Yep, seven number seven seven is a good number seven heaven seven up all of the good. I was going to say secret seven but seven and seven and seven but this is a this is not that kind of podcast.

Nope, not that kind of podcast. I don't have you. You never really drink that much growing when you were when you were younger. You drink some but not like your friends and not like other Marines.

No, random boring fact about one half of the podcast. I did make it through my entire enlistment in the Marine Corps. I'll be at only four years active duty.

I never drank a single beer and I never drank a single cup of coffee.

Two liquids that actually lubricate the United States Marine Corps and I never partook in either one.

I think you need to somehow prove that we need witness testimony corroborating your story. The coffee part, I can believe the beer part knowing your friends from back then.

I am kind of I would be surprised because they drink everything else.

Yeah, yeah, I'm not saying I haven't you know partaken in an alcoholic drink, but I've never had a beer. I can't stand the smell and I just assume I wouldn't like the taste so I just said no to it.

I feel a negative comment coming.

Because there are a lot of beer. I'm not a beer guy either.

But just not my thing.

I in my old age and my friends are drinking a lot of bourbon and things like that. They want me to try these beers and things.

You know, I'll give it old college fried and I was like, this is disgusting. Why do y'all spend so much money on this?

Well, I'll let me try.

There have been two beers that I've tried that taste decent because they were good, but they taste more like wine than beer.

So I don't know if that really says anything.

While we're continuing on that confession streak, several many years ago, more than 12 less than 20 years ago, my urologist, because I have regular kidney stones, told me that it would be best if I drink like a prescribed amount of red wine.

Every night would help with the kidney stones.

Oh, and I said, OK, so I bought a bottle and I said, I'm going to do this.

And so every night for however many nights are in a single bottle of red wine at, you know, four ounces, I don't know, half a cup, whatever it was I measured out and drank.

I have had that much red wine in my life, that one bottle over the course of, you know, however many nights are in a bottle at that measurement, but that's it.

That's the only wine I've ever had in my entire life.

I don't like the smell.

It smells like the bottom of a trash can.

I just don't like the smell of fermented things.

So I just don't drink it.

I mean, if it's an acquired taste and you have to go out of your way to acquire it, probably just better off not acquiring it.

See, you you have a you have a moral sense or or you're more disciplined than most.

I guess that's the best way.

Maybe use more discipline.

I think I'm probably just more particular and more stubborn.

That for sure you are.

Everybody who knows you in real life absolutely knows that.

But yeah, now that we talked about all the adult beverages that we did or did not drink.

For the record, there are some out there that we are still pretty good.

So don't beat us up too bad that we would drink every now and then or try might try every now and then.

We're supposed to be talking about cars.

I will before we get into the car, a specific car thing, let's talk about something that I am in.

I think I'm going to start working.

It's pretty easy to just kill off random cars.

I did the same thing.

I'll look all of Chrysler motors.

First of all, you all of Fiat.

All of Hyundai.

You all of Kia.

But this is the way I keep going.

Well, how many you want me to kill all of Chevrolet.

So if it if it's not made by Porsche, Porsche Toyota.

Porsche Toyota or a Ford truck, it has to die.

I didn't say it has to.

But I mean, if you're making me choose.

Yeah.

See, that does mighty particular of you going back to.

So yeah, I'm inspired by something that we kind of ran across.

And it just seems as if.

That we can adapt this to an automotive game.

Well, that sounds fun.

So I don't know.

I don't know how well this is going to go out.

This is a future episode because I got to give you more than this one option.

And we just came across this thing today.

So that about that's about the future games that we're going to play.

I guess, you know what?

I'll start off a little bit.

So last week we talked a lot last week or the last time was on him.

We talked a lot about me and my midlife crisis.

And you know, they hard me having a hard time making the decision.

So I sit there and I said self and myself says itself back and we had a conversation.

And I think I figured out something.

What'd you figure out?

And so as long as we've known each other, you've been more the driver guy.

I appreciate fast cars.

I appreciate cars that handle well and not kicking things out of bed for it being an exceptional performance car.

But the number one thing that I the first thing I fell in love with with cars was features.

Second features.

Yeah.

No custom customizable.

Yeah, but you but you've always been a feature guy, whether it's features you add or features that come in the car.

You you've always cared more about the features of a vehicle.

It's it's or as Doug would call them there.

It's quirks.

Yeah, quirks.

For sure.

I can agree with you when you put it that way.

Whether I added it or it came with it, there were things that I wanted the cars that I drove to have, right?

That's right.

And to give everybody an example.

Back in the day, I guess it was late 90s.

I bought a 1991 mercury tracer from another Marine.

And it had a little yes.

Yep.

It had a little incident where they had to replace the hood.

So it would the car was blue and it had a black it had a black hood on it.

And it had a very large dent in the door.

Yes, it had a dent in the door too.

It was I think it was 1.9 1.9.

Fosby.

And my friends and people would ask us like why would you buy this car?

Why would you drive this car every day?

What is wrong with you?

Why don't you just put just go get something new.

And then they wrote in the car and because we were in the late 90s early 2000s, I put a CD in of whatever song there was listening to.

And then it was like, oh, this car is stupid loud.

I was like, yep, it is.

It's stupid loud.

There's more there's more money in the car in the cardio in this car than in the car.

I think I paid $700 for that car.

Yeah.

And then we proceeded to remove the entire interior in the parking lot of or in the grass in front of in front of your house at TT.

Yeah, absolutely.

Did all that.

I mean, I was telling I was reminding somebody the other week that yeah, he has needed help with some cardio stuff in his truck.

And I came out of the house and I was helping him out.

And I was like, yeah, man, I remember doing this for, you know, for extra money.

Yeah, this.

But anyway, that car was a $700 car with like $3,000 worth of car with audio upgrades in it.

And because it was different from everybody else's stuff, it didn't stand out.

I was fine with it.

I was completely fine with it.

And before, before you ask, we, we removed all the interior.

And, and Donna matted the whole inside of the car before putting stuff in it because Stanley wanted it to be loud.

But and to make a reference from that same time period, he did not want it to sound like two midgets wrestling in the trunk.

Yes.

Yes, we can't have two midgets wrestling trunk.

We can't do that.

But yeah, so I mean, that's been the thing through me is having a pick up platform chassis and doing something to it where it looks like an everyday car or it doesn't stand out.

But I know a special.

And so over my car life of buying cars, I've always wanted to do certain things in cars to whatever car was whatever vehicle was and just probably for financial reasons or just time reasons.

I was never able to do it.

So I've always had this thing in my head.

I'm going to go back about all the one of the car that I had and do the things that I want to it and then sell it and just keep going.

Right.

And try to get as far back as I want it to.

So is so is all of this your way of telling me that you have bought a Toyota inter-sale or a Mercury tracer?

No.

Oh, OK.

No.

I don't even know if you can find I don't even know if that that car street legal down, bro.

So I think so I was thinking about myself and you tell me if I'm crazy.

Well, don't tell me if I'm crazy because answer that is yes.

I'm not necessarily looking for a car.

I'm looking for the right piece of paper to start from the right platform to start.

And to be honest, it doesn't matter to me so much if it's a manual and automatic, even though I prefer manual.

It matters that I get to do the things to it that I that I envision doing to it.

And I'm at a stage of life where I can pretty much do that.

Dependent on the car.

And so I think that's really what I'm looking for.

Looking for it.

Not a car.

Like you remember when you were looking for when you look for them for sure.

And you were telling me the salesman is like, I'm not I'm not I'm not shopping for a car shopping for a transmission.

That's exactly right.

And I think that's a perfectly acceptable thing.

Like I think that is the key to the midlife crisis is to take the time to evaluate what what it's exactly are you scratching.

Is it is a you won't just scratch the edge of to your point the experience of doing the things to a car that you want to do.

And dude, I'm telling you right now, like the the the performance out of an audio system that you can get for the dollar spent compared to when we were young is nuts.

Oh, absolutely.

Absolutely.

If you find an old car, the it's easy to replace and add to and it's not like a ridiculous screen in it that you can't work with.

Dude, for for.

I don't know.

Three to $5,000 you can have.

You can have like triple the sound system we had when we were young.

Oh, for sure.

I mean, I still follow.

It's kind of like that just to see how what's the word how particular Dean is when it comes to the way he twist the wire and everything having to have Tesla tape on it and having to look factory, you know, everything having a certain look.

I was like, I do hate to break it to you.

I have been searching while you were explaining that and there are currently no mercury tracers within 500 miles of us for you to buy.

I found I found you a sweet Capri.

And some poogers and maybe even a sable here and there, but outside of that it's an SUV or a marauder or a grand marquee.

That's pretty much it.

Yeah.

And so.

Hey, so as soon as going along those same lines back in the day, I mean, you so talking to young bill.

What would what would have been the perfect.

What would have been the ideal starting point for a car for you back then.

When we were in our early 20s.

Okay, so that's a yes.

Yes.

So it's a loaded question.

Of course it is.

But but the easy answer.

The easy answer is the Honda Civic.

Hmm.

The Honda Civic.

I mean, it was in our time.

It was the blank slate car.

Yeah.

You could buy one for $500 and you could buy one for $20,000.

You could buy one and put $500 into it and it looked very much like it belongs just to you.

You could buy one and put $15,000 in it and it looked like you have one that belongs just to you.

And and then the wide array of part availability and tuner components.

And yeah, I mean, you know, at the end of the day, everybody's making similar horsepower and the cars are all performing, you know, in a similar fashion.

You you're really not going to make you have spent a whole lot of money to have the fastest Honda Civic in town and and then you're still slower than most other SUVs and minivans.

You know, but it's your Honda Civic.

So it was really the blank slate.

If you wanted to make a car yours, it's probably the car to start with.

Yeah.

To be honest, I thought for for part of me, I thought you would have said agenda.

Oh, God.

The square agenda.

Oh, guys.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

The mark mark three.

I knew you really got it right.

But I can see.

I mean, the city was a lot of people was the American.

The Americans.

Start young American starting point where we were the age, like in Japan or something like that.

A lot of Nissan was more popular than the Honda for some weird reason.

But well, about weird reason because you can get more horsepower.

But yeah, but it also was a little bit easier to get a Nissan in Japan.

That that was a customizable or the Nissan right in the US.

If you wanted a Nissan that was fast and you could afford to do anything to it after you bought it.

And you were probably buying like a Maxima or an Ultima or a stanza.

You weren't buying a century.

You weren't buying a 300 Z.

Yeah.

Right.

And modifying it.

You know, because once you bought the 300 Z, you were broke.

Yeah.

I mean, buying a Z back then was like it was by spending more money on a Mustang.

I mean, yes, you could you could make a car payment, but somebody else had to put gas

in it for you to go anywhere.

That's right.

You know, so whereas in Japan, you could go get, you know, a Sylvia or Skyline or, you

know, you could pick up something easier and cheaper.

And there were a lot more parts readily available for it in Japan.

Yeah.

So for me, it as much as I like civics and things like that.

And this this came from before we were before we met each other.

Back when Ford escorts were the king in the area that I was in.

Hmm.

If you had a clean Honda Accord, it was like the perfect black.

So back to see if you check your memory a little bit.

So remember everybody?

There was this trend where everybody went from two subs in the back to three.

Oh, yeah.

And you get the three.

You say you get the three gel audio W sixes.

And you wired them in series.

And it fit perfectly in that space in the in the back of that on the Honda Accord.

It didn't really fit in a civic.

It just wasn't quite wide enough, but it would fit in the Honda Accord.

But anyway, so when I was a kid, when I was a kid yet.

Honda Civic.

That was modified.

Just just rims on it and a little bit of system.

You were you.

You were king.

I mean, everybody else didn't have the first of all, most people were driving escorts.

That's right.

Nobody has really had the money to do that.

And to be honest, when I was that young civics and preludes and things just

wasn't where I was at.

So the just to move this along a little bit.

I think what it is I'm looking for is a chassis that I'm that I that I can do that

known things that I want to do for to it.

And also, I'm going to be able to drive the car on a daily basis because like you

in your in your in your car, I don't I don't want this is just to just sit in the driveway.

I want to drive it.

I want people.

I want somebody to pull up next to me and and not look neck, not look at the car because

they don't know what's special, but I don't.

That's right.

So I was talking to my wife about it and I'm talking to you about it now and I'm talking

to everybody else about it.

And I would.

I'm going to ask you what it today.

What do you think is a good.

Like Slate.

Going back.

10 years 15 10 15 years in the last 10 15 years.

Knowing me.

No, what you know what's a good place for you knowing 10 10 15 years.

I can already guess what it is.

I think I can guess.

Yeah, see, I mean.

I feel like I feel like.

What I would want in a blank slate.

The itches I have that need to be scratched and the blank slates that I like.

I already have.

I'm in a good spot right now.

I have a manual all wheel drive.

Without in my mind, I think is basically a rally car.

With which.

I love.

And I have two.

Of the best SUVs ever built.

In the history of the world.

No questions asked.

So.

Well, whatever.

You know, so, so I don't, I mean.

I don't think there's anything else that I can think of blank slate wise.

That I would really crave after outside of maybe having.

You know, a boxer or a Cayman.

Or this most recent itch of really wanting something that's.

Rear wheel drive manual and a V8.

So, you know, maybe a Cobra replica because I just really did fall in love with.

Having one for a week.

I think for you right now, man.

And this is blasphemous blasphemous for us.

Not necessarily that we got an issue with the car, but we do have a little bit of issue with the people, even though there are some people who own the car that we love.

I think the blank slate right right now for you is.

May may end up being.

A Mustang.

Hmm.

And it might be.

I mean, it might not be a Mustang. Well, it's probably going to be a Mustang because you like Ford over Chevy over General Motors.

But.

Maybe the Camaro is a better fit.

Even though, because it would, it was.

In out of the box, I think I think I'm correct in saying it's just a better handling car out of the box.

I would never buy.

Second.

I would never buy Camaro.

I know you wouldn't.

So that I know you wouldn't. So that's where that's what it was like a 1969 Camaro.

Then, then, then yeah, maybe.

I don't think that car is no scratch.

I think you regardless of how old it is you of everybody I know.

Performance is not in a straight line for you.

No, it's definitely not. I mean, but, but here's the thing.

There's, there's also the, the itch that a Mustang fulfills potentially or a Copa replica.

I can scratch that itch also with a 1966 Ford Galaxy.

With like a K code galaxy with a manual and a, and a, you know, a big block, but.

What I want is I want a manual with an old car, particularly possibly.

And, and the right sound.

You know, maybe carbureted, maybe not.

That doesn't really matter.

I'm not, you know, married to one camp or the other.

But, but something, you know, with a good verbal and I don't have to be fast in it because it's listen at the end of the day.

I drove that Cobra around for a week and, and I recorded some drives on some particular roads around me at a spirited pace.

Let's, let's call it seven to nine out of 10 pace in, in, in that car.

And then just out of curiosity, I recorded the same section of road in, in my golf R at also a spirited seven to nine pace.

And my four cylinder golf R closure years, if you're like a V8 beerist, my four cylinder golf R light years faster, like minutes faster over the span of a road that's essentially the length of a lap of the Nurburgring.

Right.

So in that 14 to 15 miles stretch span.

I'm talking minutes of difference.

That's how significant the technology makes the car faster.

So it's not about speed.

That that itch is a an experience itch.

And I think that's where my midlife crisis lives at the moment is that it could be a 1955 Chevy Bel Air.

If it's got the right rumble and a manual transmission.

And you know what the Bel Air maybe even gets it even better because I have the option of a bench seat in the front.

And that also is an experience.

That complicates things.

Why?

Because you just got the idea of how nice a bench seat would be in the front.

No, no, because you're the, you're the weirdo who wants to bench seat in the front.

I 100% do that's why I'm interested in the scout.

I know.

We all know that you like a good bench seat and there's nothing wrong with a good bench seat.

It's just you're the weirdo that can turn the table.

I don't think I'm the weirdo.

I think I'm just a little bit different.

I know two ladies not too far from you that would confidently call you a weirdo.

One of them would do a giggling and the other one would do it with the most serious look on her face.

Okay, fair enough.

But yeah, man, I think.

And when it comes to blanks, I'll take one blank slate that popped on my mind here lately and then we're going to talk about not talk about me.

For Maverick Lobo.

Okay, so it's funny you say that because while we're talking about blank slates, I have been and this is one of those things that our listeners will never think that we didn't just make up.

Never, but or that we scripted this, but I have for you, I have selected to blank slate automobiles for your viewing pleasure and I'm working on moving them over to my second screen so that you can see them.

I can get them there.

Okay.

Why you do that another blank slate that I remember finally is the old Nissan Maximus.

Yeah, with with with the eye.

You could get them with manuals.

Oh, for the SHL afford towards SHL.

Yeah, those are both those are both cars that I could see you, you know, enjoying.

Yeah.

Accurate legend.

Gosh.

Car was beautiful.

It's a good looking car. It's still a good looking car. Yeah. Yeah. Accurate legend.

I mean, even when you get a little bit more modern, which I haven't looked for is Honda cord v6 manual.

Hard to find but very, very.

Even even Toyota Toyota Camry TRD.

I would have to get rid of the wing and then it blend in it blend into everything else and nobody would never know what it is.

And that's what I want. That's what I like.

I would say this, even though there's a part of it that I hate the last generation, the last generation Nissan Maxima.

One of the biggest reasons is it didn't have a big stupid spring and that you can't take out.

It had modern power, modern features, but it had it had the the the the two forces that are.

That that are fighting against each other is a big big displacement v6 and a CVT. They don't like each other.

If I could somehow swap that that transmission out with that nine speed that that'd be amazing.

But yeah, man, this is I think that's what it is, man.

There's a blank slate that I'm looking for is just I got to pick the right like slate.

Oh, I remember that guy.

I matter of fact, let me tell you about that dealership right there.

That dealership right there is where that that that accurate TSX I was looking for that I was looking at buying is very, very interesting.

Well, these are the two blank slates that I thought about for you as you were describing what what it is that you like about vehicles and what you what you would like to pursue in a characteristic of your next vehicle.

What I heard you say was I like to not care so much about what it looks like when I start, but where I want to take it when it's done.

Correct.

And so, you know, the two vehicles that jumped out at me most are two vehicles that that actually have really good horsepower.

I don't remember what these exactly made like two to something.

Yeah.

You know, and the 4.3 liter v6 that is very closely related to a small block Chevy at the time the five three is essentially a five three with the Dagon with two cylinders cut off.

That's exactly right.

So so I I'm presenting this to you in two fashions one is an SUV as the the Chevrolet Blazer extreme.

Yes, and in in blue.

Yeah, it's not the way you would have it with wheels and you know, but it's it's a starting point.

Absolutely.

And and then we'll just we'll close out this photo gallery so that you can see that this thing is $5,000.

And I know exactly where it is.

And it's right down there over me you could have this thing pretty pretty quickly and and what's, you know, again, this is a starting point right it's automatic.

It's it's it's got cloth, but it's got room in the back so you could build a box back there and have subs.

You can do you can easily remove door cards and upgrade speakers because you're new enough that you have space for stuff.

And then this also is still somewhat practical as an SUV or my man always needs a pickup.

So I also found you a long bed six foot bed Chevrolet S 10 same drivetrain.

And look somebody's already got a head unit in there so you know you can do a big double din head unit.

Get up and it's got an extended cab.

It's not a regular cab so you got some room for some subs right behind your seat.

Yep.

And you still get that that experience you're looking for and look this thing $6,000.

Yep.

I mean, you are you the those those two vehicles absolutely fit.

I kind of already have something very similar to that we'll talk about.

I technically own a 91 Ford Ranger.

You technically own it by one of your children are driving it.

No, no, no.

It's in the yard.

My grandmother's yard right now.

It's just sitting there.

I thought about going to get that and stripping everything off of it and starting over from scratch there too.

But that's one thing.

I bought a car from my mom back in the day because she just needed something quick and I did the day was quick to buy.

I bought it from another Marine who was selling the car.

But yeah, I remember I remember that the blazer extreme very funny.

I also know you can put a 350 in it.

It will accept all of the small block.

I think the biggest the biggest V8 I seen in it is a 380 383.

But yeah, yeah, yeah, they fit.

It works.

I'm going to ask your friend, didn't your friend buy in a bind that Maverick.

Yeah, he had a Maverick and now he has a Bronco.

I need to talk to him about something in that car.

But anyway, so anyway, that's enough about me.

Nobody wants to hear stuff about me.

And costs less than a fully.

I believe that would be the 2026 Corvette that are one X.

I just think it sounds better than Z when you're talking about a car that's that awesome.

I, you know, for this car right here, they could have came up with a different name.

They could have it could rate a different name.

But anyway, yeah.

So last, last time we was talking with Bill broke up the Corvette said, as you want to

say it now, like we're Canadian or something.

Speaking of Canadians.

Did you see that the fellas from throttle house?

I think they're Canadian.

They're two out of three of the new hosts of the top gear reboot.

What?

Yeah.

No, I did not.

That's been news for like over a week now.

I matter of fact, I haven't watched one of the videos.

I think this year yet.

I don't know why.

I don't know if they've been putting out videos this year because they are recording a new season of top gear, which they are two out of the three hosts of.

Well, good for them.

I mean,

that actually kind of fits with them guys.

They are, they are entertaining outside of just the cars.

I mean, I watched their videos because they're kind of funny.

The third guy, the third guy they went with, I'm not familiar with his work.

I believe as far as I can tell, I think he is some sort of tick tocker.

But he's possibly in middle school based on how young he looks.

I'm not sure.

I definitely want to know.

You said tick tock.

I don't know.

I don't do that.

Yeah, me neither.

I'm an adult.

I'm a full grown adult.

But yeah, I did not know that.

Good for them dudes, man.

I am entertained by them often and it's not just a car that they're reviewing.

They poke fun at each other.

They talk trash to each other.

They disagree with each other so much about what car.

They remind me of us.

I would agree.

Yeah, they have a good rapport with one another.

And, you know, their opinions vary just enough on cars that will,

I think it'll make it interesting.

I hope it works for them because Top Gear has struggled,

which is sad because, I mean, Chris Harris is one of my all time

favorite car people.

And honestly, I don't think he got a fair shake with Top Gear

because of his other hosts.

That's just my opinion.

Yeah, I mean, you got to have chemistry coming in the door.

I mean, Derek talked to us about that.

I mean, one of the things that worked on that show is all of them guys

like each other.

Yep.

And chemistry is very important.

they feel comfortable saying in public.

I don't think that's the right number.

And the reason I don't think that's the right number is

I was one of my, one of my YouTubers who I like a tech guy

named MKBHD.

He brought up this car on his podcast with his group.

And he said the only car and these dudes have driven some

crazy stuff because he's a, he's a car guy even though he's

like a fleshling car guy.

The only car that they drove that was faster than that car

and it was only faster than that car about 1,100.

So a second was a rematch.

Wow.

And the rematch costs $3 million more than that car.

Yeah.

That's nuts, man.

$3 million more than that car to get 1,100 of a second offer.

And at the same time, this car is also doing 8.99 in a quarter

mile at 157 miles per hour.

Both of us grew up and we're at least fans to some degree

of drag racing.
