Have Dog Will Travel - Mallory Paige

Have Dog, Will Travel - Mallory Paige, Baylor and Rufio star in Operation Moto Dog Many people in this world have a dream to travel, but we aren’t living our dreams because of fear. Fear of not knowing enough, not having enough money or not having the right equipment. Fear of what our friends or family might think, fear of being alone. The biggest hurdle is getting past all that, and making up your mind to just do it.  Mallory Paige didn’t have a motorcycle, she didn’t even know how to ride one! She didn’t have any moto travel experience, or even any camping experience. Many people say it doesn’t take any courage to travel, but it does take determination. And that drive is what it took for Mallory to make the impossible, possible. Website: www.operationmotodog.comFacebook: www.facebook.com/operationmotodog/eBook: www.gumroad.com/l/OMD-AK# Music: Stop Allhttp://www.freesfx.co.uk/download/?type=mp3&id=1593, http://www.freesfx.co.uk/soundeffects/dance/ See more at Adventure Rider Radio ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Sturgis to Ushuaia Via Labrador - Michelle Lamphere

Michelle LamphereFrom the beginning of time people have set out on journeys of discovery and adventure in search of new lands, riches, food and sometimes I imagine, just for the sake of discovery with no idea or concept of an outcome. Perhaps with just the resolve that it WILL bring change and that change will mean good things to come. All great things, large and small have be borne of journey’s mated with discovery of one kind or another. And it’s in hindsight that the journeys are seen as “good causes” - rarely in the moment. Most journeys have not only changed the lives of those whom experienced the journey first hand, but others as well. Sometimes through the discovery itself, new lands foods or ideas and other times just through connection and information and the telling of the story. The cynical observer may describe a motorcycle journey as a narcissistic hoarding of time and resources for lofty intangible ideas that benefit of now one. Yet when we hear these journeys that others have taken it fuels our imagination, jumpstarts ideas and creative thought for our own life and provides a window through which we glimpse, even if for a moment another way.Not all journeys are planned, some come about  through an event or outside forces. Michelle Lamphere is one of those adventurers. Michelle Lamphere was born is South Dakota, Sturgis South Dakota. And yes that is the famous Sturgis that each year attracts hundreds of thousands of bikers to celebrate, well, I’m not sure what they are celebrating but it’s a big gathering and a huge party. Anyway, Michelle grew up seeing the event for both good and bad grow each year and because of that motorcycles were just a way of life for her.But riding for Michelle was limited to short runs on her Harley Davidson and the desire to meld the bike with adventure travel didn’t come until a stranger came to town. And when he did Michelle’s life took an unexpected sharp turn.More at www.adventureriderradio.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Motorcycle & Gear Security For Travel

On October 28, 2015, the National Insurance Crime Bureau released a report on United States motorbike thefts.  In 2014, there was a total of 42,856 thefts reported, compared to 45,367 in 2013, a decrease of six percent. Great news, especially as motorcycle sales increased by four percent in the same period. The top 5 motorcycle stolen (by manufacturer):1. Honda2. Yamaha3. Suzuki4. Kawasaki5. Harley Davidson Most motorcycle thefts occurred in August (4965) and the fewest were in February (1978) indicating a weather influenced pattern, which remains consistent with previous years. With the cost of many motorcycle models now being $20,000 US or more, they have become a valuable target for thieves. The stolen bikes are either sold whole, stripped down for parts resale or reconstructed in to another motorcycle. Many parts, including frames, can be easily altered and reused. As such, there is a low recovery rate for stolen motorcycles, approximately 25-30 percent. Wanting some great answers on bike security, we figured the best place to turn to were the people who ride, the experts who have travelled to many different destinations in the world, and who would have the experience first hand on how to protect your motorcycle and gear from thieves. Sam Manicom is an adventurer and author that has travelled extensively. Africa Motorcycle Diaries - Spencer Conway

Africa Motorcycle Diaries - Spencer Conway   In November, 2009, Spencer Conway left for a 9 month journey around Africa on his Yamaha XT660. His journey was documented by Diesel Films in partnership with the Discovery Channel. Although he was followed around by the film company for parts of the trip, they were not allowed to offer any assistance as the trip was to be completely solo and without a support team. The plan was to complete the tour and raise money for Save the Children UK for it’s projects in Africa. He experienced a great deal on this trip, being shot at by armed bandits, stoned by angry villagers and being robbed. Much has come of the adventure including a book that he is in the process of writing and a six episode programme on UK and Europe TV this November on the Travel Channel. Website: www.africa-bike-adventure.comTravel Channel promo: https://youtu.be/zoSO_Dn_a3sSave the Children UK: http://www.savethechildren.org.uk The Great Australian Ride - Stuart Ball An epic 21 day adventure ride across Australia to raise funds for SIDS and Kids. Website: http://www.thegreataustralianride.comSIDS and kids: www.sidsandkidsqld.org  Music Credits:Group:Song:More at www.AdventureRiderRadio.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Cultural Speed Bumps

Pakistan Woman Motorcycle ExplorerIn Pakistan, women’s mobility in public is a major social issue. There are socially sanctioned rules which indicate how a woman may sit as a passenger on a motorcycle. But, Zenith Irfan, a 20 year old female student in Pakistan, has become a heroin to women who want to have the independence and choice to ride a motorcycle. Zenith says that there is a social taboo for women motorcycle riders in Pakistan, but one of her goals is to stop the gender stereotyping and encourage Pakistani women to follow their dreams.  Inspired by her father’s unrealized dream to travel the world by motorcycle, and encouraged by her liberal mother, Zenith travelled the treacherous terrain of the Pak-occupied Kashmir belt in northern Pakistan on a solo motorcycle adventure for one week.  She is an icon for women riders around the world, crossing barriers and making the choice to… just ride no matter what. Twitter: @ZeniXeniFacebook: zenithirfan.zi More at http://www.adventureriderradio.com ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
