And now I'm doing it in front of the world with 8000 cameras.
Oh, there's nothing worse.
I don't know if you've ever done this, but stalling a car
in front of a lot of eager people is kind of one of like the most
well, he, you know, knows how to perform in front of large groups.
But you still can stall a card anymore.
We're still a little nervous.
I don't think mere mortals like us, like, you know,
I feel that leaving any cars in coffee.
I'm like, oh, she has three cameras on me.
I get nervous.
I was backing a Pagani Zonda F
Roadster, whatever the hell they're called out of the Pagani factory
in front of a bus load of tourists who just, you know, they're on vacation.
Yes. And they've come and there's a moving Pagani
because you're not guaranteed to see it move.
Yeah. And I've never driven one before.
I'm reversing and I've never put it in drive before stall.
In front of like 80 people with cameras.
Did it end up anywhere?
No, probably.
Well, then Tiff Nadel almost crashed into us.

tour on the show, but I always say yes, because I love this car so much.

And I drove the new coming to the U.S.

What is this?
So they think they've identified a new segment,
which they're calling Grand Limousine, but basically it's an electric van.
These are really in Europe, you know, like you're transported from place to place
in like nicer upscale vans.
They're not the American church vans with 15 seats or, you know,
they're four-seaters or they're six-seaters.
And then in Asia, these are huge.
Like in Asia, like, you know, you would put the help in the S class
and you would climb into your Toyota Alphard,
which is a four-passenger vehicle, which has like fish tanks and a 65-inch TV.
And you're sealed away from the driver.
But isn't I'm looking at a minivan, right?
Is that all this is an electric minivan?
Don't like that word.
Yeah, I know. Grand Limousine.
OK, but I'm saying to you, yeah, let's cut through the bullshit.
Is this a minivan? Is that unfair?
It's very luxurious. It's a level.
So I see.
Mercedes, there's been a want at Mercedes Germany
to sell Americans a Mercedes minivan for a long time.
I see. But they know the connotation, the word minivan,
is that that connotation is negative for most people, right?
Mercedes-Benz North America protects the three-pointed star.
So in Germany, the garbage trucks and Mercedes, the buses and Mercedes,
the taxes and Mercedes, it's fine. Right.
Here, like it's protected.
In fact, they want to get rid of the A class and the B class
because it's too downscale for the brand.
So when Daimler bought Chrysler, who's the minivan king?
Chrysler, right? They make the best minivan.
And so they quickly mocked up what a Mercedes version would look like.
And apparently Mercedes-Benz North America, like through their body
in front of the train to stop it, like literally over our dead bodies.
We're not doing that shit.
So so cut to this moment.
Yeah. So this is how did they get over on them?
What did they say?
We're going to we're going to take the minivan concept,
but we're going to call it a grand limousine internally.
But more than that, it's big luxury.
It's a big luxury.
And what I would say, but just I just want to ask you a question.
Like normally a minivan is not a luxury item, right?
That's what you're saying.
Yeah. So the fact that you're adding luxury interiors and options
and makes it a grand limousine.
Yeah. Well, so does it feel like that inside?
Or yeah. Well, some of them do this particular spack on the monoblocks.
This is like the luxury one. It felt very, very nice.
But what I would say, though, is excuse me, this is the VL E and this wheel base.
This probably isn't coming.
There will be a VL S and much more importantly, there'll be a VL S my box.
And bro. Yeah, that could be cool.

This thing, Spike, it's already made.
We've seen the the concept of it.

This beats the crap out of this class.

It really looks like a spaceship, this whole setup.
And so this is this is like what Lexus does in Japan.
They make a thing called the Lexus LM, which is a four passenger minivan,
but it's like hyper luxurious private jet better than a private jet
because you have a room, you know, it's a genius kind of idea.
Yeah, let's take the minivan that no one likes
and turn it into a luxury vehicle.
Yeah, and make it cool. Yeah, yeah.
So there you go. I like that drove that.
I was in Spain driving that around.
Not not not the my box, but a very nice one.
Then you think this will come here?

There will be a VLS and a VLS my box will be in the US.
The VLE that I drove.
They had a really goofy looking long wheelbase version of it.
They're like because they know that America, we like big things.
Yeah. So that the brown one that in my Instagram,
it wasn't quite big enough for the US, but it's cool.
It's all electric.
It's got a flat floor, air suspension.
It's it rides really, really well.
It drives like an electric minivan, you know, you know, who's going to love these.
Is I have a lot of professional sports
neighbors like LeBron. Oh, yeah.
You go by LeBron's house and they have a bunch of, you know,
vehicles, but they're sprinters, right?
Because they're always, you know, and by the way,
I fit into this category too, and I think a lot of people do to have something
you just pop your family in and take a nice ride like this and go to dinner.
But here's the thing with the Sprinter.
And by the way, I also more approachable than a my box,
anything else, my box, like I could see myself using this more.
It's got a little bit of a humility to it, at least on the outside.
Remember when you got you and the wife got picked up in the Bentley?
Yeah, yeah. Forget the Bentley.
Well, like, so sprinters are great.
And I have a bunch of very wealthy friends that have Sprinter conversions.
Yeah. And they are mobile offices.
This is not always a better.
But a Sprinter is, you know, it's a leaf sprung truck.
It's a diesel. This is an air sprung EV.
It's silent. Yeah. Super plush.
Oh, I'm on board.
You know, Sprinter, you're climbing up like three and a half feet.
Like it's a big truck.
This is like a pretty low floor. It's cool. It's cool.
So yeah, I did that. I like it.
What else did I do that was good?
I drove a car I was not able to bring today.
The it's called the AMG GT 63 Pro. Yeah.
It seems like you've had this car a dozen times in the last year.
Never had the pro before.
My wife is the pro add to a GT 63.
Horsepower goes from 577 to 603.
Torque goes from 590 to 627.
Better cooling, better aero, better tires, better brakes.
Why do they feel the need to add to come?

It I will just say this, it is such a blast to drive.
I was driving all these cars are fantastic.

Could you tell I mean, I need to drive one back to back with a non.

So that's it.

Let me say this, let me say this.
So, OK, what's what's different, right?
About the 991 or sorry, the 992.1 to the 992.2.
Yeah, powers exactly the same, but the final drive ratio is 8% shorter,
meaning that every single gear feels punchier.
That's true.
It feels a little punchier.
That also makes it feel a lot like the ST feels very much like the ST.
So it's the same price.
This one is the ST.
It has, I think the most important thing it has, they did finally soften
the ride for the touring compared to regular GT3.
That's still rides pretty rough, but it has what they're calling anti
dive technology.
The suspension geometry is the same as like the GT3 RS.
So under heavy braking, it doesn't the nose doesn't pitch forward.
The whole car lowers and it's just a trick of the suspension.
Oh, wow.
It's got awesome pilot sport cup two tires with rear steering
that are humongous in the rear.
So the rear end is awesome.
We'll go around any corner.
All GT3s have done that for a long time now.
The brakes are incredible.
The engine is incredible.
It's the best transmission in the whole world, etc., etc., etc.
What this does new is high speed compression.
So I was thinking specifically, there's two spots on the Nurburgring.
If you've ever been lucky enough to drive the Nurburgring, there's the Fox
Hole and then it's like, you know, kilometer marker 17, but you're going
really fast and you jump into a hole.
And in good cars, it feels great because it compresses properly
and the car can handle it, right?
It doesn't squirt out or pop up.
And this car does that.
This there's a couple of spots up on Angel's Crest where, you know,
you're at really, really high speeds and you kind of go into a dip.
And, you know, you you're nervous in a lot of cars because it gets
the car gets light.
You have no braking all of a sudden because the front wheels are there's
no weight on them. Right. This thing's perfect.
Just just literally perfect high speed compression.
Wow. Yeah, just it's one of those annoying vehicles.
Like the harder you push it, the better it gets.
I have no idea where the limits are.
It just keeps getting better and better.
They do such a good job.
And again, it's 300 grand and it drives like it's 400 grand.
Yeah, I totally agree.
When I was so surprised when I got in it with Andy and drove it
because I was not expecting a different experience from the previous version.
And it was a totally different experience.
And I was I got so excited that we have one of these things coming.
So excited. I think ours comes in August.
So no, it's not too far away.
Did you get genetian?
No, I think yachting blue metallic with a tart interior.
That's cool. Yeah, it's going to be great.
But, you know, the spec wasn't what I'm excited about.
I'm so I just loved the way that car drove and to hear, you know,
and to be with Andy Pruninger and have him telling me about the car
and me looking over after going, there's a lot of ST in this thing
and him going, your only decision is whether you want cabriolet or coupe.

I've driven the ST really hard and this really hard on the same road.
This is way better.
I think ST they got, you know, getting rid of the rear steering,
it sounds so good on paper, but it just handles worse.
You get you get a worse handling car.
The rear steer with this grip is and this and the way, you know,
that's the great thing. I love the PDK.
Honestly, if he said go buy a GT3 right now, I would struggle with which to get
because the way I drive the PDK is so good.
But when you get the manual, you get a mechanical locking rear diff
versus the hydraulic one on the PDK.
And that to me is what makes a GT3 a GT3 these days.
Yeah, the mechanical locker and the way they have it with the rear steering.
It's it's like, it's just great. It's just driving Nirvana. It's just it.
You know, I was trying to think like, OK, I drove I drove the the AMG Pro
the day before and I drove this and like, you know, I know the pros faster.
I know it, you know, it does the same things.
It's got the rear steer, but like, what is it about this?
Yeah, yeah, you can get down to the individual parts.
Like you can never really in like a lot of cars, like, oh, I really like.
Well, I guess I like the engine, but it's the transmissions there.
And the computer is doing something with this.
It's like, I like the way the rear end locks up.
I like the way the diff feels.
I like I can feel the front wheel.
I like the geometry of the suspension. Wow.
You know what I mean?
Like you can you can get down to the individual piece.
You know, when you sell bit better, this is what I'm going to get.

back seats in this one? No, no back seats.
This is this is close to how I'd probably spec one, just because there's not a lot.
You got to put the back seats in.
Why is that?
Because there'll be one drive.
And then again, like you're talking to a guy who's owned a lot of GT3s in his life.

To be able to drive a GT3 with a manual gearbox with some people in the back
is a new experience I want to have.
It may not be for everyone.
If it's going to be your first GT3, I totally understand,
delete the seats in the back.
But to not be able to share sometimes the ST
like because the wife wouldn't really she doesn't care for that noise.
You could take both kids.
But I could have taken both boys with that.
A nice, you know, a nice drive.
It's a no cost option.
It's it's cool.
Yeah, this is a very basic spec.
I like I don't know if you can see it, but on top of the dash,
it's got this rubberized material.
Yeah, I do see it.
I like that a lot.
I'm not a big fan of the carbon fiber inside, but that rubber on top,
I think is really cool.
It's like a like a tennis racket handle.

It's kind of cool.
Other thing, the other thing I call that a grip, by the way, grip or an over grip.
So the big change interior wise from the 992.1 to the 992.2
is they got rid of the analog tachometer and they put in a digital tachometer
and everyone cried in this horrible Porsche sucks, blah, blah, blah.
However, you can clock the tack.
So I have it the way I have it set up right now.
The tack is clocked, meaning nine grand is straight up and down
instead of like five being straight up and down and nine being barely right.
You're right.
So this I love because when you're driving fast,
you don't have to look down that far to see where the nine is.
So to me, like, yes, of course, I love analog.
I spent a lot of time thinking about mechanical watches and all that.
But for driving really fast, this is better than, you know, yeah, yeah.
Could they have put in a clocked regular tach?
Sure. But this is an advantage of like, you know, yeah, OK, it more screens.
But when a screen is done well, it makes a difference.
I'm a huge fan of the clock tach.
All right, fantastic.
And we'll take that out for a drive, even though we've driven it before.
I want to drive it again.
That's how much, you know, that day was really funny
because I drove that car with Andy Pruniger.

no, they're making the battery.
It's it's all of this EV propaganda.

And, you know, there's this little small kernel of truth to that.
Up to a certain point.
Jalopnik decided to lay it out in a very easy way and very simple to understand.
And I thought we would cover it.
Burning gas pollutes so much.
Dirty EV, baddie marifraction evens out in about two years.
So what they're saying is, yeah, when you're making the battery,
the lithium mining, the burning of the coal, whatever, whatever you want.
It's most of the burning of the coal in China.
But yes, we can talk about that.
But after 25,000 miles or two years, or if you put on 25,000 miles in one year,
it evens out.
And then for the life of the EV and you don't need to replace the battery packs,
we've all seen the data now.
These batteries do last beyond two years, some past 10 years.
Now you're helping clean the air and keep the air clean.
I wish I would have known you were bringing this up,
because if you look at what China has.
So a lot of those statistics from that study that did this is actually
very old at this point when China was using a lot of coal to manufacture batteries.
China has gone so green.
They have so many windmills.
They have so much solar energy that the battery production process
in the last four years has gotten incredibly greener.
Not only that, as the grid goes greener.
So in other words, like, you know, right now in California,
we're, you know, it's a sunny day.
We're probably using, like, you know, 70 percent of our powers from solar
and wind and 30 percent is from natural gas and a little bit of coal
that we're bringing in from Colorado or something.
As that gets greener, the cars get greener.
So right. Right.
So this says dirty EV battery manufacturing.
There's a way to make a totally clean.
Yeah. Yeah.
You can manufacture a battery 100 percent clean.
No one's really doing it, although it's starting to really happen.
So that is old data.
That this article is based on really old data.
Like it's actually much cleaner.
Yeah. Much, much cleaner.
It's ridiculous.
I mean, if you've lived in Los Angeles long enough,
you know what it was like before all of these electric cars were introduced.
The smog that we dealt with.
Or if you look at Reagan era smog.
Oh, it's insane.
I'm old enough to remember the very end of the 70s.
And, you know, we'd come to LA to watch a Dodger game.
And it was it was just like it was I didn't know what a war zone was at the time.
But yeah, yeah, yeah, totally wild.
Like we have this lack.
Yeah. And we have this weather system that just holds the air for some reason,
especially when you're east of the 405.
I remember in the 90s, but when I'd come out here for the Emmys
and right away, my eyes and my throat.
Yeah. And it doesn't happen anymore.

And California is adding 1.2 million EVs to the roads per year
at the current rate of consumption, and it makes it greener.
Yeah. I mean, again, it's just simpler.
It just makes the air clean.
But like, I mean, I don't even understand how there's a counter argument
because like, OK, turn your car on in your garage and shut the door.
You die. It's not clean.
It's not good for humans or living things.
Yeah. Right. Like it's crazy that people don't get that.
They don't seem to get it.
Yeah. And the reason I bring it up is not, you know,
I just hate when people are out there selling lies about whatever
they're selling lies about. That's all.
And I think it's pretty clear on this show that we like both things.

We like erectile dysfunction drugs with questionable backgrounds

And we like EVs as well for that reason.

It's to get your infotainment info where you've been, what you've been doing
to attach immediately and quickly to RFID tags and Bluetooth devices.
What does that mean?
It gets your fitness tracker.
It downloads your info quickly, your wireless headphones,
your laptops, your microchips, your pet microchip and puts together
in a flash a nice little package about who you are, where you've been,
what you're up to, what your heart rate is, what your dog's age is,
and then sells it, sells you.
That's what these cameras are really about.
And the company, what is the company called there that it says?

So as you're going by, it's not just about speed.
It's not just about where you're going.
It goes way beyond that.
It goes about let us unfairly track you and your life and everything about you.

So why are they putting up all these cameras to look at the robots?

I mean, I would guess that becomes a protected space like your home.

If you're talking about autonomous driving with no need for supervision,
I can sit in the back.

Spike and Jonny kick things off with Pebble Beach plans for the 75th Concours d'Elegance including skipping the Quail to play tennis like civilized people. Jonny recalls the soul-crushing embarrassment of stalling a Pagani Zonda F Roadster at the factory, and Spike brings up Jerry Seinfeld's pre-race nerves with his 908/3.
On the car front: Johnny drove the Mercedes VLE electric van in Spain:(think Toyota Alphard energy, but German and plugged in) and came back impressed. The AMG GT 63 Pro gets a proper breakdown: 603 hp, 627 lb-ft, and enough German naming conventions to fill a dictionary. Then there's the Porsche 992.2 GT3 Touring in Gentian Blue: $240K base, a $38K Leichtbau package that sheds a whopping 48 lbs, and a new digital tachometer that somehow makes it even more desirable.
