Good evening, Don X, L4 / 7 year on car talk with Mary Jo.
This is 98.9 Northwest FM, I'm joining the studio was still
with obviously James from Man versus movies.
But with Sam, hey, y'all to good Maddie, how are you buddy?
Not bad and James can taste of some established so Google a few copies toys to talk about tonight.
So we're going to we're going to have to really push the show.
But so Sarah has been on the radio before.
This is your first time. Yes.
So the butterflies, are there at the moment.
Are you following it? It'll all come naturally of, you
know, I gonna get tons of new people, come on the show and it's cold, and it's good. But will get, you will get to
you very shortly, but II, but James with established.
He's obviously been on the show many times.
He's not, he's not never to the show.
He's quite the regular, tell us what's been happening with some with established and, and, you know, just just what any big events happenings happenings like soon.
So, it's that would have been pretty good, pretty, steady lately. We've been hiding for a little
bit. With the moment seeing can do,
we're heading up to Sydney this weekend for the snowy 1000 so I was well I was going to talk about that.
Yeah so this will be 1000. It's it's quite it's quite an
We're doing like a like a the Facebook lives of coverage are cool. Yep we're following up like a
Melbourne. A guy from Melbourne has a crazy
like 600 horsepower APS. So I'm so he's going to be
obviously running it. So explain what the song 1000 is
so snowy 1000 is and it's been running for the past the past five years. It's basically up in the snowy
mountains in Sydney at the airport so it's 22.2 km/h way
they cut off about 1,000 meters or 1 km and it's the quickest car overall or the highest speeds reached got over this one kilometer. So basically I'm all these,
ridiculously powerful cars and just line up at the starting line and see and see like obviously the speed trap and and who can who can cover the time that the was one.
While 1K 1K the CUNY in the quickest amount of time.
So you'll find that with a 600-horsepower, a started that would be quite a quite a handful because in but I probably got to do a lot of stuff to make it to make it on the track because there's so many laws for especially during high speed as right. So He's swapped out some parts
in terms of, so to make it lighter to aesthetically wise, right? So he's got the carbon fiber
mirror, the arrow mirrors. Yep.
Which are like a factory miles apart, but in carbon, he's also got, he's custom made his own carbon Bonnet.
He's also made a carbon Wing, but that has to come off in terms of attachments and whatnot.
He also has to go through Scrutineering or obviously basically has sorry. Instead of the normal latch you
got to have like a bonnet pins that it's off.
The market Bonnet, everything has to be tied up, like squid is have to come off stuff like that.
So it's full of jit like it is like, this is like a proper like this, did they do this time from the state?
I've seen with them. Yeah.
It's got to be legitimately. So, so it could because it
because you're going so fast during on it's basically called basically called run my writing basic.
So You know, anything potentially that could come off, they have to like take off, just just in case.
So you don't make a mess of the track because you cars are doing 200 miles an hour. You know, you don't want to hear
your view don't want to, don't want to risk anything else happening and endangering new but not only you.
But the the other races and people on the track is really most of these cars can fly. That's probably why.
Yeah, you both some wings on I'm telling you these things will take off pretty interesting. So um so You said has been
running for about how many years now.
I think this is the fifth year of the going to work going to do it. So it's been pretty successful
just just to look at things, there's a chart that's floating around and I'll pull it up. If you want to talk, say to you,
I'm looking you run this. Do you like run this event?
No, we don't run the event, we're just going up to to view it as cycle. There's a proper like snowy like
1000 event management system and every yeah I've got like they've got a bunch of sponsors on board.
Already just to name a few so exit.
He's on board. They got, they got the local Mac
is on board magazines with everyone.
Anything they can put their name on.
That's it. Look, we're gonna go to a quick
break. We'll continue this right after
this and we're going to get, we're going to get to get the same obviously, because he's, he's out, he's out feature guest of the week. So we're going to go to a song
that was client liaison your back of 98.9, Northwest FM, this
is car talk. I'm still in the studio with
James James and save. There's this James is coming out
of the woodwork CO2, so it's quite impressive, we'll get back to the Sony, 1000 will move over, move over to use him.
Right? So exciting times for you, you
have a, you have a vehicle that you have ordered it is on its way. But before we, before we get to
that and if you've got a test about the sun 1000 or if you've got any information or anything want to say about it, give us a text on. Oh double for 007. 007 98, 98.
So double for cc One, double 79, 89.
Tell us your thoughts about what we're talking about because we all got a few times. We could, we're going to talk
about time ago about the ground to our, which is obviously, then the new Disney shows, but by the original topic, you guys, it's only 1,000 which will continue with and, and Melbourne Ian's that can't drive. So, well, I got some stories on
that one. We will get to that very
shortly, but in the meantime Sam, right?
So you've ordered a car. It's been quite a while.
You're getting it, surely your Telugu.
The great people of the community what you're getting.
So I got the new 2016 Mustang. Nice come in on this way.
So I ordered it on March 21st. Okay, so it's eight months
pretty much on the dot and I they at the time they said it would be about 15 months late. So it's a long time to wait for
a car. I told everyone, I told my
bosses are my friends and like your silly for waiting for 15 months, for a car. You know, it's you're not going
to be able to you know it's going to take forever blah blah.
Blah. It'll be worth the wait, wait.
Well the next day and then they I called them up just to see if it was on schedule. And you know, you don't need at
the time when you order the car, you don't actually have to tell them at that time. What color you want?
You know what type of ties you want to rims?
Because there's such a long way. You've just got to put a deposit
on it and your name down then your name down.
So anyway, I called them up about two months ago and they said to me, that it's actually come forward and they reckon round February. Okay, yeah, it's another four
months or so let's go. Yeah.
But uh, so I've got the Fastback, which is the troop.
The Coop yet. So not the convertible one.
I just don't like the look of the converter 1.
It's just doesn't look nearly enough, you know?
And looking Mustang. You want to feel like, how are
ya? It's a muscle car.
Yeah, that's it, man. That's it.
So the GT, obviously. Got the JT the five later?
Yeah, I just can't, you know, when you think about a Mustang, you think muscle know, you think V8 engine, you don't think V4.
Turbo, you know, it's just not it's just not my thing, even though they're a lot of environmental people out there that, you know, don't agree with me on that, but that's totally fine. It is almost gone.
You obviously getting the manual as well.
Yes, I haven't driven a manual about eight years.
Okay. Um, Ventures to see how we go
but I do remember the last time I did drive a manual is my mum's car. So I practice learning in a
manual for about I can 100 hours of my 120 hours.
No, it was about 18. So eight years ago and then I
got the hang of it wanted to do a manual, but I just got an automatic instead, it was easier.
Yeah. Drive a manual about six seven
months ago and I stored it on the first go.
So I'm pretty confident that that will happen again this time. But it's a bunny hop out of that
might actually they might just give me a push start.
We'll see how we go with it but it's a metallic color so gunmetal so it's called magnetic, isn't it magnetic?
It's all right, gray color. It's yeah, it's the best color I
think is probably the best color Just can't like, I've looked at White House is too bland. Yeah.
All right. Like the Ruby Reds.
Okay. But the red itself, is not my
cup of tea, yellow. And I saw, I've seen a yellow
one, not really, not really, Kenny, little black ones.
Like the black ones are just like there's so many black cars around, you know. But then as so it's a magnetic
with the black racing stripes down the middle and black rooms, as well, as a little tight. Yeah, but yeah, so we'll see how
we go. But look, I'm just still Wayne
up because of course this is a very You can't.
Yes, I'm on the list so I was coming up so I got really decide whether I want to keep it or sell it as well.
So well that's the thing. So are you going to take
delivery or you're going to just like cancel it?
Well my dad actually knows someone because my dad's a bookkeeper and one of his clients was on the waiting list for over a year. Yep.
And a week before he was meant to receive the car.
So he bought the calf, my saying the Mustang.
Yeah. VA coop for around 60.
T2. Okay.
Thousand which I bought mine for around 61.
I think it was and he sold it to someone further down the list for eighty five thousand dollars.
Yeah, he's some fluke, it's a big, you know, it's a big profit on a car. The but the waiting list is so
long and if you mean people are just so impatient these days, they'll pay a little bit more especially as like you find the right person to find out K by Giuliana, wouldn't that be nice?
I would love to own a Shelby GT500.
That's Like drugs. Yeah, dream car main.
I just had a had a so many exciting moments watching.
Nicolas Cage. This is not the car just Nicolas
Cage. So but the another are those
thought that that was the car that really drew me.
It was a Mustang obviously so that was, that's my dream car but the this one if I do drive it might be a good comparison.
I think so. Well, I mean look a real g Allen
was like and I was like, I was specifically made for that for that. Uh yeah, but that's a two
hundred thousand dollar car 300,000 flare but you know it doesn't hurt at all to dream and yeah, that's it.
I mean that's as close as that which is, yeah, which is in the Family Lights, it's got its got the pedigree there.
It's a Mustang. You know, if you get the core of
the assignment, you still getting something.
Now those are one of my friends. He said to me if you drive it
for a little bit and then sell it because they're going to get it out of your system. Yeah, sort of thing but you
might drive and say God is awesome and that's what everyone has said. Like everyone that I spoke to
you speak to that as a must They always say, they say that they say once you get into it it's you'd love it.
Yeah. And it's very hard to get out of
it and they haven't driven it. They don't even like test-driven
and then they just get in and they just love it.
Well, yeah, so nice but we'll see.
We'll see this little bit of water going to the bridge, a little bit of thing to do, but I'm really excited.
Celiac it's the only here. So we're gonna have to get you.
Once you get your car and and CC Sam's life for the Mustang maybe we should go like a mobile. 98.9 Have em just driving around the
car on a Tuesday night, get the Jack.
We got James and James Lee come down and we'll just drive around the car. Mobiletalk is pretty much it
back again. I'm sure Sam will put the foot
down here and there and yeah, and give it a little bit of a squirt, but, you know, at exciting time.
Same, it's really good. It's a bit stupid idea, really?
A lot of, you know what border, I just thought 12 years long for 12 years, 12 months is a long time.
I won't have to worry about and then like they say, four months from now and then you actually have to think or gone, I'm gonna cry. We're not gonna get the money
from. You gotta think about insurance.
You gotta think about, you know reg.
Oh, so there's a lot of like maintenance.
It's like, oh well, it's good though.
But if I do drive and I do get it, be exciting.
Yeah, you'll love it. I'll guarantee that like I the
same thing when I went to, when I went to buy my car and I'm just like, what the hell am I doing here?
One, caveat, The typhoon. So, so the first one, the first
time I drove it, like, what besides test driving the first, makes you drive it? When I bought the car, just
like, I couldn't get a smile on my face, and I'm just like, yeah, I made a good. Yeah, yeah.
There's a lot of money. But yeah, it's gonna lose money
but you only live once as they say.
So enjoy yourself. Enjoy.
And we're starting to see a lot of things around.
So so they'll be like, they'll be playing a Mustang or yes, and clubs and all that your Mustang Melbourne's, most Treat yourself to treat yourself to Mustang moment.
Retrace our look coming out of Mustang moment.
It's plenty of nice things. So that's exciting to say, I'm
glad you got to make dinner because you don't see many of magnetic, you say, mole in the red and the blue, I am on the blue, the blue is okay. But the man, the magnetic stripe
is a nice is coming. Well, I was a time.
I was at a stock the other day, getting some stuff for my cat, you some clay stuff and I saw a magnetic Mustang there.
So I hug the car, the guy came out, he said, get off of me, I'm sorry. yes, but I am not bad and I'm Just to say I did just kind
of saying I almost am not that, but yeah, you want obviously, come on the radio. What?
I want one day so you you're gonna have to come and do some training. Yes, I look.
I mean, there's things I like to talk about, like, Fitness stuff.
But, you know, I'm always so I'm a very sporty guy as well.
So it's populated with Louisville, talk about sport.
I love my NFL, my American football.
This is a little time of year when it's sort of all swelling up on it. So I really enjoy it.
It, but I'm yeah, definitely, I'd like to, I've been wanting to do a bit of training here and I get involved.
So, yeah. So we'll keep in the loop, and
it'll be good to have you part of the station, because I'm you've already got quite a nose, will have to, um, change my name to James though. Well, it's health and fitness,
talk with James James, James, James, James James, seven of the station. Because here there is there is
there a lot of James around here?
It's called James 98.9 Northwest a fan, not a nice James.
This giant was James Leona. James James Morrison.
James J. So it's a guy called Jimenez,
but it's about like Jace. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard
Hammond, and James Mays new show on on Amazon.
So, and obviously, they've paid big money to Amazon's paying him big money to get the pretty much the biggest three guys in car automotive journalism on a show and it's obviously for you got to pay for it because on Amazon but you can get it from other sources. I'm going to say how so he can
but you know, the first episode aired this weekend, it's it was everyone was kind of everyone. Cayenne fraternity was just like
waiting on this on this episode because I'm because Top Gear the revamp. With the news new host book was
kind of a disappointment for a lot of people.
I didn't think I was because Chris Harrison and a few of the other like and Sabine Schmitz and stuff like that, were really, really good. But we're not, it's want to talk
about talking. We're going to move on to
obviously The Grand Tour so it started with quiet.
It looks like they spent the whole budget in the first, about 15 minutes ago, 15 minutes of the damn show.
In the first thing, I'll just explain what, like what happened? It was, it was tight in really,
really well. I thought it was introduced
pretty pretty pretty cleverly. They showed pretty much Jeremy.
Clarkson walking out of the things the BBC and they had like you know the radio adverts and a not like and the news the news reports are Jeremy Clarkson's lost.
His job. Is that in the other he's moved
on and they show him just getting on a plane and go going to Heathrow and Lenny in America.
Driving a Mustang. So he gets a rental Mustang and
I left him there and he's just seem driven by himself and it's all bit kind of lonely. And then you just see two of the
Mustangs in the distance, come up, come up and come up this women and they've got obviously James and James May and Richard Hammond in that and in like you seem to go and you're like, okay this, they all kind of work and you all of a sudden, say, like a bazillion other car start following him.
So anyway, go to to their tent will and the team is where the whole idea of this concept of grand tour.
Is it's a moving show so it's a it's a grand tour so every every week they're in a different city.
So so this this this week there were here in California, that's cool and it is like raining this week though, they're bad way to start your show, you know, rain is pouring down there in Johannesburg. So that's in South Africa.
So that so that that's a bit of a bit of a change in yeah, the popular Papa come to Australia and and stuff like that.
But it was really cool like that.
They had the head kind of like kind of laughable moments and like a comparisons to the old show, obviously, the still with us same live audience after that, they had one scene where they had celebrities and because you in the top of your head, like that thirst, every way that a celebrity company, but I think they've can't. They kind of canning that
concept because we are top. But, what hell?
I did. Is pretty funny though.
Like oh, you know, I don't know what other show does this but you know we do have celebrities come in every week are there just to say stupid stuff like that.
So they they they had they had a top that we're going to have our celebrities come Landing in like a cookie.
Come to a show in a crazy way. So live now is like a guy, I
forgot his name coming from you jumping from an airplane.
So same jump of the Aeroplane you like it did little good.
We know the money from the company just crash lands and dies. What?
It was actually really really it's clever.
Its kind of so the humor and weirdest is still there, which is, which is good to say, they're really, I've got a great just Bond and clearly and they feed off each other in a way that you can't replicate the cream.
Replicate in Top Gear with new co-hosts and stuff and that was the key exactly, right? And and that's, that's the main
point of view, but they were top, you essentially, you know, it's not as bad as it is to say, like, you know, that they were the show, they were the show and that have the BBC's, we kind of realized, How bad they they made it like.
Okay, Johnny Carson Distributing by punching a producer but he himself fine. But worse things have happened.
Where's where's things have happened?
Yeah, I mean I mean look Trump's present president but you know at the end of the day you're I don't see him.
Their camaraderie is just second to none and they got a chemistry that's just, you know, just it's like you can't beat that you just it just works. When you put those three people
in a room, they could just spend a week there.
And enjoy it. Yeah.
Because they just know what to do.
Yeah. So I wouldn't get bored now that
they wouldn't get bored. That's exactly right.
And yeah, it was it look good, my taking the episode people are saying, are they feel a bit cold?
Because, you know, it was obviously, it's the first episode that you trying to introduce everything in, you know, and then the new concepts of the new track stuff like this. But it's like the production
crew was great like the the short films and you know, love the car of these were really top-notch like, you know, legit Top Gear standard so they've spent a lot of money on it.
I did. I wasn't disappointed.
I was really, I was always happy with it, so it's different.
I would definitely continue to watch.
I wasn't gonna watch anyway, even if was terrible.
But, you know, it was, it was good to see that that it's been kept. Like, even though this is
essentially the same concept just just on, just on a different format. And I highly recommend watching
it because it was, it was good and it was good to say that, you know, their car reviews are still really good.
So it was good to see. They haven't that they have lost
the stupidity obviously, but they haven't They're real good care of you. Was it a weeds first episode?
Like, did it have a little bit of awkwardness a tall tall?
Was it? You two just like continue.
It was a bit clunky at first. Yeah.
But then it just kind of just fell in love.
Yeah. And like, by the time, I got to
the celebrities dying and everyone got about top youth, this is it? This is so this is pretty much
in my, in my own thing, it was better than the first movie, three or four Top Gear episodes that I've, this semester, all sorts of semester this year. Cool.
So it was it was good too. Same.
So I thought I'd I thought I'd just put my The Grand Tour of you. So we're going back to the to
the song with thousand. James got some information about
about that your mates car that says rang it.
So let us know closer. Alexander's MPS is going to be
the, basically, the debut. This car stock basically a
cheering and sleeks barely stock, ran a 12-8 Guatemala, and that's an impressive impressive time.
Yeah, it's quick. There is a Recon.
So now, He's put all this work into it but just a quick rundown he runs a he'll take Elite for the engine management financial management. It still retains the factory ECU
though that you know, there is luxuries like air conditioning cruise control. It has a GTX 3076, our turbo.
That is a big toe for NPS is running like 45 pound boost.
So obviously built internals port injection and a fully 85, yep, fuel system, he runs. So in other words by something
you said, On the runway is gonna be out a few based on fuel pump.
No way. Wow.
So he's got like a million dollar car, the car Gonna Stay Together by the time we get to the end and he's gonna like gonna be pretty interested in a great.
This is a pedal just falling off.
It's the best the best parties whenever he takes this thing on the street. And you know you get like these
massive V8 You know any other Supercar tries like this thing go and they lose to a mess though like a little messy 3.
It's you want to sell your car really?
No you just like keep drawing. But turn left off the road or
trail that basically gives him in excess of like 700 horsepower at the wheels, I think sorry Z, so he's always going to be running slicks in that. Just keep all Sleek.
So I've been told he's running like Like I can Mickey Thompson fall asleep. Yet.
He's even got a smaller room size to get in or other or rubber more dampness on the wheels and then wider rubber, so he's running 17th. So with that.
Is that from a? Is it like a laundry?
Is a wrong start? I'm pretty sure it's wrong.
It's not like that. I think it's from a launch.
I don't have the exact Like rules and stuff to the event, but there are heaps of rules. Yeah, I know he has anti like
set up in every girl. Okay.
Okay, so he's a pretty much all the time.
Yeah. Basically like this thing throws
Flames out of the but it's also the he'll take just picks up that. Oh he's pulled like he's pulled
his foot off the accelerator. There's a bit of like not
anti-lag and just goes Tata, Tata Tata, and it's in the boosters just stalled up. And then as soon as you put your
foot down instant, yeah, like it's a crazy system, it's essentially a rally car, that's pretty dope.
You look. Um, I've seen I've seen a few
cars from from previously, from there.
I think it was a, I think a typhoon, like, believe it or not. I'm not giving typhoons again a
rapid, but it was a few there. Actually.
It was the, it's a yellow typhoon and he answers every year this guy and he
