Overland Expo West is a big event for people who like traveling off the beaten path. You’ll see lots of modified trucks and SUVs and camping/off-road gear, and it’s a good place to meet other enthusiasts.
Overlanding means taking your vehicle on longer trips, often with camping gear, and being prepared for rough roads. It’s like road-tripping, but more adventure-focused.
Subaru Flatfest is a Subaru fan event. The name points to Subaru’s flat/boxer engine, and it’s where Subaru owners gather.

48 hours of tri-state
“48 hours of tri-state” appears to be a regional event or rally spanning a 48-hour period across a tri-state area. The segment uses it as another example of travel and community involvement, but details aren’t provided here.
This is a website where you can buy Subaru-themed gear like clothing and accessories. The host is sharing that there are new spring items and a discount code.
This sounds like a recurring Subaru meet or event. The host is basically telling people to come out and bring new Subaru-themed gear.
LIVE
Hello and welcome to another edition of the Subi Scoop.
I changed up the music.
This track was actually the second track that I have playing for the intro of the normal
episodes and then the second track for the Subi Scoop.
So I put this one first, I'm gonna put something else second, I'm gonna think about it as I'm
going along.
But this is upbeat and fun, so I like it.
I'm gonna keep it.
But what's not upbeat and fun is the neighbor upstairs is vacuuming at 10 o'clock at night
and my microphone can pick it up, but not while I'm talking thankfully, but when I'm
not talking it's just like blah blah blah blah blah and I'm like come on man.
I'm guessing this person just moved in too because it was like Friday I think I started
hearing a bunch of heavy footsteps all of a sudden and it had been really quiet and
now this person is like I don't know what they're doing up there, but walking around
pretty heavy and it's kind of annoying.
So last week may not have been a fun week for a lot of us, but it was tax time and I
hope everybody got their taxes done.
I got mine done.
I procrastinated again and got it filed and submitted late on the 15th, but I gotta get
better about that, but at least I got it done.
So hopefully everybody else got theirs done as well and hopefully people actually got
some money back because I have to pay every year because of the podcast and the monetization
from that.
So that basically just adds to my annual total income and then I have to pay more taxes
because of that.
But it's worth it because I enjoy doing this for everybody and I've been doing it for
over five years, so thank you all so much for sticking around for all this time.
There are definitely some OGs that have been listening since the very beginning and if
you're still listening since the very beginning, I really, really appreciate that.
Thank you so much.
I know some people got into the podcast a little bit later on and that's okay too because
you found it and that's what matters and thank you as well because everybody listening
is what keeps this thing going.
So I really, really appreciate it and I'm really excited for Overland Expo next month.
I mean, it is less than a month away because it is the 15th through the 17th, I believe.
Yes, that is correct.
I looked it up.
It is the 15th through the 17th, so we're less than a month away.
So if you're going to Overland Expo West, please come by and say hi.
I would love to see you again if I have met you before or if I haven't met you, please
come by and introduce yourself and please let me know what your Instagram handle is
because I see so many faces across all these accounts that if I see somebody, if I see
a person, I don't automatically associate that with somebody's account.
So they may come up and introduce themselves by their name because I've had this happen
before and I'm like, cool, I'm not sure who you are.
I probably have talked to you and I feel bad but I don't automatically instantly recognize
somebody.
Unless it's somebody that I've talked to a lot and I definitely know what they look
like.
There are a lot of people like that that I know what they like.
If I were to meet them, I would probably know who they are.
But sometimes either I've seen them very few times or there's some people that just don't
have their face on their account and so when somebody comes up and starts talking to you,
you don't know who they are because you've never seen them before.
All right, so right now, you're hearing this right now.
Let's make that a rule that if you go to an event and you go up and introduce yourself,
say your name and then let them know I am such and such on Instagram because that's
how a lot of us connect is through Instagram.
So I think because a lot of people end up saying like, oh, we should wear name tags
with our Instagram handle, which I think is actually a really good idea.
But if you're going to go up and introduce yourself to somebody for the first time, if
you're meeting unless it's somebody that you have definitely been talking to and you
know exactly who they are, but if you walk up to somebody and you're going to introduce
yourself, introduce your name or introduce yourself with your name and your Instagram
handle, then that way they could say, oh, cool, I know exactly who you are.
We've talked for a while, we've talked a few times, we've been talking for five years
and I still didn't know what you look like, but now I do and it's great to meet you.
Let's do that.
Speaking of meeting people, I just counted up how many people I have met in person that
I've had on my podcast.
And of course, this includes people that live here in the Houston area or that live nearby.
So just anybody that has been a guest that I've actually met in person.
And I am up to, if my calculations, if I counted up right, because there's some people in there
that I think that maybe I met, but I'm not 100% sure.
But if I'm correct, it's 105 of my guests that I've met in person.
And that is between going to Boxerfest in 2022, or no, Boxerfest in 2021, Subifest, California
in 2022, Subifest, Texas, and also going to all the Overland Expo events last year and
then going to Subaru Flatfest in 2022.
So, oh, and 48 hours of tri-state.
So between all of that traveling that I've done and the different places that I've been,
oh, and also the one year anniversary of Soft Road Nation back then.
So with all the places that I've been very, very blessed to go to, because I live in Houston
and I've been basically kind of like all over the country and I've been able to meet so
many people.
So I'm excited for Overland Expo this year because I'm hoping to meet more people for
the first time, meet new people.
That is always exciting.
That's like one of the most exciting things for me because I feel very isolated here.
We have a little bit of a Subaru community here, but there's not a ton of people and
we don't always do stuff.
And so, you know, whenever I get a chance to meet anybody or see anybody again that
I've met before that I know, that's always fun.
So I look forward to these trips because they're really the opportunity to see people that
I normally wouldn't see and I really like that.
And this person is still vacuuming.
It sounds like they're going over the same spot over and over and over again.
It's like so loud, so annoying.
Vacuum during the day, in the middle of the day, not at 10.30 at night, come on.
So with all the meeting people and traveling stuff being said, if you have an opportunity
to go somewhere, to go to an event or travel somewhere and, you know, just go somewhere
different and you know that you're going to meet up with somebody or you have the opportunity
to do that, please take advantage of that because it's so cool.
It's so fun to meet with people, but I also have to throw this in, of course, but please
go check out SubaruGear.com because there is a lot of really great gear.
They've also got some new items in there.
If you go to the new tab, their spring lineup is in there and you can see all the new stuff
that's in there.
So I'll be dropping something new on Tuesday, so look out for that.
So that's my schedule.
Every Tuesday I'm going to drop a new item from Subaru Gear and so be on the lookout
for that.
And it's going to be on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube short.
So if you're going to Overland Expo next month or check this out, Wicked Big Meat is
coming around again.
Didn't we just have Wicked Big Meat?
These years are going by too fast, but show up at these events in style.
Show up with some new Subaru Gear.
Go to SubaruGear.com, browse the entire site, fill up your cart and save 20% with the code
SUBIENU2026.
If your total is over $50 after the 20% discount, you'll get free shipping also.
So that's a really great deal.
So go shop SubaruGear.com and let's thank them so much for bringing this great offer
to everybody listening.
So that's going to wrap it up for this edition of the SUBI Scoop.
I hope you all have a wonderful week and again, if you're going to be going to Overland
Expo and Flagstaff next month, come by, say hello, introduce yourself, let me know what
your Instagram handle is and let's have a conversation.
I'm really looking forward to it.
I know I'll see people that I've, that I know that I will see again and I'm excited
to see some new people.
Thank you so much for tuning in.
Thank you for sticking around.
I really appreciate it.
Much SUBI love, wrap.
