Does professional radio show? Automatic Perfection comes in
the form of two letters, A and E.
My LTD. We're gonna car talk.
It's me, Matty. J here.
Online with alum, deep Singh. Scotty do, Johnson.
Edward bunting Adrian digiorgio and Rizzi rice actor.
How are we guys? Welcome to car talk.
I'm ready to get some technical difficulties with be many.
Before the show? Yes.
Yes. It's a, it's a Tuesday night as
we always do what I hear on on the podcast.
These gentlemen, welcome to another the 400 first edition of cartography or I one, and another one.
And another one is gonna have 401 questions.
Yes, it's gonna be a long night. Hopefully.
You ready Scotty? You've prepared.
Family are all of those Levi's 501s, not 40 ones.
You heard of them? Don't know.
I'm famous, Levi design. I think it was a Levi's. 501.
Maybe I'm going to Target my target guy.
So that's as far as I go. What's the 411?
So what are we doing on the 420 420?
We get liking bacon. What you want to ask.
Special that one for getting high on their, everyone come to camera for that one. It's called victimized up there.
Yeah. Like well.
You can have marijuana plants, you can't buy the seeds.
So there's that, you know, question ability of how you got the feed and then if you have enough plants, the a fee will come and take it away and Scott Morrison will cook it into a curry. That's undercooked.
Okay. When you are allowed to have
your own plants? Yes.
Yes, you are. We'll have to do the Elon Musk
special for that episode. I think that that that that
whole conversation reminds me of that, I think it was Harold and Kumar Yeah, but they were trying to get special weed.
So and then, you know, we have a resident doctor that can obtain all of that in Canberra for us, you know?
I'm saying, absolutely. You can do it medicinally, if
you know what I mean but LM, hey, what's up with you, man?
How's it going up there? What's happening in your world?
Not a whole lot, just business as usual, you know, driving around EST. I try not to get into trouble.
I saw a recent post on the Subaru.
By selling swapping think that somebody a Toyota dealership had offered a gentleman swap for his speaker model year. 21st, I plus
cash is way for a Supra. Well, and he was questioning
whether or not to take it, which got me a little intrigued.
I mean, I wouldn't go for a Supra if I'm honest.
Maybe, as I said, yeah, I got a deal for you, my friend.
So, It's Made Me interested. It's by the same time doing like
all the STI. Probably not.
I was looking to leverage the cash to get enough to you know, get the get into the said enough cash, left over to get myself into a blob is t.i. Now, I'm pretty happy and
probably at years worth of a portal.
You know, that we got amazing. That's that's the bonus.
You know? I'm saying, I like where your
head's at? Tell em.
It's a it's interesting, you you're in the, how would we explain this you're in, you're in good stead with your car currently? I think I am.
Mr. Turner thousand dollar STI over there.
Hey, I'm not the one that's trying to stop selling him.
It's true. How do you took advantage of the
situation Scooby-Doo? Getting better?
Pretty much so might we can you Scotty?
Nah, I've done all the tests. Not covered the flu.
I think that's really bad at all and son to lose my voice again after teaching Bank of work, My voice comes back in the morning, teach one session, and my voice is gone again, so it's better, right? Yep.
This is yall's, aren't you? Kids are caught them.
That's it. Well, I say what they want, when
they know that you're not feeling the best.
Yeah, you should do the Aussie dollar Vernon Kelly.
We just sort of a one on the white board.
It's your lunch time guys. I'm not worried.
You just tell them where to go. It's just that some of them I
can just give him the look. I just give them a look and they
stopped. All right, just tell them.
You should tell Greg, can you give us the look now?
Because he teaches that look is part of the profession.
Wait, Go.
You just can't it's very easy to get to keep control.
I mean, we might have a great podcast material, we doing visuals right now, but but Scotty gave the look of like death. So it was all ultimate dagger.
So, just just putting it out there, not bad scoring.
I like it. I like, ya know, anyone that's
had, you know, been in primary school with like, a PE teacher, melty teacher, even a midlife crisis.
They've seen that look. So, you know, people can
visualize, it's one of those, you know, from the universe.
Make him cry. Otherwise you don't pass it.
Is this studies like pedagogy and Bloom's, taxonomy.
And then you get and then you get the look exactly.
I actually should teach that, you know, like class control.
Like this should teach that Union.
Tell you what, that's what I feel is one of those things you learn as a dad you know that look oh and your father and now I've had that look from a father in the house.
Somebody gonna get hurt. Real bad I'm bought another car
the look The Look the look and that is 11.
Look Scotty, I don't want to be on the receiving end of sometimes. You can do the combo.
You do the look and the click whoo laughing.
I cannot see He's all this me given the look and you go and get thank him again. Ha ha ha the clicking on the
point and then they go sit down. So yeah you got it on there for
a lot of these like one time we were in the library and a young man named Jack was messing around on top of the tables and the librarian, you know, put on his authoritative voice and said, jack off the table. And I think it didn't Of having
the effect that he wanted, because he kind of looks comfortable there. Yeah.
Now I would have lost that. If I said that for the day, you
lose the authority of this. That's Albert.
I'm still immature. What's funny?
It's a vicious creatures that he can't show any weakness.
This is true. Anyway, more about teaching,
talk here on carto house, the cars doing, they still just sitting around. Yeah, I got the inspection done
for the The Subaru that's booked in for the 7th of June.
What's that? Had it that way?
What done? I'm get the damage fixed.
Not bad. We had some experience, didn't
seriously. Over the nice I30.
Look what can I say that brand? Just cause Me Harder wheezing.
I don't like 30, man. We tested that out.
We were even at Sandown. Modbury what we think we were
doing Once Upon a Time with a 9:30.
And yeah, this is a dance. Anyway, let's a bit off-topic
back to the house to me. Well see, I mean, it's a dance
until and a lantern reason. I also we're is that it is
incidental intro. Overseas.
Because it because it's there called the I30 sedan here, but I wasn't sure if it's 9:30. What do you reckon of the rear
of those? Um it's interesting.
It looks like it's it looks like you know in South Park when when they get angry and they cross the Horizon and they're going like that. Yes.
That's what they're gonna say that now.
But you know, well I I see him as long as you don't mind, the look of my think. They're quite a thing.
They're quite an awesome God. It's very angular.
Yeah, it's other but they are the quite a bit expensive as well. I thought compared to the very
pricey, the very pricey of all surprised how expensive they were. I think they approaching closer
to scenario if they still make them but I don't even know if they make the Sonata anymore. Dig sir.
Hmm, that's long gone. Now they still make it but I
don't think we get it anymore. Okay.
Yeah, moving on to Edward. Hello.
Hello updates and you. What's happening in your world?
Well there's been a car development.
What are we talked last time when we talked last time about still got the Ariane Ariane around, still for sale, but I have purchased another vehicle. From it's going to become part
of the permanent Edward Fleet. It's not a better, not be a
falcon. I say it's not a falcon.
We started Falcon. I'm still keen on the Falcon he
needs a few, need a falcon in your Fleet.
Just a hard-working Falcon, you know, you don't you don't but you do. You do that?
Anyway, I've purchased a car of someone that, you know, mr.
Prince, who's not here tonight. He's decided to downsize a
couple of years. Little scampi vehicle collection
Hondas and I couldn't resist a little 600 big block.
So they're cool. It's a big-block 600cc.
It's a twin cylinder, it's a three-speed automatic.
And all of these things on paper would lead you to think why would you ever want that card? But when units, that's what I
thought for. I drive it.
Now I drove it and I was like this thing is so sweet to drive.
I couldn't resist. So you purchase State.
I've purchased the 1971. Honda Scamp 600cc from David
from David. So it's gone from from one
member of the show to another member of the show show to another movie, this show. That's how long have you had
that car for? He's other for a while, he said
about five years before that another club member had it for about 15 years. And before that it was the
original old lady owner. So we looked at the old
roadworthy when David got it. And in last five years it's
totaled. 500 miles. So it hasn't done a whole lot of
driving and I said this car needs to be used more.
So on Sunday, I took it down to a friend's and back down the freeway and it was zipping along like a little motorcycle and I had, I took my Bluetooth speaker so I had 60s and 70s Tunes playing on the speaker. It has no radios.
Never had a radio in it and so, I'm driving along in this thing at 60 miles, an hour, listening to 60s tunes and I was like, this is a time machine. In this is as close as you'll
get to it through a time machine.
So it's a 71. You said 71?
Yeah. And it's blue.
Yeah. It's a Lightman telling blue.
Yeah. You like you've seen.
You've had a drive in. David's red, one.
Just a few weeks ago. Maybe they'll have.
Yeah, I really like that, but you need to have a go in this one. Is it on club?
Play this club plates? Yeah.
So have you transferred into your name yet?
Not yet. I'm getting a roadworthy on
Friday so then it'll get one. So Right with you, I'll transfer
it over. This is a permanent stay.
It's a permanent stay. I mean, this car is totally
original 22,000 miles since new like.
It's very, very untouched. And unmolested example, the
likes of which you will probably never see again, in your life.
And, and I like it, you know, it's like, I've got the city, I've got the mini and now I've got the little Japanese Scamp.
Yeah, so you've got the city of joy.
Ponies. You've got the mini English and
we have got the scams hundred Scamp Japanese.
So, you got you got you need to get a like a nice setup or something to to get together to get that whole, the whole kind of set the little cars. I do.
I do inherently prefer little cars to bigger cars, as much as I like, driving around in like the, the turo go or the or the Mercedes 300. But even those are not that big,
you know, they're not they're not.
Class or the sized cars. So, yeah, it's just totally
joyous to drive its rack-and-pinion steering.
Its power boosted, breaks its silky smooth automatic, which is remarkable given the Honda develop that transmission themselves. I was reading up on them,
parently the back in the late 60s.
They went to BorgWarner to develop a transmission for them.
For the, for the Honda Scamp. And BorgWarner said, no, because
they didn't want to do it or was too expensive, or whatever, for whatever reason Baldwin said, no, we're not going to do it.
So mr. Mr. Honda went and developed his
own. Own transmission and, and it's a
peach and you just think what a what a remarkable engineering feat, you know, for that. That's why Honda were just so
ahead of the game for so many years.
You can really tell from this car.
They put a lot of thought into the design and the way it worked was on the reason why Toyota became so sorry.
Honda kind of became Honda because due to wanting to push the boundaries further like well isn't that the kind of the whole idea? Yeah.
Well, he was certainly very good at that and I'd had use of motorcycle manufacturing. And then they went into the
first cars, were not actually this one, the there were the us, but the first cars in a worldwide with the S600 s800 little convertibles from the late 60s, very pretty little cars, quite dainty, but, but well, put together and they were twin cylinder sort of are called, as well.
I think, and then this was the first sort of, you know, passenger car they did all even though it's tiny and it's the size of a mini It's got the same tires on my mini actually that, you know, it's little 10 inch wheels but yeah, just I don't know. There's just something about it
when you drive it, you'll, you can't help but smile driving this thing. Yeah, I want to go with that.
If you really want, it really want to go.
And, um, it's very, very likable.
So yeah, I really, I really enjoy driving it around all weekend, and I look forward to, to using it a little more than maybe press. Mr. Prince, got to you.
Bring it out someday for us. Well it may well yeah the old
highball because I've got the only other car got in town is the city. So it may it may make an
appearance. Yeah.
Unless you want the Ori onto her rocker I was thinking more Ori on. What do you think?
Scotty Oriole. I think Orion like thing that
stuff. Yeah.
Okay. Congratulations mr.
Bunny, that's awesome. Another layer, another little
machine that mini that I bought. I did buy that other 67 mini off
my friend. That I will, I will have to on
Cell because the Scamp sort of peaked my interest more than that mini. And the reality is the mini
needs a little bit more money thrown at it, which I've currently run out of. So I think that the, yes, I
think that needs to go, it's a great.
It's a great. In fact, I had actually had I
advertised it yesterday and I had a call from the guy that restored it back in the late 90s.
I know that car and he's actually toying with buying it back, all right. That would be, that would be
lovely If he if he did. Because that would be.
He knows who recently, but who knows?
You know, know what's happening with that the Red Sox team is that is that is, yeah, it's a little bit back burner.
The motor is still with the motor guy.
He's got two blocks and he was pulling them apart to see, which is the best donor block to build the new motor out all, and that's a slow burn. He's got a lot of other projects
on and, you know, I hear from him once every few months pretty much. So I'm yeah, that's that car
will get done. You know, it, I dragged out a
little press material last night and have another look through it actually. All the Press photos of that
car, the wheels Magazine with that car in it or that.
So I've I'm partway there, you know, I had welding done, I had the wheels all powder coated and straightened and they're ready to go. I've got a lot of the bit
sitting there ready to go back on it, but I'd like to do the motor and get the brakes done and done it all.
But you know, I just bought another rather large property.
Well I don't think logically, it's Lodge for me.
I suppose you can fit a lot of cars in it type property and for my future I can't use it at the moment but for the future and so that's taken a lot of coin. You know all the money sort of
drained from my accounts and but nevertheless there was room for one more scam but it's my favorite room for one more at the end but I think I might sell the white Renault that my brother has that it will. He's been using it but I think I
might sell that to sort of pop a A force camp and just just reduce the fleet by one maze. You still keen on that car.
My brother. Yeah yeah he look he really
likes it but you know it's it's not I did say to him during a bite off me and he's in our Iraq, talk to him tonight.
He said, said probably not the right time to buy it.
That I said, well, other than that, I'll sell it, but then, I might Park one of my other fleet cars up at his house, and he will get to use that. So he sort of he loves this
little free freight train. Them use AIDS cars but don't
actually have to own them. It's the best kind of way.
Yeah, that's kind of why exactly that kind of person really you have never seen in person. David's, always talked about it,
but I've never seen him. Oh, you have to come around and
see it all dry. All private to you.
Any used to drive it? I will.
I love driving it. Yeah, absolutely.
Come around Adria. You had a big week, what's
happening? I am good.
I'm tired very tired just came back from baathist and went up to the 12 hour which is a lot of fun.
A thirst. Yeah.
So how was it was absolutely fantastic.
Highly recommend bucket list item for any compass and I'd say. So the only disappointing part
about this year is that a lot of the teams couldn't actually get Throughout borders. So all they really was was
ascites Audi, and Porsche. So like all the rest of the
things like Bentley, BMW, Clarin Ashton.
None of them worked out. Yeah.
They couldn't get rid of orders. Shane.
Yeah. So that was the only
disappointing part and that was the 12-hour you went to you correct? Yeah.
So like everyone says, like Bathurst is like a pilgrimage, every car guy has to do or car person has to do.
Look I wouldn't personally go to the Baptist 1000 just because there's a lot more. Should we say interesting people
that go? That wife to consume lots of
lemon squash. You saying it's a Bogan event
Adrian. Look, I'm not saying anything,
but the 12 hours a lot better. Like, we actually got to see a
lot of the racing same as like all the Events, like with other cars as they join in contact with the woods called, but it's like different series of racing were there as well.
So there was like the 86 series of racing.
There was combined sedans probably the 86 like a series is phenomenal because everyone's the same car.
It's just good writing. Yeah, I got bored.
I don't like any success but in all seriousness, though it was a lot. Like the combined sedans was my
favorite part. You get to say like extra V8
Supercars racing with like Xing Falcons.
Then there's God worse. It was a Swift with an SR-22.
It's just like all these other had amassed six.
There's a brand new one that had an Allison and I was racing around the track. Yeah it was absolutely hilarious
because like you see it coming up here like are called semester 60. The new shaping, that's fair
enough. Okay, here we go.
Past you like that a V8? You wait until the next lap and
you're like yes it is a VA. So that was hilarious to see did
you drive there or did you fly there that would drive.
Nice eight hours each way. Isn't that?
What, and what kind, what kind of you drive there?
So we are, we couldn't decide which one of our cars to take because they're like, no, it's not reliable enough.
So we rented a car. She looks hot insurance.
This is one of those typical things with like, you know, you're a car guy when you can't trust your own car.
So yeah, that's kind of what happened and we went to budget is my night gets like, very good discounts from there that we hired it was supposed to be a next round.
Well, Kyle that's not bad and then it being a cash car. and,
That little nugget drive us all the way there and back.
And I got another car product. They're not a good car.
Now, do I would never iron one, but the mother goddess Aaron back and that's the main thing we tried to spin the wheels on gravel didn't work. Try to spill a spin, the wheels
in the wet, didn't work. We just, there's just a nugget.
We, we realize that the, I think it has a speed limit on it at 1:30 because you can't go past 130.
I'm here with the wind behind you sir.
So you say um three and you made Skyline and all those other cars the liberty and stuff. You did not trust any single one
of those kind of my M3. I don't trust because I got fuel
pump issues with it. It's just under half a tank at
once. The back and said, you know, if
I'm going up the hill, I don't trust it.
We've also got ya, the typical BMW suspension marks.
So what are you ready to leave? Thing going.
Mmm. Yeah.
So it's 34 has really big heart issues, which is getting to the point now where he can't even accelerate like going up a hill because it's just doesn't want to move.
So, he's actually gone to the next level.
And deleting the ECU is got another one coming.
Well, he thinks that that's the issue, but that, but that kind of like New. It's like 20,000 cat night.
Like that's that's that doesn't mean it's brand-new, okay?
Because the car's got this case of insured doesn't mean it's better if you means that it's worse.
But the amount of issues at this blokes had with this car like it's because no one ever drove the car.
If you have a car that's from 98, it's got 30,000 caves.
What do you expect to happen? It never gets driven.
Yeah, nothing comes out. Like last time it dries.
Yeah, things don't work. The to like nothing works on
that car properly and it's not his fault.
It's the people that he bought off.
But if it was for a year to year and a half, it just sat outside in the street doing nothing. Hmm?
Before he owned it, not even under a couple Sounds good.
It's disappointing. But then my mates live.
The head gasket starting to go again.
So I laughed at him when he didn't change the motor in that.
Yes and someone helped him change that modok and then it's gone and done the whole head gasket issue again.
So that's a new motor. Doesn't equal the new head
gasket Adrian. You know, I was second and later
we are going to mean you can't just shove a signal motoring.
Think that all your problems are gone away.
You got it kid. You got to deal with the cause
that. Oh yes, of course.
Face in my face. And you know the Pikachu faces
on the internet when something goes wrong with.
Yeah, that was that was me and my mates Falcon keeps on, he keeps destroying the clutch cable.
Geez. Okay, so, yeah, we're just like,
we don't trust any of these cars, so I know.
So, yes, we hired a car. Drove up there.
It was fun. Next year, I'm towing my car,
which I'll explain at a whole nother time, why?
But yeah, I'm sorry, just don't take it out on the track.
Isn't he knock on? I'm not gonna take no, not
during that time. It'll it'll do one lap and then
you run bearings. And then to do that, no, sir, we
will fall off, subframe, what was the timeframe will be at the top of the mountain? I'll be at the bottom of the
window. Regulators would all stop, like,
what can a bit hot in this car? And you're trying to put down
the windows. Now it's not the roof will be
half. Open just flapping around, it's
bad. It's funny that You mention that
because I came across a mlz video and I like, I don't, I don't watch much of his stuff, but he got his first car back which is only 46 year. Like three is only five.
I yeah, he's like the amount of window regulators, I put in that car and then and they're still broke, but I'm okay.
So, I've never broken window in my dad's car has.
We've replaced it once with a brand new one that was like, Seven years ago now, but I've never had the issue again, since have you put the window down? He's kept it up.
It's just, it's taped up. That's why.
Yeah. So honestly, you guys ever get a
chance at about this. It's well worth its I know
everybody says it but it's a lot steeper in your life.
Oh, yeah. Yeah, you don't realize it.
So you're actually there. I've even like pitch straight,
the main straight when you actually look at it on TV, with the V8, looks like, it's basically flat.
But that it's not like, it's not like a fool man.
Like heard from what one last corner of the first corner.
It's just like a fool now. Hmm.
I mean, like the first time I played the first time I played that tracking. In Gran Turismo and in like 40
and stuff. I freaked out because it because
when you watch it on TV, you don't see the elevation changes that are but anybody in the game you can see it and it's just like well I did years. It was a statement, I'm
imagining it in real life, it to be even seem to be even crazier.
So we would I basically got VIP parking because originally I was going to take my car. So all it does is just means
that we don't have to walk you three kilometers to get into the track. Sorry, we use that, which means
that we enter for the main gate in the Autumn.
And we basically stayed a lot of the time at the last poem that that's where I got our spot was because it's just a request by to the entrance, we could see everything and then also when you turn around, it was a little like car show thing.
That was there which I had a Ferrari F40, boom.
So, that was really cool to see the head to Lamborghini stos.
Drag you out. I think it's the F-type really
cool V8 sounding one in convertible.
They had a solar cells convertible.
They had more Porsches than I care to see in my life.
Again, my Porsche, see what else is out there?
Had the Sadie's brand new AMG electric coughing HBO.
Yeah, that was, I guess I kind of see It's electric.
Hmm. They had a couple of manure, am
chases. Well, and they had a mock-up of
our markets are at 7:00. That's cool.
Oh yeah, that was cool. They started that up every now
and again. So that was really cool to see.
Then they had like a little merch area, which was like, yeah, okay. The pitch straight was cool to
see isn't like you watching the TV and you're like, okay, you can see, the cars are going. Possible that you look down and
you can send compost as its shown on the TV.
You're like hi. Yeah, that's right.
I am here then I went up to the top of the mountain.
They got a shuttle that goes from the bottom to the top.
All right, I went there. You stayed a bit just after the
third corner and swear the sand trap is.
So like basically the skyline that was cool watching Cars through there. And then, we decided to go all
the way to the other side. With a Dipper was and the
Dipper. Oh my God.
Like again, you say it in until you Vania laughs, okay?
You know, it is what it is. Kind of thing where we were we
were to say about a meter and a half above the depot because that's where the grass is. You could say, the whole Dipper
then you don't see anything for, like our Salvo.
You can see the whole 100 straight.
You can see the chase. You can see the last corner.
You can see the first corner. Like, you can see everything
from Up. Up there.
No. Well, it's me.
It's just you. Look on top of the world.
And I was really cool saying being up there because it rained a bit. And when it rains like will look
into Conrad straight, then you can see all the spray coming off the back of the cars. You like that was awesome.
The only part I got upset about and sadly because of the fact, I actually like the car is the to Mustangs that broke didn't finish their in the end of Invitational class.
One of them, within the fifth life must have thought that he was a Mustang again on the street and he tried to go into Whoa, to get up to the crowd, the drop of a bend it a Mustang?
Yep. Yep.
And the other one, I don't know what happened to her thinking blue, the murder. But one point, he was second
overall. All right.
And he wasn't even in the big boy classes.
So, but ya know that do both of those cars with all the had a KTM X-Bow which is like the race car, I guess that they made, it's a true harlot. Yeah.
And I had a da-5. All right which is really cool.
There was a ton of Audi R8. V10 has they were okay I guess
like you hear you hear it once and you see him grab ass again.
And again any like I've had enough of this, there was one Lambo hurricane. Which I thought was going to be
the car, that broke straight away because it's the lambo and it lasted the whole time like and he came I think was fifth overall. It's not bad.
I don't know how he did it. How do we paint job?
That one thing? Yeah, it's like the target
color. We did then the Mercedes who
they sound very weird guy. On past you on the track,
though, like, on acceleration because that, you can he like the VA? But it's very, very muffled
because they're twin turbo. So it was very interesting
hearing those like go past you. And I'm going to say I'm very
happy for the guy that got second because the whole of Saturday, he wasn't there to practice or qualify or race or anything like that. What is here, but what was he in
the white. Mercedes.
Yeah. So he had a motor issue.
They spent all the second building it up.
He started the race in last and came, second.
It's pretty good and he was like hovering between eight to nine seconds behind the driver who won, and they just kept alternating one lap. He would be nine seconds.
Next life could be eight seconds behind and he just kept alternating trying to catch. So it was really cool seeing
like that. But the best part over at all,
is the part where you wake up at 4:30 you and you watch the start of the race in the dark. That's so we had fog all over it
as well and seeing the cars like at nighttime, it's It kind of explain it. It's just like another level.
Like, you just say all the cars, you see the lights, you see the brakes glowing, you just see everything.
Yeah. So it was awesome and then you
can hear like when it's got my cars in front of you because if all like spread the pack of it, all you can hear is the cars going up the first, right? So you can either cars like
going on and then you sing Costco.
Back down that way. You like we already came?
Yeah but yeah half of that honestly man, it was really good. That's awesome.
If that's something I definitely want to do.
I'd love to see the 12. They got some really cool cars
ago and since he had a great time.
Yeah. So I know next year they said
they can be getting most of the field back again which is what I'm hoping for. Oh and also I don't know if you
guys didn't know the driver Jordan cops.
He's like he's like a young Jewish boy.
Yeah. So he was in the improved
production class until they got rid of that class.
Now, it's called combined sedans.
He's famous for when he had his age a Civic.
It was verse in a Toyota, Celica on the tractors.
Is that 20 30 pound? And he was beating that salika
up like around the mountain on three wheels.
We're going to see what he's turning that hard so he was there and I actually got to see his racing in person and holy shit. Can that man drive?
It was? It was wet.
It was foggy. And he still just dominated.
I couldn't believe it. I'm talking like he gives like
the V8 big boys as well. It's just starting in between.
Yeah, he's a he doesn't know anything but 10/10 that guy.
He's very on the limit. He's telling drama.
Yeah. He he really is so but yeah.
So that's, that was my whole weekend.
And yeah, as I said, I don't recommend doing enough awesome.
I think it's a nice. Yeah, Rizzy Ross look obviously
we can't top the kind of a kind that agent had you know I'm saying obviously the Highlight being driving around and UK's most popular SUV, the cash by it is and it's stuck a couple of things. Nothing on the car front as such
apart from the fact that I got another call from the dealer.
This time. Talking about the 400 dead
prices and just stuff in general that we already know anyway.
Have you gotten allocation? Yep.
Okay cool. So that's all sorted.
No issues at all. Well, I think you're going for
Ewing for the base or the I think I think the base if I was Going for that. But I think we might have to we
might have to call that quits my brother.
It's going to be a while before he can get his the car that he wants due to production issues, I think my production, but covid issues. So we're not selling the XC60
and then we don't have room for the 400 so I spoke to the dealer there is a chance he said we'll keep your spot.
You want to transfer into someone else's name will just reissue the paperwork? And there is a doctor that I'm
aware of some may call a of the of act that might be interested in that vehicle. And you find that the 400 set,
it's not made by Honda so he can't because yeah.
And plus it's not the big block 600.
Yeah, that's too big engine for me.
It's You know, like I said, there is a that's pretty easily sorted Alum. If that if the finances and
other things work with you, if not then you know, I'll just tell the guy. Hey it's not you know we've got
other cars now so that allocation could go to someone else who would want it more than us?
I guess. I'm pretty sure to raise your
us. You know.
You got to Crunch the numbers. You gotta But you know, there's
an election coming up, things get expensive, that's exactly what you know what I mean. Like he as you know it won't be
easy under Alban easy if you know what I mean and you know who don't know who this stuff that I could say about skull mode that you know may not be appropriate for our pg-rated audience on this podcast if you know I'm saying.
So that's an emotion your fan Cinema cars.
Could possibly involve that I did see something funny.
Nice today. But anyway, I'll I'll share that
in the chat for, for, for our video viewers.
But I think that's that's all on mind.
I think I'm probably, you know, if I made man, Alan, if it doesn't work for him, then I'll just in a week or so, call him back. But they're not even that fast
about it. They're just like, our will be
back in touch with you when we know a little bit more about the actual allocations and that could take a couple of weeks.
Yeah. So then I'll fast they'll say
They should needs to but 81 Grand, I think it is.
Hmm. So apart from that, that's all
that's happening in my car World, peeps.
Matthew, what about you with me? Not a lot to be fair now, II.
Sorry. Yes.
There I have an update actually Edward.
He's been him and myself. Have been looking for this
original Factory head unit for the MR2.
Yes, hang on when you I say we say we've been looking you basically soon come for the rodeo and I sent you about three cameras that are the older played a t-shape that for sale that had it. You're good in court.
I finally sent another one in a last-ditch attempt listeners, I send another one. And I said here it was an
Altima. I think it's got the right
stereo in it. And there, huh?
Then what happened miss you? So I miss is the bloke that I'm
like hey he done interested in the stereo from the camera you just posted. He's like yeah coming in
tomorrow. Have a look at all works so
good. The liquid crystal display is a
little bit crap but it'll be equalizer Works, everything works with it. So I was like, you know, I can
probably get that repaired. So I took it out but when 10,
when taking it out because those top-end stereos worry, Told by by Twitter Australia so that they in the MR2 and the camera Basics and Ultima which that one came with their higher end stereos we installed here. They weren't installed at the
factory, which is quite interesting.
So as you guys know, back in the 80s and the early 90s radio, theft was quite a big thing. So the way they put the radio in
there was those two bolts at the top and underneath, they Put pop rivets, they pop. Rivet, Adam in.
Wow, I had not so I had not seen that before.
Even the got like, the guy was taking it out with the with the wrecker there. And he was like, he's like, he's
like, well, he's like, obviously one of this in a while, he's like in the a late 80s, early 90s, they they pop rivet.
It stereos in to stop people from making them because that's how that's how that's how crazy crazy I was.
So after we got the drill out which we drew it out, the holes managed to get it out. Cut a bit of the extra room just
to have, but it was, it was really a bit of a shame because the current having 100 like 127 thousand cases.
We hadn't really done them any case.
And, I mean, the body was, it was pretty tight in the body, but interior was really, really, really clean.
And he had some really you had some really interesting cars there that were like, you know, Old State, you know, you know people will like old people's cars at that.
Now you know are worth nothing but with low km and in good condition like had this first gen Excel there that had six 1000 case on it and they had a one had a one-to-one from, like, 91 that we had 60 odd thousand cases in it.
So he's like, yeah, I just don't have the heart Direction.
But but who wants these cars, you know, like and then like, they're not exactly a safe car, they don't exactly know anything special. They just kind of a, they just
kind of a car and I'm just like, I lost on this show would appreciate that, but it's kind of, yeah, it is kind of a shame that, that they're, that they're getting raised.
I mean, he's selling the selling the one, the one to one, he's got that. With a roadie and ready to go,
but the XLE he's like, yeah, I think I'm just gonna I think I'm just gonna wreck it and I was like, it's a shame.
It wasn't, it wasn't really good, Nick, but it got me wondering how many cars will like that.
A half-decent, you know, just just get thrown away and I was reading in New Zealand. They're trying to pushing for
this cleaner missions things, so that they are going to pretty much try get As many combustion cars off the road ASAP which was just announced. So, a lot of good cars that are
nothing wrong with them, are going to meet their demise, which is, you know, kind of a waste.
If you ask me, will ya after see if it's really follows suit?
Which I hid out but but we shall see that sort of reminds me on Top Gear. Many, many years ago they were
talking about, they had Cash for Clunkers with some sort of some sort of a thing over there. In the East, the way for bit of
time. And I, yeah, I don't think we'll
get there because our Fleet overall, in Australia is relatively young. I think the average age is
around 9 years, it seems a lot. But these days cars, last and
last, and last but you're right Maddie, like there's some like in New Zealand obviously with their back in the day import rules and a doctor here, can also appreciate that because you know, our doctors being around, you know, I'm Saying and they have some of the most unique unique, sort of cars because of the import sort of situations back in the day, listen bluebirds, you know, where fan of that particular car on this
podcast and just yeah just like Forest two turbos and just yeah all sorts of awesome. Awesome cars that we never got
here. So I wonder if they're gonna
sort of those cars are gonna end up Being scrapped to make room for, you know, we're more than likely electric cars.
But there's just not the same level of Supply with electric cars, as there was with those near, you know, relatively good condition, Japanese cars that were coming in.
That is true. So I guess it's all supply and
demand and see how many we can get in.
But anyway, German be on tonight's topic, affinities.
Yeah, we have, we're not talking about infinite.
Entities in essence? Yeah.
Failed attempt at coming to Australia for the second time.
We're talking about affinities that we have with with certain cars or brands or or things about cars that we must have.
Now I've got thinking about this the other day because obviously possible, suspect mr. Princeton and he, you know, he's
got a strong Affinity with Honda and, you know, he's just buys and buys Hondas. And that's that's kind of what
he does. And I think he's buying it, you
think he's buying another one or poor going?
It may be a different route, but how did you guys get an affinity Affinity to own the cars that you do that, that you have owned by? It could be Japanese cars.
It could just be like, I really like turbocharged cars, or I really like, you know, Ozzy muscle or whatever it is.
I don't know how you guys came to, like, have an affinity for certain car and, you know, despite knowing its flaws, still wanted to say, you know what, I'm happy to have you to go along with that and and enjoy the ride, if you know what I mean. So, if in these with with cars
that you've owned, Door or if cars, even if you haven't owned but you'd like to like your own one day what makes you like that car? So much that will or range of
cars that would consider make the would help you consider to buy one or two tone. Hmm, the very deep topic that
one very deep and meaningful is how we like to get down on a Tuesday night with car talk. So it's not it's not lost some
of their locations. It's it's a Affinity that
occasions and so am I Maybe you can start off, man, and tell us about your Affinity with the cash card.
You mean the car that I would never own in my life?
Well the Bavarian Motor Works. He's a sucker for pain.
I think that's nothing. That's the ants.
He's a sucker but I never knew what it meant.
Yep. Bavarian Motor Works.
I believe and Edward would know if that's true or not because I get the official name is by Irish motor and verka being German for Bavarian Motor Works, correct.
It was a very agile, the quiz question I think I think it's actually just quickly while I remember, daddy, look what I found do you see what this is? Yep.
Automobiles. Yeah.
Yes. Jesse Young People Like Us can
afford. Yeah, well, I used to have one
identical to that the overt avoid being used to.
Yeah, I just I just booked a course on this whole thing to answer your question of why I like Certain cars as I keep going through missing an X cubed Falcon.
The NX is Toyota, Chaser Magna. All right, M3.
Do I start from the start, or do I just like, everyone?
Why do you like those what? Yeah, why have you got?
Why did you get an affinity to? Let's say, for example, BMW
because you've owned your own A7 series, you've owned now, any 46. Main reason is he's a glutton
for punishment. He is the main reason was is the
Chaser got broken into basically stole it in my eyes and I did something that Didn't draw a crowd as much basically but was still fun to drive. And that's where the M3 came.
Still got power. Yeah, convertible that's fine.
Ends people look at and go up it's just standard 3 Series that they don't understand the difference between them, which is what I liked. And then I'm me and I can't stop
touching cars and you know, it is what it is.
So that's the whole reason I got into those.
I still appreciate Jap cars. Well, I ever owned want to get a
chance. Not a human's.
I don't want another one. Wow, I just might not.
Trusted, I like my German stuff and I will earn more BMWs coming to the Future. What about a nice Mercedes?
Would you ever be tempted? C63 like w204 if they ever get
down here, right? Yes.
But apart from that. Okay?
And one day if I ever get around to it which is probably not going to happen the old land, barges the bar Jays with the pill this Windows hmm chewed or the old Old Mafia mobiles like my coop? Is that what you're talking
about? Current have never seen your
Coop? Well, it's pillarless and it's a
barge, the old like square one? Yeah.
Is it a 12-4? Yeah, they want you for so long?
I don't know. I'm Mercedes but brush up top
then W is where it's at. Are you Scotty now?
You find a fair few, Japanese cars and European cars.
How do you get your Affinity to certain cars like for example to Skyline Coupe? Which I know you better know.
You like quite dearly. How did that come ahead?
It'll happen. Yeah, I've gone through a few
getting hooked on. Skylines is an odd one.
It's Didn't come from movies that didn't come from anything like that. It came from me.
Researching, kind of like, for my first car and the skylines Australia. Forums really is where I really
got hooked on to it. I did tons of reading going
through everything and all the video clips people put up of their cars and going on cruises and it stemmed from there.
Like I just, I wish forums were still huge because they're fantastic. Racism community and so much
information. You get from them compared to
your Facebook groups and stuff. Now it's just forums is was just
amazing back in time. There's always funny characters
that popped up there. You got to laugh of some of the
things they posted up and but there was so much technical information in there if you want to if you want to do.
Being most likely someone had already done it and written about it up on one of the Farms. So there was just stacks of
information where to buy a car from who to deal with what you can do with parts that have worked.
There's a whole section of just best turbos and Dyno charts or put up there up on the Forum. So if you're after a certain
turbo, have a look there, it is donut, right?
How much power Made when it came on Boost just everything.
And that's where I just self taught and learned all my information from and it just drew me into a skylines.
I think you had in stem from Motorsport or anything like that, or, you know, the Fast and Furious crowd.
It just came from me doing my own research and stumbling across it. Remembering some other skylines
that I'd seen seen around, as I was still kind of new to the, to the car, the car Fascination and getting into it.
So it was pretty much just all self learn and then he started watching him small clips and videos and documentaries that I could find And that's when I saw it.
Learn more about the most sport history and all the different models of skylines. And that's what really, really
drew me in, is the more, you know, the more, it kind of just sucks you in and gets you really, really interested.
Absolutely. And that's when I went through
the stages of the four door and then I moved to the to door and then to GTRs Is what I've owned both in white stem me out to other cars is, I've always wanted to always drive as many different cars as possible. Always want to try something
new. So I'd never held on to him for
very long. Because there's always something
else that I might have searched up will seen and gone, who don't know what that would be like to drive.
And then I begin my research again and having a look at the different models and what to look out for and things like that. So it led me into having going
an EVO then it led me into the E46 M3 trap but After owning one and getting to drive it it was still a great experience.
There's still good experience, it's a fantastic engine that's in those M3s anyway so can't go wrong with that.
It was it was good. I'm happy to share my experience
and when it was working it was a fantastic car.
It was great to drive. And then when I wanted to step
back a bit and never owned a V8, I still wanted to stay in the Euro market and went for the c43.
That was a nice kind of cruising but because I couldn't really afford to have two cars and I just wanted that Car.
That handled really well and not just to cruise around in.
That's what got me back into a gdr again.
And then money got it involved. When I went back to Union things
and I still wanted to have a turbocharged car but obviously I didn't have the the funds anymore and led me down to researching and looking at the Liberties and that's how we end up with another one of those. I think it just comes with me,
just doing a whole bunch of research and that's what I really, really love to do. And before I buy another car or
anything, is to just research, Much about them as possible and that's why the Farms were the best for it.
So would you say you've? And then I just hooked.
So you will say you weren't a fiery 21 car.
You'd say you more, you more just wanted to try everything and that's kind of where you sit and not offensive or any but more like a trailer. Yeah, I wanted to have a go at
everything. Real drive cars on forward drive
cars. I wanted to try what, you know,
straight-6 is like V8 that way when people are talking about them. I've got that bit bit of an
understanding as to what they're talking about, I'm not going.
Oh, geez, I wish I'd tried one of those.
I wonder what it really would be, like I can actually do that.
So you know if someone's like a have you ever owned it eurocar that the best I can actually say?
Yeah, I have and joining their conversation, Japanese cars I can say the same thing. Obviously, I haven't really
owned Australian cars and things like that.
I've driven him being around them, don't really have a massive ambition. To to Really own one.
I came close. With the typhoon and things like
that but I just felt like it was just still too much of a big vehicle. I just like the smaller four
doors cars that came from Japan and Europe.
So you had like your smaller 55 series.
It wasn't really a big four-door car like like the Fords and Holden's, I just feel like that smaller Small size that they came in, but look, I will admit, I still do have a massive soft spot and affinity for for skylines, if I could own one, again, other than the r31 that I've got now, I'd be all over it. It's interesting.
If you had to go back to like if you had to buy one of the cars again besides the skyline because we know you got the Affinity to their, what would that one copy you had to choose one out of all the cars. All because of you had to choose
one. Yep, yep.
With it and enjoy it. And it can't be a Skyline Tobias
column. I think you could even be a
limited, you could even be the call you going down, and I would be totally understandable. Hmm.
Well, since I can actually have own two cars side.
You know I can always have that project car.
I'd probably lean towards the sea 43 AMG, that thing was built nicely. I don't really see much going
wrong with it. If fairly bulletproof bit of a
tank, just fantastic art to daily and you could comfortably take it to some car shows and just enjoy it.
And those kind of ways, it would be great for longer dries and things like that. And then, if I wanted to do
something a bit more sporty out, You know, I take out my project car or something like that. That's the kind of balance that
I kind of wanted, but obviously, you just don't have the funds but, you know, if I could and go back.
Yeah, probably lean towards that close with the Evo, but like, I don't think I could live with just driving an EVO, all day every day. Remember, when you, when you
have that c-43, you always said that it was, it was a great car.
You never had an issue with that.
You said it was such a just tight, strong guy and And it had a lovely V8. And I mean, it's had that same
VA and he never had an issue with it.
It was just a real good engine Ikeda crank angle and all the spark plugs. Yeah.
There's a lot of. Yeah.
Yeah. Other than that the interior was
nice at held up really, really well.
I guess if I still had it would be definitely getting on in case I think when I had it had about 100 and Shivers account member 100. 1516 maybe that's they'll do case absolutely a great
engine but yeah, it would probably just keep munching through I'd say be fine. I think parts.
Would be as expensive as m 3 Parts.
No, I don't think so because it's just kind of still based on a w202. Anyway, just, it was just a
great guy. But yeah, I love the look of a
two-out you. If, if someone said look as a
daily, you've got to go and drive a Mercedes.
I go for it to I 2. I love the shape, yeah, really.
Elect a lot into the ear of the quality benz's.
Little bit about that edge, I still got the B2 A2 c43, badge it off. How much, how much would that be
worth you reckon a little bit whole thing.
The whole assembly, don't think we've talked about this that, you know, before it's some stage, but the cars that I've chased down, have all had an effect on me when I was much younger, whether it was my friends, having one, my friends parents having one, my Having one my aunt and uncle having one Whatever, Whatever connection there was when you when I was a kid, if I was exposed to something as a kid, I certainly have had a finity for it later and I've I've sort of chased, subconsciously, even I've chased down those cars.
The whole reason I have three red nose is because my parents friends had a red old Renault 16 when I was a kid and I would see it a few times a year and fascinated me, my Grandma.
Had the mini that I Alone. So, you know that that's been
there since day one, you know, the the benzes, you know, we didn't have bends as a family, but family, friends did.
And so I had a very yeah, I was I traveled in a me on weekends.
We go into their house. You go out somewhere, you go in
the bins and those cars just had an effect on me.
So hence I'm chasing down everything that I yeah I was ever exposed to as a kid. I suppose the one the one
difference to that all the one The bit of my collection that is a bit different to that are the Honda's are wasn't exposed to Honda City zorander, scamp's or anything Honda when I was a kid but that brand earned my respect over the years just from people.
Yeah, you'd see people in Hondas and you just, as I was older, sort of probably my 20s and 30s. You were dumb.
Yeah, you would never, you know, I can honestly say I don't think I've ever met at Honda owner that wasn't relatively happy with their car. You know, there's they may not
have kept it that long for whatever reason or they may have, you know, but they never had issues with them.
You know. You meet a Honda and a, how is
your Honda by and large? They'll say yeah, it was great.
You know, I really like my Honda, you know, you can't say that about too many Brands and yeah, I suppose it was the Somehow the Honda's out of all the Japanese makes with the most interesting to me because they were bit of an engineering e company. They were involved in Formula
One. They, they kind of made they
made cars the punched above their weight, like at the simple. Civic was just so good to drive
and such an economical and fun little Lively car that, you know, in a way that a base Mitsubishi or a base, mesda wasn't quite the same. And I really do joined the Honda
Classic Car Club because of the, I had a Civic at the time and I needed it to put on Club Bridge. You know, the flat back 80s,
Civic. And I thought, I yell join the
Honda Club 35 bucks a year. Why not?
So, I did that. And, and then you meet all the
nice Honda people and then you are, you know, go down the rabbit hole of owning, some of those.
But yeah, I really that's a brand that probably earned my respect later on when I, when I wasn't a kid so much.
Funny, you say that because I got a lot of people have that Affinity because if like, you know, their families had them, if they apparently had whatever car was and or they've had a few of them in a good rather than they've been they'd be like, yeah, I'm a Toyota go because I just keep on doing it is because they all they just work and that, you know, I can go to work and I notice if we get up in the morning, also turn the key.
It will start. You know, I come, I'm not
worried about that. And people as like, do I think
the main point of tiles wanted to explain was people get their affinities in many different ways like you like fries, a you You had didn't get a Honda Affinity till later on, you know, and tell you. Tell them, tell them.
You did that shitbox rally in that City and yeah, that, you know, doing that really cemented my love of the city, you know, that there's nothing like 8,000 cases in a week to kind of make you love or hate a car and I came at the end of that going.
Damn, that's a good machine, you know, there's a very well-thought-out little little machine.
And, and it's now that, you know, people look, I was at the like the other night and a guy puts his window down.
The 3-Series, and if you got the scooter that goes in the back, you know, and I said I don't but friends of mine, do you know?
So it's it's a car that now gets great accolades but for a long time, it was just a cheap little shitty, Japanese hatch to motor.
Most people, you know, to those who weren't in the know.
Yeah but now that I think back, you know, family friends of ours did have an Accord sedan in the 80s.
They had a 5 series E28 was a husband's car and the Accord, sedan was the worst car. And I remember going in that
Court a few times thinking. Jesus velour upholstery is
really nice and it was so quiet, the doors, had a nice sort of think to them. And I remember just thinking it
was a really refined card. This is an 83 Accord which is
not a particularly refined car by today's standards but compared to the other trash around the 80s that was and so I suppose, all those things did have an effect at some level.
We think Honda Honda cement to themselves in my mind as being good. Quality cars well-engineered,
good quality, Japanese cars. Rather than say a Nissan
Bluebird, that was shoved together, pretty badly by and large. I guess that's all the cars that
are sort of wanted. After I got my license, I could
not afford sort of a similar sort of position to Scott.
Even, you know, look at some of the, some of the cars that you can possibly by. So I ended up with a motorbike
instead of a Supra. So it was a new bike and didn't
really We have an affinity with the particular brand as such, but like, Scotty are really wanted an evil wanted to wanted a Supra skylines all the rest of it, but obviously, being a broke boy found, afford any of them and then sort of, you know, when I was at Uni, some Porsche had just launched their 98.
Inspired our they were talking about and they were saying that that car is going to be you know 0 to 100 and like 3.6 seconds or
something like that. This is only like in 2012 when
they launch that and I was like geez if I could even get anywhere close to that car in terms of the speed or even get into a passenger seat with something like that, that would be amazing. Like my life dream would come
true. And then, you know, many years
later, somebody said to me, hey, you don't know anything about Tesla book, a test drive. They won't sell you on anything,
so I did. And that was the first day of
Maddie and I went to Tesla and Richmond and got a chance to test drive a Model S. It was different at that time.
And then yeah, couple of years later just by accident ended up with the car that I have and yeah, faster than the Porsche 918. In Sparta just anything and
everything. Just to such a technologically
advanced piece of machine in terms of how sophisticated it is. And it works like, you know,
it's computers which I've always loved and the acceleration that you can't get out of it. Pretty much any petrol cow and
yeah, just just the Affinity with that brand, but I think it all really started in long long time ago when I was in.
At school and the teacher put on what was what?
Documentary, but Nikola Tesla. And, and the he said it, they
invented he invented electricity or alternating current, and I was like, well, nobody ever talks about him and it will go out electricity. People always talk about Thomas
Edison and all the rest of it and use a bit of an underdog.
And then this brand appeared, and I was like, I remember watching something about this. Tesla person didn't know was
Elon Musk or whatever that's Audited.
But yeah, just that Affinity through an underdog that was never taken seriously. But what he invented we all use
it every day and someone else got the credit for what he did.
And then when this brand came out went for, you know test drive with Maddie and accidentally ended up with this and I don't think I would go back to another brand when it comes to what this, what they offer and just the car getting better every couple of months. So that's just the long long
spiel of my Affinity with with Tesla.
Yeah, I absolutely respect that. And can I can see that because
they've been pretty Flawless, you know, just keep it going.
It's like a religion for you Izzie.
It is, it is the most people Tessa, is like a religion, bit like a half. It's the cult of Elon Musk has
pray to the altar, give you first fall in, all right?
This is just before you start. I do have to head off.
That's a good night. It was good talking with you
guys. Oh yeah Adrian yeah.
I'll will probably be back next week because it's not.
Yeah, it really Pop, I see Adrienne.
Yeah, JDM for life. That's what I want to say.
I definitely think it's it's a nurturing aspect.
What's like it said? What It was around when you're
young, kind of things. You saw.
For me at least everyone's experience is obviously different and just I just started thinking back to all the cars. We don't and so much.
It's just Japanese Japanese Japanese like, you know, the Mitsubishi Sigma and then, you know, it was the day we had the Pajero for one day or one night, I should say, the Honda in the garage, the Honda Civic shuttle then my uncle's Honda Civic what has ties to terrorists. Carola Mazda 323 Suzuki SX4.
Yeah. Well then there's the one, you
know, that would be the old blue Camry.
Then there's the Ford Falcon. And then, you know, far from
that the directs, the STI, the MX-5?
Yeah, it's a lot of Japanese. And it, like, especially from
the olden days, it was very much, a New Zealand being a country that didn't produce their own cars.
Had a very open import markets, they still do a very open input pocket and it was so easy to get, you know, cars that had the steering wheel in the correct position from Japan doing a readily, and it's cheap and healthy Supply.
And it's kind of, I think it's very much influence the car culture over New Zealand. When you consider it, you know,
it is. It's just the thing to have and
weirdly enough even these days, like it's not just obviously Japanese Vehicles. It's also just like people
getting our diesel stuff from Japan, just because again bringing them in over from overseas.
Two ends up being cheaper than buying from a dealer, so that definitely, I think having influence.
And then, you know, just games as well.
And family members like my uncle with his Legacy GT or the twin turbo, you know, seeing that same blah, whatever X is on the road, that sort of thing that like, at least from the bucolic Evo / never x side of the fight, you know, I've been on the Subaru side, but I'm not opposed to actually owning I think like Scott. I've also, Matured over time to
think getting my button, two different cars and getting to experience a wide variety of things is probably one of the better ways to live my life as a car guy, which is why I'd like I try to look at that either final audition but I didn't get a response and time and it sold out from under me.
But more recently. I'm like I said, I'm looking at
the golf gti's, it may not be the smartest purchase, but like I said, if it's not the only means of conveyance in the household, it doesn't matter if the car is let's just say You are active at the repair shop for a little long if it needs to be. So yeah, gate.
Again getting the experience with different cars because my experience is primarily being Japanese with a little bit of little bit of forward. Yeah, I wouldn't mind you know
traveling a bit of European stuff here and there be unfortunately I think the era of trying Australian cars has kind of ended it's just going to be experienced from like you know, maybe I might give a going your ex alright Medi you know something like that but you know all driving the F6.
That sort of thing. Yeah.
Like again the reason why I gave so much thought to possibly buying a challenger after graduating, even though it be a fiscally terribly irresponsible purchase.
So you know it'll be the coolest kind of have like Noah's got another like it like a purple one you know like a purple Challenger to throw around just it would be very unique American Muscle, you know, totally Awful given how much better across these days. But it's, it would be something
different. And if we another, I guess
another facet of life, I can explore order in here in the oven automobile industry and even electric as well, like really like really, Ross is gone, I definitely see that there will be an electric car in the cards for the household will say it's for Mom, but we'll drive it around.
And you know, I think that's a really lovely way of looking at.
It is about like different things and And different cars and and you get any respect for certain things that you drive and things that you experience and, you know, I must have same, you know, like every time I draws me, I really like I'm like, wow, that was actually really cool and you got to respect for it. And then you kind of you kind of
build a little bit of a bond and then you go down a rabbit hole and build an affinity. So like my ridiculous affinity
for 124's is based upon my shitty one to pour a bit because I know how much of a great car that they actually are and however, engineer. They are and and you know, like
I still think that they, if not the best engineered car, one of the best engineer cars ever made.
You know, and I wouldn't say that about many other cars, you know, but, like, you sleeping in their car, in comparison to other things in the 80s, but it would have just been right and day in terms of quality and still is today, like you close the door and our car. And you're like, wow, you hit
that Thumbkin and you and, you know, you're going to your in a proper, you know, a proper vehicle.
Funny like it come, it comes in many different ways and and, you know, like whether it be from family members or things that you've seen, but for me, a little over was from was from family members, you know? And and you know, liking Fords
and Toyotas, in particular, were big family, family things because my uncle's were mechanics are Ford.
And and we're like, you know, they had they had, you know, always cool cool for words and but then they always had Toyota's as As there are, you know, like the full drive, the Hilux has and stuff to get in their languages, to go off-road.
And, and then, they would always say, yet can't go wrong with a Hilux Toyota. Toyota, Toyota, Toyota, I guess
it's kind of where I build my Affinity flight Camrys and things because like, because like, yeah, they're an appliance. But God, they're a good car like
they just work and and, you know, if you want, if you want something like that would do just works that, you know, like I haven't, I always hate by a camera, you know.
Like I know I got a just bought one recently because he's like, I want something. I want a reliable car.
And it was like, I don't really have an affinity to a brand, but I kind of like, kind of want something and I'm like, well, go for a camera because if you if you want something that's easier to drive and easier to maintain and keep on fuel and everything else, can we? It is and he's like, yep.
That's what it isn't. And that's what he's in now.
So, but yeah, like for me, like the reason why I like small forwards in particular is because like my uncle had escorts and stuff for a few years, you know.
And and and you know, I yes I did like a VA but I was always like like hummus Of small year or two later performance.
If you don't like, the things that are fun and nippy and like to get around corners, and I guess it's kind of reason why I like the MR2 so much because, because it's essentially, is that, like, it's a car, you can see it in, and it just, and it's driving. As you would say, it is, it's
more of a visceral experience. And like, you don't get that
with a lot of cars these days. But, but yeah, getting getting
your head around, drawing all different things.
As I think, you know, I think a great thing and if anyone if anyone throws me the keys to World Tour, Anything.
I'll be like, yeah, I'll give it a go like, you know, I'll see what I see what it's like. And they're always really much
of a Subaru fan or or you know, Mercedes fan in general until I until I got to experience experience earlier and said you know I would say you know what yeah I don't know.
Another Subaru I'd love one again I would happily take another Forester or WRX or or whatever it is if if I could.
So yeah, I guess I guess I've been I've built my affinities more The actual experiences of having them around me and and driving them and getting a new respect for him.
Because if it's almost at somebody, I have an affinity for a forest Idol, would have laughed at him about five years ago or something. Let's get the hell out of here.
But after driving, I can see why people like them.
And I can see why they are where they're cracking car.
And yeah, I would absolutely do it again.
It's funny what Scotty said before about, you know, research research research. Then you go choose what you
want. I've often with stuff I've
bought. I've often done the opposite
like well like that. Buy it and then and then and
then I jumped down all the road test in the Articles to support my decision as to war. Why, it's a good car or not?
Now that I'm almost like, Scotty on that research, the crap out of out of anything before before I buy it, like like the typhoon.
Like I remember, I remember when I, when I got that I was choosing your seven-year-old when the car came out.
I was just, I was reading magazines that were coming, word motor and, and wheels back to front up and down.
Sighs, whatever was just to get every bit of information.
Like what about anything from any, right?
That's why I think Cosmonaut. He's I can I can reel of all
that's a 1.8 turbo, or that's a 1.5, you know, whatever it is.
Like, I've got that ingrained in my head because I just, I just know that I and I read in my, I did so much research before before knowing anything about it.
So yeah, it's, I guess it's everyone's got their own kind of way of getting that Affinity, but I guess my family would lasers because I, you know, I grew up with them and it was, you know, it was the only car we could have thought for a moment.
My mom at the time and hence, you know, we got her a laser and now I still own one. So yeah.
Interesting how that goes. Rizz.
You showed us a super in the in the chat.
That's a beautiful car. It's converted from an auto but
it's yeah, the quality of cars as our resident.
Doctor was saying across the ditcher.
Yeah. Just you know it could be our
plan holiday very And read these cars.
And we get to drive them because you probably won't get to drive them here. Yeah.
Correct. If there if there is such a
service that exist where you can rent the JDM cause for you know, couple of days and you know, taken from sort of top of the country for top of North Island to the to the South and back up, I don't know. Maybe somebody that we could, we
could think about well-known Americans have got to row, which you can people, people put up their cars and you can like, rent WRX has and all sorts of things.
And so I think that's a That's a really cool way of doing things.
Where is you've got to go? I do thank Steve so having me on
Peeps. And yeah, look forward to look
forward to next time. See you again, too soon.
Is it time for the quiz? It is time for the quiz.
Got Cody is the quizmaster today keeping score my Matty.
I've just got to ready your eye to go.
Thank you very much. So come Who am I couple bonus?
Questions little bit of this, a little bit of that couple Motorsport questions. Couple European cars to since
not, all JDM. I tried to keep it out there for
everybody. Hmm, okay, let's get straight
into it question. Number one, what is the world's
all-time best-selling car? If you had just gone in?
I think it is the the pop-up. But Toyota Corolla, yes, it is a
Toyota. Corolla, what was God's way that
was so close to mount us a co-ed first before I heard you.
I heard that. All right.
Question number two, who was a driver for Alfa Romeo before founding his own company? Well, Matthew Matthew would be
Enzo. Ferrari.
Yes, Mmm. Good work.
Question number 3, which iconic car has appeared in seven Bond films making its debut in this ad.
Aston Martin DB5? Yes, took your time head.
Cheese it right? Not the forwards not the six has
got to be the five. Yeah it was about to say making
its debut in the 1960 gold finger.
Yes I have a bonus question. Link to this one.
Hmm. What type and size of engine
came in the DB5 Matthew It's a straight six.
Yes. Mmm, what sighs why doesn't
engine is Can I answer is it? It's all right.
It's not a fully That Jag did 44.1 L.
Is it a three and a half later? Puh-pow took a half a point for
six. We got the point.
If someone can grab the other half it head I thought it was a for later. Yes, it was.
Oh no. Damn it.
I'll get killed today. I was trying to not make a face
when you said I didn't think it's not for me.
Like, I don't That would be that's Jagged have to pass to be smaller but now I'm I stuffed up.
Yeah, mmm 2.5 stuff on 1.5 Alum. Yet the school last week's
reigning champ. I'm working on it.
I'm working. The big quiz reigning champ.
You don't want it. Oh, question for this.
I might be a bit trickier. I'm not sure.
We might know about this car. Who am I?
My production started in 1971 to 1990 to, with a total of 7260 produced. I am a mid-engine sports car
that came as a two-door and a two-door Target time.
I came with it. Don't think I've got it, right?
I was gonna say, Porsche Porsche 911, but they would have sold a lot more than that. I'm out.
I'm out. I came with a v.
Eights Ford V8 through my life, from the 302 Windsor up to the 351. Cleveland wins are very Matthew.
There'll be a d Tomaso Pantera. Yeah, got it.
Whoa. Nice one man.
As I'm sure I have any people might get that one.
Yeah, it's pretty looks like very limited production 7000 and yeah, between 71 and 92 and that's all they may say.
They're actually a really good-looking car.
Are they look absolutely fantastic and they say, A sale murder under under load. They said so good.
Yeah, next question was going to be.
I am Italian and produced by De Tomaso automobile up until next part and Tara. All right, question 5.
Okay. Now, this one before I get into
it, is what year? It came out in its country.
Okay, I'll make sense when I say it.
Okay, what year did? First, Integra Type R.
Come out. Matthew Yeah, Matthew t22 is
like officially sold in Australia or sold rich country.
Arjun said Japan. Okay I'm gonna say 1995 95.
Oh wow. Nailed it.
Oh yes, ready. Just to stepping in me too well.
I'm like, I'm sure they got it earlier because it was before the EK and as I continue anyway. Yeah, I was like, I had to be
95. This is all right, I got a Bonus
question. Link to this one.
What engine did it come with Matthew Maddie, very 18.
V18 10 be 18. Geez, be 18 80 about it.
Ed be 18b bye-bye. Now let's just go through the
alphabet. Come on, come on.
Ellen b18c. Correct.
Alright question 6. What size engine does?
The AMG Hammer come with it. You will head.
That is a half. 5.5 Alum 6 L correct.
Yes it was huge huge for the time as I said to you guys, that was the last week we got a fully loaded habit was to tip was to testarossa's. This is yeah, that's insane.
This stupid money. Buddy, cooler cooler than a
Testarossa. So much cooler.
No, you're not wrong. Alright, question 8, AMC
produced a vehicle named after a mythical creature.
What was the car called Matthew that with you?
You the gremlin? Yes, AMC Gremlin.
Nice. I was waiting for a Pacer
related question and like not it's, it's, I was thinking Javelin, Mac the door, you know, like that sort of stuff.
Yeah, the javelins were pretty cool.
They were cool like that. Yeah.
All right. This one would have been good
for Adrian, but he's already One eye and I skip the question.
Oh, I went dry skips question 7. I'll go back to costume on my
goodness. He's like stuff really well.
It's okay, we can become an impasse.
Cut me some slack. She's alright, let's jump up to
question. Seven before I go and do
question 9 what years did the R32 GTR win?
Bathurst Matthew Matthew cheese 1990 and 91.
Bye-bye. Now, Ed 91-92.
Bing bing bing correct. Matt Matt if I'd gone first I
would have said exactly what you said.
Yeah, all right, go to school, still anybody's game.
Well not anybody's anybody except Talons.
And here's a bonus question, connected to this so U2 J TR Malthus and At the best you can. The bonus question is, what
caused a controversy in the 1992 Bathurst win with the R32 GT-R?
Matthew I believe it was because it was raining.
They had all Drive. They were just able to stay on
the road. Will everybody else like fluent
into trees and shit? And then they kept going and
then and then what's it called? Jim Richards was like your
packet assholes or something at the end of the race.
I think that's the truth. I'm not too sure.
Fortunately bump ow. Correct about all the wine and
everything. Yeah.
Ed Ed. The controversy was surrounding
fact that the R32 GT-R, had a limited slip differential.
It was helping it. Wow, I didn't think that was
right. Oh, what was I at least on the
right track. This is burning me out.
You kinda getting. There's got to do with the rain
and everything and crashing. But yeah, I can't really give
away much more alum for you. I'm talking to have fun with the
rain. Why the race ended up finishing
is what I'll say. So, Ben have finished, was the
race ended early bit more to that, and because the scars were in front, they won, even though they could have been overtaken out of there was the race ended under the safety car or whatever, know you kind of getting there but just not right on the point. So what it was, is rain started
I'm down, really, really heavy cars crashing everywhere.
They'll still believe, even the 32 gdr crashed out and can continue then they called a little bit after a red flag, and the gdr one because they took it, they took the lap back.
So it wasn't in front at the time when they called the Red Flag so everyone were pretty angry because they're like, hang on the 32 gdr crashed out but they took a lap back from when they pass. All right, so it won it.
One back then in rewind. It one.
Yes. Yes they re wound up back and
said we'll take it from this point.
The leaders from that point that's why I pretty much got a lot of booze and stuff because I like, Well, that sounds fair they crashed out. Ahh blah blah blah.
Hmm. Yeah, because it was that and I
remember, they were racing re still being group living group, a v ends, and Sierra, Cosworth sand beam.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what angered them quite a bit?
Hmm. Alrighty.
Now I can actually do question nine, hmm, which this one would have been good for a Dream. Which car won the 2022.
Bathurst 12-hour race. Don't even God.
Not the same just the car to. Was it a Porsche?
Oh no. Papa choices.
Was it? Macelli spins?
Yes, it was is mercedes-amg. Yeah.
Salim. Very nice.
They got first and second dying and then all the Aldi's as he said, Howdy's surprising. If my last one question 10 is a,
who am I finishing? Its strong.
Let's see how we go. Who am I?
I was manufactured between 1962 and finished in 1980.
I am a British sports car designed by Giovanni.
Make a lot E. I came in a convertible and a
road start version. Alum.
It's some kind of an mg. Wow.
I came in a few versions of different Motors.
I came in a originally came in a 1.2 and then I came in a 1.3
Matthew and I can't wait. Matthew Triumph Spitfire.
Yeah. Laughter 1.5.
They pretty much as they always do.
Hmm, my last bit, was gonna be. I was named after a famous WWII
fighter plane, that would have given a good work.
Oh, she caught fire late 2003. I thought they're always had a
1.5. Now, the Earth like early, real
early ones had like tiny engines.
Mmm, Yeah, really cool color. Well, I think looking at oh they
are. Yeah they look great British
were on point during then. Yeah.
Is clear for them was a and one of those like a later one in British racing green is like pornography That is scorching.
Join lm3, Ed, three and a half and myself on seven.
No not 7, 5 5 .5, thank you gentleman.
