A battery in a car is like a big rechargeable battery that helps start the engine and run things like lights and radio. If it's dead, the car won't start at all.
A used car is one that someone else has owned before you. It's usually cheaper than a new car, but you need to check it carefully to make sure it's still in good shape.
An oxygen sensor is a part of the car that checks how much oxygen is in the exhaust. It helps the engine run better and cleaner by making sure the right amount of fuel is used.
The Chevrolet S-10 Blazer is a smaller SUV that can carry people and gear, making it great for families or adventures. It was made for over 20 years, so many people have memories of driving them, and they are often talked about for their mix of style and usefulness.
An electric transfer case is a part of some trucks that helps them switch between using two wheels or four wheels for better traction. It can be controlled with a button instead of a lever.
Vacuum hubs are parts in some trucks that help connect the front wheels to the engine when you need four-wheel drive. They use vacuum power to do this, making it easier to switch modes.
Vacuum lines are tubes that carry air pressure around the car to help different parts work. They are important for things like brakes and controlling emissions.
Transmission fluid is a special liquid that helps the car's automatic transmission work properly. It keeps the parts cool and helps the car change gears smoothly.
U joints are parts that help connect different parts of a car's power system, allowing them to move together smoothly. They are important for making sure the car can drive properly, especially in four-wheel drive vehicles.
The Chevrolet Colorado is a type of truck that is smaller than full-size pickups but still offers good cargo space and towing capacity. The 2015 version has different engine options and is popular for both work and personal use.
The mass airflow sensor is a part that checks how much air is going into the engine. This helps the engine know how much fuel to use for the best performance.
The air-fuel mixture is how much air and fuel are mixed together before going into the engine. Getting this mix right is important for the engine to run well and not pollute too much.

Good afternoon and welcome to the car show, I'm Dane Donnan, taking all of your car questions
to the number to call 513749, a $5500, that number again, 513749, a $5500, it's a glorious
beautiful 60 degree Saturday, now online.
People always have car problems, in fact, yesterday, I was late for work because I had
left early, and my wife said, my car won't start, battery is dead as a doornail.
And of course, we just bought the car maybe like six months ago, but I mean, I did everything,
I had it, it was used, it wasn't brand new, but I had it inspected and whatnot, or I shouldn't
say I had it inspected, I inspected the vehicle, and the battery tested fine then, and there
was absolutely no indications, no indications at all, I wasn't cranking slow or anything,
she just, I mean, it was dead as a doornail, she drove it Thursday night, my oldest son
had baseball practice, she dropped him off, I picked him up, she made dinner in the morning,
nothing was left on, no doors were open, no lights left on, nothing, it was, and when
I, so I ended up taking the boys to school, like I said, this is, it even happens to me,
I do it every day, and that's the thing is like, going back to batteries, batteries have
a typical shelf life of a battery, I shouldn't say shelf life, the average life of a battery
in this region is about three to four years, that's about it, and so now's the time to
get them tested, because again, the other thing that can be frustrating is I can test
your battery today and it be dead as a doornail tomorrow, that is a possibility, now, most
of the time though, I can test that battery, and at Donovan's, at all of our locations
we'll test them for free, and give you honest opinion on whether or not you need one, okay,
I mean I can test the battery today and it be bad, and it lasts you for six more months
a year, I mean that's a possibility, or I can test the day, test good, and tomorrow is dead
as a doornail, I mean when I went to, went home to jump my wife's vehicle, it only had
3.2 volts, that was it, for those of you out there, the average battery's gotta be 12 volts,
and it was at 3.2, and there was nothing left on, so I mean it happens, but you know,
think about that, I mean that's something that we don't think about, and a lot of people think
that, you know, batteries are supposed to last, you know, five, eight, ten years, no,
three to four years in this region, that's about it, so get them tested, in fact it's funny,
I do have some exciting news as well, but one of my employees as well, I called him, I said,
hey listen, I'm gonna be late, I had to take my kids to school, I said my wife's car wouldn't
start, so I had to take him to school, and he goes, well my Jeep wouldn't start, either my battery was
dead, so, you know, to have two employees at the same location that have, can't get their car
started, because they have battery issues is a bit ironic, so about three weeks ago, I kind of
put it out there that I had some kind of big news, and maybe if you were listening right at the
beginning of the show, some exciting news, so we have extended the Donovan, well I shouldn't say
empire, but Donovan franchise family business, and recently purchased a, another business,
another location, okay, so gives you more options when you need car repair, so it is at, it was a
for, it was a repair shop that had been in business for 34 years, and the gentleman that was, that
owned it, was ready to retire, and I caught wind of it, and kind of jumped at the opportunity to
take it over, and they have a great customer base, great employees, and like I said, I jumped at the,
but there was things that we had to jump through as far as let it get, you know, all the legal stuff,
or whatnot, but exciting news, and ready to announce that we have again extended the Donovan
empire, and have a new location, it is, it was formerly auto foreign, okay, for those of you
familiar with the, kind of downtown, Norwood area, it's at the corner, it's at 3700 Montgomery Road,
at the corner of Montgomery Road and Dana, okay, right across the street from Xavier University,
okay, again it was formerly auto foreign, and we will, we will continue to take care of their
customer base, and foreign cars, and extremely excited, and we opened up the doors Monday,
as the, you know, basically as Donovans, you know, but excited, so if you're in that area,
if you're in the Montgomery Road, Dana, Norwood area, again we have opened up another location
to help you with all of your car needs, anything that you need for your vehicle,
in that area we can take care of you, or any locations, again we have the Ridge Road location,
Pleasant Ridge location, and the Blue Ash location, so exciting news, if you need any more information,
as far as the number, address, or anything like that, you can just go to DonovanTire.com,
and it will have all of our hours, operations, location, our story, you can even schedule an
appointment from our website as well, so exciting news, and if anybody's in that area,
any type of car repair, I will be there Monday through Friday to take care of all of your car
needs for quite some time, until I can get acclimated to the customer base, and the, and
really excited to hit the road running, right, and get things going, and ramped up, like I said,
it was an existing business for 34 years, and the owner was looking to retire, and took over,
and excited, so it's been, it's been, this week was a whirlwind, it was, it was great,
a little bit of a slow start, right, because we're getting amped back up again, because there was
some time that the doors were closed, until we could get everything changed over, so really excited,
so the number there is 513-731-8989, that number again, 513-731-8989, and either
I or Mike will be happy to take care of your phone calls, and get you scheduled if you need
any type of work, so really excited, so all right, again the number to call, 513-749-5500,
that number again, 513-749-5500, coming up, we've got, coming up, we've got Andrew,
John, and Ellen, you're listening to the car show, on 55KRC, the talk station.
This is 55KRC, an iHeart radio station.

You're listening to the car show on 55KRC. Taking your car questions real quick. I want to get to
the phones because we're going to run out of time here. Let's go to Opie. Opie, welcome to the car
show. How can I help? Oh, doing good. Before we get to my S10 here, you was talking about
batteries earlier. I had a battery in my 32 Ford and I didn't keep a tender on it or nothing,
so it would sit from like October until April, and then I'd just charge it up and go down the
road. And I bought it at advanced and it was their cheaper battery and it only lasted me 14 years.
Jesus. Wow. 14 years. I took it back in and I said, I can't believe why this,
I can't believe this thing's bad. And they looked at the date code on, they said,
you realize this battery is almost 15 years old? Advanced, they gave me a battery.
Justin, just in the fact that, just in all because it lasted almost 15 years, that's,
that is impressive. I mean, the longest battery I've ever seen was a Motorcraft and it was in a
Ford Ranger and it was 11 years old, but I've never heard a 14 years old. That's impressive.
And I normally run Exside batteries and everything. The only reason I bought that was
because I was in Indiana on a Saturday night and advanced was the only thing open.
I needed one because the other battery had dropped a cell and it only lasted 14 and a half years.
Jesus. And I just had, I just had put batteries plural in my wife's F-250 that was four years old.
Yeah. They don't, they don't build anything with quality anymore.
You got put two of them. Yep. I can't, yeah. Don't give me on that soap box. I get so frustrated
with the worksmanship and the quality in cars today. It's just, I mean, I'm sure you heard
earlier. I mean, the gentleman, he's got a 2020, you know, Hyundai with 35,000 miles and it's on
his third transmission. I mean, come on, you know, I put 300,000 miles on my 32 Ford. I'm only on a
second transmission. I, you know, it's just, uh, just they don't make anything with quality anymore.
That's why I tell people, like, I know I'm in the business to fix huge cars, but I mean,
keep what you've got because it's just, uh, it's just, uh, it's just garbage out there. So what can
I help you with? All right. I just picked me up a brand new used S 10 four-wheel drive and, uh,
what, what, what got it going was, um, I had a code for the, for the, uh, bank one oxygen
sensor and I had it over where my daughter, my daughter works, changing oil. We had it up on the
rack and, um, the pig tail for the oxygen sensor was laying up against the drive shaft. I took it
and it, you know, it was a drive on, that was a drive on four post rack. So I ordered oxygen
sensor. I took it over my mother buddy's place. He's got a two post lift where we get the wheels
up off the ground. We got it up. We changed the oxygen sensor and I want to check, make sure the
four-wheel drive is working and started up in the front drive shaft was spinning and then
we hit the four-wheel drive, then it engaged the front differential and this has got that stupid
push button four-wheel drive instead of a handle in the floor. I don't like the push button, but
I wanted to drive truck and it was a good deal. So, so on these, because my, I had a ZR2
and it had to handle in the floor and that drive and it didn't lock the front drive shaft in until
you pulled the handle. Right. So, so, and I know these electrolyte, they're vacuum over electric
and it's a really stupid design. It's a stupid, it's a stupid design. Yeah. But, but the front
differential does engage, which that's a big problem on these, this is number 19 for S10s that
I've had over the years. I love these trucks. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. 19, between S10s and S10 Blazers,
between me and my wife and my daughter, we've had 19 of them. Jesus. So, like 19 like all, like 19
total or like 19 throughout the course of your life? Yeah. Yeah. We've had 19 S10s in five years.
Okay. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. I love them. So, I mean, is that, on these, on the, the electric transfer
case, is that front drive shaft supposed to spin all the time? Oh, man. The newer Jeeps,
the front drive shaft spins all the time until you pull the handle and it uses vacuum and locks
in the front hubs. Right. So, I didn't know if this S10 was the same way. You know what? I don't,
I, I do know that, yeah, like, like, I have an F115, that's the way mine is, is when I push that
button, it activates the vacuum and that's what kicks in the, the vacuum hubs. But on an O2,
it's an O2 S10, right? Yep. Let me, I don't know for sure. I, I, I want to say yes. I think that's
how they operate because it's got that stupid vacuum system and the vacuum system is, it's,
the vacuum system itself is below the battery on the passenger side and sometimes. Well,
this has got, this thing, it's got a big module on the, on the bottom of the front differential.
Yeah.
This doesn't have the bell with the cable. This has got the deal where it's right, right on the
different, on the bottom of the front diff. Then I would, I would say yes. And that's probably how
it operates. But are there, are there vacuum lines going to that module at all? Yeah. It's just all,
normal. That should how, that should be how it operates. And I know that there's some type of
vacuum, there's some type of vacuum, you know, what do you want to call it? Vacuum bank or whatever
that I, that sometimes will fill, fill up with transmission fluid and whatnot. It's below the
battery and let me find out. I don't know off the top of my head. I will, I'll look into that.
And I just, I just wanted to make sure because that, you know, if that front drive shaft ain't
supposed to be spinning, then that's put next to wear and tear on my front U joints.
And probably using more gas as well. And he, and he can get gas mileage. But like I said,
my Jeep guy, he didn't know about, he didn't know about chivalres. He works on Jeeps and he said
the Jeep, the Jeeps, the transfer case, the transfer case basically stays locked in four
wheel drive all the time until it locks the front differential in and locks the hubs in.
Yeah. Yeah, I don't, I want to say that the way it's operating, yes, it doesn't, it stays in
four wheel drive, but then once you put it in four wheel drive and engages that front differential,
I want to say that's right. Okay. I think that's normal, but I'll find out and then you call me
back. Well, fortunately next Saturday, something's going on and I'm not able to do this.
I won't be able to call you next Saturday because we have our cars in copy at horse power farm.
Oh, that's right. Yeah, you've, yeah, you've probably made a bunch of money for charity.
Okay. All right. We'll go for you. Yep. I'm going to a charity event tonight as well for
cancer free kids for my son. So yeah. So all right. Well, all right, we'll call me.
I've been down that cancer road with my wife. She's a breast cancer survivor. So
yeah, my son was diagnosed. Yeah, my son was diagnosed at two and a half and he's in remission
and he's, he's doing great. And we're going to a fundraiser to, you know, help other, you know,
future families and children. So all right. Yes. So call me, call me in two weeks. I'll
have an answer for you. I appreciate it. You have a great weekend. All right. Thank you. All right.
Bye-bye. All right. Real quick, Larry. Welcome, Larry. I'm so sorry I want to get to you.
I don't want to cut you off short, but I have to. What's going on?
I would just follow up with our conversation about, I had a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado.
And you said to go talk to GM garage about updates and we kind of figured it out. It's
actually the nature of the beast. It's related to the mass airflow sensor and what it does.
Okay. What it does, the air coming across the mass air flow,
it measure, mass air flow sensors can measure temperature if I remember correctly. And what
it bounced up to is when it gets cold, it tells us that the engine is consuming more air at the time.
And that's in shooting more fuel into the motor. Okay. Okay. All right. Okay.
That makes sense. Hey, listen, I appreciate you. I got it. I'm so sorry to cut you off shortly.
Call me back in two weeks. I'd love to take your car question. So
that makes sense. It's going to run a little bit richer when it's cold. I mean, that's going to
happen. But anyways, everybody have a great weekend. I'll be back to take, answer all of your car
questions, be safe. And thank you so much for all the cars calls. You're listening to the car show
