Welcome to the Carpool podcast with Kelly.
Sports, I'm not like, of course I love the lines, but like any other sports I'm not really
into and I barely even understand what's going on in the Lions game, I just like the vibe
of like having the team, you guys know this.
And Liz.
We had like our prom parties there, we had our graduation parties there, we just like
And my wedding there.
Again, like I know you have the most important milestones, but like we also have memories
there.
Your mom time off starts now.
Welcome back to the Carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz.
Hey, Liz.
Hey, Cal.
Well, it's Wednesday, but I'm still hungover from our crazy weekend.
Oh, totally.
You know us.
We're wild.
No, being a mom is like so weird because you just like I just do not drink
anymore.
It is just not worth like being hungover and being a mother sounds horrible.
It's not worth it.
No.
And like for us to say that is so crazy.
Like we're big Catholic family, we're big, I mean, we're big drinkers.
I don't know what to say.
Like the the sun trips know how to party and I never thought I would be like so far the
other way.
I think I had like two drinks at the farm party and I was like, I'm done.
It was a two years.
No, this is my new thing with drinking.
I have like two I like pick the time of the night that I want to catch a little bit of
a buzz and I have like two drinks kind of back to back.
I ride that and then I let it taper out and then I'm fine and I had my moment.
But then by the end of the night, I'm sober and I feel great the next morning.
And I like to do that early and I like to do it early.
So I'm not going to bed, not feeling well.
And I'm like the most fun, the most fun part of the night is the beginning
because also I'm not staying up late.
But yeah, the farm party was so much fun.
It was so much fun to have our whole family in town.
I know we felt so complete.
I can't I don't know how mom and dad felt because like they're their kids.
But like I felt so whole.
I know it's amazing.
I didn't realize like how much I was missing Sydney until I saw her.
I know.
And now she's gone again, which is so sad for us.
I know she said she might come home for Christmas.
But she's like, I mean, like I have a job.
She's like, this isn't like Christmas break where I like come home
for like weeks at a time.
She's like, I might be able to come home for a few days.
But it's like a thing, you know, it's like 24 hours of travel.
Like it's a very Australia's far away.
It's the furthest away.
I think it's the furthest you can get.
But in Australia, I think she said that.
Like no matter where you work, you're guaranteed like four weeks of vacation.
Like so anywhere outside the U.S.
Like literally every other country works for America.
And he works for America.
Yeah.
So hopefully she can come back soon.
I pray that she can come back.
But it's so funny.
And I was I was done by 10 p.m.
And I like woke up with Sloan at like two thirty three.
And since we were all staying in like one room when she was crying,
I had to go into the living room and rock her and like Sydney comes rolling
in at three a.m. I'd open the door for her.
And I'm like, we are just in such different stages of our life.
It's not even funny.
And that is so.
Interesting.
It's so interesting.
It's a happy work together.
And I'm happy.
Hopefully then they'll be together.
Yeah, but I do.
There is a level of me that like wishes I but the problem is like when I was there,
they were too young.
Like I want to be doing this with them, you know.
Yeah, yeah, I just I'm not.
I just think we're not going to get that till like their kids are grown.
Till that's fine.
That's fine. I'm in no rush.
I mean, that's fine.
Whenever it happens, it happens.
Yeah, the farm party was super fun.
So I think we talked about in the podcast, maybe we just talked about on Instagram.
So we should probably double double down.
But we had our the 20th anniversary of our farm.
Our parents bought a farm back in 2005.
And it is a really special place
because Tyler is from the town that the farm is at.
That's how me and Tyler met.
So we grew up going down there.
We had some friends in the we started making friends in the area.
And then I my my of course, like obviously you meaning Tyler's
like the most important thing.
But like also like my roommate in Dallas was from that town.
One of my best friends.
We had like our prom parties there.
We had our graduation parties there.
We just like wedding there.
Again, like, I know you have the most important milestones.
But like we also have memories here.
And we just we were just like, we just spent so much time
they're growing up and it's really cool now to
take our kids there and see them experience it.
So our farm is called Sunny Meadows.
When my when our parents bought it,
they that was the name of the farm.
And I think that one of their requests was like,
if you would like to keep the name, it's called we call it Sunny Meadows.
And it was perfect because my dad's nickname was Sunny in college
Cassandra and so Sunny Meadows was just the perfect name for it.
And it is always sunny there.
We've never had we have a lot of parties there.
Had my wedding there.
Things never get rained out.
Like, it's just it just is just the most mad.
It's like the most magical place on earth.
Now, no matter what the forecast calls for,
it never seems to rain on a party that we have there.
It did end up raining on our party in like a vibey kind of way in like a whimsical
like, let me just go dance in the rain and it wasn't too cool.
And it wasn't too much of a downpour.
No, it wasn't. It wasn't a very wet rain wet rain.
No, it wasn't. It was it was like a drier rain.
As dry as a rain could be, it was.
Actually, like, OK, so we were Kelly posted a real
but Charte fit actually, I think encapsulated the vibe of it much better in her real.
So she didn't have four kids to run after.
So yeah, I'm glad that she I'm glad that she had she was on it.
I'm just happy someone's creating content,
except for us, because Sydney and Grayson could never.
Grayson can be bothered to pick up their phones.
No, I know.
But it was such a fun night.
And then the next day party was great.
You know, did we do anything major?
Oh, well, my dad always closes the night with fireworks.
Like that's just something that's important to him.
He loves fireworks.
So we had fireworks and we always order a late night pizza order
because those are just like two party planning things that I think are the.
I honestly think the late night food is almost more important than the dinner
than the during the time food.
Mm hmm. Yeah. You know what I mean?
I like eight o'clock rolled around and I knew at some point
we were having pizza delivered and there was still like the dinner food left out,
which was still really good.
But I was like, I'm waiting because I know pizza is at route.
Like it just hits so different. Totally.
Totally. But yeah, it was so fun.
My kids were troopers. They loved dancing.
It's just fun to take your kids.
Somewhere where they can just like dance and be kids and just like it was just like
it was so it was a super magical night.
Yeah, I wish you guys could all come because it's just like such a vibe.
It's so fun. Yeah, it was great.
And then the next day, the Stumpy's had a long day.
We had our church.
Sausage dinner, which I don't know.
Like this is such like a small town country thing.
I don't know if other churches like churches have dinners.
Now, you guys know, I love it like I love a fish fry.
Like lent is my super bowl because it's like I'm hitting up every
fish fry teller and I rate the fish fries that we go to.
Like we have our favorites.
We know like it's I love a fish fry.
I love a church dinner in general because what it is is it's home cooking.
And home cooking is just getting harder and harder and harder to find.
And at my kids school, the kids school and our church,
they have the best sausage dinner ever.
Now, it looks fire.
It was fire. Now, a lot of churches in the area have it's the same meal.
It's mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, green beans, sausage.
Some type of like apples, whether they be like stewed.
It's a stewed apple and apple sauce and apple butter.
And then some type of ice cream.
So the men of the parish have to work this event.
And it's like a 10 30 to 9 30 p.m. thing.
So Tyler, I let him sleep in because he had more fun than I did at the party.
So I was trying to be a good wifey.
I let him sleep in and then I had to get him up and I said, you have to go.
It's time to get your bow tie on.
They all have to wear bow ties.
And then he had to go serve stewed apples and sauerkraut the entire next day.
What I love about your church is they're like, no, you have this
not really an optional thing. Like it's like, no, you're going to do it.
Well, they're going to do it. It's good.
They're really good. It's good force community.
It's we prefer the term fellowship.
Sorry, it's good fellowship.
Half the battle is just going and doing it.
And when you don't technically have a choice,
then you then it's like, oh, we're all in this together.
Like, oh, we have to work a long day and like nothing brings you closer
than like doing something hard with other people.
And not that this is like a hard thing, but it's a long day.
Well, the problem is, too, because they get up at church the Sunday before
and they convict you in a good way.
But the problem is.
They said 50 percent of the of the men who volunteer
are between the ages of 60 and 80. Yeah.
And they're aging out of it.
And like when I say this is like a homemade meal, I mean,
the men of our parish trigger warning butcher the hogs themselves.
Like it doesn't get more homemade than this.
So Tyler found himself last week, go into the butcher shop
and he is literally making the sausage.
They're making the sausage that then we fry, that then we serve.
They serve four thousand people.
Yeah, that's what I work.
Well, I worked that all day.
So I was all parenting the four kids, which I was dreading more than I was.
Honestly, the kids were pretty good.
And then we went up there and I didn't have to cook.
I went up there for lunch and then I got to go for dinner.
We ate it twice.
Yeah, I thought about swinging by on my way home from the farm,
but it was just like too long of a day, but you sent a picture of it
and it looked delicious.
And I just like that meal.
And I never had sausage and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes
and green beans until I started dating Tyler, because that's just like,
I guess, a more it's just like not a meal that ever came across my desk.
And now it comes across my desk a few times a year and now I make it.
It's George and Tyler's favorite thing that I make.
It's so good.
Sauerkraut snacks.
Sauerkraut does smack and it's like so good for you.
It's like so good for you.
And it's so yummy and salty.
Like I just love it.
Oh, my gosh, have you?
OK, and then go ahead.
I was going to. No, it's OK.
No, you go ahead. Go ahead.
Have you I've just sent this to you because you probably haven't seen it.
Have you seen the savory plates on Instagram?
No.
There's this check who makes these savory plates.
And I came across at like eight p.m.
the other night and the way I ran to my fridge to look for anything that I could
put together, she gets onions,
olives, sourdough, cucumbers, cheese, salami.
And she makes and she puts like balsamic vinegar.
It's like everything like like savory and salty all in this like snack plate.
I ordered all of the stuff for it.
I'm going to I'm going to send this to you.
Wait, send this to me right now.
OK, all you have to do here.
Let me just read read you what you're saying.
Like Sauerkraut would be a good addition.
Sauerkraut made me think of it because I want to pickle some onions.
Let me send this to you.
You can just you can just search savory snack plate on your Instagram.
Savory girl plate.
Savory girl plate.
Assemble my soup.
So this is what she puts in it.
Tomato, red onion, hard boiled egg,
mini cucumbers, chili pepper and mozzarella pearls,
pepper, Chinese salami, capers, feta, sourdough, cream, cheese, olives,
This is going to be the new this is the new viral thing.
This is the new viral thing.
So save your girl snack plates.
I bought the stuff for it.
It's a lot on everything.
I love it.
Just like such a good girl dinner and like it's all good ingredients too.
It's like all full foods.
Someone goes, so a salad question.
Just kind of journey without the lettuce.
With a salad.
No, I love when we reinvent things to make them our own.
I think it's a little bit different.
I just like love to see people just like leaning into the savory.
Are you more a savior or a sweet?
I'm a totally both.
I need both in my life in a big way.
I'm like, amen.
Like people who are just like, oh, I'm more of like I'm equal.
Also, who am I that day?
I don't know who am I that moment and what was the last thing I had?
Well, no, because like I love something savory,
but like I'm always ending it with a sweet treat always.
I know. And what is that helps me digest things?
Honestly, like I wasn't feeling very well after I ate a meal the other day.
And then Sidney had made like Sidney's such a good baker.
And Sidney had some like homemade desserts out at the farm.
And I wasn't feeling good after dinner,
but she had these this Texas sheet cake that she makes.
That's incredible.
I'm like, even though my tummy is kind of hurting right now,
I obviously have to eat the Texas sheet cake because it's here.
And then I felt better.
So what's up with that?
Yeah, I'm not sure.
OK, I want to talk about something so random.
Have you seen all of this news about Hatch?
Hatch, Hatch like the sound machines?
No. OK, this is my Hatch.
Are they spying on us?
OK, no, let me let me just take you on the whole train
because I've seen some kind of crazy things, people throwing them away.
And I want to preface this with saying that in this moment
and for the reasons that people are throwing their hatches away,
I am not doing that right now,
but I'm going to tell you what is going on on the internet.
So Hatch, where do I begin?
I have seen multiple videos of people
like I'm throwing my hatch away and here's why.
So first off, some people are like, I'm hearing
they think it's a demonic.
Um, they're like, I'm seeing, I'm hearing murmurs on my hatch.
And it's like, oh, what does that even mean?
It's a sound machine. It makes noise.
If you're hearing murmurs that are concerning you and also it's like
Wi-Fi connected, so I feel like interfaces or whatever.
If you're hearing things that are concerning you, sure, throw it away.
I wouldn't throw it away because someone else on the internet said
they heard murmurs and they don't even know what that means.
And also they didn't post any proof of it.
But the reason that people are like connecting it to being like,
is this demonic is because Hatch came out with kind of a crazy commercial.
And it was very spooky, scary skeletons, like very scary,
like looked like a scary movie trailer,
like caution if you're going to watch it.
I hate scary things.
I don't watch scary movies.
I don't like scary commercials.
Like I hate anything scary.
It's on their Instagram and on their YouTube.
I'm going to watch it.
OK, yeah, just watch it really quick.
The whole thing that it's about is it's like it shows like scenes
that looks like it's from a scary movie, but it's it's like.
And then like you're the the person's like really scared.
And then it says, like, stop your doom scrolling and go to sleep.
And once the hatch turns on, then all the scary stuff goes away
because they're asleep.
And so it's about like doom scrolling.
And you doom scrolling, you stay up late.
Are you watching it?
Yeah.
Yeah, you I don't like this.
I don't know, like I hate it.
And they put on an apology.
Oh, they did.
It says addressing hashtag demon talk.
We've realized we failed you.
It's come to our attention that our recent Halloween ad may have
unnerved some people to be clear.
We did not mean to imply our device is our literally possessed
by dark forces.
We are simply trying to show how our phones haunt our souls,
steal our sleep and flood our eyes with the unholy blue light.
Totally different things.
We hope that clears them up.
In the meantime, here's what we're doing to address the issue immediately.
Sorry, this is not an apology.
Introducing the hatch repossession program.
If you're onside with your hatch device in any way, including if
you think there's a tiny demon talking to you at night, send it back.
For every hatch repossessed, we'll offer it to someone who is
death desperate for restorative phone free sleep.
I guess it's kind of an apology.
So, OK, so you see.
So I get what they were going for.
Like, I think they were just going for some first of all, it's Halloween.
Like, if you're ever going to put an ad out this like this, like it's Halloween.
I read the comments on the ad and actually got like really good feedback.
I'm sure they deleted some of the bad comments.
But people are like, this is iconic, like love it.
Like people who like scary stuff were into it.
And it just it reminded me of all the advertising for like liquid death.
So like there's obviously a market for it.
But I just think people are like hatch makes stuff for adults.
Like we all have the hatch.
Love the hatch for our kids.
Like they also make products for adults.
So like it is OK for a company to put out an ad like this
because it is it is for adults as well.
So you're on team demon talk.
So I'm on like, I'm not if I throw away my hatch,
it's going to be because of like Bluetooth frequencies being too close to my baby.
And like are the hatch are the hatches possessed?
We've learned this matter about the ad and they don't want to support the hatch company.
Both. They're like, I'm hearing my my hatch murmur.
Like murmur is what they say.
Like, and I'm like, it's a sound.
It's a white noise machine.
I mean, we've all had it murmurs.
We've first of all, we've all had our alexa go off in the middle of the night.
And so. Sure.
And it's like it's people feeling kind of spooked by their sound machine.
And then also they're like, the whole company is is possessed and it's demonic.
And it's like it's like a very aggressive, I feel like, to call it an entire company demonic.
I don't have.
I do have a hatch, but I'm not going to put my hatch in this fight.
I don't like scary stuff.
I also just think it's like.
It's like florals and spring groundbreaking.
You know what I'm saying?
Like it's just I'm a little bored with it.
If anything else, I'm a little bored with like the Halloween trope.
Yeah.
Anyway, I just thought that was so interesting.
And I was feeling like guilty when I was watching these videos of being like, well,
do I need to throw these things or like $60 to pop?
Like, I don't really want to throw my hatch away because this guy on Instagram is and like, is this like,
I was just really getting in my head about it last night.
And I just want to come on here and tell everyone that like, I'm not worried about it.
And I'm not getting rid of my hatch for this reason.
So I think everyone appreciates the clear up.
I'm just going to continue my lukewarm takes on the topic.
I don't really know.
I don't. OK. I don't know.
No, I don't. I don't.
I would say I don't really have a big take on it either.
I think it's a bit dramatic, but I don't like I personally don't like the add.
It's not for me, but I'm not centering myself.
Sounds like you're centering yourself.
No, it sounds like I'm doing the exact opposite.
Speaking of scary things in Halloween, actually, not scary things.
We have, first of all, we're doing our annual trunker treat.
Yeah, contest. Our trunker treats everywhere.
I don't know. Sometimes I'm so my Midwestern bubble.
I think they're everywhere, though.
Everyone does trunker treat, right?
Yeah, I'm sure. I'm sure.
I feel like not to age myself in like such a real way.
But like, do you remember when like, trunker treats came out?
Yeah, they haven't been around forever.
No, they came out while we were in great school.
I'm fairly sure. And I remember my mom being like,
this is so stupid.
Like, let's just have it on Halloween
because now you guys are just getting two days full of candy.
Like, I like, I remember when trunker treats started.
Me too.
Um, I loved it.
It was more fun than Halloween.
Because all your friends are there.
Because you're with all your friends.
Yeah, I like trunker treat, too.
I also like trick or treating.
But like, I think trunker treats like just as much fun,
if not more fun.
I agree.
Um, I kind of like came on here a couple of weeks ago
and I was like, I'm going to have an amazing trunk.
I have said, I'm going to redact that statement.
Yeah.
I won't be decorating my trunk.
Yeah.
Did you ever say you said you were going to?
Yeah, I said, I'm going to do it.
Like, it's like, I'm the car mom.
Like, Tyler can make things.
And like, we're going to do like.
Oh, because I kind of told you you weren't going to do it.
But yeah, I guess Tyler, I'm not putting his energy on there.
He's not putting his energy on there.
It's just, it's, I kind of have to fade the whole situation.
Um, but we're having a contest.
It is the car moms, car mom, car moms, truck or treat contest.
Submit your trunks to hello at the car official dot com.
Now, if your trunk or treats after what, not till like after Wednesday,
unfortunately, you're not going to make it this year.
You got to just save the picture for the following year.
But any trunks done up until then, you could enter the contest.
We're going to choose, I guess the top 16 probably.
And then we're going to be voting in stories, probably starting today,
if not tomorrow.
So make haste and let's see them trunks.
Let's see the junk in them trunks.
Do you feel like for judging, like, is it about the trunk or is it about
like the trunk and the costume and the whole photo and the family?
Like, are we judging just how the trunks decorated?
Are we judging?
Okay.
I'm judging the trunk bonus points.
If your family looks great.
I'm not judging your family costume.
That's not what this is about.
This is about the trunk.
So if you guys are dressed to the tens in your costumes,
but like your trunk just has like some balloons or cobwebs on it, I don't care.
This is trunk.
This is a trunk or treat car contest.
But like, what if, yes, I agree.
I agree with you.
And I'm very cute.
I'm just very curious to see.
I feel like a lot of trunks get redone.
Like people definitely take a lot of people take the same inspo from Pinterest.
So I'm really looking for something unique, never been done before.
I am.
And I'm I'm looking for, to me, I'm looking for some good effort.
Yeah, I'm looking for good effort.
I sometimes think in in years past, this is not shade to our past winners.
But like, it's so easy to take like the chip filet Starbucks Costco route as like
the like because of world's millennials.
And like, those are things that excite us.
But like, I'm looking more for for me as the judge when I'm selecting them,
because you guys are voting, I'm just doing like I'm just making the selections.
I'm looking for for infrastructure.
Totally, you know, totally.
I'm looking for some infrastructure.
Me too.
So, um, yeah, we posted a posted a video of us dancing in costumes that we just
found at Spirit Halloween, which is like the most horrifying place.
If I never have to go back into another spirit, I will be so thankful.
Like I cannot with the spooky, scary decorations.
Um, but we got this traffic cone costume that said bump ahead.
And now the pregnancy rumors are swirling back because I was kind of like
my favorite thing to do is just like, uh, get people to think I'm pregnant.
Because then I get all the attention of being pregnant without being pregnant.
Right.
Okay.
Um, but everyone was like, she's wearing a maternity Halloween costume.
Guys, the Halloween costume had a man on on modeling it.
I think it was a different kind of bump.
I think it was a different kind of bump, but also like cones, cans.
I find it unnecessary for the cone to say anything.
Yeah.
Why did I have to say anything?
I know.
I mean, what do you guys want to say that?
We were at Spirit Halloween and those were the two semi auto.
I mean, those are the two semi auto related auto related ones we could find
because the race car driver was a little too sexy, waxy, sexy, waxy.
Thank you.
Yeah.
But anyway, submit your trunks to hello at the karma official.com.
We cannot wait to see them.
First place is getting $200 Amazon gift card.
Second place again, a hundred and third place is getting 50.
Yeah.
I started a great new show.
What is it?
Chad powers.
Have you seen?
No, I haven't.
It's with Glenn Powell, who is so funny.
Like, I didn't know he was so funny.
This is like a really good like breakout role for him.
Like he is hilarious.
He's like Ryan, Ryan Reynolds, funny.
Okay.
Anyway, it's on Hulu.
Here's what it is.
It's a great show to watch with your husband.
It's like, it's as funny as Ted Lasso.
Like I were cackling and Tyler and I kind of got into a bad habit of like
not watching shows together, but instead like doing things separately.
And I, I kind of put my foot down with him.
And I'm like, we need to be enjoying the same content.
Or like, if you're going to scroll your phone, I'm going to breathe.
I'm going to be breathing over your shoulder to see what you're watching.
So then we can like have some sort of, you know, I just want us to be,
I want us to be consuming the same things we can ask me to talk about.
But anyway, I got him all into the show.
Chad powers.
And I found out like, I like sports movies.
Yeah, me too.
Sports, I'm not like, of course, I love the lines, but like any other sports
I'm not really into.
And I barely even understand what's going on in the Lions game.
I just like the vibe of like having the team.
You guys know this, but a sports movie is excellent.
I just like sports TV.
I do too.
I do too.
I think I like, I like sports.
I was kind of like war movies sometimes.
No, I don't like those.
I used to like them more before I met Maddie.
I can't really like watch them as much anymore.
But I think everyone loves a sports movie.
Yeah, someone DM me and I couldn't.
I can't find it because I was like at the party and I like saw it
and I didn't want to open it yet, but now I can't find it.
But they were like this person from Chad power.
I remember seeing Chad powers and it's like Kelly told me
out the show, they're like, you look like this girl,
but I have no idea who it is.
Like the main girl, Ricky.
Yeah, I see that.
I mean, I don't know if it was that girl or someone else.
You look like her in like a tall brudette kind of way.
What's her name, Ricky?
That's like her name, character name.
I'm not sure what her real name is.
Anyways, it's excellent.
And then I'm so excited to start.
Nobody wants this season to.
Did you ever watch the first one of that show?
No, I didn't.
I started it.
No, I'm still I'm still watching Desperate Housewives.
It takes me forever to get through shows.
And now I was just listening to the episode of the toast
and now I want to go watch the Kardashians
because they're making it sound so good.
I started the Kardashians and it was so good.
Yeah, I always like watching it.
I like watching the Kardashians.
I'm not saying I love them as people,
but I like watching another family.
Yeah, me too.
Would we ever do not that anyone would ask,
but like anybody like what would it take
to like put your family through a reality TV show?
Like we would never do it.
No, I would never do it.
I would never do it unless it was the same capacity
like this where it's like they're the producers.
So like they're deciding what goes in and what does not go in.
No, I I I could never put myself in that.
I just the very I could never do that.
And then they have to like fight
and like put controversial stuff out.
Just for like, I don't know.
I could never do it.
Not for me.
I've no desire for me.
Not for me either.
But anyway, Kardashians is great.
Nobody wants this.
You should watch because it's about two sisters
who have a podcast.
I know.
And I start again, like I'm watching Dancing with the Stars
and I'm on season seven of Desperate Housewives.
And then I have to watch Kardashians
and apparently Chad Powers and nobody wants.
I don't have time.
See, I'm finding myself with so much, not so much time,
but like I'm finding myself with a solid 40 minutes
every night for the kids go to bed.
We'll see.
And James goes to bed late and I fall asleep with him.
So I'm trying to work on that.
Totally.
I'm trying to work on that.
All right.
Well, I think it's time for industry news
where I spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry.
Let's hear it.
OK, our first story is from automotive news.
Evie sales plunge 43% in October without the tax credit.
Wow, forecasts.
I know.
A automated car discounts on electric vehicles
in October helped blunt a deeper collapse in EV sales
after the September 30th tax credit cutoff.
A new electric vehicle delivers our forecasted
to fall 43% in October from a year earlier
following the termination of the EV tax credit.
I mean, makes sense.
Anyone who was eyeballing one got it before.
Well, and I think what's interesting about EVs
is it kind of feels like we're at a point
where anyone who wants one has gotten one.
Yeah.
And a statistic that I would really, really like to know,
which I'm sure I could find it,
is how many people who buy an EV buy a second EV?
Like once they get EV, are they EV for life?
Or are they like, I'm going to go back to a gas.
Because most EV buyers, I think, are also leasing.
So are they leasing another EV or are they like,
that was fun, now I want a gas car.
Yeah.
It's kind of an interesting question.
It is an interesting question.
To have like two EVs, that's kind of wild to me.
To not have like a backup gas car.
And I think that's what a lot of people are feeling.
Yeah.
Okay, this is interesting.
Well, that's just from Reddit though.
So we don't trust Reddit, right?
No.
Okay, this is from the S&P Global Mobility.
That feels good.
Okay.
Based on US registration,
so that the first quarter of 2024,
approximately 68% of EV owners who were in the market
for another vehicle purchased another EV.
Oh, yeah, there you go.
Yeah.
Well, that settles that.
So that settles that.
Did we talk about on the podcast, the passport,
and how we have like the biggest crush in the world,
Mahana passport?
No, we didn't.
And this happens to Elizabeth and I,
you know, we're in so many cars
and people are always like, what's your favorite car?
And it's like such a hard question to answer.
And especially because like cars come and go,
but like currently we're crushing so hard
on the Honda passport.
I'm obsessed.
Like I see one on the road, I turn my head.
In my professional opinion, she has one flaw
and I can hardly call it a flaw because it's a two-row SUV.
There's enough ceiling vents, but like none of them do.
But like that would be my only hangup.
Yeah, but it's a great car.
I love and see it to me.
If you're going to like do like the sporty off-roading.
Yeah, do it in a cute little five passenger.
Stop doing it in the pilot.
The pilot doesn't need a draw board.
The passport does.
I'm obsessed.
It's like the like, it wouldn't be the car that I would drive
because I have too many kids.
But like a dad car, like then I do so many consultations.
The next time someone's like, what's like a cool dad car?
I'm gonna say you should get the Honda passport transport.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It is great.
It was super comfortable.
It felt big.
Yeah.
I just, I loved it.
Yeah, we're gooped and gagged.
Is the tour out yet?
No, it's not.
I still need to edit it.
We have like a laundry list of tours that need to go out.
Such a laundry list.
Such a laundry list.
Okay.
Our next story is this is just something that I kind of want to get your take on.
I sent it to you already, but Jeep has a new add out for their wagon year.
Speaking of like people just putting unhinged advertisements out there.
This is a clean podcast.
So I'm going to proceed with caution, but I would probably, there's no way to proceed
with much more caution than what I will.
And I would, I would not want my children to hear what I'm about to tell you guys.
So I'm just going to put that out there.
So Jeep hired this female comedian.
What's her name?
Elizabeth Eliza.
Something I had never heard of her.
No, but she has like a million followers.
Yeah.
So people have heard of her.
I had never heard of her, but I also didn't like the ad because it didn't really say who
she was.
Well, I don't think it needed to.
She said she was a comedian.
Well, I just think it should would have been helpful.
Like, who is this person?
Like for me, cause I just didn't know who it was.
What more context do you want?
I don't know.
So she pitches this like idea of like, Hey, we need to be selling the Wagoneer.
I guess like there was an article written on Jalopnik, which what even is that?
Like a fake news station or a real news station?
Doesn't matter.
Some like some, some website.
I've heard of it before.
I don't know what it is, but Jalopnik voted the Grand Wagoneer, the best car to have SCX
in, which I don't know why they, I mean, I would like, I would like more information
on that.
I'm sure you could read the article.
Should have been probably on industry news.
Let me, let me look up the article.
So she takes the approach of, yeah, we're trying to sell this for families, but like,
let's talk about making families.
And it's his long skit and it's, it's funny, but it is like, it's a tad, it's a tad vulgar.
It's a tad vulgar.
And I didn't like it because, well, I went back and forth with it because I'm not trying
to be like, I'm not trying to be like, I'm going to try and center myself and be like,
no, this is a family car.
Like it should only be about the families.
But the first time that G talked about the Grand Wagoneer, they were talking about how
like the Grand Wagoneer goes golfing on the weekdays and sailing on the weekends.
And it was like this like aspirational like man who drove this car.
And I'm like, well, that's just not going to be true.
First of all, that man's obviously driving a Range Rover.
Like no one, no one who has a sailboat also has a Grand Wagoneer.
I think that's just like, I think you'd have to run the numbers on that, but those two
are not aligning.
So I felt like that was out of touch because also it's a family car.
It's a family car.
It's a family car.
And then they go so far the other direction where then in the ad, the people at Jeep
are trying to be like, no, it's a family car.
You know, we're trying to do this, this and this.
And she's like, oh, okay, no problem.
Like put me with like a hot husband.
And like, I'll just like, and she's like, I don't even know if she's a parent.
So it was kind of like making fun in a playful way that like all of the family friendly features
are just better to have for SEX.
I mean, it might describe in it, right?
Yeah.
Go watch it.
Go watch it.
It was bold.
And it's got people talking about it.
No, it has people talking and that's, and I think that's good.
I'm, I wasn't like, and I don't think you were too.
I'm not offended by it.
I'm not offended.
It takes a lot to offend me.
But I was just like, oh, like it's kind of the same thing with the hatch thing where
it's just like, wow, that was kind of a lot.
People aren't doing that.
Like people are not that aggressive in their commercials.
And it was a tad aggressive, but I was like, yeah, okay.
It's a take.
It felt like a Saturday Night Live skit.
It felt like it did, which is like, it's a take.
It's something new, something fresh, you know, whatever.
It's a campaign.
Well, and at least to me, I found it less offensive than the original one because at
least this one was being funny where the other one was being so cold serious.
Like they wanted like the sailors of the world to drive their Grand Wagoneers
and like not the moms of the world.
And this one felt funny.
I would love to hear what other people's take though.
Yeah.
We definitely need, I think that I think I saw like this be posted in one of the
Facebook groups and I don't think it had any comments on it yet, but like I want to
go back and see what people are saying.
We should post it on like the couple Instagram and just we can like start a
discussion thread that way.
Maybe just like get a vibe check.
I think it's funny.
Okay.
Well, now it's time for ditch the drive through where we give you an easy dinner
recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut.
Now here's what I'm making for dinner this week.
Haven't made it yet, but it's kind of like a different flavor profile.
If you will.
Um, so we've, we've all seen the Chick-fil-A hacks on like how to get like
higher protein, you know, lower calories, whatever.
And a lot of them is like, get the mac and cheese, get nuggets, put Buffalo sauce
on it, shake it up in a salad container.
You've seen this, right?
Yeah.
So I'm like, what am I made Buffalo mac and cheese?
Like I made homemade mac and cheese for my son who loves it.
And then I made me and Maddie crock pot, Buffalo crock pot chicken, which we
love, but haven't had in so long because the kids can't eat it.
Yeah.
And I'm like, what if we just made that?
So it sounds so tasty.
Buffalo mac and cheese.
Honestly.
I don't know if I've ever had Buffalo mac and cheese and it's totally one of those
do the most of the least recipes, like do it homemade or make craft and chicken
nuggets and grow Frank's in there.
Yeah.
No, I'm going to do it up right.
Like I, um, I'm going to go find something.
I honestly might go get the Chick-fil-A Buffalo sauce cause that's like so good,
but so is the primal kitchen one.
Oh, primal kitchen.
Smacks.
But I, I also follow this account.
Tasty Shreds.
Do you follow him?
You've told me about him in the past.
He posts like it's like a such guy food where it's like Buffalo mac and cheese,
like like bacon ranch chicken.
Like it's just, I'm sorry.
It's just guy food, but he does it in like a very high protein kind of way.
Um, and he has a Buffalo chicken mac and cheese recipe.
Now his is like, I'm going to make it a little bit fresher than his,
but he puts bacon on top of it.
Like it looks excellent.
So that is what I'm making for dinner this week.
That sounds super tasty.
I am kind of also doing pasta Monday and I'm going just like for your
classic spaghetti tonight.
Oh, I am actually doing that too as well.
Yeah.
I believe it or not.
Spaghetti is not in my bi-weekly rotation like my every other week rotation
and it needs to start being in it for a multitude of reasons, you know,
it's easy and my kids like it.
I don't know.
I think I just probably ate it like so much and got a little burnt out
and I'm just not making it like it's just easily.
I mean, we should have every other week.
It's so it's cheap.
It's good.
I make it all the time.
And tonight when I make it, I'm also going to make like mini meatballs.
Yeah.
I'm going to make homemade meatballs,
but normally I do like a regular size meatball.
I'm going to try my hand at like a party meatball just just to see if
that's more palatable for James.
I was going to make a meatball, but I'm not going to.
And I'm just going to do a little meat sauce instead.
I think that's fine.
Yeah.
I had such a scary anchovy almost scared the other day.
No.
Well, I went to a potluck like one does and I was like, oh, a meatball,
like let me get, eat this meatball because like I could use some protein
because, you know, sometimes you go to a potluck or like a little girl's thing
and it's like, there's a lot of dips and there's not a lot of protein.
Yeah.
And I put it in my mouth.
And I, before I saw it, I was like, what if she put Worcestershire in her meatballs
because like I do.
Or I did spit it out.
The person who had made them had already left the party.
So I had to call actually had a friend call and ask what they put in their
meatballs so I could keep my anxiety to a minimum.
She did not put Worcestershire in there.
But yeah.
This is exhausting.
I know, I know it sucks, but it'll be okay.
Yeah, I will be.
But also says I don't need to be, I don't need to be in potluck meatballs
just going forward.
If there's a question that people put it in, like, yeah, I mean, I never put
Worcestershire.
I don't really use Worcestershire ever.
Yeah.
I use it like all the time.
That's kind of crazy.
My roasted veggies, my beef stew and my meatballs.
Now it's just gone.
Oh my gosh.
I wonder if I can have Costco meatloaf still or if they added in Costco meatloaf.
That's going to be tough.
We'll have to find out.
Yeah.
They really shouldn't because like them people with fish allergies can't have it.
Yeah.
And I am like just really learning a lot about how people should just be, maybe
they are, maybe I'm just not noticing it.
But like you shouldn't just add an allergen for no reason, you know?
Yeah.
So just add an allergen to add an allergen.
That's crazy.
But like I definitely have in the past.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, I've definitely like learning a lot more about allergies and like how serious
they actually are and like how scary it can be like for you and also for parents
of kids with allergies, like sending them to school and stuff.
And I'm just like, and now that you're a mom, like you take everything so much more
like anything you see, you just see through a different lens.
Just like I just, my heart just goes out.
Yeah.
My heart goes out.
My heart goes out.
Speaking of our hearts going out, it is time for Blake's Besties where we read the
stories from our followers of their babies that they lost too soon during infant and
pregnancy loss awareness month.
This is our last week of Blake's Besties.
I love doing Blake's Besties.
So I am bummed that it is our last week, but I appreciate everyone listening and writing
and so we have some stories we want to share and I'm going to save, I'm going to save one
for the end because I know I cried so much reading it.
I know it's going to be hard for me to get through, but it's from the perspective of
a dad and that is something we've never had before.
So I just want to hang on, hang with us because it's, it's powerful.
And I just want to say, I just also want to say like, we've had a lot of submissions
are like, Hey, I don't know if it's, you know, I don't know if I qualify or don't know if
I can write in.
It's like, no, if you're even thinking about it, you can.
Yeah.
This is for everyone.
Yeah.
Did you send her mine?
I emailed it to you.
Oh, before you do the email.
Okay.
This comes from Lauren.
Hi, Kelly and Liz.
I was inspired to share my story after hearing from the woman on your last podcast who had
to have a hysterectomy and is considering adoption to grow her family.
Perhaps the story can help her in some way.
In 2020, we were blessed with a beautiful baby boy conceived after a year of trying.
When he turned one, we started trying again.
We were related when we were pregnant after only six months at my, but, but at my first
appointment at nine weeks, we found I had a missed miscarriage and at some, at some
point around five weeks, the fetus had stopped growing.
The couple of people I knew who had miscarriages had gotten pregnant again or right after.
And I felt like if I could just get pregnant, I would again, I would be okay.
Spoiler alert.
It's now been more than three years and I still haven't gotten pregnant.
We've transferred four embryos, but zero pregnancies.
So I eventually had to figure out how to truly grieve that miscarriage and that child who's
not with us, as well as my inability to carry more children.
It's been a long journey sweetened by the joy of watching my son grow up.
My husband and I had discussed adoption before getting married and while, and even while waiting
the results of our last embryo transfer, we knew that adoption felt right for us.
We always felt strongly that our family was not complete.
Long story short, I now have the most incredible baby brought to us by the complicated beauty
and heartbreak of adoption.
My older son talks every day how much he loves having a baby in the family.
And it's been incredible to finally see him be a big brother.
And when I stare into my baby's beautiful eyes and listen to him giggle, I am struck with
God, I am struck with hearing God tell me, why did you ever worry I had a plan all along?
Well, that's one thing about God is he always does.
And it's so impossible to feel that in the moment.
And we read a lot of these stories.
And I do feel like a majority of the people who write in are always saying that a year later,
we have our rainbow baby.
But when you're going through it, you don't know if you're going to get that.
And it's got to be just so hard.
And obviously in this story, in this case, she didn't get her, you know, her own rainbow baby,
but she threw adoption.
Yeah.
And it's also also like forget the pain because I also don't love like everything happens for
a reason.
Like I'll actually strangle you.
Like that's not what I'm saying.
But there is like some comfort.
And I've talked about this before, like I take so much comfort in knowing that God has
hand selected me and my children for this time in history.
And I do take a lot of comfort in that.
So like, even though, you know, we live in a broken world and like things are going to happen,
things can and will happen to me and my family as you, as all of you guys in your family,
like nothing surprises God.
And he chose you for this time for a reason, you know.
Like, and yeah, like, and in this case with the adopt the adoption, like he knew that this,
this baby, that's not biologically yours needed you to be his, his mother.
Okay.
This comes from Marley.
Hi Kelly and Liz.
First off, thanks for the segment.
It's something I hoped I would never be a part of and would pray for those who shared
each year.
And yet now I feel so grateful for the space to celebrate our angel baby.
We have, we have hoped and prayed for a baby for years and finally got pregnant earlier
this summer that sadly ended in a missed miscarriage.
What is a missed miscarriage?
It's, I guess you, it's when you don't realize that the baby.
I think it's too early on.
When on the worst day of our lives, we went in for an ultrasound and found our precious
baby no longer had a heartbeat and stopped growing just, just the week before everything
looked great.
My husband had started calling our angel baby sparkle from his very, from the very, very
first ultrasound due to fertility treatments.
Our baby just always sparkled on the screen and also had a sweet flickering of light
heartbeat even before it was expected to see one.
We wanted to find out the gender at delivery.
So we always joked that the baby was either loving or hating the nickname their daddy
had already given them while it was pregnant.
All I wanted was the absolute coldest possible chocolate milk to where my husband started
pre chilling glasses in the fridge for me.
So it was ready when I needed it.
It was the most joy filled weeks of our lives carrying that little life.
And I know I will miss them for the rest of mine.
Our loss has changed us forever, but we are so grateful that this baby knew nothing but
the overwhelming feeling of love and excitement from so many over their life and spent every
day with just us until Jesus called them home.
We lean heavily on Romans 8 18.
The pain that you have been feeling can't compare to the joy that is coming.
We can't wait for the joy filled day when we have our baby in our arms and are trusting
and believing that God, that he has a good plan for us all.
Thanks for always being a bright spot in my weeks and the opportunity to share about our precious baby's life.
Sparkle.
Okay, I'm already crying.
So this is going to be hard to get through, but this is beautifully written.
This from comes from Kate and her husband.
Hey, Kelly and Liz, I might have broken girl code, but I recently shared a few Blake's bestie
stories with my husband.
Also, my husband listens to every podcast and he has cried at every Blake's bestie story
this year.
So please share with the men.
They hit so close to home and help me finally find the words for what we've been walking
through these past few months.
We have two little ones, three in one and have a two miscarriages this year.
It's been hard to wrap my head around being a part of this club, but these stories have
been so healing.
So thank you for doing this.
Well, my husband who works in finance who doesn't have a creative bone in his body and
usually just sign his name on cards without adding anything else wrote me this email and
said I could share it with you all from my husband.
I watched the woman I love fall apart right in front of me.
I held her when she couldn't hold herself.
I made plans for the babies.
I'll never meet.
I buried hope twice this year.
I felt numb in my grief.
I felt numb in my own grief sometimes because I've been so focused on holding her up, keeping
our kids okay and making sure she had space to fall apart when she needed to.
I take the kids out so she could rest or just have a minute without being asked for more
blueberries or questions she couldn't answer yet.
There's this weird guilt that comes with being a dad who's grieving.
We're supposed to be strong, steady and quiet.
But we dreamed of those babies too.
I pictured their faces.
I picked out names.
I even imagined rebuilding that impossible crib.
I know I complained about it, but honestly I'd give anything to rebuild that crib sitting
in our storage unit right now.
I was on a work trip when we found out about the second loss.
She was further along and we thought everything was okay.
I couldn't give back in time and I'll never forgive myself for that.
She had to walk through that alone.
She even took our kids with her to the OB that day, fully thinking it was just going to be a
usual quick appointment and they would be on their way.
Instead, they saw their mom break down right in front of them.
If there's one thing I've learned through all this, it's that weeks don't matter.
Loss doesn't care how far along you were.
Life is life.
Grief is grief.
And when people say at least you weren't that far or at least you got an ultrasound, I didn't.
They mean well, but it doesn't help.
I see my wife walk away trying to hold it together.
She's so strong, but those words still sting.
We're leaning on God more than ever right now.
I'm watching her find purpose in the pain and there's such strength in that surrender.
We're praying that if it's his will, he'll add more seats around our kitchen table than
if he doesn't.
We're praying for peace and understanding.
Maybe the big family we pictured is in our story and that's something we will need to
learn to accept.
So I guess this is really just a love letter to my wife.
Maybe there are other dads out there grieving quietly in the background.
We see the mess and the miracles.
Our hearts have holes, but we keep showing up.
We don't always have the right words, but we're speaking in the ways we can quietly,
sacrificially instead vastly.
Dad.
Oh my God.
I'm so.
Kate, you have a wonderful husband.
Yeah, I mean, it's just like, like I.
I'm like, I'm like kicking myself because like I never think about the dad really.
No, literally, I had one of the dads one time.
I know.
We're horrible.
And I just.
I just thought that was incredibly powerful.
So thank you, Kate, for sending that in.
And I'm sure there are so many women that have written in there.
There is a dad behind it, who I'm sure is feeling the same way.
And I'm.
Yeah.
This will be relatable healing something to the dads out there.
It was beautifully written.
This is such an amazing Blake's besties month.
Yeah.
And I guess we didn't do it last year because we had just given we were off.
No, didn't we do it?
We didn't do it.
The girls were born in September.
So I think we took October off from the podcast.
I thought we still did it in November.
I don't think we took off.
I have a Blake's besties 2024.
And you're right.
We did it.
You're right.
We did it in November.
You're right.
Anyway, I'm just so grateful to be able to do this.
And I'm so proud of all of you guys for writing it.
And I'm so proud of those of you who have listened to it.
And I know that it's hard.
And I know that it's triggering.
But I think it's so important to hear these stories.
Not to, not to scare you, not to do this, but like just to know.
What other people are going through.
Or have gone through.
And to like, just honor those babies.
Like it's just, it's the same thing.
You know, I've said it a hundred times.
And I just want to say one more thing about Blake's besties.
I want to talk about Rachel, um, Blake's mom.
Who like I follow her on Instagram.
Cause like I've met her and you know, we do like Blake's besties.
And just like came to the auto show.
I'm like, didn't even tell her she was coming.
She's like, oh, like we were going around meeting everyone.
We're like, oh, hi, I'm Kelly.
And she goes, I'm Blake's mom.
And Kelly and I, like we met a celebrity, like you're Blake's mom.
Like why didn't you tell us you were, you bought a ticket?
Like why didn't you tell us you were coming?
She was so crazy for that.
No, she was so crazy.
Um, anyway, on her Instagram, like she posts about Blake as much as
she posts about her other kids.
Like she, she's constantly talking about Blake and constantly posting
things.
And that's why I'm just like so proud of her.
And like I love that this is called Blake's besties because it's
just like further talks about Blake and like the impact that Blake's
life has had on the world, on, on Rachel and on all of us.
Yeah.
And I got, I'd Liz has said it before, but I think like my favorite
thing is just giving them your, giving them the baby's name when
you're ordering coffee.
Like that's such an easy, like fun thing to do.
I might start doing it.
I might start saying my name is Blake for my coffees.
Just like so, she's just, it's so fun to like, to like see their
name and like, you picked out and you love them and whatever.
It's a good idea.
Um, okay.
Well, that's going to be our episode.
So thank you so much for listening to the Carpool podcast.
Our next episode is on Halloween.
It's on Halloween and we've heard the cries about the dancing with
the stars recaps.
They want them back.
Okay.
We'll do it at the end.
No, I think we could do it Wednesday morning.
Oh, recording a podcast.
It'll drop on Friday about the recaps.
I know.
Do them at the end of the story at the podcast.
Oh, that's fine.
But they're going to get, they're going to get shorter cause we're
not going to have to go through everyone.
Like even honestly, I have some hot bullet points that I would love
to go over with everyone, but like I'll save it for Friday.
Okay.
We'll have a big old, it'll be hot.
They're doing a Halloween episode.
It'll be Halloween.
So Friday's your Halloween episode.
Oh, it's a Halloween episode.
It's a very spooky, dookie episode.
And you know, the toast girls always dress up.
Are we going to do that?
They always like dress up.
We have our costumes.
Oh yeah.
Traffic Conan stuff.
We just spent freaking $80 on those.
We better wear them again.
All right.
Love you guys.
Bye bye.

About this episode
Kelly and Liz share their weekend adventures, reflecting on family gatherings and the nostalgia of their childhood farm. They discuss the joys and challenges of motherhood, including drinking habits and the bittersweet experience of seeing family members grow and move away. The episode also touches on Halloween preparations, trunk or treat contests, and the emotional weight of pregnancy loss stories shared by listeners, highlighting the importance of community and support during difficult times. They wrap up with industry news and a recipe segment, making for a heartfelt and relatable episode.
Family parties are much different for Kelly and Lizz post kids. Over the weekend they celebrated the 20th anniversary of the farm with the entire family in one spot and while others celebrated with a lot of alcohol, Kelly and Lizz stayed relatively sober. They recap the entire family celebration with all the traditions and some magical rain thrown in for a little extra fun. The good times didn't stop for Kelly as the next day was the sausage dinner at her church. There's just something about a church meal that hits different.
Lizz needs to talk about the Hatch ad controversy. Some people are throwing out their Hatch sound machines after their new ad and internet rumors of "demonic" voices. Are people being a little too dramatic? It's the perfect Halloween marketing campaign and speaking of Halloween the Car Mom has some spooky fun coming. If you've got a festive trunk-or-treat setup it could win you some money!
In Industry News, EV sales plunged in October when the tax credits ran out. Will this be the end of the EV boom? How many people go back to buy a second EV? Why Kelly and Lizz are crushing on the Honda Passport and suggesting it to everyone. Plus, a new Jeep ad claims they were voted #1 best car for ________. How did they even get that data?
Moving on to Ditch the Drive-Thru, Lizz is super excited for her buffalo mac & cheese she's making tonight. This might be the best hack you'll hear all week! Kelly is also on the pasta train and making a spaghetti staple this week.
Finally, you're going to want to get some tissues ready for Blake's Besties this week as we share a letter from a dad on his experience when they lost their little one.
