The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a very fancy car that is made to be super comfortable and luxurious. It's like a status symbol for very wealthy people, and it has lots of special features that make it stand out from regular cars.
When a car is idling, it should run smoothly. If it shakes or vibrates a lot, that's called rough idle vibration, and it usually means something isn't working right in the engine.
When you change gears in a car, it should feel smooth and quick. If it feels slow or clunky, that's called waddley shifting, and it might mean there's a problem with the transmission.
Tesla is a company that makes electric cars. They are famous for their high-tech features and long driving ranges.

Volvo EX60
The Volvo EX60 is a new electric car from Volvo that can travel up to 400 miles on a single charge. It's part of Volvo's effort to create more electric vehicles.
An electric vehicle, or EV, is a type of car that runs on electricity instead of gasoline. This makes them better for the environment because they produce no tailpipe emissions.
The Ford Model T is one of the first cars that many people could actually afford, and it changed how cars were made and sold. It was built a long time ago, and now it's considered a classic, which means some people think it might be worth a lot of money in the future.
Parts Authority is a company that sells car parts. They help both car repair shops and people who love working on their own cars by providing the parts they need.
A fuel injected vehicle is a car that uses a system to spray fuel into the engine, which helps it run better and more efficiently than older cars that use carburetors.
Injector cleaner is a special liquid you can add to your gas tank to help clean the parts that spray fuel into your engine. It makes sure the fuel sprays evenly for better performance.
Carbon black is a black powder that can build up in engines when fuel and oil are burned. Too much of it can cause problems and reduce how well the engine works.
TDI means Turbocharged Direct Injection, which is a type of diesel engine that is efficient and powerful. Like GDI engines, they can have problems with carbon buildup.
Carbon buildup is when carbon from the fuel collects in the engine parts, which can cause the engine to run poorly. It's important to clean it out to keep the engine running smoothly.
A gasoline direct injected motor is a type of engine that sprays fuel directly into the part where it burns. This helps the engine run better and use less fuel, but it can also cause some problems like carbon buildup.
Land Rover is a brand that makes luxury SUVs, which are designed for both comfort and off-road driving. They are known for being tough and capable in rough terrains.
Scion was a brand of cars made by Toyota that targeted younger buyers with affordable and customizable options. The brand is no longer active, but many of its cars are still around.
The check engine light is a warning light on your dashboard that tells you something might be wrong with your car's engine. It can mean anything from a loose gas cap to a more serious issue.
Alignment is when the angles of your car's wheels are adjusted so they point straight and are parallel to each other. This helps your car drive better and makes the tires last longer.
Brake pads are parts of your car's braking system that help stop the car. If they wear out, they can make a grinding noise when you brake, which is a sign they need to be replaced.
'Metal to metal' means that the brake pads are worn out completely, and the metal parts are rubbing against each other. This can damage the brakes and make it very dangerous to drive.
LIVE
Welcome back Wrench Nation.
We got a fresh show for you right here in the year of 2026.
Raise your bump in hand if you're one of those mechanical maniacs that have been with us
since inception Wrench Nation, oh yeah!
I miss two mechanical maniacs if you're new to our show Wrench Nation baby, come on your way.
We're bringing you some great automotive tips to start the year and bag it out.
I see some of you got a speaker that the little woofer is just hanging out by the carpet on
the floorboard.
You still hear it but it's hanging.
Wrench Nation always always an honor to spend it with you right here from the
renowned East Valley Institute of Technology.
It is a new year, January 2026.
All you smelly people, you're going to the gym.
I see you.
I see you.
Included myself.
It's been a while.
I actually was down for the count.
I was out.
Bring it.
How many of you brought in the new year sick man?
Like flu and stuff.
Hey, now you make it fireworks and all that but you're sick.
I didn't do fireworks but I wasn't too sick.
I was.
I talked to a few people.
It's like.
Anyway, I'm glad to be back.
We had a replay.
I don't like doing replays for you guys beginning of the year.
It's like Wrench Nation.
They always play in the replays.
He's an illustrious graduate.
He's award winning.
Thank you.
Thank you so much, man.
How are you feeling?
You know, always glad to be here.
Been here three years.
Started in 2023.
If you can remember, but every time I hear those trumpets, man.
All right.
So before we get into show topic, I'm really trying to help people with their vehicular
situations.
I'm trying to get them to love their mechanic a little bit better.
More better in 26.
Hug a mechanic.
How would you describe what you would say from the heart to any student right now on
campus at the East Valley Institute of Technology, who may be struggling?
What is your words of wisdom?
One sentence.
Don't give me a whole spiel because we got a lot to cover on the show.
Never give up.
I like it.
It sounds like like it sounds cheesy, but that's what it is.
So many of us get in that position and we're comfortable.
It's nice and warm in the studio and but man, if we were stuck on the mountaintop and we
broke an ankle, would you say?
Never give up.
You have to.
Yeah.
Right.
So if you are the equivalent stuck on a mountain top with a broke ankle and maybe you're taking
some classes.
I don't care if you're a basket weaving, automotive technician, cosmetology, fire sciences.
This campus is shock full of greatness, skill trades and all kinds of stuff.
You may be a little frazzled right now.
It's okay.
So parents, you need to support that all day long.
Sometimes your kids tell you stuff and you just witnessed a Tasmanian devil.
They don't really mean it.
Don't fall into it.
Just nod your head and say, don't worry and reassure them, motivate them.
Every day is a new day.
Thank you for that, Eden.
Absolutely.
Because that does definitely kick it kick it up notches.
We got a bunch of news to cover some really interesting news, but I do want to tell you
folks, maybe you hopped in your car, you're in traffic, maybe you're on your way.
You've got a little bit of a little bit of a road trip to the West side.
You stuck in some central Phoenix traffic or my podcast family.
If you're hanging down in Miami and thank you, by the way, I hard podcast Spotify.
I do hear from you folks from time to time, wrench nation dot TV.
If you want a show topic and I do listen and read all your emails and a lot of your topics
that you mentioned to me, come come to fruition.
This show topic, I thought we'd start the year off, man.
Some of you driving and your car kind of feels off.
Just don't feel right.
It's like a rock in your shoe.
You ever get a pebble in your shoe?
You can still walk, but you got a little pebble, pebble.
That's your walk all weird.
And worse yet, you pull your.
Have you have you pulled that sneaker off and you'd kind of people look at you.
Oh, he's got a pebble.
And then you shake your shoe.
Nothing comes out.
Nothing comes out.
It's a phantom pebble.
You could you put that shoe back on and you're like, oh, I have no pebbles.
Then you walk in it and messes with you.
It goes away for the first 10 steps.
Then it comes back and then you're like, man, let me let me pull this shoe off.
And then you do that whole pebble be gone thing.
You shake it and still no pebble.
You put your shoe back on and you walk and messes with your hardcore
because then it's really gone.
And then you walk about, I don't know, 200 steps and bam, there it is.
Then you're like, man, do I got a corn?
I don't know about what the heck.
And then you pull off your shoe the last time you're ready to walk naked
with that foot because you got a pebble.
Those pebbles are messed up.
And what do you find?
You got a little knot in your sock.
How many of you had to not in the sock?
It's the same thing with your car.
It's something's off.
Something's not right.
But the check engine lights not coming on.
No lights.
It's off.
So I want to cover if your car feels a little different, but that dashboard
is just not giving you a warning about anything.
And it makes you think you're crazy.
These modern vehicles won't always warn you about something's wrong.
There could be something lurking.
Man, I don't like that word lurking.
How many got roof rats in your house?
They are lurking.
I have a couple in my house right now.
Every year we're in central Phoenix.
My house is spotless, but a lot of you have a spotless house
and you live in with critters, whether it's roof rats or pack rats.
It's not always the house.
It's the internal of the house that could be a huge mess.
My wife needs therapy.
Currently we got an exterminator.
Kids are freaking out, but that is the word lurking.
Those pack rats and roof rats are lurking.
That engine seems to be running okay according to the dashboard,
but something's lurking.
Or let's get to some other symptoms.
I'm going to cover it, people.
Hesitation, stumble or sluggish acceleration.
You got that.
You got that.
You even went to get the code pulled.
Nothing.
Nothing's happening.
Cars running as design.
Rough idle vibration.
Or the steering feels different.
You don't have to be electronic.
It could be mechanical.
It could be like hydraulic or something like that steering.
You turn and it just feels floaty.
Like it just doesn't feel like you're in control.
Or your brakes feel different.
Or the transmission shifts waddley.
Or here you go.
You went on your first date.
And then you got a strange smell all of a sudden.
And your date's looking at you and you're like,
holy cow, I got an emergency backup air freshener.
There's something stinky in my cab.
What about if we got lights, but no codes are being pulled?
Yeah, that's what we're talking about.
So what is happening?
Why does your car feel off?
But no warning lights.
Some of you experienced that.
We in the past have talked about warning lights
and blah, blah, bleep, bleep, all this stuff.
But how many of you are struggling?
It just feels off.
It feels like that little rock, that pebble in my foot.
Brand of sneakers and it don't feel right.
So anyway, those are some of the things we're going to cover.
We will definitely get into the check engine lights
and all that kind of stuff that eventually will come on.
But some of those symptoms and what to do about it.
And always I'm going to bundle this at the end of the show
about new year, new promise, new relationship,
hug a mechanic, people.
How do you deal with your mechanic
when you have a problem like this for success?
For happiness.
For peace of mind.
Peace of mind.
I think the people had enough of me talking.
Let's break the ice.
I do have some news and then also want to mention
what EVET students are doing at Barrett Jackson,
which is happening this weekend.
Give me some funny, funny.
Let's hear your weird auto.
This is your first story of the year.
This better be good.
I'm going to talk to corporate if it's not good.
Go ahead and give us what's happening
in the weird automotive news.
So it's less funny, but more interesting actually
with Volvo coming out with a brand new font
that has improved drivability, readability,
reduce visual noise and help drivers stay focused.
You're talking about font.
Fonts.
F-O-M-T.
What I see in the dashboard?
Yes.
Like the lettering.
The lettering, the numbers,
the whole nine yards that you'll see in the dashboard.
We can look at that much better.
Volvo has introduced a new font called Sentom,
a custom typeface developed by a designer
by the name of Dalton Mag
to improve readability, reduce visual noise
and help drivers stay focused.
Stay focused.
That's what we need.
Designed for specifically in-car displays and interfaces,
the font aims to make information more easier
to read at a glance as screens replace physical buttons
and modern vehicles.
That's what we need.
We don't realize it, but there's a lot
of research and development that goes
into those fonts that you're looking at.
The new font will debut in an upcoming electric Volvo EX60.
Supports over 800 languages.
Man, there's a lot of work in those fonts.
That is absolutely present.
Could you imagine you buy Bentley?
Well, see, Bentley is traditional.
A lot of their fonts, I mean, I don't have this proof
in front of me, but I would imagine Bentley
has not changed the tradition of their fonts.
Volvo, they probably got a couple, at least 1,000 emails.
We love your car, but we can't see exactly right.
I don't know, there's a reason
for everything I would imagine.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
The one thing that I'm interested to see in the future
is because we're moving into EVs
and how that's going to replace the manual dashboards
with screens, will the fonts debate
and choose between cars and car brands?
For example, you've been in a Honda before.
Will we see a Honda font in a BMW?
Because maybe it's easier for that person to read,
or maybe a Kia.
You know, I think that's all going to be,
here's my thought.
That's what I'm interested in.
That's a really good question.
So what you're saying essentially is,
can you see the font?
If we're going away at the digital,
can it become universal and give the driver
their provided experience?
It's all about making money.
You get in a Honda, they want to feel
like they're in a Lincoln.
They're going to trademark everything.
Will you have the freedom of fonts in your vehicle?
I say we create a whole.
Could we protest that?
Probably.
I would be really, really excited to entertain that.
I say we get downtown in Detroit
and then we raise our signs.
We want font freedom.
Freedom of the font.
But Volvo, there's a reason why they're doing that.
So that was interesting.
They're keeping it fresh.
But a universal font or change it,
like I'm sure you can do that in Tesla.
I don't own a Tesla.
I know Tesla folks can do all kinds of stuff
and edit and do all kinds of goofiness.
Little note about the EX60 though.
It's also set up to offer 400 miles of range with the EV.
That's debatable.
Which it's Volvo's longest range electric vehicle to date.
Well, that's respectable.
They're all after Tesla.
Although Tesla is really working hard
to maintain its hold in China.
We reported on that.
But I'd like to tell you guys something
totally off topic here.
We are just about 10 years here, 88.7, the pulse.
One thing that hasn't changed for us is,
well, the pulse of our spirit of doing this show here.
And I always like to announce to you,
any events would love your support out at Barrett Jackson.
In fact, you can get on a wrench nation.tv.
We won't have Craig on this here.
The show just creeped up and I was out for a week
and it just really delayed everything.
But if you wanna watch or excuse me,
well, I think you can both watch and listen
on wrenchnation.tv.
We've interviewed Craig Jackson or Barrett Jackson.
Love Barrett Jackson.
Barrett Jackson does amazing things.
But one thing that they continue year after year after year
is supporting the STEM Fest and Career Fair.
It's showcasing students right here from EVET
in automotive, engineering, other technical fields
that's on campus and they're offering a hands on learning.
Muth, little exhibit.
So, I need you, you can get on to EVET,
you can get on to Barrett Jackson.
Saturday, you're gonna check out some beautiful cars.
Saturday is an amazing day, by the way, at the auction.
Lots, if you've not been, I'll be out there with my daughter.
And ticket discounts are available.
You can get on to EVET.
Support the students, support the future.
Right now there is an uptick.
We are seeing it.
A lot of you are interested in doing plumbing, welding.
You worried about AI.
Ha!
AI, gonna take some of your jobs away.
It's fact, we don't know when, officially.
It's fact.
Skill trades.
Will AI take away a plumber doing a plumbing job?
Negative.
Nope, not gonna happen.
Could you imagine that, Rob?
Maybe I don't know.
It might diagnose something, but it ain't fixin' it.
Well, if Elon Musk was here,
he's like, optimist will walk up to your house
and fix it all.
Maybe, but that ain't happenin' soon.
Optimist will be your house.
Plumber's not goin' away with AI.
Welders, welders.
I talked to a student that we mentored at the garage.
God, nine years ago.
Oh, wow.
We thought, okay, he's gonna become a mechanic.
He was with us for about a year and a half.
Good kid.
I'm gonna shout out to Tyler Torres.
He's out there.
Guess what Tyler's doin' today?
What's he doin'?
He is welding.
Wow.
For who?
Intel.
I ran into, you know, we're social media friendly
and, you know, we stay in touch a little softly
like social media.
But I ran up, ran into him at a party
that we had recently during the holidays.
Gave that kid a big hug.
He's doin' well.
He's doin' really well, growin' a family.
Skilled trades are where it's at.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Fight me.
Fight me on it.
I bring the fight in you.
AI's gonna take a lot of those jobs.
Now, I'll put on a little tongue and cheek.
I'll get a little cute with you.
AI.
Blue collar is the new white collar.
Yeah, I'd agree with that one.
Go ahead and argue.
All my lawyers, doctors, all you people,
argue, fight me on it.
One would argue that the original white collar
is just going away.
Maybe.
AI, we gotta, you know, whatever,
whatever AI, everybody's AI.
Whole place is gonna start lookin' like Wally.
You got attacked at midnight and you were dreamin' about AI.
If you go into college, I respect that.
I respect it, Boku.
Yep.
You need to think about three, four years down the road.
Is the career you're studying for,
is that gonna be around?
Some would say, Frankie, being ridiculous
is gonna be 10, 20 years.
I don't know.
I don't have a crystal ball.
But is it even worth it if you are saying
you're only gonna get 10 to 20 years out of it?
Some to explore.
That's the other thing you need to worry about too.
Something to explore.
If you think it is going to take a little bit of time.
Well, that's a lot of, there's a lot of categories out there.
Absolutely.
You know, and I will bring this year,
2026, I plan on bringing in the authorities on AI.
Cause we're not.
We're not authorities.
I'd love to have that conversation.
I'm gonna bring in special guests
from all over the country to speak on it.
It's my mission this year to try to gain a little clarity.
And I'll be honest with you, it's a conversation
I'm personally having with my college-bound daughter.
What do you do?
Like if you're not going to trade school
and you decide to go to college,
you gotta have that conversation now.
Like, is that job going to be around?
The AI conversation is something that just,
it always gets me.
I'm always like, okay, I need to learn more about this.
So having these authorities on this year
is going to be very off.
We're gonna book some guests on it,
but again, East Valley Institute of Technology,
you're gonna be at a Bear Jackson this Saturday.
I want you to head out there.
You know, the event website,
there's discounts on the tickets and stuff
and support the students, support the staff.
We need more supporting of each other.
Stop watching all that national, international news.
It's making you depressed, starting a new year off.
Worry about your neighbor, for sure.
I do have some news.
We're gonna hold off from taking a break.
We're gonna hold off here, just take our time.
There is some news.
I thought this was funny, then just, you know what?
Waymo's paying people about $20, $25 to close the doors
on their robo taxis.
Huh?
Your people riding Waymo's don't know how to close doors.
All right, now what raises the question is,
is it per close?
Waymo's door issues are stemming from passengers,
a bunch of lazy passengers who are leaving doors at jar
or worse yet, your seatbelt is getting caught
in between the door.
If Waymo with a door open will not move.
It's stuck.
Some of you see, you've seen the nightly news.
Waymo stops traffic in downtown LA.
Some of it is attributed to, uh...
Hold on, I gotta look this up now.
Exiting, exiting Waymo.
Waymo can't speak to you.
They need that. They need AI.
Kind of like Siri.
I think maybe Waymo will send you a message, I think.
I don't even know. I've not driven a Waymo.
I've not been in a Waymo.
But apparently you people are lazy.
You're not closing the dang doors.
That car stays there. He's stuck.
Somebody just took his brain out
because it's a safety issue.
The safety protocols are important.
It leaves these vehicles stranded.
The blocked traffic become immobile.
And it needs external human intervention.
Autonomous needs our help.
Robots, we love you, but you need our help
because our fellow human being can't close a dang door.
Now, Waymo was already contracted through an app
called Honk.
I was gonna, yeah.
And that Honk app is basically the rescue app.
Where they need a tow truck.
It's a towing app.
Right. And so the solution for now, short term,
is to pay about 20 to 24 bucks for these tow truck drivers
to essentially have an easy gig.
Get up to closing doors.
Close the door.
Now, son.
I got some tow truck drivers listening down
whether they're local or whether they're doing.
They're salivating at the mouth for this.
No, they're not.
They're complaining because it's not easy money.
They got to get through traffic.
Sometimes Waymo doesn't really give an exact pin drop.
They're complaining about it,
but they'll pay 20 to 24 dollars.
Schmuck forgot his door.
Let's close the door.
20, 25 bucks.
Here you go.
Bam.
Self closing doors is the long term solution.
If you figured, man, they got to do something about that.
Now I'm just curious about how this started.
No door self closes on any car.
I don't think well, both Tesla,
cause Tesla listen, Tesla's autonomous.
Right.
I listen, Elon is serious.
You, you've got FSD in your Tesla.
You then put it on the network to have that your vehicle.
That's sense.
Can you believe it people?
How many of you would fathom?
How often do you use your vehicle?
Let's talk about this.
We have in the past.
How often do you use it percentage wise?
What is the percentage out of a hundred percent?
Do you use your vehicle daily?
What percentage of the day?
I'd say about maybe 30 to 40%.
Not even 30 to 40% to the math.
Are you driving six, seven hours?
Let's take 24 hours, 30%.
Let's call it six hours.
You're not driving six hours.
No.
How many hours do you drive a day?
Maybe about one or two.
30 minutes, 30 minutes.
Maybe 51 hour.
You got 23 hours remaining.
Right.
Where that vehicle is sitting.
Think about it per day.
It's definitely not 40 to 60.
If you could take your autonomous FSD Tesla,
get it up in the network.
And you don't mind you put it on the network
where people can use it as a taxi.
Would you do that?
Make money while you sleep?
I would.
That is what's coming.
That's what's Elon.
He's brilliant.
So what's happening?
But for now, they're working on these self-closing doors.
It's a big problem for Waymo.
You know, probably be hydraulic.
They're working with a company called Zeekr, which
is supposed to come up with a solution for that.
So just remember, if you're in a Waymo, pay attention.
It's like leaving a restaurant.
You got a table.
You just ate.
I get it.
You like the waiters will clean up.
The waiter will clean up.
Man, but if you've got a real piggy table,
like clean some of it up.
And I'm not.
I always clean it up and stack the plates everything.
I'm not talking about fine dining.
Some of you are like, well, Frank, I'm paying $100 person
in this place.
Be the pig you want to be.
I'm just saying.
But no, what I'm saying is we as humanity
need to close our doors.
Oh, yeah.
Anyway, how many of you go into a restaurant and you blow up
the toilet?
You don't tell anybody.
I'm being real with you.
How many do that?
Do you go into?
Hey, I'm really sorry.
I had I had a problem.
You just go up to the waiter thinking about the next person,
especially my goodness, a unisex.
If you got one toilet in the whole joint,
yeah, small little restaurant.
How many you consider it?
You blew it up.
You quietly walk away.
It's like, just feel guilty.
Put your head down.
Or will you tell somebody, sir, that toilet is absolutely done.
Do you bring your own duct tape to a restaurant?
Hey, look, I don't know what happened, but it's done for me.
And you just walk out the door.
I'm just saying to me, it's the same as humanity.
To me, there's no difference than leaving a Waymo door open.
Because guess what?
You got an ambulance.
Somebody is critical.
The intersection is blocked.
And here's a Waymo because you left your door open
and you didn't didn't mention that dirty toilet to me.
OK, I'm sorry.
Am I being right?
It's the same thing, I think.
I mean, I'm sure there are some contrasts.
But all right, we're going to Jesus.
I don't have actually I have one more one more story.
I thought this because this is 26 people.
There's a lot of changes going on.
Honda is coming out with a new icon.
You know the Honda Honda symbol.
Yeah, it's been around a long time.
Little H with a little circle thingy around it.
They get rid of the circle thingy.
And it's going to be like an H where the upper part of the H
is a little wider, like it's hugging out to you.
That's the philosophy behind this new Honda logo.
Interesting. You're going to see dealerships make the change.
They're going to logo and rebrand.
When's this happening?
Honda.
Sometime this year, Honda is getting a new minimalistic,
minimalistic, minimalistic.
All they did was take away the circle.
Well, there's everything is minimalistic.
Maybe they charge you more money for that.
I wonder what Hyundai is going to do next.
It'll be introduced worldwide from 2027.
Answer your question.
Yeah.
On everything from cars to dealerships.
Wow.
They're going to revamp everything.
The restyled H marks.
Dops a wider squatter.
So it's like if you if you if you have a heavy lifting weight,
you get down on your you kind of bend your back down,
you know, you have your little little wide,
but then you wide out your arms up top.
That's the best way.
It looks like a heavy lift in a gym kind of thing.
That's what that age looks like.
A wider squatter stands with vertical arms,
tilting out like two outstretched hands.
That's what Honda Motor Company was quoted.
Everyone's making changes.
They got to stay fresh.
How many of you don't want to see the Honda logo change?
I kind of like it.
But change is inevitable.
They're going to roll out that plan this month.
They announced the January 13th.
What is today? The 14th 14th is fresh news on Wrench nation.
We keep it fresh.
They'll be updating that logo.
So you're going to start to see that in 27.
So if you have an old school Honda logo,
maybe it fell off your car, fell off the trunk or something.
Save it.
It'll be worse than money.
Yeah, I was going to say, maybe some of these older cars
are going to be 100 years from now, put it in that Model T
bucket to be worth some money.
All right, we're going to take a break.
I do want to come back at you.
We are going to cover why your car feels off.
It's just like you waking up and the doctor said everything's fine,

Right on. Welcome back.
Wrench nation dot TV.
I know a lot of you dip in and out of the live show
or perhaps you listen to the radio show up in the California High Desert.
We love you people.
We've been out there for a while.
Wrench nation dot TV.
You can you can sort of give your sentiment.
You can leave us a comment there.
Or on the socials.
We try to stay active on Instagram and Facebook, Wrench Nation.
And of course, to all of our podcast people, we appreciate you.
I do have a special shout out and I mean shout out, man.
This is Joey Pizza Pizza.
That's his name, people. Joey Pizza.
We want to thank him.
He's one of our vital parts drivers with O'Reilly's.
We do use O'Reilly's from time to time.
I wanted to thank you, Joey, for always showing up and getting it done.
Your consistency, hustle, you just go the full steps on it.
And we love what you do.
I want you to know something, people.
These parts drivers are unsung heroes for all all manufacturers, distributors,
dealerships, you name it.
And the industry has a tendency to treat these people like stepchildren.
They are an integral part of our operation.
They get us our parts on time and so on without it.
You behind the wheel will yell at us because your car is not ready.
So we appreciate you, Joey, and he's a big fan of Wrench Nation.
And he gets upset when I do replay.
So Joey, we're live today, buddy.
So thank you, Joey.
All right. So we're talking about your car feels off.
You got no warnings.
I equate it to like going to the doctor and maybe even you went to the mechanics
that we can't find anything wrong is like going to a doctor
and they don't see anything with an x-ray, but you know something is off.
I do want to address one of the common symptoms.
Aiden is a hesitation, kind of a little stumble.
You start it up in the morning, go to take off.
And it's got a little bit of a before it gets up and goes.
It's not smooth.
I've had that in some cars. Yeah.
Yeah. And, you know, we're not talking about older, carbureted vehicles
because that's a whole nother subject.
But we're on the fuel injected vehicle.
Mostly you drive fuel injector vehicles with the various,
whether it's a multi-port GDI, a tune port or what have you.
But you may feel that.
So I want you to pay attention to a couple of things
and some of you have called the shop and said,
did you put some intake cleaner for the fuel injectors?
Maybe. Maybe. OK.
If you have ruled out that there isn't a fuel trim issue
regarding the fuel side of what could be a hesitation
and there isn't anything wrong with fuel management,
then go ahead and try an intake cleaner.
A lot of great shops offer that.
They'll offer an injector cleaner.
Remember, those injectors are like shower heads.
If they do not atomize, in other words,
if your shower head was clogged with calcium,
it won't be distributing that nice pattern.
Same with injectors.
Carbon black broccoli is the enemy.
It's a byproduct of gas usage and engine oil.
Over time, it builds up.
If you drive a European vehicle, you know about carbon.
The carbon has to be addressed.
It's a byproduct. It's inevitable.
If you drive a GDI,
those TDI systems,
they're prone to get injection buildup with carbon.
So you need a cleaning.
It's like a teeth cleaning.
That could take care of the stumble.
Now, what does that mean?
Well, there's a process.
You pay X amount of dollars for that.
There isn't necessarily something broken,
but it's how the engine is breathing
and distributing fuel that affects the little scumble.
So research it.
The internet's a wonderful place.
Some of what you find could be legit, but more importantly,
reach out to us or reach out to your local rock star mechanic.
If they cannot find a fault,
they're going to recommend this sort of teeth cleaning
for fuel injectors won't always give a check engine like nor
do you want to avoid the carbon buildup
on those more problematic engines?
Let's talk about it.
You think an A and Y problematic for years,
it wasn't really that problematic.
Carbon buildup for a multi port injected motor
was not a real big problem.
Or as big a problem.
And that's because you had you had fuel injectors as that
intake valve and exhaust, mainly the intake valve opening
would clean out the carbon on that on that valve.
On these newer vehicles,
the gasoline direct injected motors, you want to find out if your vehicle
is a GDI, you don't have that.
You don't have the injector cleaning out the carbon on the intake valve.
Or valves in general, because that injector is placed right down in the piston.
So those valves are doing its thing.
They're building up a lot quicker, Audi BMW.
There's a lot.
There are a lot of platforms.
And when those valves get that oily black
broccoli and a carbon laden, it almost looks like burnt brownies.
That can cause not a check engine light all the times,
but it can cause that little bit of hesitation.
So what do you do?
Well, you let a you let a seasoned automotive technician who's certified.
He's not some guy that's just, you know,
washing tires or whatever.
I mean, he's he's he's in the business of what we call drivability
because you don't want to guess with parts that a lot of you will do that.
Well, let's try a tune up.
No, you got to test for a tune up.
So assuming that they've tested and looked at data,
you may be perfectly fine
with this cleaning to decarbon the motor.
It's like an oven cleaning.
Think about it gets caked up over time.
So again, if you've got a gasoline direct injected motor
and I'll tell you what I'm going to do for you,
let's look at a list of manufacturers because you're driving what you're driving
right now, GDI injected manufacturers.
Vehicles, let's do that.
There's a ton of them, a ton of them,
a ton of them. Here we go.
There's over 36 Acura,
Infiniti, Land Rover,
Scion, just get on, type in your vehicle
and see if if it qualifies for that.
So that could be that hesitation,
slumble, slumble or a little sluggish acceleration.
If your vehicle does have a fuel filter, I'd recommend.
You're not always going to get a check engine light.
Now, when the when the system runs lean,
in other words, if that fuel filter is clogged,
like you're going to know it, you'll have extended cranks.
It'll be hard starting because that fuel is trying to push through a restricted.
It's like a kink straw, trying to blow or suck through a straw that's kinked.
The fuel filter, a lot of these vehicles today don't have them.
They're in tank, they're returned with systems, right?
For the most part, they don't have a serviceable fuel filter.
But if your vehicle has one, then
you're going to you're going to replace that guy before you get a check engine light.
So that should help.
That's some of the basics.
There are some other things, but that's very common.
If you have a little delay when pressing the gas or it just kind of feels lazy,
it's worse when it's cold, like especially if you're hidden up on the freeway,
merging through traffic when it's cold and you got that little.
Hey, where you at? Come on, get me going.
That could be that carbon buildup.
You want to pay attention to that.
And if you don't have a mechanic, by the way, reach out to me, wrenchnation.tv.
Our main facilities up there, Desert Carcure Cave Creek.
However, networked with great community minded shops all over the country.
I want to make sure you're taken care of.
So if you have that, I want to get into steering.
Some of you driving a vehicle, you just had new tires, right?
Treated yourself over the holidays.
You got new tires, even big shots.
You did it right. You got an alignment.
Look at you go.
You are set. And then here's January two weeks later,
mid month, you just feel like the steering is a little floaty.
Something's going on.
Floating, just meaning like it has some play.
Like the steering, if you turn it just a little bit,
like less than a, I don't know, quarter of an inch.
It's like it has a little play.
Doesn't respond to how you're steering it.
It just kind of has a little play.
Floating doesn't really respond.
It gets worse when you are at higher speeds.
You just feel like, man, I don't have that control.
Will that trigger a check engine like not always now?
These electronic steering systems.
Which basically stemmed out of the European vehicles, right?
And so, you know, European vehicles, typically,
that technology comes out first, not always, but typically.
And domestic Asians usually fall suit, right?
So if you see it in Mercedes BMW, they're usually out first.
I may get some pushback on this.
You may argue with me, but for the most part,
it's in that European arena.
It's going to slowly trickle in that technology.
And we're seeing a lot more electronic steering.
In other words, it's not hydraulic.
That could potentially cause a check engine light
if there's a problem with the electronic controls, right?
Computer receives command, send.
That's an input.
The output is do what I told you to do
based upon this condition.
I'm driving 40 miles an hour.
I'm steering at a degree angle.
Let's just say whatever, five degrees, three degrees.
Think of a clock.
I'm at nine o'clock and three o'clock on that wheel street.
You with me, right?
That's a nice centered emblem.
Your left hand, your right hand, nine o'clock, three o'clock.
I turn slightly to, let's say, ten o'clock.
That is measured, sends an input.
Temperatures related, altitude.
The everything is related to the condition of the vehicle
to give you the optimum steer.
That's electronic.
It's complex and sorry, people, expensive to fix.
It is what it is.
But if you have a hydraulic system, your Mazda has hydraulic.
What year is yours?
Two thousand.
Twenty eleven.
Yeah, it shouldn't be electronic.
You have a little Mazda three.
Yeah, be hydraulic.
Right. Your best case scenario.
I'm going to give you the details on sloppy steering
or just feels different or floaty.
Is that your system could be low?
Will that cause a light?
No. Will it cause drips on the ground?
Yes, you're going to see that.
Always remember, if you you don't have to be mechanic for this.
But be careful.
Have somebody with you.
You can go solo.
We've got a couple of big shots.
Go solo.
But I always like safety, safety, safety.
Some of you see a YouTube video and you think it's easy.
You can pop the hood and look for leaks.
When you buy a vehicle, you need to know where all your systems are at.
Power string, fluid system break, fluid system.
Right. You need to know transmission fluid,
although some of those dipsticks are gone now.
You have to have a computer to check it.
But you should understand where your fluids are at.
You'll save a day because one morning the steering will feel will feel off.
You know, no lights coming on. What's going on?
I just got tires as we just used an example.
Let me check my power steering fluid.
Well, where the heck is my power steering fluid?
So I think this is a good idea.
Well, YouTube's there to help.
But here's what you do with your first date with a mechanic.
Are you ready? Are you people ready?
You want to test drive?
I want to see how this experience with this new mechanic
automotive technicians going to be.
Guess what I'm going to do?
I'm going to go down, introduce myself, find out a time
that I can bring my car back and have them give me a walk around.
How about that?
Can I tell the demeanor of somebody
that's willing to help me for very little money?
Now, I don't want to say free.
They may charge you for that.
I can't just assume everybody's doing that for free,
but it should be a small fee.
You'll get to know the mechanic.
You'll get to know their operation.
And guess what? More importantly, you get to know your car.
So if you have steering system issues, you have a reference point.
A lot of you don't do it. You buy the car, life's busy.
Don't get a walk around. I don't care if you're a ballerina.
If you're a ballerina, you can one nail can get dirty.
What do you think, if you're a ballerina,
should you know where your power steering fluid is?
I absolutely agree with that.
Some of you people like that's what those construction workers know, man.
You don't have to be 300 pound construction worker.
All my ladies out there, it's important.
You want to date a mechanic,
meaning you want to find a good mechanic in your neighborhood.
You went online, you read reviews. All right, looks good.
Test driving with that.
See their demeanor.
Are they belittling you because you want to know a little bit about your car?
Would that be a rough start if somebody says, well, we don't do that.
We we're the professionals.
You don't need to do nothing. Just pay us.
I wouldn't be going to that mechanic.
How I mean, come on, I'm trying to teach you how to date a mechanic the right way.
You know, long distance, you want to marry a good mechanic.
You come into town, you need three things.
A good lawyer, a good doctor, a good mechanic.
It's not wrong.
All right. So that's that's on the string.
Many of you, let's move on as we moving right along here.
I hope you can relate. I'm trying to give you ideas.
I know I'm being silly about it, but go in.
And say, hey, I want to just know, get acquainted.
How do I do my tire pressure?
How all those little things that you don't need to go in all the time.
Just do some basic checks.
The demeanor and attitude of a professional automotive technician.
Now, don't just roll up in the garage because everyone's got time
management's real in a garage, create an appointment.
That's right. But you can still come in, shake a hand, get a vibe, smell the place,
get scheduled for it.
There may be a small fee because a lot of you will watch it on YouTube
and some of you are more hands on.
Will you agree with that?
Like visually, you saw it, but then you pop your hood and maybe things are different.
Some of you think, oh, you're overthinking.
I just watch YouTube video to tell me where it's at.
Again, this is twofold.
Want to do the walk around, find out where stuff's at and to get to know,
is this a mechanic I want to date or marry?
Is someone responsible for taking care of me in my car?
Think about it.
That's a good way to test drive a mechanic.
Go on a date. How many go on real dates?
Do you take them to the pizza joint first?
What do you go to the fancy place first?
Some of you will test drive that first date.
A lot of my guy, well, not recently.
I've been married for a long time, but when I was younger, it was the thing.
It was like, Josephine heard that and she said, where do we take me?
Where do we take our first date?
I don't know if you guys still do that.
I don't have to play video games.
We dated a lot and it would be like, OK, did we go here?
No, that's too fancy.
We got to make sure things are right. We planned it.
Do you still do that?
Like every now and then we'll play now and then we'll go play video games.
Oh, that's look, mutual video gaming.
This is bringing the world. Absolutely.
There's nothing wrong with that.
But I'm saying like, I don't know.
I'm probably it's a different generation.
But we didn't put we if I was dating you for the first time,
we weren't getting fancy first date.
Oh, absolutely.
Sorry. Absolutely.
That was well, that's like you whip it out an old game.
I'm not putting her on the good game yet. Right.
That's if you're cooperating with I'm gonna bring
I'm gonna bring her on some newer parts.
I'm gonna save the classic ones for later.
All right, let's move on.
Breaks, your breaks, your breaks.
No brake light coming on.
All of a sudden, your brakes just feel different.
Difference, a very vague word.
How about I say?
It'll stop, but it may it just doesn't take a second.
Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, a second's a long time when you're breaking.
Maybe less than this.
Like it just something's not right.
And you've already checked the carpet.
Think about it.
Break pads next place I'm going.
Well, maybe, maybe we're going basic here.
A lot of you check your carpet
because we've you've come in the group.
We had to write up break inspection,
you know, one or two paragraphs of symptoms.
Best we could not serious, but just doesn't feel right.
What was the weirdest break?
And there was there was a fee for that.
We charge a fee to check every inspect everything.
Right.
But we ended up waiving the fee.
Why? Because the carpet, the mat, the corner underneath
the brake pedal pad was earing up.
And the carpet started coming up.
So it's getting in the way.
We're like, yes, we rescued a cat from a tree.
No charge.
Replace the mat.
That's a win for us because we gave you good news.
You know, mechanics don't always want to give you good news.
Those good mechanics.
They're just going to tell you as it is.
Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but always what it is.
You asked me about what's the worst goofiness of breaks
that I've had in the garage.
Well, many of my automotive peers,
my colleagues have experienced the same.
We get a phone call. You want to hear it?
Yes.
I need to bring my Chevy in.
My brakes, all of a sudden, they go to the floor.
I heard a bang and I saw something flying in the rear view
mirror.
Oh, no.
I need to find that phone call.
We record our phone calls.
I've been recording calls.
Oh, I'd love to hear that one.
I've been recording legally, by the way, right, for 20 years.
I may come out with an e-book.
Some of the weirdest, you know, protect people.
I'm not trying to shame people, but the topics that we get.
So again, I need to bring my Chevy in.
Can I bring it in tomorrow morning?
My brakes felt funny, heard a noise,
and I looked at the rear view mirror
and I saw something flying.
So what do we say to that?
Sure, we'll get you taken care of.
By the way, were you on the freeway?
Yeah, I was headed on the freeway.
OK, who was behind you?
Well, not anybody directly.
You know, probably 8, 9, 10 car lengths.
That thing you saw in the rear view mirror,
did it land in anybody else's vehicle?
We're trying to find out.
So we get in.
You know what that is?
Your vehicle went from brake, squeak, once in a while.
Has that happened to you?
Well, it's not serious.
It only does it on Mondays.
Little squeak, squeak, and then it goes away.
When a noise goes away, you feel at ease.
It's like that dang pack rat in my house, or roof rat.
Haven't heard from him in seven days.
I'm like, OK, we got rid of him.
No, you want to hear that, at least
until you have confirmation.
The exterminator calls my wife.
We got these Bluetooth wireless.
Big shout out to all you exterminators, man.
You keep in my marriage happy.
The exterminator text messages.
We caught another one.
He's got the Bluetooth traps.
So he gets a signal.
Yeah, it's pretty cool stuff.
I'm sorry, Bluetooth.
Bluetooth.
Yeah, it's a it's a sense of.
I'm sorry.
I'm telling you, it sends a signal.
He gets an alert.
He's got thousands of these in the valley
all over the valley against these alerts.
He says, we'll be out tomorrow to rescue that.
That rat.
By the way, don't use glue traps is what he told me.
He's got one.
This is Frank's house.
My point is I'm thinking just like you break noise.
It only happened once and went away.
Nothing's wrong.
That rat was gone for eight days.
We're we're going to have a little happy, happy family.
No rat party.
No, get a Bluetooth thing.
Same with your breaks.
The minute you hear a break, squeak.
Assuming you just didn't get breaks.
The different scenario.
Let's say you've had an ad.
You have ended.
You have not had breaks for three, four, five years.
Take the noise serious.
OK, take the noise because that caller went from squeak
to grind.
Now, if your breaks are grinding, yeah, do not pass.
Go.
No, do not collect $200.
You know, I'm going to give you like eight.
Go back to jail cards.
If your breaks are grinding people, they're serious.
This one, let me finish, went from squeak to consistent
squeak to grind to something flew out and I saw it in my.
The brake pad came on lodged from the break out.
I've seen this.
So now it's beyond metal to metal.
It is dangerous.
And please tell me he wasn't driving into the shop.
He had a that does not happen overnight.
He had been grinding for some time now.
Some would say, well, that's negligent.
There should be a jail like usually spend two nights
in jail for bad breaks.
No, you people, you get busy.
Life happens.
That guy was busy.
I'll get to it.
I'll get to it.
How many do that?
I'll get to it.
I'll get to it.
I meant to brush my teeth this morning.
I'll get to it.
And then a week goes.
I meant to brush my teeth this morning.
And then you got cavities or your dentist has to walk out.
You ever get that to Dennis?
When you go to the dentist, like you in there for basic stuff
and they all they walk out unannounced.
We'll be right back.
And they walk out and they bring like eight other people in
and they want to look at your mouth.
You know, you jacked up.
Yeah, same thing with a mechanic.
If you got the whole garage, in fact, they called the garage
down the street.
Hey, Louis, you need to come to our place.
We got something to show you.
Your whole crew just flocked around that car.
Didn't you got eight different shops?
You got 32 mechanics looking at this.
Oh, Jesus.
That's a water cooler moment for us.
But anyway, that, that don't let you breaks.
I hope that answers your question.
I already did that.
And one of my cars, I will never do that again.
No, every oil service and stop going to the drive-thru
loot shops.
I'm going to get hate on that, whatever.
You need a certified technician to look at your car
every time you go in for an oil change.
Today's cars drop off.
Sorry.
I know five minute loot jobs are out there.
Go for it.
Do your thing.
You want to save money?
Drop the car off, whether you're at the dealer
or whether you're at wherever.
Plan your service.
Don't rush them.
Wait for that inspection.
There's a property to save you money.
I'm telling you because you'll catch this stuff.
So that's on the brakes.
So to take the brakes seriously, if that break just
doesn't feel right.
Transmission shifting just kind of feels erratic.
Like it's late.
Like you RPMs you re and then it just kind of like a downshift.
Like a late shift.
Yeah.
Late.
Like it's late.
You're like, speak to me, transmission.
You're late.
Speak to me.
I don't want to have to pay that bill.
Speak to me.
I want AI.
I want AI parts.
That would be so cool.
Could you imagine if they labeled AI?
No, they say AI is not sent in.
Like it has no emotion.
But imagine if transmissions were AI.
They send a message to the customer.
We'd be looking at one of those make-a-is.
No, listen to me.
Hear me out.
You dash.
You could speak to your dash.
You'd be like, you call your transmission Timmy.
Timmy, right?
Timmy transmission.
How are you feeling down there?
AI comes back on the dash.
Well, I'm feeling good.
You're working me a little hard.
And by the way, in a few months, I'm
going to need a service.
No response.
I'm telling you, we just came up with a business model.
Freddie Fuel Injector.
Like literally, you just talked to the dash.
Hey, Freddie Fuel Injector.
You dirty up there?
They come up with that.
The only time you need to be worried
is when they don't reply back.
Betty Breakpad, speak to me.
How are we doing down here?
I heard you squeaking.
Well, it's OK.
I had a bad meatballs.
You're good for now.
Will AI parts speak to us?
That would be great.
How come we can't do this?
But see, here's the thing.
Your AI parts will ghost you, and you
won't know what's actually wrong if it's the AI computer
or if it's the part.
When your AI parts ghost you, that's
whenever you need to really be worried when they start
ghosting you like the Tinder date.
Right now, AI will lie to you.
Betty Breakpad, I said, I'm doing fine.
Keep driving, fool.
I'm worn out, but you keep going.
Anyway, I'm being silly with it, but you never know, man.
Will parts talk to the consumer behind the wheel?
Man, that's a show.
I'm sure there's a guest we could get from.
God, I would love something like that we could do.
All right, last limit, a couple of strange smells.
We got about three, three, four minutes.
I used earlier the fact that the strange smells always
come when you have your mother-in-law.
Your first date.
Your sister you haven't seen in a while.
Just the stinkiness comes about and you're like,
man, this, and they look at you like,
yeah, right, this is how your car stinks.
You're like, no, I'm telling you,
my car always smells good.
See, if you don't do it right now,
you need to carry emergency air fresheners.
A lot of you guys, gals.
Just have it at a gas station, get the little trees.
No, buy 10 at a time, cheap on Amazon.
Get them in there, because you never know,
surprise visitor.
And you don't know what the car's gonna do.
Now, what causes them smells?
If you developed an oil leak and it's on your exhaust,
that could smell.
If you developed a slight misfire,
where you're getting a little too much fuel in the exhaust
that's gonna cause a rotten egg odor,
stinky from the exhaust, that's sulfur, right?
You guys ever smell that?
Like, sometimes you're driving on the freeway
and you're going uphill and you really gun it,
because you got to, you gotta keep going.
And you smell that sulfur.
That's excess, that's a lot of fuel being burnt in that cat.
Get some air freshener, then nobody knows nothing.
So the weird smells could be that,
you're burning oil on the exhaust,
maybe there's a fuel problem.
Again, no lights.
Could just be an AC problem.
Take it into your mechanic, don't wait on that.
A lot of you just need to understand,
nobody knows your car better than you.
If it's off, doesn't feel right, don't wait for lights.
Because I've seen it in the garage,
you end up costing yourself because you delayed.
And then we had unnecessary repairs
to parts that were good because you delayed.

Thank you very much, Aiden.
I'm glad you're doing well so far this year.
Thanks for having me.
We're gonna come back at you, not next week.
I got a speaking engagement out in California
that I'll be back.
We got a great show planned.
We got folks from Concourse in the foothills.
Peter Volley's gonna come on that car show
here in the next few weeks.
That's gonna be a lot of fun.
As I tell you every week, be safe, hug each other,
and never forget to hug a mechanic.
-♪ Oh, please, it's us we always are made to talk about you.
-♪ Go with someone just like you, everything we do the same.
-♪ Oh, is that true?
-♪ Girl, I love you, Mary Jane.
-♪ Won't we look like you for without you?
-♪ So put your love into this, girl, and don't you feel no shit?
-♪ Just let this be.
-♪ Girl, I love you, Mary Jane.
-♪ And she loved me, all about you.
-♪ Oh, we don't need no co-game,
-♪ Oh, we need this good sense to rule our brains.
-♪ Only one thing sets us free,
-♪ Oh, we's our fate to talk about you.
-♪ Go with someone just like you, everything we do the same.
-♪ Oh, is that true?
-♪ Girl, I need you, Mary Jane.
-♪ What would I do for without you?
-♪ So put your love into this, girl, and don't you feel no shit?
-♪ Just let this be.
-♪ Girl, I love you, Mary Jane.
-♪ She needs me, all about you.
