Kenan I'm filipo and we're not together

we're in different places but we're

still going to podcast and there's a lot

of news to cover and we're going to

start covering it go for it all right

first news story the Volkswagen ID Buzz

yep of course this is please go ahead go

ahead no please please this is an

electric van I love this news story

because I think this is one of the most

absurd things it's happened this is an

electric van that makes everybody happy

Ken do you agree that you're happy when

you look at it yeah even me I think it's

I think it's really cute I'm really

excited for it do you know what's not

gonna make you happy kenon I'm guessing

the price Doug the pricing has been

announced kenon I want you to take a

guess at what Volkswagen now keep in

mind this is an electric van with like

36 horsepower it may be 200 I don't know

but it's it's an electric V like it's

not a Ferrari it's it's going to be

expensive I was going to guess it's

going to be like

almost 70 grand like I was thinking it

was like9 right around there the basis

model will start at just about

$60,000 plus destination uh what's more

shocking to me is the range it has a 91

kwatt hour battery which is large yeah

that that's like if the biggest

competitor that people are comparing it

to is a Kia ev9 because it's also has

seven seats it's a newer EV what's R uh

231 miles and isn't isn't the base model

just the ID four drive

train it's rear wheeel drive right I

mean there's rear drive and to be fair

to them it has 234 miles it's an

all-wheel drive one that has

231 okay but still that's not a huge

number now the big mistake that

Volkswagen made in my mind with this by

the way the reason I think this is such

an interesting news story is because we

collectively have been waiting for this

car for years I Volkswagen invited me to

be like one of the very first people to

um help la like be be there to launch

the car when it was first done that 17

years ago that was in that was March of

22 okay so it's been two and a half

years since they first showed it off and

there had been Rumblings of it before

remember there's always been talk

Volkswagen's gonna come back with the

bus and they did all these concept cars

this was years in the making okay so two

and a half years go by it's out in

Europe I was in Europe this summer I saw

only the five SE version is the the the

US version is longer well so this is the

big mistake they made they decided the

US market only wanted the long version

the drawback being that it doesn't have

enough power to motivate the long

version and the the short version is way

cooler looking it's it's like the

difference between filipo and a an ant

filipo is the cooler looking one thank

you that's so

kind so they didn't sell the short

version well now we see the problem by

not selling the short version in the US

you have a bad range presumably because

it's so heavy and the cost isn't Ms if

they could have gotten this into the 40s

with a 250 mile or then we're talking

the so the the the cost is high that's

about 5 grand more than where the Kia

ev9 starts so it is high and every other

minivan is what $40,000 that's where

like the Sienna Odyssey Etc start there

are no other electric minivans so who

really yeah but this isn't this fipo

this is 60 the base model is what you

said 62 the base model is 62 with

destination uh the first edition which

is only available the first year and has

some like interior changes it's

67 uh and I think to get the

multicolored

uh like design you have to be up up up a

trim which is 65 or something like that

um it's not cheap it has 280 horsepower

which is exactly the same as the

Odyssey wow comp

point to the range is the big problem

like that just not enough range frankly

the the id4 starts at

39735 but the big difference with the

id4 is you can walk into a Volkswagen

dealer and as long as you have a pulse

you can negotiate the 39735 down to

$12,000 more or less yeah

yep you will be able to on these

$6,000 it's it's so cool and now it's no

one's going to buy it and it doesn't

have great performance because it's 280

horsepower in this giant van and it's

way bigger than people wanted like they

thought people are going to use this as

a practical van that is such BS boomers

are going to buy this to look cool

that's remember their I I I expect that

we'll see a lot in Orange County here in

San Diego people that want to have a

surfboard on top and think that it looks

cool and they'll willing to spend 60 but

then once the 10 original we'll have

lots of them around no we

won't some in Southern California and

none anywhere else who's who's buying

this especially at the size they not

doing the small one in the US was such a

big mistake because now we end up with

who buys small Vans huh who buys small

Vans like when was last time Dodge

Caravan was purchased what are you

talking about my friends and I all have

kondos I don't understand the the

problem right right there's a kondo

reference goodbye everybody I've done my

nobody else sells small Vans for a

reason I I I don't begrudge their

decision just I begrudge them waiting

two and a half years and it's still not

on sale like the mistake you make with

regards to the size fipo is I think that

you and Volkswagen make the mistake that

people are thinking that people are

going to buy this like a minivan I think

that people aren't going to cross toop

this with a Sienna I think people are

going to cross stop this with memories

of their youth like I'm I'm dead

people are going it and they're not

going be like do I get aenna or this

weird looking Volkswagen that cost

$75,000 instead they're going to be like

oh man I'm a boomer with a lot of cash

and I miss having a bus like I used to

in the old days I'm gonna now get this

and that's they're going to sell them in

Monteray to people who like used to be

hippies and now have homes worth $25

million and their basis is 60 Grand

right because everybody else that also

wants a cool Minivan and as a boomer

will refuse to buy an TV so like who's

who's going to buy the the thing that

really shocks me is like every single

Volkswagen commercial over the last

however long has focus on the ID bus

coming out they had that Super Bowl

commercial where it was in like a

shipping container that was eight months

ago yeah it's I I I don't know for sure

what's been going on but just based on

the communication I've had with

Volkswagen it's it's really been a slog

um like why I I just don't you don't

even need to to like federalize any

drivet trains like it's yeah I don't

know I mean it's it could be production

Capac a lot of these automakers have

production capacity problems where's it

built it's a great question I don't know

the answer that Handover Germany damn so

it also won't be eligible for the tax

credit

$7500 it's not eligible for the built if

it's built in Germany it won't be well

I'm going to give you a little hint with

within about six months of it coming out

Volkswagen dealers will be offering the

tax credit through the

dealership just as a discount okay let's

move on to the next d which is almost as

sad as the high pricing of this vehicle

and that is the temporario actually I

thought the next story was Infinity but

we'll talk about the the the John

tamaran yes the the John tamaran or

Tamarindo or however or tamario as

filipo would like to say tamario

Tamar so

yes as we predicted as as they announced

uh the new Lamborghini tamario was was

revealed at the quail this year uh and

it's pretty much exactly like what we

were expecting 789 horsepower from a 4 L

twin turbocharge V8 with three electric

motors one between the engine and the

drivetrain and then two small ones up

front and that's the combined total

output is 789 horsepower and 538 foot

pounds of torque uh and it does breev to

10,000 RPM which is really insane for a

turbocharged engine so like engineering

wise pretty crazy but hang on hang on

the combined output is like 97

horsepower you're talking just the gas

engine is 79 oh sorry yes combined yes

my mistake combined horsepower is

substantially more at claiming 97

horsepower 590 foot PBS of what does the

RTO have uh a, and I just reviewed it

did you watch my video of

course but the the that's an increasing

straight up that's an increasingly small

Gap it is an increasingly small

gra my friend yeah well but you know the

the the other thing that's increasingly

small is the uh the design risk that

Lamborghini is taking with each of their

cars cuz looks a lot like a Huracan to

facelifted Huracan did you see it see in

person it looks a lot like a facelifted

Huracan the rear is kind of crazy in

that it has these ridiculous cutouts and

you see nothing but tire from behind

which is crazy but other than that it

legitimately just looks like a Huracan

Huracan facelift with a with a with a

hybrid power train very disin

good it's fine I I mean obviously it

looks a very subjetive Ive to each

individual person I think it looks fine

uh it just doesn't look it's not very

striking just kind of cool things about

this car that I think really need to be

discussed number one they named it after

John tamaran which I think is is a it's

appropri nod it's like a real nod to the

man he was our podcast guest last week

and now he's got a Lamborghini named

after him and number two it ALS it's

pronounced tamario right filipo yeah

timari Timar that's like Ferrari no it's

it's a Spanish word cuz all Lamborghini

names me don't forget ferari is in it

it's a Ferrari and Tamar irari is part

of it there are rs in both and a and

eyes I guess no the entire word the

entire sounds irari is in both Ferrari

and tari O that's weird nice yeah sure

that's weird what if Chevy named a car

the

forston man you are off the rails

outrageous

but I don't know M another like I'm

excited to see him we'll see him around

I have like constantly already we're

seeing Ros kind of everywhere there were

tons and tons and tons of them at to see

well tub so speak for yourself I've seen

two already in San Diego you wouldn't

know it if it ran you over anyway SE San

Diego already yeah two of them yeah

there was one at cars and& coffee it was

Matt Black and there was an orange one

that was driving around too so they're

around um and they definitely around at

car week all them everywhere but and the

and look I'm sure the car will be great

I think the starting price is around

$280 $290,000 of course none of them

will be that they will all be option to

the moon like the starting price is

$360,000 how much is a Huracan 360 uh a

huracan's base at the end was like two50

26 so that's 100 Grand increase it's not

quite apples to oranges because at the

very end they had the Huracan Technica

which was like

a strip Downy little thing I think and

so this is like this is like a real deal

big guy but it says timario starts at

357 621 in the US when will Doug be able

to drive it and give us all review if

they're already announcing pricing it

must be coming out pretty soon

historically these Lambos have come out

pretty pretty pretty quickly the gardo

and the mercy were they only a year

apart and that was also true of the

Aventador and the Huracan they were I

think two years apart but it was pretty

tight it was like 18 months probably so

we just did tamario soon to I hope for

like winter for you early winter be when

you can review it one hopes we'll see

but underwhelming in terms of styling

won't be underwhelming in terms of

performance but when I was a kid

Lamborghini a new Lamborghini when it

came out was the craziest thing like

when the Diablo came out I was three so

I don't remember it but then when the

merci Lago came out it was

like yeah yeah and even the Aventador

after that was such a huge like and when

the gardo came out I can't even explain

to you how big of a deal that was like

that there was going to to be this like

affordable Lambo that looked like that

but didn't cost 500 Grand and now

they're like facelifts of course they're

also going to sell 10 times as many of

these as they did gardos or any and the

hundred times many that they sold

Diablos maybe not I mean I'm kind of

curious I mean like the performance is

crazy but like the V10 of the Huracan

was and and also the guy before it h

reason I was at the dealer with with the

RTO and they told me they have orders

through like the end of time people that

are buying these don't care about the

heritage of a

V10 yeah espe like the the like the like

not the earliest owners who just want

the new Lamborghini and have a and have

a history with them but like the middle

owners they just want the newest

Lamborghini it's not like it's a turbo

four cylinder or or any like a V8 a 900

horsepower in a V8 is still pretty good

I I think most people just want speed

and power and cool looks and this car

still offers it I don't think it's gonna

I think sales are going to be huge look

at the usus the usus is heinous it's an

Audi Q8 on on heinous steroids and they

sell for bazilian yeah but people are

buying that aren't it's different you're

buying that so you can actually put who

do you know that has bought a Huracan

kind of like you personally know them

who do I know as know no I know people

with taste to buy older Lamborghinis but

I I don't know anybody who about a HC

Alex Troy great I don't know Alex Troy

but then then he shot it from a

helicopter didn't he yeah he's in

federal prison but no I'm kidding he's

not actually and I hope he's admonished

or whatever the the term is admonished

is not the right word I think exonerated

but not admonished okay give me

something else what else you got all

right what else do I got we have the end

of the

Q50 yeah so this is a big news story

kenon uh open your ears the Infinity Q50

has been cancelled wow so sad how do you

gone this car was this car changed our

lives as kids do you understand that the

Q50 changed nobody's life ever no but

come on the G35 came out 03 and it

changed the world legit it I'm I'm dead

serious about this it was motor train

car of the year in 03 first off yes it

was the the Chevy Lumina in like 1998 no

hey wait a minute the previous winners

in 02 was the Thunderbird which I

believe was also a very successful

popular car in 01 was the PT Cruiser so

let's not denigrate the I will never say

anything bad about the PT Cruiser the PT

Cruiser was legit when it came out the

point of the Q50 thing though is the G35

was a huge deal when it came out NO3 it

was a mass massive deal it was finally

the first credible competitor to BMW and

it wasn't long after that when BMW came

out with a ha uh completely altered

three series that totally changed that

whole situation and life got different

the E90 it was like totally it wasn't

the E46 was this and the E90 was this

and the G37 was right there to

capitalize I don't remember the E90

being poorly received when it came up

for styling I remember the E60 being

that way not the the E90 was so but this

is what happens with BMW every

successive BMW people like yeah that

last one was great even though everybody

hated the previous one I was there I was

18 when the E90 came out I will never

forget how poorly received it was people

hated it it was the most widely mck car

in the history of the world and now

people are like oh yeah no it was always

I always likeed that car it was always

great that is true like like Fine Art

the way to make people appreciate be

just needs to kill off the car and then

all of a sudden it becomes appreciated

we'll see what happens with the the

beaver face one you know that that'll

the point is the Q50 is gone and this is

a big deal because that was a Hu I mean

that really was like a massive s success

it carried Infinity through their Peak

era which the G35 and G37 were a massive

sale success the Q50 never was a sale

success it was it's the same car just

with a different name they renamed it

and therefore it's a different car no

but it was a redesign and once they

redesigned it it never did as well do

you remember when they sold the q40

which was a G37 re renamed for a few

years did you know that kenon fun

Infinity trivia there of course I didn't

okay check this out this is the thing

that actually happened Infinity

redesigns the car they decide they to

rename the car Q50 but they decide to

keep selling the old one also alongside

the new one and they're going to call

that q40 and they did this for a period

of time year or two longer than You'

think get away with this and then you

would see a q40 around and you knew that

that person got a great deal or was

leasing it or could not get finan

anywhere else one of the three uh let's

look at Infinity sales figures I've got

them pulled up right here uh I I don't

think we have time for such a sad sad

story how many Q50 okay I'm gonna tell

you this this is I'm gonna I'm about to

blow your mind right here in 2004 this

can't be right also in G35 2004 in

2005 infinti sold

207,000 cars this can't be true last

year they sold 46,000 cars

why more than I was expecting honestly

why are they still doing this what's the

point why not just are they doing this

time are they doing this just to give

sales people like practice in selling

Infinities before they move on to

another

brand it's a great question great

launching pad of Automotive Sales

people I'm I'm I'm not exaggerating how

many cars did did Acura sell last year

oh good question good question I can't

believe that declined that's one of the

great declines in the history of

declines

uh Acura last year 145,000 145,000 wow

man if you're a third of Acura size

that's not a great spot to be part of

Acura that's

like jaguar sold oh wow rough rough

sales for Jaguar Lex did 320,000 yeah

but Jag sold 8,000 cars in the US last

year and by the way now they have no

cars period are you aware of this this

isn't a new story we have on here but we

got to cover this Jaguar has announced

this is a real thing Jaguars announced

are going to take a break for a year

going to take a break just like a

sabatical just like you know need to go

find ourselves you know maybe just take

some time off Gap Gap year for a for a

college student after college before

they start working Jaguar a company that

presumably employs 10,000 or 20,000

human beings is gonna just be like we

don't we're not going to do Revenue this

year we're just not g to make money man

the US market nah

isn't it globally f it is globally I

think the US market they still have some

some 2024 2025 inventory but they're not

like doing are they still going to sell

cars to wh that can be equipped with an

enormous number of cameras and look

heinous the biggest surprise there is

that they still sell the ipace at all to

anybody oh I mean it's it's really one

of the great bad cars I think yeah um it

wasn't I I think when it came out pretty

competitive dra in 2017 they sold 39,000

40,000 cars and now they're down to

eight over the course of six years did

they ever have good years yeah 2017 when

they sold 40,000 cars well 40,000 is not

really all that many did they ever have

like 100 200,000 car sale years did that

ever happen the table I'm looking at

car goes back to 2005 and no and they

never ever at any point had strong sales

years okay no I only want to do one more

news story because we need to move on

but I want to do that off-road Mustang

you had like a picture of some sort of

off-road Mustang what's going on there

what is that that is a rendering

certainly um Ford a few weeks ago had a

dealer meeting as all the manufacturers

have where they go to dealers and say

hey these are the cars we're thinking of

building um and they are apparently

considering an an off-road Mustang

unclear whether it'll be a the card

version of a Mustang or just like a

separate car like the Maki rally who

knows um and also a four-door Mustang I

made a m joke there but it wouldn't be

electric right it would be like a must

it would be using the must gas powered

four-door and coming out with a for with

a four-door car and maybe an off-road

version that's so cool you'd buy this

right I think it's cool it does this

become played out at some point where

manufacturers just do this turn cars

into

off-roaders hasn't no so what else do we

want to see por does it Lamborghini does

ored yeah yeah what sports cars do we

want to see Offroad I want a Mini Cooper

Convertible off-road version you know a

regular two Mini Cooper S like JCW

Cooper S which existed was called the

the Paceman uh nobody bought it but you

know no no no no no I don't want the

pace man I want like nabby tires like

lifted body thing I don't want some

heinous God fipo come on um I want them

to off rify the new M5 that we're not

talking about for some reason despite

the fact that we should be talking about

the M5 touring but uh they could we

already talked about it it it already

has happened Ken and saw in person

probably we're going to K's going to

tell us about car week in a second but

what are we supposed to talk about we

already have made fun of it for being

overweight to to the the end of time

we've already called it a beluga whale

etc etc do you want me to do that more

yeah please more the M5 touring is so

big that it might not drive on the

road give me one more good that's all I

heard when I was there about it too it's

all anybody had to say about it which

was yeah it's like it's so big it's so

heavy oh it's a shame it's so heavy but

we'll get more into that cuz there's a

whole thing around it I don't understand

why people think it's so heavy isn't it

only what's it like 9200

400 hum EV it's not as heavy as a hum

thankfully but it is notably heavier

than any other car in its class or the

class above what okay here's a question

what weighs more the M5 touring or a

Maybach

S-Class my recollection is that the

S-Class weighed less yeah agree I

suspect M5 200 to 300 lb less M5 sedan

no the wagon is 5530 y the the Maybach

S-Class

5200 no way that's crazy do you know how

many screens are in a Maybach S-Class

there like 38 screens you wouldn't even

be able to carry them

right right it's an impressive feat but

BMW found a way to pull it off that is

wild it weighs more than a Maybach s680

or 650 does that have a V12 still I

don't know who knows it it does weigh

less than the S it do it does have a V12

Ken this is insane credit to be BMW it

weighs less than the Mercedes-Benz S63

AMG performance which weighs 5700 lb

yeah but that's a full siiz sedan yeah

and and that car has presumably has a

lot more power yeah has like a th000

pound feeld of torque some of that it's

got real power I drove one of those that

was a great car you know what I was

driving around as I was driving around

you know what I was thinking I wish I

could buy this car but unfortunately I

don't have the ability to stomach

$37,000 in depreciation every week okay

but the off-road Mustang so we don't

have any other information about we know

nothing else so so these dealer meetings

famously every time a manufacturer does

them people come out and say oh we're

like we were shown this but no cell

phones are allowed nobody has photos and

these are also presumably pretty early

render Rings uh of like this is what it

could be but it would be cool well I

drove a rally fighter remember those

yeah of course the Local Motors yeah

that the off of course it has primarily

Honda parts

sure yeah not the is this going to what

model what version of the Mustang is

this going to be is this going to be

what is going to be in this is it going

to make it awesome and put like a a very

serious V8 in it or is it just going to

be well right now it's just but yeah

they would put a V8 in it and they would

they would do it I'm here for or is it

interesting part for me I think in the

hierarchy of cars that exist like this I

think then like I would put I think I

would put the the stado at the top is

the coolest I know it'll be out of

production very shortly I think that's

the coolest this would for me personally

probably be suck if it has a V8 I think

you know the problem is though both the

stado and the DAR as cool as they are

they kind of were cop-outs like I hate

to say it but like like so what the has

the same ground clearance as a Camry

like I wanted to see what I wanted to

see and I'm not exaggerating here I

wanted to see yeah I wanted to see a

real suspension travel Ken Kenan you

know those cars in Iceland you know what

I'm talking about yeah that's what I

wanted to see filipo pull up some

Iceland cars that's what I wanted to see

okay you want to see them turn the thing

into like a bowler wildcat with those

ridiculous crazy lips yes I wanted to be

able to take that not just Offroad but

like I wanted to run I wanted to run

over some some proper that people yeah L

look at that yeah

that's if a neighbor like upset you you

could you could you could run over his

you know can I say something about this

we have a van going live in the next

week or so on cars and bits that is an

Iceland ified Sprinter and it looks so

good

I just edited it today have you seen

this it's incredible it's quite

Mustang off-road let's hope they build

it Kenan and I will buy one and by that

I mean we will look at them when they

are at cars and cost the the the four I

legitimately think is more interesting

right like sure Chrysler Dodge do it

with the the charger Challenger there

might be a real market for a four-door

version of a Mustang because absolutely

charger proves that I totally think

there is Ford has no sedans

period so like this would be their only

sedan sedan which I think is interesting

yeah no I I think especially because

we're not really sure what's going to

happen with the Charger and the charger

two door which is no longer called The

Challenger so it'll be interesting to

see right yeah I'm right y it'll be

interesting to see what happens if they

actually do that I think it could have

at least some success especially if it's

not all that hard for them to make maybe

you know I I don't know I mean they have

to stretch stuff and do stuff and make

stuff it does make me wonder how it goes

yeah it make me wonder if they'll change

the Mach e name like if they're rolling

out like more Mustang products will they

feel the need to change the the other

existing Mustang products um who knows

uh no because they've invested a lot in

it and everybody's happy it's it's time

for a new generation and I'll tell you

the dealers especially are happy before

about a couple things kenon can you

start us off at car week Kenan went to

car week Monteray car week Kenan tell us

what happened I did and it was amazing

there's a lot of hype around it this

year and my god did it live up it was so

much fun it was just incredibly

overwhelming I went with some of our

friends unfortunately Doug couldn't make

it U but I went with a group of friends

you some that are familiar to cars and

bids Sam and and Nick were there and

Kevin and it was great um there were so

many things every year we refine it a

little bit more though we learn about

like what we should do and what we

shouldn't do and some events we learned

are really really worth going to like if

you can it's very expensive but if you

can afford it or find a way to do it

Quail is amazing did you go to Quail

kenon I did dude there series of

circumstances that unfolded I was able

to go which is very nice um and I had a

great time it was it's incredible

um it's it just is like especially for

people who like modern Classics and like

supercars like that's the place to go

and it kind of has become what Geneva

motor Shore used to be I mean cars are

being unveiled there and like that's

exciting stuff and everybody's there

rashio Pagani is there I saw Christian

Ving like talk to Stefan winman for a

little bit like everybody is there uh

and then also people in the car world

are there too and of course the food is

excellent all this hobnobbing and stuff

which is fun but it's a really quality

event and I it it is ludicrously

expensive and I found that I will go

find any way I possibly can to go on

from now till the end of time I just

including circumstances

unfolding yes there were circumstances

that it he's not going to explain the

circumstances not going to explain the

circumstances to you because it was

outrageous but it was a lot of fun it

was an incredible amount of fun it

sounds like something that I wouldn't

have approved it sounds like Kenan used

his we wouldn't have approved a whole

event in general like it's just I don't

I think it's it's too much hobnobbing

for you you would like I'll tell one

thing to do though

I just don't I just don't believe in

using my status to get me into events

and so I don't what you did was sign up

for the wrong for tickets is what you

did but anyway we'll move on what did

you see at the quail what was like a two

highlight from it two high from the

quail well I have I

think well there were two situations it

would great so the one was getting a

picture of our friend Nick who owns a

merci ago with Stefon winkelman now Nick

I don't know that he knew who Stefan

winkman was he the CEO of Lamborghini

incredibly well-dressed Italian CEO as

you might expect and so I was like allow

me to handle all the Talking Nick and so

I went up to Stefan winkman and I said

Mr winkman it's a pleasure to meet you

just wanted to say love your cars uh I

also think that you are I said you are

to Lamborghini Luka de mon was to

Ferrari which he loved he thought that

was hilarious and I they said you're one

of the most stylish CEOs in the world

which is very true did you tell him that

you hated the car he just revealed at

that same event no said our friend Nick

has mercio one of your finest creations

and Nick was very excited I said I would

love to get a picture with you and a

great picture of Nick looking awkward

and Stefan looking perfect I was hoping

you talk about some cars that you saw

but it's okay if you don't oh well there

there were a number of cars that were

were interesting to me so I saw there's

a Ferrari 550 that is modified by um

touring uh or toing super leera

and uh it was it's tough to see uh I was

not a not a fan in pictures and in

person yeah I I wanted to talk more with

one of the engineers and so I did I

talked to one of the development people

about the car and they ran me through

the whole thing the whole body is carbon

fiber I'm like wow that's kind of

interesting so how much weight does it

save and they said nothing we exactly

the same as the original car like okay

so what else did you do to it and they

said well we changed the final drive we

we changed some of the the gear ratios

I'm like okay that sounds cool and they

said and we really went to town on the

engine we gave it a new intake system we

gave it new exhaust system high flow

cataly converters all this stuff and I

said oh great can I see it and they were

like no he he's not done yet and they

would not open the engine base so I can

see what it looked like so it's like the

car is that them and then I asked them

so how many of these cars are you going

to make and they wouldn't give me a

number but it said but we'll deliver all

of them by the end of 2028 I'm like okay

great okay it's it's a complete farce I

think kenon question for you question

for you word on the street that you saw

an aspark owl

no I did not it eluded me I could not

capture the owl which is unfortunate

maybe I need mice or something like to

entice one but I did not I was not able

to capture the owl however people did

see the owl driving or not driving

around sitting around because according

to According to some sleuthing that our

friend Colleen Did it's not operational

so it seems they were willing to they

initially they said it was for security

purposes and then at Pebble itself they

said there was some other excuse they

use but it could not move under its own

power what a surprise first it was in a

in a roundabout in Suburban Italy and

now it's a a pebble it's really quite

the glow up for the asor cow it remains

a stationary vehicle our hearts and in

our minds you know what I think about

with the

owl the re a real owl is this big thing

but then when you look at the brones

have you ever seen small ones have you

ever seen have you ever seen the bones

of an owl look at like a space frame

it's like a tubular space frame yeah

it's like nothing a real owl it's like

and I think that's what this is the

aspark owl pretends to be this thing but

then when you really get into it it's

this thing you know it's like you know

what I'm saying you kind of understand I

know what saying welln named vehicle the

owl part of it oh very well named

definitely well part of

it come on join some of the great super

cars of all time in terms of naming you

Diablo mura well they're also named

after animal

ow yeah nice uh yeah but no I did not

see one unfortunately it was not at the

quail I was hoping that it would be but

it was not but there were a number of

other cars that were what else what

kenin what was your highlight experience

at the Monteray car week it's it's so

difficult to narrow it down I think uh

this sounds very cheesy and it is a

little bit of a cough but truly going

with like your friends who really love

cars and like driving around in the same

car together like admittedly all of us

wanted to have our own cars there cuz

there is something really cool about

having your own car like and showing up

which is which I did last year but being

but also having a car that you can go

around in together like you know six

passenger thing is great and just like

seeing stuff and all freaking out like

at one point we saw a car like we

couldn't tell what it was we got closer

turn it was an E9 CSL race car just

driving on the road and it was like a it

was like a oh my God yeah one of the one

of the things that I remember is that um

all license plate rules are suspended by

the local authorities during the week

people drive around in any

Road illegal oh yeah I mean crazy Road

illegal cars cars registered in Europe

cars prototypes that have no form of

anything no

problem and yeah absolutely that's so

true I but if I if I had to pick one

thing that I really loved uh elicit of

ours and a friend of mine now Eric uh

let us come over like to his place and

we all eventually went over to uh the

staging for uh the tour delegant which

is where if you're part of the concore

you get additional points for driving

car on this huge tour that they lay out

which is kind of arduous for some of

these really old cars like it's a

commitment to do it but we went for the

staging really early in the morning and

to see the cars all they're all just

parked like you know ready to go and to

get up close with them and talk to the

owners is incredible but then we found

out you can also just like Pebble Beach

the like the golf course itself wasn't

really like for the event itself on

Sunday they really are strict about

security but before that like it was

just a golf course there were people

golfing and so like the tour cuts

through part of the golf course it cuts

through like the driving part of the

golf course so we went and walked over

there and stood there and that's where

we start to watch everything go by with

legitimately maybe 50 people there was

nobody around and so like if you can get

into to do that and then you see

everything drive by it is the coolest

thing and the coolest car without

question that we saw my opinion anyway

was the ASM Martin Bulldog we got to see

that drive by and it like the front end

of it drops down so instead of some

headlights pop up and people think

that's cool pop down you don't know what

this car is I do know what this car is

but I'm grabbing a picture right now but

it po the we got to see I got to see it

in person pop the lights down and boy

they're bright they're really bright but

no no click on no kenon get him out of

there click on click on the picture in

the lower left that shows it outside

yeah yeah no not that one that one the

bigger one the bigger one see how hard

this is you the

head one that shows it outside why can't

he just do it there yes yes you see how

hard this is felipo you mock me

constantly you yes imagine the ugliest

thing you've ever seen and then triple

it and that it's picture a an extreme

wedge and it's as wedg wedgy as they get

but that was just to see that driving

around and like you know cetta maroda

was another one to hear that like that

V16 was really cool I mean to to get to

see those cars like driving and in

addition to you know Ferrari 250 GTO and

and all that stuff it was that's really

cool yeah um conjunct doing that like

conjunction on with historics lag sea is

easily two of the best things you can do

and those like cost nothing to do as

well and there was so much fun kenon I'm

glad you went and I'm glad you enjoyed

it I'm sorry I couldn't go I went five

years in a row I think it's one of the

most special times to be a car

Enthusiast I think that um especially if

you're into sports cars and exotic cars

and everything it is just like a the

whole week is like a a Citywide

celebration um of like special cars and

it's hard to even explain to non car

Enthusiast how special it is like you go

into the parking lot of a motel and

you'll see like a Diablo se30 park there

because that's the only accommodations

they could get you go into the you go

into the you know drive down the street

and there's a Bugatti shoe I mean I

remember driving down down Carmel Ocean

Avenue in Carmel one time and a 250 GTO

coming the other direction like yep it

just happens everything is on the table

like all those cars that you hear about

that I only drive this car twice a year

that's this one of the two times that's

absolutely I will say it is exhausting

because you just anticipate around any

Corner could be any car you've ever

dreamed of seeing doing just like being

around you could be singing traffic and

McLaren F1 is behind yout like it's just

that's the that's the reality of car

week and it is like for anybody if you

have not gone if it's on your bucket

list find a way to do it you don't have

to do it crazy expensively either no I

think that's that's the the big truth

that people should understand is that

like truthfully you can have fun just

fly to San Jose run a car and that's it

and like get accommodation somewhere and

that's it you don't have to go to any

events you don't have to do anything you

don't have to spend big money in Carmel

for dinner you don't have to go to any

you could just walk around and like have

probably the if you're into seeing cool

car is probably the time of your life

yeah I think one of the best things is

go get a little bit of ice cream sit on

like a wall and Carmel and watch stuff

come through it it's just it's so it's

so insane and it's it's wonderful so if

if you do if you've planned on doing it

find a way next year go it it's truly

one of the great car auto motive events

of the year no question on the subject

of old cars fipo I'm sure you've seen in

our document here that I've written

something called it's insane that Benz

Is Still rocking it and you might be

thinking what the hell are you talking

about I was wondering exactly that okay

Kenan and I are sitting on my porch last

night and I was like you know what's

Wild the guy who invented the car Carl

Ben right yeah

he's everybody agrees in 1886 the Carl

Ben's Patton motor wagon is the first

car every that's kind of like

universally broadly

agreed it's insane that the company is

still making car like okay like I the

example I gave was imagine if Wright

brothers was making seven s7s like

that's the that's what this is it's

crazy when you think about it that that

Benz is like the still like not only a

car company but like the big like a huge

Global iconic brand isn't that wild the

dude just showed up with bicycle wheels

in a tiller and here we are 150 years

later that's a really interesting point

think I I'm curious I bet there are

other Industries where this is true but

I wonder like what are they like where

was the first guy you know the the 1700s

when such and such a thing was invented

what company is still running of course

p is still making pepper Grinders

they've been doing that for a long time

P still in business okay but is the is

the guy who made the first pepper

grinder is he is his company still in

business good question it's an

interesting point is it not well I will

say that that the P the pepper grinder

was invented by pjo in 1842 and they

still making them to especially it's

especially crazy when you think about

how many car companies failed along the

way but the dude who started the first

one right whose wife Bertha took it on

that trip that everybody knows you know

to prove that cars could be real that

thing is that company is still around

and they made my station wagon and your

your gcab they they've made many of your

cars it's not like the first person who

invented the computer is around like

that company wasn't apple or it wasn't

like that's not around like that's not

the same person it was the the kenb back

one which is and even then even if it

was when was that that that's probably

100 years after the car or 50 years

after the car but Benz is still kicking

it that's a ex I hadn't thought about

that point but that's an excellent point

I mean even the Chrysler Brothers

Chrysler or the Dodge Brothers Chrysler

Walter CH that's over that is

over Cadillac still around Ford still

around which were both early they were

early but I could name 5,000 because I

went on a deep dive of old car companies

a couple of weeks ago there I could name

you 5,000 old car companies that are not

around anymore like there are so many

like like me and kenan's favorite is

Hispano swza like when we see Aza like

we worship at the altar and um you know

my favorite SW of course is the 810 slj

p71 18 cylinder 500- Q Ken and I believe

you agree

um you believe correctly that's what

they're all called but anyway that's the

the watch indust I know you want to talk

about the watch industry is another one

where there are manufacturers who like

invented the wristwatch but we was

they're around inv the wrist like took a

watch put it on the wrist of some that

exists that com it is notable to Doug

point though that Mercedes isn't just a

round like Cadillac just

around but Mercedes is still innovating

they're still like the leader in they're

like the leader like if you want a su

success story of a business founder to

complete like still utter domination

it's this one you just skip that piece

of history between 1930 and 1945 because

mercedesbenz certainly overlooked other

than that I was at the BMW Museum and I

noticed they didn't talk a lot about

that era did something happen in that

period that they should have okay can't

remember what it was there's a lot still

we have to talk about I want to talk

about the um Focus RS can we do that

sure pretty incredible okay I I normally

don't digress too much into cars and bid

stuff I want this podcast to seem like
