Carter Subaru is a local Subaru dealership/service shop the host is talking about. They’re sharing a maintenance tip they learned from that service experience.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is a tough off-road SUV. The host is using it as an example of a vehicle that vibrates a lot, so bolts on add-ons can loosen unless you use threadlocker.
Panhard bars are parts of the suspension that help keep the axle centered as the wheels move. If they loosen, the car can feel weird or unsafe. The host is saying their design helps keep the bar from completely falling off.
They’re talking about a Ford Bronco they used off-road near Moab. Off-road driving can shake bolts loose. That’s why they’re emphasizing using the right fixes to keep parts from rattling.
Torque is how hard you tighten a bolt. The right torque helps keep the part secure without damaging the bolt or threads. The host is saying you may need both the right torque and thread-locking compound.
“1300 foot pounds” means an extremely tight bolt setting. That level of tightening is usually for big heavy parts, not normal everyday car bolts. It’s part of the point that these are serious, industrial-style assemblies.
Aluminum threads/bolts can strip more easily than steel. The idea is to use a gentler locking method so you don’t damage the threads when tightening or removing the bolt.
Vibration is the constant shaking your car parts experience while driving. That shaking can loosen bolts, so people use locking products or marks to catch movement early.
Suspension components are the parts that help your car ride smoothly and handle bumps. Because they move a lot and shake, bolts there can loosen unless you secure them.
Here “blue” isn’t paint—it’s a type of bolt-locking chemical. It helps keep bolts from backing out from shaking, but it’s usually meant to be removable later. Heat can help break it loose.
“Purple” is another kind of bolt-locking chemical. The speaker is saying it’s better for aluminum bolts than the blue one. Different grades behave differently, so choosing the right one helps the bolt stay secure without causing problems later.
Term
socket
A socket is the tool that fits over the bolt head. If it doesn’t fit perfectly, you can damage the bolt head while trying to loosen it. That’s why the speaker warns that with thread-locker, the wrong socket can strip the bolt.
“Extreme duty” means tougher-than-normal use, like lots of vibration or rough terrain. Under those conditions, you may need stronger or more specific products and more frequent checks.
This is a Subaru Forester, a practical crossover that’s popular for commuting and road trips. The “hybrid” part means it uses both a gas engine and an electric system, which can help it use less fuel.
Term
tank of gas
A “tank of gas” just means the full amount of fuel in the car. Saying how many miles you get on a tank is a simple way to estimate fuel efficiency.
The Mustang is a sports car from Ford that’s been around for many years. A lot of owners modify them—changing things like appearance and performance—so you’ll often hear about special builds. It’s a popular car to talk about because there are many ways to customize it.
The Audi R8 is a sports car with strong performance. It’s designed to look dramatic and it’s often customized, like adding window tint. The podcast is basically pointing out how good it looks in that kind of setup.
A “K-swap” means putting a Honda K-series engine into a different car than it originally came with. It’s a common modification style for people who want a different engine and usually more power.
A Ferrari 308 is an older, iconic Ferrari with a V8 and a mid-engine layout. The speaker is saying they’d tear out the original engine and gearbox and replace them with something else to completely change the car’s character.
Term
motor and transmission
They’re talking about replacing the engine (“motor”) and the gearbox (“transmission”). Swapping those is a big job because it changes how the car makes power and how it sends that power to the wheels.
“Purists” are fans who want a brand to stay true to what they think it should be. Here, it means some Ferrari fans don’t like the company making an all-electric car. The hosts are saying those fans are upset about the change.
Benedetto Vigna is a top executive at Ferrari. The hosts mention him because he’s tied to Ferrari’s recent decisions about new cars, including an all-electric one. That’s why his name comes up in a debate about whether the car fits Ferrari’s image.
The Ferrari Luce is a new car model from Ferrari that was recently launched. The podcast is bringing it up because it’s a fresh release people are talking about. The hosts want to discuss what it is and why it matters.
Nissan is the automaker mentioned as posting an ad that thanks Ferrari for praising Nissan’s new Leaf. In this segment, it’s used as a real-world example of how the Leaf’s design is being compared to Ferrari’s new EV. That comparison is part of the broader “ripoff”/design controversy the hosts are discussing.
The Leaf is an electric car made by Nissan. Instead of using gasoline, it runs on a battery and an electric motor. It’s a common choice for people who want a simple, practical electric vehicle, and its design gets talked about a lot.
“All-electric” means the car runs on electricity stored in a battery. It doesn’t use a gas engine. The hosts mention it because this is a big shift for Ferrari fans.
“Allocation” here means limited supply—only certain customers get the cars. The collector is worried Ferrari might make people buy a less popular model first to stay eligible for the really desirable ones.
The Testarossa is a famous sports car from Ferrari. People often talk about its looks, and the podcast mentions that its design has been controversial for a long time. It’s an example of a car where style is a big part of the conversation.
The Ferrari Roma is a Ferrari model meant to be a more “everyday” Ferrari compared with the brand’s most extreme supercars. Here, they’re using it as an example of how Ferrari might price and market a new cheaper EV.
“Entry level Ferrari” means a Ferrari that’s positioned as the cheaper way to get into the Ferrari lineup. They’re discussing whether that strategy would work for an electric model.
An electric car runs on electricity stored in a battery instead of gasoline. The hosts are debating whether a Ferrari EV could sell if it’s priced right and feels like a real Ferrari.
The Porsche Panamera is a four-door Porsche that’s meant to be both practical and fun to drive. They mention it as one of their favorite cars, basically saying they like the idea of a usable performance car.
They mention the Lamborghini Urus as an example of a supercar brand making an SUV that actually makes sense to buyers. It’s a case where the product matched the audience.
Shareholder value means the company is trying to make money for the people who own shares in it. The host is saying Ferrari’s choices can be explained by business incentives, not just car enthusiasm.
Bespoke cars are custom-built vehicles tailored to specific customer requests rather than mass-produced for broad demand. The speaker contrasts Ferrari’s traditional “limited, special, custom” positioning with the idea of making more mainstream products like SUVs.
The Ferrari 296 Speciale is a high-end Ferrari supercar. It uses a modern performance setup (including electrification), and the hosts bring it up to argue about what Ferrari “should” be making.
The Ferrari Testarossa is an older, famous Ferrari from the late 1980s/early 1990s. The host brings it up as an example of a Ferrari design that might not click right away but could win you over later.
Twin-turbo means the engine uses two turbochargers to make more power. The host is using it as an example of the kind of exciting engine tech they think Ferrari should focus on.
Car
Polestar roadster
Polestar’s roadster is an upcoming electric sports car. The host says it looks great and that it’s meant to compete with Tesla’s electric roadster plans.
The Tesla Roadster is a rumored/anticipated electric sports car from Tesla. The host is comparing other EVs to it and saying some competitors could be serious alternatives.
“Vaporware” means something that’s talked about a lot, but you can’t actually buy it yet. The host is using it to say the Tesla Roadster has been promised for a long time without showing up.
Supply chain issues mean problems getting the parts and materials needed to build cars. When that happens, production can slow down and costs can rise.
A range extender is extra power that helps an electric car drive farther. Think of it like a backup generator that keeps the battery charged when you need more range.
That’s a “range extender” idea. The car has a small engine that makes electricity to help the battery last longer, so you can drive farther without charging as often.
The Charger is a car model from Dodge that’s known for performance. It’s been offered with different power options over time, and the podcast is discussing the idea of an electric version using the Charger name. That’s why it comes up in conversations about changes in what the car can be.
The Viper is a sports car made by Dodge that was built to be very fast and exciting to drive. The podcast is talking about the Viper name and how it might be used in a new kind of vehicle. That’s why it’s brought up in the context of replacement or evolution.
The F-150 Lightning is an electric pickup truck from Ford. It uses a battery instead of a gasoline engine, but it’s still meant to be a practical truck for everyday and work use. The podcast mentions it because the “Lightning” name is being used for an electric version of the truck.
Term
hybrid lightning truck
The host is imagining a hybrid version of an electric truck. The idea is to use an engine to help the battery so you don’t have to rely only on charging.
Front-wheel drive means the front wheels are the ones that push the truck forward. The host is talking about which wheels should get the power in a hybrid truck setup.
Rivian is a company that makes electric trucks and SUVs. They’re talking about Rivian’s new R2 “configurator,” which is a tool that lets you choose options and see pricing.
A configurator is a website tool where you pick options for a car (like packages or features) and see the price change. It’s basically “build your car” online.
The Rivian R2 is an upcoming electric truck/SUV from Rivian. They’re excited about it because the pricing is expected to be more affordable than earlier Rivian vehicles.
Range extension means the vehicle can go farther than the battery alone by using an extra system to keep power available. It’s meant to make long trips easier without charging as often.
A V8 is a type of gas engine with eight cylinders. The host is basically saying they’d like the hybrid to include a traditional, powerful gas engine setup.
LIVE
Welcome to the Avant's podcast. I'm Dan. I'm Nick. How you doing, man? I'm changed. You changed. I'm changed the man
we, Kate and I went up to
Victoria, which I'm gonna get into the story and on our way back we
We were detained at the border in our brand new Subaru
For what we assume is the fact that we didn't have plates on it. Wasn't all the guns and drugs
No, they don't really care. They did they asked me 19 times if I had guns or drugs in that car
Yeah, so how are you?
Tired. Yeah, I catch him back up a lot going on here, of course
Life. Yeah, Sean. I had to go over some surgery. I won't go in for that. But man, I will tell you
Swedish hospital
has
Bar none the worst food I've ever had in my life. Oh, like I haven't been to prison yet
But I can't imagine it being much of a downgrade
Border is about the same. Yeah
Okay. Yeah, it was it's hospital food. It was it was
There are no words like okay, it was
90% inedible if it didn't come from a box
I mean like the breakfast cereal the special k was probably the best food I had while I was there
Huh, even the Starbucks was terrible there, but well, I mean people were fine. I'm not talking about the staff that worked there
I don't know the kitchen staff obviously looked like I I don't know
But I this has scarred you like this is it's literally the worst food I've ever seen had
Like it was inedible and even the food they gave her. Yeah. Oh god. Oh, yeah, I became the designated
Uh door-dash person where you where were you in Seattle or here? Seattle up on Cherry Hill
Oh, yeah, okay. So I just grabbed luckily it's a there's lime scooters everywhere and the weather was actually that bad
I had my my neck surgery done there. So yeah, absolutely. But okay. Yeah, so I I found a lot about a great local food
Yeah, that's a good area. Secret burger on Capitol Hill
This is gonna surprise everybody
Probably the best burger I've ever had. Oh, wow is a smash burger
But like there are smash burgers like that are done different ways
Most of the time they're just greasy and overcooked a smash you get a smash burger
It's really just like a charred thin matte meat patty and they charge 15 bucks for it or something
And they're terrible like most smash burgers to me are not impressive because there's like they lose the art of cooking
They just flash fry thin meat and you're like, okay, it's salt and something that tastes like hamburger
Yeah, totally not the case. Okay, literally one of the best burgers I've ever had in my life
I would go back to Capitol Hill just for that burger
That says a lot that says way more than people think it does because me getting to Seattle for any reason like
I wouldn't even go to Seattle for most Michelin star restaurants
I am one of those few people that thinks the uh, what's the one everybody goes to down there, uh
the
G one the the one that's in delve you to no the one that's uh on the waterfront, um, it overlooks it
Everybody goes to uh on the cliff there. Yeah. Yeah, I don't I don't what is the name of that place allow me to go there
I think it's completely overrated
I'm one of those people like so if you if you think about talking about food and everybody goes
Oh, we had our special dinner. I'm like you're I could cook better food at home
90% of the time I can go for that. You're you're you're cooking is amazing
I love to cook and so I'm not a fan of even like even the highest rated restaurants Seattle
Yeah, usually fail to impress me. I'm like, okay. Canless. I think canless. Yeah, which I think is fine
That's just a lot considering this is an automotive podcast and we're talking about food
Right and you okay, so you like me you travel so much
I travel all over the world
And I have had some of the best food I've ever had in you know alleyways in france
Things like that and so like for me to be impressed by food is saying a lot
Yeah, and so yeah, and I will tell people I think canless is highly overrated. I think it's good
It's consistently good, but I think it's extremely overrated and overpriced for what it is
You're paying 90 percent atmosphere 10 food and it's like they just present
Mediocre food well, okay, so that's my opinion and and people are gonna hate me for that because people love canless around here
But I I still think like places like that are highly overrated
I think you don't necessarily have to charge a high price for a good product. Oh, no, no, no
And sometimes it's worth it
I've had really expensive dishes that are absolutely worth it because you can't have them anywhere else
Like one of those things for me
I always tell people like if you find a place that really knows how to cook Japanese a5 wagyu even that is an art
It is not the just the beef it is the cooking it that is and so you need a place like
Speaking of that and it's actually on my list as of last night. It's called the 86 and it's in New York
It's only a 10 table thing
The prices are pretty reasonable, but it is the it's allegedly the number one steak
House in America and the number 12 in the world. Oh, well, okay. Yeah, I'll pay I'll pay a lot for good food if it's worth it
Um, I don't really pay a lot for presentation. I don't really care what it presents as long as it tastes good
How does it chew? Yeah, you can plate it as fancy as you want. Um, throw
Gold flakes on it. Whatever. Yeah, I don't know if anybody's chewed on a lot of gold, but it's not exactly a food flavor
It's just a fancy thing. It is. Yeah. Yeah. Anyway, I wish I had it in Goldschlager
Yeah, anyway, Swedish cherry hill the probably the worst most inedible food I've ever had in my life
Um, but the place is around it found some decent food around it. Um
But uh before we any further James. Yo, this is episode 447. There you go. Yeah
That's funny because we don't go into Seattle that much
but we actually were back in Seattle twice yesterday because uh, the
The super had to go in for a quick little squeak that they fixed obviously immediately and by the way
I want a huge shout out to carter automotive and carter subaru because they have their new service center
Which I haven't been to in a year because I haven't had a subaru. Oh, right. Yeah
It was absolutely amazing. The service was incredible as always and lowly got a dog toy. So she's very happy about that
But yeah, yeah, yeah, um, you you were telling me we were chatting. You had an interesting, uh
Carter automotive tip of the week about loctite. Yeah
So, okay
There's I listened to a lot of automotive podcasts and especially right now where I have a ton of downtime where I have to
Just kind of be standing by to play nurse. Um, as best I can and so I just
Listening to podcast listen to audiobooks
And what there is a consistent theme I hear with podcasts, especially with uh, especially with off-road podcasts
Because you can imagine why this fits in there
But uh, not something not because we're listening to but there's a consistent failure in modifications
I see all the time and that is people not using loctite and I am
Myself have experienced this many times on my own projects where I'll add like especially like a rack to a motorcycle a rack to
The land cruiser. Yeah that one. Um
bumper parts anything you're bolting onto your vehicle
Get the loctite. Don't skip the step. Like I hear so this is consistently in
Across so many podcasts, especially like I was saying off-road stuff where stuff could just get rattled like crazy
Mortar cycles in my experience. Obviously, uh differentials even like
Don't skip the loctite. Make sure you know how to apply loctite watch videos. Um, loctite of all
Loctite is a brand by the way there. It's thread locker is what I'm talking about loctite the brand and perm attacks
Both have actually tiktok series and youtube series on how to apply loctite. What are the most effective methods to do it?
Hey, surprise the brand that makes this the brands that make the stuff are really
Like serious about you applying it properly so their product doesn't look bad
Well, if you apply it wrong and then it doesn't work then you blame the company not your right
Yeah, and it's really like application how you apply it makes a huge difference and you can't overdo it
You can underdo it. It's worth taking the time to be like, hey if you're gonna be an expert on something
That's and you're not really that mechanically inclined, but you want to do these little bolt-on projects learn
This is super important because stuff will rattle apart and it will ruin your day
You'll have panhard bars go loose which I've had experience with in the the bronco rafter and moab
Super simple fix it uh ford credit to them has a design on the rear panhard bar
Their panhard bars in general if you look at them up close have a really cool feature where
If the nut backs off or it gets loose, it doesn't lose it
It holds it in place in a little bracket. Oh nice. So even if the panhard bar gets really loose
It doesn't just fall off a lot of vehicles don't have that
but
That was just a simple simple fix add some loctite bolt it back on torque it down
But it's not just torque a lot of those applications most have a loctite
Ask they say use this loctite a very specific loctite blue red or purple yellow like
There were very few places you will use red
If you have red loctite you better know how to use it because that might as well be lock weld
It requires most red loctite applications require heat to remove it intentionally
There are some things like
Really big brake caliper brackets not not your average passenger cars. They don't but like big heavy equipment
You'll use red loctite a lot where stuff is just like a lot of stuff with tracks
It's probably not relative to a lot of our listeners, but stuff that really rattles a lot may use red loctite a lot of
That will require heat to take those off
But those things are torqued to like 1300 foot pounds and require heat
Yeah, but think about the load and the rattle they're under
But yeah, don't skip it on if you've got a rack if you've got something that doesn't require loctite in the directions
like so you've got a
You know a rack from some company like for the monkeys in the groves a lot of stuff comes from Thailand
Actually, I have a story for that after you're done
A lot of stuff for motorcycles comes from china
Thailand stuff wherever the market is they are and they may not list it
When in doubt
If you don't want to strip it if you're using aluminum bolts
You typically don't use blue loctite, but they have low strength threadlocker purple
Which is literally just made for vibration
Yeah, and it it cracks loose like with just a quick little turn
But it makes a huge difference in a pinch
I've learned this from the old motorcycle deals or motorcycle days
Nail polish
Yes, just clear nail polish actually works really good as a very low strength loctite
And mark your bolts if you have really big bolts and you're doing suspension
We've talked about this before because you'll know if they moved
Yes
Grease pen that stuff get a yellow or white paint pan grease pen
Do you want an oil if you use a paint pan you want an oil based one?
And you want to spray the crap out of what you're doing now with like bright cleaner
And then like let it dry and then put that on there
But that's a really great indicator for stuff that takes a lot of vibration and a lot of stress
Suspension components are a big one. Even if they don't require a loctite, you could mark them with that
But almost like the huge theme is when I came back to is I'm listening to all these shows
Is oh, we had a breakdown here. We had a breakdown here. We're doing this
It's almost always a bolt coming loose. Yeah, like and that causes stratic
Catastrophic catastrophic. Thank you damage when suspension stuff comes loose
Especially at speed or under high stresses like so and check your new stuff
The way I reason I say this is when I first picked up the monkey
A good friend of mine of ours took me took me out off of north fork
The monkey had nothing done to it yet. Yeah, and I got back and I had lost three of like the four
Clamp bolts that held on the front suspension had yeah
And because again it came it was torqued to spec at at the factory and probably when they put the bike together
But it was not torqued for my weight to go up and go rocking on the dirt road
So obviously now all of my bolts on the monkey have that just because of my weight and things like that
But yeah, I used the right. I think I used a blue. blue on that
Yeah, blue is a great way to go for most motorcycle applications
Like I said, unless you're dealing with aluminum bolts then use purple
um, you I guess you can use blue, but you want to make sure you've got
Like a really good grip on the socket and a little heat goes a long way with blue
Like it just takes a tiny bit of heat to melt blue away. Just gets it up there
Just a quick little dab with that to unlock it. Yeah to unlock it basically is the key
But yeah, you can strip out aluminum bolts
So I'm saying um, which are great
You'll find all over motorcycle applications
But yeah, just a quick dab of blue and then and what dan is saying is the loctite will hold the bolt so hard
That if your socket isn't absolutely correct, you will strip the top of the bolt is what he's yeah
and so with motorcycles you can buy bolt kits, um, but if you do
The track guys are here and mean and know this already
You're going to carry a spare selection of your most common bolts like lug nuts things like that
Off-roaders you probably want to look at your tie rod ends
You're probably carrying extra tie rod ends and things like that for the real hardcore guys
Who aren't just overlanding even the overlanders you should probably carry extra tie rod ends
But yeah, just a quick look at your bolts a quick dab
Like that is mandatory prep for an off-road trip especially but even on a road trip on my road cars
We typically that's something I check I pull them up
I just check out the suspension the brake components, especially if I've worked on my own brakes or my own suspension
No, I don't blame but yourself. Yeah, no one to blame about myself
But yeah, it's just one of we're getting into that driving season for
Everything in the Pacific Northwest if you're somewhere else and you've had sunshine for months. So you're like, yeah, I'm way ahead of you guys, but
Yeah, anyway, that's our carter automotive tip of the week use that loctite check those settings
Mark your bolts that are going to come loose
If you got a motorcycle now, it's time to retorque all those and I mean I'm assuming you could
We haven't checked this but you can go to the loctite site and they will help you figure out which one you absolutely do. Yeah, yep
and
factory service manual they
It's rare, but I have seen it on motorcycles actually. I don't know if it's true on trucks somebody tell me if this is true on trucks and cars
There's an extreme
They they often will list an option for loctite based on how you use it
Just like a lot of things like for extreme use cases like they you know, it's like service maintenance advisories for people who use it
They call it extreme
Circumstances are extreme duty like a lot of trucks have that yeah like where you half life your air filters
You know if there's if you're riding driving off-road the rafters have that
But motorcycles have that too and even half life is pushing it. Yeah, it's really pushing it if you're in the desert
You're like, yeah, go for a drive change your oil in your filter. Yep
Both on motorcycles too. Yeah. Yeah, especially motorcycles. Yeah. Yeah, cool. Yeah
so
It's driving season Kate and I bought a new Subaru
Forester sport hybrid, which by the way, I love I've talked about it already
But like I just put a tank of gas in it and I've gone almost 500 miles and I still have yeah
I just just saw it. Yeah, this is the first I saw it for the first time today and it really is beautiful
It's a nice car again. I mean with our connections and and all the wonderful people at Carter, but
We decided so ironically it's funny
I wasn't I thought I'd be the only one bringing up Swedish today
But you he brought it up
But Kate starts her new her new adventure and a new job with Swedish here in Issaquah on Monday
And so we decided this last week. She had the week off. We were going to go do something fun
She has talked about this since the day I met her
The Kingfisher Lodge and Spa up north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island
And so we decided to do a one just a quick one-day trip up there got a quick package. They have a really cool
Um, I want I want to it's I use the term water experience, but it's not it's all these it's water caves
And there's different baths like as far as salt water and like there's a waterfall room where you can sit in different places
And then there's a river walk where you walk in warm water than cold water. It's a really she's talked about
Oh, I'm just looking at the site now. This place looks beautiful. It is absolutely gorgeous
I mean there were I guess they were just they were american eagles because they're up there
They're not they're just geese up there. They're not Canadian geese, but there were eagles everywhere
We drove up
We left and and Kate is one of the most prepared people I know minus Dan
So we left we knew that the car was brand new no plates. So we took all of the paperwork
We took all everything we were going for a day, you know, we literally went up Wednesday came back Thursday
um
Went up when we got to the canadian border
It was us and I don't mean it was just like I mean I mean there was one border guard
One gate open no other cars. Yeah, and she goes. Where are you going?
Any guns? No any drugs? No cool. Bye
Through I mean maybe 12 seconds. Yeah
uh, and we again, uh, we took the
Tawasin Sawasin ferry. Yeah, I don't know. Let's do um, uh, and then
Over to Nanaimo and drove up 19
When I when we came back down the next day, I went down 19a, which I think is the original road and it goes along the water
absolutely gorgeous
Did not I saw one supercar the whole time there was a Mercedes SL
Uh, I I would expect you to see a lot more because I mean the roads were beautiful. It was 80 degrees
We went to a fun place called goats on the roof if you've never heard of this
It's literally like this little commune that they their roofs are grass and during certain seasons
They have these two goats that it sit on the roof and that's that's the thing
The signs are classic picked up one for the cooler, you know, a little sticker
Nice, you can imagine a goat and a roof and what might be coming falling off the roof and there you go
um, so
We had a wonderful time. It was a good relaxing thing up to the point where we tried to come home
Um, we got all the way to what is the name of the town there at the border? Blaine Blaine
So we got I mean I I could see the booths that that's how close we were
It took us two and a half hour
No two hours to get up to the gate because they only had two gates open which I don't understand. They're efficient
It's government
And you know
When you don't know a system, but you know what's about to happen to you even though you don't know the system
I'm sitting there and this gentleman very nice gentleman. By the way, customer and border patrol agents. I I respect you
You know, um, there's some efficiency issues there. That's all I'm gonna say
But we pull up and he looks at me and he asks us a couple of questions
And he's taken he writes down the van and I watch the guy in front of me move a cone that's over into secondary and I'm like
Okay, he goes, okay, you need to proceed inside. Okay, and then I've never done this before
You know, Kate and I are joking the fact that we're changed now because we've been in secondary
Which by the way secondary is a different experience
And uh, we I pulled up there and the guy that moved the cone I go, where am I going?
He goes just follow this like like I'd asked him like I'd been told where I was going and I didn't know so
I pulled in and stopped and the drill is and I'm going to expose all this. It's nothing
You roll down your windows you get out your car with your phone
You leave your key in your car and you walk inside
Yeah, and then you wait for an agent to maybe talk to you in the next hour or so
And then they talk to you and then they go outside and do whatever they want with your car
They we were not allowed to be out there to see the car anything
They come back in and then you are allowed to either leave or go upstairs in a room and where you get more talking to but
We think
It had to do with the fact that we did not have plates on the car yet
We have the we have the temporary plates, but yeah, that was the issue
But three and a half almost four hours later. We got out like it was it was absolutely chaos. Yeah
I don't happen wait
The drive and and vancouver was a beautiful the one thing we ran into which was funny and I kind of knew this was
I didn't think about it
We part of our package was dinner and and we love old fashions
And she goes, uh, she goes do you usually drink those with bourbon and I go, yeah, I'd love it with bourbon. She goes
Yeah, interesting thing. We don't have bourbon in canada anymore. And I go. Oh, yeah, it's americans
Yeah, she goes. Yeah, there's and she was trying not to be political
But I kind of got where she goes there were some people that decided that us normal people didn't need it anymore
She goes but she goes I think I have some so we'll figure it out
So we had a couple of some of the best old fashions I've ever had. I don't know what bourbon was in it
And I think it was in a jar that was unmarked. So if you go to canada, I don't know if it's legal take your own bourbon
Yeah, I think you can take one leader across you can't I they didn't ask me about alcohol
I mean again when I got to the border when I was coming back through they asked me about guns
Drugs like close to 19 times and it's like how many times can you answer the same question? So
But it was a great drive. It was a lot of fun. Um, but I would warn people
I can't imagine what this is going to be like with with FIFA coming up and things like that
Yeah, and Kate's like Kate goes well, that was bad. We don't have to do that again for a while
I was like, honey, I bought us tickets to acdc in august. We're going back to vancouver. So I said
I said, maybe we'll come through a different border crossing or something like that or take the truck
Yeah, but yeah, it was uh, I I don't want to discourage by then. Yeah, we'll have plates
but I just I don't want to discourage people but it it is a
Things are in lockdown if you don't know. I mean, there's there's a lot going on
I will say this uh, there was a nexus lane and people were flying through the nexus lane
Yeah, we were looking at I was like as long as we're waiting
I wonder if we could get nexus while we're sitting here. You can't know. Yeah
I don't think so doing the nexus process any of that stuff has probably been one of the most inefficient
Ridiculous things I've ever done. Okay, because do you have it? Yeah, okay
So one of the things that it takes forever if we drove up to blaine you wait there all day
I mean the process is quick once you're there
But getting to that process and here's the thing that pisses me off more than anything
Obviously we have our concealed we've hinted at that
Do they know that?
Yes
Oh, maybe that's why they asked me so many times because it was on there. So I mean, obviously it comes up
But I'm like it's the same background check a federal background check is a federal background check is a federal background check
Exactly. So you would think like hey because you've done all this work. We have your fingerprints. We know what you look like
We've got everything under the sun on you. Maybe just maybe. Hey, do you want to have nexus and all this other stuff as well add-ons?
Yeah, yeah, like just check here. Hey this instead of this and you can have all of it because you've just done the same process
We've asked you the same questions
We've asked you more questions if you've got a concealed a lot more
And you have to renew it all the like every four years over six years
Whatever
So you would think that kind of efficiency would be one of the easiest things in the world
But because it's the federal government and there's no money in the solution. Why would we possibly do that?
Government efficiency boys and girls. Don't worry. We should make it bigger. Anyway
Uh, I digress. I am just so annoyed with inefficiency when it's my entire job when I see such blatant inefficiency
I kind of want to start slapping people
Let me ask you again
Wow
You're too stupid. You can't breed. Please don't work in government
Anyway, I don't I don't have a I understand this is a sensitive subject and again. This is an automotive podcast, but
Um, it's very automotive. There was a lot of there was a lot of people standing around. Yeah, I know nothing
That that is where I I have the same issue when I drive through a construction zone
Yeah, and there's nine guys dying at one guy doing the work
But well considering all of our construction projects are double
If not triple if not quadruple in Washington state. Yeah. Yeah, it's really see that's the thing
It's like we've talked about this before
Out of my paying taxes if I know they're working when they're not working tell me hey, we did this it didn't work
We are going to change our policies. Yeah, I have no problem with saying what we did what we expected did not work for x reasons
Here's what they are
Especially government because nobody's perfect. No process is perfect and I expect it to improve based on knowledge you have
That is how it works trial and error. It's just like hey
We did this this overran because of this
Here's what it's going to cost
But no, it's just just throw more money on it and do it the same way over and over again
It everything from border crossings to road construction all this stuff. It's just like calm don't forget light rail
Yeah, which we all like that's the thing I get I get so mad people and say you can't believe you know
You guys don't want like no I would love light rail
What I don't want is to get a bid for a billion dollars and then it costs five and it's not done 10 years and we're still adding costs
That's what I don't want. I want light rail everywhere because I've been to europe
Or if they tell you you're gonna get a light rail and then they don't give it to you aka ballard. Yeah yesterday. Yeah, yeah
Again, we're we might we might be gracing a little too politically here
It's all transportation related. It's just so
Frustrating and then nobody's immune to it right or left
Does not matter what side you're on we're all sick of the inefficiency and just the blatant lies and they're constant
Yeah, so anyway, I do want to speak on a positive note of something you and I haven't been able to do
But we got to do last wednesday as we went to the avance social. Yes. Say let's talk about that. That was awesome. Absolutely amazing
It was so much fun to see everybody
To see nicole after a while
Shabby did a wonderful job putting on the event as she always does. Yeah, I'm not surprised. No, I'm not surprised at all
But just huge shout out to shabby like she's the her and nicole are the newest members are leading or
Leaders yeah members newest leaders in avance and they are just they're really doing a great job
They love their jobs. They care about their jobs. It shows. They care about the people in avance
Like I really have respect for them. That's what it was. It was a lot of fun
We had a great time and I just wanted to thank them obviously
Dan and I usually with our schedules. It's hard to do that even though that's literally the closest event to both of us
But I haven't been the salish and I don't know how long I didn't the changing of the guards there
So a lot of people we know that are now working back there
Um and the fact that of the the new rebuild and the new restaurants and everything is wonderful
Yep, so love you chris huge shout out to him
I know he was really not feeling well actually until the day of like he had a lot going on and he
Came back pulled that off as he always does and they always take amazing care of us
We always say
Say let's just the place you go
And the only place you go where you can actually trust about lays
Yes, because they have a huge respect for the car community and they know that like they know what's riding on it
And so and they know most of us know them all by name
So they take really good care of us. We were laughing because I pulled into the uh the valet to have the truck valet and um
Then I tried to call my wife
And I didn't realize that I was close enough to the truck that it was going through the truck
The guy pulls up to me and goes I can hear your whole conversation
We weren't saying anything rude. I was just like, where are you kind of thing? But yeah, it was a lot of fun. So yeah, uh
I rode the monkey had to show up that gt3. I was parked next to you know
And it did I mean which was a very small margin considering that beautiful gt3
So yeah, some of those cars that must think that modified mustang. Oh, yeah, that musting was gorgeous
If you haven't seen go on the avance, uh, facebook page
There I know there were pictures of everything that they I don't know who was doing the photography, but they did a great job
Yep, so exactly a huge shout out to metropolitain as well
Uh, I ran into charles at the event actually telling me they are starting to do way more social stuff
Uh, if you don't know our friends, you know s tech is a huge part of the show and they do
They are now doing window tint and metropolitain has hired a specific window tinting person. They have a very specific
Uh, let's just say they got some really really great talent. They always do but they got some
Window tinting uh royalty. Yes to do their window tint as you'd expect for metropolitain detail
but uh, I didn't record the show in time because of the hospital stuff to
Give a shout out to them
But they had they are doing more events like cars and coffee events with metropolitain
They're partnering with local coffee shops and local places and metropolitain is working with that
So s tech is engaged and yeah, I want to talk about that as I do. I was just looking at that
Yeah, uh
So yeah, I check out our friends at metropolitain detail check out our friends with s tech
Of course who we put on all of our vehicles
I got s tech tint on the r8 next to me and it's beautiful and keeps the car cooler
So, uh, if you're looking for tint like the high-end stuff metropolitain, of course s tech tint
Hands down the best there is
I agree
More of on snooze. We got to talk about the awesome work that daniel piker continues to do
It just I didn't know it's coming now. Did I and that's a previous guest that's been on the show. Yes
Um, uh, if you haven't seen the latest I would say snip it real. It's a real
What do the kids say these days the real um of of a bong who we've had on the show
I don't know how long ago that was. Um, but I don't know if the build just finished or what it is
But it's his new 9 11 with a uh, it's a k-swap the k-swap turbo k-swap 9 11, you know, because why not?
Yeah, he always thinks outside the box. I love it. So it's a great reel. I know they just posted it
Uh, I don't know when it was but I just it just came across my
My page. So, uh, and I was like, hey, I know that guy. Yeah, I know about those guys. Yeah
Yeah, so yeah, if you're not checking out the social media though, uh, guaranteed it's not trash. It's not advertising spam
It is just awesome content. Yeah, and daniel piker has taken it over the top with the quality
Like it if you know daniel's work from photography before like his video stuff is just as good
He is incredibly talented his work shows through and he's an excellent represent representative of avance and our members
And if you watch the video, it seems like he's stalking the members, right? I don't I don't know that that wasn't staged
He didn't know bonded noise there
Yeah, it's a fantastic video. It's worth checking out, especially to see I like you said
I love people think outside the box like that. I would be the guy who would be throwing
Of something else. I want a Ferrari 308 and I want to junk the motor and transmission immediately and do something like that
I don't know what I keep going back and forth. I want to put it in it, but that's like
That's my that is my retirement goal
I'm gonna bastardize the hell out of a 308
Well, I was talking about it in the video
He's like he's like if I did this with an and rebuild the Porsche motor be 50 60 thousand dollars
He goes, I can get this motor for like 800 bucks. Yeah
And then completely rebuild it keep it perfect. Yeah, and it looks awesome looks beautiful
And it probably drives better than any
Sounds amazing too. Yeah, it does. So, uh, yeah purists be damned
Unfortunately, I will
I will eat those words as we talk about our next topic. No
purists not be damned, uh
Oh that Benedetto Vigna
The soon-to-be former Ferrari chief executive, I'm assuming uh launched the luce
And um, we have to talk about it. I feel like it's been beaten to death, but um
I the best the best comment
I've seen is literally a reporter a serious reporter looking at the Ferrari and I don't know who it was and said
Is this a joke? Yes. It's okay to tell us if it is. Yeah
Uh former executive uh CEO of Ferrari. He went off. He went off and said he could not say more. He would damage the brand
Nissan huge shout out to me son. Oh my for I'm post. We're posting that on this podcast. Oh, yeah, okay
I have it saved. Okay. Good. Yeah, Nissan posted an ad
thanking Ferrari for praising their new leaf
Because it looks like a ripoff of a leaf. Yeah, and the leaf looks better
Uh, because it's not the dumbest thing. No, well looks better than the luce. Uh, the bar is low
There are some
I will give some credit where it's due. There are some interior design elements that I thought were creative
Uh, the way the dash the gauges on a $30,000 car maybe exactly, but not
This is an all-electric Ferrari
Designed by a guy that used to design iPhones
Yeah, and it looks looks like it looks like it. Yeah. Oh, it's also $640,000. Yeah, and uh, he's the
Whatever his name is. I'm not even gonna remember. I forgot the name of the the company that that did it. Yeah, but benedetto
Oh, no, I'm talking about the
Let's back up here. Ferrari used to have all their cars designed by pen and farina and they were gorgeous
They still are I mean, yeah, and they decided that this was the route that we're gonna go down
Everybody told them not to just so we're clear when this when this dropped. Uh, Ferrari stock
I think went down almost six and a half percent at the time. Yep. Uh
Yeah, this has been the worst vehicle launch I've seen since jaguar, but it has surpassed jaguar in my opinion
Hold my purse. Yeah
Yeah, jaguar was already kind of sunk when they launched theirs and it actually makes their car look good
I would compare this to the failure and the joke of the cybertruck in a way where it's so polarizing
But at least people looked at the cybertruck and said, well, at least it was different
It's in it and the cybertruck to be fair is $100,000 not 640. It's even less than that now if you want to use cybertruck
They're a bargain, uh, but this is probably going to be the fastest appreciating car maybe ever
I would guess it's probably going to be worth 200 on the used market
Even then I don't think I wouldn't buy it. it at 100
I was having a conversation with somebody who remained nameless
Who's a ferrari collector in california through my concurso collection connections about this and he said
He said I am really worried as being a collector that they are going to
This is going to be one of those cars that ferrari requires people to buy
In order to stay on the list for the new for the big cars. Yeah, and he said that will probably
really
eliminate a lot of people because
It's fine. He goes. It's fine to buy
Aroma aroma aroma or a thing like that because those cars you can drive a little bit
You can get rid of it and then I'm on to my next car. I'm buying he goes
But this is a nice car. He goes. I wouldn't he buy this from my worst enemy. No
It's it's absolutely. I mean it you can't you can't have a car that is this hideous from a car company that's meant to be luxurious and
One of the best in the world and their newer designs are already controversial. Yes, like a but testarosa and all that
Yeah, but now they're talking about bringing back a testarosa with a manual probably because they have to
I don't think they have a choice, but at least they're listening in that regard
But also ferrari has been building a brand new factory in marinello to build all these electric the new
They were going to do multiple cars. I don't think they'll do anything. No. Yeah, I don't I don't think I mean there's there is a market for these
but unlike
I think unlike a lot of other vehicles like the jaguar or the cybertruck the new Audi EVs that are coming
You're going to spend $640,000 and kids are going to laugh at your face and tell you you're an idiot
This is not a car. I don't know anybody who likes this car. I have not seen a single
positive report
I've seen people try and put big spins on it and then the comments are just like you guys are stupid
Stop defending something you know is bad. I mean the memes are amazing
Obviously a lot of the the automotive youtube is I mean i'll use me 150
It's like he is a positive guy and he can put a spin on everything and even watching his review of it was tough
Because it's like you're trying to say something good. So the brand doesn't blacklist you right
But I mean and then there are people like daily driven exotics who were like
This is the ugliest piece of shit. I've ever seen in my life. They don't care. Yeah, that's their whole thing
But yeah, which is the way you should be by the way, but most people are coming out and saying they're just it's
I'm I'm almost wondering like obviously that the ceo needs to be re re re thunk. I mean re thunk
They need to rethink the ceo
This is a public. public company now. So they're
The outside pressure will oh, yeah, this is not just like oh, we're Ferrari. We can do what we want
There's going to be people going
You lost me millions of dollars that day. Yeah, plus what it took to to develop this piece of and here's the thing
Is like I realized that the design is probably
Looking at how cars are designed and seen how they are across the world
This looks like they're trying to break into the very very big chinese market, which is
growing continuing to grow with luxury cars
Even they don't like it because why would you buy that when you can buy buy a byd for 60 000?
And it's a better vehicle in every way
Like you said if this car if they fray came out and said this car is a 100000 dollars
They would sell
Yeah, they'd be like sure
Absolutely people would buy that car because it's a Ferrari and it's different and it's at a price point where it makes sense
But six and a half times that it's just not going to and with the Ferrari name. I think they could go 200
And say okay, here's our new entry level Ferrari just like the roma. Here's our new entry level Ferrari
It's an electric car. You got to buy one so you can buy these three other cars fine
I think it's stupid still
But it would sell and people would buy it and it would be fine
But 640 000 dollars exactly like you said
No, people are going to start buying mclarence and lamborghini's and lamborghini said
They are so glad they cancelled the ev plans because this is the dumbest thing they've ever seen
Yeah, but it's different the fact that if lamborghini went out and made the ureth completely electric people would still buy it
Yeah, and that was absolutely and that's kind of what they were going to do
Like I looked at the the lamborghini ev and I was like, oh, okay
This isn't bad and they're you know vokes wagon owner group, you know they're
It made sense like I didn't like it, but I didn't hate it either
I was like, okay, it's not for me, but it doesn't have to be you know
I understand it's a lot of cars aren't for me
But votes wagon knows how to do it because you look at that that four-door outie the e-tron
Yeah, okay, and then you look at the one of my favorite car in the world is that Porsche panamera
It's the with the e the e-havera turbo s or the no the shooting break. Yeah the cross-terismo. I love that car
I wish Porsche would put an engine in that car. Like that would be absolutely amazing. Yeah, give me that
In the rsx. Absolutely. Yeah, like so
I mean it can be done. So I don't understand why nobody said
This is a bad idea
Yeah, like what is your whole crew so tone deaf and so afraid of their ceo
But they can't see this is the like this was obvious
like in
But it's been the trend lately
Cross companies just doing really really stupid things bud light harley davidson
What else there's things you just don't do it not because they're here's the clarification on what you just said is important
It's not because what they did is like
Uh, what's the word not knowing their audience? It's the exactly that's what it is. It's you don't do it because you don't know your audience
It's not wrong. It's just that marketing and that advertising works to advertise to that market
But that those people aren't aren't your customers necessarily exactly. How does your brand?
How does your leadership be so far removed from their audience and it's like it's isn't like trying to sell something
It's trying to shove it down people's throats and say like it and that doesn't work
Especially at that price point even for ferrari
like if they you said the what's the
Why am I drawing a blank the suv? I've only had a few hours of sleep. Sorry. You're song way appear song way
Like that was super polarizing because it was an suv and it's a for you know, it's a ferrari
But it's on paper. You're like, okay
The company's got to make money. This thing will sell to the right audience just like the astin as just like the asa marn dbx
Does just like the Lamborghini urus does like okay? I get it. It's not something
I am in the the tax bracket to own and if I was it's probably not where it's been my money because of the way I live
But there are a lot of people who will and there it's a beautiful suv for what it is
It's growing on me like yeah, so it absolutely has like
I was a big fan of the ff
Because the idea if you remember when the ff came out and they were ferrari was driving it up a ski hill like come on
Yeah, and so like even if it's even if you don't really like it
You understand where the company's coming from you understand shareholder value you understand how the market works and you're like, okay
This makes sense
Like I'll give ferrari a little crap for it because I think they should make sports cars
And that should be like the purest thing that they do because it's ferrari
You can export suvs too. That's fine. Yeah. Yeah, I just I think ferrari of all brands
Should have stuck to the no we don't do this to crap
We make bespoke cars everybody wants in limited quantities and they are worth a mint and you're gonna pay out the bud if you want one
Instead I like I just don't when they became public things went downhill
Those two things happen the same room in the fact that they put somebody designed the 296 speciale
Which is one of I love. Yeah, that's really free car. I'm not a huge fan of the testarossa
It will grow on me
Yeah, and then this like I you could put both those on the board
And you go this doesn't make sense and ferrari you make v12 you make you can make screaming v8 twin turbo
Whatever you want to do. Obviously v10s was always lamborghini and outie, but
As was as with as I've said before if you hate something or if you love something you should know why you hate it
You should know why you love it. I hate it because the design. I think to me is not original
I think it's lazy and overpriced
Um somebody so and I didn't realize this that obviously the guy that designed it did design the iphone by the way
Yeah, it looks a lot like the apple car. Yes, it does
Not only just a decent like it looked like he may have cut and copied and pasted a little bit. So yes, yeah
I think the design is lazy. I think apple by the way came out with and then went
Oh, this was a bad idea and went it went away. Right. I think it went away. Yeah
It was apple quickly determined. It would be too expensive to do this
And make any money on it for a long time because they were going to sell it at a price point where people could buy it
Exactly. Yeah. Yeah, so
Um, but I hate it because it's lazy the design is does not look inspired original or anything like ferrari just looks like
It honestly looks like ai trash and the reason I say that is because if you ask ai to improve it
It makes it amazingly better in every way
No, so I'm going to put on my big tinfoil hat for a second here because I've been thinking about this from a okay
Why did ferrari do this?
What is causing ferrari to do something so
Obviously repulsive and dumb
And I'm always like there's got to be a reason and I started looking at who are ferrari's biggest investors right now
Um, mostly ferrari stock is still privately owned
Um, but they're two biggest investors beyond that are black rock and vanguard
Shocking, right? Yeah, black rock and vanguard have huge huge stakes in ai
Probably more than any other investment companies in the entire world. It's black rock and vanguard
What are people doing constantly because of this vehicle?
Oh, they're using ai you're using ai to improve it because it's a royal piece of shit
But what do you do when you want to drive up ai usage through the freaking roof?
That's something ugly on the internet though people will grab and okay grab something that'll put ai through the roof
Oh, that that's that is an interesting tinfoil
So what are we doing more and more of?
We're launching a bunch of crap products that people are using ai to improve in big ways
And then do you take those improvements as free marketing and then you take those and make the real product?
Oh, pretty. I'm nodding my head because this is my big tinfoil hat as someone who's heavily invested into ai
Uh, this is a great way to drive ai usage through the roof for people who wouldn't normally use it
If they're not using it, they're soaking up that ai content. They're driving those views now
Here's the other tinfoil tinfoil side of the head of this people on the sorry if I've lost you guys in the show
But here's my other thought facebook usage is mostly trash. There's a theory we talked about briefly before called dead internet
Where about I don't know. I think facebook. Have you seen zuckerberg's yacht sitting down? We drove by it yesterday. Yes
Here's what we're talking about
80 dead internet means that basically all internet traffic is driven by bots at this point
There's very few actual user interactions if you looked at linkedin circle jerk posts, you you know this for a fact
It's all just a bunch of trash or people who don't actually care about their company just putting up ai garbage and slop
Facebook is basically the same way facebook and instagram if you look at the videos
They're basically they're not just ai slop. They're they're reposts by bots over and again of the same content
And so if you took away the actual non-user content from these places like meta facebook and linkedin
They would collapse overnight like their shares would be worth nothing
And by this and i'm gonna put this in simple terms you go on to facebook
You don't actually see your friends and families posts you all you see is ads
All you see is ads and crap reposts and junk right everybody knows this it doesn't and it's not limited to facebook and meta
Instagram facebook meta everything linkedin it's all just trash now like i don't even look at it anymore like it
This is people like if everybody wondering like i didn't go through some like terrible thing in my life
I just got sick of using the internet so because i use it for specific things and
Social media unless you're in a group like avance
Where you have to find these specific little niches it's just useless. It's a waste of time and so
My theory is that by putting out extremely polarizing content even if it fails
Like dramatically for Ferrari publicity still good publicity exactly it drives up usage into areas where people are not going anymore
People realize more and more that these places if you look at younger
Younger generations. They already know these places are dead ends and useless. They don't like it
They go online to game. They'll do discord twitch things like that
But as far as facebook and instagram they're like that's for old people like this is just junk
Like they're actually figured out this stuff doesn't make any sense to use anymore minus avance on facebook go to avance on facebook
Well, no you can get our podcast there
Like I said, if you have these specialized groups, but you're going for this one content
You're not just going there to consume like oh, i'm gonna go get my news from from facebook. No, you're not
I delete so many ads every day off of facebook going not interested not interested
Yeah, I've tuned my algorithm to be like here's cute animal posts and car stuff. That's it
And we send it to each other and we send it to each other
Yeah, but my theory is is that by putting out this absolute garbage content
I mean the worst of the worst trash by that I mean the luce and ferrari right now
You can still drive revenue in roundabout ways and that's how you do it
So this is like everything being connected. I think it's just moving money
Because if you can increase vanguards and black rocks shares through the roof where they make so much money
They don't care how much they're going to lose on people not ordering there
Yeah, it's why nobody cares about the environment stuff anymore
Because there's too much money in destroying it with a data center works if the more data centers you can lay down
Like that's why the that's why everybody's saved the planet stuff went away
Because all these companies are like oh, we need data centers
We've got to tone down all of our save the environment stuff because we need to put data centers wherever we can't
Okay, yeah, so there's my tinfoil hat. Um
This episode brought to you by Reynolds rap
Yeah, no
It'll last you years. Yeah
Depending on how many hats you're building
Yeah, it's it's tough obviously
I have searched I searched really hard to find some positive stuff
And really the only positive thing that has come out of the luce is the fact that it has physical buttons a lot
There's a lot of yes. I love the physical buttons. That's about the only thing people are like it's it's cool. I mean
To engage the mode you you grab a water bottle top and pull it down
Yeah, it's a physical button
If you haven't seen the new elect cool stuff, uh, this is kind of gone through it hasn't gone through the media
Nearly as much as I thought it would have you seen the new poll store, uh, roadster
It's beautiful. Okay. It is beautiful now poll star people have
Our generation really relates to Volvo poll stars actually a chinese eb brand. They're built in china for the most part
They haven't put the car here because of tariffs, but it's uh
For those of you waiting for the vaporware of the tesla roadster
This is a really significant competitor to that. It's supposed to be about 150 200
But it's actually beautiful. It is a really good looking sports e.v. If you haven't checked it out do that
I'll put a photo up. Yeah. Yeah, I'll try and find one. That's a good one
But yeah, there's some good electric stuff coming out. I don't put it up in the ai shit. No, I won't I might
Uh, I also was going to say, uh, even though scout is delayed
Uh supply chain issues costs are going through the roof
I think that was the biggest miss for ferrari right there
Is if they had done a range extender version of an actual not an sgb like a scout
I don't mean competing with scout
But I mean like there are a lot of things in the scout that I really want to see other eb people adopt
They're basically going to um rumor has it
I don't I don't take it too seriously yet that scout may drop the full eb model entirely
Because there's only like five percent of their orders were for the non-range extended version. Oh, that's so weird
So weird, right? Don't be wrong. It's not a hybrid. It's a generator built onto the thing for extended range
Which I think is the way to go that makes by far the most sense
They can pivot dodge pivoted with the the electric charger and put an engine in that yeah like a week
Yeah, yeah, yeah and shout out to dodge for bringing out more cool stuff. They're they're on the rebound
Oh my god, the trucks that are coming out. Oh, yeah, I know we're at time
But there's that's one thing I want to talk about too and there's a new hummer coming out the yeah, yeah
But dodge released. I think it's the right truck at the wrong time, unfortunately
But I'm still glad they're doing it because it'll they're basically replacing the the viper truck. They're doing a
Rumblebee. Yeah rumblebee 700 horsepower
There's like three versions. I think yeah, there's a yeah three different versions of a sport truck
They're coming back into the road sport truck model, which I just think is cool as hell
This is also the problem like I go on and I see an ad like that and I was like I want to be excited
But is this real? Yeah, and with dodge it. It is. Yeah, it is
They dodge is really really getting back in touch with their audience and like I said
Even if you don't like them, I wish them all the success because I want more American brands
I want more competition in the market. I want to see
Ford I mean Ford's already got the supercharger option on theirs
But if I would love to see some competition from Ford and Chevy for this because Chevy obviously had the classic ss truck back in the day
Ford had the actual lightning not the electric one, but a real lightning
Which I think like they could still say that's the fierce lightning people. Yeah, which Ford
Hey, listen here. Make a hybrid lightning truck not an electric but a hybrid lightning
Take the lightnings and do like dodge did and put an engine in it. Yeah, so you gotta do
Drive the front wheels like you like Chevy is doing with the 01 and all their
Hybrid models do that like that would be an awesome truck. I don't more people use us
I don't I don't this we're putting the good information out there. I think we actually are too
We just have a lot of experience being right
Scout yeah, yeah, so but yeah, hopefully scout comes back soon Rivian launched the r2 configurator
Which looks great and it's a great price point Rivian's doing really well
Everybody loves it for good reason more power to them. There are good electric options out there
So I just I like seeing that price come down because you get in that 50 60 range
I love the a lot options the r1 the s of v1. I love the r1 truck too, but yeah, I love the r1 s. Yeah
Well, I mean that this is a lot in one episode. We understand you're probably yelling at the radio and that's great
We don't do this to create controversy like maybe ferrari just did to create a i but
Give us your opinion, you know, we always love hearing that stuff
And you know, if you want to come in and talk to us about your opinion, we can do that. Yeah, yeah
Question of the week. I actually thought of one
what
Evie brands have really stood out as doing something right in the last
Like just the last few years like what's coming up that has you excited. Actually, that's a better question
What is coming up that has you excited for us? It's obviously the new scout
I just even if you don't like the ev part of it. I love the bench seat. I love the range extension
I love the design elements. They're putting into that truck. Sure. I really wish it was an actual hybrid
I think it would do better as an actual hybrid and I would buy one if it was an actual hybrid with a v8
In a drivetrain. Yeah, I would be all over it. Uh, so what is coming out coming up that has you excited
We would love to hear some good news on this front. Yeah. Yeah, give us give us your opinion
Yeah, all right. Well, let's wrap it up for this episode of the advanced podcast as always i'm nick and i'm dan
And don't just get there. Enjoy the drive
About this episode
The Avants Podcast bounces from road-trip chaos to hands-on vehicle advice and then into Ferrari’s polarizing EV pivot. Hosts swap stories about being detained at the border in a brand-new Subaru Forester, including questions about “guns or drugs” and delays near Blaine. They then share a service-department “tip of the week” on using Loctite/threadlocker, correct torque, and even nail polish for vibration-prone suspension fasteners. The rest of the show turns to Ferrari’s Leaf-like design backlash, allocation worries, and range-extender vs hybrid EV strategy.
In this episode of The Avants Podcast, Dan and Nick cover everything from road trip chaos to the dismal launch of the Ferrari Leaf, we mean Luce.
Nick shares a quick getaway to Vancouver Island that turns into a four-hour border detention saga (yes, really), while Dan recaps time spent as a temporary food delivery person during a hospital stay and discovering one of the best burgers he’s ever had in Seattle.
From there, the conversation shifts back to cars. They break down real-world lessons from off-road and motorcycle ownership—including why something as simple as using Loctite can save you from catastrophic failures.
The episode also dives into the latest automotive news, including new EV trends, upcoming trucks, and a brutally honest reaction to Ferrari’s controversial new bomb.
Plus, shout-outs to the Avants community, highlights from recent car events, and a discussion around where the industry is headed—both the good and the questionable.
