The Tesla Model Y is a small electric car that looks like a small SUV. It runs on batteries instead of gas and is known for being fast and having a long driving range. People talk about it because it’s a popular and modern type of car.
Work time is how long you have to spread or wipe a product on your car before it starts to dry and gets hard. More time means it's easier to apply without messing up.
A wipe on ceramic coating is a kind of car paint protection that you apply by wiping it on with a cloth. It's made so regular people can use it to protect their car's paint and make it look shiny.
Spray ceramic coating is a way to protect your car's paint by spraying a special liquid on it. It helps keep the car shiny and safe from dirt and scratches.
Ceramic Pro is a company that makes special coatings to protect and shine your car's paint. They have different types you can apply yourself or have a professional do.
Tough A Shell is a special coating you put on your car to protect it from dirt and damage. It helps keep the car looking clean and shiny for a long time.
An applicator is a tool you use to put things like polish or coating on your car so it spreads evenly and looks nice.

One thing I hear all the time is that ceramic coatings are hard to use and in
fact this used to be very very true. So hard in fact that people, professionals
would market that they were selling one ceramic coating and they would actually
be in the back installing a different ceramic coating because the one that
they were marketing though had great marketing was very difficult to apply
and in fact some coding companies even boasted that their ceramics were hard
to apply and they use that as reasoning as to why you needed to come to their
training and spend $1,500 to learn how to apply their overly difficult ceramic
coating so that you could become certified. In fact we still are seeing
some of this where brands are kind of gatekeeping their technology in order
to sell trainings and in fact they make their money off the trainings not
actually having a good product and there is definitely ways that you can mess up
a ceramic coating. In fact I remember back I had a guy that had a brand new
black Tesla Model 3 bought a coating on Amazon and applied the coating and
apparently didn't read any of the instructions because he only applied it,
let it flash but he never leveled the coating and when he did the whole car
like this and then when he realized he or he thought he had messed it up what he
did instead of trying to fix it then was he actually tried to just apply more
coating and he ended up using a whole it was like a 50 mil bottle on a little
Tesla Model 3 and had called me and said hey I messed up my ceramic coating do
you think you can fix it he brought it by and I tried sanding I tried heating up
the coating with a rotary really hot and I could not make a dent in a coating
that he had essentially messed up. Now granted that was I don't know seven or
eight years ago now but technology has evolved I guess and when you look at
ceramic coatings now most of them a lot of them and they should be really
impossible to mess up but the one that is literally the most impossible to
mess up is the gloss boss and this was done completely intentionally before you
had these coatings that were very difficult to apply some of them still
even are they're very you know temperature sensitive humidity sensitive
they are you know only work when they are you know applied to a perfectly prepped
surface and there's extensive instructions on how to get this you know
perfectly prepped surface which don't get me wrong a prepped surface is
important but a lot of them more so have heat and temperature kind of not
restrictions but guidance guidance is to get perfect application of the coating
and what I've realized is that a lot of these issues actually stem from not the
solids and the actives in the formula but all that additional stuff that you
need inside the formula so the solvents the carriers and those things that kind
of make the formula work obviously you can't have a hundred percent solids in
a formula that wouldn't work either so you need carrier solvents and all these
other things and ingredients you don't make brownies with just powder right you
have all these eggs and oil and water and all these other additional ingredients
and what I realized and what I'm you know beginning to realize with a lot of
other products too and I mentioned this before is brands will either knowingly
or not knowingly which I think happens more times than not not knowingly will
use formulas that don't have the highest quality solvents or carriers or
whatever and so that the issues and the difficulties that you have are not from
the solids necessarily or even the percentage of solids though that does
come into play but it's actually from those additional ingredients in the
formulas that make it difficult or make it finicky with temperature humidity and
so what I really wanted to do when I was developing a wipe on coating was kind of
do things differently shocker that's what I do and so I wanted kind of a wipe
on wipe off formula but I really wanted longer work time so a lot of times in
fact I'm as an aside I'm working on it newer version of either the gloss boss
or maybe an entirely new ceramic coating and I got the first iteration of it and
the wipe off is like instant like you literally have to instantly wipe it off
but Walter told me that I had like the same amount of work time as the gloss
boss which is five to 15 minutes and so the first application I waited five
minutes and it was like stuck on there it's like rock hard and so anyway I have
to work on that but I wanted really long work times I wanted to be more
forgiving I have all that experience and knowledge from not only applying
ceramic coatings myself that are difficult and how frustrating that could
be for the installer but then I have the experiences like I told you about that
person who literally wiped on the coating and two days later like basically
messed up the whole car they were probably gonna have to get it repainted
which is crazy on a brand new car and what I realized is that today's coatings
at least my coatings I'll speak for them I don't know every coating on the market
are designed so that regular people can use them and get the benefits of a wipe
on ceramic coating so we obviously have the wipe ons and we have the spray
coatings as well again spray coatings were kind of in that same boat I think
about ceramic pro sport I don't know if you guys were around when that was
popular that was a booster to the ceramic pro wipe on coating line and it was
just like not super difficult to apply but like difficult enough to where you
got really frustrated right and I think that's where modern ceramic sprays like
Tuva Shell or wipe on coatings like the gloss box have really evolved and really
get to to shine is when you're can use it in direct sun it's not streaking on
you but you still get all the added benefits that you're looking for the
water behavior the water beating the surface that's easier to clean stays
cleaner longer all those things works on everything I think that's you know
really really added benefit of that so I think when it comes to you know the big
difference between modern ceramics and and and ceramics of when they first
started to come out is especially with the gloss box you really can't mess it
up and I think that is a real benefit benefit to everyone and I think more
so than you know I think a lot of brands go for longevity claims and oh my
coating last nine years or 12 years or lifetime or a hundred fifty years and you
know it's put on by NASA or it's put on by Boeing or whatever but I think when
it comes to you know those of us that are just doing it in our garage because
we want the added benefits of a coating we don't care as much about how long
this is coding the last because we're detailers we're car people we're gonna
maintenance our car we're we're not looking for a set it and forget it
product but in order to get those benefits we want something that's easy to
apply that we can't mess it up right we really cannot mess it up and so I think
most people and this is the reason why I did it for my product line I think most
people are looking for products that are easy to use right they don't want to
have to overthink it they don't want to have to become a certified installer to
install the coating but they want all the benefits right and so I think people
still make the mistake that a coating needs to be super you know tricky to
install and and all that and it really doesn't right you just need to apply it
on the surface let it marinate on the surface for a little bit and then level
it with a nice towel right and then you get all the added benefits of course if
you can get some synergy with like if you want to polish the paint before you do
that I still think this is another side I still think the verdict is out to
whether you really do need to paint polish get the paint perfectly polished
before you apply a coating I do on my customers cars I like it on my personal
cars but I think the verdicts out to whether that actually you know makes a
substantial difference or not I think a technical video would be interesting on
that but I think more than anything people want and I want a coating a
ceramic coating that's easy to easy to apply easy to use so whether it's the
gloss boss or tough a shell we're wiping it on you can do it in the shade
outside and it's gonna work great it's not super temperamental when it comes to
humidity or or to temperature obviously you will have to adjust accordingly to
that a little bit but there's not a massive span it's not like I tell you
to wait five to 15 minutes before you level the gloss boss and it's really 30
seconds it's not gonna be like that and the reason why I wanted a really long
work time is because for me personally after I got done polishing a car the
last thing I wanted to do was actually take a lot of time to apply a ceramic
coating but that was the whole purpose of doing that right and so that's why I
developed the gloss boss and how I tell people you can literally apply it to
half a car before you go back and level because it's that forgiving it's that
easy the next day if you see a high spot you can easily polish that out just a
little bit with the pixel per polish but your applicator is gonna get rock hard
and you will see that water beating and that water behavior like crazy after so
it is really really difficult and virtually impossible to mess up the
application of the gloss boss and I think it is the best ceramic coating on
the market I think it last well it'll last a lifetime if you maintain it
especially with something like tough a shell it's gonna repel dirt it's gonna
make your car look phenomenal but it's virtually impossible to mess it up so if
you are looking for a ceramic coating the gloss boss is not a ceramic coating
of yesteryear it's not difficult to apply I have people applying it to fishing
boats I have people now applying it to tractors I have people applying it to
their daily driver cars and the consistent feedback that I get on it is
wow this ceramic coating is so easy to apply and the same thing is happening
with tough a shell as well just people are amazed that products can actually be
so easy to apply and still get such great benefits of them so if you're looking
for a ceramic coating I highly suggest the gloss boss it's virtually impossible
to mess up and that is done on purpose so hope you guys enjoyed that one catch
you on the next one
About this episode
The discussion dives into the evolution of ceramic coatings, highlighting how early products were notoriously difficult to apply, often requiring expensive training. The host shares personal stories of application mishaps and explains how modern coatings like Gloss Boss and Tough a Shell have been intentionally formulated to be user-friendly, forgiving, and effective even for non-professionals. Emphasis is placed on longer work times, ease of application, and reliable performance without strict environmental constraints. The episode challenges the notion that ceramic coatings must be complicated, promoting accessible products that deliver excellent protection and water behavior without the hassle.
One of the biggest myths in the detailing world is that ceramic coatings are difficult to apply.
For years people were told that coatings were only for professionals… that you needed perfect prep, exact flash times, and that one mistake could ruin your paint.
And honestly… that used to be true.
But modern ceramic coatings have evolved a lot.
Today there are ceramic products designed specifically to be easy, forgiving, and safe for everyday car owners to use.
In this video we break down:
• Why ceramic coatings used to be difficult • Why that reputation still exists today • How modern coatings have changed • The difference between spray ceramics and wipe-on coatings • The biggest mistakes people still make when applying protection • Why ceramic protection actually makes washing your car easier
We'll also talk about why the real benefit of ceramic protection isn't just gloss — it's how much easier it makes your car to clean every time you wash it.
If you've ever thought ceramic coatings were too complicated, this video will change your mind.
