head gaskets
The head gasket is a seal inside the engine that keeps fluids and combustion pressure where they belong. If it breaks, the engine can overheat or run poorly, and repairs can be expensive.

and the basic fundamentals of where what the component is where it is how it works how you
broke it and how we can teach you not to break it again so you get a better understanding what's
going on and just recently I did a mini series which is called the air conditioning tutorial
it has four parts it's four parts to that series teaching you how to properly engage your vehicle's
air conditioning system and disengage it and the whys behind that so that you don't burn out your
vehicle's air conditioning system prematurely and break it because you're not using it right
and I'll tell you right now nine out of ten of you are not using your vehicle's air conditioning
correctly you're not and it's costing you thousands when the system goes down so
getting better understanding and not just air conditioning but all the components
that make up your vehicle no matter what age you are no matter what status you are you can learn
the basics you really really can it's not difficult so I keep it super simple all the videos will
show you start to finish what I'm working on what it is and how it comes apart with hand tools so I
don't tend to use a lot of power tools in the videos because I want you to see that you can do it
if you're do it yourself or you can do it yourself with the right tools and hand tools and get the
job done and get it John get the job done right and tight so that's what we're all about so if

the onions the cortisol make us fat yeah let's jump into the weather and we can do that it's
in the Niagara region we got the smoke thing going on so we're going to talk about that
for a few minutes because it's very very important it's a health issue all the wildfires I was
checking it out on satellite last night is they're up in the northwest so like the Yukon
northwest territories there's quite a few of them they're trying to knock them out as best as they
can but there's quite a few wildfires going on so we thank our certified financial planners

how we develop this and I just wanted to talk about that a little bit this morning that's the
reason these guys are going to be retiring out soon and they don't need any more clients they're
giving of their time to help you and your household move forward I would highly suggest that you take
advantage of that so okay a little heavier this morning on the weather in the Niagara region and
Ontario and the south shores of Lake Erie we don't have any blue sky we don't have any sun we don't
have any moon or stars because there's smoke coming down from the northwest territories so you
know please say a prayer for the first responders up there the firefighters in the bush and in the
aircraft doing what they can do to get them under control this is this is just we've got a lot of
forest and guess what happens forest fires it's that simple it is that simple and it's not something
new and it's not the sky is falling and it's not the earth's going to split in half and it has nothing
to do with net zero and all that crap it's the planet so we have an orange warning
orange what rhymes with orange put that in a comment yeah orange warning air quality severity
significant threat to life or property um weather event smoke from wildfires in northwestern Ontario
and I looked at it on satellite last night these guys are working their butts off to get these fires
under control and they are licking some of them and they're making some headway but it's creating
a lot of smoke causing very poor air quality and reduced visibility conditions may improve
by Friday morning May during heavy smoke conditions everyone's health is at risk
regardless of their age or health status limit your time outdoors I stepped outside the back
of the studio here and that is the uh outdoor living space and my nostrils were
burning instantly and I mean I've smelled diesel fumes and gas fumes and all kinds of chemical
fumes but that smoke got to me right away making me cough so limit your time outdoors reschedule
or cancel outdoor sports activities and events so you know no skydiving today um yeah or wave
running you may experience mild and common symptoms such as eye nose and throat irritation
headaches or a mild cough more serious but less common symptoms include wheezing chest pains
or severe cough if you think you're having a medical emergency folks seek immediate
medical assistance so uh yeah we got some stuff going on and it's thick this is thick as thieves
just a little bit more on this people more likely to be impacted by wildfire smoke including people
age 65 and older pregnant people infants young children people the existing illness or chronic
health conditions so keep an eye on your your elderly parents and those you know that are shut
in's people who work outdoors should avoid strenuous activities outdoors and seek medical
attention of experience symptoms so for more information uh there is a link here

weather itself um today looks like we're going to tap out at 84 degrees if the sun pokes through
that was kind of spooky and there's no wind out there it is totally flat lined and that's weird
being so close to the the south shores of uh Lake Erie is every evening around 5 36 o'clock
because the lake ebbs and flows we get a breeze and last night nothing and we got these great big
indian bean trees around the property here uh katalpas they got leaves you know that you could
you could probably make some undergarments with it they weren't even moving and our Canadian flag
wasn't there wasn't a ripple which is really really weird it was so still and nobody's moving around
no cars moving here and there with it was creepy yesterday and you could see the sun and actually
literally look right at it with both eyes and not fry your corneas because the the smoke is
filtering out the uv rays pretty good actually even though the sun was out it it's not hot so today
they're saying we're going to hit 84 we're going to have an overnight low of 68 yesterday apparently
we tapped out at 81 and there is no rain in sight on the rainometer we got a big zero
so that's it spend a few more minutes on that for health risks we got to make sure that we
keep an eye on your elderly elderly and I will definitely be checking in with my 89 year old
pops just to see see how he's doing make sure that he's staying indoors right now so be careful out
there it's a jungle we got a lot to talk about this morning and uh first and foremost if you or
someone you know is look in the um the car market looking for a quality pre-owned vehicle and I would
say stay stay around 2020 would be safe right now stay around year model 2020 stay out of the top
six because that's where the issues were you know what I found funny yesterday just a little sideline
I'm thinking about all the car manufacturers that have really got some really big screw-ups going
on right now and it ain't no surprise this has been coming on for decades and now it's here
they got to clean up their act and uh remember you can vote with your wallet right you don't have to
drive what they're making go to a different flavor and move on till they get things sorted out and I
saw this commercial come on uh on youtube's it was a pretty cool one actually for Subaru and I'm
thinking you know I've never heard anything bad about Subaru out there like engines blowing up and
head gaskets going and engines falling out and nothing and I got to thinking
that's true unless I've missed it I've never heard any recalls I've never heard any engines blowing
up engines filled with problems with grit and swirl and swag and metal particles and the differential
push rods breaking timing gears breaking injection pumps letting go I've never heard
any of that about that manufacturer so hey enlighten me if you've heard a recall or engine
problems but I don't have anything on my palate for Subaru and I'm thinking I gotta check that
because even even Honda's got a problem which is very unusual head gasket issue that they've
got to deal with um which is abnormal for them absolutely abnormal because our rocket is like
323,000 kilometers 1999 I think we could dance like 1999 so they said okay so you need to get out
to City Auto Sales and leasing and meet Mama Louise and her wonderful husband Earl who is a car guy

last time um and be able to take care of your own vehicle monitor all your repairs and services
and have peace of mind and have a vehicle that is going to last you hundreds and hundreds of
thousands of kilometers and who cares what it's worth you know what I don't care if I'm driving
a vehicle that somebody says well you know why would you put money into something that's worth
$1.99 because I like it and I own it and it just keeps going brother how's your payments going
oops did I say the quiet part out loud oh I'm sorry yeah I don't take that back
yeah you don't have to be in the car game anymore folks that's just a bunch of bologna
I like to say it's a whole lot of bologna and I'm certainly grateful that cows do not fly
but they do put lipstick on pigs so we got to be careful out there so we have uh lots going on
so get ready on 321 let's make this happen this morning uh and thank you for all those
who uh were lifting me up because uh that tooth is gone hallelujah thank you very much here's a
I couldn't even feel my forehead and then when he went to reef it out he's going you sure you
want to do this I'm going if I could have done it myself with something out of my toolbox I would
have done it already because you're going to feel some pressure but let me know wait raise your hand
if it's if it's hurting and as soon as you got on it was like whoop hands goes up whoop whoop whoop
he was okay I'm ready get ready I'm coming in with some ammo boom boom and he froze it out
let me tell you and it was gone in fact I didn't even feel it leave but I did all the pain I've
been suffering for like three months and this thing was filled only about six weeks ago and
that's when things really got ugly the pressure it was like like pulling a splinter I was like
oh I said to him he goes yeah I know what you're saying yeah this thing is ugly
he was like that was a good a good call that just let's just get it out of there because it's
it was nasty it they it got filled six weeks ago and that's when things really blew up but you know
what in 24 hours I haven't had to take one pain pill no Advil whatsoever and I have zero I had
once the freezing froze off I thought this thing's going to pound me into salt nothing zero absolute
zero and I'm thinking this is kind of like car repairs you know it's that thing that's been
making a noise irritating you for so long you get used to it and you deal with it and then when
it's fixed you go wow like this thing is running amazing really really so thank you thank you all
all of you who are thinking of me I survived it my pops came along as he rode shotgun just in case
you know yeah they had to do some evasive procedure but anyhow thank goodness that is done
and it took weeks to get in that's the other challenge but anyhow number one this is the
last in the series so I'm wrapping it up for you when and we're going to put when was the last
time in front of every single one of these five things so yeah that's the question that's the
when was the last time you had your vehicles charging system in fully inspected that means starter
alternator battery are they all working well are they showing signs and symptoms that there's
going to be a failure in one of those components because we can we can pinpoint issues before
that happens yeah exactly and you know just past winter that that's exactly what happened
to an aircraft that crashed and took out the biffle family the alternator the charging system
wasn't working on the airplane so system started to shut down and the plane was acting weird it's
no different on a car it's absolutely no different but we can nail these things the charging starting
and cranking system so starter motor which cranks the engine over to get it started alternator which
takes over once the vehicle is running and supplies electricity to all the systems so I want to remind
you I don't think I've spoken about that much but we should alternators are not battery chargers
never have been never will be done alternators are there to put electricity when you turn the radio on
when you put the wipers on when you turn on the blower fan when you turn on any accessory in the
automobile the electricity comes directly from the alternation from the alternator so it works
extremely hard headlights are on it's supplying electricity so alternators are not battery chargers
the purpose of a battery is you know I think I'll leave this for another time but we'll go through
the charging system in detail so that you fully understand exactly how it works how you charge
a battery properly how you test an alternator how you test the starter motor and how we can tell you
in advance that there's failures coming and we can prevent you from sitting on the side of the road
when was the last time you had a tune-up inspection the problem with today's vehicles is this
they run too good and the computers hide drivability issues until they can't
and when they can't that's when service lights come on the car's running like a pile of dog poopy
on your shoe and you notice something seriously is going wrong well we can head that off before
that happens and chaos breaks out in your family because the service lights on it's running like
poop and you got no money so we can plan this stuff ahead of time and tune-ups do happen
on today's vehicles and no we don't go 125,000 225,000 kilometers like the sales guy sells you
on tune-ups oh no we never need to change the plugs to like you know 250,000 kilometers yeah
come to my shop and let me watch you take them out on one of the most wickedest vehicles on the
market to get to the spark plugs the f-150 yeah have a go mr. salesman guy you're not going to
want your tie on or your fancy shirt because you are going to be grunting it out if you can get the
plugs out so we have to stop listening to this nonsense about uh long scheduled maintenance
because it is a Lota Bologna we've talked about that before don't fall into that trap because
that is truly 100% misinformation in my auto world when was the last time if you drive a pickup truck
four-wheel drive or an SUV that has differentials which everybody does you may have a rear
differential there's gear oil back there when was the time last time you had
differential fluid changes and number four if you want to keep it you got to protect it
and there here's the thing if the structural integrity is already compromised because it has
um weight reduction which is rust then it's over she's singing and singing loud it's over
that's where i say structural integrity issues that car is a goner it is going to be
buzzard material at the wrecking yard maybe able to somebody harvest something
maybe the glovebox lid i don't know but if rust gets in it's over rust prevention is number one
in the shop here and has been for decades people ask me what year is that 99 what how is that possible
and i tell them i give my business card and i tell them to go to our website
and do some homework on rust prevention so number four is an annual sport every year
put the money from one coffee every every day in a jar by the end of the season
you have your rust prevention product all paid for it needs to be done every year if you want to
if you want to keep it you got to protect it it's that simple and there i have an endorsement
for a product that i enjoy they don't support the show they were uh they were many years ago
but they haven't but they do have the best product on the market
it red it reduces rust to a crawl it knocks out the acids from road salt and it creeps
it creeps but it doesn't drip how do you know a good rust protection and prevention product
if it drips it's garbage there you go it's that simple if it's rubber it's garbage if it's petroleum
based it's garbage can't put that on your vehicle this is the the product is on our website so you
can find it there very easily and number five i call this the big one jerry the kudigra
the grand firmaggio the um never mind i'm laughing at myself yeah the big enchilada
okay the big enchilada number five last but not least when was the last time you spent money
on your vehicle
that's your vehicle talking that's creepy man that's more creepier than the smoke
yes that was one line that i alert cast in stone through owning an automotive shop
and i'd have to go down the list of the things that are wrong with your car
because you asked me to check it over
and then the it's usually the the wife that looks at the husband if they're together and goes
how can this how is this possible how's this possible like where we're gonna come up with
that kind of money like we don't have that kind of money i can't make this step up folks i lived it
for 11 years solid 18 hour days i lived it
and i'd look at them and i'd go well can i ask a question and they usually both turn
and look at you like the deer in the headlights when when truly was the last time you actually
spent some money on this vehicle
i don't know well and i'd say if you don't know then it's been a long time and now the
the piper is playing the tune for you the free ride is over and all those kilometers that you
listen to those who are saying extend your maintenance are now coming back to haunt you
and that's exactly what happens friends don't get caught out in the misinformation out there
and i want to wrap up by saying everything i've taught you in the last four podcasts four finishing
off with the big one the coup de gras the grand fromage the big enchilada is completely on our
car connection maintenance schedule and i have one right beside me and i was just reviewing it
myself and going it's brilliant because it's simple and anyone any age whatever your status is
you could easily follow that and never have to feel like you got to be a rocket scientist or

people that you don't even know and you don't even like probably perhaps maybe could be so i leave
throwing money making car payments and then still having to maintain it when you're done
keep the car that's already paid for make sure it's not rusting out everything else is serviceable
replaceable and easily taken care of when you make that mindset set to do so i'm here for you
