A gated manual is a special kind of gearbox where the gear stick moves in a gate shape, making it feel more like driving an old sports car. It’s fun to shift but only has a few gears.
A gated shifter is a gear stick that has little bumps or stops so you can feel when you've moved into the right gear. It makes shifting easier and faster.
Curb weight means how much the car weighs when it's ready to drive, with all its usual stuff inside but no people or extra items. Knowing this helps you understand how fast it can go and how much fuel it might use.
It’s a specific engine from BMW that was used in the M3 car, famous for being very fast and fun to drive.

episodes recorded than the old GM guru at this point yeah yeah I think you do
because if I go back and count like count them it'll be close we've got a
lot now yeah it's crazy to think how many episodes that we've done it's it's
been a lot of fun yeah going back to the car exchange this should be 72 I think
really wow that's awesome yeah no it's it's it's a lot it's a good amount so
we've been here pretty much would say about a year I think we started this
podcast here at garage analog and grit oh my god I'm dripping we started back
at that NGC obviously as the car exchange but at analog and grit we
started last year and the end of November I believe it was when this
place officially opened it's gone by so fast I can't believe it's been been a
whole year yeah yeah this place has been open now for a whole year and
obviously it's still going strong any upcoming events anything that you've
heard I know there's a special invite for this will go live Saturday so for
Saturday night yeah we do have a special invite event for members so if
you're a member here there might still be some spots available to sign up it's
gonna be basically just hang it out in a hangar at Gillespie field some planes
nice cars food and drink and yeah it should be a lot of fun is it like hangars
and watches and exotic cars yeah exactly sounds very much very much that vibe very
bougie yeah yeah very bougie so cool I mean we're gonna we're gonna go out there
and display some some cool cars just to kind of help the vibe yeah I think one
thing analog and grit does really well with the with the group with the
membership is being able to like go out and have access to these events that are
going on outside of you know this area of San Diego right like sometimes I'll
just go on my Instagram and I'll see you know the whole all the guys from the
members just hanging out on a boat you know somewhere in the middle of the
ocean somewhere you know and or or at like some like mansion up in the hills
you know and it'll be it'll be fun I'm sure if people interested in
exotics watches you know planes because there's gonna be some private planes
there what's not to love about the three of those right so cool all right but
today's episode we're gonna talk about the analog and grit marketplace cars for
sale so right now there's a handful of cars you can share since you pretty much
head that department but we'll stick to the top three at least in my opinion the
most exciting of the of the group of cars for sale so that's gonna be a
Mercedes a BMW and an Audi so technically we're covering all three of the
German major brands yeah you could call them the big three just not American
big three right yeah well right would that be fair to say the I would say the
big luxury three yeah yeah right because Volkswagen would be considered like the
Ford of German cars sure sure right but clearly Volkswagen owns Audi yeah right
so I guess you could say that's technically Volkswagen but yeah so go
ahead and tell us what cars are for sale so one that we just got in that's
pretty exciting I think that most enthusiasts will resonate with is a
2012 Audi R8 V10 coupe and it's a gated six-speed manual which makes it really
like the Holy Grail poster car for the Audi R8 I mean the Audi R8 alone just a
V8 model or a spider is is already a spectacular car but to get one and the
one we have is white with red interior red interior car gated six-speed coupe
V10 so it it checks all the boxes in terms of Audi R8 you know the one you
want to the one that everybody wants to get it checks all the boxes do you know
between the V8 and the V10 is the V10 like obviously it's more cylinders so
could it be less reliable so people may be like you know sway away from the more
more powerful version that's a good question it kind of depends like there's
what I've noticed in the community just being kind of an Audi guy for the last
few years is the mechanic it seems like the mechanics who work on the V10s
tend to like them and think that they're pretty like good robust engines but
they're they definitely require more to service but the V8 doesn't
particularly have the best reputation either for the R8 so you know they both
kind of have their issues I would say if you're gonna go big and get an R8 go
with the V10 I mean it's gonna hold its value a little bit better you know so
that would be a reason why maybe you could justify the added cost whether
that be the purchase price or the maintenance it's just one good way to
justify it is it's definitely a more valuable car there's a big price
difference if you comp you know V10s versus V8 R8s so but to answer your
question I would say they kind of both have their issues maybe the V10 might
carry just a little higher maintenance cost because maintenance is more
involved but it's not necessarily a worse engine than the V8 which has its
issues as well yeah because this is an engine derived from Lamborghini right so
it's I believe the same engine in the Gallardo of the time and some people
could be scared of that like it's an exotic engine you know it's not
necessarily an Audi engine you know what I mean but the car is an exotic car
right so why would you want you want something more bespoke feeling in a car
that feels like a supercar you know and to be fair the the V8 in the R8 is
different than Audi's regular 4.2 V8 so you know you could consider it like a
more you know exotic engine too it's not gonna carry the same maintenance cost
as the 4.2 liter V8 from like Audi A8 for instance right so this is you said a
2012 right correct so 2010 is when they started with the V10 coupe so before I
even get into values are you able to share what the asking price is yeah
absolutely we're asking 129,000 for it okay and what is the miles on it it's
at 43,000 miles and we have physical service records going back to 2018 clean
title I would say that 43,000 miles is just the right amount of miles for
somebody who wants to put on more especially with the service history you
don't feel like you're you know we've talked about this on past episodes but
it's kind of there's like a sweet spot mileage that varies by you know each
car in terms of like if you're looking for one that you want to actually drive
and enjoy that you don't just want to have in your garage you know and take
out five days of the year right so I think this is a great one to do that
with you know if you want to do the gumball rally or if you just want to
put some miles on the car I see so gated manual yes right so for those of you
that don't know a gated manual is essentially the transmission that you'd
find on a lot of like vintage Ferraris even Lamborghinis so for an Audi well
it already has a Lamborghini motor right now it has a gated shifter and it has a
styling that is I mean this is a 2012 this the style of this car still looks
super contemporary yes right I mean I love the way that car looks and then
with the rear glass and on the coupe showing you the engine bay like
everything about this car is amazing yes right now I've never driven one I
remember when we did the parade and in Coronado I don't know if he's actually a
member of analog and grit but was a member of GC it was a gentleman who had
one and he was driving it in the parade with us and I remember it was the first
time I knew that they came in a gated manual yeah I was shocked because I was
like an Audi with a gated man that's only an Italian thing you know what I mean
like like what are we doing here but still I was just like wow that's that's
all that just made this car so much more cooler absolutely right so that just
alone is is a is just so cool to have because of the sound it makes right when
it clicks and like it just feels like precision yes so tell me about your
driving experience with the with the R8 so I've driven R8 V10 gated and the
gated shifter feel is different and it feels better like it's it clicks into
each gear the throws feel short and you don't feel like you have to you know I
mean making a quick shift is in your footwork right it's never you're not
gonna quit shift quick by just throwing it into the next gear that's a good
unless it has a long throw right because then that's on the gearbox itself but
you make a really good point it is in your footwork yeah exactly and it makes
it feel like you can effortlessly shift pretty quickly in that car without
having to you know throw it into the next gear it it goes into the next gear
very smooth and deliberately and it makes you feel like you can shift quick
and confidently yeah okay speaking of shifting there there was a recent video
on Hagerty with Jason Camisa's Drag Race where he had the BMW he pretty much
had all the major like I guess you could call technically that it wasn't all
sedan so I can't say that it was the M3 the E63 and the R not the R8 the the A4
the what do you call RS the RS for RS for tripping so he had pretty much all
their you know mainstay like like the cars in their lineup that were the
sports cars like though they'll pretty much holy grail versions so and they all
were V8s right so for the first time all three companies had a V8 right for the
M3 for the the E63 and then for the RS4 so he drag raced them and the reason why
he felt and what he mentioned in the in the drag race was that the the bends
won by the way right and these are by the way all I believe they're all naturally
aspirated yes they are even the Audi was naturally aspirated back then so he was
saying that the reason why the Mercedes one was because it was an automatic right
where the BMW you know was able to get off the the line quick but it's the
shifts the long throws and all that that that delays it right because this is a
time now we're talking what was late 2000s right is the the year that those
cars came out and that's when automatics finally for the first time were
actually faster than manuals absolutely yeah and the Mercedes that was when they
came out with a seven speed and Mercedes has always kind of had I guess
people would describe them as like antiquated kind of transmissions like
they just use kind of conventional torque converter automatics the seven
speed feels like a transmission that Mercedes decided that they really wanted
to step it up more gears previously they had the tiptronic five speed which was
great but not a super fast shifting transmission and the seven speed just
keeps you right in the proper rev range so I could see why it would be faster
than a manual you know in a similar car right so let's segue to the Mercedes
now for sale that here at analog and grit mm-hmm so it's a 2008 E 63 was a W
3211 yeah we would call it a s211 since it's a wagon so the wagon AMG E 63 yes
right so I imagine right same time period 0709 right same time period as
the the the did I say E 63 I meant C 63 in the drag race if I said E 63 my bad
because it was a C class the the M3 and then the RS4 so they were all cars that
competed with one another right in that time period so anyway so this is now a
AMG E 63 wagon wagon so we looked at their production numbers and you didn't
even realize how how rare these are I had no idea insanely rare yeah like
special order rare like something that we got in the US because you know we
don't get wagons usually in the US yeah hence the RS6 Avant and all those cars
that never came here because they know they don't sell here right so they
already knew that that's why we never got them but Mercedes was selling us
these wagons right because we never even got an M5 wagon right yeah that's a
known thing too so we did get a Mercedes wagon and in this case there's one for
sale at AMG marketplace mm-hmm so tell us about it yeah so it's kind of a car
that did two things for Mercedes when they brought the that wagon to the US it
was one the first time that Mercedes had given the US an AMG powered station
wagon so that was a big first it kind of I would argue re kind of reignited the
the station wagon category for enthusiasts because obviously wagons
generally like for family use had died off like in the late 90s so for for
Mercedes to bring back a AMG powered wagon in 2007 was pretty unique and it
kind of maybe reinvigorated you know enthusiasts you know well they wanted to
get wagons again right you know which was something that we hadn't seen for a
while especially for enthusiasts mm-hmm and then the other thing was that I
believe at the time the m156 v8 which is the 6.3 it's actually technically a 6.2
liter AMG motor was the highest horsepower naturally aspirated v8 produced
at the time well so that was a figure that got people's attention and yeah and
then of course like having that with a wagon is just like I mean what's not to
love I think if you talk to most car enthusiasts they'll know about the e63
wagon which is a main reason why I say you know it kind of reinvigorated
enthusiasts passion for wagons yeah I feel like thinking back about wagons you
look at the type of demographic right you would think they're enthusiasts by
default because they simply like a car that is not common right so you have to
be an enthusiast to like a wagon right nowadays nowadays yeah but in Europe in
most places in the world people buy estate cars as they call them in England
because they need practicality right where in the US we've been driving SUVs
for the longest time now right so you're starting to see wagons disappear even in
Europe because people are starting to like gravitate towards SUVs yes right
they're still big lumpy cars they're not like they're smaller and narrow so
that's why you can buy a wagon in Europe and they're better for their small
streets mm-hmm but for the most part a wagon is kind of gradually because we
love wagons too in the US right like you look at all the wagons like the estate
car what's the the the one that was here that with the wood paneling the one that
on those we've got a Caprice wagon that's the work
Caprice wagon yeah like you look at those cars and you think like family
vacation in the 70s right you know so anyway my point is is I feel like wagons
automatically nowadays are you're automatically an enthusiast if you like
a wagon definitely right and then you look at like Doug DeMiro's following on
cars and bids because he's always owned the Mercedes wagon a lot of them are
wagon fans right like that was that's like the one segment I always like I
told twin brothers auto Ed like if you have a wagon sell it on cars and bids
that's like the one category of car I would rather sell on cars and bids than
on bring a trailer because of the following yeah that's a good point so in
this case let's talk about numbers so 153 sold in the US something like that
I'm not like I was doing some research I couldn't find any any data that said
there was more than 170 yeah if you want to get to the nitty like down to the
nitty gritty of it like maybe there were some that just weren't recorded but
these were special order right so the E 63 AMG the actual car came like in a
sedan version right so the wagon came with the third row rear-facing third
row that's probably like the most iconic and like memorable feature of the
Mercedes wagons as they kept the third row with 500 plus horsepower yeah right
it's pretty funny right having your kids in the back of that third row strapped
in going I don't know how fast on the Autobahn yeah right yeah and just seeing
everything from the rear window just kind of you know blur yeah blur by but
yeah so crazy that they made this car and and I can't like fathom how special
this car is like really when you first started it was the last week when you
told me about it and you started it up and I was just like all right cool it's
just like another you know E 63 AMG you know that V8 sounds good you know it's
not like like an American V8 it's quiet that's the reason why because when it's
stock it's quiet right car it still wants to be a Mercedes but think about it
it should be quiet the people that are buying this car are buying a wagon
because they want to be able to pick up their kids from school they want to grab
groceries and throw them in the back they want to obviously go on trips with
plenty of space for luggage and and you know all types of cargo but at the same
time when they're alone and their wives aren't with them or their husbands aren't
with them and they don't have their kids they could go on a nice road and you
know just drive that thing like it should be driven you know and you can
definitely hear the acoustics but you know if you're gonna I know they're
all it's an automatic right so you're not gonna be able to go through the gears
in it it's quiet when it's idling or if you're just like you know
grant driving it like a granny through traffic but as soon as you step on it
right you know you know you're driving a AMG tuned V8 right so have you driven
this one I have yeah I've driven other E 63's in the past as well from different
generations newer and older so tell me what's it like it's it's crazy because
it doesn't feel it feels fast but you really can't tell the speed because it's
so quiet and comfortable just in terms of interior you don't get a lot of road
noise you don't get a lot of tire noise it feels shockingly civil for a AMG
tuned car with 500 horsepower it can do the wagon duty you can put average
driver in it and they can take it to the grocery store and run errands and they
would never know it has 500 horsepower right or you know you can put it in
sport mode or you can hit the flappy paddles and have a little bit of fun
with it if that's what you desire and I think that's what's so cool about it is
like it does both in such a perfect way like it's such a good grocery getter and
it's also such a good performance car at the same time it handles well it
accelerates quickly it makes all the right noises but you still there's
probably a grocery bag hook in the in the back you know what I mean so it it
does both seamlessly yeah and that's that's how I would describe like the
essence of the driving experience it's the ultimate sleeper you know you really
is you pull up next to someone in a E 63 wagon and as soon as they see that it's
a wagon they're gonna assume that they're gonna assume it's not an AMG right and
to find out we have a 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8 in that thing like
regardless if you if you burn them off the line or not you're you're gonna win
no matter what right 507 horsepower yeah I mean granted if you pull up next to a
modern C8 or something but regardless this is a car that is super usable but
it has all the driving dynamics that you'd want right now it's probably heavy
and a little cumbersome of a car right I don't know what the curb weight is but
it's gonna be up there since it's a wagon right it's a it's a big car but I
think that's a good trade-off for for practicality depending on your use case
for it absolutely I mean it's still yeah it's definitely heavier it's not a C
class but it still feels like eager enough to enjoy like as a weekend car
right all right let's move on to the next car which is the BMW so tell us
which BMW we have for sale here at Analog & Grid Marketplace well before we
get into that what was the price on the Mercedes the E63 we're asking 35 for
gotcha okay all right so what's the BMW the BMW we have currently is a 2000
BMW Z3 M-Coupe so also known as the clown shoe is the most popular nickname in
the car community one of the most recognizable car designs I think ever
it's a silhouette that is unmistakable I mean there's really I hate the sound
cliche but there's really nothing else like it you know it's got a long front
end stubby rear with the wheels you know shoved towards the rear of the
quarter panels near the back it's in lines it's a stick shift in line six
powered coupe with C pillars and a roof bolted onto it welded onto it basically
right yeah it's BMW's Z3 M Roadster with added structural support basically yeah
yeah exactly we've talked about this car in his podcast a few times you know
since it's been for sale and I just feel like this is a car that we need to
talk about more because you know it's gonna stand a test of time looks wise
this thing is so unique right we call it a clown shoe because it has the long
hood and all that but most there's a lot of cars that have a long hood even a Z4
had a long hood right like there's a lot of sports cars that have a long hood
right that's obviously design language that's been going around since like the
early SLs Jaguar yeah Jaguar E-Type and all that stuff but the shape of this
car is so unique when it's a coupe right yes the Roadster looks more
proportioned because it's a Roadster it's a convertible supposed to have the
long hood and it just makes sense but when you make this into a coupe which
BMW didn't even like heard it that it was like a secret like engineer team that
put this together and it wasn't even known throughout the company when they
did it back in the late 90s but like my point is is when you look at that car
like you said the silhouette everything about it is so unique that it's
impossible not to turn your head whether you are you're a car enthusiast or not
and be like what the fuck is that yeah yeah you know and it looks aggressive too
it looks more aggressive than the M Roadster has these big wide hips that
attach to the quarter panels and it just looks like like meaty and ready to go
you can tell it isn't just you know a dressed up hot hatchback it's more than
that right rear-wheel drive it's a six speed manual with a it should be five
speed five speed manual because it's the only so what BMW did was they kept the
six speed only for the E46 M3 they didn't want the E30 well this time this
car was essentially based on E36 right 90 it was late 90s then it got the S54
engine in 01 when the E46 came out right so it gave it the engine but it still had
the same look so they didn't carry over the the transmission because I believe
it's a it's a ZF transmission got it okay I see yeah that's the one I haven't
driven yeah unless unless the the coupe got a six speed which I doubt because
they didn't really change the transmission from my understanding it's
ZF but um yeah 01 02 got the S54 which bumped horsepower up to like 315 which
still was less than the E46 S54 engine they kind of watered it down just a
little bit want to compete with each other I'm sure they didn't want to
cannibalize sales but at the same time it's two different cars very the M3 was
is their flagship right yeah like I was saying the M3 is the flagship BMW the
the C63 is the flagship Mercedes and then obviously the RS4 at the time but
this car is there wasn't like the Audi TT never really had a version that could
compete with this right did did the SL ever have a version like on that time
like I don't really think there was a competitor amongst the top three
there's nothing quite like it because all of the hatchbacks from the time would
either be front wheel or all-wheel drive and I think that separates them just by
that alone right makes the clown shoe different yeah because this is only
it's a real real drag you'd expect it like you'd almost expect it to be like a
Golf R competitor but it's really not yeah you know so it really kind of is in
its own category so this is a 2000 esterel blue M coupe asking how much for
that one we're asking 33 okay so let's talk about the type of person I would
buy these cars yeah so let's start let's stay with the BMW right so you know this
is a I had the M roadster and a lot of people when I had the M roadster would
would automatically consider that car a hairdresser's car right it's a z3 you
know with you know concave wheels in the back and you know like haunches for rear
fenders you know it had the s52 motor in it from the e36 m3 so all those cool
factors but at the end of the day it's still a z3 which was essentially a
hairdresser's car right yeah james bond in golden eye like what that was the car
when the car came when the car came out it coincided with the movie and he drove
it in the movie but it never really took off as like a cool car for like a
BMW enthusiast ultimate driving machine car yeah you know there was a lot of
people driving that car that just graduated from a miata you know what I
mean so that's kind of the negative connotation that the z3 m roadster has
always had and I as an owner I kind of felt that especially like you know you
would talk to other enthusiasts and you can tell like oh like your car is cute
like it's not something they go crazy over right and a mine was an estero blue
which I do believe is the nicest color for at least an s52 version so when you
think about the coupe it erases all of that now it's an enthusiast spec car
absolutely right regardless of its stiffness and rigidity with the coupe
version and how you know it's probably gonna now handle better
besides that the look of it alone makes it an enthusiast car
definitely so who's buying this car car enthusiast right
the car didn't sell because simply nobody thought it was good looking when it
first came out right they thought the convertible was better looking because
you know I always say a car that is um and I learned this from Jay Leno a car
that has design language that is both feminine and masculine really usually do
really well right and the z3 m roadster is a feminine looking car but with a
masculine engine in it you know with the the performance you know the it says
BMW m performance on the engine right so it kind of tells you like okay I can now
buy this you know hairdresser's car and and still feel good about it right
so the coupe though I think is strictly like there's no women driving the coupe
you know what I mean like it's it's a masculine car right so as as an
enthusiast I look at that car and it just makes me want it that much more
you know yeah I think the type I want to even take it a step further I think the
type of person who buys it is specifically like a BMW enthusiast or
collector I don't think somebody who's just looking for a fun weekend
performance car that hasn't owned BMWs in the past definitely necessarily sees a
clown shoe and says like oh that's the one I think it's somebody who maybe they
had a e36 m3 at one point maybe they've owned other BMWs maybe they like the
BMWs that are you know smaller you know you could think like 2002 m2 obviously the
the clown shoe those kind of cars I think it's everybody who I've talked to who's
expressed interest in that car has been a BMW owner so you're a Mercedes guy you
see in that car it's the only one of the group you didn't drive obviously so you
can't really speak to it much but what do you think when you see it do you you
don't think the same like damn like I would love to own that car oh absolutely
I mean just me personally as you know I like like my weird quirky cars and the
clown shoe falls right into that I also like the recipe for the clown shoe in line
six manual transmission rear wheel drive short wheelbase small so even as a
Mercedes guy the clown shoe definitely has a strong appeal I also think it's a
good investment I think purchased right it could be a car that you drive for a
few years and you don't lose any money on you might even make a little bit of
money off it if you keep the miles low do the maintenance and you know keep the
car nice so I think there's a lot of different there's a big draw to that
car for a few different reasons but yeah I think the person who buys it it's not
I guess to answer your question more as a Mercedes enthusiast it's not a car
that I'm like oh I gotta have but I think that anybody can appreciate it yeah and
and to your point about it being an investment you're talking low production
still right so this car these cars they only made less than 3000 m coupes in the US right now if
you break it down from s52 and s54 they made more s52s because it was a longer production run
but I mean maybe by like one year I think was 99 2000 actually you know it was about two years
and two years because the s54 came in 01 but regardless rare right it's a manual now the s52
I would say is the more reliable engine of the of the two options so in this case the 2000s and I
have a s52 engine in it the same motor you'd find an e36 m3 I think it's about 220 horsepower
somewhere around there and from me as a owner of the roadster it was plenty power had a lot of
low end torque yeah you know and with with that you can feel like when you when you just do like a
0 to 60 with the s52 and s54 it's like a tenth of a second difference right it's when it goes like
higher in the power range is when you start to feel the difference but but the s52 engine was
plenty of power um and to have a car that looks quirky like that that you'll never see another
one on the road the same for $30,000 like that's a steal because it's gonna be nothing's gonna
ever look like it it's so unique and then not only that it's gonna have great driving dynamics
it's reliable and in the BMW world it's like one of the holy grail cars right so ours only has 62
thousand miles on it right so it's all the more reason it checks all the boxes for a car that's
gonna go up in value right obviously the rarity is there but sometimes rarity doesn't you know
correlate with values correct but a car like this it's a car that nobody bought when it was new
because of how it looked now people are starting to appreciate it for how it looks right so I think
100% it is an investment it will go up in value so the Mercedes so the Mercedes what type of buyer
because now this is technically a wagon not necessarily a hatchback right there's no seats
in the backseat of the M coupe right it's just like pretty much like the little cover for the
cargo area yeah exactly so tell me about the wagon what type of buyer would buy that I would say
somebody who wants an exciting daily driver who maybe doesn't have a long work commute who has
the money to do the regular maintenance on the car I think somebody who just wants to have something
that they can throw luggage into throw skis into pick their kids up from school in put on daily
driver duty but just have something more exciting than your typical crossover yeah I would I would
say that would be the buyer probably somebody a little bit older maybe when I say older I mean like
not early 20s yeah I guess someone who has kids by now and wants something fun still but isn't
going to go home and their wife is going to tell them to return it you know because they're going
to see what they pull up in the driveway they're like oh okay that's just it's a nice practical
Mercedes it's luxury it's it's it's probably quiet right not not the exhaust note when you get into
it but I mean like like there's sound dead material in this car you know what I mean it's not a track
car yeah and if you let your wife drive it she's going to fall in love with it probably more than
you are right so yeah I think you hit it right on the nose it's someone that is going to be a
little bit more older sophisticated maybe with children regardless it checks a lot of boxes
right there's not too many cars out there that you can enjoy as a car enthusiast and and scratch
that itch every single day but still be able to use it every single yes exactly and the the E 63 wagon
is one of those cars and it's special 153 units I mean that's it's beyond ultra low
yeah ultra low production yeah you think the clown shoes rare this is even rare so regardless
I mean whether it's 153 or 1053 whatever it's still a rare car that I look at and I see the
round headlights because when you look at the the w2 what is it the 211 right that body style with
round headlights I feel like in the 10 years ago I was I was like oh those are so ugly like it's so
old man Mercedes I hated it but now I look at it it's kind of like the clown shoe it's like oh wow
like I like the round headlights yeah it just looks cleaner looks typical quintessential Mercedes
it works I feel like it's pretty inoffensive that's how I look at it like it's not it's not very
polarizing there's people who don't like it who want you know one that's a little bit newer or a
little bit different but I don't think they really I don't think they really offend very many people
yeah okay so last one we wanted r8 so v10 gated yeah who's gonna buy who who do you think would buy
a r8 well that could go a couple different ways there could be somebody who buys that car that has
you know money for toys that wants their next track car just to leave it as is and bring it
to the track it could be somebody who kind of like Steve who we interviewed with the viper
who always wanted an r8 in their garage and now is the chance for them to get the one that checks
all the boxes manual v10 coupe red interior is cool it's gonna be somebody who also sees the
value in the r8 both as a budget supercar and as a potential future investment considering that you
know again this is the v10 it's the manual it's gonna weed out the people who just want to like
show off because if you just want to show off you can get an automatic v8 r8 for a spider for a lot
cheaper right this is going to be somebody who's a driving enthusiast yeah yeah that's a good point
I think when you look at all three cars right the Audi first and foremost the gated shifter
yeah you can technically get that in a v8 version right but it's the it's the holy grail of the r8
yes the coupe most people want a coupe not it's the picture in the dictionary next to the r8
right exactly so to me that this is the the one to get right it's it significantly more money
it's also significantly more money than the other two cars we talked about yeah right we're talking
different league like over a hundred thousand dollars right so different league but at the same
time it is special right and I think the car again another one of those cars that it's not that
nobody bought them when they were new right the production numbers are a little bit higher than
other cars we talked about because they were more desirable from the get-go yes right um one of the
I mean the last gated manual supercar I mean you can buy one today and you'll still have a modern
supercar that you can row gears in right and since that car came out you can't really say that of
anything else that fall that falls into the same category yeah you're 100 right um so that's an
excellent point it is a supercar right you look proper supercar yeah you look at it and there's
no denying that mm-hmm so the bends also I would say to me from a car enthusiast point is this a
holy grail of e63 AMG's naturally aspirated v8 right I feel like as time goes on people are
going to start to recognize like Jason Camis's video was no like he didn't put it out now because
it was just you know he happened to have those three cars he's pretty much proven a point that
naturally aspirated v8's is a thing of the past right no one's gonna ever do this anymore
right but at the same time this was like the glory days of the of the big german three
yeah right now people want naturally aspirated v8's because of the simple sound of that that car
makes right um yeah v6 can make a great sound sounding engine as well um but at the end of the
day like that's that's the holy grail right I in my opinion I think a v8 naturally aspirated
when AMG cars were you know before the bi-turbo and all that and even with reliability
yes that's another thing exactly so I think simplicity it's just simpler and everybody
who knows Mercedes knows that Mercedes makes a damn good naturally aspirated v8 so I think in the
future between the different models if we're going to compare the 6.3 twin turbo the naturally
aspirated 6.3 that we're talking about and the earlier supercharged 5.5s I think down the road
the 6.3 na is going to be the one that everybody wants to have yeah I agree I think it's an investment
as well getting this ain't if you were to buy this AMG wagon it is definitely an investment
not only because of how rare it is but because of that powertrain yeah in that in that platform
right so the BMW isn't the holy grail version because it's not the s54 and like let's say
laguna seca blue or they made mcoops even in like phoenix yellow some rare colors that are
super sought after but when you look at this particular model the reliability of the s52
I think the attractive part right because now yeah you have less horsepower but like I said
that low end torque is enough for you to feel like you're in a car that special it's not like
you're not going to drive it like you would drive a miata it's not going to feel slow right so yeah
you can ring it out I think up to like 7 000 rpms is I think the red line somewhere around there but
it's just a reliable car from the glory days of BMW right straight six naturally aspirated
right 3.2 liter this was an engine that you can comfortably put over 150 000 miles on and
not even think twice about it you know and that's special right yeah so that's why I think this is
also a good buy and a good investment because you're you're gonna still see them on the road in
15 20 years I mean people are gonna only drive them once in a blue yeah you're not gonna put
them any miles on them but it'll handle it yeah absolutely so we got like four minutes left any
any closing thoughts um well let me ask you this yeah ask which one of the three would you want
oh regardless of money r8 all the way okay r8 all the way that's easy even like as a Mercedes guy
particularly a Mercedes wagon guy I mean like come on like the r8 I love red interior I'm a
sucker for red interior with white paint I just think it's such a beautiful color combo
um the gated v10 um feel the sound of the v10 the shifter feel of the gated manual
just makes it like it makes it a dream car yeah even more than the wagon I would say this though
there will come a time because I don't know if the r8 is fully 100% depreciated yet I'm not positive
on that I can't say it's not it hasn't necessarily been it's right around the 15 year mark right so
like you always think of that bell curve like when it reaches its bottom right and it starts to
come back up again um I agree that that there's not going to be another you know Audi like that car
again um but at the same time the other two cars I could see eventually being worth over 100 grand
down the road in like the next 15 years possibly yeah I can see it and it's going to take a little
bit for people to recognize it also depends on which one too right like what kind of example
right of course the example of the car how clean how well taken care of it was
but we're talking well these examples are really clean right the ones that are for sale
the midnight it's like a midnight blue on the yeah it's called tanzanite blue metallic it's kind of
like an indigo color like an indigo metallic I'll post photos of the of the cars on the instagram page
so yeah so that wraps up awesome this week's episode great episode so I appreciate you coming
