from my arm.

I started getting the moisture on the inside of the crystal.

Like, well, that's the giant shop.

because you don't need to buy a ticket to enter.

But it's completely overtaken with crazy cars, both directions,
creating a 15 mile long, completely insane traffic jam
that is just glorious in its weirdness. OK.
And along the sides of both of the roads, everywhere,
there's car shows to pull off into and parking lot parties
and the OEMs do some activations and like just whatever.
And so can I ask you, though?
Is it? Excuse me, I'm sorry.
Can you just if you don't want to drive on that street,
can you drive your weird shopping cart anywhere?
I don't know. I mean, it's in that day or it's not.
I'm not reading you the law right now.
I'm not saying that, like, literally everything is legal.
This event. So if I were leaving my drive when the police pulled me over,
I'd say I'm going to Woodward Dream Cruise.
And that's why I am in this crazy car and you're in Detroit on this weekend.
Pretty much now it's Detroit.
So pretty much anything goes all the time anyway.
But when you and I were there, yeah, people were doing that anyway.
Do you remember that? Yeah.
It was the beginning of motorcycles and motocross bikes on the road.
And remember what the police said?
We'd rather them do this.

Right. The 12 o'clock boys are less of a crime on these bikes
than they would be slanging rocks.

Charming. It made me like Detroit.
So anyway, I went to this like 10 years ago and it was a great time.

And it's not all American muscle.
There there's obviously a lot of that, but there's exotics.
There's weird builds.
There's motorcycles.
There's like that a guy driving a boat down the road.
I mean, every weird thing you can imagine.

It is commercially detailing cars in the street
with water in LA County is quite illegal.

something I've been wanting to drive.

Let's take a look at it.

All right. So here it is, the new electric Macon.
Yeah. Take us through it.
Well, this is the Macon GTS, right?
And so in typical, you know, Porsche isms,
that means it's above the S and below the turbo.
Right. But it also kind of means it has a better sound
like a normal GTS.
Anything with Porsche usually means a better exhaust note.
Yeah.
So it's kind of wasted.
Well, I mean, Taycan has a GTS also,
which doesn't have a different exhaust note.
It's usually, I mean, more power and the exhaust sort of comes with that.
So it's 509 horsepower
with like a 570 horsepower on a sport chrono over boost mode.
Obviously, it's dual motor all wheel drive.
It has an electronic limited slip diff at the back.
It has the same brakes as the Macon turbo.
It's got all the black accents,
which is usually how you can spot a GTS, the black interior with the with the red trim.
And what I like about this thing, actually, is the ride is really good.
And with the rear steer on the car with this sort of short wheelbase,
it is super, super maneuverable, like in the city and parking lots.
I mean, I haven't frankly been up the mountain with it yet.
But right, just driving it around the race.
It's got a very quick steering ratio with that rear steer, but it's not twitchy.
And so they found the right balance between sort of sharpness and ride
and maneuverability, but without it being like darty.
What give us some of the basic stats?
I think when you hear about an electric car, I always go, well, how much is it?
And how how many miles does it go on a truck?
That's the first thing that I want to do.
I've had this thing for three days, so I've driven half a charge.
I don't know, you know, it's it's 100 and 25 grand as tested.
OK, OK, but it's got a bunch of options.
So the base price is one oh five.
It's then got a bunch of color options that total 7000 dollars.
Rear steering to grand 22 inch wheels, three grand interior
trim and carbon that's a thousand.
Can I can I charge it?
Do I have to charge it on a normal charger or can I use a charger?
It can do either.
It can do either the port.
The actual port on this is a CCS, not a Tesla.
It comes with an adapter.
Next year's model, they change over the port.
But you can you can charge it on a supercharger with an adapter.
OK, yes, it will.
I could bring it to Tesla.
Yes, you can charge it on a Tesla supercharger.

As far as I know, I haven't personally used it yet.
But yes, as far as I know, you download the app and put in your credit card.
Yeah, just like you would with Electrify America or whatever.
Right, right.
So it's you know, it's hard to kind of understand where Porsche is at with electrification.
You know, there was all that back and forth about the 718.
We're going to make an electric one. We're not. We are. We're not.
Well, look, they clearly wanted to and take pride in designing
and making electric cars.
But it is very clear that they didn't want to only make electric cars
and is very clear that whatever efforts they took to electrify
their sports car range is pretty much done by force.
You know what I mean?
Like they all but come out and say if we could build a full line of GT3s
like we would, but that's not allowed.
So this is what we're allowed to do.
And and having said that,
the electric cars that they do build, I tend to enjoy. Right.
I love my Taycan. Yeah, I love. I like this.
There is a question of price. Is it a 125,000 car?
Maybe, but I wouldn't buy it at that price.
But that's also just me and my budget. Yeah, your mileage may vary.
I mean, your budget may vary hugely, I don't know.
So, you know, and and for whatever
trouble and headaches and allocations and blah, blah, blah, that it takes
to get into a GT car or a very desirable 9-11.
Dude, you can play the flip side of that game
and buy one of these with very low miles for half to two thirds
of what Porsche wants for it today. Right.
And my experience is it will be largely largely the same.
So like they don't want me on here showing new cars and going buy it used.
But like that is a move.
Let's take a look inside.
Let's let's see what it looks like.
So compared, I do like the way this thing looks.
And I like it, I left the door open.
I think it might still be on. Yeah.
It shares a lot with my Taycan.
It's a little bit.
It's a little more upright, obviously, than the Taycan, which actually
my old back sort of likes.
I like I like not having to.
Taycans are amazing, but they have very small door openings
and you have to sort of crawl into them. Right.
This has a bigger door opening.
It's got that sport designed steering wheel, which is in carbon,
which I kind of dig. That's cool.
That's pretty nice looking.
I would not get race text on a steering wheel ever again.
Why? I know it just feels weird.
It feels weird after like after a while.
The leather wears better over time.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, having just driven the Lucid Sapphire,
we talked about it on the show with a few episodes back.
So if you want to hear it reviewed, you can go back and look at it.
But, you know, and also driven the new Polestar,
you know, three or four can't remember.
The funniest issue with these cars, and you can tell me what this car is like,
is when you are walking towards it.
Like so when I have the Model Y, my wife has the Model Y,
as I walk to the car, the car unlocks, it's ready to go.
You can press a button and they rear deck comes up and I can throw my gear in there
and then I'm off and running.
It's probably the easiest and works the best.
The Polestar. I know where you're going with this, but go on.
Yeah, no, it's just a question for you.
The Polestar didn't open.
I'd stand here like this and it wouldn't open and then eventually
in the gut and its mood, you know, the Lucid Sapphire,
which is an incredible car, which I loved, very expensive, really fast,
really fast.
Worst proximity key in the history of cars, actually.
I didn't find it as bad as the Polestar, which was impossible.
In my experience, there's no worse proximity key.
Really?
Yeah, then the air, I drove the gravity and it is better.
But the all the air range is a nightmare.
It's it and it I believe that Polestar is worse.
Yeah, and and you're right to say it's nightmarish,
because it's it's a small thing the first time it happens.
But then it happens every time and then your car experience
from the very start is a hiccup.
Yeah.
And if you start to have a little bit of a resentment
and I didn't have that much trouble with Lucid,
you know, I had the app going, but it wasn't it wasn't exactly perfect.
Lucid Sapphire, again, drives great, super fast, lots of compliments and stuff.
But it would, you know, I'd want to open up the rear
trunk or the, you know, the hatch, whatever was there.
And it asked me on the app, are you sure?
You know, and I was like, yeah, I'm pressing twice, which I don't want to do.
But but still, I thought it was a great thing.
Yeah, this. Yeah.
Now. Yeah.
We've just talked about those different things.
Sure. Leaving your house.
Yes. What happens?
Do I have an app? Do I have you?
There is an app.
It's not in I.
Now, I believe it is possible to use your phone as a key.
I don't personally like to use my phone as a key.
Yeah, I just don't.
I like to have the app for pre-cooling and blah, blah, blah.
See, there are moments where you need to use it.
Yeah, yeah, I know.
You can even with the app, if you're not using, quote, phone as a key,
you can remote lock and unlock and do all that stuff.
I find all the time that would be in the Tesla.
I don't have that key and I can just use the app
because I've got to unload or look for something.
But I I prefer a fob, just whatever.
Yeah. Fine.
This car, when you walk up to it,
when you get about 10 feet away, it unlocks.
When you open the door to get in it, it turns on.
There is also a power button.
So my Taycan doesn't automatically turn on when you get in it.
You sit down, you press the power button, it turns on.
Right. This car, because it automatically turns on.
You sit down, you press the power button, it turns off.
So that's funny.
So I guess.
What is the point of the power button?
Well, I'm guessing, A, that there is a toggle
where you can turn off the setting to get in to start it automatically.
I see. You know what I mean?
Somewhere in the menu, I haven't found it.
I haven't started to look.
But it seems like it's a redundancy, though.
Look, I have to be honest, I prefer there to be a power button.
Why?
Because I just want to know when the car is going to turn on
and when the car is going to turn off.
Right. Because of exactly why I just told you.
Because when one car does it one way
and the rest of my cars do it another way,
it's easier to just have all the cars do it to me.
But in the Tesla again, you get in the car,
you put your foot on the brake, it's on, you move.
But that seems like the quickest route to moving.
There are reasons I would want.
We've had this in talk before, Spike.
There's reasons I'd want my car to be on.
Remember when I'm not driving it.
And there's reasons I want my car to be off when I'm in it.
Yeah. And a power button allows me to do both of those things
and doesn't inconvenience me for the rest of my life.
OK. I don't like power.
This car is an example right here of how you can have the power button
for someone like me and you can have it do it your way for someone like you.
You're a power button guy from a power top.
But here's the question then, does it open?
Does it lock and unlock every time?
Are you having no issues with that as you approach?
It is set to unlock as I approach.
Yeah, has it been working? Yes, it has been.
It has been because I suspect the other cars
like the Polestar and Lucid were being affected by sunshine.
Like in the bright like they developed the car at night.
No, they never tested this anecdotal.
But in the bright sun, I couldn't get the damn thing open.
I'm waving the key fob. That's crazy night.
It was perfect. Now, here's the thing.
Now, you live in Brentwood.
Is it possible? Radioactivity.

affected the polarity around that is possible.
That could have happened.
It was that weird.
You know, you spent millions of dollars on crystals.

There's a little button on the right side
just to the right of the camera, like in that little triangle to the right.
Yeah, there you go.
And you have a trunk.
It holds many things and there's some kind of receipt from.
It doesn't drive like a premium SUV.
Yes, it honestly, it drives halfway between the gas Macan and the Taycan.
The power, you know, if you've if you've been in a Porsche electric car,
the experience is very familiar immediately.
I, to be perfectly honest, if I could go money doesn't matter.
Money's not real.
I have I have this car as it sits, which is MSRP,
about 10000 dollars less than my Taycan, if it was new.
Yep. Or or I have my that my used one at home and this.
All other things being equal, money's not real.
I'd rather drive this every day.
The Macan, because it's a little taller.
It's the visibility is a little better.
It's a little easier to get in and out of.
I really like the rear steer and the shorter wheelbase.
Yeah, yeah, ability and I like the bigger door openings
and it has updated, updated tech, better battery, things like that.
I like this. I like it too.
I'm thinking about this whole world after Bronco Town time is done.
I mean, and for me, you know, it seemed like the smaller electric,
but an SUV is perfect.
You don't need the dude.
You don't need a GTS that the four.

Well, you've got an Apple watch.
I'm a digital guy, but I have to wear my Sheffield.
Wow. What is the official?
You're like one of these, you know, and don't take this the wrong way.
You like watch nerds.
You're one of these guys who understands the psychology of the watch world.
What is your take on a two watch person?
Is that allowed?
Well, it's because you're addicted to your schedule.
You have to have a digital.
So it's so it's function that you're saying.
Yeah. So that one keeps the function and the other one keeps the time for you.
If you're not working, you don't need the Apple watch.
You can just wear your analog.
Did you ever hear us talk about the Zuckerman's lawyer partner,
Mazza, who wears two Rolexes, one on each arm?
Is that OK? That's a new level.
I'm not quite sure.
It's not exactly right.
Well, if he had a Sheffield on one wrist and a Rolex on the other,

And we're here to talk about Sheffield.
So let's do that.
There's tons going on with the brand and you're here with.
Why don't we start with the new SCR?
That's the watch that we just redid.
This is the original blue SCR that you and I put together right there.
And this is for sale right now.
I remember we got on the phone and we were like, what are we going to do next for this?
And I said, why don't we refine it like a car?
Why don't we do a dot to like the 992 dot to?
Why don't we have the blue SCR dot to?
And immediately you said,
I think on the bezel, we can do finer teeth,
which I thought was an amazing idea.
Colored coin edge.
Yeah, yeah.
And but but what?
You know, tell me about that.
Well, the thing is, it's really hard when you do a dot to because the first version
was awesome. Yeah, we sold a lot of those.
And yeah, yeah, yeah, watch.
And so the blue is something that you really can't change the color.
Right.
But what we did is refine it a bit by
the bezel edge as well as going to a simpler bezel insert.
It doesn't have all the detail, all the hash marks that the original one had.
And then you had a great suggestion to kind of narrow the markers as well as the
hand slightly, yeah, yeah, give it a slightly different, new, sophisticated look to it.
Scream line. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I'm really happy with this watch.
I'm wearing it today.
I thought, you know, it's different enough, but yet it's true to the original.
Right.
It'll be like a mainline watch forever.
I mean, that it won't be, it won't go away.
And this one is it's perfectly set up for that for that long job.
Can I just ask you like, let's start with an original idea.
You know, you and I get on the phone and we go, here's this idea.
We want to do this watch.
Take take us through the process there.
Like, I'm still a little unsure of how this all happens.
Like, do you do initial sketches?
Do the factory do initial sketches?
Is there some hero overseas that's sitting working with you?
Well, I mean, well, first of all, you have a good eye and I think I have a good
understanding of where your head's at, of what kind of direction you want to go.
So that really helps if two people aren't
able to communicate well, then it doesn't really matter.
So you have very good data, very good kind of point of view.
But what I do is what I've done for years with other products is I do a product
brief, so I take it and I break it down into its elements all the way from
influence, case, color,
reference watches from different eras.
And then that is how you kind of break down all the detail.
And then I'll use that brief with the factory that has renderings.
And where is the factory?
This factory is in South China.
It's in Shenzhen.
There's actually two different factories.
They're both really good.
And you take that brief in and you show it to them.
And then the two of you work it out from there.
I mean, that's how it starts.
We've probably gone through, like, say for the this latest watch we're going to
talk about coming up, probably went through eight
reference before you even saw it.
I mean, I went through that many
renders just to kind of get the there's so many fine points on a watch.
Yeah, it's complicated markers and the size of the case, the size of the bezel,
all those things. Wow.
It's pretty fun. I mean, it's second nature for me, but thank goodness,
because it goes faster that way.
Yeah, yeah.
So so once you guys agree on the brief and you've got now something with a spec sheet,
essentially, I've seen those, then then what happens from there?
Well, we approve the spec sheet, we go to the factory, here's what we want.
Here's the movement.
And then they actually, in some cases, like,
we'll do a CAD version of the case.
So that'll go into CNC because it's typically not something that's
we don't really use existing cases.
We always create our own.
So there's an engineering component to it.
And then there's the CNC
spec, the CAD spec, and then it goes in
to that case production and all the other elements start to kind of fall into place.
The dial, the loom we're using, Swiss Loom C3, the hands we oftentimes can find
some hands that are existing, but typically we tool our own.
So almost everything on the watch gets
it's not off the shelf, it's all bespoke, everything gets made.
Yeah. And it's sometimes it goes fast and sometimes it goes slower.
This last year, it's gone slower.
It just seems like everything's at least 30 percent slower than it used to be.
Yeah. Yeah. OK.
Well, not long ago, maybe it was long ago, I said, look, I'm obsessed with tennis.
I'm wearing these Swatch Omega watches.
And I would rather be wearing something of yours.
And what are you doing in the world of sport?
And you said you hadn't really considered.
And I said, you know, you and I both,
you know, what I really appreciate about a Swatch Omega is an inexpensive
chrono that I could that you can wear and not worry about.
But that doesn't have a metal case.
And you said Sheffield Sport.
It's time I launched Sheffield Sport.
And I said, let's do it and we designed something together.
And it's really actually, I just kind of want to go to what your your spec was,
because a lot of things that happen on the court in terms of hitting tennis
balls and movement, there's a lot of shock.
Yes. And if you use an automatic movement
doing that, there's it's really hard for an automatic to manage all that shock.
And at the same time, a court's movement is much more resilient.
And that's what's used in the Swatch versions.
Yeah. But but those have batteries you have to change.
Yes. So we talked about, well, how can we avoid that?
And by the way, that's where the Swatch Omega's went wrong for me.
Was changing the battery.
They became unsealed and perspiration and sweat started infiltrating the watch.
And then it rusted and then it died.
Plus their crystal scratch.
And so a lot.
What we did is we're using a ceramic body with an AS01 Epson solar chrono movement.
Right. So you'll never have to change the battery.
And the and it's rechargeable through solar.
So there's when you see the sub dials,
that's where the the sun rays, so to speak, go in and supercharge the battery.
Little tiny solar panel.
Exactly. Sub dials.
And then we're using a domed sapphire crystal, which is really resilient.
Now, it has a little bit more weight than a plastic.
But at the same time, it it's just the whole level of quality and presentation
of the watch. That's going to last better.
Yeah. I mean, it is because I get SPF, sweat and grime and the rest of it on that
watch and, you know, this weird brown buildup that's horrible.
And a glass crystal, a sapphire crystal like that's really going to be an upgrade.
Well, let's see it. I'm dying to see this watch.
Well, you have not touched it yet.
I haven't seen any of it.
I'm so excited out of the box.
And be funny if I just hated it right off.
Oh, my God, take it away. Wow.
Oh, look at that.
Well, that looks a lot like what we talked about.
It's perfect. Yeah.
And you really, oh, boy, definitely wanted us to have a little bit of unique
kind of features to it in terms of color.
But it's it's it's it turned out really well.
We're going to really offer it both with a blue strap that you see as well as a white strap.
Is the backing white on it?
The back will be white.
This is the first production run pre pre production run.
So it's kind of cool with this thing on the back, too.
But yeah, all white. How fabulous.
Oh, that was really nice.
Oh, no, it's got great action on it.
We look at that. Oh, and that's a that that that's ceramic body.
Really light and I said the crystal, though, will add a little bit of weight.
And when we use the ceramic back, that will lighten the watch lately as well.
I just love how these straps are like pop up.
What what color is it going to come with?
Blue and white. Yeah, perfect.
And those are FKM rubber straps or not.
Yeah. Wow.
This is a home run.
This is such a home run.
Fantastic, I think.
You know, I didn't understand, you know, I was I was
with Tag Heuer a few weeks ago and they were talking about the solar graph.
And I didn't really understand it till I was actually on the tennis court.
And I and I had you have another solar powered quartz watch that you sent.
And I was wearing it and I realized the sun was charging it while I was playing.
And I felt this like, oh, this feels really satisfying that I'm in the sun.
And I'm not worrying about skin cancer.
I'm charging my watch and this feels good, right?
And and I love that little idea on this watch.
I don't believe that anybody has done a solar
chrono movement and a watch like this.
I think we're the first to do that.
Yeah. Yeah.
It's really fantastic.
What a watch.
This is very exciting.
It'll be timing wise.
Yeah. When are we selling them?
This is one of those that took a little longer.
So I suspect by the end of July.
We'll have it on the site.
And what is the material here of the case?
The case is ceramic, but it has some natural elements to it.
So it uses some other non petroleum as well as
castor oil kind of blends along with the ceramic.
So it's it's it has some natural ingredients to it as well.
Really cool.
It's pretty neat.
You know, it doesn't feel cheap like the Swatch Omega.
No, well, there's a if you look at it, it's not tapered and it's not thin.
Yeah. Yeah.
And that that really shows you that the movement inside is some
some guts to it as well as the the fact that the cases are resilient because of
its its shape and its size.
It's really neat.
All right. What else did you bring?
Well, you we talked about the new SCR too.
And then I also brought a new brand new case, brand new watch.
It's our deep gray 300.
I saw this online.
And it's it's much bigger than I thought it was than photograph substantial.
It's a 40 millimeter case size.
Again, with
it's it's 300 meter depth too.
So it's extremely high level of water repellence or water
resistance is compared to 200 even.
And it has
a really cool soft nylon Velcro strap.
Yeah, I wasn't sure about until I actually wore it for like three days.
It's one of the most comfortable straps.
Yeah. Look at how easy it just goes on.
And the watch does not sit large on your on your wrist.
I don't have a that big of a risk comparatively and it felt just fine.
So yeah, we had a lot of people asking for that.
And this has a has a dial that's a pick up from a 60 Sheffield.
I mean, it's it's a it's traditional diver dial from the 60s.
When did when was Sheffield watches launched originally?
The original Sheffield was late 50s through 1974.
That's was their range.
But their heyday was in the 60s when they had dive watches and men's watches.
And then they went into women's and fashion such and such.
But then the the courts revolution came and it kind of shut them down in the early
and then you just they went out of business in 74
And when did you buy the company or the name? Right.
The name I I retraded marked it three and a half years ago.
And that was it.
And that was it because it was a dead trade.
Are there a bunch of like dead company names laying around out there that someone
could just come in and trademark it and pick up and start business again?
The thing about about that, though, is
within the watch community, Sheffield actually had vintage kind of awareness.
A lot of people were buying old vintage Sheffields as well as caravals and such like that.
And so there was a kind of an an awareness of the brand within the
within the watch community.
So when we relaunched it, there were a lot of people that went, oh,
that's fantastic, Sheffields back.
We're watching the watch nerds, you know, and it really helped us.
But then I think, you know, the connection that you made with our car
culture is really huge.
I mean, it's been fantastic.
Well, speaking of that, you had a pretty big moment
this week, as a matter of fact, it's all over social media.
Former president was wearing a one off Sheffield, Joe Biden right here.
This episode of Jay Leno's garage was put out or posted this week.
It's all over the play.
I just saw it on CNN, too.
There he is. I guess they went out and had ice cream.
Yeah. And there he is wearing your watch.
What was that like for you seeing a president,
a former president of the United States wearing a Sheffield watch?
Well, I have to tell you, I'm always humbled by what's been going on with this
brand, and it's just it's only been three years at the end of this month.
And the kind of things that are evolving and happening.
This is that was really special.
And, you know, we customized one of the Leno driver watches.
Yeah, I saw the color of the car and the strap match the interior of the car as well.
I wasn't sure that he was going to wear it.
That was a shock to me.
So it was really fun.
A pretty amazing moment for you.
Yeah, it's pretty great.
It's hard to actually kind of add them to be honest with you.
So well, it's it's because you're good at what you do, Jay.
Well, it's good at what you do.
I have some. I mean, you're good at what you do.
I'm sorry. Friends in high places.
Yeah. And yeah.
But look, you really you do this right.
You're very good at it.
You know, when I call you a watch nerd, it's a compliment.
Like you really spend a lot of time with the community and you really work hard to
get things right. And I've seen you focus on color and, you know,
get a little obsessed with it.
And that's what it takes.
That's what it takes to create a good product.

We're not taking anything off the shelf.
It's lovely. So if I'm correct, it would be like a late 60s tonneau style case.

And plus, you notice
at the three o'clock is where the 12 o'clock it was based on an old driver's
yeah, a watch that was used or promoted for rally work.
That's really cool.
And this particular watch has an inner bezel
that you turn with one of the upper knobs.
So it's not an outer bezel.
Yeah, it's a but the dial will not rotate.
The dial doesn't.

Matt then delivers a full road test breakdown of the new electric Porsche Macan GTS: $105K base, up to 570 horsepower on Overboost, dual-motor AWD, rear-axle steering, and surprisingly excellent daily drivability. Charging on Tesla Superchargers? Yes. Annoying proximity key issues like Polestar and Lucid? Not a problem here. Matt's verdict: if money weren't real, he'd drive it every day.
