This is a specific version of the Honda Civic from 1999. The “DX” and “two-door hatchback” describe the exact trim and body style, so it’s not just any Civic.
Planned obsolescence is when something is designed so it won’t last as long as it should. The concern is that it encourages you to buy a replacement sooner.
The valve body is like the transmission’s control panel. It directs transmission fluid to make the car shift gears, so if it’s faulty, shifting can feel rough or act weird.
This is a Jeep Wrangler from 1997, specifically the TJ generation. They’re talking about bringing a neglected off-road Jeep back so it runs and you can drive it again.
A junkyard is a place where old cars are kept for parts or recycling. If you find a car there, it may need a lot of work before it’s safe to drive again.
A shifter is what you grab to change gears. An “eight ball” style is a custom-looking shifter knob that also changes how the shifter feels in your hand.
A clutch is the component that lets a manual-transmission car smoothly connect and disconnect the engine from the gearbox. Replacing the clutch is a major repair because it directly affects whether the vehicle can shift properly and drive without slipping or grinding.
“Roadworthy” means the car is in a safe, drivable condition for regular roads. It’s more than just running—it should be working properly in the important safety areas.
Transmission service is maintenance for the car’s shifting system. It usually involves changing the fluid so the transmission stays lubricated and shifts correctly.
An automatic transmission is the part of the car that shifts gears by itself. Even though it’s “automatic,” it still needs occasional maintenance so it keeps working reliably.
The “maintenance-free” claim means the car system supposedly never needs servicing. The point being made here is that transmissions still wear out and fluids still break down, so ignoring service can be expensive.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a tough SUV that’s meant for rougher jobs than a typical commuter car. Here, the host is saying that careful, regular checkups help it last a long time.
This is the idea that small problems are cheaper to fix than big ones. If you ignore early warning signs, they can turn into a much more expensive repair later.
LIVE
Good morning Niagara, you're tuned into car connection where the coffee is hot, the tools
are ready and the talk is always tuned up.
I'm your host Nile Motormouth Jenkins coming to you, straight from the car connection workshop,
where we mix a little humor, a little know-how and a whole lot of horsepower.
Here it's not just about fixing cars, it's about keeping you rolling and saving you money,
giving you the confidence to understand what's under that hood.
From the classics, to the commuters, the weird noises and those what the heck moments,
we've got you covered.
So grab your coffee, sit back, join the crew, because this is Car Connection,
your Monday through Saturday morning pit stop for story smarts, a few good laughs,
and I'm your host of the morning drive.
Motormouth, Nile Jenkins here this morning welcoming you into the car connection workshop,
so if you're just zippity doing through the drive through, double check your order,
we're getting close to the weekend, you know, the brain's shut off, that can happen.
It happens a lot.
So it's, my advice to you is to check in with your order and double check it,
flip, double check it and then lock it down in your cup holder, we're going to have a
swiggy together in just a moment, so if you're joining us for the very first time,
we enjoy a little swiggy together, it's kind of like being on the road at the same time,
and just enjoying our time, our short time here on a Thursday morning, yes, we made it to Thursday,
which means tomorrow is what? Fun Friday, fun Friday, so come and join us for that,
where conversation is just off the wall, that's all I can tell you, it's kind of what whatever
molecule explodes in my head, that's what I'll talk about, so by noon tomorrow, do you think?
You can get your questions in, fire off your questions to motormouth.jankins at gmail.com,
it'll get there, or Nile at ccbusnet.com, whichever one you can remember, if you can't,
I put them in the description boxes of our YouTube channel and also the podcast,
that's right, so you can find the email address pretty much anywhere, you should be able to
remember motormouth.jankins at gmail.com, so welcome to the car connection workshop,
if it's your very first time, we've been waiting for you, we have saved a seat just so you know,
we were expecting you to stop by at some point, everything we talk about
lives at our website, it's the biggest drawer we have in our toolbox, it's next to the hammer
drawer, just so you know, put all your heavy stuff in the bottom, I can tell you a story about that
toolbox coming over on top of me, that was, it was not good, I didn't get too badly injured,
but it wasn't good, it was not a good day, that started out with a crash boom bang,
so anyways, everything on our homepage, we are continuing to build our car connection business
network back after you know, four years of what the heck moments, if you want to say that,
what the heck moments, that cost us a fortune, in time, effort, energy, and everything we had spent
26 and a half years building at that point, gone, yeah brilliant, that's all I can say,
we'll leave that, we'll pull the handbrake on, leave that right where it should be, brilliant,
hope you made a lot of cash, probably, most likely, heard a lot of people, that is for sure,
well let's move on before we digress, so on the homepage of our website carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com
you will see all the referral businesses that we have collected back after that moment in time,
and our program partners are there, so not all of them can be program partners, otherwise
the program would sound like the shopping channel, and I don't want to do that, yeah not at all,
so connect with our referral businesses simply and our program partners by clicking on the link
further logo, so just click the box, open it, it'll take you to a profile page, and all the pages
are designed exactly the same, everything in the same position, so it's easy navigation for you,
in the top right hand corner of our homepage you'll find all the platforms that Skippy and I are
involved in, and that will take you to our YouTube channel, we are down to 91%, 91% of you are
enjoying the videos, and I'm grateful truly grateful and thankful for that as well as Skippy,
but we need you to pony up, that's right cowboy, pony up and subscribe because that's what moves
us forward with the algorithms, then they you know we're petting the hair in the right direction with
them, and they'll push us further out to more audiences so we can reach more and more people,
but the most part is we need to get monetized so we can buy parts, parts for people
that are struggling right now and provide the labor and get the videos in return and share that
knowledge with you on our YouTube channel, so would you help us out, like, subscribe, follow,
share, ring the bell so you don't miss the next rescue project and maintenance tips and real world
car ownership advice, that's what you'll see, so you're only going, you're not going to see me
building monster trucks or hot rods or anything, I've done years of that, what we need more of,
according to the widows single moms and single gals out there is teach us the basics, motormouth,
teach us the basics, so that's what I'm doing, we have a new series coming up just so that you know,
on our YouTube channel, we're bringing out of the collection a vehicle I purchased for somebody
many years ago, it's a California car and some of my clients in the US, they grabbed, I don't know
anything, they just called me and said, I told them what I was looking for and what it had to be
and I got a phone call, motormouth, you got to be here tomorrow morning, got it,
yeah, and bring snacks, okay, I'm on it and so you'll have to wait and see what it was that I
picked up and my pops went with me and we brought it back to Canada, Canada, yes, I can't spell
Canada apparently, my fingers always type it, can you figure that one out, let me know in the,
in an email, would you, yeah, what's your favorite automobile, somebody speak to me, yeah, talk to me,
let me know what's going on and yeah, Podbean, no one has come up with a car that you could
confidently call Podbean, okay, so let's work on that, questions by noon tomorrow, so again,
our YouTube channel is up in the right hand corner and we have well over 400 pieces for you
to enjoy and the new series will be kicking off next week, so the Toyot FJ series and all the
upgrades and the spring evaluation, that's all I'm getting taken care of, I got to work my buns off
today to wrap that up and get it out of the shop and get a bumper painted for the rocket and bring
that back to life, it did its first car show last year, 1999 Honda Civic DX, two door hatchback,
five speed air conditioning and I bought it for my long time listener, Gillian, so if Gillian's
listening this morning, the rocket is doing fine, mama, everything's okay, just doing fine, just
getting a little, you know, cosmetic surgery taken care of, I did all the interior last year
and it showed really well at its first car show, which was cool, the kids were all over it, the
young kids are like, whoa, mister, do you know what that is? A car? Oh, they were pretty excited,
are you selling it? No, and don't look it and say it's yours, get away from it, don't do that,
that's naughty, Facebook, Instagram, Reels, outtakes bloopers, that's where you'll find all that stuff,
Skippy does things with the camera when I'm not looking and then puts them up there so you can
have a good laugh on me and that's okay, I know you're not laughing at me, you're laughing with me,
which makes a difference, we are the expert on Stevensville on the web.ca, so we put articles
up there, we're tied in with the community, I'm going to be in Stevensville on the 6th of June,
we'll kick off our summer fundraising events that we'll be tying in with in the local community,
Orange Crush is going to be there, maybe, I'm not sure, I'm undecided yet, it might be Moe,
I'm not sure yet, because I'm writing solo on that program, so I may need Moe to pull it off,
I'm in the dunk tank fundraising, taunting everyone to get me in the water, but actually
what I want is for them to miss the plunger, and then you watch for the little kid that
circles the wagon and just hits it with his hands and puts you in the freezing cold water,
so I'm going to be downtown Stevensville at Springfest on Saturday,
June the 6th, so come and join us, you won't be able to miss me, I'll be the giant goose pimple
working the dunk tank, and I'm sure the firefighters will not allow that tank
to go warmer than 34 degrees, I'm pretty sure about that, so come and visit us there,
as the dates start rolling in now, let you know where we're going to be on site,
so that you can come and visit, get an autograph, maybe get a little goodie or two by stopping by,
and yeah, let's jump in, so thank you to all those who are supporting our online community,
be part of our online community, and then, and join us there, and subscribe, like, share the whole
thing, that really really helps us, because we're really pushing, and if I could ask just one more
extra favor today, we are so close to our first 500 subscribers, I can taste it, and coffee would
go down really really good today, if we could get over the top, so we're about 150
away from our first 500, and it would be what a great celebrating weekend,
go heading into the weekend, being over 500, and on our way to our thousand, we need to get to a
thousand, we have the viewing hours in, which is 4,000, you have to have 4,000 viewing hours,
and a thousand subs, and we should have been there sooner, but you know what, I've been learning
along the way, and things are going to improve, and get much better, as we have some resources,
some funds to work with, so there's lots of things we want to do, and by this time next year,
we'd like to be at a 100000 subscribers, so we can give a muscle car away every single year
going forward, so I have 22 muscle cars put away, that it will be the first contenders,
and what we'll do from that is raffle the vehicles off, and proceeds going to local charities in our
area in the Niagara region, we'll keep back the net cost of creating and building that car,
so we can do the next one, and get the ball rolling, so lots of things that we want to
accomplish, but we need some of that folding stuff to help us to do it, and we're not asking it
out of your pocket, unless you want to do a donation, I'm thinking about setting up a donation
part on our YouTube channel, so that you can help Skippy and I have coffee every week,
it helps, it really does, so let's jump into today's topic, that's the housekeeping,
and we have not, because we ask not, if there's anything you need, I'm only an email away,
you can put something in the comments, and don't forget to comment on the YouTube videos,
because that really helps us a great deal, you don't have to write the war and peace like I would,
but I generally put a comment, a pinned comment in there to get the conversation going,
so once again remember we have Q&A Saturday coming up, we are on the back door of that
one hour program, and I picked three questions from what you send in, so I need your questions
by noon on Friday, so I can put it all together for Saturday morning, so thank you so much to all
those who have been participating, you're wonderful, great,
and we appreciate you, today's topic, yeah, car caregiver, you know, we have givers,
we have givers, caregivers that take care of us when we're not well, I hope, I would hope so,
wouldn't you, somebody's going to kind of watch out for you, yeah, I think that would be good,
so let's jump into our morning swiggy, we've got Thursday weather coming up in just a moment as well,
so thanks for joining us in the car connection workshop, again, I am your host, I'm my host,
MotorMouth, Niall Jenkins, or Niall MotorMouth Jenkins is actually NMJ, Niall MotorMouth Jenkins,
wow, I'll tell you, the interwebs is just blasted wide open with this ongoing
discussion about planned obsolescence, I'll tell you, there's been more and more whistleblowers
coming forward and saying, hey, yeah, this is right, but I think there's more to it,
there is more to it with what's going on with engines with Toyota, not all the engines, just
one specific engine, and I watched a technician yesterday tearing one down, so I've got a bird's
eye view of exactly what's going on inside that motor, and it's a, a manufacturing
issue with GM, the 5.3 and the 6.2 engine, and their transmission valve bodies just plain and
simple have sucked since 1992, so it's nothing new for me to hear that, it's like, huh, you're just
finding out, you're just figuring that one out now, yeah, it's kind of like, how, how do they,
you know, how do they get the jelly inside the jelly donut, huh, I know how they do it,
so it's not a big deal, but when I didn't know it was like, hey, we got to find out,
we got to get on that, how do they, how do they get that stuff inside the donut,
so on 321 let's give a big thank you to Earl and Louise Grant and City Auto Sales
and Leasing providing us with a safe haven, and I mean that, they've earned their title,
let me tell you, because I have not brought any dealerships, any car lots, I will say this to
my dying breath, they've not built the best dealership yet, I'm waiting, waiting for an invite,
love to see it, haven't seen it yet, so I'm grateful and thankful to Earl and Louise for coming out
many years ago, or Louise gave me a call and we lined things up and I'll tell you,
that is a safe haven for you to go and buy a vehicle and have a great
experience at the same time, because Mama Louise, she is going to love all over you,
you won't want to leave, so take your toothbrush and jammies, because you can buy a vehicle there
with confidence and be treated with nothing less, and I mean this, nothing less than honesty and
integrity, this husband and wife team, their car guys and Earl will bring nothing back
to the shop that's junk, it stays there, they have the resources for low mileage
quality vehicles at fair prices, you can't ask anymore than that, they're GTA's, the greater
Toronto area's premier pre-owned auto store, if you got to drive 90 minutes one way to get there,
to know that you're buying a quality vehicle from people that have an
integrity, it's worth it folks, it is absolutely worth it, so on 321 thank you Earl
Louise, yeah just dropped my coaster, that's all, stuck to the bottom of my cup, 321
let's have a swiggy, it's Thursday and it's still hot, live in the dream baby, just live in the dream,
are you living the dream yet with your automobile, and I hope that if you're with an earshot of this
podcast, remember our podcast can be found on all the platforms, Spotify, iHeart, iHeart is our home
base, iHeart, Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Podbean, and all the other podcast platforms, wherever you
pull your podcast from, just type in the box, car connection workshop, and ta-da, I'll be there for
you, isn't that a song, I'll be there for you, that's a line out of a song, yeah, I'll think about
who that is, and then I'll get back to you in a minute, Brian Adams, I'll be there for you,
I think that was a title track to a movie, let me know which one it was, I don't watch movies, I'm
not patient enough to do it, it's got to be raining really really bad and I have no car stuff to take
care of, then I can pretty much watch an entire movie, because that's like, you're asking me to
sit for 90 minutes, that's a lot, that's a lot for me, well thank you to our certified financial
planning professionals for bringing us Thursday mornings weather report, thank you Tony Miele
and Larry Tietro, they're there for us as well, if you've got questions, they've got answers,
you want to work with a certified financial planner, that's a CFP, not an advisor,
they're in training, you need a CFP, if they have those credentials in front of their name,
you are in the right spot, Tony and Larry combined have over 50 years experience for you, they are
my personal financial planners and I'll tell you they have helped me navigate through some very
tough rows to home, let me tell you, there's nothing you're going to mention that they have
not heard or dealt with before, so if you have an investment portfolio that is not performing,
you've got to get it moved and get it working for you, they deal with debt, a proper estate planning,
mortgages, I don't go to the bank anymore, I have not for years, great rates, fantastic people to
deal with, you know, with IG, wealth management, the mortgage ladies are out in Winnipeg and I'll
tell you, you leave the message, bam, they get right back to you and they're on it and they'll
follow up, so life insurance, critical illness insurance, all these questions that you have,
that you have not gotten an answer, you can get a direct answer from those who have the fruit on
the tree, so book your discovery meeting, we call an hour and a coffee, just do it folks,
don't put it off any more, so ladies, if he won't do it, you do it, guys, if she won't do it,
she's got enough to do anyway already, if you've got kids at home, take that issue away, be the man,
pony up and get an hour and a coffee and sit with these guys, pick which one you want to sit with
and get it done, so you can zoom, coffee shop, your table, the conference room, or by phone,
and my suggestion would be, meet them in person and watch what happens, you'll be absolutely amazed
when you think all is lost, these guys, they know their craft, they don't need any more clients,
they're helping you because they know me, that's why they're doing it, they're giving back,
they're giving back of their time and talent, so take advantage of that but not advantage
of that and be honest and don't book an appointment and cancel, book it, cancel, don't do that,
that's very disrespectful of their time, they're offering it, take advantage of it, well here's
what we got today, I wouldn't say new and improved over yesterday but we'll just call it the flavor
tastes just a little bit different today on the weather, we do have some RAIN coming in yesterday,
they say we had .1 of an inch, not along the south shores of Lake Erie, it was raining cats and dogs
and a few hamsters in there, expect .1 of an inch today, we're going to hold them to that
just so you know, 38 degrees right now and partly cloudy, sunny conditions from 7am till noon, yippee
with mostly cloudy conditions expected at 4pm, so today's temperature range will be
38 degrees to 52, okay and feels like 38 to 49, I'm holding my breath because you know I've been
wanting to do this 30 day fuel savings challenge to put a minimum $100 a month back in your pocket
per car and we just can't seem to get there just yet, we've got to be ideally 65 degrees and staying
and holding to do it and do it well and get that $100 in fuel savings back in your pocket
per month per car and then if you have the guts to do part two you could possibly increase that
to $200, so you know are you going to get a $1,200 or $2,400 raise this year do you think?
It's like saying do you really think there's going to be a spring this year?
Yeah, Groundhog's Day, not likely, okay let's move on, we have a great topic this morning
and thank you to the Grimo Family, Kathy, Dave and Dan for bringing the this morning's program to
you the 8am Motor Mouth Morning Drive, Niagara Block, 5000 Montrose Road, Niagara Falls, Building
Canada since 1931 and I'll tell you if you are wanting to create that backyard space ladies that
you've always wanted and the fella saying man cave, man cave no no mama gets mama cave then you
get man cave that's how that works guys just so you know because when mama's happy the whole world
is happy and the planet doesn't vibrate it doesn't it's smooth smooth as glass
so if you're looking to create that outdoor space or you have some kind of a building project they
have all the block you can imagine designer just your basic cinder block fancy stuff
angle iron rebar demandly kind of gear right and then all the hardscape landscaping materials
you can even think of they can develop an English walkway for you yeah I have one it's very nice
the robins love picking the moss out between the uh the rocks the slabs for some reason
worming's good there I guess anyhow but the moss makes it look really good it looks more English
like me so thank you to the Greenville family and Kathy Greenville has a list of contractors
if you need a referral she's got a list of quality contractors that you can connect with to estimate
start the job finish the job and you get to enjoy the results so this morning we're talking about car
being a car caregiver what does that look like and at the end of the day what does that net you out
and I qualify myself definitely as a car caregiver I don't like to see automobiles go to waste you
if it's going to take some blood guts and gore to bring the thing back to like if you haven't
watched our 1997 Jeep TJ Wrangler rescue you got to watch that because that was blood guts and gore
and it's running now it you can hop in and go through all the gears and drive it we're just
waiting to get it out to my friend Jesse's custom shop out in Wayne Fleet does anybody know where
Wayne Fleet is can you get there from here let me know in the in the email motormouth.jankins
at gmail.com I have an official fleeters t-shirt yeah people out there they're known to
be fleeters Wayne fleet fleeters yeah that I was I was given a an official fleeter t-shirt so did
did that make me an official fleet or do you think or only when you're wearing it I don't know
let me know in the in the comments but anyways yeah lots of things going on out there in Wayne
Fleet Ontario so you've got to be willing to be that car caregiver so we rescued that 97
Jeep TJ Wrangler by we're in a truck motor coach trailer tractor trailer box truck
junkyard or recycle yard just to be friendly friendlier it was junkyard and I found it in
there buried amongst all the trucks and I'm like oh hello hello little feller what are you doing in
here so in the mud in my work clothes check the frame and go it's got a good frame it was fairly
looking solid I'm thinking you know what we might be able to rescue this thing that'd make a great
series so it did it made a great series so we haven't get yeah we have given it a name black and red
yeah like a roulette wheel black and red and you'll get an understanding when you watch the videos
and it now has an eight ball shifter on it and a brand new clutch in there we did it all we
did all the maintenance and we show you all that in our YouTube videos so that was a real rescue a
heavy-duty rescue the 08 vSAN Rogue was a heavy-duty rescue that needed a lot of hours of TLC to bring
it back to roadworthy condition and I'm utilizing it and I'll tell you the thing's been amazing
and we talked about transmission service that video I believe comes out this week to show you
transmission service a reminder if you have an automatic transmission they're not maintenance
free we're going to talk about that in more details on another program I was just listening to an
engineer yesterday and and I was like I was giving him a standing ovation because he was saying
everything that I've known all along about automatic transmissions and yes his final words were
whoever's telling you they're maintenance free is a liar that's what he said just quote unquote
he's a he's a liar he's costing you an arm and a leg because at some point that transmission's
going to fail and it's your dime not theirs and that's where again they they want you out of your
automobile they want you disgusted fed up in the whole nine yards with it and you pitch the keys
and you say take me to your leader I want to buy a new one that's what they want but you want they
want you doing that all the time so they're not pushing maintenance we're gonna
we're gonna tap into that very very shortly and uh yeah and I want to put a plug in for a youtube
channel I came across I really like the guy and he really knows what he's talking about in uh what's
the real world what's going on out there bakes on things so I want to put that I watch him every day
he brings us up to speed and puts it out there exactly what's going on no fluff
and he's on twice a day for about 15 minutes bakes on things so check it out let him know I sent
you over there he's one of us and uh I appreciate what he's doing because he's out there he's putting
the right information in front of us so that we can stay up to speed and I respect those people
big time because you know why they're the ones that are getting poked in the chest and are on the
hot plate all the time because they are putting the good stuff out there the truth they're giving us
it the hardcore truth so would you uh put a plug in for me and let them know that uh motormouth sent
you over there so learning how to be a car caregiver just like me you will also reap the
rewards of being able to have a vehicle that's close to 400 000 kilometers with just basic maintenance
that's right basic maintenance making sure first and foremost the structural integrity
of the vehicle is maintained what does that mean it means it has to get the marmalade on there
that I'm taking that from my friend Jillian she calls it the marmalade and she knows and
understands the marmalade because the vehicle that I got from her the 99 rocket has lots of marmalade
on it that's why it's 1999 got it the structural integrity has to be maintained first and foremost
the rest is gravy is it good gravy it has to be good gravy or it's just not worth at the time
so you can look on our website they don't endorse me but they have one of the best products
on the market so you can niggle them and say you should support that guy what's wrong with you
what's wrong with you exactly on our homepage you'll see a logo for the product you won't be
able to miss it I'll give you the initials cf okay the moment they throw some donuts down
I'll mention their name in full but they do have a really really good product the best product
I've seen by far for almost 15 years I've been using it I think for about 13 now
and so that has to be first and foremost so structural integrity maintain that again the rest
is gravy it really is and it isn't difficult so this morning's conversation oh there's my
reminder bakes on things yeah he's gonna be yeah that's gonna be good I can't wait to watch that
I'll watch that during my morning coffee yeah because we have lots to do today I got three videos
to edit thumbnails podcasts to thumbnail the list never ends I put in about 80 hours a week right
now so we can reduce that once we get monetized but right now we're really putting the hammer down
so that we can really make a difference out there because you guys you're getting taken advantage
of big time by the automakers period and I don't like that that bothers me a lot so we gotta change
that as I talked about yesterday move from being a con consumer to a prosumer and don't be afraid
to say you know what nuts to your piece of junk I'm moving on to something else try it out
exactly you know I moved from noodle art to crocheting and it's a it's a tough move but you know
I really liked my noodle art but crocheting I'm not too sure yet but I'm trying it out
we'll see how it goes I'll keep you posted so learning to be a car caregiver puts a whole
different spin on this automobile ownership thing and I'll tell you what they won't like you
why because you're going to keep your older car and you're going to be right behind me
putting four to five to 600000 kilometers on your car with just basic maintenance
learning to be that car caregiver you have to be your vehicle's physician
that's the way I look at it that's how I view it you know the fj's been in the bay the service
bay for the last couple of weeks and I'm the physician checking it over giving it an exam
it's spring time it's spring examination time I want to see everything because when I hit the road
and we gather in our wood for next fall right away and it's it is the the log
polar trailer lifter thingy whatever needs to be done guy gets it done so we're hauling the trailer
full of hardwood several times a week till we get the wood lot here at homestead filled back up
ready for next year so he's a workhorse when the little 97 GTJ Wrangler is ready he's going to take
over those things so I can extend the life of the Toyota FJ Cruiser not to say we're going to kill
the poor little thing but it's geared right and it can do the job it's got the hitch on it we're
all ready to go and yes we will not abuse it we will take very very good care of it and keep it
going for years to come I just don't like the cleanup on the fj afterwards you know the mud the
muck and the mire it takes a while to clean off if it's gooey out there so the the little fj's
much smaller and much easier to clean up so number two well back to number one
you to be a caregiver you've got to become your vehicle's physician so you have to be in charge
of regular checkups and this is how easy it is folks we don't need to complicate this thing
we over complicate it or we just go well we'll just ignore that it'll go away no it won't it'll
fester and many of you get caught from what could be a $200 repair into a $5,000 repair and you get
the what exactly you know what I'm talking about how are we going to come up with that cake honey
how where's that coming from better tighten your belts and remove your socks on that one
regular checkups so for me regular checkups are a full physical examination twice a year
spring and fall every year how did I get to 400,000 k we're just on the back door
and yeah that's it there's not much more to say I'm giving you the secret today
you have to listen to that podcast the secret the secret is the sauce
then you'll get the rest of the story on that podcast the secrets in the sauce
so be your vehicle's physician regular checkups this is where you move from being
in the know instead of not because when you're not in the know guess what happens
I'm going to tell you there's only two ways to own an automobile living in the unknown
or living in the know one creates a bag of hammers and lots of stress and the other
gives you freely soft peaceful freedom that you know what you know that's going on with your
automobile period then you can take care of it don't let the maintenance get away from you
that's the secret take care of the structural integrity of the vehicle by
rustproofing it every year so you can well that's going to cost money you know what
everything costs money in this world go ahead take a breath that's a buck 99 get ready get ready
they're going to come up with a way where we have to wear masks that have meters on
go ahead it's thursday have an extra breath it's two for one
believe you me if they could do it they'd stink and do it so how do we fight back how do we fight
back the car manufacturers that are that have stacked the deck in their favor we talked about
that yesterday don't get me going on a rant i got clean clothes on they've stacked the deck folks
but i'm laughing because i know the way around it and i've been doing what and
and i'm out of that i'm not paying interest in principle ever again done that's it they're not
getting a marble for me not a single marble let me tell you nothing and to tell you here's the thing
to tell you that the dealers don't want to sell you parts to fix your car here i'm going to give
you a quick an example here and yes i will move on i ordered two little shifter components for the
2008 road because the shifter it's an automatic the shifter is going to come off in my hand
anytime now and go flying through the sunroof and then it's gone it's over she's singing
eight weeks so i'm going to call them today and go like because you know we got a slow boat from
china coming when like where are we at fellas i can find it elsewhere if it's a problem
they put it on rush rush order two weeks ago we're now officially in week number eight
for two little components so i can fasten the shifter back to the the shifter shaft
i got to give it the shaft and lock it in well yeah and i away i don't know what happened blah
blah you know i was like okay i got it ordered now i got it on uh i got it on uh emergency order
fast order that was two weeks ago you see what's going on do you see the game that is a game
they don't want you buying parts over the counter and if you do you're going to pay
through the nose they're giving you no breaks you want the parts we'll give you the parts
yeah it's more money than yesterday we spun the wheel this morning and the prices went up
that's how it works so regular checkups number three point number three here's what will happen
you will net back happy healthy motoring sound like something you'd like to try
because i know that you all can do it you yes you can you just got to put your head to it
and it i made it i'm going to help you even more and do all the homework for you except
what it takes to get it done which is you got to do the do does and the did is done
so become the best car care giver because this is how you're going to win the car game and you're
going to move from being a con consumer and under the thumb of the car manufacturers and dealers
if they're both playing the game together folks that's what you have to know and i'm not being
disrespectful i'm just calling it out just like my friend bakes there does he calls it out the way it
is and i'm disgusted to watch it and see it continue to come out in the open is making me smile because
it's time the gig is up fellas the gig is up like tv tv is free it has been for how long now we
finally know it now they're hurting it radios the next thing to go it is it will it's bleeding out
slowly but it's going to be gone car manufacturers don't want to put radios in cars anymore so it's
everybody's podcasting anyway so it doesn't matter be the best car caregiver you can possibly be
be your visit your vehicles physician you're the one that's booking the regular checkups
you're doing the the examination and then booking the surgery room for the checkups
for things to be taken care of stay ahead of the curve don't let the maintenance slide back
because that vehicle that's paid for is money in the bank you've got to throw parts at cars
no matter whether it's five years old two years old it breaks stuff it needs maintenance they are
not maintenance free we've covered that a million times and in hearing that engineers say that yesterday
was like yes i actually jumped up out of my office chair and gave him a full hard core
standing elevation he said the quiet piece those are telling you things are maintenance
freeze free are absolute liars they're a little bit tough but who cares they've been taken advantage
of us for many many years not me probably you so i'm here to help you regular checkups will net
happy healthy motoring and number four i leave you with this one it's a winner friends that's a
we are all dumber than a willow branch and that ticks me off so my job after 44 years as an automotive
service tech is to blow them in and do it respectfully we know what they're doing we now
know that it's true beyond the shadow of a doubt with what's going on with the garbage that they're
putting out and they they're not surprised breaking down they're not
surprised the engines are falling apart why because they made it that way they did it on purpose
the two engineers i watched this week from gm blew them in big time not one of them said anything i
didn't already know and suspect but the truth came out they've been having the engineers create
defunct components so the hope is that they hang in there long enough to get you over the warranty
line so that it's your dime to fix their junk there you go that's the bottom line that's how
it's working they're setting it up stacked they've stacked the deck for you to lose
and i'm here to teach you how to win because there's no losers here in the car connection workshop
we're all winners we are i'm here to help you you got questions i'll help you to the best of my
ability because i personally motormouth want to see you win it's time it's time for the underdog
that's going out there every day trading time for money day in and day out home to work
home to work get off the wheel lick the little ball get a pellet
and a nap and get up and do the same darn thing the next day to make a car payment
are you kidding me if that's as good as life gets take me now
that's for sure i'm in your corner and come and join us on our youtube channel and learn
as much as you possibly can and you will you will learn a ton of things that will keep
your automobile rolling it's not a tough job friends it's not it is not a tough job i'm not
working on my automobiles every single day all the time for placing stuff nope this is what they
try and sell you nope but i'll tell you what you get one of those newer vehicles
it's going to be in the more in the shop than in your driveway and you're making payments on it
that's sick because they planned that the deck is stacked it's time to win we'll see you tomorrow
morning stop by and join us for another motormouth morning drive 8 a.m we'll see you Friday morning
for fun Friday make it a great day keep it under 100 keep an eye on your co-pilot if you have one
don't let them touch anything and make it a happy healthy motoring day

About this episode
The hosts mix workshop banter, local promotions, and a strong maintenance message centered on keeping vehicles roadworthy without draining your wallet. They share rescue stories like a 1997 Jeep TJ Wrangler and a revived 1999 Honda Civic DX, then argue that automatic transmissions need service and that ignoring small issues can turn a modest repair into a major bill. The episode also pushes regular checkups, structural integrity, and a more proactive owner mindset.
Welcome back to the Thursday Morning Motormouth Podcast! Today we're talking about becoming the caregiver your vehicle desperately needs before small issues become expensive disasters.
Modern vehicles aren't getting simpler, cheaper, or easier to repair - and the deck is stacked against the average owner. That's why proactive maintenance matters more now than ever before.
In today's episode, Motormouth breaks down the 4 key benefits of becoming your vehicle's first line of defence:
👉 Be your vehicle's physician
👉 Perform regular inspections and schedule checkups before failures happen
👉 Stay on top of repairs instead of letting problems snowball
👉 Build long - term reliability, lower stress, and healthier motoring
We also dive into how the Car Connection Fleet Maintenance System helps drivers stay ahead of costly breakdowns and avoid the trap of reactive repairs.
The manufacturers may want you trading in - but keeping your oldie going is still one of the smartest financial moves you can make.
