So I'm desperate today and I'm falling asleep. It's one of those like

mid-afternoon things. I go out to lunch at like two something. I go to Burger King

and I pull in and I'm like, I want a large Coke. I see.

And she's like, okay. And then she says, oh, are IC machines on defrost? And I'm like, well,

how often does it go on defrost? She says every 24 hours, I'm like,

then why don't you have it when you're closed?

Right. Of course.

The fuck? It's summer.

Especially in the summer. Come on.

No, like the 1-7-Eleven that was on the way when I was doing some testing in California,

it was on the way. It's defrost time was somewhere between 6 and 8 in the morning.

Granted, who's going to have a slurpee besides me at 6 or 8 in the morning?

But, yeah, but I'm like, oh my God, you guys are all slurpee fanatics.

I've never been going to like three or four of them or no. I think it was probably about three

in a row trying to get like a Coke slurpee and like all of them were broken.

Like the Cedar by us, they have 24 by machines. So there's eight flavors.

One of them is Coke and like seven of them are other things.

And they're like, well, the Coke one's broken. I'm like, then you should take some of the other

crap shit out and put the Coke in. What takes me off is that like the AMC by our house,

before they used to charge you the same for all any drink. And now again, now the the

ICs are like four or five bucks more. Their drinks are expensive as hell anyways.

You know, it's like the only thing that I'm interested in, right?

The only thing they make on the on-surf.

And yeah, this is supposed to be one of Cara's seminal stories,

or the most important story in her comic book canon.

And they did not do it justice.

I liked the actress.

I liked her in House of the Dragon quite a bit.

And I'm a fan of the director also.

I think Craig Gillespie has made some pretty good movies.

But yeah, this was not good.

Has he made any very good movies, though?

I thought that Lars and the Real Girl was very good.

That was good.

That was pretty good.

Itaunia was excellent.

But both movies are kind of indie, darling movies where sometimes a director

that makes that transition, like he obviously did here,

where he's got a lot of money.

But saying basically, it's the worst James Gunn movie, I'll have to say.

That wasn't too bad.

Biologically, then, then Kal-El, like she was actually born like she was supposed to take care of him.

She was like a suspended animation.

And then there was, yeah, there was like.

She was missing her accent.

And that's how she ended up landing after he did and and physically looking younger than him.

But chronologically, she's supposed to be older than him.

They changed that in the movie.

Did they change the villain plot?

Yes, because he's not super powered in the in the story.

He's not.

And the whole thing with his wives and all that, that was also added into the movie.

Yeah.

And I don't know about you guys, but I mean, I think this is the first time I've seen the green sun.

Yeah, green sun was.

Yeah, I never heard of a green sun.

Never.

So while we're there, was it just me, the green sun was like, I don't think that's real.

But I mean, it's a comic book.

So whatever, maybe I missed it.

But yeah.

Where exactly did he know she was from Krypton?

I guess, probably, I don't know.

This was like what my mind went to when I saw it.

I guess maybe he just saw, oh, there's this person flying with laser eyes and stuff.

That's a Kryptonian right there.

But just to be safe, we're going to put her on this green sun planet.

Because there's two.

Right.

So it's not like these are widely known.

You know, across the universe.

Oh, it's a Krypton.

We got to get to a green sun.

Yeah.

So I know.

But when they did, when he when she did mention who she was, the younger girl knew who she was.

So there was a history that went out of that planet going up.

She did.

Yeah, I think she would say.

So I think the population in general knew that that the planet had been destroyed.

But I don't know that that they that it was public knowledge that there were, you know,

two survivors.

And that it would you they would be green sun.

Yeah.

Disturbed by.

I mean, the Krypton, the Krypton Tribune did not sit there and say, hey, by the way,

when we get away from this planet and we're causing any issues, just take us to a green sun.

I don't think that was one of the.

Kryptonite was not one of the.

He had a history coming out of Earth.

But in general Kryptonite, it was not a known thing to hurt Kryptonians.

Yeah, yeah.

It also was a reaction due to the planet piece being subjected to yellow sun.

Yeah.

Oh, so.

So, can I.

Maybe it was an educated guess.

If the if the planet's piece that they're on is subjected to yellow sun, let's use math.

So, so here's.

So all of them are superheroes now.

And they could just fly away.

And I'm going to tell you that that there's definitely Vicki.

There's a flaw with the whole him knowing about the green sun and all that because, you know,

unless they're changing the canon even more in the comic books, aside from her being older,

they've always like made Krypton a xenophobic planet where they.

Yeah, nobody had ever.

Right.

They so nobody there's no way like other aliens would have known that they could have been

weakened by a green sun or.

Yeah.

Or I just Google it right now.

Green suns first appeared in Superman 155 in 1962.

In that story, a villain used a giant filter to turn aliens planet sunlight green,

which temporarily drained Superman of his powers.

Well, but it's not a natural.

So let me have a little more than drain her powers.

Let me have a dissenting opinion here.

So I do not read comic books my whole life.

I am not a DC guy.

I'm not a Marvel guy.

I watch all the movies.

This movie was not great.

No, but it was not the horrible mess that I think a lot of the people are trying to say it.

I agree.

OK, so I completely agree with you.

I'm to be fair, Alex kind of tempered my expectations because.

I mean, if you've got Alex, it's pretty bad.

Yeah.

So the fact that you made it seem so horrible, probably, you know, lowered my expectations.

It's pretty bad.

However, I don't think it was as bad as you did.

I actually I think her performance was great.

I think really good job.

She did the problem with the movie.

they just don't fare well because I don't think they write them well.

Villain, like if you think back most, if not all of the great superhero movies have a great foil to the hero.

You know, you have to.

It's like without that, and this really, God.

And this dude sucks.

It was very cliche.

So forgettable.

I have to say it was all all the villainy was cliche.

Yeah, it was it was very predictable.

And you already knew the outcome before it before it even started.

I mean, honestly, I was just telling Bill on the way out, they ran a rubric on it.

They ran a rubric and it's the same rubric that just goes through all the movies.

It was mechanical.

It was very mechanical.

And I I'm not faulting any of the acting at all.

Like I said, they did great.

The effects were great.

But but they did try to pack a lot into it in a sense where they wanted you to get emotions from a lot of different places.

And you really couldn't focus on one.

It's just like a real Tom King comic.

The the story is great, but the dialogue is trash.

Yeah, the story was great.

A lot of people complain about the the similarities to true grit.

That was actually the aspect that I kind of liked about the movie, you know,

and to her relationship with the girl, that was good.

But that was good.

She was so forgettable.

I stayed to the credits just to figure out her name.

I didn't mind the interplay between the two the two girls, women,

She had the same but less catchy phrase every time she introduced herself.

because he's kind of like DC's Deadpool, right?

So he definitely got a lot more traction there.

But I mean, look, Carl, Carl Drogo, Jason Momoa would have freaking knocked it out of the park.

This absolutely throws a monkey wrench into James Gunn's plan.

And Matt Reeves' stuff has been both critically acclaimed and made pretty decent money.

If Clayface is not successful, they will not make James Gunn's Batman.

is that I think the population is starting to, if not already there, at superhero movie exhaustion.

The thing is, is that everybody going in is starting to recognize a rubrics.

And the rubrics are definitely within DC.

Now, you have a whole different formula that is happening over on the Marvel side.

They're a lot less.

But they're struggling too.

But it always seems like on the DC side, they can't get out of their own way.

I don't know what's going on over there, but there always seems like they keep trying,

and then they're trying, and they have a couple wins, but then they're trying.

And I think that their movies have just gotten to a point, at least on the DC side,

is that they're just highly, highly predictable.

And they have to take another turn.

Whether they go a darker route, I mean, darker would be great.

And you can leave the Marvel to the lighter side.

You can't do darker.

The one thing I'll tell you, the one thing I'll tell you is that I think people are still

receptive to, you know, maybe they see DC, they see Marvel.

OK, but I mean, Masters of the Universe actually made money.

And so did so did Mortal Kombat.

But they broke out of the superhero rubric.

And they were actually, they had completely different formulas.

Mortal Kombat's actually a half decent movie.

As a non-DC person, someone who has not read the comic books and not all this,

you're all excited for Clay Face and the Man of Tomorrow.

I'm ready for lanterns.

I think lanterns looks amazing.

I think Lindelof doing something that's more true detective is absolutely the

way we should be moving.
