Episode 85: Part 2 of our behind the scenes tour of SNG Barratt

In this episode, Wayne Scott continues his in-depth tour of the behind the scenes workings of Jaguar parts supplier, SNG Barratt.In this second part of our tour he concentrates on the areas of the business that are developing new parts to keep old cars on the road. From 3D printing to skilled craftspeople fabricating parts by hand we explore all aspects of reproducing and improving parts for classic Jaguars. We also have a poke around the old presses and visit the workshop of Peter Stant to explore how they test parts in real world conditions, on real cars. The tour ends in the design department where scanning and computer modelling is being utilised to create small production runs of complex components. We even pop in to see the IT department as well, which is larger than you might imagine! This podcast is a must listen to learn more about how unavailable parts are being made in collaboration with the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club to ensure good supplies of parts long into the future.

Episode 84: A behind the scenes tour of SNG Barratt

In this episode, we have the first part of our behind-the-scenes tour of SNG Barratt. Wayne Scott pops in for a day at SNG Barratt to have a snoop around the warehouses, workshops, and offices with Julian Barratt for a detailed look behind the scenes at the one of the largest suppliers of Jaguar parts in the world. In this episode we meet Julian at the front desk at SNG Barratt’s UK headquarters in Bridgnorth, Shropshire. He takes us through the warehouse to walk us through the technology employed to search, store, pick and dispatch parts across the world. After that, we head up to the Lucas Lab where genuine heritage Lucas parts are still being made by a British team of craftspeople.

Episode 77: David Rooney on working for Jaguar Quality Control

David Rooney worked for Jaguar between 1980 and 2004 in Quality Development at a pivotal time for the company. In this magical interview, David takes us behind the scenes at Jaguar and shares his memories and stories from working alongside the greats like Sir John Egan, Jim Randle, Norman Dewis, Peter Taylor and David Fielden. In this trip behind the factory doors at Browns Lane, David speaks with Wayne Scott to share his memories on how he arrived at Jaguar after a career at Lucas and Triumph and how he worked on improvements to the XJ6 series 3, XJ40 and XJ-S. He also explained the differences that arrived with the dawning of the Ford era and also the improvements that Sir John Egan brought to the ailing company to turn it around during the 1980s. Today, David is a volunteer at the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust and also at one time, owned two Jaguars previously supplied to Bob Knight. Episode 72: Meet Jo Ramirez - F1 legend, Jaguar fan.

This week we have true F1 royalty joining us. Jo Ramirez began his career working for some great car brands including, Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini. In motorsport he worked alongside Dan Gurney, Ken Tyrell, Emerson Fittipaldi and had his career kick-started by none other than Juan Manuel Fangio.Jo was coordinator of the McLaren Formula One team, including during the infamous Prost–Senna rivalry of the late-1980s. But also worked with David Coulthar, Mike Häkkinen and of course, Ron Dennis. Today, Jo Ramirez has retired to enjoy his love of Jaguars and is an honorary member of the JEC in Andalucia.
