About this episode

The discussion centers on effective goal setting strategies tailored for auto dealerships, emphasizing the importance of clear, measurable objectives that align with the dealership's mission. Key advice includes starting with short-term goals, defining specific targets like sales numbers or review ratings, and maintaining a long-term vision for growth. Hey everyone, welcome to the Monday Minute from Podium, a quick reset to help you lead
better, think clearer and build your dealership with intention.
Before we get started this week, Jeff, you've got to go back, read the newsletter, subscribe
if you haven't because it lays out the full theme of this week's exercises.
Okay, the Monday Minute is the mindset, the newsletter is the roadmap.
Jeff, what we got this week?
Well, this is a big one.
It's going to be really hard to cram this into one week.
And we have multiple podcasts that go over this.
So go back into the history of the YouTube channel and search goals because goal setting
is just crucially important in any business, in any life, but definitely in our business
because there's so many metrics and so many goals.
So let's talk about a few.
So the point of it is to turn intention into execution, right?
They keep your team focused on what really matters.
And there's a few key things to remember.
The goals should support your mission, not distract you from it, right?
That's the point of a goal is that you don't get spun off by every shiny object.
You start with a short-term goal, something that you want to prove in the next six months.
And then there's more monthly sales goals, right?
Better online reviews, smoother financing process, stronger follow-up.
That's a really important one.
How are you getting back to these leads?
Whatever you choose, make it very specific and measurable.
So my goal isn't just like sell more cars, but it's like, yeah, I want to sell 10 more units
this month and not, I want better reviews.
I want to get a 5, a 4.8 review rating.
No, no, I specifically want a 4.8 star rating and here's how I'm going to get there, right?
Clarity creates accountability.
So if you're just throwing stuff at your team and saying,
hey, we need more sales or we need better reviews, nobody knows.
So define what your long-term vision is and where do you want this
dealership to be in three to five years?
We're going to talk more, you know, that's more of a long-term setup.
So maybe more inventory and other locations, stronger digital sales process,
better work-life balance for yourself and your team, whatever it is, write it down,
then outline the specific steps it takes to get there.
And then Luke, your favorite part, you want to track it.
And I just track it.
And that's where that's where I come in here.
I want you to make sure that in your office, you have a huge whiteboard.
Okay. I love whiteboards.
I love spreadsheets.
Just a dashboard type of guy.
I want it in my face all the time.
And if you've got multiple screens, you can put your dashboard up there and work off of it.
But I want everybody to know review the process monthly.
What are we getting better at?
What's working?
What's not working?
And how do we need to adjust our processes to achieve the goals we have?
Don't adjust the goals.
That's ridiculous.
Adjust the process.
Make it better.
Did you have strong dealerships?
They don't drift.
They set these goals and they hit them.
They adjust the process, refine the process, train on the process until they get there.
So set clear goals, track them honestly, adjust processes when need them.
And that's how you build momentum.
Jeff, let's build this together.
