Fuel line freeze up is when water in the fuel system turns to ice and stops the fuel from getting to the engine. Keeping your gas tank more than half full helps prevent this from happening in winter.
The Jeep TJ Wrangler is a type of vehicle made for off-roading. It's tough and can handle rough terrain, which is why many people love it for adventures.
Microfiber drying cloths are soft cloths made from tiny fibers that can soak up a lot of water. They're great for cleaning cars because they won't scratch the paint.
Zip ties are plastic strips that you can use to hold things together tightly. They're really handy for fixing things in cars, like keeping wires organized.
LIVE
Well good morning Niagara, you're tuned to Car Connection where the coffee is hot, the
tools are ready and the talk is always tuned up.
I'm your host, Niall Motormouth Jenkins, coming to you straight from the Car Connection
Workshop where we mix a little humor, a little know-how and a whole lot of horsepower.
Here it's not just about fixing cars, it's about keeping you rolling, saving you money
and giving you the confidence to understand what's under that hood.
From the classics to the commuters, the weird noises that, and to the what the heck moments
we've got you covered.
So grab your coffee, secure it in your cup holder if you're driving and join the crew
because this is Car Connection, your Saturday morning pit stop for stories, smarts and a
few good laughs and I'm Motormouth Jenkins and we're shifting into drive right here on
the morning drive with Motormouth.
So thanks for joining us this morning and if you're commuting this morning heading off
to work, well thanks for bringing us along, I appreciate that.
Why don't we start off and have a swiggy together, remember before you leave the drive-through
check to make sure that your order is in order.
You know what I'm saying, exactly.
And when you're on the road, keep your eyes on the road, secure your coffee cup or your
beverage in its holder and keep an eye on the other guy.
That's right, you know what I'm talking about.
So what we do here is on three, two, one, raise your favorite morning beverage and let's
have a swiggy together.
Let's count it down, three, two, one.
Ah, that's what I call the Oz of life.
Excellent, well, we made it to the weekend together, together, together.
Let your family, friends, coworkers, circle of friends, names, know that Motormouth is
on podcast now.
We just wrapped up our 31st year on radio and decided to not sign another contract.
Things, you know, things have changed and things change and you know what, you got to
be willing to accept change and embrace change.
And that's what we've decided to do is let's take car connection to the next gen, 2.0 and
remove all limits.
All limits are off, sky's the limit.
That through podcasting, through iHeart radio and all the major and minor platforms, whatever
platform you're listening on, just punch our name into the search bar, car connection
workshop and you'll find me.
And on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Stevensville on the web, what else we got going?
Oh, on our website, carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com, ccbusnet.com, punch in Niall Motormouth Jenkins,
you'll find me online.
Be part of our YouTube channel and learn a ton of stuff, whether you don't know the
difference between a hubcap and a steering wheel, will help you to get there keeping
it in simple terms.
We have well over 200 videos up there now working on 300, three new videos every week
and we teach you always the five things.
What it is, where it is, how it works, how it breaks and what could you have learned
about your car and the components that would save you a ton of unnecessarily spent money.
So you can actually spend money where you really need it but understand your car more
and with regards to taking good care of it and preventing things from breaking that are
costing you money, your hard earned money.
We also teach you the four things that you need to know when you go to the service department
and book your vehicle in for service, the four C's.
I know there's a bunch of fellas on YouTube that use this same formula but we learned
this, I learned the four C's putting through warranty for one of the major car manufacturers
in Canada for about four and a half years.
The four C's had to be covered in order for a warranty claim to be able to be coded and
paid back to the dealership.
Miss a C, that warranty claim does not get paid.
Concern, cause, correction and confirmation.
What didn't get paid on a work order was saying NFN or NFF or yeah, NFF, no fault found.
That never got paid out.
The four C's had to apply in order for the warranty claim to get paid out, concern, cause,
correction, confirmation.
That's what qualified a warranty claim to get paid out.
So apply that to your daily routine of taking your vehicle in for service when it's time
is what are the concerns?
They should be individually marked down on the service order, the repair order.
Number two, cause, cause, insert diagnostic time.
You only want to give them one hour of labor.
Then you need request a phone call before given the go ahead for anything else.
So if you have five items, one hour for them to check over all five items and do some dyag.
If further diagnosis or diagnostics is required, that's where you get the opportunity to hear
what's going on and say, okay, I'll give you one more hour.
Don't leave an open ticket on that.
That's how you get burned.
Just don't.
You have to take charge of your work order.
Next, cause, so all five items.
What does one through five require in order to make correction?
And don't leave any components out.
You let them know, you say, look, once you know what I need, I want to hear from you
again to hear about it.
And then that's when you say there's nothing else, correct?
Nothing else that's going to have to be added to the list.
At the end of the day, you don't want the five o'clock surprise, then correction, right?
So correction is installing the parts, then confirmation.
And you want this written on the work order.
Vehicle is to be road tested to verify the repairs requested.
Now you got that work order in control yourself.
It's in your control, not their control.
That's how you prevent a lot of problems.
Those are the things I teach you in detail on our YouTube channel.
So come and be a part of that.
Be a part of the car connection YouTube channel crew and learn a lot of stuff.
Well, I have another motormouth winter tech tip, but today's program is a little bit different,
a little bit lighter.
I hope it'll help you, ladies and gents.
Well, it's Christmas time again, and it's the time where either as a family, you draw names.
Now they have digital ways of doing it online now.
My sister did that this year.
Everybody got a notification to spin the wheel.
It picks a name.
The computer program picks a name for you.
So everybody's entered.
Now everybody has a name, so you're not buying for everybody.
I mean, if you want to add a little something for everybody else, that's up to you.
But when you do names, draw names, that's not the rules.
The rules are you're buying for the person only that you picked.
So everybody's going to get a gift at the end of the day.
They're going to get something, and everyone's going to have a person they're buying for.
Well, what if you get the name that's a car guy or an automotive service technician?
What do you get for that person, right?
I mean, for some people, they say, well, you know, I'll get them a box of beer or,
you know, an LCBO card or something like that and make it easy.
But what if, what if the car guy is not a drinker or doesn't really care to have
a gift card for beer or alcohol or spirits, but would actually like to receive
a gift with meaning? That makes it more difficult.
Or you just take the wimpy way out and you buy a gift card for whatever, a big box store,
and that's it. I just, you know, sometimes you got to do that if you don't know the person very,
very well. But I think it's more fun if you kind of put the screws to the table
and the nuts and bolts in order and use your imagination and come up with some stuff.
Well, I'm here to help you, babies. I've got a list of stuff.
So get your crayon ready. I'm priming the pump before I give you the motor mouth winter tech tip
number 30. We're on number 30. So get your crayons, get your brown paper bag.
We're going to go through a list of stuff that even as myself being a service tech
and an ultimate car guy, that's my gig. That's my shtick. You know, I don't have any habits
anymore. I don't even bite my cheeks anymore, which I think is amazing after all these years.
I think some of the stress has come off and hallelujah for that. Let me tell you,
I probably wouldn't have any cheeks left. I'd look like a really bad hamster. So anyhow,
I'm going to help you. So get your brown paper bag, get your crayola crayons. I always have a
12 pack. I think it's actually a 16 pack now. Yes, I've stepped up. It's a 16 pack of crayola.
It's the only crayons I use and I love them. I don't eat them anymore or less.
All right, so get yourself ready. Get your beverage. If you're at home today, it's Saturday
morning. It's your time to kick back a little bit. And let's get rolling here in the car
connection workshop. All right, still fighting that cold. But you know, I think I am a little
new and improved. We'll take it because it's been lousy. All right. Motor mouth winter tech tip
number three zero. Keep your gas tank at least half full in the winter. Why? It's not just for
emergencies, but it helps prevent condensation and fuel line freeze up. So if you missed the
last the previous, I should say last previous podcast to this one. So I would say episode
number 26, I gave out some really top drawer fuel prep tips for winter. So you might want to
grab that one. And you can also get our podcast, they're archived on our website at ccbusnet.com.
That's just short for car connection business network dot com. And remember on the homepage
at ccbusnet.com top right hand corner of the homepage. All our links are there for you. YouTube,
Facebook, Instagram, Stevensville on the web. You can just click on the businesses tab, open
our profile. There is a website form there. You can email me there. You can also email me at ccbusnet.com.
You can also put a comment in one of the comment boxes on one of our YouTube videos because I
always monitor the comments. So thank you for that ahead of time. And that's our our merch stores
right there for you as well. Buy a piece of merch, help someone get to total freedom one
of Canada or USA to help themselves to deal with any type of addiction that they've been
suffering through so lots of good stuff going on so that's winter tech tip number 30 keep your gas
tank at least half full again two reasons prevent condensation because half a tank of fuel half
full means you're half full of air that ambient air inside the tank reacts with the outside ambient
air temperature and the liquid and creates water droplets on the top of the inside of the fuel
tank guess where that goes it droplets off lays in the bottom of the fuel tank heads along a
freezing cold fuel line and plugs up your fuel filter or freezes your fuel line solid car no go
so tap into series one episode 26 to get more fuel prep ideas and tech tips for winter 2025-26
and you can apply those to any winter season the other reason for keeping the tank at least half
full is if we have a winter blow in like we can get and we had one already today left over from
yesterday from Friday uh visibility was vastly reduced and because the lake uh lake area is
open we get lake effect that no one else gets and we could have a blow in that lasts two three four
days so if you need to really get somewhere and the fuel stations are closed and you don't have any
fuel you're in a bad way you're in a bad way so the other reason for keeping the fuel tank keep it
full all the time this time of year do your very best to do so because in a pinch if for whatever
reason you needed to get out of the area because it shut down and get to somewhere where the the
heat is on and you can get to uh you know groceries also medications get to the pharmacist because
the pharmacies do their best to stay open to get you there i mean if you don't have an atv or
snowmobile or a really good four-wheel drive you're stuck so make sure your fuel tanks are full
in case of a serious emergency you've got enough fuel to get somewhere without having the concern
of running out all right let's jump right into our topic because i'm here to help you i just want
to say a quick thank you to our program partners if you don't mind because without them we wouldn't

motor well send you well you got your crayons ready here we go we're going to help you with that hard
to buy for car guy or automotive service technician on your list if he has a home workshop i got some
ideas for you because we have our car connection workshop and we're always making changes and
adding some things that make the space work better for us organizing we're always working on organizing
because you never have enough shop floor to work with trust me one of the things i really like is
they have these four pack 24 by 24 inch interlocking floor mats anti fatigue what a great gift
to give to the car guy or service tech has his own shop that space that's in the front of the work
bench where you many times we spend hours standing there fatigue mats that look killer they look like
polished deck plate aluminum polished deck plate and you can get those at a really good deal
another one here you go to get them organized i talked about organizing i have these magnetic
trays and they're like right now you can get them for like three dollars and 33 cents for a pair
and they're magnetic so you can if you were in the shop here you'd see i got two of them
on the 97 jeep tj wrangler rescue that we're putting together and it's come along nicely
i have two of them magnetically attached to the front of the vehicle up near the windshield
because we're changing out the windshield we're changing out and upgrading the dash we're fixing
the heater control system and everything right now and getting that all cleaned up and i use those
all the time i have eight of them i have eight of those they're inexpensive and you know what
they're fantastic fantastic deal right now and at the end of this i'll tell you where you can get
some of this stuff i'll help you out how about a multi tool with a bit set cool and a three-piece
knife flashlight multi tool set that is another cool item very very handy a magnetic pickup tool
we always drop nuts and bolts when we're working i do anyway and then you got to hunt them down
instead of trying to get your arm in there i just reach for my extendable magnetic wand
and a light and i even if i can't see really where i'm poking i know if that bolt is down
there somewhere my magnetic extendable um magnetic tool will get it for me every single time so
magnetic pickup tool extends up to 30 inches that's perfect a great gift for the car guy or the service
tech some other things that come to mind for especially the service tech technician the mechanics
the mechanic that may be on your list really nice winter hats warm gloves and no cheapy
work socks you got to get the thermal work socks those are the best my brother-in-law i was on his
pick list and he's a mechanic way up in Nineveh and my sister was buying his gift for me i found
this out afterward and he said get him some of those really good thermal socks that i have to have
words minus 43 today up in Nineveh and uh they're fabulous so if you're buying work socks for an
automotive service tech don't cheap out get them the really really good thermal ones and uh they're
available at cabela's so i'm just throwing that out there no they don't support the channel
not at all and one year somebody pulled my name and they bought me an aluminum
slash steel floor jack a low rider because vehicles today are really close to the ground
and the floor jacks that i had in the shop they're they're not low riders i had one and i blew the
thing out i blew the cylinder out i tried to lift something too heavy okay and i wrecked it was my own
doing um the person bought me a low profile performance floor jack and i'll tell you i use that
thing all the time i didn't need it right away when i got it at christmas and i held it for about a
year or so and then i blew out another floor jack i had and then i remembered oh i got a brand new one
i can grab it and go it doesn't weigh a ton jack stands again for the guy the car guy you can't have
enough jack stands my pops bought me a pair last year for my birthday and i put them in the pile
because i sometimes i even run out i don't have enough still you know because a lot of times i don't
need to tie up the hoist for something i can do on the floor safely on uh safety csa approved jack
stands don't buy any of the offshore stuff buy the good stuff so you can get the decent ones
three ton two pack for like 25 bucks 25 bucks great gift yeah i got a pair last year for my
birthday and you know what fantastic absolutely floor mats really good interior floor mats for the
for the car guy yeah you know for their baby whatever it is they're working on you can get them to fit
the specific vehicle that they work on and they're not killer money like 30 40 for a full set front
and back great deal or even a windshield cover you know covers your windshield outside so you
don't have to scrape it off that's a great gift for anybody but for the car guy oh yeah that's a great
gift absolutely a heated seat cushion for a car guy or even a service tech you know after a long
day of work maybe working outside a little bit a heated seat cushion yeah if your vehicle is not
equipped with a buns master bakery you know you press the switch the seats heat up we have one
vehicle that does that at actually two that is a nice feature but find out if their vehicle
doesn't have heated seats for 20 bucks you can get a heated seat cushion how cool is that um
insulated coveralls another great gift for the service tech find out if they do a lot of work
outside if they do a lot of work service calls and stuff insulated coveralls insulated bibs i got
a uh that was a gift for me last year insulated bibs love them great gift i use this time of year
i use them all the time snow removal going out to the wood lot doing some wood
chopping cutting some wood splitting some wood service lights handheld wands rechargeable ones
there's battery ones there's all kinds of wands for when you're working under the hood of a car
those are great uh insulated gloves and get the real stuff you like the deer skin deer skin glove
leather gloves because those last a long time make sure they're lined and those work those are a
great gift and knit cuffed tubes you know what i mean the ones that fold up those are great i
i'd tell you i have a stack of like 12 because i wear them all the time this time of year and
then as soon as they're like dirty i throw them in the wash i grab a fresh one yeah i don't just
keep wearing the sloughed over one yeah microfiber drying cloths that's for the car guy you know
he has his baby tucked away right the vehicle he drives for the summer there's a great way
to give him some proper microfiber cloths to uh to wax it polish it clean it inside
another great gift absolutely what else was i looking at i had some stuff a pull pile of
stuff sorted out here i could go on for days but i won't i'm just gonna give you some of the quick
stuff packages of zip ties eight inch 12 inch 15 inch i go through tons of those things that's
another usable item for the car guy or for the service tech as well that's working on his own
projects at home zip ties always great eight inch again eight inch or six inch ten inch
and fifteen inch where you can buy a container of mixed zip ties that makes a great great gift
bungee cords packs of bungee cords or twist ties those make another great gift especially
if they're working i'm working on stuff under the hood and i need to tie stuff out of my way
while you know to hold this back and hold that back out of the way fantastic tool and they wear out
they do they wear out uh again fatigue mats great option check and see if they've got fatigue mats
in front of their work benches where they stand and work on stuff you're doing them a favor
prevent varicose veins before they get started or what do they call them chill blames i don't
know what that is exactly but it sounds painful chill blames gift cards to buy tools at their
favorite place so find out where they shop they might like princess auto if they like princess
auto again they're not supporting the show it's one of my favorite stores i go and buy supplies
that i need usually once a month or every other month you can get a gift card they can buy tools
because you may not necessarily know what they have and you may not necessarily know what they need
so you could pitch in a gift a gift card so they can grab the tools that they may need great tool
for you to get get a gift card so they can buy tools and other supplies that you may not know
that they need on a regular basis because if you buy them a screwdriver set they may have that you
buy them a wrench set or a socket set they may have that already so then you know what it's not
something that they need so again that's where a gift card comes in handy because they can go
and spend it and spend it on things that they're really going to use being a car guy or a service
tech working in their own shop they may need some supplies and that's a great way for them to go
and pick up what they need i got a couple more here so hang in there hang in there
um carts are good i'm always using carts if you came around the workshop i've got some heavy parts
on carts so that i can move them around and the carts save the back you can buy a cart
for as low as i call it the dolly llama dolly llamas are on sale now right now at princess
auto for like 50 bucks for really decent hand trucks some people call them hand carts hand
trucks i call it the dolly dolly llama or uh rolling plastic shelf cart i have one and i love it
because i can work on the top of it i got stuff underneath the plastic ones are nice because
when it's dirty i can empty it out and i can wash it out and wipe it down and away you go again so
again another another really cool uh item for the shop for the car guy put all his cleaning
supplies on there and he can just wheel it out to the driveway i got a couple of neighbors i saw
that's what they do they have all their cleaning stuff for their car on the plastic cart and they
wheel it out to the driveway and i saw that and i go that is a great idea everything you need
to clean the car inside and out is on that cart so grab your cart go to the job away you go
under 100 bucks they're on sale right now another product at princess auto again they don't pay me
or pay into the program here but it's one of my favorite stores on sale right now 77 dollars and
77 cents plastic and they're pretty heavy duty 300 pounders so you can really load that up again
interlocking floor great set which is good for standing at the workbench fatigue mats a warm
jacket insulated jacket is another great uh item especially the service tech running in and out
of the shop uh when i had my shop on the helter mountain i had jackets there for the guys and
i'd say don't catch me don't let me catch you going out without a jacket on i said because
that's how we all get sick one of you get sick we all get sick so don't go outside without a
shop coat that's what we call the shop grab the shop coat and when they were dirty we threw them
in the laundry you can get a quilted freezer jacket with a hood for $59.99 right now yeah i call it
the prince of the palace store so there's tons and tons of items on sale right now there that
you could pick up for the car guy i was looking at a couple other things um socket holders socket
holders and wrench racks and they also have organizers for pliers sets and stuff if they've
got toolboxes let me tell you they got drawers that are probably a mess get them some socket
holders wrench holders and pliers holders i have them and i got them there what a great way
to kind of poke poke me to getting my toolbox organized a little bit better than opening the
plier drawer and all the pliers are in a pile yeah it prompted me to get that job done and i did i
got it done um little butane torch i call it my torch and i did get it at princess auto on a door
crasher thing for like five bucks i use that thing every single day through the winter to light the
fireplace yeah you charge it with a butane bottle it's reloadable it's fabulous i love the thing
you can get one right now compact butane torch for $6.99 see what i mean if you know what to get
the car guy if he's a welder get him some really good welding gloves i buy my welding supplies
there as well same store and uh again if they're a welder get them a flame retardant too they have
them less than 20 bucks right now if they need a welding cart ask the little lady hey does he
need a does he welding has he got a welding cart no find out you can get one right now and i can
tell you that's a great deal at 88 bucks that's a great deal they're regularly like 130 so there's
lots of really cool gifts there again you can get him a gift card for his favorite store
where you know you find out where he goes he or she goes to get supplies get him a gift card
you know buy him a little something something and here's one for both of them you ready something
that most people would not even think about you ready for it we have to wash our hands
we're car guys they get dirty you know you don't want us washing your hands and washing the hands
in the kitchen sink fast orange pumice hand cleaner i use it all the time grab them up
grab my jug the big jug is on sale right now regularly 24.99 less than 20 bucks i use that
product all the time it is my favorite i find that hand cleaner works for me i have no reactions to
it whatsoever and doesn't plug up the sink i love it so that's fast orange pumice hand cleaner i
find it works fabulous they have hand wipes in a bucket my brother-in-law uses those those are
really good too a bucket of hand wipes from fast orange work excellent they work absolutely excellent
so i hope that gives you some insight don't be uh you don't be lost now i just gave you a ton of
ideas to help you get that car guy or that automotive tech that you've got on your christmas
shopping list this year and you're going oh what do i get a car guy what do i get the mechanic guy
service tech guy well now you got a whole list of stuff stuff i use on a regular basis all the time
here's that i said bungee cord set here you go way under 20 bucks a six piece assorted flat bungee
cord set i call them my apprentices for holding stuff 6.99 bam great deal the car guy if he's a
car guy working on his own all the time i'll tell you bungee cords are your best friend because they
hold stuff when you don't have somebody hanging around with you say can you hold this can you
support that i use bungee cords all the time because a lot of times i'm working on my own
it's that simple so let's call it a wrap we've got a few minutes over but i wanted to try and
help you with that because i think it's cool as a service tech and a car guy if you went out of your
way to find something that you think that i would use and it probably would be i'd be really
thrilled about that that you you would put more effort just getting a gift card has its place
like i said it before at the beginning if you don't know the person all that well ask some questions
get some input get a little input what they could use even their size if you're going to buy them
you know a thermal jacket to run in and out of the shop all the time where they're you know
they're at the job and they're in the shop out of the shop if we were like that all the time
the shop coats they were fabulous because when we're done when they're dirty we just throw them in
