The blower fan is the fan that moves air through the heating/cooling system. Changing its speed changes how strongly air is pushed into the cabin.

“Max A/C” is the setting meant to cool the car as hard and as fast as possible. It usually forces the system to run in its strongest cooling mode.

things on how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system properly, and you may
know, or you may not know, and some of you know, and some of you may not know,
and some of you I might know, and some of them of you I might not know. Okay, let's

Well let's jump into our program today. We are going to take on another segment
of today's segment is part three of our air conditioning tutorial. So I broken
it down into pieces because I did do a couple of programs back in the winter on
air conditioning. It was probably a little bit early and I re-listened to them
and there's, I gave you like way too much information in one segment and then I did
a part two and it was like you know what that's a lot of information to take in
in two programs so I decided let's do it again but let's break it down into bite
size chunks because that's how you eat an elephant one bite at a time. So today's
program is AC tutorial part three. So let's have our morning swiggy you ready?

lot to learn and once you learn the basics you're now kind of dangerous and you're more protected
when you take your vehicle into the repair shop to prevent or at least reduce the opportunity for
someone to rip you off to take advantage of you to steal your money and I have fielded thousands
of those emails through radio over 31 years on different networks and I'll tell you that is a
common a very common question that I would get hey motormouth I took the car and had this done
do you think they ripped me off well hang on to my coattails and I'll make sure that you'll know
enough to know if they're shooting the bull if you know what I'm saying here we go on 321
got it ready got your smoothie for your espresso 321
ah that was so good refreshing as they say refreshing and let's see what we got for our
weather report for today let's check it out here it comes we're heading into the weekend let's hope
that uh we got some nice wet nicer weather coming in I know the temperatures are going to be a little
low side but we're doing good because we've almost leveled out in the mid 60s so we can run our 30
day fuel savings challenge if you want to put an extra 100 bucks back in your bank account instead of
in the tank I can teach you how I've been doing it myself for a long time and it works if you do it
it will work all right here we go um yeah 64 degrees going to be the high for today
precipitation we're at zero that's a good number in any language zero is still zero our low
temperature will be 45 degrees between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. the high will be 64 between 3 p.m. and
4 p.m. today the temperature range will feel like 37 to 57 wind will make it feel cooler
than the actual temperature so that's what we got for fun Friday here in the car connection
workshop on the south shores of Lake Erie and in through the Niagara region all the way to
Niagara Falls the big one I think it's the nicer looking falls it is lots of stuff going on down
in Niagara Falls anytime you want to pop down this way just uh check out the website for Niagara
Falls there's always something going on down there always let's jump into our topic being part three
of our ac air conditioning vehicle air conditioning tutorial today is number one how to use your air
conditioning in your car so the next part part four will be the wrap up and that's where I'm going
to teach you how to shut the system down on your vehicle properly every single time and if you do
that you will not have an air conditioning car that smells like an old hockey bag work boot or
gym socks and plus something else we can't figure out what it is another there are a couple other
components to that smell but it's ooh that smell it's not good so if you already have a vehicle
that has that smell I'll tell you this straight up I've been an ac tech for 44 years I have tried
every juice every goo every spray every tool known to mankind to get rid of that smell it's
impossible and I'll talk about that a little bit uh as time permits tomorrow on the shutdown how to
shut your vehicle's air conditioning down but that's probably gonna wait uh that will be Monday's
program because tomorrow is Q&A Saturday so you have till noon today to get your questions in
into the pile so that I can select three beauties to share with you on Saturday morning's program
that is a full one hour Q&A I pull out three questions from everything that you've sent me
and I break those questions down to give you a complete and thorough answer so that's what I do
on Saturday so we'll finish the air conditioning tutorial part four on Monday this Monday coming
so hang in for that all right so here we go five things on how to use your vehicle's air
conditioning system properly that's what we're working on right now how do you get this thing
running and how do you work it properly to get the vehicle cooled down I've got it broken down
into nugget size pieces starting with number one how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system
properly and get the car cooled down so I'm going to give you some really good gold nuggets and I'll
tell you this I know a lot of you're gonna say that's hokey and I'm gonna say you know when I first
learned it I thought you know what our cows flying today should I have brought a snow shovel to clean
up but here's what I've learned in four decades it's true what I'm about to tell you is 100 percent
tried tested and true if you follow the instructions I'm about to give you you will make your air
conditioning system on your vehicle happy happy happy and it might even take you out for lunch
and you don't have to pay but it won't take money out of your pocket it's good practice it works
every time and here's what I would tell you before you poo poo what I'm about to tell you
do it for one whole month do it for one whole month because this is what I've been doing to my own
vehicle since I learned it from a long time ac tech who's a lot older than me like way older and
you know what that's where the nuggets come from okay so get ready so I thought I'd give you a
prerequisite because I know a bunch of you there's going to be the ones that say oh that's a lot of
crap that guy doesn't know diddly squat about doodly diddly well you know one time a salesman
asked me came into the shop and I had my coveralls on it says Jenkins automotive Nile Jenkins on the
other side and he says uh are um are you somebody and I looked down at my tag and I'm going no
no I'm not somebody are you looking for somebody yeah I'm looking for somebody is somebody here
I go um I don't think so let me go have a look no somebody's not here I'm just nobody oh well I'll
stop by again next week and see if I can catch somebody okay then so that would be me I am the
somebody in this particular case oh hello there um are the muffins ready it could be it's actually
skippy sending me a text well I'm on the air but she doesn't know uh huh uh huh yep okay she's got
amazing gals she's very very uh intuitive and creative so anyways okay here we go so for all of
you or that are going to poo poo this before you even try it you need to do it and do it accurately
so in other words don't forgo a step don't modify what I'm telling you do it exactly how I'm telling
you and you will save your vehicle's air conditioning system and trust me you will not die from heat
exhaustion you won't you just won't but I am going to explain the way you have been using your air
conditioning system does not work or help your air conditioning system in your vehicle one iota
all right I got that out of my system number two
first of all don't just shut the air conditioning off we're going to cover that on Monday that's bad
so I'm going to give you a outline on how you shut the system down this is how we're going to get
it going and get you cooled off very very quickly first of all you're going to put all the windows
down four at least four I mean if it's a two-door I understand you can't make the four it's going
to be two use your discretion on that two inches so about the width of two fingers is enough all the
way around now you're going to turn the fan on the blower fan to low speed low
fan speed not high blast paste your lips against the back of your head or on the rear window deck
no low speed stay with me so all windows down two inches fan motor and low speed max ac got it
max ac is where you need to be okay so let me recap four windows down or two windows down if
it's a two-door two inches low fan speed max air conditioning don't forget to hit the recirculate
setting all right and then you're going to set the air to blow at your feet not in the center of
the dash not on defrost to your feet okay again windows down two inches low fan speed max ac is
the setting and don't forget to hit recirculate a lot of people don't do that because if you don't
hit the recirculate button here's what you're doing you're trying to cool down the planet from
outside so you're you're helping trying to help people out but you're not getting the car cool
because you're cooling off outside air recirculate means you're recirculating the air inside your
vehicle that's already cooled down so you're not bringing any outside air into the cabin area
that's hot and we got to cool it off from ground zero no recirculate stops that from happening
so a lot of people make that mistake they don't turn on the recirculate button
so make sure you do that so a quick recap so you don't miss anything
in the car windows down two inches it's a 44 windows if it's two it's two windows
low fan speed max ac hit the recirculate button setting make sure that's on
okay now you're gonna you're gonna drive and here's how this is gonna work it's called capillary
action and when i first learned about how to do this properly i poo pooed it but i then i did it
and i i was i set out to disprove it okay so i was that guy i set out to disprove it you know when
somebody tells you something that actually has you should give them the respect because they do
things right but you you're you're listening and you're going yeah yeah my pops does that my brother
does that my sister does that they'll ask me a question and then i know whether they're listening
or not or they're gonna actually do what i'm suggesting they do this yeah yeah yeah that what
that man actually is interpreted to say is i am i'm sort of listening i really don't care for
what you're telling me i'm not buying into it it doesn't match what i was thinking of doing anyway
i just wanted to see if what you were gonna say match what i was already thinking that's what
that means it took me probably 35 years to figure that out that i was wasting my breath so anyways
when this old fella who'd been in air conditioning all his life told me how to do this i set out
to poo poo it and then guess what i couldn't believe it worked and it does okay so now you've
done all those steps the windows are down max ac fans on low speed you've got the vents and you've
got recirculate recirculate on and you've got the vents set to the floor to your feet here's how
you can also verify this works wear a pair of shorts or a skirt if you're you know if that's
your thing yeah there really is only two people you won't get into that conversation not here
not now but anyways if you wear a skirt perfect or shorts when you do this test with
shorts on and no socks just shoes or whatever footwear floats your boat for the day because
here's what i want you to feel it's this is where it's important and this is where i thought i would
catch this guy out and go ah he's full of you know he's full of horse pucky and he wasn't because as
i'm sitting in the car and i'm moving and this is what he would say and it made sense after i thought
about it for a while cold air is heavy hot air rises think about it this is the science part
and it's true cold air is heavier than hot air cold air goes to the floor it drops hot air rises
so where's the heat it's pretty much above your knees the hottest air is above your knees
so now we got the coldest air coming out at the floor so as you're driving and the windows are open
the coldest air that your vehicles air conditioning system can create and you can test me on this
with a thermometer put it closest to the glove box vent when you if you want to test my my science
coldest air you will ever get out of your vehicles air conditioning system is the vent closest to the
glove box on low fan speed max ac and recirculate so you can test that and then test it your way
high fan speed max ac blowing out the dash putting your lips on the back of your head
or the back window you'll test it with that and see what the temperature is it'll blow your mind
because the science isn't wrong so we've got again we're going to recap real quick windows down
two inches all the way around max ac low fan speed hit the recirculate setting air is going to go to
your feet to the floor so set vents to the floor now get rolling as you're rolling what happens is
there's suction created through the windows being down so as the vehicle's moving
there's suction created so what's happening is the hot air is getting sucked out of the car very
very quickly and the cold air begins to rise up your legs that's why i'm saying you want to test
this theory do the science test properly you got to have shorts on no socks and you will feel that
cold air on your feet before you even get the vehicle rolling and as the vehicle's rolling you
will feel that cold air rising up to your leg up your legs up your knees and to your waist
and here's what we do as soon as we can feel that cold air on your torso close the windows
close the windows up and then just one tick on the fan speed just 11 tick so whatever that is
if you're if you've got five settings on your blower fan then be at number two so that's what
i'm going to tell you you're going to get to number two and leave it there and the windows
are closed now that car will cool down so fast you won't even imagine it that it works but it does
and that's how you work your vehicle's air conditioning system so you're not overworking it
but you're getting the maximum coolest temperature possible that that in-car refrigerator can create
absolutely it works like a stinking charm let me tell you i have a lot of vehicles around here
with air conditioning and that's the best way to do it one other tip get yourself a windshield
sunscreen if you were to step out to the parking lot in front of the studio shop today you would see
that the vehicles sitting in the driveway all have sunscreens in the windshield for a couple of
reasons it actually reduces of the inside car temperature up to 40 percent hello so go get
yourself one and buy a good one so once in a while you you can find good quality ones at the
dollar store but most of the time the the cheap ones don't get one of those get a really good one
and it'll stay with you for years i have sunscreens that are 10 years old and still work perfect and
are in great shape saves your dashboard as well because that heat causes the dashboards to dry out
and they split so it does a couple things park in the shade when you can and put your sunshade in
the windscreen and it will keep that car much cooler and it as well will get you cooled down
in a very short period of time it's worth it i don't usually have the vehicles windows tinted
legal legal tint because it really saves the interior of the automobile it's money well spent
it really really is so that's another way you can also keep your vehicle looking good inside
and also in the summer months really cool it off very very quickly so that is my secret
weapon on how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system how to get it working hard for you instead
of it working extra hard it'll get that those steps will get your vehicle cooled down and yourself
in no time flat so on monday monday coming i will now lead you through the steps to shutting that
air conditioning system down correctly which is going to save you thousands of dollars in air
conditioning repairs because if you've missed part one and part two you definitely need to go back
and collect those two podcasts you really really do when i have the the fj cruiser up and running
again which should be all we should be already and back on the road ready for the summer months
by monday skip i'm going to get skippy to video those steps that i just told you so we can get a
video up so you can see exactly how i'm doing it i will put my temperature gauge in the dash
so that you can see the readout and then we'll do it the other way around we'll do it the way
most of you are doing it and i will show you the temperature on your air conditioning system doing
it old school way which is bad habits that have been created by somebody now we got to turn it
around because they're not correct they're incorrect and that's what's going to cost you breakage
in your air conditioning system so on top of the best way to get your vehicle cooled down
add that together with part four which will teach you how to shut the system down properly
to prevent breakage and thousands of dollars in needless repairs on your air conditioning system
you're going to be top drawer all summer long so follow my lead if you're into saving money
you're on the on the right channel if you want to continue to do it your way then you know what
we're all entitled to our own way of thinking right a man convinced against his will will always be
of his own opinion still and i'm okay with that if you want to do it your way i'll just smile
and nod like we're in some foreign european country and i can't understand a word you're
saying i'll smile and nod and let you be right anytime i'm not into the drama i just say no to
drama if you want to be right i will let you just absolutely believe that you know everything
about nothing i will absolutely and smile so have yourself a fantastic weekend be safe out

Welcome back to vehicle AC tutorial Part 3! Today we're talking about how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system smarter, and put less strain on expensive AC components.
In this episode I walk you through the exact method I personally use during hot summer days:
✅ Crack the windows 2 inches all the way around
✅ Set the system to MAX AC
✅ Turn ON recirculate mode
✅ Use the LOWEST fan speed first
✅ Set air direction to FLOOR
✅ Let the hot escape while cold air rises naturally through the cabin
Once the cabin starts cooling from the legs upward, close the windows and increase the fan speed one notch. Simple tricks like this can dramatically improve cabin comfort while helping your AC system operate more efficiently.
