Volvo EX60
The Volvo EX60 is a new electric car from Volvo, which means it runs on electricity instead of gasoline. It's designed to be efficient and environmentally friendly.
The SPA3 platform is a special base that Volvo uses to build its cars. It helps the car get better over time with updates, especially for electric models.
The Dodge Charger is a big car that looks sporty and can go really fast. It's popular because it combines having enough room for passengers with a powerful engine, making it fun to drive.
Charging time is how long it takes to refill an electric car's battery. For this car, it takes about 19 minutes to charge from almost empty to mostly full, which is pretty fast.
Mega-casting is a way to make big parts of a car all at once instead of putting smaller pieces together. It helps make the car stronger and faster to build.
Scandinavian design is a style that focuses on being simple and practical, often using light colors and natural materials. In cars, it means a clean and easy-to-use look.
The Volvo EX30 is a small electric car that produces very little carbon emissions. It's designed to be eco-friendly and has modern technology that makes it smart and efficient.
A software-defined vehicle is a car that uses software to manage many of its functions. This means it can be updated to improve how it works without needing to go to a mechanic.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a fancy small SUV that is comfortable and packed with cool features. It's designed to be stylish and enjoyable to drive, and it competes with other high-end SUVs.
The Audi Q6 e-tron is a new electric SUV from Audi. It's designed to be stylish and environmentally friendly, making it a good option for those who want an electric vehicle.
The Volvo EX90 is a new electric SUV from Volvo. It had some problems when it first came out, especially with its software, but these issues are being fixed.
LiDAR is a technology that helps cars understand their surroundings by using lasers to measure distances. It's often used in self-driving cars to avoid obstacles.
The SPI3 platform is a type of structure that car manufacturers use to build different models. It helps them save money and time by using the same parts for multiple cars.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE is a larger luxury SUV that offers a lot of room and nice features for passengers. It's built on a platform that is also used for other cars, which helps with its design and technology.
The Tesla Model Y Long Range is an electric SUV that can go a long distance on a single charge. It's known for being fast and having lots of tech features.
Rear wheel drive means that the back wheels of the car get the power from the engine, which can make the car handle better, especially when driving fast or taking turns.
Electric vehicles are cars that run on electricity instead of gasoline, which means they can be better for the environment and often cost less to drive.
Gilmores of Kings Court is a store that sells cars, and they are now going to sell electric cars from BYD. This shows that more places are starting to sell electric vehicles.
New energy vehicles are cars that use energy sources like electricity instead of gasoline. They are better for the environment because they produce less pollution.
EV adoption means more people are choosing to drive electric cars instead of regular gas-powered ones. This is happening because electric cars are better for the environment and technology is improving.
CCS connectors are plugs that electric cars use to charge their batteries. More of these connectors mean it's easier for electric car owners to find places to charge their vehicles.
Kilowatts are a way to measure how fast something can use energy. For electric cars, more kilowatts mean they can charge their batteries faster.
LIVE
Welcome back to the Nevo EV News Podcast. If it's Tuesday, it must be Nevo EV Newsday.
On this week's episode, we're going to be chatting about the all-new Volvo EX60.
And right at the end, one more thing, just like an Apple presentation, we've got the Volvo EX60 cross-country.
We'll also be driving the X-Peng G6 long range this week.
Honda have a new badge for their cars, prominent cabin motor retailer, appointed by the BYD dealer network.
Last week, we, Nevo and the Irish EV Association, issued a joint press release. We'll be chatting about that.
And also giving you a date for the Nevo EV driving experiences in Cork happening in March.
For those who don't know, my name is Derek Riley. On this podcast, we chat about all things electric vehicles.
Nevo is Ireland's only dedicated EV platform, and we'll be covering where we were this week, what we've been driving,
what we've been doing between the podcasts.
If you haven't already subscribed or followed us wherever you're listening to, please do so.
And if you enjoyed the episode, please leave a rating and a comment.
It really helps us out, and it doesn't cost you anything.
Let's have a couple of ads before we kick off.

It's not too late to stick with it and make your future self proud,
especially with the all-in-one nutrition shake from Kuchaba.
With 25 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, greens, adaptogens, and more.
No fillers, no nonsense, just the highest quality ingredients.

There I was scrolling my phone, then someone cracked open a mountain drew Baja Cabo Citrus.
I grabbed my own and took a sip.
Next thing I know, I heard a rip.
My friend tried the splits and skinny jeans, the crew couldn't stop laughing.
But hey, not a drop of Baja Cabo Citrus was spilled.
Have a blast with Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus, a punch of tropical citrus flavor.
So last week I was looking enough to travel to Gothenburg with Maria from Volvo Ireland
to have a look around the Volvo EX60 and its sibling, the cross-country variant.
One car, two flavors is how they're phrasing it.
So what is the Volvo EX60?
It is the electric version of the XC60, which is still going to be available in hybrid format.
But if you're looking for something all-electric, this is the car for you.
It's a mid-size SUV for the all-electric era powered by technology that matters.
With the EX60, we're doing more than just building the car.
Volvo said we're delivering a true meaning of freedom to move electric.
So why is it such a game changer for Volvo?
It's built on that SPA3 or SPA3 platform and it's the most advanced technology base
and built for continuous hardware and software improvements.
So you can range of up to 810 kilometers on its P12 setup with the big battery
and it can charge in 10 minutes.
If you can get a fast enough charger, it can give you 340 kilometers of range.
Charging from 10 to 80% would only take you 19 minutes.
It's a software-defined vehicle as what they're calling it.
And it's based on a supersets tech stack, a single set of hardware and software modules
underpinning a fully electric Volvo.
So this car won't come in any other version other than electric.
It also has mega-casting cell-to-body battery technology
and next-generation e-motors.
The EX60 is designed and manufactured for superior efficiency.
So aerodynamics 0.265, which isn't bad for a mid-size SUV like this.
So it's all about the aero.
It comes with the latest technology in safety from body structure
to industry-leading sensing and software to understand the environment outside
and the inside for the driver and its passengers.
Best progressive Scandinavian design in the electric era is what they're saying.
We saw Thomas, who was Volvo, then went to Polestar
and then came back at the press conference on Tuesday evening.
And so it was good to see him back where he belongs.
Leading UX, introducing lag-free conversational AI based on Google Gemini
and it's got the lowest carbon footprint of any Volvo car,
matching that of the smallest BEV, the Volvo EX30.
So why is it the most intelligent Volvo today?
It's a software-defined vehicle.
It's got about superset tech stack equipped with an NVIDIA Drive AGX-RN chip.
The EX60 is designed to continuously evolve and improve over time,
allowing to further raise the bar in areas such as safety, connectivity
and overall performance.
It also has a Qualcomm 8255 CPU.
Ultra-fast processing enables AI-powered in-car experience with that Google Gemini.
Currently it's cloud-based, but it will be locally stored
over the over-day update soon.
It will premiere pilot Auto Plus at highway speeds up to 130 kilometres an hour.
The system can steer and assist with lane changes, allowing you to rest your hands
while staying fully engaged.
So a lot of this is coming very, very close, if not better to the BMW iX3,
which I got to drive just before Christmas, video up on the channel
and also a podcast interview a couple of episodes ago.
This is episode 46 of the Nevo EV news podcast.
So the Volvo, they were saying that the EX60 epitomises their approach
to technology development, balancing in-house work or collaboration with tech leaders.
Tech leaders.
It's very much a Volvo with that bluff nose and that Volvo badge with that strike-through.
Beautiful fit, finish, interior quality, et cetera, et cetera, short overhangs.
That's the beauty of this as well.
It is dedicated electric vehicle platform with cell-to-body technology.
So it is improving energy density by 20%, which reduces weight also,
loses less resources and takes up less space in the vehicle.
31% faster charging and a 37% saving on its CO2 footprint.
Make a casting, I covered it in the video.
Everything I talk about here will be in the video.
I've done a video on both the EX60 and the EX60 CC cross-country.
So if you're interested in either of them, let me know.
With the cross-country, it's a bit more rugged new exclusive design frost green.
So we've got design elements such as the stainless steel skate plate on the front and the rear
and some cross-country body cladding, side wheel arches, et cetera,
that you're not getting on the regular EX60.
It also sits 20 millimeter higher than the regular EX60.
So it's enhancing that off-road capability,
weighting depth of 450 millimeters.
And then air suspension adds another 20 millimeters for extra comfort.
So this is the only EX60 with air suspension.
This is based on that P10 platform as well.
Couple of different variations, P6, P10 and P12.
That's in the regular EX60 and the cross-country is just going to be a P10.
P6 is going to deliver 620, it's an 80 kilowatt hour usable battery.
The P10 is 660 in the EX60 variant, 640 in the cross-country variant.
And then the P12, the big 112 kilowatt hours,
that's going to give you 810 kilometers of range that's coming towards the end of the year.
Prices in Ireland starting off at around 66 and a half thousand euros,
going all the way up then for the P12 variant to 75, 76 and a half thousand euros.
Order books are open if you're interested in finding out more.
The Volvo EX60.
So two videos up on the channel have a look over on the Nevo EV review YouTube channel
if you're interested in finding out more.
And yeah, by the reaction I'm seeing across socials, the videos, the forums,
it is very much this versus BMW iX3, pretty much head-to-head.
And then you've got Mercedes-Benz GLC coming in and the existing Audi Q6 e-tron,
which is kind of going underneath the radar.
Maybe price point was a bit too high.
I think that was starting off at 78 or 82.
So a bit more on the steeper side where it is coming in at 66 and a half.
Don't get me wrong, it's not super affordable, but it is in that premium end of things.
And that's what the inner round where the BMW iX3 is going to be starting at.
Volvo are doing it the other way.
They're bringing in the more affordable standard range battery entry point,
whereas BMW are bringing in the larger battery with the more affordable entry point,
the iX340 coming in a couple of months.
So it'd be interesting to see what goes where.
Volvo will have a job for those that are monitoring it and following it.
EX90 didn't have the smoothest of launches, software, et cetera, et cetera.
And they also had a fairly glitchy start with EX30.
But that seems to have all resolved itself now, fingers crossed.
I know people with both models, some of the earlier bills weren't great,
but Volvo would and is bringing it back to...
When you look at this one, you'll notice that there isn't any LiDAR bombs
like we have in the EX90.
And the SPI3 or the SPA3 platform is used across the GLE group.
So definitely one to keep an eye out for
and one that we're looking forward to getting a drive in.
So that will be coming to the channel over the coming months.
So stay tuned for that.
So the Volvo EX60 and the EX60 cross country.
This week, I'm driving the X-Peng G6 Long Range.
So a video will be coming out in that over the coming days.
This is very much up against the likes of the Tesla Model Y Long Range as well.
I've got the access to the app so I can see all the different functionalities
that was in the office today and it was in a tight parking space.
I was able to use the app to reverse it in and drive it out and all the rest of it.
So the functionality of some of these vehicles nowadays is phenomenal.
I stepped up from the GN1 G6, which I did a video on a couple of weeks ago
on the channel wondering, I'm not sure if there's still stock of that left.
So it'd be good to see the difference if you're interested
having the back-to-back look on those videos.
But yeah, the quality and the feel of this G6 with the ambient light inside
the different fit and finish and textures is coming out very nice car.
So you'll see the video of that coming out soon
and I'll pull up prices with regards to what is coming down the line.
X-Peng with their other models coming.
We did this on the podcast of a while ago with regards to what's coming
across the MDL group.
So X-Peng G6 Long Range price.
Where is our prices?
We've got the brochure here.
Comes in a couple of different colors, six different colors
and a couple of different trims.
So you've got standard range rear wheel drive,
long range rear wheel drive and all wheel drive performance and prices.
Where is our prices?
There we go.
G6 standard range starting off at 42,000,
going all the way up to the all wheel drive long range 56,400.
The one that I have currently is metallic paint
rear wheel drive long range 52,240.
So from 42 to 56 and a half.
Seems to be the sweet spot of all of these electric vehicles.
Comes in only 20 inch tires and that's pretty much it.
You can choose your color
and then depending on what you want,
that all wheel drive performance.
There is a special edition black night edition or black edition,
which looks really cool as well.
As much as the one I'm driving is standard black,
the black black edition is even stealthier
and more evil looking on the road.
If that's the kind of thing that you're looking for.
You know that wellness goal you said at the start of the year?
It's not too late to stick with it and make your future self proud,
especially with the all in one nutrition shake from Kachava.
With 25 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, greens, adaptogens and more.
No fillers, no nonsense, just the highest quality ingredients.

Have a blast with Mountain Dew Baja Cabo Citrus.
A punch of tropical citrus flavor.
Welcome back to the podcast.
Next up, we are going to be chatting about the Honda bringing a new badge to the market.
Now, I would have seen this last year, if not last year,
definitely the year before with regards to Honda of North America
with some of their models, the SUV and the saloon that we would have seen.
So Honda's to adopt a new H mark.
And you'll see an image up on the Nevo social.
We haven't followed us already on Instagram, Tiktok, LinkedIn, et cetera.
Make sure you do.
But also don't forget about our newsletter.
I came out today and I was messaging somebody.
I said, did you get the newsletter?
And they're like, God, you know what, I got it.
But I need to remember to, or sorry, he didn't get it.
I had to send it on to him because he hadn't signed up to it.
So he had forgotten that we do a regular newsletter here at Nevo.
So the refreshed H mark design is to be applied to future EVs
and major hybrid models from 2027.
It's been rolled out gradually across automotive models
and other business areas, including dealerships, motorsports,
activities, handas, embodies, handas, commitment to deliver new value
to its customer or particular focus on electrification
and intelligent technologies.
Honda will adopt a new H mark, which is a refreshed design
as a symbol of the automotive business's planned application
for both EV and major hybrid models.
And so nice.
I like it.
It's very modern.
It's very cool.
If you haven't seen it already do a bit of a Google
or check us out on socials with the new Honda badging.
Prominent cabin retailer appointed to the BYD dealer network.
Let me pull up this press release just so you can know
Stein of stopping this growth of the BYD dealer network.
The MDL Limited announces the appointment of renowned
cabin motor retailer Gilmores of Kings Court as main dealer
for the new energy vehicle brand.
Trading is BYD Kings Court and operating from its location
in Sherlock Road in Kings Court in Cavern.
The appointment increases the BYD national dealer network
to 13 outlets, with a number of further appointments
expected to be announced imminently.
Welcoming Gilmores, a longstanding dealer,
partner of MDL, Vicky Riley, BYD's national sales manager,
a trusted name with a long history of delivering customer
satisfaction is what we were looking for.
With a high quality service, we're delighted that our partnership
with Gilmores of Kings Court will now extend our BYD network,
particularly in the region with no previous representation
existed for the brand.
In operation since 1950s, the dealer partner from MDL
since the late 80s, Gilmores of Kings Court is a family owned
and managed motor retail and renowned for their experienced
team and customer focus.
And acknowledging the appointment, Ben Gilmores,
sales director at Gilmores said with the pace of which
BYD brand is growing and the increase in EV adoption
in general, it's exciting time for us to become part
of the new era of motoring.
And we very much look forward to introducing our customers
in the Northeast to BYD's attractive range of models.
So congrats to Gilmores of Kings Court and to the BYD
network growing 13 dealerships.
It's definitely that geographical coverage is
happening along there, which is good to see.
Last week, NIVO did a joint press release with the
Irish EV Association and it was in relation to some work
that one of the committee members and secretary of
the Irish EV Association, Thomas McGuire did on the
infrastructure growth for 2025.
And so what we could see was the full year report shows
a transformative 43% increase in high powered CCS
connectors across the country.
So that's 43% more connectors than there were in
2024 previously.
This network expansion has arrived just in time for
the January sales rush, where we're seeing a
significant shift in consumer settlement as most
motorists make the move away from internal
combustion engines.
So what do we go from?
We went from 1039 CCS connectors to 1487.
Two thirds of the CCS connectors offer a speed
greater than 100 kilowatts.
Limerick and Sligo emerges the growth leaders
with Limerick seeing a massive 120 increase in
fast charging capacity.
Irish EV Association chair Matthew Sealy had no
influence on that at all, but is delighted.
But sure, he's charging at home.
He doesn't need fast chargers.
And Limerick, 2026 is poised for an even faster
growth with an additional 160 new sites and
connectors already on construction.
And we're only three weeks into the year.
What we can see on NIVO is that we're moving
beyond that early adopter phase.
We're seeing that the January sales wave is
really ticking along.
We won't spoil it until the end of the month,
but we're seeing that the data is showing a huge
increase again in electric vehicle uptake.
So we're looking at around a 50% potentially
increase on last year.
We obviously won't know the full increase until
the end of the month, but we're seeing a
certain brands showing over 1000% increase in
sales, which is phenomenal growth for
2026.
What we're seeing is that the conversation in
the showrooms has shifted away from does it
have enough range to which EV will fit my
life, which is great to see what the
infrastructure growth as well.
People aren't worrying as much.
That range anxiety, that concern of will
there be a charger?
Don't get me wrong.
You always have to plan your trip.
Things won't always work out.
You know what?
99% of EV journeys and EV donors just get
on with it.
It's the 1% that you'll hear on
meeting national media or talk shows,
et cetera, et cetera, when they do have a
negative experience.
And unfortunately, it still does happen.
And I'm not sure even if you went to
huge countries like EV adoption countries
like Norway, et cetera, I'm sure there
are still people that may have to wait
at a charger or they rock up to a
charger and the charger isn't working.
And just the way it is.
And we could even see that going back to
the first news piece on this podcast
with Volvo and one of their
campaign videos for the
EX-60, thanking the early adopters
to electric vehicles that
wasn't easy at the time and
struggled on to show that you know what
you can make this work.
And so when people look back on when
electric vehicles are going to just
become cars instead of EVs, it is
going to be, God, can you remember
back in the day when there weren't chargers everywhere
and we were still
utilising petrol in diesel engines.
Many charging
locations are already in construction, hundreds
more to come nationwide through various government
schemes and businesses, encouraging to
see the diversity of locations and installing
them with hotels, supermarket, sports clubs,
shopping centres, making it even more
convenient to get a charge in if you need
to go about your day.
Thomas McGuire from the Secretary of the
Commission, Matthew Sealy also quoted in the
piece, we're seeing the perfect alignment between
hardware and habit, the 43%
surgeons, fast chargers provide
confidence and when you look at the likes
of our Nevo data, Irish drivers
are responding by making the switch in record
numbers this January and going
to be carried on throughout the year
of 2026.
Great to work with the Irish EV Association on that
so thanks to them and thanks
to the outlets that covered that piece
as well when we pushed it out.
