Lincoln Tech is a school that teaches job skills with hands-on training. The hosts are talking about how big their campus is and the kinds of shop classes they offer.
They’re talking about trade schools—programs that teach practical skills—rather than only going to college. The point is that hands-on training can help people get job-ready.
A welding bay is a specific area in a shop where people learn and practice welding. It’s like a dedicated work spot with the tools needed for that job.
Term
diesel stuff
They’re talking about classes and equipment for diesel engines. Diesel training usually means learning how to inspect and repair diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
Term
welding booth
A welding booth is a protected work area for welding. It helps keep sparks and fumes contained while someone practices the craft.
Vocational schools teach practical skills for specific jobs. Instead of spending years on general classes, students learn hands-on trade skills that can lead to a real career.
Machining is making parts by cutting and shaping material with machines. It’s important because many mechanical parts have to be made very precisely to work correctly.
Job placement refers to how a training program helps graduates find employment, often through partnerships with employers, career services, and structured pathways into specific roles. The hosts mention it as a topic they’ll get into, framing it as a key outcome of technical education.
The idea here is that what employers need right now affects what schools focus on teaching. If companies are hiring for certain skills, the school tries to train students for those jobs.
Term
under a hood
“Under a hood” means working on the engine area of a car. The hosts are saying some students are drawn to hands-on mechanical work right away.
A diesel tech is a mechanic who works on diesel engines. These are common in trucks and heavy equipment, and the episode says this kind of training is in demand.
Career services are the people at a school who help students look for jobs. They can help with things like finding openings and getting ready to apply.
Paint and repair is the work of fixing car damage and then repainting it. It usually includes preparing the surface and using the right methods to make the car look right again.
“Low voltage” just means the electricity level is smaller than the main power systems. In car-related training, it usually covers wiring and electronics that control things like sensors and lights.
“High voltage” means the electrical system uses much more power than normal wiring. It usually requires extra safety training because it can be more dangerous.
“Tractor trailers” are the big trucks you see hauling freight. If a school has bays for them, it means students practice on real large vehicles, not small cars.
They’re talking about learning by actually doing the work instead of just reading about it. In car training, that means practicing repairs in a real shop.
“Master” here doesn’t mean a type of car. It usually means a technician has reached the highest level of training or certification. The discussion is about how a person becomes qualified to do more advanced repairs.
ASC certifications are official training credentials for auto technicians. The idea is that students earn them step-by-step while they’re in the program, and then they can keep progressing to higher levels.
Concept
level up in industry
“Level up” means moving to a higher career stage. In this case, it’s about getting more advanced training and credentials so you can qualify for more advanced technician work.
Recertification is the process of renewing a credential to show skills are current. The hosts describe it as part of the technician progression system: once you earn certifications, you either recertify or advance to higher levels.
This segment is about how technical schools and job-focused training can lead to better-paying automotive work. It frames education as a pathway into the industry and discusses how credentials can change earning potential.
Linking Tech is the training program the hosts are promoting. They’re saying it helps people build automotive skills and offers campuses in different locations.
They’re discussing school programs for two types of “newer” cars. Electric cars use batteries and an electric motor, while hybrids use a mix of a gas engine and an electric motor.
The hosts mention nationwide placement, meaning trainees are assigned to technician roles in different locations rather than staying in one local area. This is a key part of how the program converts training into real employment.
They’re saying the program is designed to lead to a specific kind of job. Instead of just learning skills, it’s meant to get you into a technician career.
They’re using a basic economics idea: if lots of companies need workers but not enough people are trained, jobs become easier to get. That’s why the program could be a smart move.
Lexus is Toyota’s luxury car brand. The school is offering training opportunities for students who want to work on Lexus vehicles.
Concept
workforce link through link and tech
This sounds like a program that helps students connect with real employers while they’re still in school. The goal is to make it easier to move from training into a job.
These are school programs that focus on learning job skills. Instead of just regular classes, students can learn hands-on trades like welding or auto work.
Car Star is a company/network that does collision repair and body work. In the episode, they’re described as a partner that helps students learn using real shop equipment and processes.
ADAS is the set of safety tech in newer cars that uses sensors and cameras. After repairs, those sensors often need careful calibration so the safety features work correctly.
The show is organized into multiple judging categories (“classes”), with seven different ones mentioned. This is a common car-show format that lets different types of vehicles compete more fairly.
“Import” here means a car made by a foreign brand (not from the local/domestic market). It’s being used to describe the type of car you can bring to the show.
They’re talking about a VR-style welding simulator. Instead of welding for real, you practice in a virtual environment so you can learn the motions and what it feels like first.
Virtual reality (VR) is when you wear a headset and get put into a simulated environment. Here, they’re using it to help people learn car-related skills like welding and painting.
A “sim sprayer” is a practice simulator for painting. Instead of spraying real paint, you can learn the motions and technique in a safe virtual setup.

LIVE
It is two guys right podcast. He is Kevin bird. I am really being fired up today
We got one of my boys on dude. You're gonna love this guy Josh Jones is this man's name he runs
Lincoln Tech have you heard of Lincoln Tech man? If you are you familiar with what Lincoln Tech is? Heck yeah, dude
It's one of the biggest like tech schools in the probably the world it dude. It's amazing, bro
It is amazing so I'm blessed here in Denver where their flagship campuses do a lot of things with
Lincoln Tech have done for years and I gotta tell you man you and I you as an engineer me as a guy in radio
You were you were taught growing up that you had to go to college and then after college
You had to go to probably get a masters and you know all this other stuff my dad for me was very you know
He's very strict. He's like you got to go this four-year college plan and the whole time man
The whole time in college. I'm thinking I said wow
You know it would be amazing to go to a trade college just to be able to pick up skills
You know when when I graduated high school
We still had shop for so many people in high school nowadays shops not there any longer
You know shops not a thing that they get in high yeah, dude, which is a travesty, right?
It's terrible. Yeah from your woodshop to your auto shop, right?
And those other variants that I you know, I got both which was huge for me, right?
Yeah, a lot of kids nowadays don't get don't get any of those
Yeah, man. It's it's shame and for so many people because let's be honest when it comes to guys guys are wired to build things like
Most men I know like to do things build things with their hands, you know, they like to
Accomplish that that's how they're they're wired. What is a man do he likes to build things take your own things?
That's a man's got to create, you know, that's the way we're wired
Well, this is a great resource for that Lingatech. It's just an amazing campus and this one here in Denver
It's it's unbelievable bro. It's like 200 and something thousand square feet
It's got like, you know 60 plus bays of welding. It's got bays of diesel stuff. It's got I mean you name it
It's got 128 welding boost dude think about that for a minute. You could you could pick a different booth
For months at a time
It is really is endless what you can learn there and the the time it takes to learn it is narrowed down
I really feel like a lot of kids a lot of young people
kind of get
Get believed and tosses believed that they got to go to a four-year college because four-year programs
You know this Kevin turns into six years totally bamboozled. Yeah. Yeah
They get bamboozled into some
You know book path that has no end to it. Yeah, right? No no happy ending, right?
Absolutely now that it's it's great and and you know, I've done both right
I kind of I like both spaces so I end up kind of continuing it on through engineering
But the whole way through right I went to vocational schools
I was professionally trained in welding and mechanics and machining and I just happened to keep
Following a path that ended up in engineering, but I
100% get it like yeah man and and have been through all the experiences and it's great
And it's for me even though I didn't do it full-time. It's one hundred percent
100% been a part of kind of what I've done my whole life
You know, so the the tech the tech and vocational dude for the right the right person
And what you can gain from it at the end like the solid career path a solid job
Oh, it's amazing and the satisfaction when you can build something fix something right machine up parts diagnose
It's
Can't be matched. No, you're right. It can't be and I know Josh eight Josh welcome to show man
Welcome to podcast. Thanks for your time, man
That's gotta be a big thing for you is cuz you're gonna see these kids from the moment they walk in to the moment
They leave we'll get into that job placement thing you guys have working for you in a moment
But how rewarding is it for you to see these kids come out spend not four or five or six years?
But a year to year and a half get get the you know, the education they need and get that career path started, bro
Yeah, it's a beautiful thing right where you know, you have students that are coming to us
And you know, you walking through our our front doors of the campus and you've never stepped foot in our building
There's gonna be a wild factor
Regardless of you know, if you're a student if you're a parent if you're just visiting and passing by if you're a partner
Everybody that walks through those doors. It always catches them off guard a little bit
You can see our sign glowing in the dark from
I-225 and and then I 70 but once you walk in through those doors and you hit that lobby
You're kind of taking back a little bit like wow and then you know walking through the building
You're our admissions team. They do a great job of you know showing showing the school
In the perspective students. Hey, you know, here's here's what could be but once students get started
They usually have somewhat of an idea of like yeah, you know, I'm hands-on
You know, I'm a visual learner
I know what I want to do what I'm passionate about and then those things start happening and they start
Introducing themselves into all these different concepts and we have faculty and staff that have been there done that
taking them through showing them the ropes and
And then you know, we're just a means to the end
Students don't come here just for that to be able to get some skills and learn from some great folks that've been in the industry
They come here because they really want to do a career doing
Getting to a career doing something that they love and you know, like I said, we're the means to the end
Amen. Well, we're gonna talk about that career path. Let's take a break. We'll get into it
My man Josh Lincoln Tech dot edu jump online. Check it out
We're back talking about that on the two guys garage podcast with Kevin Bird and Willie B. See you after the break
It is two guys garage podcast here's Kevin Bird I am Willie B
We got our boy Josh Jones on from Lincoln Tech
So look if you're a youngster out there and you've been thinking I don't really I don't see a path
Through college and whatever is after college most people hit college in a four-year plan
It ends up being a five-year plan sometimes even a six. So if that's not your hey, what don't don't kick a man while he's down
But look this is one of those things man where I love the fact that you can get the the education you need and
Pursue that career inside a couple years like to me. That's a huge
That's a huge reason to consider Lincoln Tech on top of everything. They have like
Josh, what is the number one biggest thing in demand in your opinion at Lincoln Tech?
What skill what trader people coming into your campus?
Learning and picking up that you feel like is the biggest in demand out there because there's a lot of we're gonna get into a bunch of
Yeah, so
Industry will direct our demand from a standpoint of we have the programs that we offer and there's six great programs, right?
And students they may be wild by you know the flash of light and welding and the fire and the torches or you know being under a hood
And they've been you know, it's been in their family for years and and they're expired
And that's really what they want to do, but the industry is telling us. Hey, we need diesel tech
True and the students coming in they're like, no, I want to do what I want to do automotive and industry selling this
No, we need diesel techs, right?
So it really depends and fluctuates and the reason why I'm on diesel techs is because right now
That's what the industry's telling us. They need diesel techs
So do you have like counselors or people that you know
Students can come in and chat with and kind of get some of this feedback and advice and they can mull it over or yeah
So, you know students
We try our best to meet students where they are right where you know
A lot of students they're going to come in with a general interest and that interest is going to be
It's going to derive from multiple places of motivation, right?
Whether it's something that's been in their family is something that you know, they've kind of dabbled in or
Maybe they've you know, just watch the YouTube video and they're like, you know what this looks cool
Let me go check it out. They offer that Lincoln Tech
They've done the web search and now they're at a front door
we see students that come in from many different walks of life for many different reasons and
Our goal is to meet them where they are have a 90-minute conversation that includes a tour of the campus and
We're gonna, you know, allow them to be able to make an informed decision at the end of the day, right?
And we're gonna show them. Hey, here's some demand statistics. Here's some information on, you know
Our success rate of our students. There's some information on the program and the learning outcomes
Here's some information on the types of career students are getting once they leave these programs and then we really put that
You know to the student to be able to make an informed decision and once they do
Then we take them on that journey. Yeah, and so much of it is left up to the student cuz Kevin where we shoot the show Tampa
Remember last time we went downtown in Eborg City to eat and there was where all the shipyards are
Every ship manufacturer had a sign welders wanted welders needed, you know welders here
Blah blah blah, so I'm sure it depends if you're a student you're thinking well, you know what I could come here
I could learn it, you know welding blah blah blah
But if I were to pursue where the money is or go where you know the dimes and the money are
I'm gonna take my butt down to Tampa and there's some big ticking stick well to make it make some money
But really I imagine these are these are things that when you learn you have that forever
You have that in your pocket, and you're just increasing your knowledge and wherewithal on that discipline, right?
Because this is almost name your price type scenarios with good diesel technicians and automotive technicians nowadays
Josh you got to see a lot of that in that diesel and technician everybody's starved for great technicians good technicians hard to come by nowadays
Yeah, yeah in our career services team, you know, they do a great job at helping our students find work
We don't we never guarantee anything but we do guarantee is the opportunity to help you
Get your foot planet right and industry related career field and we have the resources to be able to provide that help
So, you know our students that as they go through for example
We just had a career fair last week on April 3rd this career fair saw almost a hundred employers here at our school
From you know every discipline that we offer here at the school
We had somebody represented with an industry and our students were able to you know get either on the spot interviews or set up interviews after
I'm talking over 200 interviews that were sparked from this career fair that we had and you know
We put a lot of effort into making sure that yeah, you know our students they they come here to learn
But more importantly they want to get into that career field and you know, we're doing everything we can to make that happen
There's sometimes where you know the demand cause for diesel instructor diesel Texan
There may be even some spillover from our automotive students
Graduates that are going into diesel because the demand is so great and you know, they may want to switch over into that
So, you know, we see it fluctuate at times to get back to your original question like hey, what is it?
and the industry is gonna tell us that we do a
Professional advisory committees as well
Well, we have industry professionals that partner with us and they kind of direct our curriculum at times the time to tell us hey
these are these are the skills that we need texts to come out with right and we have our next
Committee meeting coming up in May, but you know just another great way for us to partner with industry to make sure that you know
We're open in the pathways and doors for those students
So you mentioned six different things at Ling and Tech you could learn I imagine so welding
diesel technician
Automotive technician
paint and repair
HVAC, what am I missing?
Electrical electrical there you go. Yeah, man
Something I hate. I probably should take that course
Electrical is our newest program. We just started that you know in 2023 and
You know, we grew that program from you know, we started off the first couple of months with about 30 40 students and now we're you know
Almost the 200 students in that program over that time span and it's one of our fastest growing programs
But once again, it's a response to industry, right? And you know, it's it's a great program for students to
You know come in and learn some great skills when it comes to low voltage a little bit of high voltage and an opportunity to get their
Foot started and plant it on the ground if they want to get into electrical now, you know
We know a little bit about the electrical field
As an entry point, you know and to be able to grow it takes a lot of hours of experience and things of that nature
So what we're gonna prepare students to do is come out entry level
Get the education behind them and now they're working on their work experience to try to you know climb that ladder
But we have some great instructors some that you know have been on the master electrician side some that
Work primarily in low voltage when it comes to fire security and safety and we're able to give our students a kind of a full circle
Curriculum to allow them to be able to take that in different realms of the electrical industry. So great opportunity for those students
You know and it allows us to also be able to add to our HVAC program with some of the electrical components
That's required there as well. So somebody comes in to whether it's the diesel tech would maybe start there
What what's kind of the turnaround time?
That somebody would spend to walk out the door highly educated and ready to get get on their groove
Yeah, so average of you know, 12 to 13 months
and you know, they can walk out with a diploma
automotive technician or
Diesel technician and then if they spend a little bit more time with us closer to 18 months
They can walk out within the socialist degree and either one of those disciplines think about that man
And they ask him how hands-on he he's mentioned
I think I did they have 18 diesel bays that we're talking tractor trailers can fit in bro
Like these things are enormous. You talk about hands. I've never seen a campus
Teach people like like they're on the rigs. They're in the rigs. They're under the rigs. They're like this so hands-on
It's unbelievable that that's a classroom. It looks more like a shop. You know, it's it's the same
Well for me, that's that's the best way to learn man like hands-on visual do it
You remember it you learn it because I did the book thing
Do engineering and it took me forever because I'm just not a book guy, right?
If I could have somehow did engineering by hands-on I would have got through a whole lot faster
And then comparison man, you said, you know, 14 months 18 months, you know
I spent years just trying to get my engineering degree, you know working part-time in there
So how many years did I not go out there and make money?
Because I was in school and how much more money did I spend on school?
So it's like a double negative, you know, like yeah, I'm not making money
And I'm spending it on school where somebody can get through your program
Liquity split and be out there earning some big coin. Yeah, you know
we always ask students and parents for that matter and family members to
Look at the trajectory, right? You know, you're gonna write your story and you're gonna, you know
Have a design how you how you want for hopefully right? We know in life
There's many on and off ramps and how quick do you want to get there and how quick can you get there?
We want to make sure that you know students do that level of thinking
But we also help them in that process by showing them the way at Lincoln Tech
And it's a beautiful thing when it all masters up and it work
So it if right because there's different levels that you can learn whether it's any of the particular programs
Do you have like higher level like like how does someone get to be a master tech?
Do they have to go on the field for a number of years?
And then pass some courses or do you have higher level courses where someone says man? I just I love this
I want to keep going. I want to go deeper
How does that how do you get to a master level and any one of these type of yeah?
That's that's a great question. So I can kind of break it down for you for example with automotive and you know the
the ASC
certifications that you know
Students can get while they're here
There's a level up component to the program that we just had it right where you know
we're going to help students and allow them to take
you know ASC test while they're here to start that certification process and
As you guys know in order to you know level up in industry these ASC certifications as you get them under your belt
You need to either recertify or level up and in terms of being a master tech
So we get them started on that journey while they're here, okay?
And you know, we're going to help them take the test as they go through the program
And obviously they need to pass the test and you know and show those skills
But we give them the platform to start that journey now. They're only here for a year
They're not going to be able to come out of here as a master technician like that
That's just it's going to take more time
But at least we're going to start them on that journey and give put some tools in their belt to be able to take it there
And then once they get an industry now
They have the platform and they have the playbook on how to level up because we've already instilled that in them
Yeah, man, so it's a smart way to go smart direction to take and that's just tip of the iceberg at what they offer
I feel like so many so many guys especially and and you know
We should bring up how many women women are coming in the programs
Fast and furious so so many guys and now so many women are finding their paths where they couldn't otherwise find it
And that's what's really been kind of cool because let's be you know
People graduate the business degree and now they're you know, barista's at Starbucks
It's just like man. It's it's here's a career path that you could take you could do something with man
And that career path that trajectory that that Josh was telling us about earlier, man
That's so dynamically changes
When you get some of these certifications under your belt and this this education like look for me
I took three years of Spanish in high school. I think I can say my pencil is big
Obviously, I didn't use it the stuff they're learning they use it they get right in the industry
They go from you know a couple ac certifications
You know to another ac certification if you walk it in a mechanic shop or any garage
If you have several these you know certs and these certificates you couldn't name your price
It's wild to see friends of mine that have gone in the last decade from making
18 to 20 bucks an hour to basically I got a buddy who owns a really nice upscale
You know repair shop and he's got mechanics that are making 50 bucks an hour
You know 50 48 dollars. He just hired a mechanic at 48 bucks an hour because the dude was that good
Think about that man. That is big money y'all and it could be yours
And the first step is is linking tech and we'll get into more of that after the break
But more on what career path might be right for you different things they have and the the time it takes to get them
Because in the end
Look man, we all want to be able to come home to the dime the the project car in the shop and you know
The the american dream of the house in the backyard
And I really think linking tech is a great way to achieve it
So more with josh more with kevin is the two guys garage podcast. We're back after the break
It is two guys garage podcast. He is kevin bird. I am willy b. We have josh jones on
He's the man at linking tech when you look up the man linking tech. That's it's josh. He comes up
He runs the the campus here at the Denver campus. What are their flagship campuses? There's I want to say there's 27
Josh, how many campuses you guys have across the country? I think it's like 27 21 maybe
We got 21 campuses across the country Denver campus is the furthest west
We have
Our grand prairie campus in texas kind of holding down the west and then most of our campuses you're going to see
In the east coast. All right, man 21 campuses all over the country
You know, you look at some of these things josh and and you mentioned electrical
There's automotive tech. There's diesel tech. There's auto body
curious
With so many cars going into that electric deal nowadays
Shifting into that sort of mode of transportation mobility
What do you guys have offered for that for the for you know, the up and coming electric cars and hybrids and
Everything that's out there. Do you guys offer any educational programs for those?
Yeah, so i'm gonna start with the program that we currently offer
Um our automotive program
We introduced a new curriculum last year and it's called electude and we have a full room that's dedicated to
to
Training modules that are all electric based. I mean it is amazing
This room has these different trainers and I mean they are like industry related trainers that you're going to see
at a lot of your
training facilities
And then on top of that that's just for our you know automotive service technology program and service management programs
We have a post graduate program that's baked into the school as well
And it's a partnership that we have with tesla, okay
Now we have a tesla training facility. It's built into the campus. They have
six bays
They you know, it's a tesla training program through and through. It's called the tesla start program where
You know, uh graduates will apply
To the campus or to uh to the tesla program. It's offered here at our campus
It's a 16 week training program if they're accepted into the program
They're actually hired on by tesla to um to get into that program and then they finish the 16 weeks
They're paid throughout and then they also are placed
Uh throughout the country at it as a tesla
Technician, so it's a pretty cool opportunity to you know, include include some some
Into uh, into what we're doing here and throw that in the mix
Talk about inroads
Right to a specific career path and a job, right when you're doing a tesla program and you rock that man
I bet you
That's almost like signing your name on your your actual job somewhere
Thank you, bro. Can you mind I had a buddy named carl
Who when toyota first moved in kentucky? He was our high school
Quarterback when he used to get all the girls
Um, he got hooked up with toyota when toyota was first doing that first
Uh plant just outside of kentucky there. Yeah, he got hired on in high school as a high school senior
He's now some upper management guy blah blah blah
Running all kinds of thing has like, you know hundreds of people under him
That guy has made millions just getting in early on in those programs and imagine nowadays
What a great move that is to make you you got a great company like tesla
They're they're actually paying the people you're working for tesla and then after the program
You can go and get hired by them and place at a tesla dealership. I mean man that is supply and demand
Uh and it's perfect form right there. I didn't get any better than that
So that's got to be a great program for a lot of people and i'm sure eager a lot of people are eager to get in that program too, huh?
Yeah, absolutely. You know, we we have that
It is it's pretty demanding
And you know, it's just competitive our programs that we have here competitive as well
Um, and you know, it's a great opportunity for students that want to go that route
Not every student wants to go the eb route
But if that's something that you desire and you're interested in we have a platform and a path to get you there
We also offer some
oem
programs as well and
These these programs that we offer here
Within the school are going to be some some free opportunities. So we offer one in audi
It's an audi aep 2.0 program
That if students while they're in our automotive program, they want to specialize in audi
We have this as a as a as a run-along they can take and co and coincide with their program
We also afford ace program
For students that want to get into forward genesis for students that want to you know find interest in those vehicles hondae
We have a mold power program that's built in and then we also have toyota lexus
That's built in as well
And these are some additions to what we offer you don't have to do this if you're in an automotive program
But it's an opportunity to scale up
And just like those ac certifications isn't a requirement, but it just provides another opportunity for you to
Just upscale and continually to add and put the tools in your bill
So we have these partnerships. They come in they talk to our students
We have a whole division called worse workforce link through link and tech and their goal is to
Connect students to industry and partner
And start that while they're in school. That's huge, man. What a benefit
You imagine how beneficial that would be for so many, you know, younger adults looking for that path
I mean, it's huge. Yeah, I just sometimes I don't understand
Why that's not so obvious, you know, there's there's people stuck and just
Jobs, they don't like doing, you know, mundane things and not making real good pay
When there's such a path
Right in front of you, you know that it's actually very very short and quick and powerful
To just kickstart and leverage yourself in a completely new direction
Now, I guess one question though, you know, I could see some people
Maybe you know struggling with the finance side. Do you have any recommendations there?
Um, right. I know when I went to college, man before long, I burned up everything I had and I took loans
right, so
Do you have guidance there on people how they can get loans and and
Kind of get themselves through because right for a lot of people especially depending on where they're at. Yeah, like
Do you have guidance there to help people? Kevin? I think that's that's a great question. I think a lot of times
What we see is, you know students still try to figure out life and you know, sometimes society
whether that's influenced from
you know, early educators or family members that says hey, you need this
route that happens to be a two or four year route, right? Um, or you actually
You know, you don't go to college. You just go work right away
We see a lot of those students after the fact and they've tried to figure some things out and
It wasn't in their face, right? Uh, you know, and and they didn't know about Lincoln Tech or or other, you know, career
and technical training opportunities until later on
And once they do find us we have ways to be able to help students figure out the finances
And I don't think that is typically the biggest issue. It is just the
The understanding that we are an option, right?
And to be able to get into the high schools and get in front of students as an option and not to say
Hey, you have to come to Lincoln Tech, but also Lincoln Tech is an option for you. And that's it, you know, come check us out. We're an option
Um, you'd be surprised how many high school seniors walk into our doors and they're like, man, I wish I would have known this
Five months ago, right? Um, or how many, you know, one to two year
Uh, college students that are looking to transfer out of that traditional college
Hey, I didn't even know this was an option and now I do and the parents are like, you guys are right in our backyard
And we didn't know about it, right? So, um, we're trying to bridge that gap
A lot of the high school areas are offering a lot of the curriculum on the introductory level
You know, you go into some of the career and technical centers at high schools now
They're starting to offer welding. They're starting to offer auto
They're starting to offer collision heavy machinery. Um, and these other different types of programs that we're offering here
And we're just trying to connect the dots to make it easier for students to see. Hey, can this be a path?
And then also finding ways to make that more accessible and affordable for students at the same time
We have some institutional aid options in terms of scholarships and things of that nature
Students can apply for federal financial aid. It's available for all those who qualify
We go through that whole process. We have a we have a whole financial aid department that will work with students to make sure that
You know, we look at every single angle in terms of trying to make this
Affordable as possible for each individual student
They're all going to look look a little different because it's based on individuality
But at the end of the day, we're going to cross that bridge and try to make sure that, you know, we exhaust our resources for those students
Yeah, man. Way damn cool. Hey, and another question, man
You got to mention as to the state of the art
equipment you guys have there because
Kevin you've seen paint booths before man, but these paint booths
For example, just one of the many things between their welding booths their paint booths
Some of the diesel and automotive stuff they have
But like their paint booths, but you know how you got to bake it
They could just roll up right after the paint turn up the heater get that thing to 110 degrees like a cookie sheet
You can roll it out there looking like a hot pocket, bro
And no time flat. It's nuts man
Like everything they have is the stuff you're going to be dealing with out in the industry
You know when when I went to college the radio stuff that they had was just donated from radio stations
You know long gone. So we were you know
Put real to real tape on when nobody was using that anymore
It's it's not like that here. You're getting trained on equipment. You're using you know in the industry
Yeah, it's no good when everything's out of date and you're behind already
Yeah, you know I have to I'll be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to a couple of our partners
So car star uh our two paint booths uh our car star paint booths
And you know, they're pretty big in the Denver metro area when it comes to
Autobody and collision work and you know, they have some
Obviously it's industry standard uh industry related technology that they're using and our students get to experience that first hand here
At the campus, you know, really he's been in those booths. He knows how worse
Painted couple in there man. I love it. Yeah, and you know and and and on the auto side
we've uh partnered with hunter hunter equipment for the past couple years and um, you know, you walk into dealerships
You're gonna see hunter as one of the industry standards and our partnership with them has brought in a hunter academy
Where they're training their technicians in our school on some of the equipment that's coming out
That is new and and being introduced into industry. We have an adas
System here that was one of one
I'm sure there's more in the market now
But you know, we have a we have a lift down in our diesel area. That's a ton
You know, it's it's it man. It's it's a massive beast and it's holding up one of our
You know, one of our our trucks down there in the bay
You know that we partner with rush on so it's you know, it's a pretty cool experience to see you know our partners
Flourish in our in our building as well
You guys got to come, you know the the more time you spend here checking it out
You know, I'm sure the more and more you want to be here
We're gonna have willy b coming out here in a couple of months. Nice. Yeah our show and I can't wait for that to happen again
I was I was gonna ask you man
So this is gonna air here the next couple weeks
Tell everybody real fast about the car show that Lincoln take this their 12th annual car show
Headed our way in July
But this is something if you're out if you're out west anywhere
There's something you need to attend because they open up the campus and it is it's unbelievable the car show they've created down there
Yeah, the car show man. I mean it is
You know, it's it's one that people look forward to all year long now
Um, you know for the past two years
We've had to shuffle the deck a little bit because we're like, you know, well, we're gonna be a first car show of the year
We're gonna do an early spring first week of April. We're gonna get ahead of everybody
You know when you bring that car up you flip that top off you shine those wheels. We're the first stop
And then the snow
So with that, you know, we had to we had to move some things around
We we did have to postpone the car show. So we're gonna offer it up July 26 this year
um, you know, it's gonna be uh in the heat of summer, but you know
Nice day opportunity for you know, uh people to come out and show off their cars. Um, you know, we do, uh
Best in show plus the seven different classes that we offer
You know, if you have a tuner or an import bring it out if you have a truck bring it out
If you have a late model bring it out, um, you know, if you have a classic bring it out
Bring out everything, right? Um, and we're celebrating it all and you know, uh, two years ago
We had you know over 800 cars here, uh, and it was crazy last year. It was closer to 500
This year we're hoping to get back up to that 800 number
And you know, it's going to be bigger than ever. We're going to do it in july
We've never done it in july last year. We had to postpone we postponed to september
So now we're going to try to midpoint it. Let's put it right in the middle do it in july
We're not conflicting with many other car shows at that time. I checked the calendar. I kind of know and
And we're going to be uh, it's going to be great. We'll have full trucks. We'll have um, you know people coming out
Doing vendors. We'll have some of our partners out here. We'll do campus tours
We're going to have we have a virtual welder and we have a virtual uh,
Sim sprayer
So if you've ever wondered in virtual reality how it feels to paint a car
You're going to be able to do it that that day if you ever wondered in virtual reality
How is it to hold a torch and do some welding? You're going to be able to do it that day
We're going to do some amazing things and um, probably the best part of the show is willy b
Um, it's going to be hosting the show there in our lobby

About this episode
A lively conversation about Lincoln Tech and why technical education can be a faster, more practical path than a traditional four-year degree. Josh Jones breaks down the Denver campus, hands-on training, career placement support, and the school’s six programs, including welding, diesel, automotive, HVAC, electrical, and collision. The discussion also covers industry demand, financial aid, OEM partnerships, Tesla training, and Lincoln Tech’s annual car show.
Technical jobs are in high demand. Are you ready to build a career instead of racking up debt? Kevin and Willie talk with Josh Jones from Lincoln Tech about their diverse technical programs revealing how their state-of-the-art facilities and industry-aligned programs are equipping students with tangible skills and direct pathways to lucrative careers. From the surprisingly short completion times and the high demand for graduates in fields like automotive, diesel, and electrical, they discuss the compelling alternative to traditional higher education.
