This is a rebroadcast of episode 24 'ICE, ICE, baby0. During this week friend of the podcast Andrew Till posted an excellent video doing a Top gear style review of a Fiat 500 petrol vehicle in the same style as Top gear tended to review electric cars. 34 - The FUD Episode
This is Episode 34 of ‘EV Musings’ a podcast about Electric Vehicles and things that are interesting to Electric Vehicle owners Today’s show is called ‘The FUD Episode’ (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt), subtitled ‘They’re banning Fossil Fuel cars in the UK from 2035!’ The UK government announced recently that they are bringing forward the deadline at which new fossil fuel cars will be banned from sale, from 2040 to 2035. There have been commentors throwing out lots and lots of positive and negative (but mostly negative) comments everywhere about this. But here’s the thing. The vast majority of the negative comments are based on Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt rather than anything concrete. What I want to do in today’s episode is address a number of this comments and give you some facts about the actual situation. More specifically how can we best get charge into our EVs at home. When looking at an EV the main advantage you have over an ICE vehicle is the ease with which you can charge your car. Nobody has a petrol station at home. Almost everybody has an electricity supply at home. (Even if they can’t actually use it to charge their car for off-street parking reasons) But with this comes issues of how much can it cost to put that electricity into the car? In today’s episode we’re going to talk through some of the options you have for charging - providing you can charge at home. If you can’t charge at home - like Simon - then maybe look at this as an example of how you can mitigate or reduce your electricity costs overall.
