The Jeep Wrangler is a tough vehicle designed for off-road driving. It's known for its ability to handle rough terrain and is loved by people who enjoy outdoor adventures.
Fleet service maintenance is when companies take care of their cars and trucks to keep them running well. This includes regular check-ups and repairs, just like you would do for your own car.
The ECM is like the brain of the car's engine. It helps the engine run smoothly by making sure everything is working properly based on information from different sensors.
When a car is masking a problem, it means that it seems to be running fine on the surface, but there's actually something wrong that hasn't been fixed. It's like covering up a bigger issue instead of solving it.
An airbag is a safety feature in cars that pops out quickly during a crash to help protect people inside. It acts like a big cushion to keep you from getting hurt.
A 'parts cannon' is when a mechanic just replaces a lot of parts without really figuring out what's wrong, hoping that one of them will fix the problem. It's not the best way to solve car issues.
The oxygen sensor checks how much oxygen is in the exhaust from your car's engine. It helps the engine run better and cleaner by making sure the right amount of fuel is used.
Trinostics is a way of checking car parts to see if they really need to be replaced, instead of just guessing based on error codes. It helps ensure that only faulty parts are changed.
Diagnostics is how mechanics find out what's wrong with a car. They use tools to read codes and check different parts to see if they are working properly.
A code reader is a small device that connects to your car to check for problems. It reads codes that tell you what might be wrong with the engine or other parts of the car.
The service light is a warning that tells you your car needs some kind of maintenance or has a problem. When it comes on, it's a good idea to check what it means and get it looked at.
Pinpoint testing is a way for mechanics to check specific parts of your car to find out exactly what’s wrong. It’s like looking closely at one thing instead of checking everything at once.
Service codes are like messages from your car that tell mechanics what problems it has. When something goes wrong, the car's computer sends out these codes to help fix it.
LIVE
Good morning folks, you're tuned in to Car Connection
where the coffee's strong, the story's real,
and the wrenches never stop turning.
I'm your host, Niall Motormall Jenkins,
coming to you from the Car Connection Workshop,
where the smell of fresh oil, a little elbow grease,
is all part of a balanced breakfast.
Around here, we don't just talk cars, we live them.
Whether it's a 25 year old Jeep Wrangler
getting a second chance at life,
or a Nissan Road getting its brakes back in order,
or a mystery leak that's got everyone scratching their heads,
this is where we roll up our sleeves and get it done,
with a little wit, a little wisdom, and a whole lot of fun.
The Car Connection isn't just about nuts, bolts,
and diagnostics, it's about connection,
connection to our vehicles and to the people who drive them,
to the community that keeps Niagara rolling,
because when you fix a car, you're not just turning a wrench,
you're restoring someone's confidence, freedom,
and maybe even their sanity.
We're here every week Monday through Saturday
with the MotorMouth Morning Drive,
helping you keep your ride safe, reliable,
and ready for whatever road lies ahead.
So whether you're a weekend wrencher, a daily commuter,
or someone who just wants to understand
what that strange rattle really means.
Welcome aboard and stick around for shop talk,
expert advice, a few good laughs,
and maybe even a MotorMouth story or two.
Well good morning everyone,
thank you for welcoming me rather into your world,
into your car, if you're driving this morning,
you're getting ready to go to work,
putting everything together to get out the door on time,
or if you're scooting through the drive-through,
getting your favorite morning beverage, be careful,
check the order, lock it down in your cup holder,
and keep an eye on the other guy.
Yeah, one on the road, one on the other guy.
If you have a co-pilot this morning,
pass them the 16 pack of Crayola crayons,
and the full laptop made out of a leaf bag.
Yes, you can fold it and it looks like a laptop.
So if your co-pilot is one eye open,
one hand on their favorite morning beverage,
there's still room for crayons, take some notes.
And you can always listen and re-listen to our podcast
on iHeart Radio, just type in the search box,
car connection workshop.
We have officially 79 episodes for you to pick from
at series one, episode 79 this morning,
and they're all listed by episode and series
and date and title, so they're easy for you to locate.
We've also made it even easier for you to connect with us
because the biggest drawer we have in our toolbox
and everything we talk about lives at our website
at carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com,
that's C-C-B-U-S's and Sam N-E-T.com.
On our homepage, you'll see all the logos
for our program partners and recommended businesses,
just click their logo and it will open a profile page
where you can get connected with them
and we ask that you would support them
by giving them your business and we thank you
in advance for doing that.
They make this podcast and our YouTube channel all possible.
Also on our homepage, to keep it super simple,
top right hand corner has all the links
that you need and available to you
if you'd like to follow, share, like,
ring the bell, hit the notification bell
so that you're notified when another YouTube video goes up.
We put three new videos up every single week,
two on Tuesday, one on Friday.
So stay connected, our YouTube channel is there
to teach you the basic fundamentals of vehicle ownership.
So whether you know a little bit about your car,
absolutely nothing at all, that's the spot for you.
You're gonna learn everything from battery testing,
checking antifreeze, tire pressures,
how to fix a flat, how to diagnose it
and fix it and verify that it's fixed.
You're gonna learn service lights,
what does a service light mean?
How do we go into it and diagnose it?
All that stuff and more and breaks and plus breaks,
times breaks, steering, suspension,
so much going on in our YouTube channel
and it's all in easy to understand information.
So tap into that because knowledge is power
and for all you ladies out there
that are the ones that are looking after the automobile,
the more you know, the more dangerous you are
at the service department,
that they don't know how much you know,
but you'll know how to ask, ask, ask, no, ask questions.
Ask, yeah, that's the wood file.
No, I'm not there this morning.
Yeah, so there's so much for you available there,
Facebook, Instagram, Stephensvilleontheweb.ca.
We have a wonderful profile page there
thanks to Skip, Skippy, our videographer
who takes care of that website
and has created it to pull the community
and business owners together in Stephensville.
My parents have lived there for decades.
Yeah, I think since Stephensville began,
but I'm not sure exactly.
There's also a link to our iHeart radio
as well as our merch store,
which proceeds from any car connection,
motor mouth, gear you purchase,
proceeds go to help those struggling with addiction
and they can get to Total Freedom,
Darien Center, New York and Sydney Manitoba.
So the Total Freedom is an addiction campus
to help those to get back to real life,
to get that real life happening again
and say goodbye to that addiction.
Would you help us by doing that?
Fabulous.
Well, here's how we start off the program.
If you're brand new, we really love, love, love
our brand new listeners and visitors
to our YouTube channel, Facebook, Instagram,
the whole schmiel.
So welcome aboard, a big welcome.
We raise our favorite cup of morning beverage,
whatever that is, we count it down three, two, one
and enjoy a swiggy together.
Are you ready?
Three, two, one.
That is so good.
That's so good it should be illegal.
Excuse me?
Oh, that's not mine.
Somebody left it here.
There you go.
Let's have another one.
One for the road.
The Oz of life and that is one of them.
Thank you to Niagara Block at 5000 Montrose Road,
Niagara Falls for making this podcast available to you
this morning, Building Canada since 1931.
Building supplies and hardscape landscaping materials
to help you to create that backyard oasis,
that special space to just hang out with family and friends
or even just by yourself, a little bit of quiet time.
Check in with them.
They've got contractors they can line you up with
but I'll tell you the materials that you can pick
to create that backyard space outstanding,
absolutely outstanding.
Just click on their logo on the homepage
or website at carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com,
same with all our program partners.
That'll open their profile page
and let them know that MotorBouth sent you,
Building Canada since 1931.
When you go there, you've got to have a look
at the black and white pictures of Niagara Falls back in 1931.
It's really, really interesting.
So what are we talking about this morning?
I knew you'd ask.
I'm sorry I didn't tell you yesterday
because I usually put that out there
so that you know what's coming up next day
on the MotorMouth Morning Drive.
Why warning lights mean you're already late?
We're gonna unpack that.
So this is where you might wanna wake up your co-pilot
if you have one and get ready to jot some things down.
So remember, everything we talk about
all lives at our carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com website.
That's the biggest drawer in our toolbox, ccbusnet.com.
And I always put that information in every description
on our YouTube videos and also on our podcasts.
And you can catch MotorMouth's Morning Drive
on all podcasts that are out there.
So wherever you pull your podcast from,
just type in carconnectionworkshop and you will find us.
We're on the big ones, Spotify, Amazon, Apple and iHeart
and we're pleased to be here with you
on the Digitals after 31 years of radio.
Yeah, on the Digitals.
Well, in the Niagara region, what can we expect today?
Well, here it comes, brothers and sisters.
It's still winter.
And I'll tell you this morning at four o'clock,
sticking my head out of the hole
like the brown furry missile, the groundhog.
Yeah, I didn't care whether I saw my shadow or not.
I'm going back in the house.
Everything I read to you
for a morning weather report is in Fahrenheit and inches.
Just so you know, I'm not talking the metric system.
That is the tool of the devil.
That's what I believe.
Today, better than yesterday, they're saying
a higher temperature today is similar to yesterday,
a balmy 21, but we're going to hit 20 today.
So five degrees right now, mostly cloudy.
Of course, it's still dark out.
The wind is making it feel colder about one degree.
Cloudy conditions will continue all day
and today's temperature range is from three degrees,
Fahrenheit to 20 degrees Fahrenheit
and it feels like one degree to 14 degrees Fahrenheit.
E-gads, man.
You know, I did put forward a memo for a January thaw,
but it looks as though we didn't get there.
Now, I'm hearing that we may have some snows
coming tomorrow.
So hey, we're just on the cusp of weekend.
So all of those who work Monday through Friday,
wow, we are almost there.
So I'm just looking ahead here.
Is it true?
Well, let's have a look and see.
Fridays, yeah, I don't wanna look at that.
Yeah, there we go.
Yeah, Fridays low will be nine degrees after 11 p.m.
and the high will be 26 between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Do we have, oh, oh, here it is,
a wintry mix tomorrow and snow.
Got a combination of both.
It's saying greater than one inch.
Yeah, and the wintry mix about 0.05 of an inch.
Now, for us along the south shores of Lake Erie,
anytime snows or wintry mix is forecast,
here's what we all do.
E-gads, man, take a deep breath, gas up the snowblower,
recharge your snow shovels and get ready
because it's a coming.
Hey, something interesting you might wanna check in
and take a look at.
I'm gonna cruise on down on the weekend,
the ice caves at Crystal Beach,
at what we call the old Palmwood.
There's a huge boat launch there.
So you're gonna need to check that out.
So if you come into Crystal Beach off of,
what is that, the Gore, we call it the Gore.
Gorham Road, you exit the QEW at Sodom Road
and go straight, that's what you do.
You're heading south, so if you don't stop,
you will go right into Lake Erie.
So if you wanna do something interesting
this weekend with the kids, the ice caves are back
and I'll tell you, from what I've heard yesterday,
it's a very busy area down there in the Crystal Beach area
people stopping by to take pictures and shoot some videos,
they are really cool, really, really cool.
So little something, something you can do with the kids
is come on down to Fort Erie, South Shores, Crystal Beach,
again, exit QEW at Sodom Road, stay right on there,
that'll get you right into Crystal Beach.
Yes, and you will pass McDonald's and Tim Horton.
So you're in good shape.
So if either one of those is your deal,
we got you covered.
So come on down and take a look, shoot some videos,
because apparently they're fascinating.
So I'm going to go and get fascinated by the ice caves.
So take that all in and probably even Google it.
I haven't, but you can probably Google it
because we did have the ice caves a couple of years ago
and it was a huge, huge attraction.
And they don't always happen.
If we don't have a winter like this, they don't happen.
So come on down and check it out.
Thank you to Earl Louise Grant

They've been in the business 25 plus years
and they have earned the title
Greater Toronto Areas Premier Pre-Owned Auto Store.
They're car guys, they have the resources.
So if there's a specific vehicle you're looking for,
let Earl and Louise tap into the resources
and find that low mileage quality vehicle at a fair price.
They do in-house leasing and financing
and they sell no junk whatsoever.
So when you buy a vehicle at City Auto Sales
and Leasing, you know this.
You can buy with confidence
and nothing less than honesty and integrity.
City Auto Sales and Leasing,
GTA's Premier Pre-Owned Auto Store.
Well, I've been giving consideration
to the 30 day fuel savings challenge.
How do we connect?
How do I connect with you and you with me to say,
hey, I'm very interested in jumping in on that program
and seeing how that works out for me.
And I'll tell you what, if you follow my lead,
you do what I suggest and you're honest about it,
you will put money back in your wallet.
And if that's of interest to you
and keeping your vehicle long term,
giving it longevity and having repair bills under control,
putting more money back in your pocket
than you are in the right place with our YouTube channel,
dial MotorMouth Jenkins,
but you can find all that on the homepage of our website
at ccbusnet.com, card connection, businessnetwork.com,
top right hand corner,
all the links are there for you to connect.
So two areas that you need to connect with me
and send me an email,
let me know who you are, where you are,
vehicle you drive and that you're ready
and up for the 30 day back to back fuel savings challenge.
So we need, I've decided that it'll be a lot of fun
if we have between 40 and 50 households engaged
in the 30 day fuel savings plan,
which is gonna put money back in your pocket.
Minimum, a minimum per vehicle, $100 a month
back in your wallet, that's a minimum.
For some, it's gonna be a lot more, much more.
So you can email me through two choices here,
carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com,
there is a website form there for you to connect
and that email comes directly to my person.
You can also email me through
Stevensvilleontheweb.ca,
click on the businesses tab,
open our amazing profile page
and there is also email available to you right there as well.
So you can shoot me an email from that website.
I prefer you do it through carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com
but there's two avenues there, I will get those emails.
So let me know who, what, and where,
who you are, where you're from, what you're driving
and that you want to sign up for
the 30 day fuel savings challenge.
Let's get 50 households on deck
and have a lot of fun with it.
And then at the end, we'll figure out something
for first, second, and third place winners
that came to the finish line strong
and I will just have some fun with it
and at the end of the whole program,
you'll really get a bird's eye view
on how, yes, you can save a lot of money
and drive an older vehicle just by changing some habits
and changing a mindset, looking at your vehicle
as part of your fleet.
And if it's just one car, that vehicle is your fleet,
your way of making money and being profitable.
You're not paying interest, you're not paying principal,
you're not making payments on the never, never plan,
never owning a car outright.
And that happens to a lot of Canadians
and a lot of people around the world, I should say as well.
Don't get locked into that scam
that you always have to have a car payment,
you always have to be paying interest
because no, you don't, it's not true.
So let's dive into that, we're putting together
a YouTube video to talk, completely unpack
and talk about more about fleet service maintenance
and how when you adopt that into your own vehicles,
whether you have one, two, three, four,
maybe five in the household, if you all get together
and adopt that mindset that this is our fleet
and here's how we're gonna manage the maintenance
and stay ahead of the curve,
you will put a ton of money back in your pocket,
in your wallet, not in someone else's.
So we're putting together a video that I will do
and it will be completely breaking down
fleet service maintenance.
And yes, that includes you and your household,
not just transport trucks, commercial trucks, it's you,
it's you, because there's a lot of companies
that have SUVs and cars as their fleet.
So it's not all about commercial vehicles,
so I wanna make sure I clarify that.
There's a ton of companies that I used to do
fleet maintenance for that they weren't highway trucks,
they were vans, they were cars, they were SUVs,
pickup trucks, yeah, so it applies.
Fleet service maintenance applies to whatever it is
that you and your family are driving.
All right, let's jump into this morning's topic
before I get down too many rabbit holes this morning.
The service light, yeah, I love the topic this morning.
Why warning lights mean you're already late
and that is so true.
By the time that service light has come on in the dash
and put you into an absolute dither and panic,
oh, what's this gonna cause?
Is it gonna blow up?
Can I drive it?
Yeah, you see how the world gets into your mind.
Yeah, you're watching way too many James Bond movies
and others where the car explodes.
Yeah, when the service light comes on,
that's not gonna happen.
But here's the thing, there have been,
by the time that light comes on,
you're so far behind on your vehicle maintenance,
it should not be a shock.
Because at some point, what happens is the computer
can no longer make adjustments on the fly
to prevent that light from coming on.
So in other words, we've run out of ideas.
That's what the ECM is saying.
We've run out of ideas.
We're still seeing that there is a drivability issue here,
but we can't fix it.
There's nothing left to use to fix it.
Then the light comes on.
So all of that that I just described to you
is what's been going on with your automobile
to put that light on.
And lack of maintenance, L of M is the technical term
in the car connection workshop.
L of M, lack of maintenance will put that light on.
So my question to my customers when I had my shop
on the Hamilton Mountain for 11 years,
when I'd have to give them some not so good news
and no good or good news, but mostly not good news,
there would be moments of intense fellowship
between husband and wife, if they're both there,
dropping the car off or coming to have a look,
a look what I call a look EC,
I need someone to stop by so I can walk you through this
so you can see it.
Now it's cool that we can shoot a video
and not interrupt anyone's day and fire that over to you
so you can have a look and with audio.
So it makes things move along so much faster,
but in the day we did not have that opportunity to do that.
Service lights on, vehicle is running like a dog,
a bag of poop and a bag of hammers and what's up.
Well, it's generally when we'll find that a lot of things
have not been getting taken care of
and now they've stacked up to the point
where the car says, I've had enough of you, mister, I'm done.
The light comes on and now it's running poorly
and in some cases it may seem like it's still running
fairly decent, but you've pushed the ECM,
the electronic control module, the computer, the brain,
to its max and it can't fix or mask the problem.
I like to use the word mask
because that's exactly what happens.
There's problems arising,
but the computer will mask the problem till it can't.
And so at that point I'd look at them and say,
well, when was the last time?
I said, I've checked the file
and it's been almost two years since this vehicle's been
in here for any kind of maintenance whatsoever.
Have you been going somewhere else?
And I said, it won't hurt my feelings if you have.
I said, that's simple.
You're here now and here's what we're faced with
to get this vehicle back up and running
and it generally takes a whole pile of things
need to be serviced and corrected
in order to get that vehicle back to health again.
And that's what you have to understand.
If the service light is on, you have to remember one thing.
If something else should go wrong,
that's the only service light you have.
It can't turn it on a second time if it's already on.
Kind of like a light switch in the house.
If the light switch is already on and the light is on,
can you turn it on more?
Okay, I hear you armchair warriors.
Yes, if it's on a dimmer, we can.
Well, way to go.
All right, let me rephrase.
If you turn the light switch completely on
that is not on a rheostat or a dimmer type switch,
the light is already on, yes?
If I said to you, just go and turn that light on for me,
would you?
Well, it's already on.
Well, turn it on some more, turn it on again.
Well, it's already on.
Oh, well, I guess we can't turn it on anymore
or turn it on again, because it's already on.
That's the same principle.
The service light's on for a reason, yeah.
And I've seen some pretty cool abstract things
covering up that service light, yeah.
Like somebody's business card, you know, for hair salon,
or dog grooming, a picture of somebody,
not sure who it is, a favorite pet picture,
piece of electrical tape, hockey tape is good, yep.
Anything else?
A sticker, like a decal.
So that's usually the point where I know
the service light's been on for quite some time
to have its own bumper sticker on there.
Yeah, interesting.
But the light is still on, just so you know,
the light, you know, no matter what you put in front of it,
the light is still on.
There is still issue or issues
that need to be taken care of.
And fear should not be the factor.
Here, fear should not be the factor.
It should be, yeah, okay, the light's on,
let's get it in and let's find out what's going on
and what needs to be taken care of
because we don't have the money to replace this vehicle.
And that's where I see things really
go in sideways for a lot of families.
Discover that, you know, making payments,
you can hardly make the payments.
Excuse me while I have a swiggy, okay?
Mm-hmm.
That's still not bad.
Might need to be microwaved.
Can you microwave that, do you think?
I think you can.
Yeah, this coming summer, this little sideline, airbags.
We're gonna get into airbags and unpack that amazingly well.
We're going to go to a remote area
where no one can get hurt.
And we're gonna detonate,
set off a passenger side dashboard airbag.
Yeah, they're big, like really big, super big.
So it's gonna be good.
I know exactly what to do to make that happen.
So we're gonna do that and we're gonna shoot a video on that
so we can get a working knowledge of airbags,
just exactly how that creature works
and saves lots of lives.
All right, back to the service light.
The first thing I can say to you is this,
though service light comes on,
don't let that set panic into your world because it's not.
It doesn't mean that we're going to change everything
on the vehicle except the steering wheel
and maybe a hubcap or two.
Yeah, perhaps, center cap.
Because that's the world creeping in.
Fear is false evidence appearing real.
That's what it means, that's what I hang on to.
Fear is false evidence appearing real.
You gotta have the faith to know
that your service tech is trained to deal with that.
It doesn't strike fear into us.
I mean, some vehicles, they can be a challenge, absolutely.
And this, automotive repair and service industry
is not for the squeamish.
If you like to be challenged, kids, I'll tell you what,
you will be challenged in this industry from the get go.
And it's very rewarding when you get a vehicle
that comes in, service light is on
and you go through your diagnostic tree
and you get to the answer
and you find the faulty component, you replace it,
you make sure you've cleared out the computer,
you go for a road test and everything is good.
That's a great feeling that you've conquered it.
But there are those vehicles that are,
they're just naughty.
Yeah, they're naughty and they're problematic.
But you know what, for the most part,
we can make correction.
But again, it's, you gotta know
that you've got the technician that knows how to diagnose,
not get out the parts cannon.
That's where the fear comes in.
I finally figured it out.
Why do people panic when that light comes on?
Well, A, if you gotta have open heart surgery,
do you wanna have open heart surgery from the fella
or fella that just barely got through,
if you know what I'm saying?
They passed, but just barely.
Or do you wanna have that heart surgery performed
by someone who graduated with honors?
That's what I'm talking about.
No difference in the service base.
There are parts swapper routers
and you can train monkeys to change parts.
And I'm not being disrespectful,
but you gotta know who you're dealing with.
Is your service center diagnostic friendly
or do they get the parts cannon out
and hope they can cure it and keep that service light
from coming back on?
That's the question you have to answer, not me.
I'm making you aware of it.
There are shops that are great at a lot of things,
but when it comes to diagnostics, they're not so strong.
So that's where they become a liability, not an asset.
So what I've seen and what we continue to see
is a lot of parts cannons coming out
when the service lights on.
The techs are not up to snuff with diagnostic components.
How to use the tools.
Because there is no code reader
and I wanna make this clear, fellas.
There's no code reader and I have one of those
little cutesy wootsy ones from OTC.
It's actually not too bad, but here's what I know about it.
It does not give me the answer.
Got it?
No, that's not true.
It does not give me the answer.
Oh yes, it does.
No, it does not.
It gives you the clues to get you into diagnostic mode
so you do testing.
Not just, oh, I always tell people,
I love to have a half a penny for every Coca-Cola
sold in Canada on one day.
Okay, I digress.
No, every, or is it Pepsi?
The Pepsi challenge.
Either or, a half a penny of every Pepsi or Coca-Cola sold
across Canada in one day.
And the same applies in my mindset.
I'm gonna go a nickel.
A nickel for every fuel cap, ECM, oxygen sensor
that gets replaced and there's nothing wrong with them.
Right, exactly.
That's called, ready for it?
Trinostics, trinostics versus diagnostics,
that's where the parts cannon comes in
and that's where you, the consumer,
feel the fear factor.
So again, when you know you have a service center
that has texts that are really good at diagnosing,
that fears is not there.
Oh, my light's on.
Okay, yeah, we'll book him, we'll get into that
and see why it's come on and diagnose it.
So again, go and get yourself
one of those little cutie woodsy little code readers.
It's not giving you the answer.
It's only leading you to a possibility
of what's wrong with it.
Diagnostics should kick in at that point,
but if you don't, then trinostics takes over
and the parts cannon comes out
and you start stuffing parts on it
with hope that you get lucky.
Yeah, that your luck kicks in.
And you know what luck stands for?
Laboring under correct knowledge
and that fits the bill this morning absolutely of 100%.
When that service light comes on
and you know you have a trained team
of automotive service texts that can diagnose
and they have the equipment, they know how to use it
and they know how to use a troubleshooting tree
to get to the answer as to why that light is on
and they can confidently have that conversation
when they get to that point
and inform you of what needs to take place
in order for that service light to go out.
This time, this time,
because the light can come back on even after we fix it.
For something else, that's the way it is.
Same with working on a vehicle's air conditioning.
If you saw all the components laid on the ground
in a service bay that make up
your vehicle's air conditioning and be going,
wow, there's a lot of pieces there.
Yeah, and every single one of those
can make the air conditioning go down.
So if I fix, I like to use this analogy.
I'm a plumber, I come into your house,
there is a leak in the basement in the laundry room.
So I go there, I diagnose, I repair it, it's done.
Now there's a leak upstairs in the upstairs bathroom.
Was I working up there?
No.
Did I touch any plumbing up there
while I was working in your laundry room?
No.
So why am I responsible for the leak
in the upstairs bathroom then?
Because that's where this conversation always goes.
Well, you touched it down there in the laundry room.
Yeah, but I wasn't working in the bathroom upstairs.
I was in the laundry room downstairs in the basement.
This is where that challenge comes in.
So I wanna make it perfectly clear.
Oh, I shouldn't say those words.
That makes me cringe.
Yeah, it's too political.
I just wanna explain you something, Lucy.
That's much better.
Let me explain you something, Lucy.
The service light is after I make corrections,
so there's the four C's,
concern, cause, correction, confirm.
That's how we build a work order.
Have for decades, concern, cause, correction, confirmation.
That's the test drive, make sure that you're not going home
the light comes back on.
Yeah, then you mail me a dead rat or something gross.
I don't want that, okay?
Just telling you, I got lots.
Yeah, I give them away.
Anyhow, the light is there to notify you
that the ECMs, the onboard diagnostic team,
can no longer fix, mask, and mask the problem
that's been developing for a while.
That's why the light comes on.
And again, if the light is already on
and there's other problems in behind that,
the light can't come on a second time.
After we go in, searching for the concern
and then the cause, what is the causal component
this time around for putting the light on?
Make correction, we need to change this
and that'll correct it.
And then we road test it to make sure
that we've got confirmation secured.
Everything is fine, we're back to normal.
That doesn't mean six months from now
the service light comes on again for something else.
Because it will, that's what the light is there for,
is to indicate there is a problem, a challenge,
a something going on.
But I want to just finish and wrap up with this.
Don't pan it.
Don't let fear creep in when the service light comes on.
Because if it does, that means you don't have confidence
in the service text that you're dealing with
to diagnose it and not cost you a fortune.
Because that's where the problem is.
The problem is in the industry where we have service texts
that know a little bit of diagnostic,
but not enough to get to the goal line.
And so then the parts cannon comes out
because they panic, they gotta get this fixed,
they don't understand what they're doing.
And no disrespect, but you know what?
That's what classrooms are for, fellas,
is you need to get stronger at diagnostic.
That means get away from your 72 inch flat screen TV,
get your butt in the classroom
to become a better diagnostician
and not cost your customers money
at throwing the parts cannon at it.
And that's where the fear comes in.
That is the formula for disaster.
When you don't have a service text you feel confident in
to diagnose properly the first time
why the service light is on and not telling you a story.
Well, you know, we needed to change the computer
because, you know, a duck flew over and farted
and that set the service light.
And then, you know, we discovered
that the fuel cap was not quite locked on properly
and it damaged the gas.
The stories start to grow.
And I've read those work orders
and I actually crack up laughing.
Yeah, what a load of crap with a big K.
No, what I read there is I don't know enough
to fix and diagnose when a service light's on.
So we just threw a whole pile of parts at it
and created a story to sell it all to the customer.
Well, because this went bad,
we ended up having to put that on
and then we discovered that the light still came back on
but now we can't send that part back
because it's electrical.
Once we plug it in, we own it.
That's the backstory.
So again, to close out today, fear,
false evidence appearing real.
That's what it is.
When you don't feel confident in your repair shop
to diagnose and repair a check engine light,
then you're in the wrong place.
You're in the wrong place, baby,
because that's where the fear comes in.
Because the last bill was like 1500 bucks by the time
they got the service light to stay out.
There's the big clue.
And that's where the fear comes in.
Fear knocks, faith answers, no one's there.
When you're working with the right team,
there's no fear, none.
Oh, hey, Joe, service light came on today.
Can I make an appointment to bring it in?
Yeah, we'll get on that and diagnose it.
Yeah, I don't change any parts when a service light's on
till I've done my diagnostics
and I reach my 99% threshold.
That means I've done my dyag,
I've done pinpoint testing,
I know what circuits can be involved
in the service codes or service code that I pulled off.
And I know what components can also set that same fault code.
And then I go and test them one at a time
to find out which one actually set that code.
That's the short story.
So let's wrap it up there and say thank you
to Rita and Ramiz Shinuta, the brothers up in Scarborough
at Rainbow Motors and Garage.
Sales and service you can trust anytime of the night or day.
I don't think that worked 24 hours,
but you can drop it off overnight.
They have a small car lot, they don't sell any junk there.
They also have extended warranties
on some of the vehicles that they sell.
That's a question you can ask when you're there,
but they fix all years, makes and models,
including light commercial vehicles as well.
That's Rainbow Motors and Garage, sales and service
you can always trust up in Scarborough.
You'll find them as one of our program partners
on our website at carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com.
A big thank you to our certified financial planning professionals
helping us to keep the course and stay on course
when it comes to our finances and financial management.
That's what they're there for.
Over 50 years experience, Tony Mele and Larry Tietro
with IG Wealth Management and managing millions of dollars
for others and they're there for us.
They stepped forward in 07 and said,
hey, we wanna be a part of the program, maybe we can help.
Maybe we can be of help and assistance to your listeners.
So they look after portfolio management,
so if you've got some investments with the bank,
you need to get them out of there
because they're not making you money,
they're making them money.
Debt retirement, let's get rid of that debt dragon.
Estate planning, not escape planning.
That's powers of attorney, the whole schmiel that you need
to make sure that your final wishes are taken care of
and that your estate has a plan, should something happen
and you go to your great reward.
You haven't left family and friends
in a great big financial mess.
And I have a friend that's going through it right now
and it's gonna be two years of yee-haw
and it's already not funny.
They can arrange a mortgage, I've had a mortgage with IG Wealth
for over 15 years now and I wouldn't think of considering
going anywhere else, great rates
and fantastic customer service and there's more.
There's a lot more services available to you.
You can get yourself a discovery meeting,
we call an hour and a coffee, no sales, no sales gimmicks,
nobody's gonna, there's gonna be no condemnation,
either Tony, choose to work with Tony or Larry,
but choose to work with someone and sit down
and get your questions answered by those
who actually have the fruit on the tree.
And you know what, get that weight off your shoulders.
You know, if the person that's giving you financial advice
is not standing where your feet should want to be,
then you should respect them, but not listen
because they're not where you wanna be.
And that's it, flat.
So connect with Tony Miele or Larry Tietro,
let them know that we sent you over,
book that hour and a coffee, you can meet in person by Zoom,
a conference call, whatever you're comfortable with.
They can come to you, you can go to them to the boardroom,
meet in a coffee shop, that's where we came up
with the hour and a coffee to just sit and chat
and you're gonna talk more
and they're gonna listen a whole lot more and say less
to see how they can formulate a way for you
to deal with whatever is an issue.
Thank you to our nonprofit, faith-based organization,
Crystal Ridge Dream Center, Serving Men, Women,
Single Mom, Children's, all age groups, meals, love and hope
and changing lives one at a time in the entire Niagara region.
They have a lot of volunteers,
but they lose volunteers all the time,
people move away, people retire and whatnot.
So maybe you can be part of the volunteer team,
maybe you can make the part of your one-time gift
or monthly giving, either way, thank you.
Thank you for considering that
and for the total freedom addiction campuses, Canada and US,
what they're doing to help those struggling with addictions
and that is a serious challenge.
As they provide healing and restoration to individuals
and families enslaved by cycles of addiction
and destructive behaviors.
If that's you or someone you love,
get them to our website, carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com,
click on the link for total freedom
and take a look at the lives that have been changed.
There's testimony after testimony.
They've been doing this for 25 years
and they know, they know how to deal with it.
You can't fight what you can't see.
So someone with an addiction can be very abusive
to the ones that they love,
but they have to make that decision that they're ready.
They're ready to deal with it.
So till tomorrow, folks, folks, yeah, it's Friday tomorrow.
We're gonna be talking about lifetime fluids.
Yeah, lifetime fluids when it comes to your vehicle.
So stick around for that.
I'm gonna unpack that for you
and there's more information coming.
So have yourself a fantastic Thursday.
You've made it to the end of the week.
We're on the cusp of the weekend.
Drive safe out there.
Keep an eye on the other guy and happy, healthy motoring.
And remember, peace, patience and kindness always.
We'll see you tomorrow morning
for another edition of MotorMouth's Morning Drive.
Bye for now.
About this episode
Diving into the importance of warning lights, this episode emphasizes that ignoring them often means you're already behind on necessary vehicle maintenance. Host Niall Motormall Jenkins shares relatable anecdotes about common car issues, from brake repairs to mysterious leaks, while highlighting the connection between car care and personal confidence. The episode also promotes community engagement and offers practical advice for vehicle ownership, making it a valuable resource for both novice and experienced car enthusiasts.
A warning light isn't a heads = up - it's the system telling you you're already behind.
Dashboard warning lights don't mean "schedule service when convenient." They mean the problem has already progressed.
In this episode, we break down:
1) Why warning lights are reactive, not preventative.
2) What's already happened by the time the light turns on
3) How modern vehicles decide when to alert the driver
4) The real cost difference between early maintenance vs late repairs
5) why waiting for a light is one of the most expensive habits owners have
If you want a vehicle that lasts, warning lights are not your maintenance plan - they're your last reminder .
This episode sets the stage for our upcoming Car Connection Fleet Maintenance Schedule and explains why owners who stay ahead save more, stress less, and drive longer.
