On this special bonus episode recorded before the motorsports world shut down over the COVID-19 outbreak, Autoweek’s Matt Weaver previewed the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series season alongside Joey Barnes. The episode was recorded in Downtown St. Petersburg with the two hosts detailing what it was like to be at the epicenter of the last remaining racing event with cars on track in the United States before the declaration of a National State of Emergency. Additional talking points included the start of a new era for IndyCar under Penske Entertainment, championship favorites and the impending arrival of NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson and Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin. The show ends with a debate over who has the most to prove this season and the answers were the two would-have-been faces of the old Indy Racing League in Marco Andretti and Graham Rahal. On this special episode of the “Autoweek Podcast,” the Autoweek gang jumps headfirst into the biggest racing movie of the year, Ford v Ferrari. Kicking off the episode, Mike Pryson and Wesley Wren talk with current Ford Performance Motorsports director Mark Rushbrook about the Ford GT’s return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016. They also talk about how exciting a movie like this must be for current Ford Motorsports endeavors. Following the Rushbrook interview, the guys sit down with Mose Nowland: the man behind the 1966 Ford GT40’s engines. Nowland talks about the 1966 race, his experience developing engines for Ford and his life in general.
