay did you see that do the people with the patient with the with the control of the cash flow
want to put out an Evo because that's the important part yeah um
yeah Mitsubishi engineer expressing their desire to bring back the Lancer revolution
so such thing that the company hasn't entirely abandoned the notion
so yeah of course and make a Lancer so I don't have to make a Lancer evolution yeah what's it all
from nothing well it'll just be I think towards the end of the line it was just the evolution
that'll probably just be the name for it but what is it going to be is it going to be crossover
yeah hybrid crossover or a full electric crossover yeah because who's buying
I will hold my excitement until something comes out that I care about that being said
they have made Evo SUVs in the past that I am obsessed with so it's not impossible to do that
they made the Pajero Evo which is an amazing vehicle based on an SUV so it's not entirely a
lost cause until it is a lost cause but let's not forget they made a rally art version of the
Galant and a rally art version of the Lancer that were nothing more than rally art badges and some
different wheels right so I don't think there's much hope but I will certainly
go into it with an open mind until they close my mind off by making something dumb
just start by bringing back the Montero as a body on frame SUV I mean sure Broncos sell well
the Toyota brought back the Land Cruiser that sells like I don't think you could not sell them
like I think people would actually buy them if you if you bring it in as a competing vehicle
to those kinds of vehicles with a slightly lower price point I think you'd have a winner on your
hands you can even base it on some of your parts if you really want to yeah I mean the Landro the
Land Cruiser that one yeah yeah it's like $75,000 yeah so it's incredibly expensive the Broncos
are no longer affordable when they first came out you could get a base model two door manual
transmission steel wheeled one for like 29 or 30 grand but I think that's also long gone so if they
brought something in that like low 30 to 35 grand range I bet they could have a pretty good hold on
the market if they had some on Mitsubishi like good marketing and an actual capable body on frame
off-road vehicle that'll be kind of even if they made it to coma size pickup frontier size to coma
pickup and it's not like they don't make one just gotta federalize it and get it over here how hard
it could it be it's already all set for although I guess in our current climate with tariffs and
stuff none of this is possible so yeah it's who knows I don't know I otherwise all by dream
I don't think about Mitsubishi at all anymore sometimes other than the cars I own
I will say though what I you know being in the
um the automotive repair space every day as an insurance appraiser I do go to the Mitsubishi
dealer locally from time to time to look at a car to be depressed or yeah well I have to go there
look at a car for work um and surprisingly the local Mitsubishi dealer who I don't know anything
about I think it just called Bell Road Mitsubishi they have in their service department in like the
main offices of the service department they have a giant starion poster and a giant
Lancer rally from like 93 or 4 um poster on the walls so they have a little bit of
a little bit of heritage love at least at the local dealership level so I don't think the people
that work there know anything about it I think it's somebody who runs the dealership maybe did that but
at least there's something most Mitsubishi dealers are baron of any history
every first gen outlander sport I see now like the early early ones
just look like I clapped out Nissan Versa like same energy now it's bad for sure are you talking
there's not here either I'm talking yeah so that's not even correct I'm talking
the ones that came out in like 13 the little ones my my sister's car the first one she had
after the Lancer but I think even older than that would be the same generation as her Lancer
like the early ones sure and they came in that like teal color like I saw one the other day it
was just beat and the plastic fender was broken in the front and the flex pipe was broken
it was very stereotypical person was leaving dunks with a big iced coffee and a cigarette
out the window pretty much a 15 year old car at this point so 15 year old car was in New
England or not exactly going to be cherry there is one first gen outlander around here
like the early early one like the 0304 body style ones but it's super rad because it's
got a 4G63 turbo oh there you go and it has a six-speed manual and it also has
the same wheels that are on my Eclipse the ones from like the original 1990 ad brochures
and it's driven obviously by a Mitsubishi enthusiast kid named Brandon who I actually
bought my six bolt timing cover of of so he's got a bunch of Mitsubishi's in his house but his
daily is that first gen outlander with a 4G63 EVO like EVO 8 motor in it so super yeah that's
really cool it's really cool yeah yeah it actually was stolen about a year ago and he found it and
got it back with no damage somehow nice well totally random good that he got it back not nice
that it's stolen no absolutely and Brandon's a super cool guy like if you ever needed any Mitsubishi
parts or like I shouldn't say Mitsubishi parts if you ever need any DSM parts in Arizona
he's the go-to guy he's got a yard full of first gen stuff yeah cool
well uh yeah I don't get anything else that's pretty much all the car news I have
that's the first time I've had car news in three years so
good news for having something there's not much I don't literally I haven't seen
any I mean I'm not even being I don't I haven't seen any new car that's like that looks cool I don't
try to think of something like you know and I don't feel like that's
I like to think it's not me getting older and just liking old stuff because there are sometimes
new stuff that comes out I'm like that's pretty cool but I haven't seen anything it does anything
for me I mean there's a couple there are a couple available vehicles that are like if I've gone
to head buy a car right now like I I like the Corolla GR I like yeah I do like that and the
Subaru BRZ those are fine and I like the new Z car and I don't hate the Supra like this there's
definitely some sports cars out there that aren't terrible and there's still manual transmission
available in all of those cars we just spoke of so there's still some stuff out there the Miata's
are still good there's there's it's just nobody's buying that stuff and the stuff you see day to day
is just carbon copied crossovers like there's no there's no difference I had to do an insurance
claim for a Aston Martin DBX yeah so that's their like big SUV I don't know if it's shared with any
other big SUV but if I didn't look closely at it I could not have told you that it was a 200
$300,000 SUV it just looks like a I don't know MDX like there's no definition to me of why that's a
$200,000 plus vehicle I also was disgusted when I looked at the prices of the windshield and glass
roof up the windshield nine grand and the glass panel roof is 16 grand so if you own one don't
ever drive it ever because insane like if you have a daily vehicle a rock chip and your windshield
is inevitable and for it to be a $9,000 repair like that's an absurd thought process
which yield should be like you know 400 bucks 500 bucks tops yeah and they are for most cars
yeah what's this thing man I always have I always have like gold inlaid into it like a
astronaut like as far as I can tell there's nothing special about it it's just the fact that it's
there are no aftermarket options because they don't not enough of these vehicles exist
in an aftermarket company to make something and asked and can charge whatever they want
because it's the only option available so it's like the entire windshield claim in
his car is like you know windshield and glass roof it's almost $30,000 to fix it like it shouldn't
cost the price of a Corolla to replace your chipped glass like that's kind of an absurd
thought it's not the most expensive glass I've ever dealt with I did what we dealt with a
Bugatti Veyron glass and that was like just shy of $50,000 like five zero so
nope insane really I mean and again there's no reason for like these cars to even exist
it used to be that a supercar was like 100 maybe 150 on the high side
even up to like Ferrari f50 days they would be two to two and a half times more expensive than a
normal sports car whereas now a normal sports car is 70 for like a super or something right
and then your supercars are millions like it just doesn't make any sense to me
I don't understand but I guess it's not for us so I had to write a I don't know if I talked about
in here or not I did a estimate on a 2021 McLaren 765 LT full exposed carbon fiber
just the door alone was $75,000 like this is a $200,000 repair
that makes sense for the car it does but it doesn't a door shouldn't be $75,000 like
if you look on the internet you can see the car I'm talking about it's a widely public
viewed video of this kid getting hit in his McLaren but I have to catch the assignment
to write the estimate so but because the McLaren dealer is in my territory so I got stuck with
that one which means that my severities this quarter are off the charts because of one car
I was like an outlier in the whole company right now yeah it shouldn't be it shouldn't cut against
you some somebody's got an insane car I wrote 10 Camrys today and I'm a McLaren
yeah yeah I wrote 10 Camrys that cost the price of one eighth of the McLaren repair
I mean not that it matters much because you just write the cars as they're damaged and
it is what it is it's not gonna get in trouble for it but when you do look at the you know
averages for the for the year my average cost of repair is $3,200 normally all of a sudden it's
like completely skewed by one $200,000 repair you have a little asterisk there yeah should
that's performance enhancing time but anyway enough whining about cars that are way too expensive
and shouldn't exist and there shouldn't be enough people to purchase said vehicles
um what have you been working on it my dad and I have been uh just slowly moving on the Volvo
just uh doing some wiring but we got a lot of them big wires done uh mount I think I talked
about mounts in the fuse panel fuse relay panel uh set up the harness for that set up a little
positive stud to go under the hood that we're gonna use like a junction point
and a circuit breaker uh as a junction point so basically the original car the battery goes
down to the starter and then the car and the alternator junction at the starter which is a
bit much so we just move that up the firewall basically well basically under the inner fender
we're gonna junction that stuff not on the starter and then built a little jumper or wire
to go down to the starter and bring that power up from the battery cable and then we're gonna
trigger the starter uh relay with a sorry the starter sound right with a relay so just gonna
kind of protect stuff with the relays you know like I said before the car is not stock so
we'll just make the wiring work better for the 21st century here
hey you might as well you're not you're not building a concourse restoration no reason to
no um so it's almost you know we have like now smaller wiring to do
so yeah we're getting there it's pretty slowly you know maybe you know I don't know maybe by Christmas
now I think we'll have it started started sooner than that at least started running the garage
I don't think it's getting driven around but unless the like your dad was asking me this
other night when he stopped by the garage I said well there's no salt in the road yeah I'd take
it for a ride around it's all registered yeah I'm not sure but you know it's getting there
just baby steps and just when we have time so yeah based on what I'm seeing on the internet
you're one of the only areas that does get snow and salt that hasn't seen snow and salt yet so
congratulations to that it's early it's early in the season it got cold but uh it's just been rain
so that's fine they're making snow up north I'm getting ready to go skiing but other than that
it's uh been pretty quiet
which is a good thing yeah so that's really all I've done other than uh
that I did all the fluid changes on Stephanie's car I changed the oil changed the transmission oil
gear oil changed the diff uh gear oil so I think it shifts a little better it was a little dark
the transmission gear oil there's some some metal on the magnet plug but nothing too crazy
same with the diff but so that car is good for a while I want to do wheel bearings and fresh
fluids is it quieter too it is it's definitely quieter um we gotta I want to replace the
snow tires with new snow tires because I was like I was like oh they're like I say to Stephanie I'm
like oh we put them on in 2017 they're like five years old and she's like that's not five years ago
that's nine years ago oh yeah you're right so yeah those are nine year old tires they're not really
at the where bars but we'll just get let's just get some new ones it's it's time for new ones
again like we've talked about a lot tires in New England don't age like tires in Phoenix Arizona
but they do reach a point where they're not as effective as they used to be
yeah let's just put new ones on it's like you know they're not you know I'm kind of adjusted to the
price now of tires they're not that much more than they were yeah tires haven't had a huge impact
on like like batteries are double what they used to be but tires seem to be as long as you're not
going anything too exotic you can still get a set of tires around 600 bucks I'd say yeah I like the
vertistines on my Wilkes wagon so I was going to get our set of those and they're kind of more of a
mild winter tire now they're not like extreme setup for ice and stuff because really the winters here
are mostly just warm rain or freezing rain cold rain it's it's not like you just need a good tire
for driving in the rain we were like a rainy season cold a good cold weather rainy season tire
yeah so with occasionally maybe you're driving a little bit of snow but the thing is like
with the way her and I can work from home and then schools are closed when it snows it's like we
don't actually have to go anywhere so rarely are you actually out of your house during a snow day
exactly like I don't have to get to work in a snowstorm luckily anymore so yeah and then you know
your amount of your snow driving will be done in the Volkswagen to go skiing or to go up to
New Hampshire or whatever and you'll have snow tires on that so yeah and I just know how to
drive in the snow so it's like not a big deal for me yeah for many many years we could not afford
a second set of tires so we just rocked our all year tires all year yeah yeah um what do you
been working on for your project cars um a lot a little not a lot to talk about I guess but a lot
of things have happened I finished up the McCord door handle issue I think last time we talked
about that I had the the screws were wrong and I had to go to what's got to call it Ace Hardware
Racing and go to their bolt department and find some screws that fit the threads of the plastic
handle so that got all taken care of the door panels all now re-installed everything functions as it
should so that's going to start coming out this weekend for um trying to show it as a vehicle
for sale so hopefully that moves it pretty quickly a couple more things I want to do to it but I'll
get into that when I actually do them um the big thing I've been futzing around with this week
even though I said I wasn't going to do it until I finished everything else I have been anyway
is the white starion the 84 I started I talked about it last week I had done the
tape residue that was all over the side of the car and then this week for a couple hours after
work each night I've been going out there and cleaning things like mostly interior stuff because
it's quite grody inside the interior it sat for I don't know how long without that window glass
and who knows how long it was it had been cleaned before that um and I have to say it is immaculate
inside now that it's been cleaned like there is maybe one small crack in a piece of trim here or
there there's one little tiny cut in the seat back like the back of the front seat
but it's nothing it's nothing you'll ever see unless you're looking for it the back seats are still
like soft brand new leather some for some reason it looks like the seat belts in the rear have never
even been plugged into their receptacles like there's no like surface scratches from being pushed into
the seat belt click the clicker the the receiver um it's just been it's been fun it's been a lot of
work but it's been a good like no brain power really needed kind of not quite instant gratification
but quick gratification to kind of get through all of it and the color of everything is coming back
and it's just overall just uh I don't know it's been a pretty amazing experience
shouts out again to another chemical guys product there's a leather cleaning product
that they have that I've been using I took a picture of it I was gonna tell you guys tell
you what it was but now I can't find the picture so I guess maybe I won't um that's odd
anyway um it's the chemical guys leather cleaner I haven't even gotten to the point yet of using the
leather conditioner that'll be next um but it really it really really works really well
it took what looked like hard old leather and cleaned it up to be almost new let's see it's
actually called oh uh I I knew already what was called it's called leather cleaner it's
it doesn't have a fancy name I I actually use it on the Volkswagen it works on synthetic leather too
yes I was reading it I was trying to use it on the dashboard which is so the seating services in
the starting under our real leather and then all the leather looking pieces around the seating
surfaces are vinyl uh and it worked really well and that vinyl as well it's like a it's pH
balance I guess like I say so it's not going to affect the dyes and the colors yeah I use it
definitely on the steering wheels the leather steering wheels on the suru and the all track
yeah other than the very top edge of the steering wheel in this car it cleaned up very nicely
the problem with the top edge the steering wheel is that it's missing leather so that can do about
that as a combination of maybe the guy wore a ring or I know he smoked so yeah and the um
the can not the conditioner yeah like use of the conditioner I believe the conditioner has
or maybe there's a different version of it I have one that after I clean it it's from chemical
guys and it has it's a ceramic coating in it so it keeps the at least in the Volkswagen keeps
the synthetic stuff looking really nice and easy to clean again like it makes it like just stuff
wipe off so the bottle looks the same as the cleaner it just says conditioner on it I think
I don't even look too deep into it I might have a different one then that's like
synthetic leather ceramic or something they could they could I'm going to do this first
it's like the most aggressive like the other conditioner they sell um and see how that works
and then if I can get it to a point where I can put some kind of coating over the top to save that
I'll do that afterwards but unfortunately the previous owner of the car was a smoker the
cigarette ashtray was filled like to the brim with ashes yum so yeah a lot of the dirt in the car
seems to be like tar and using a microfiber and that leather cleaner I was able to get all the
little black spots off everything it just looks it looks stunning inside the car I'm almost thankful
that the passenger side window was broken out of it because it probably made all of the cigarettes
smell go away over time so it does not smell like cigarettes in there at all yeah that's probably
true but we'll see and you get some um fridges fresh put it down the air vents some fridges
fresh and an ozone cleaner yeah but hopefully it doesn't need too much it's kind of sitting for a
long time um so the interior now is like spotless like I have it super clean it looks super nice
it literally looks brand new without I'm not trying to be like hypermolic about this like it
the car looks amazing inside it belies its cost and story beyond what it should so
that being said that's been the past I think three nights I took doing that because it was so dirty
that each seat took you know a long time like an hour or two per seating surface because there's
just so much grime and grossness on top of everything um the car was clearly cared for its
whole life like you can tell just the way certain things are but I think at some point things just
get dingy when they're daily driven and when somebody smokes inside of it so actually I don't
know that it was truly daily driven but it was obviously driven with some regularity that is
93,000 miles on it so not a ton but it looks really good and the carpet looks perfect the biggest
issue of all is the rear hatch has the like cargo cover which is carpeted and that has been baking
in the sun for so long that you can't vacuum it because it just vacuums up all of the carpeting
it's almost like a flocking over the met over the material and that is pretty trashed so I'll
have to figure out something to make that better in the future but for now I'm just going to run it
as is um I used compressed air to blow the leaves and rodent left behind that was on it because they
there were some rodents in the vehicle at one point thankfully I haven't found any evidence
of chewing but they did store like pieces of nuts and stuff inside the car so that's all gone
um and then the big news with the car is I put a battery in it
and it did nothing and I was a little panicked check the battery battery had 12.4 volts so it
should have been enough to make the car come on at least cycle through all the lights to make sure
everything worked um but it just did nothing so that was a bit of a a setback um spend a little time
kind of digging through all of the harnesses digging through all the fuses it turns out
there's a broken connector so off of the positive cable on the battery there's a wire that goes down
underneath like the fender well area and I assume and it's something to do with the ignition I
haven't actually looked and seen where it is but there's a broken connector on it and the
connector to come apart so I pushed that back together and everything came to life so it was
not a big deal it was one minor little setback just took a little bit to figure it out so I'll
have to figure out exactly what that connector is for like I said I think it has something to do
with the ignition switch because when you plug the battery it should absolutely nothing until
you plug this little connector back in so I purchased on Amazon a little while back a big
container of early Japanese style connectors one two three four five blade connectors and they
match pretty closely to what's in the old Mitsubishi's so I'll be able to uh just swap one of those
connectors on there it'll it'll look factory and I won't worry about it anymore so once I get that
all straightened out everything works like works works everything works headlights go up and down
headlights turn on and off marker lights work fog lights well one of the two fog lights works
so I assume that one's just burnt out has tail lights it has interior lights the windows go up
and down well one window goes up and down the other one I hear the regulator moving but there's no
glass the mirrors work the door chime works it plays that same rendition of how dry I am that
my other 84 played with the door open and no key in the ignition and then I power the radio on and
you hear the antenna motor turn on at some point the antenna was broken off the car so it doesn't
actually come up but the motor works so if I find a replacement antenna that can just go right in
there and that'll work still all the speakers work they don't they're not scratchy there's no
rattling they sound like a typical a fire end car in the 80s which is to say acceptable it's not
going to win any base competitions but it's acceptable um the only thing out of everything
that I tried they did not work with the turn signals so they didn't do anything they made no noises
or anything it's probably the switch first the switch engages what's up do you try the four-way
switch that's usually on a Mitsubishi it goes bad like the flasher itself the four-way yeah
for the hazards the hazard switch yeah everything runs through that and that's pretty typical remember
so that's newer Mitsubishi nope would be the older ones too everything runs through it
so check that I'll have to look because I think it's different in the earlier cars
because I've had a similar issue with the Colt and it was not through the hazard switch
that's right I'll figure it out but one step at a time everything works but the turn signals
that's a pretty good start so I turned the blower motor on the blower motor works like everything
literally everything works I did check all the fluids I made sure the motor was free
and I gave it a little crank as well with the battery to see if it would turn over
there's obviously no fuel in the tank because it has two giant holes in it
but the car did crank over so that's a positive again everything worked the gauge lights all
came on the digital readout came on and showed zero so there's no reason for anything to I think
hold me back too much once I get a fuel tank for the car it should hopefully be a pretty simple
process to make this thing roadworthy not finished the way I want to finish it but at
least roadworthy to get it out there and driving so I mean if this is like a if this is like a
mighty ram level save then that's two huge wins for you this year two huge huge wins yeah
yeah the the power ram was a little bit more work I think this was going to be
but overall like yeah two two cars that sat for a long time and went back out and drove
you know why because they're 80s Mitsubishi's and who made a great car in the 80s
so also saved saved by being in the dry air climate of Arizona
yeah that's the one Achilles heel obviously is the rust so these don't have that but
nonetheless I will be pretty happy if they're both up and running and and good this year
they're both the same color too same white paint coat not clear coat no clear coat yes
but yeah this will be a pretty huge win I wasn't going to dig too deep into it but it's
everything has just been so easily done that I don't see why I shouldn't just finish it off
and get to a point where I can run and drive and continue to be cleaned up and I still do
want to steal some of the parts off of the other car specifically the limited slip diff
because the car does not have that this car has an open diff yeah but my desire to switch out the
entire interior to the brown and tan has kind of gone away because of how nicely this interior
has been up the maroon is pretty cool yeah it's grown on me just pack that tan away somewhere
else for something else well my my my future Mitsubishi plans called to have a narrow car
and a wide car so if I found an 86 wide body car that would have the same interior and I
would have the same future someday so that's somewhere in the very distant future but
that would be kind of a neat have a wide car and an air car together again like I used to
but that's kind of my future starting on collection but for now I will be very happy
this car is up and running and it's it's again every day it becomes that much easier just to
to fix and make work so hopefully uh not too long from now it'll be running and driving
and it won't cost me any extra to put it in the road because the old car has been registered
and insured the entire time I've had it out here so I'll just change insurance over to the new one
and then it won't even change my monthly bills so although I'll probably have a slightly higher
agreed value on it than I have on the other car the other car has the minimum
Hagerty value which is 3500 bucks so I'll probably up that a little bit so it'll change a little bit but
nonetheless I'm uh I'm quite happy and also my dream like ultimate dream after doing all
suspension would be to put a racked opinion steering in it because supposedly it makes the car
completely changed and I learned today there's a company that makes a bolt-in front subframe
that replaces your stock subframe uses stock engine mounts and is set up to take a Nissan
240 steering rack yeah and didn't oh what about the stuff didn't techno toy tuning just come out
with suspension arms for it uh techno toy tuning does the coilovers for the car and they have
the radius rods for the car but k sport is right here in Phoenix yeah and uh Ron who's been on the
show before runs k sports in his starion and likes them and they're local so I might go talk to them
about doing the coilovers from them so we'll see but the big plan for the car is to put coils in it
and put the 15 by 7 and a half Watanabe's that I have currently on a Sapporo onto this car so
that is the plan and then put the Yankee 92s that are on the other starion on a Sapporo
that's the ultimate goal but they're learning about that
that uh aftermarket subframe that's set up for a steering rack is huge because one of the biggest
things with the starions is they have a recirculating ball steering set up like a warm gear style
steering box which is not ideal um and something that's a little bit more precise would make the
car that much even better so that may be a thing we'll see what happens it's also not super expensive
probably more expensive trying to find the
steering rack and parts to convert that but it's all just a bolt-in scenario
which we like but I should make the car fun and usable and and also ultimately look really cool
that's the whole plan with this car so and it's cut along a lot I initially too I wanted to do like a
like a back half like four point roll while like your talent has but the interior is so nice that
I'm not gonna do that either nope it's gonna stay the way it is just yeah just leave it
put your Momo in there and Epco shift knob yeah I was looking at the Epco shift knobs
tonight I'm gonna buy one with their right shift pattern and put the Momo in there and
I'll get a little bit of motorsports flavor and it'll take care of the scratches on top of the
steering wheel because that's a brand new Momo in there so but yeah it's it's coming right along
I other than not having a gas tank I think it might I might at least have started it by next
recording we shall see I took some videos of everything functioning with power tonight while
I was out there and Naomi took some videos like the headlights turning off and on while I was in the
car so I'll post some of that stuff up to the Instagram page by the time this is oh maybe right
after this goes live but shortly after if not before I'll post that stuff up so you can see
what's going on with the car but pretty excited I'm glad this thing worked out the way it did
do I wish I found it two years prior when I first heard of its existence kind of do but
life got in the way and it was not officially for sale and I was not exactly 100% sure on
where it was so the fact that it popped up for sale and I got it when I did and I made it happen
the way I made it happen makes me very happy so I don't think that anybody else would have gone
into it like I have after paying you know two grand for it they probably would have either made
a lemon's car out of it or taken it apart who knows but I'm glad that I got it for a deal
and I'm able to save it and hopefully make an enjoyable car out of it so hopefully I think fuel
tank break quickly there is down in Tucson a flat body starium in a junkyard and if I can't find
parts quickly I can make a trip down to Tucson it's like two and a half hours but
it's fine or I can see if my Tucson friend can snag the gas tank out for me
pretty excited about it so that's my project car update I haven't touched anything else but I guess
described what I did because I just cleaned things
nothing wrong with that
they're like cleaning stuff get ready to do other stuff it's cathartic man especially when
things clean up as nicely as it's cleaning up it's just a it's a calming like it's super fun
super rewarding way to do it and I can't wait for people to see the pictures
yeah it's a lot easier working on the Volvo when it's not all grubby so that's why I like doing it
well yeah that uh brings the end of this week's episode mostly just project car updates a little
