they have to have a direct personal experience with it before their opinions change.
Sometimes it'll never like even if they do, it will never change.
Things like that.
And so that's unfortunate that there's that opposition
that potentially could like spill over to like the workers
just doing their jobs like paving stuff and gandalism and stuff like that.
That's that is unfortunate and immature. Yeah.
Yeah. So I'm sorry to hear that. Yeah.
Yeah. So anyway, neighborhood politics.
Dude. Yeah.
Your boys on the news.
Ian, have you ever been on television before?
I think so.
Wait, was Chris Hansen in the room?
There was this guy.
Yes, I think so.
It's been a long time, but yes. OK. Yeah.
I don't remember what for now. OK.
Maybe the film festival.
Yes, that was one time there was.
Yeah, I was on for the film festival really briefly once and then.
I'm I'm building your IMDB page in the back or something.
What's that?
I think like in high school for track or something.
OK, OK. I'm building your IMDB page right now.
OK, good. Yeah.
I think I was on TV maybe twice for the USA Pro cycling tour,
like, you know, as like crazed fan dancing in a whole costume.
Oh, right. Yeah. That makes sense.
When I ran alongside a cyclist, yeah. Yeah.
That's now in Getty Images when I was in the best shape of my life.
I know I love that so much. That's a good picture.
Yeah. Now I look at it and I just feel bad about my physical form.
Here's the thing about riding 120 miles on a bicycle in one day.
I like being in the shape that it takes to do that.
But fuck, it's boring.
Yeah, I can only imagine.
I've never done I've never done that long.
That sounds terrible.
Yeah, it's I mean, you know, you find your limit for hobbies, right?
Uh-huh. You're right.
Mine was like about half that time.
That's a third. Yeah.
So anyway, but yeah.
So OK. So Ian, getting press.
Yeah. Yes.
I should have like just walked behind you in an apex adjacent t-shirt.
Yeah, that's another thing.
Have you told them that you have an automotive and influential
automotive podcast at the town hall meetings at the city?
At your neighborhood.
I've been keeping I've been trying to keep my car creds
like in my back pocket a little bit, right?
To be like if I if I get accused of being anti-car,
right, I just want to be like, well,
the reason I wasn't at the neighborhood
pancake breakfast this this year was because I was at a race.
Right. Exactly. You know, like, yeah.
I have a car podcast.
You know, like I think I think and actually, honestly,
they're putting in speed bumps, but they're putting in those narrow ones.
OK. You know, which ones I'm talking about
where they're like the split speed tables where there's
like the the valley in the middle.
No, the fire trucks can just like go over top of them.
Oh, no. Huh.
Those are a real problem.
I was going to say those have to be a nightmare for you.
OK. So I'm going to have to like really figure out
how I'm going to navigate around those streets in my car.
And you're still advocating for this.
I'm still advocating for it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
I know what you know what's going to really discourage traffic
is if there is a high centered Volkswagen on top of one of those things,
then fucking nobody's getting through. Right.
And I'll slow shit right now. Exactly.
I'm just going to follow the chips of clear coach around
and then see when it goes from clear coat to clear coat mixed with oil
from your oil. Yeah.
Yeah. My wife and I recently did some like street forensics
similar to that where we were driving out of our neighborhood
and happened across a big Ford F-150 pickup truck
was crashed into a tree at an intersection in our neighborhood.
Oh, my God. Right.
Yeah. Like our speed limit is 25 miles an hour, of course, in the neighborhood.
And it's curvy streets, right?
Because it's newer. Right.
And and so like, you know, we drove by, we don't know what happened,
but we were taking a walk like a night or two after that and walked by.
And we could see from like on the pavement,
we think that the truck had a blowout on the tire
because there was all of a sudden this very thin
like clean scraped part of the pavement that got wider.
And there was like a skidding tire adjacent to it.
This like clean line kind of like started getting wider.
I think as they were like kind of turning
and the vehicle was like, you know, kind of drifting on the rim on the rim.
Yeah. Into like inevitably into a tree
that was maybe a little bit bigger than, I don't know, 18 inches around.
Like, you know, like across. Yeah.
Like a pretty ruin your day tree.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Like 25 year old tree, you know.
Yeah. In the easement.
So, yeah, but like trying to figure out because like it's like kind of like
after this little uphill kind of kicker part and we were like, oh, I bet
somebody was like they were speeding and somebody like started to pull out
and they over corrected.
But then we saw that like super thin, like clean piece of pavement.
And it's like, oh, no, something else happened, you know.
And so like we talked about before, my wife with the crime shows like right kicked into gear.
You know, she had a forensics kit.
She took my DNA.
I don't know what's going on.
She debated a store sample and I don't understand.
Yeah. So, you know, but anyway, I I'm very, very proud of your
activism and very proud of you being on the news and speaking up for something
that hit so close to home. And yeah, so that's thank you.
Yeah, for sure, dude.
Well done, Ian. Well done.
Yeah. You can just stand in the intersection and just wave parts of cars
from the vehicles that have wrecked in that street.
Good. I mean, I really could.
Like I have I have thrown out more pieces of like under tray.
Yeah. In my neighborhood.
Right. And none of them belonging to me.
I just want to find out.
Yes, yes, these are not yours.
No, when I when I leave pieces of my car in a neighborhood, I do it for real.
I leave metal like bolts.
You do. Yeah.
That my wife and I go on a walk and find none of this plastic under tray.
That's amateur hour.
Shit. Exactly. Thank you.
If you haven't broken loose red loctite, then what are you even doing?
Right. Yeah.
I do also really like how you're keeping your car creds in your pocket
because you're just waiting for them to bring a hot dog to a fucking bazooka fight.
I really am. I really am.
I do the same thing when when I when I meet new people, like I never I try.
I don't ever lead with veteran, especially like if I if I if I feel like our
politics might be different.
Mm hmm. Yep.
Because it's all that's nice to surprise people with sometimes.
Exactly.
Yeah, right. Right.
You made an assumption you were wrong.
Yes.
What does that say about you?
Right.
You played right into this trap that I I just have with me all the time.
Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. No, that's that is a good point.
Yeah.
What else we're talking about today?
We've talked about me too much.
Well, we can't talk about you enough, Ian, but
we do have I think we have a listener my eyes slash listener garage update.
I did a little bit of carding and we got your buddy's BMW
that we want to talk about.
And then you have an album of the week.
So you pick from the people to hear about you carding.
Oh, yeah.
So I took my son-in-law carding at the Centennial Outdoor Track.
We did two heats.
We managed to just squeeze this in as I was kind of shuttling my wife
and her daughter off to like massage appointments for her daughter's birthday.
And I was like, you know what else is in Centennial?
See, outdoor car track, right?
That's that's that's thinking.
Yeah, it's using the old noggin.
See, like this is an Ian move, right?
Yeah, the spidey sense of like, oh, this is adjacent to a cart track.
I can make this happen.
Have I rescheduled work meetings to accommodate the opening hours
of nearby go cart tracks?
Not that I would admit to my boss, but yes, I have.
Exactly. Yes.
And so, you know, like when you do stuff like that,
you don't want to be like the dad at the carnival that's like playing
the games to like in bad faith to like win the prize for the kid, right?
But that's obviously having fun playing the games, you know?
But like if something lines up where I could legitimately squeeze
a couple of cart sessions in and not disrupt anything, right?
Yeah, let's do it, right?
Yeah. You know?
So, yeah, so took my son-in-law carding for the for like his first
real carding experience.
He jumped up nine seconds from his first heat to a second.
That's a big jump, right?
Yep. The glory days of big jumps, right?
Yeah, we do, we do.
But yeah, he had a great time.
We're going to do it some more.
And and yeah, my wife's younger daughter would love to join in as well
because she she talked about like wanting to figure out something to do
as far as autocross goes and stuff like that.
So she I have a feeling she will be a menace behind what we.
Yes, I love. Yes, because I, you know,
like we see those people that are like they are good at driving.
But then we see those people that are like, oh, no, they're doing well
just because they like they're scaring everyone else.
Yeah, I have a feeling that might be her. Yeah, just all aggression.
Yeah. Yeah.
But like it might just be normal for them, you know?
So yeah, so I'm excited to see how that kind of develops within the within the family.
So nice. Yeah, you know, yeah.
But I love that you're pushing this onto
unsuspecting members of your family.
You haven't I noticed you haven't invited anyone to come see, you know,
our six of a lemon's race where we're all like on our backs in the rain,
trying to figure out what the fuck is going on with the clutch.
Oh, they're all well aware of lemon's disasters
and they have firmly said, we do not want to be part of that.
Fair enough.
You know, my wife did go to the track for the first one
because she definitely wanted to get eyes on and like,
like that's a huge thing for her.
Like she wants the visuals of like what this looks like the logistics.
Like, you know, like, right, that kind of stuff, you know,
versus just kind of like seeing videos or hearing about it.
Did she get to see any like the party vibe?
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
She definitely did. Yeah.
She she knows all about like the potluck and the karaoke
and like how like the story of like how
and this is something that I was told.
So if it's not accurate, please somebody correct me.
But like how High Plains and kind of Glen was not that hot on lemons
initially, and I think lemons like really up their safety game
that like kind of rose to Glen and High Plains as standards.
And and so now like he's he's hosting the karaoke night.
And like he you can tell he genuinely enjoys having those people there.
Like that kind of stuff. Yeah, it's the best.
Yeah, that that guy is amazing.
And the the mutual love between him
and the lemons people is very apparent.
Yeah. And again, like they they say it every year, too.
Like it's the the proof is this is the only place they do
a 24 hour race. Yes.
And this is and there are tracks that they race at that have lights.
Right. Right. Exactly.
Like real big facilities and they don't they don't do 24 hour races there.
Right. So correct something.
Right. Yeah. No.
So like, yeah.
So my wife is super.
She loves this kind of like connective
tissue and backstory for like this kind of stuff.
Like she really she she really soaks that kind of stuff up.
Loves hearing about it.
So she's definitely up to speed on kind of the whole package
of lemon stuff for sure. You know.
Yeah. So but yeah.
So bringing it further into the family, man.
You know, cool. Yeah.
Love it. Yeah.
All right.
Can I show you my buddy Graham's BMW project?
You 100 percent can.
And the fact that you use I saw pictures of this beforehand
to fully disclose to the four listeners,
I saw pictures of this beforehand.
You you can't call this a project.
Jesus Christ, it's amazing.
It's really cool.
Yeah. So my my friend Graham,
I know him through like a work thing that I do.
But I saw him last year
and he was finishing this this project,
this long running project up of this BMW Bavaria,
which I hadn't.
I wasn't really familiar with the Bavaria,
but it was kind of like the bigger car
back in like the 70s and early 80s,
like kind of in the era of like the 2002.
So it was kind of like the
if the 2002 is kind of the equivalent of like the three series,
like the various. Oh, OK.
Equivalent of like the five series, right?
Yeah.
And I think if you go BMW, new six,
I think that's the other one that it was OK called.
Yeah. The third one right there.
Oh, there we go. Yeah. The three.
OK. Yeah.
Gotcha. Thank you.
Mm hmm.
So he had been working on this car for like,
I think he's had it for like 20 years
and has been in various states of of of project.
And driving and like not driving and all this other stuff.
But he finished it recently
and went took it out for a photo shoot.
And it is amazing looking.
I love what he's done with it.
I love the rally lights.
I need to look up.
I complimented him on the rally lights.
And he said they are functionally useless,
but look cool.
And my response was as all the best things are.
Yes, exactly. Exactly.
Right. Yeah.
It looks fantastic.
I love the dark grill.
I love the rally lights.
The interior looks amazing.
Wow, this thing is clean and straight, man.
Yeah, it's beautiful.
Oh, wow. OK.
I'm going to go back to the index here
so we can hop to some interior shots.
Holy crap, look at that.
That's amazing.
It looks beautiful.
Like the perforated leather seats.
Yeah. I mean, besides like the stretch of the leather
from a well driven like car,
it looks like it rolled off the factory line.
It looks it looks amazing.
Yeah. That is amazing.
Holy cow, Graham.
I do really like this era of interior.
Yeah, like I think they look really cool.
That's gorgeous. Yeah.
Oh, wow. Yeah.
Oh, look, is that the shift pattern?
It's the shift pattern on the dashboard.
Yeah, they put that on the dashboard.
That's kind of cool, right?
Wow. I want to like I want to zoom in on that and see.
Zoom in on the enhances.
Yeah, I don't know if I can.
Yeah, that's oh, wow.
OK, this is cool.
So you see like some splits on the dashboard.
So like more patina than I initially thought.
Yeah, the surround where the keys rub
near the ignition cylinder.
I love that. OK, this is.
Yeah, it's like the clock on the passenger side.
Yeah, it's like it's well worn.
It's been used, but it's drivable.
It's like a driver and it's but it's like a really nice driver.
Yeah, which is I think what you want.
Absolutely. Tape. Tape deck.
Yes. Yes. Super cool.
Oh, that's fantastic.
So yeah, Graham, thank you for sharing that with me.
Oh, wow. Yeah, I really love this beautiful car.
And yeah, before and I remember you mentioning the Bavaria,
but I hadn't I had never I was never hip to that.
But like it has like some old like 2002,
some old six series kind of lineage like lines.
You can see where like those like later six series and stuff like got their look.
His wheel choices on point.
No, his wheels are notes, right?
Like the multi spoke.
I don't know the I'm sure BMW folks have have a name for those wheels.
But man, they look good.
They kind of look like Alpina wheels.
Well, I was going to say, I think they looked like HRE wheels.
Yeah, because they have kind of a similar logo to to to Alpina.
OK. Oh, yeah. Right.
Oh, OK.
Got you. And they were like a period upgrade from back then.
I think maybe they may and they may be Alpina wheels.
I don't know. Wow.
I'll have to ask. I'll ask him.
Yeah, like the shape of the turn signal
like is like very Buick Riviera.
Like it is a little bit.
Yeah, I love that.
Like leaning forward and like kind of a rhombus.
Yeah. Yeah. Thank you, geometry.
It's a very cool car.
It is. Yeah, Graham, amazing work.
Yeah, if he'd be up for coming on to talk about it,
I would love to to talk to him about it.
I bet he would be. Oh, yeah.
That would be amazing. Yes. OK.
Yeah. And then it looks like Johnny has my eyes.
Yes, our buddy Johnny.
So champion circle track racer, our dear friend Johnny,
who's been on the show, a longtime friend from way back.
So Johnny races circle track in Wisconsin
and is an incredible driver.
And as race cars, things happen.
He recently, unfortunately, had a bend in his primary car.
Somebody kind of overshot a turn
and he was kind of pushed into the wall.
And so his primary car is messed up.
And let me see if I have a picture of that or which one this one is.
Oh, no, I don't want to upload to Graham's website.
So it's a random circle track car.
Yeah. So here's Johnny's circle track car.
Yeah. Unfortunately.
And here's how Johnny fixed the problem
by buying a second circle track.
Yeah. This is what happens, right?
He said, when plan A is not working, then there's plan B.
Yes. So amazing.
Another Acura RSX, obviously ready to, you know,
like Caged and everything already.
But dude, so awesome, right?
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
And the circle track stuff is so fascinating
because they don't know which direction they're going to run
when they show up for the race.
Like so they can't prep like wider tires on one side.
Like, yeah, remember that from when we were we had.
Yeah, they do like the message geometries and stuff like that.
Yeah. Right.
So yeah, you have to be ready to run either way, you know,
which I think is fascinating. Yeah. Right.
So yeah, Johnny, good luck.
Please keep us posted. Right. Yes.
Yeah. Godspeed. Circle track king.
Right.
Dave, I think we should.
A wrap it up.
Yes. Yes, we should wrap it up real quickly.
A true car show.
Yeah, again, yeah, traffic, infrastructure, car show.
OK, give me an album of the week, homie.
Well, first of all, did you enjoy Lindstrom?
Did you get a chance to listen to it?
I have not had a chance to listen to it,
but it is saved in my Apple Music for sure.
OK. Yes.
This next one, we're going to go a modern jazz music.
This is an album from 2023.
OK. It's a band called Get the Blessing.
Oh, I've never heard of them.
That is it is it features the guitarist from Portasad.
Oh, OK. So this is his like.
Jazz group that he plays with now.
OK. And it's a little bit out there.
A little bit more experimental, but it's a really cool,
really cool group.
I have another album of theirs, but I just got this one on vinyl.
This one just showed up at the house.
So I'm very excited about it.
Oh, this one's called Pallet.
OK, Get the Blessing.
P-A-L-L-E-T-T, not like Pallet in your mouth, but like Pallet.
Yes. Yeah. OK.
Yeah. So it's a UK based jazz band.
They're really cool.
The other album of theirs that I have is Lope and Antelope.
OK. But yeah, I'm I'm really enjoying this one, too.
Oh, right on. OK.
It looks like they have a live recording on Bandcamp as well.
Oh, I haven't checked that out yet.
Dude, Bandcamp can be a gem for that kind of stuff.
If you like live recordings, especially stuff like Fortet,
he's got a bunch of great live stuff up there.
But this looks really cool. OK.
Yeah, it's very, very cool.
It's really interesting.
It's a four piece there.
Yeah, it's a little like kind of more experimental
jazz, but it's a little bit rockier.
OK. In most jazz.
So it's good.
Nice, man. OK. Pallet.
Get Get the Blessing album.
Pallet links in the YouTube description Bandcamp.
They have an official site.
I'll put it in there.
And then, yeah, Apple Music and Spotify, for sure.
Yeah, nice, dude. I like this picture.
This is like this tells me this header image tells me what I'm getting into.
Like I'm getting into some funky avant-garde shit.
Yes. Yeah. Exactly.
OK. OK.
Yeah. Whenever you start like whenever you start a rap song
with like and drop motherfucker in the first three words, I'm here for it.
Whenever you give me a header image that looks like that,
I'm here for it, right?
You're letting me know what I'm ordering.
It does. It's going to do what it says in the box.
Absolutely. Yeah. OK. OK.
Nice, dude. All right.
Yeah. Um, what should people do?
Oh, yeah, they should absolutely
write City Hall and tell them that you are correct.
Yeah. Uh-huh. Yep.
You can call us.
Leave us a voicemail or text us 720-515-1391.
Um, get your pictures and get your poop in a group.
As our dear buddy Peter says, send us your pictures for show us your cars.
Twenty twenty five.
We're going to do a year in show annual tradition that we are.
We've actually done twice.
So for all of the things that we've said, we're going to do more than,
you know, that we wanted to do the series.
We've we have a track record.
So this will be the third.
Yes. It'll be the only thing we do annually three times in a row.
Exactly. Right.
Yeah. So show us your cars.
Email them to apexjason.com.
If you have a couple of images, definitely you can text them 720-515-1391.
Prefer email for this one just because I don't I don't want your images
to get crunched up in all pixel.
I want to see the the beauty or the peeling clear coat of what you send in.
Exactly. OK.
Everybody, thank you.
We love you.
Chrome mobility. Goodbye.

Ian shares his experiences as a neighborhood board member advocating for progressive changes, such as improved bike lanes and traffic calming measures. The conversation touches on community opposition, the importance of incremental change, and Ian's recent appearance on local news to present the pro-side of the argument. The episode blends humor with serious discussions about urban planning and safety.
