An incredibly talented race car driver from New Zealand who won three championships in Australia before moving to America. He famously won his very first NASCAR race in 2023, a feat that hadn't been accomplished in decades, and is known for his amazing footwork and control on twisty tracks.
A highly popular racing series in Australia featuring loud, powerful V8-engined sedans. Because the cars are very heavy and hard to control, the drivers who race them develop incredible car-handling skills.
A part in the rear of a race car that locks the back wheels together so they always spin at the exact same speed. This makes it harder to turn corners smoothly, but it gives the car great traction when accelerating in a straight line.
The newest style of race car used in NASCAR's top division. It was designed to look more like modern sports cars you can buy in a showroom and features updated technology like a single center wheel nut and independent rear suspension.
A control that lets a race car driver choose whether the front brakes or the rear brakes do more of the stopping work. Drivers adjust this during a race to keep the car stable depending on whether they are going uphill, downhill, or trying to turn.
A violent shaking or bouncing of a car's wheels when a driver brakes or accelerates too hard, causing the tires to rapidly grip and slip on the pavement.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is a large pickup truck that runs entirely on battery power instead of gasoline. It is made by Ford and looks very similar to their traditional trucks, but it operates quietly. Because it has no gas engine, it features a large extra storage space under the front hood.
A system in NASCAR similar to team franchises in other sports. It guarantees that the 36 teams holding a "charter" get to race in every single event and receive a guaranteed share of the prize money.
When a modern Formula 1 car runs out of battery power on a long straightaway, causing it to suddenly slow down slightly before the driver even hits the brakes.
A button that Formula 1 drivers can press to open a flap in their rear wing. This reduces wind resistance and makes the car go much faster on straightaways to help them pass other cars.
An incredibly powerful American muscle car famous for having a supercharged V8 engine that makes a loud whining noise and produces massive amounts of horsepower.
The Chevrolet Corvette is a famous two-seat sports car made by Chevrolet. It is designed to go fast, look sleek, and handle sharp turns. The modern version has its engine placed in the middle of the car behind the seats to help it balance better.
A massive mountain in Colorado where racers drive custom cars up an incredibly steep, twisty road with scary drop-offs and no guardrails to see who can reach the top the fastest.

Small, scaled-down race cars that look like old-fashioned cars from the 1930s but run on powerful motorcycle engines. They are used to teach young drivers how to race.
LIVE
All right, friends, we are back another week, another penny stacked.
According to the joy here alongside, red eye flying, kid watching, tired changing, Ryan
Flores.
Whatever it takes, man.
I saw, usually don't fly commercial.
Very lucky to fly team playing.
So spoiled.
Well, I'll tell you what's nice though, the AmEx lounge, the old Chanchurian lounge.
If you can't pronounce the name, you shouldn't be allowed it.
You have to show your card.
No, all you gotta do is spend the money, brother.
If you spend the money, you're allowed in.
You don't have to pronounce nothing.
But I'm starting to get a little crowded though.
It is getting crowded.
But yeah, the food in there is way better than what we get on the team planes.
But I saw Marty Smith in the TSA line yesterday.
And I was like, man, you're getting...
On the way back.
Yeah, we're both got the same.
Did you see us tweeting about red eyes?
No, what'd he say?
I didn't see it.
But keep talking.
He's like, man, I was like, dude, it's so good to see you back.
He started in NASCAR.
He's had a great career.
And he's like, you must be wore out.
You've been out here the whole week.
And I was like, dude, I've had a blast.
I'm not tired.
You say you need a vacation for vacation.
I don't need that at all.
We had a great time.
I mean, y'all are living a good life.
It's like fantasy land out there.
I'll tell you, if you ever do the Pacific Coast Highway, make sure you don't do the
last half of it at night like I did.
Because dude, we stopped.
The kids wanted to...
So I'll take you through my week.
Hang on.
Marty Smith said, red-eye flights are like picking up hoops and midnight cocktails.
Seem like a really solid idea until it's over.
And your body feels like it's squared off against a 1989 Mike Tyson.
I'm not even there yet.
I'm just still running on adrenaline.
Nicotine and caffeine.
That's it.
Equals protein.
And gasoline.
So we went from Coronado to Disneyland for a couple days.
We hung out at Disneyland.
That was great.
Kids wanted to stay at Disneyland a little bit later and play in the water park on Wednesday.
So then we drove up, stopped to see our friends at Cherry there in Malibu.
And then like, I'm driving and I'm like, I'm doing this Pacific Coast Highway.
Like I'll never get to do it again.
And it was a great idea.
And I'm watching the sunset and I'm like, oh, I'm not going to make it.
There's a stretch of that.
Like when you get to that big Sur area, that is just worse than driving to Bristol down
the Dragon's Tail.
You lose service.
And it's one of those where you're like, you got the kids in the back and it's like, if
I get a flat here, I am in one.
And you start seeing the deer and you're like, 10 and 2 white knuckles.
So that was that was the only sketchy part.
Carmel got to see all that.
Sonoma, San Francisco, the whole deal.
You did San Francisco.
Oh yeah.
My kids in the full house, into the full house house.
What's that?
What's the like the Bay, the wharf.
We went there years ago.
What is that area?
That's the Bay area.
Yeah.
So he did all that and then up to Sonoma and we just had a blast, man.
It was great.
And the race, the two, the fans show out there the way that that whole deal set up.
Got to go in the fan zone, see our friends at Heatwave, got some sunglasses.
Like I haven't really been in the fan zone, went out there with the kids and it's like
kind of connected to the garage.
So they got to do all that fun stuff and it was just a great week out in California.
Like really cool.
I saw Steve O'Donnell just by chance in Carmel, California, walking down the road.
And I was like, man, I so appreciate it.
On the side of the road?
He was just walking down the beach with his wife.
And I was like, I'm so appreciate it.
Oh, it was like he had a flat tire and he was like going to the gas station.
No, he was just like sightseeing.
Oh.
But I was like, man, forever, like 20 years in the sport, like forever.
It was two Poconos, two Dovers, two Michigan's like everywhere twice.
And this, especially this time of year would get super stale.
So to be able to do that and have that trip with the family and experience everything
that we had to experience California, it was, it was really fun from San Diego all the way
up to Sonoma.
And here we are today after a red eye, which was not a great idea.
Another red eye, another ass kicking by SVG.
Buddy.
How?
We're actually going to break down.
We've, we talked about, everybody talks about all the same stuff, right?
Given SVG is flowers, talking about how good he is and why he's good and using the clutch.
And he's the only guy that can keep the tires on it for that long.
So we were actually going to get into and break down later in the show V8 Supercars.
Because that's something that is near and dear to our heart.
We've had several guests on this show to really and truly break down what a V8 Supercar is
and what skills that these guys learn.
These guys being SVG in particular, but Cam Waters came over a couple years ago or last
yeah, a couple years or two years ago.
Brody Kastecchi.
Brody Kastecchi, right?
These got him a Glocklin.
You know, these guys are churning out some world class race car drivers and we're going
to, we're going to break down what a V8 Supercar truly is later in the show here.
But.
Dude, Shane had some pressure.
I didn't realize how close he was at the end.
Yeah, so it was interesting to hear him talk about post race.
How if it's a straight up tire race, drop of a green on a restart, he can manage it better
because guys go real hard to try to keep pace.
But that one was in the middle of a cycle, right?
So guys could pace earlier in the run like the 19 could pace and keep up.
And it seemed like the SVG's car fell off a cliff and the 19 came on strong.
And the Toyotas are just fast.
I'll tell you who probably could have beat him was Ty Gibbs, but Ty went for points.
So he got 20 stage points on the day.
And you kind of.
I thought, I still thought that's the right move.
You're always going to think back, oh, should have could have.
If anybody could have beat SVG yesterday, it was 54.
And those guys parked their car in our pit stall for tech.
So I was talking to Cheddar as we were tearing down and he's like, ah, it was okay.
I think we could have got him.
So they felt like there was a little bit of meat on the bones.
I think he was better than 19.
And the only way for him to be able to do that was to not flip the second stage.
Yeah.
Or maybe even, you know, maybe both.
But like SVG, no, he drove back to like ninth.
They both second stage after he flipped it.
They both got I think SVG got stage points in both stages after flipping both of them.
That's how fast and the 54 was in front of him.
So he probably could have done that.
And neither here nor there.
But man, Shane, I see him going on like one quick thing on points.
We're gonna be if we're gonna stick on points.
I did not have on my bingo card, Denny Hamlin over the last two weeks getting the points.
That's absurd.
I saw it coming.
I saw it coming.
And then the 45s on Pit Road, they have power steering pump.
And it's just the elevator down and staircase up and what?
Holdy, holdy, holdy.
That's been Denny.
He's just been trying.
And and even I would even say the 11 had a he didn't have a good day.
He got turned around.
How do you get turned around by?
By Brad.
Oh, yeah.
Or the guy behind Brad off the nose of that's the problem.
Right.
It's like if you swap the numbers out of if you put a nine on the side of the 77 car,
if you put a 43 any other number besides the 77 in Carson, he might get the benefit
that the problem is he's burned all those credits years ago.
So of course, he's going to.
And also, did you watch all the in car camera stuff?
No, I they watched his in car on the pit box.
And when I sit there, like I can watch it.
But but no, the best thing to watch was Brad's.
Brad, I've been road course racing.
Brad, he could be like a cue ball.
He was getting pushed with 48 was on his bumper, too.
But what what the 77 did is he chose he like two different things come off of four.
So that right hander where everybody pops up and goes to the left by the wall and it funnels down.
There's guys are three wide, four wide.
He had clear to the right to take a defensive leverage position, right?
Behind the 24.
So he fills it.
Now Brad's going to fill to his left rear.
Meanwhile, the 11's off his left front.
Now then he decided, OK, there's still some real estate off to the left rear of the 24.
So instead of filling, he now plugs it a hole that wasn't originally intended.
And then there's just too many cars, too little asphalt.
And then he becomes, you know, the the slide.
And so what Tyler called because I watched it all happen.
And I, you know, was on the radio live listening to what Tyler called.
So he came off the corner, started to shade down and Tyler was like,
got to leave room because it was they he shaded down.
And then there was like a line of cars that went further down, filled right.
So he was kind of down and kind of in a bad spot.
And they filled he had a bad angle on the 11 arc the corner way wide and kind of parked it.
So it was it was I would call that a race and deal.
It was a thousand percent a turn.
What is that turn seven?
Yeah, four to seven.
But the fact because he hit somebody every week,
he gets no more banter to the doubt.
Yeah. How about the stuff earlier in the week when Larson was on busing
racing with the boys, caught him eight year old on the switch stream.
That got me a chuckle.
And then there was some banter back and forth.
Dude, nobody takes advantage of people talking about them on the internet.
Like Carson does.
Well, nobody spends more time on the internet than Carson does, too.
So there's there's that part.
22 year old, 23 year old kids and all we all we had to do
was race. I don't think I did name searches and just.
Subtweeted every single person that said something about me either on the internet.
But that's it's a different time.
The defending champion and maybe the greatest racecar driver.
You definitely got to think about the guys he's talking about.
He's talking about Kyle Larson.
Hang on. He's sub tweeted on Scott Zippadelli's Instagram comment the other day.
Yeah, but the pettiness knows no bounce.
And then I tweeted that, too.
I read it was Bob Pocker's thing.
He screenshotted Scott Zipp.
Commenting on a NASCAR post something, something had it come in or whatever.
I don't want to misquote it.
Carson sub tweeted or sub commented that.
And then I commented on the tweet.
I was like, this is like I kind of like this.
Like, you know, the meme of like eating a popcorn.
I didn't put that. I said, the pettiness knows no bounce.
And that takes commitment.
Carson Sunday morning, probably an hour and a half before the race,
liked it within like 30 seconds.
And he wasn't even tagged in it.
So my man's just searching.
He guys married to the game.
Married to the married to the Trollin game.
I got to respect.
Hey, Scott, he's defending champ as well.
Right. Hey, he's got good company.
And he's got some good comebacks.
I mean, the kids love it.
All these act all these little like letters that don't even mean anything
and true English, but the internet understands the language that he speaks.
More on them.
Keep keep trolling.
Yeah, I don't keep rolling.
I don't know. He's fast, right?
And that's what he's eighth in points.
Yeah. And he's fast.
And that's that's what matters.
And hey, we knocked out our old team in the old in season challenge yesterday.
Who? 38 mile team.
Yeah. I said, hey, you guys, you're out of here.
You're out of here.
You're out of there.
Another bracket buster of the 48.
Knocks the 40.
I don't think the 48 can go have a day any given day.
We haven't seen it the last couple of years and it's a little bit inconsistent.
But Alex Bowman running 10th or ninth where like that doesn't surprise me.
Alex is a great race car driver.
He's just courses.
He's done well.
He's a good race car driver.
So there was he was low seed.
Obviously he missed four or five races at the beginning of the year.
That's a tough draw for Tyler Redick.
Yeah, one seed to like, oh, you can't give me Cody where you got to give me
Alex Bowman, Hendrick Carr.
You know, like that's that's what how it all happened.
Right.
The one seed should be technically the lowest seed.
And I believe Bowman, maybe before whenever it was locked in,
was below Cody wearing points down.
Because he had to take the time off and all that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
They he's out.
Only four upsets from what I saw.
Really?
Yeah, it wasn't it wasn't much.
So that that's a really fun thing.
I don't think it's getting as much play as it has gotten in last year.
But I think as we keep going at a.
I love the inner team.
Just shit talking just.
It's like all the social teams.
It's all the social teams in their office, just cooking up some memes
every week.
Ryan Priest, Ryan Priest, the best at it.
That one, that one had me chuckling.
Who does those?
Who does those for who for priests?
Yeah, I probably himself.
He ain't messing around with that.
I mean, me making.
I there's some guy at RFK that's firing those two.
I'm not sure.
I'm pretty sure RFK is RFK's social game is strong.
It is very strong.
They're doing everything well.
SVG, let's go back to it.
Yeah.
So before we get too far off, I wonder how much he's giving
away, because he does the SVG driving school.
It's hard.
He's got, you know, the foot camera, all that stuff.
Like I wonder as these guys get closer, how much he starts dialing back on that.
He's dialing back.
Is he?
I think because the more he shows, gaps, the more it puts
everybody else to work.
And Larsen said in his post-race interview, it was nice to see.
Us closer to him.
Toad is inching closer to him.
Those are fast, bro.
They're fast.
They just make more grip than everybody else.
So yes, there is still more in the SVG tank than we're seeing.
He's holding cards that are in there for when they need it.
That guy is incredible.
So what do you think makes him incredible?
We got a foot cam up here.
This is his normal foot can.
I'm surprised he even lets us see this because he was actually when I
talked to him before our prime broadcast window, he's like, yeah, maybe
sometimes when I get in there and I know I got a foot camera, my feet might get
a little big and I might end up kicking it with my toe on accident.
That's happened a couple of times before.
So the fact.
So now I think TV guys, TNT this week got a little more smart on where they
position it so he can't get his foot in there to kick it.
Because this is IP people.
But also you can also sit there and watch that.
You're not learning how to drive like this guy.
You're not getting feel and watch it all you want, but you don't feel what
you're asked, right?
You got that's what he's off the gas, rolling more speed than everybody.
Yeah.
But you can't just watch his feet and learn it.
It's going to help anything, any race car driver that studies that can sit
there and watch stuff like that.
Nobody's going to learn how to nobody's going to sit there and retrain their
mind on how to rifle a break.
But if you can take that and overlay it like as smart as our guys are
overlay with SMT overlay and watching it.
What's that?
So for the serious SM listeners of the just audio, we're sitting here
watching Shane's footwork.
I put up a tweet a couple of years ago.
I said, I would buy an only fan subscription on Shane's foot camera.
What if you did a barefoot?
Even better.
Awkward.
Um, they probably get a little hot, but, uh, so would I.
So, oh, geez.
Uh, here we are watching.
It's just, it's, it's a masterclass.
And I would say there's 36 guys in the field.
There's one guy using clutch to, to downshift.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And just the, the slip, like we, you've talked about on here and we've gotten
messages from Scott, the fans that are like, you're exactly right.
Like it's the way that it's heating the tires and you can kind of see like a problem.
And I talked about this with, uh, Todd Berry yesterday, who's one of the smart
guys that gives the problem with Shane is he makes you think that you're catching
him and going to beat him.
So you never know how fast he's truly going.
Yeah.
You don't know how much he's got.
What is he's playing?
What's that?
Well, it was that commercial back in the day where I got the dollar.
Oh, you got to be quicker than that.
You got to be quicker than that.
That's what he was doing, like the 19, the 54 behind the hook.
I got a dollar.
Oh, you got to be quicker than that.
Yeah.
That's what he is.
Back to my analogy I said on, on before San Diego, he's like Michael Myers.
You watch a Halloween movie.
The guy's never running, but he's always getting closer to you or he's always
getting further away.
He's never overskies, never sideways.
He's always under control, but he's just going.
He's more comfortable going to the limit under breaking than everybody else is.
So a lot of, a lot of international fans commenting, uh, that Americans don't know
how to real race.
And it's, they don't know real racing, right?
Like road course racing is real racing.
I've seen that time and time again.
So break it down.
What should the NASCAR fans know about VA supercars?
One big thing they race all road courses, right?
All mostly street courses.
The thing about the car that they should know is they run a locked differential.
Yeah.
So they have a spool rear end.
So both wheels are locked together.
All the time.
Always in a NASCAR cup car, the transaxle track.
You don't know how it works.
It just does.
Yeah.
The rear wheels are when they're not under load, they spin freely of each other.
And there's an adjustment that the cup teams use.
And we played with this in the early days of next gen car of pressurizing
the transaxle to make the discs grip more so they don't free wheel free wheel as much.
Yep.
So you can play around with pressure in a gray car.
So you can pressurize the house.
The rear end.
And it is very noticeable when you're driving it.
Yeah.
But that helps with that rear end being unlocked.
It helps the car turn.
Yeah.
The VA supercar guys don't have that.
That's why you see them launching off of curbs because the curb, like when you hit
the curb, it the less unlocks the tires, right?
And makes it turn.
So that's why you see them driving those cars so hard.
And I think that's one thing when the supercar guys get into a cup car.
Is it probably does drive a little better?
Independent rear suspension.
Same thing as a VA supercar.
We're just going to go down the list.
What we got here.
The engine's 54 coyote.
Naturally, I sprayed it.
That's a five.
Oh, I think I'm not much of a motor guy.
But the Chevy's run a 57 LTR V8.
We just got different engine specs here.
That's not a whole.
How many horsepower?
Tell me how many horsepower.
How many horsepower is what are they measuring over there?
What's what's chat?
Tell us how many how many kangaroo power they got over there.
What is it?
Yeah, what's the metric system?
How many kangaroo power?
Let's see how many dingoes that thing got on the 600.
So you talk about 600.
We're going to talk about horsepower to weight ratio.
That's a big equation that we don't talk about enough when it comes to, you know,
sprint cars, they have a thousand horsepower and they weigh a thousand
pounds, almost one to one.
You have a cup car that weighs 3600 pounds or more with a driver, 3700
with 700 horsepower and more tire on the ground.
Those V asked how much in pounds, not kilograms,
what a V8 supercar weighs fired in there.
How many stone?
OK, 30 stone, 30 stone, a cup car.
That's not.
Yeah, 3400 pounds.
A text is small.
Six point two pounds per horsepower.
Formula one car, a thousand horsepower.
We're going to get into Formula one later in the show.
We're going to really break this down.
V8 supercars. What is that?
All right.
29
So 600 pounds difference lighter is the V8 supercar.
So that thing has more horsepower per pound than a cup car.
It's close. It's close.
Now we're at 750, right?
Yes. Less tire.
Less tire.
So they run, I believe, Michelins.
Yeah, they're almost the same.
They're like the same size tire with wise as the rally car,
like what the cup car used to be more or less with the same.
OK, so let's let's blow it all down.
We're rambling a little bit.
Later car, more power to weight ratio,
same sidewall height, narrow traction, narrow tread width
as what the current cup car is now in the tire.
Let's let's grip in the tire.
And you just made the point straight axle.
So these guys are really having to be particular on their braking real.
And you see another thing that makes SVG so good.
You see his in car camera.
They showed it a lot during the O'Reilly race.
They showed it a lot during the cup race as they should.
Always messing with the bias.
They had this lever in the you can't run the lever in the cup car,
but you can run it in the O'Reilly car and you can run in the truck.
It's a lever to valve.
You can shut the rear brake percentage off.
The more you stand it up, the more it chokes off rear percentage.
So at San Diego and the truck, there are certain areas where you get real
light down the hill, a lot of bounce.
You start pulling some rear brakes so you don't get any wheel hop.
SVG was playing with it three times a lap.
Really? So you go into 11 or it's a no. Wow.
So you go into 11.
It's got a lot of compression.
You have a lot of braking potential.
He goes full brake.
Comes off of it up the hill where you start getting a little light.
Start getting a little deloaded.
He starts peeling rear brake out of it.
So that guy is that's just not checkers, buddy, because his mind is working
ahead of where he currently is.
Well, not we're a short track guy, right?
If your car is tight, you put rear brake to it.
If your car is loose, you put front brake to it.
Well, the problem is if your car is losing, you start putting front brake to it.
Then you start locking up the front tires at road courses.
So that is crazy because each corner, you know, some of the like you said,
some of those corners, you're going downhill.
Some you're going uphill.
And it's really float like Sonoma flows a lot.
So your front tires, one gets light here, there.
You're that's why you see guys, I think struggle there and run good at
Walkins Glen, because Walkins Glen is kind of more straight line, stop, turn
and a lot of down to our turn there.
It's like feel it's it's more like dancing.
Yeah, it's feel and him working the brake like that is so impressive.
And that is just another level that guys are going to have to study and figure out.
You got to figure it out.
But it's it's as much being more.
It's so there's so many things that SVG does subconsciously now because he is
so naturally gifted at road courses.
He's able to think where does my bias seem to be?
Meanwhile, for example, the guy running seventh, I don't know who finished seventh.
He's just trying to make pace like like me at a road course.
I'm just trying to hit the corner and then I'll think about it reactively.
Oh, I need a little bit of front brake here.
I need a little bit of rear brake here every now and then.
So these guys are just trying to make the lap time that SVG does.
Meanwhile, SVG is making the lap time instinctively and pacing the tires
and keeping them hot or keeping them cool in the in the rear.
We got some sort of a 10 dramatic lap last lap passes in the last decade.
We've seen some incredible V8 Supercar finishes.
Let's just let's just give V8 Supercars their flowers.
We're watching.
I didn't realize I didn't play this, but I didn't realize that.
I'm at their chase.
They're rolling the tape.
I didn't realize Scotty is a Jamie Winkup in that chrome Vodacup.
That's whatever it is.
It's bad ass.
I didn't realize Scotty has more championships than SVG over there.
Like Scott, Scotty went on a tear in that Dick Johnson team.
Penske car. Yeah.
I would love to look at this.
They these guys are flying at a street course.
Rolling the male.
This is surface paradise, because that's right where that guy chunked it
into the fence.
I met that guy.
I met the photographer.
I told you that they got his leg hit there.
Yeah.
This is this is unique to because they don't run into each other.
This if you guys watch on YouTube and see this video yet, they have run into each other.
They have a little bit more if I a regulations where they'll get posted
after the race, if they hit each other or spin each other out.
I think Shane.
So that might be that when he came here that everybody ran into him.
I think he's starting to like it more.
Oh, he'll run into anybody.
Seems as though he's getting some real disdain for
for our boy Austin Hill as well.
Is he?
I think so.
Is that who he was calling a wobbler yesterday?
No, but at San Diego when Austin.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
He was twice.
He was just over him.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
He was.
Oh, you could tell he was over that guy.
So these things are just fun to watch.
And I wish that it was more readily available here in the States.
Easier to just kind of find.
Consume.
Yeah.
Um, maybe maybe people can start watching our show.
Maybe we can be a little more educated here.
We're this is just unbelievable race and and what what these guys are also
learning besides just pace is racecraft reshaping corners, reshaping, breaking zones.
Well, that was just number 10.
Give me number one.
Give me a number one.
Yeah, I want to see number one.
One of the questions here is SPG a one off or is this the start of a pipeline?
I.
Shane's been the guy over there for a decade.
Or more more like I remember when he was 15 years ago, he was the Joe.
The guy was telling me that he was Joey the guy.
This kid's like the guy.
And I think Scotty.
Oh, they wrecked each other.
I think that's a speed.
I like a Scotty and SVG right there.
Um, I think Scotty's the guy that can come and he could be a NASCAR guy.
But he's found a different path.
I mean, he's in that Penske.
He's in that that Penske Indy car.
That's a great ride.
And Indy cars doing a lot of special things.
But man, think about how hard it was for him to go from supercars to learning
a big heavy stock car to learning downforce.
Right. Like in an Indy car, that's got to be so challenging.
Hmm. Yeah, this this one we're watching here.
This is Scotty and SVG.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The wings on those cars then they're a little much.
They're a little too much.
Yeah, let's let's peel some of that off there.
Lightning McQueen.
That was number 12 of the best doing it out.
So all of that being said, that's a little bit of a crash course on why SVG is the
terror that he is now.
You look at guys, Brody Kostecki, another one.
He he tried his hand in NASCAR probably 10 years ago.
Hell, I was his crew chief for a couple of races in the
Arca series and he had he had this stuff.
He had the tools to be to be a NASCAR winner and didn't really get an opportunity
of it. Move back now as one of the dudes over there and race for the championship
to be a supercars.
So I think great drivers are going to translate no matter the discipline.
But the fact that the Viet Supercars are designed how they have been before the
next gen car even came to came to be it gave those guys a leg up, particularly in
the street courses, particularly on on road courses as well, just to learn those
skills that now the drivers that are used to racing on ovals have to learn.
And they got a long way to go.
Yeah, it'd be fun to see who comes over from there, especially with the Project
91 deal, because, you know, Shane knows those guys.
He knows who's good.
He's not.
Well, Brown, he's a he's another.
He came over.
He was on the show last year, drove for RCR, but he's a Red Bull guy who knows
he might jump in the 91.
I'd be sweet.
It's a gift and a curse.
The charter system, because the guys are kind of locked in where they are.
Yeah.
Um, but I don't know.
Let's give Justin Marks shout out because it was a massive weekend for
Trackhouse, the first MotoGP race for his team.
Awesome.
That's the F1 of motorcycles, man.
It's and I know, you know, Justin's been a friend for a long time.
He is tired, right?
Trying to get that thing going.
Trackhouse hasn't been where they want to be for the last year and a half or so.
So trying to work and burn the candle at both ends.
So I texted him earlier today, I said, man, the work is worth it for weekends like that.
So I hope you're able to cherish it and not just look towards the next one.
Cause winning a MotoGP, winning with, with your partners, finishing both first and
second in the O'Reilly's race with Connor Weathertech, or a Roto Ruda was on his car,
wouldn't it?
Or with the weather tech, weather tech on Connor's car.
Finally got the monkey off his back, finishing the top 10, like we all expect seven.
So glad we, glad we, he finished where we all expect him to.
But yeah, Justin Marks, man, he's, he's doing a lot of cool things in all
cross motor sports and that paid off this weekend.
Great weekend for Trackhouse, both in cup and MotoGP.
Well, hey, we're talking international.
Let's take a quick break here and come back and let's talk some F1.
You had some hot takes on Twitter.
So I'd love to hear your F1.
And it seemed to be a lot of people agreed with me, but F1 kind of stinks.
And I'm going to explain to you that right after the break.
All right, we're back.
I had a, had a tweet, get some traction yesterday.
I've been trying to catch, you know, you watch the Bit of Monica, you watch,
they've changed regulations now to 50, 50 power split, 50 internal combustion,
50% hybrid power, something, right?
And electric motors.
So this week, I'm like, all right, I'm a turn Apple TV on and I'm going to follow
it. Where was the race?
I don't even know.
Okay.
It wasn't Silverstone.
This that's this coming week.
Oh, no, it's Austria.
It's Red Bull.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Um, because I got the big old steel Red Bull under the arch that things that
track is sick.
Yeah.
So I'm watching it and they've got all these metrics, right?
On deploy and passing and your little battery meter that gets drained every
straight away and Mercedes clearly has the upper hand with the development of
whatever MGKU that, you know, power unit that they're doing, which you would
expect that because they're the world leader and just automotive.
It's just, it's like if we all went to K one and decided like, I'm going to use
my juice this lap and then I'm going to clip the next lap and then you're going
to use your juice the next lap and you pass me.
So there might be more passes on paper.
Kind of like when NASCAR went the big spoilers and no power, you know, they,
the, the argument is there was more passing in the Delta between the leader
and the guy in 10th is closer.
Yeah.
Because these things are turds.
So that's the same thing now.
Now you see there's, they don't even show you how many guys.
I haven't done this for the last couple of years.
How many guys are a lap down?
There's eight guys on the lead lap, maybe seven.
And they, they're so far under the tire because they're clipping in certain areas.
I'd say they're clipping power.
The majority of laps to recharge or regen their,
You said there are three seconds of laps slower than last year on average.
And they've had to get the speed back by using what, what there's no DRS anymore,
but they use straight line speed.
It's a button where you get within the straightaways and you hit the button.
That's when you see the Ferrari wing flip upside down.
See the front wings lay down and then you get into the braking zones.
And it, whenever you hit the brake, it flips everything back up.
That's basically DRS.
There's not doing it.
Like they're not doing it when you're trailing somebody to gain a re.
They seem to be in the same situation we found ourself in 10, 15 years ago,
where the same guy was winning.
So they changed everything to try to stop.
Like we did that with Jimmy.
That's where the chase came from.
Right.
Or all the variations and such.
Five straights, five straight.
And then they were like, Hey, we're going to, and then Tony and Carl have an epic battle.
And they're like, we need that.
Yeah, we need to recreate that game seven bottom of the ninth switch to the
the knockout bracket and look, man.
Well, I'll tell you what it is to.
They are, they've lost who they are.
And they're also, you know, on this big carbon neutral kick.
We'll just say what it like they're on this bit.
Well, you don't need to burn Pat.
We need more, more fuel efficient cars.
We're race cars, man.
Yeah, race cars should not get good fuel mileage.
Race cars need to be really loud and really bad on fuel mileage.
Anything else in that like is just pandering to people you don't need to
pander to if I go to the racetrack, I want something where my eyes start to
water when I roll up and listen and watch something roll by me.
Like that's what you need.
Speaking of which, and we'll shift gears from F1, something that'll make
your eyes water when you watch is a nitro funny car.
Maddie Gordon.
Hey, Sprint's of the show.
Dude, the team, their team swept the weekend.
But more importantly, guests and friend of the show, both Ron and Maddie,
both are, but Maddie was here three weeks ago, gets her first career top fuel.
Win lined up against one of the best, Antron Brown, fifth seed, 14th seed and Antron.
Antron got the whole shot, but that car, Lyle Hot Rod powers on the track
to get Maddie's first win.
So congrats to Ron Caps, because he won the he literally won the funny car race.
Ten minutes before that.
Her dad was in the finals in his race.
Did her dad win too?
And the alcohol.
But it was a big family day.
It's just a big day for Maddie.
Like she's been she's a superstar, right?
And yeah, she has all this disfoiling.
She's doing all the things right.
And now it's now she's winning, right?
So it's all coming together.
So excited for her and for Ron.
You know, Ron, when I don't let them start this team, it ain't easy to do.
No, to put your put your nuts on the line and start a team.
It's a this is who I want to drive it.
Well, the the gamble has paid off.
Yeah, that is really cool, man.
And HRA knows who they are.
Right. Yes. They know who they're loud.
They're snotty like the.
Yeah, they're mean. Awesome.
Mean, fun.
It's mean cars.
Having fun.
That's where F1.
They forgot who they were, right?
They got they got so big, so popular.
And then they they have lost it almost like it's almost parallel to what NASCAR did.
NASCAR didn't take we didn't we didn't take the complete everybody.
Yeah, you can't be everything for you.
You got to be yourself.
And it's raised themselves.
NASCAR now it took us a while.
We're ourselves again. Hell yeah. Hell yeah.
Yeah. Right. Hell yeah.
That's I've I've even this is that's just in life, too, whether it's racing or just
like I've been more OK with now in my life, not being for everybody.
I can only be yourself.
You can't and not everybody's going to like a friend of everybody as an enemy to
themselves, right? Like, but look, that doesn't mean to be a prick.
But you can only be yourself.
Some people are going to like it.
There's going to be a lot of people who don't like it.
And that's OK.
As long as you're true to yourself, but like as a sport, we are I see more
momentum in our sport right now than we've ever had.
I do fun stuff and being ourselves.
And yes, listen, is everything perfect?
No. But are we figuring it out a little bit more horsepower, a little bit less
downforce to big ship to turn and we're everybody seems to be pulling the rope
in the same direction. Yeah.
F1 got so big so fast in America.
They've been big everywhere, but in America.
But it seems like their viewerships, like kind of saying 35000
subscriptions lost.
I don't know if that's a big number in the grand scheme of their stuff.
That might just be it's probably marginal in the millions.
But it's not more.
But it's not. But it's not more.
Yeah. But it's it's and it became more of like a fashion culture thing.
Well, then a racing thing at times.
F1 is as much as NASCAR is beholden to the OEMs.
There's only three of them on Sundays, right?
There's 44 with Ryan in the truck series.
But that was the overall global automotive
steer to hybrids and EVs.
They thought that that was the direction we had the green new bill.
We got all this stuff going, getting jammed down our throats and all these
all these auto manufacturers went heavy into EV and they're like,
Oh, no, that's not what our consumers want.
Ford lost what, 2000000000 dollars on their EV program.
So now everybody's steering their course back, which is why I kind of like
Tim Kaniscus even more, man.
He's like, what's the biggest fuel?
What's the least fuel efficient engine we have?
OK, with the Hellcat, let's put in every one of cars we got.
Yeah. And a truck. Yeah. Well, and give me some of that.
Do you think that I F1 is this here?
F1 is something that goes 18,000 RPMs and screams from a mile away.
Yeah. Until it's that again.
I'm good. And I'm not.
When we talk about the EV stuff or the hybrid and selling that,
I'm not going to go by a hybrid car because the Mercedes were faster.
Like I'm going to.
I think I think motorsports has shifted from win on Sunday, sell on Monday
to make content on Sunday and sell it.
That's how you sell it. Yeah. Brand recognition.
I don't think people are going, OK, hey,
SVG wanted a Chevrolet. That's what I'm buying.
But I think they go, hey, look at what Rams built and look at what Chevrolet.
Look at this. Yeah.
And it drives you to go buy the car.
So it's we're just living a different world. Yeah.
And people and I think look credit the Cletus, right?
He's the guy that's came in and now I think he's the one
that has opened NASCAR's eyes like, oh, shit, we can be.
There's big cold car.
We can be what we need to be here and just be ourselves and people will accept it.
Yeah, I think he I honestly feel like he's moved the needle for that.
I agree. And I appreciate that.
And I applaud that needs to work on Green Flag pit stop entries.
That's about it. That's hard.
Everything else. Those things are hard.
Else is good, but he's moving the needle for us.
And here we got a V 10 versus a current V six hybrid engine loading up here.
Let's see what we got.
Yeah, give me all that.
Yeah, give me all of that and more.
Sh.
Just driving. I mean, I'd say that.
No, bro.
Sounds like a.
It sounds like a.
It's nuts.
All the nuts.
But look, man, I understand the world, the world changes and that
that, you know, play that play the V 10.
But if one man they need a day, I want to hear one more time.
The problem is you get so far off base.
That it's hard to get back.
Yeah. Well, you don't know what to get back.
And yeah.
And it's taken NASCAR a long time to get back.
Yeah, give me some.
But like we do, I think as a sport, I think
if Steve O'Donnell was in here today or Mike Helton or Ben Kennedy,
they would tell you that we got off base with our cars, with our engines,
with marketing strategy, everything.
Yeah, schedule takes a while to get back.
But.
Yeah, F ones and they're deep.
They're deep going the wrong way.
And I don't know how they get back, but hopefully they can figure it out.
Well, being a fan of all motorsports and appreciating the guys,
it their profession, getting driving a car on the Razor's Edge
at 200 miles an hour or whatever it is, 380 K.P.
Like K.P. I appreciate that.
I want to see that.
I want to see some guy wrestling a carbon fiber missile.
Spinning the tires.
That's what I want to see.
I don't want to see some guy that's able to super clip more through eight and nine
to recharge his battery.
No, bro.
Get rid of that.
What now?
How about Pit road boats and what you need to go to boats and what's
let's take a quick break and we'll come back to boats and what plenty of woes
stuff to talk about.
We haven't covered boats and woes in a while.
So we got some teams to talk about some things to.
OK, it has been a couple of weeks since we've done pit road boats and woes.
So lots of recap.
Who are the best guys on pit road?
What makes a vacation rental of the year stays?
Guests love and host with the most discover top quality homes
like the vacation rentals of the year using the loved by guests filter.
It highlights top rated vacation rentals with near perfect ratings for
cleanliness, location and all the good stuff.
So no more walking into a surprise.
We've done the heavy lifting so you can get straight to relaxation.
Book your next day with a furbo now.
Road right now.
Man, right now it's and I don't mean to say this because I'm working there,
but the Hendrick cars have been on fire the last couple of weeks.
Five car had the best average of the weekend this week.
There are dogs in the week.
It looks like they've even gotten because road courses were typically
second slower than oval.
Well, road courses, definitely the backward stops, but the 24 was the fastest
last week at San Diego.
They had a great day.
And then this week, the nine cars just right there, too.
Then the five and nine solid all year, but the five car was super fast yesterday.
Yeah, I think everybody's kind of worked on the pitability of the race cars
through the years with really long droops in the back.
The reasons that pit stops have been slower at road courses is a lot of times
you have to jack the car up higher.
You might have to instead of jacking it once, might have to hit it and bump it.
They a lot of times they'll pin the front tires up in the in the wheel wells.
So it's really hard to pull the front tires out.
So there's a lot more intricacies, different cambers that slow the stops down.
But everybody seems to have figured that out with this new car here in our
fifth year of it and the stop times are really fast.
So the five team best average day fast to stop the old hot stop of the week.
And the hot stop 16 team colleague, they have been very surprisingly fast this year.
Is Marshall Jackman on that Marshall's on.
Matt Marshall with SVG.
Oh, that's right.
That's Jordan Page.
He came over from 2311 kind of free in free agency this year.
And he's really turned that team around, man.
They've been really fast.
They've had a lot of pace.
So they had the fastest stop.
Five car has the fastest average shout out to all those boys.
What's the fastest stop?
Fastest stop.
Well, it just depends.
We don't really have a good timing system yet.
Just pick one.
Probably like a eight to.
OK, if you look at the SMT data, it was like an 86
It's usually about a half second off from from what an actual stop time is.
What's the official way if you had the keys?
The official way if I if you asked me how we're going to time pit stop,
it's when the car rocks back.
So the car will stop and when it stops, it rocks back.
You kind of watch the number on the roof from when it rocks back to left side drop.
OK, so you start to you start your watch when the car rocks back.
Yep. And you stop your watch when the jack drops on the left side.
OK, that's it.
That's the number one way to do it.
And there's accelerometers in the car that kind of measure
the when the car stops and when it gets jacked up.
That's usually fairly accurate.
But it's like I said, a half second off, but it's usually fairly accurate
in ranking the field.
If you wanted a time of pit stop, that's the way that we need to be doing it.
OK.
NASCAR needs to get on board with having a standardized system.
So hopefully we get there.
What does NASCAR insights use?
I think they use the SMT data.
And you think accelerometers in the cars.
Yeah, they have like asphalt analytics, which that's a third party
that times them off the cameras that times them that way.
So it's usually a little bit faster.
So well, the only the only thing that I've seen is racing inside stuff.
Yeah, I'm sure you see that too.
I don't I don't look at that stuff as much.
You don't. Well, if the fans care about it, let's just go ahead and rifle off.
And you you could argue this.
The best now, I don't even know what the collective is.
I'm sure it's year average or something.
Kyle Arson's best team.
No, Chase Elliott, nine team, best team on Pit Road.
Their first second team on Pit Road.
202222
Based on what is your top five here?
He's been strong.
Let's do the top five and bottom three.
OK, we'll dox these guys.
Third best five car, fourth best, the 11.
Fifth best on racing insights, the 20 car.
Yeah.
That those are five great pickers, by the way.
36
51 car, which those guys are probably that's a Pansky development team.
Those guys are probably just throwing wedge wrenches in it
and trying to make some adjustments on that thing every week.
Thirty.
The twelve cars deep, bro.
Well, they've had some really long stops that get counted against them.
Yes, the four cars deep.
Yeah, so I mean, that's you say all the time, too.
It's like if you're coming down second time by, let's get tires on.
Oh, there and there's look, do you have a couple?
You have a couple where you have to rejack or stop
and somebody else's pit stall or 25 seconds stop.
It bears you. You're done.
Yeah, you can't make it back.
Yeah, it's not about a lot of it's not about doing the fastest stuff.
It's about like the nine car.
Can't do that.
I'm car spassed, right?
But they don't their slow stops are nine fives, right?
Where other guys slow stops are twelve fives.
Yeah.
So they just they're all veterans.
They stack them really tight and then they could still go in the 83 range,
which eight threes really fast.
So the nine team, I'd say the nine did the 20 car.
They had a little bit of a hiccup this shout out to him.
He run top five with a broken arm, broken wrist, just a gritty day.
They they have they had a rejack
where I don't know if left front might have not been tight, but they caught it
before it went back out on the track.
And that that was a little bit of a woe this weekend.
The 20 car bar none started the year hotter than anybody has started it.
But you see, man, it's hard to keep.
You almost get like a little bit of a speed hangover.
So they're having a little bit of issues inevitably,
no matter how good you start, we see with the 45 on track.
We see the 20 in the pit stall.
You're going to you're going to hit bumps in the road.
That's why it's best to just stay even at a high level.
Well, you also got to make sure your your your floor isn't
a 25 second stop.
You got to make it to where your floor is at eleven seconds or or better.
Yeah.
What I like to do, the thing that I've always like to do is count how many
single digit stops. So 999 and under you can string together in a row.
Yeah. Like when we focused on the 12 car from going
from a contender to being a championship team, like that's how you win championships.
Stacking them is like keep it.
Keep your guy in the race, give him the chance.
And if you do a nine, if you do a nine second stop, you might lose one or two.
You could the thing about Pit Road, you can come in and do a nine flat
and gain three, you come into a nine flat and lose three.
Yeah, it just depends on who hits it and in rolling time and pit stall selection.
But if you do a nine second stop, you have kept your guy in the race.
So how many of those can you stack in a row?
Because when you start getting in the tens, 1112 that's when you lose
dump track position and take yourself out of it.
We saw the 88.
One thing on Green Flag stops, the 88 did have a good day,
but I think he stalled it on his last Green Flag stop.
Yeah. Because he was like right there, second third, right there.
He started, yeah.
Came out like seventh, eighth and put him put him behind dirty air, getting a bad spot.
I think the 12 car also had a little bit of a hiccup on their Green Flag stop,
where it kind of set them back because he was right there in the top four.
So those are the small things.
I mean, the 88 comes in on the 19th bumper and left three cars behind them.
Yeah.
Those are the things that, you know, Conner's going to clean up.
It's rookie year.
It's been absolutely atrocious for him, but it's cool to see a little bit of light
at the end of the tunnel here, showing what his potential is, what we've all known.
Get the 88 car up there where it needs to be.
Where we go?
Chicago land this week, so he's going to be better in the metric, not going out first,
second to qualify.
That'll be that'll be good startup, you know, in the mix a little bit more.
Yeah. So that's a big deal.
Chicago this weekend speaking of pit stops, it's going to be a pit stop competition.
Buddy, I can't.
I haven't been more excited for a race in a long time.
It's going to be sick.
I know. Yeah.
That tricks always.
Always been hot in hell in July.
Whenever we go there, too.
So I'm so fired up.
It the back stretches is one big soft like corner.
It nothing straight there.
The whole thing's almost a circle.
It's got a big dog looking straight away, but the back is a soft bend as well.
It's going to be slap or out.
We haven't been there in seven years.
So she's been baking.
She's been baking in that Illinois son.
Yeah. And then it gets the winners, too.
That's the ones that get a shout out to our buddy, Bozie,
friend of the show winner of the six hour of Watkins Glen.
And actually it's more of a destruction derby.
Dude, did you see that Lamborghini crash?
That was Brandon Godovic.
That was?
Yeah.
Geez.
Yeah.
That guy cut him no brakes, right?
They kind of funneled top of the S's at left hander where it already gets light.
That guy tucked it in and took all the air off the spoiler.
He got lucky he didn't get squared.
He got hit like in the left front tire almost from the door.
I don't know.
Hope he's all right.
Really?
I don't want to reach out.
That's where Bob O'Wallis is crew chief.
Charles Denike started his NASCAR career at Brandon Godovic's.
Yeah.
Yeah, Brandon Godot, you raced for them.
I did.
You won.
Did you win?
No, we had the sway bar and fall off.
But we were in the hunt there.
That was a fun one.
Charles actually crew chief that.
So it's cool to think back all the different people I've worked with along the way.
But yeah, hopefully Brandon's doing OK.
Hopefully he can rest up well.
He's not doing well.
We're getting a little bit of a shake.
Broke his leg in pelvis.
Yikes.
Breaking news.
Break broken pelvis.
I broke.
I fell asleep driving when I was 16 and went off.
Hit a driveway culvert.
Hit a tree.
Broke my pelvis.
That was the most intense pain I've ever felt.
Hopefully I don't feel that again.
I had to crawl around the house for like a month because you just can't walk.
So that sucks for Brandon.
Our thoughts and prayers with you, buddy.
Rest up.
That was a gnarly, gnarly crash.
And all things considered, it could have been worse.
You probably don't want to hear that right now because your legs broke.
Pelvis is broke.
But get well quick, quick, buddy.
Shout out to him.
His dad, his dad, Rick Kadovics, an awesome dude as well.
Yeah, great guys.
That's cool to race in lambos.
What about did you see the right here is the wreck?
Yes.
See right there that swipe right there.
That guy wrecked him.
And then you're going it's anything off.
Drivers left right there.
Oh my.
Right in the right in the door box.
He's lucky.
Anything also drivers left top of the hill.
There is blind.
You can't see that because that wall kind of goes back out.
And I wonder what their spotter situation with these is too.
I'm not sure.
Not a very good one.
I mean, you're not missing that.
No, you have.
Because you also can't crash spot before you're not missing that.
Where was he at this week?
Why was he not there?
I think he's got a couple things getting figured out.
Dang, man.
Hopefully everybody's OK from that.
Did you see the Corvette wreck?
You got that wreck up?
Who was it?
What happened there?
Off of the carousel.
They run the boot.
I think it was they were kind of merging back.
Guy hooks them.
We're going to run it right here.
Not hardly.
Oh, this is the aftermath.
Yeah, here we go.
It's never good when the clip starts with the wrecker.
Corvettes on drivers left.
So we don't run this.
No.
Just chunk them.
The bummer about Walk is Glenn.
That's a wall.
The wall at Walk is Glenn is that it's like guardrail.
Yeah.
When you hit it, it spits you back.
I remember the Michael McDowell.
I was changing tires on the Michael McDowell car
when it ripped the rear end out.
There was no more tires left.
Oh, there was none left to change.
But yeah, the rear end left the chat, dude.
This is complete curveball.
So Sheldon Creed knew that guy that jumped the fence.
I saw a tweet about that, but I didn't know.
That's great.
Hey, man.
How's it going?
Sheldon, long time to see.
Yeah, stay off the racetrack, man.
I don't want to barely out of jail.
I'll get a beer with you at the iBar after the race.
I'd love to figure out what happened to that guy.
Do we know what Charlie's got pressed on?
It's a felony.
Yeah.
I used to go in a prison for getting over there
and talking to Sheldon Creed.
I think you'd certainly spend the night in the cling.
Yeah, maybe a night.
It might be worth that.
You have to clip your kids.
Yeah, you tell that to your drunk kids.
That's what happened when I got drunk.
Don't do that.
Any other woes?
Do you want to go on the racetrack?
It was funny.
Just don't do that.
Don't be that guy.
Or maybe wait five to 10 years and don't do it on a military
base.
Yeah, it's all those things.
So how much did that cost him?
About $15,000.
We'll get the scoop.
We'll just ask.
I'll ask Sheldon.
He comes to the shop here often.
I'll just ask what happened to his buddy.
What else we got here?
That's it for boats and woes, man.
Penny Stackers?
Got any Penny Stackers out in Sonoma?
Oh, man.
We had a lot of Penny Stackers to do a dash in appearance.
Mike from out there.
I met him in the fan zone.
He actually said that his grandfather helped
build Wall Stadium.
One of his bucket list items was to go to the Turkey Derby.
There you go.
I said, don't go to the Turkey Derby.
Go in the summer.
Pick the John Blue Memorial or one of those races.
There is nothing colder.
This cold and well-diggers ass up there for the Turkey Derby
World.
Oh, my god.
It is cold Derby.
You got it.
I listen.
I love it.
And it's like a wet cold because it's right off the ocean.
Oh, it's cold.
I love the Turkey Derby.
But I adore going up there in the summer and racing on Saturday
nights, getting to hang out at the beach on Sunday morning.
That is the best.
And I hope I get to do that here coming up.
So we did a cool event at this new gas station dash in.
It's a new convenience store brand that's
popping up in the Southeast.
They have 60 locations across Maryland and Virginia.
And this is their first North Carolina spot right off exit
60, eight minutes from my house.
So they got connected to us.
And they want to do some sort of like a grand opening stack
and pennies come by, show everybody what
Dashtian's all about.
I'll tell you something.
I'm not just telling this because they paid me to say it.
The food was damn good.
The burger, solid.
Really?
I had probably 3,500 calories worth of food when I was there
because I was trying everything.
It's a legit griddle.
Breakfast burritos.
They have a bakery in there.
I guess it's legit.
We need to go try it out sometimes.
So my penny stackers of the week, we had it downpour
an hour before the event.
And there were still probably 75, 80 people showed up.
I was like, eh, pretty good turnout.
Because I didn't know.
I thought I was going to be outside.
He looked like a Salvation Army guy with a bell.
That's what I anticipated.
But it was not that.
Next time we plan one of those, we
went, I'm not in California.
Sorry to make it.
You know something funny that happened yesterday?
I was walking in with Blaney into the garage.
And someone was like, Ryan, Ryan, skip, skip.
Went by Blaney like, I love the podcast.
I was like, look, a cup drive champ right here.
No, celebrity.
Yeah, it was funny.
I was like, yeah.
Those make you feel good.
Yeah, no, it's good, man.
All the penny stackers out there every week, especially
on the West Coast, man.
A lot of guys coming up had people at Disneyland.
Love the podcast, bro.
Oh, yeah.
I saw a lot of NASCAR folk at Disneyland.
I saw Carson Quaffle there.
He was like, I hated it.
I hate crowds.
I hate people.
I hate walking.
Yeah, wait till you bring with kids, man.
Yeah.
Well, cool.
Let's take a break.
Then we'll come back and land this bird.
What do you say?
Yeah, let's do it.
All right, we're going to do a moment of the week voted on
by you guys in the comments below.
So we have a couple big ones.
What's your favorite?
SVG holding off the late pressure from Chase Briscoe at Sonoma.
It was exciting to watch.
Kept him honest, because I didn't think he could be beat.
And he wasn't.
But the nights he put up a fight.
Option B, Maddie Gordon's first top fuel win.
That would be my vote.
Option C, Bozy's Lexus Watkins won six hour victory.
What else we got?
That's only three.
That's it.
What would be your pick?
Dude, Maddie Gordon.
Yeah, fire me up for that.
Maddie Gordon getting that first top fuel win.
But it's up to you guys.
So pumped.
It's up to you guys.
Actually, it's more of an SVG sleep on the weekend, which
also let's give him some credit.
That's solid.
Well, you're going to tell us below in the comments.
Appreciate you guys.
Before we had AT&T business wireless coverage,
our delivery GPS wasn't the most reliable.
Once our driver had to do a 14 point turn to get back on route,
a 14 point turn and influence a even live stream the whole thing.
Not good for business.
Now with AT&T business wireless, routes
are updating on the fly and deliveries are on time.
And the influencer did get us 53 new followers though.
AT&T business wireless.
Connecting changes everything.
All right, we're back, guys.
YouTube specific.
So the audio listeners, whether you're on Serious XM
or straight audio, they don't get to see these things
because these are meme reactions or some big, big crashes.
I don't know what you have keyed up here first.
If it's the pikes peak one, bro, this is the, oh,
give me that one first.
It looks fake.
Pikes peaks to hill climb.
They have all these sorts of one off vehicles
that they had a bunch down for us.
They've got the ground effects.
And they go up this public road to the top.
And it's been something for 50 years.
And there's no walls.
And there's all balls.
And there's just nothing but craziness.
And this guy must have forgot that there was a 180 corner
because he launched it.
It looks AI.
I thought that this was AI.
Oh, boy.
I thought it was a video game, dude.
Well, I was.
He's got Gran Turismo on the windshield.
So it still might be.
No, no, that's real life crash, dude.
So there's what these are called the Evo corner,
which is where Kim Block kind of drifted off the side there.
Oh, he's wearing a minus 273 fire suit.
Shout out PJ.
Oh, that's good.
PJ Minn Roshiti.
If you are in the weeds like we are with racing
and you look and listen to what those guys go through with the time
of day, the air, the dew points and the moisture.
And then as you get up the mountain, how the air
comes out and you need oxygen.
I read it in Everham's book and kind of have listened
to different things watching the Jim Conifiles where they went up
there and did that.
Their cars just react different up there.
The throttle response isn't once you get higher.
Yeah, it just lean.
It leans out.
There is a lot of opportunity for a mistake.
Is this where's this one?
Is this Pike's Peak as well?
Yeah, this guy about went off the side of the mountain.
You don't want to do it in an open cockpit.
That's for sure.
I mean, it's got a halo on it.
That sucker wouldn't have done too much.
It's 5050 ground and somehow somehow didn't go over the.
That's a good brown.
Yeah, that's good.
There's no underwear after that.
All right, here we go.
We got something at Spa.
Well, it's raining.
Oh, that's going to be a big tires.
No way.
Didn't hit nothing.
Wow.
That the mechanics.
Yeah, just right here.
They cancel their dinner plans.
Yeah.
And then they go, hey, hold on.
Yeah, we're getting beers right now.
We can still make it.
That's what I was walking with Rudy this weekend on pit road.
And when the 23 wrecked in qualifying.
And I was like, I hope that road crew didn't have any plans.
He's like, dude, that's the worst.
Yeah, you're not going to the.
You're like qualifying.
You have your dinner plans.
You're out West and then you're you're watching the big screen
and oh, oh, oh, lock it down.
Lock it down.
Yeah.
Yeah, go on.
Go get the go get the tools out.
Yeah, go on here late.
Go on.
Rezzy and just cancel that dinner reservation.
No more winery for you.
What do we got here?
56 is missing a wheel here.
No left front tire.
I'm assuming that's the Teflon smoking of the splitter.
Yes.
Going out going around there.
The tire changer, the wheels gone.
So either the lug nut was loose or something broke.
And then the tire changer coming over with the gun.
Yeah, like, oh, no, there's them.
Come hit the lug nut.
No, there's not one.
I'm going to go back here and change this.
I've done that before where you car comes in here like, oh, no,
it's gone.
Spa, Frank, a shamp.
Same race.
This is a 20 car that that here's a whoa in the cup race.
This is one we talked about in boats and was earlier,
but a little bit of a tough exchange.
The left front's weird there because the camber's
going the other way.
So sometimes it can get a little crunchy,
whether your muscle memory wants to always kind of scoop
your bottom hand to get the tire on.
And there.
Hey, that tire carrier was not letting it go, bro.
He was about to jump on the windshield.
Who is that?
You know?
Yeah, he's like, nah, nah, nah, bro.
Man, I forget his name, but he's a stud.
He also jacks a O'Reilly car.
I'd have to have his name in front of me.
Blake Houston, the front changer of that is awesome, too.
And he's one of the guys where if that thing's leaving
and it's not tight, he's going with it.
You could see him kind of going with it.
Oh, he was committed.
But that's a race.
That shows the strength of your team.
That's a race.
We're coming back in.
Well, that's not only a race.
He were race.
It saves both your guys from being suspended for two weeks.
So if it's going to be bad, at least make sure that you
contain the blast to get all the wheels on.
That's right.
Any more clips?
That's all we got.
Yeah, yeah, we care.
We haven't talked about FIFA.
Chase, you were a semi pro soccer player.
Did you?
For who?
So Community College?
Oh, Southern California.
D1.
All right.
USA versus Paraguay.
Do we care about the World Cup?
Hell, yes.
Of course we do.
Just because it's here on our home turf, I'm going to be.
I'm not much of a soccer fan.
Now, didn't they, they lost.
Not to Paraguay.
We won.
Like we come out of the gate.
Hot.
We lost to Turkey.
As they say it, Turkey.
Turkey.
Turkey.
They lost in like the extra time.
But we moved on to the knockout rounds.
It was like a game that didn't really matter for us.
They all matter.
1,000%.
But I think that we did play our scrubs.
We had won the week before when we were locked in around 8.
It's basically what happened in NASCAR terms.
Yeah.
So we played, yeah, I think we played a lot of our second
string cats.
Now, wouldn't you watch these guys play with their starters
and they're playing?
They are fast, man.
I don't know nothing about nothing
when it comes to soccer.
But I like this team.
They fire me up.
I don't know where this has come from,
because we've never really watched soccer,
but my kids will ask me.
That's a cool shot from the.
Who's the goat?
Messi or Ronaldo?
Yeah, it's Messi.
And I say it's Messi.
And they're like, well, why?
And I said, because he plays in Miami.
It's not because of that.
That's why.
I don't know anything else about him.
He's also got more goals in World Cup.
He also has the worst statue that's ever been made.
That was a tough.
No, I don't know.
They both have pretty bad ones.
That Christian Pulitsic goal where he kicked it opposite foot
and hooked it around was nasty.
Dude, this is it's so fun.
A lot.
Oh, yeah, there it is.
Yes.
Buddy.
Yes.
Where's that at?
Where this is the.
Is it in Argentina, I presume?
Yeah, we don't have a New York Times accounts.
We can't see it.
Yes.
Yeah, Messi.
Everybody's seen it.
Tough.
Tough look.
But I.
The view from the back is real.
The best part of the World Cup.
Awesome.
The soccer's great.
Football, everything.
The best part of the World Cup.
Somebody going.
Yeah.
The best part of the World Cup is the Instagram videos
that are coming out like TikTok of the people coming
to America for the first time.
And they're like, I love ranch.
I love ranch.
And we went to Buckeys.
It's hilarious.
That is my.
Carissa and I send them to each other all day long.
It's the best thing that's come out of it.
And I'm excited for this knockout round, man.
There's nothing like going to a bar when the USA is playing.
I'm going to.
Oh, dude, was it me and you?
We went to Jack's, Forever Goes, the Female World Cup.
And USA wasn't supposed.
We weren't even watching the game.
And then they scored like three off the rip.
And I'm on the table.
They're like, you know that video where it's like.
Look at this.
Them eating ribs.
Dude, that is a beef rib, too.
Oh, it's.
Where is that?
Oh, that.
That is a.
If that's it, Terry Blacks, bro.
There is.
No, it's not Terry Blacks.
But the Terry Blacks beef rib will knock your socks off.
Yeah.
Yeah, I'm glad.
I'm glad the world's coming to see our culture.
Because I can only imagine what sort of propaganda
they see about the United States about us.
But most of us correct.
But it's all it's all.
Yeah, most of us correct.
The Mexico game was in Mexico City.
Yeah.
Like how electric would that have been?
Oh, I'd be so sick.
Correct, dude.
So yeah, a lot of fun.
We'll see who.
I don't know anything about it, which ignorance is kind of bliss.
But I'll tell you this.
France is like the SVG.
The France is.
Yeah.
It's a lot like the hockey deal.
Like if the USA makes it pretty far,
the USA Canada hockey game this year
was the most electric sports event.
I can remember it a long time.
I watch it on my couch.
So if the USA starts advancing, I'm going to the bar.
And I'm going to get one of those little scarfs that people
wear that look like Ted Lasso up in something.
What are those things that they blow?
I don't know.
The Oozela.
OK, yeah.
Oh, I'd start blowing an Oozela, too.
All right, let's land this bird.
We've got things to do.
I'm going to go out to, I find myself deep into it now
with this legends car, my buddy, Everett Larson.
We've had this legends car collect in dust for the last year,
too.
And I was like, I'm going to put my little buddy Everett Larson
this thing.
We're putting new stuff on.
We've got breaks.
Like I'm back spinning wedge nuts on this thing,
trying to get it going.
You don't have to.
I don't have to.
You got to jump all the way.
Yeah, I can't.
I can't go out there with my kids
and like I got to get my man running.
So he's been showing me some potential.
He's been showing that he wants to do it and prepare.
So I'm going to show him some effort in return.
So that's been fun going out to summer shootout,
reliving some childhood memories.
So you guys can go check us out there.
This guy's coming back by here.
Somebody's on a bad day.
Where are we going?
Chicago land.
Let's do a quick prediction.
Who do you got?
Oh, man, I am going Larson to break this street.
He's got to.
He's got to.
Like Dale said, it's going to be hard to beat that five car.
Don't go there.
He's sliding around.
That car can't be in the top five and be turned about.
So I think five is a great one.
I think it's another good opportunity.
This is the last winner.
Chicago land seven years ago, Alex Bumman.
Really?
He used to have a good one.
So that would be cool to see.
Toleretic.
I mean, it's going to be probably a toadah,
because they just go faster than other cars.
I didn't even hear an X-gen here at all.
I haven't.
Wow.
No, but I'm excited just for the sport overall
to go back there.
It's a great mile and a half weathered to perfection.
What else we got?
Follow along social media at underscore stag and pennies
at Coral of the Joy, at Ryan Skip Flores, or whatever it is.
Skip Flores, yeah.
Just whatever.
Yeah, yeah, just whatever it is.
You know where to go find them.
I hope you enjoyed the V8 Supercar stuff.
We're going to keep educating ourselves on that
so we can keep bringing you guys the knowledge.
Each and every week on that's an awesome series.
That's all we got.
No more ass kickings by SVG for the foreseeable future.
That makes me feel good.
Oh, you know where I went this weekend?
Where'd you go?
I went to Target.
Yeah.
And when I pulled into Target there in Petaluma,
there was a street stocks in there.
There was a frickin' racetrack, Petaluma Speedway,
in the Target parking lot.
Really?
I was fired up.
And it was packed.
I was like, look at this.
That's awesome.
Saturday Night Short Track Race,
right here in Target parking lot.
So I forgot to talk about that.
Go to your local short track.
Yeah, mixed use facility.
Go see your local races.
If you're in New Jersey, go see my local track,
Call Stadium, and more importantly,
have a damn good 4th of July.
Speaking of short tracks, Caden Honeycutt wins again
in a late model stock, the South Boston 200.
That was a big win.
There was a lot of, they started 43 cars.
They wrecked about 15 of them the first lap.
With South Boston, there's nowhere to go if they start wrecking.
Yeah, I mean, it's fast.
You just go to the scene of the accident.
So Caden Honeycutt's been on a heater in that late model.
So after my car, it's Reynolds building those cars.
Good for them guys.
A lot of fun stuff.
What's your, when's the next Ram?
Lime Rock Park.
Lime Rock.
Not this coming weekend, following week.
My next race is hopefully Wall Stadium July 18th
for the Hall of Fame 100.
So that's hopefully my next one.
We'll see how much longer my cup tenure needs to last
on the old 77 car.
But that's my plan.
Okay.
That's it.
Thank you guys for listening.
Thank you guys.
We appreciate your time.
Same place.
Same time next week.
Stacking pennies each and every day to get you ultimately
where you want to go in life.
So I appreciate you for the ride and your time.
Quarter of the joy here alongside Ryan Flores.
Have a fantastic day.
Goodbye.
About this episode
Corey LaJoie and Ryan Flores break down the action-packed weekend at Sonoma, highlighting Shane van Gisbergen's continued road course dominance and what makes V8 Supercars drivers so uniquely skilled. The duo debates Ty Gibbs' stage-points strategy, dissects the chaotic on-track incident involving Denny Hamlin and Carson Hocevar, and laughs over Hocevar's relentless social media trolling. From Ryan's wild Pacific Coast Highway road trip to the latest bracket-buster updates in the NASCAR in-season challenge, this conversation offers an entertaining, driver's-eye view of the garage's biggest storylines.
This week on Stacking Pennies, Skip is back from California and the boys are talking about the racing that actually feels alive right now.
SVG wins again at Sonoma, which sends Corey and Skip into a full V8 Supercars breakdown: why Shane van Gisbergen looks so different, what NASCAR can learn from Supercars, and whether more drivers from Australia and New Zealand could be coming next.
Then the guys get into why F1 feels stale, why NHRA knows exactly who it is, Maddi Gordon’s first Top Fuel win, Bozi’s Lexus team getting IMSA flowers, road course pit stops, Pikes Peak chaos, and World Cup fans discovering America.
