Smooshed Cars and Smacked Snow Banks
This week, Sam and Robbie unknowningly found themselves crossing paths at the same place in Montana for a winter driving program with Infiniti and Bridgestone. They got to try out the latest Blizzak winter tires on the QX60 and other Infiniti models through a variety of maneuvers. Sam also drove the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum and Nicole drove the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L.Ford has had to stop production and shipments of F-150 Lightnings due to a battery fire at the factory. Bait and Switch
It was Chicago Auto Show week and we've got a bunch of news and interviews. But first, in the garage, Sam has been driving the 2023 Kia Telluride SX-Prestige X-Pro V6 AWD, the refreshed and more off-roady version of Kia's big crossover. Nicole had Honda's version of the same idea with the new Pilot Trailsport. In Chicago we saw Toyota take the wraps off an even larger 3-row crossover, the Grand Highlander with more third-row and cargo room and an option Hybrid Max powertrain, but no rugged off-road version, yet. Volkswagen refreshed its popular Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport with more grille, bigger screens and a new turbo 4-cylinder. Subaru is evolving its CrossTrek with a new but incrementally changed look. This week we have special guest Kelly Funkhouser, director of automotive technology at Consumer Reports to explain how they conducted their recent test of advanced driver assist systems. All-Season High-Voltage Corvette
The car Robbie was supposed to drive this week was damaged before it got to his driveway so we just have Nicole in the Mazda3 Turbo AWD and Sam with the Ram 1500 Rebel V8. Surviving CES
Sam survived his return to CES after three years away, but before discussing what was there, he gives his thoughts on the Jeep Wagoneer L with the new Hurricane 510 engine. Making Resolutions
As we pull the plug on 2022, it's an all-electric week in the garage as the temperatures drop. Robbie has the new Lucid Air Touring, while Nicole has some more followup on the Mercedes-Benz EQB. This week, Nicole is still in Europe with her husband so the boys are at it again. Over the past week we've had an assortment of travel and gigs but we're back in the saddle with fresh material. Now that the embargo has lifted, Robbie can finally share his thoughts on driving the VW ID Buzz, while Nicole had the new Kia Sportage. Before heading out to San Francisco, Sam had the Volvo C40 Recharge and while in the Bay area he drove a Chevrolet Bolt EV.In the news, we've seen a bunch of new upcoming products in the leadup to the return of the much diminished Detroit Auto Show. The week before the show, Jeep started to reveal its 2024 EVs including the all-new Recon and Wagoneer S. Chevrolet also took the wraps off the Equinox EV. The big only big reveal at the show itself was the reworked 2024 Ford Mustang that's coming next summer. The king of designing devices with fewer buttons, Jonny Ive said that cars should have more buttons and less touch. Don't Fake Fires
As summer winds down, we've got lots of cool stuff that we've been driving this week. Nicole had the plug-in hybrid version of the Hyundai Tucson Limited with all-wheel-drive. Roberto has the Chevrolet Bolt EUV and Sam had the Toyota GR86 Premium and the Lucid Air Grand Touring.There are lots of EV related stories in the news this week starting with using the Ford F-150 Lightning as a generator after a heavy storm whipped through. In another part of the country, a doctor powered a vasectomy with a Rivian R1T. Buick wants to go all electric this decade and it wants dealers that will be fully supportive.
