Air-conditioning tutorial Part 3 focuses on how drivers commonly use A/C the wrong way—and how to do it right to cool a hot cabin faster and avoid costly problems. The host explains why recirculation matters, gives a practical setup (windows cracked, max A/C, low fan, recirculate), and points out where the coldest air comes from. Sunshades are recommended to cut cabin heat before you run the system, and the host teases Part 4 on shutting A/C down correctly to prevent damage.
Welcome back to vehicle AC tutorial Part 3! Today we're talking about how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system smarter, and put less strain on expensive AC components.
In this episode I walk you through the exact method I personally use during hot summer days:
✅ Crack the windows 2 inches all the way around
✅ Set the system to MAX AC
✅ Turn ON recirculate mode
✅ Use the LOWEST fan speed first
✅ Set air direction to FLOOR
✅ Let the hot escape while cold air rises naturally through the cabin
Once the cabin starts cooling from the legs upward, close the windows and increase the fan speed one notch. Simple tricks like this can dramatically improve cabin comfort while helping your AC system operate more efficiently.
I also share bonus tips on:
🔆 Windshield sunshades
🔆 window tinting within legal limits
🔆 Protecting dashboards and interiors from heat damage
🔆 Reducing cabin temperatures by up to 25-40%
If you've ever wondered why your car takes forever to cool down in summer heat, this tutorial is for you.

"you're going to turn the fan on the blower fan to low speed low fan speed not high blast... no low speed stay with me so all windows down two inches fan motor and low speed"
The blower fan is the fan that moves air through the heating/cooling system. Changing its speed changes how strongly air is pushed into the cabin.
The blower fan is the fan that pushes air through the HVAC system and into the cabin. Setting it to a lower speed changes airflow volume and can help the A/C cool more effectively without blasting air too aggressively.
"low speed max ac got it okay so let me recap four windows down or two windows down if it's a two-door... two inches low fan speed max air conditioning don't forget to hit the recirculate setting"
“Max A/C” is the setting meant to cool the car as hard and as fast as possible. It usually forces the system to run in its strongest cooling mode.
“Max A/C” is the HVAC mode that prioritizes the strongest cooling the system can provide. It typically combines the A/C compressor engagement with the most aggressive airflow and temperature settings to cool the cabin quickly.
"two inches low fan speed max air conditioning don't forget to hit the recirculate setting all right and then you're going to set the air to blow at your feet... if you don't hit the recirculate button here's what you're doing you're trying to cool down the planet from the outside"
Recirculate means your car reuses the already-cooled air inside instead of sucking in hot outside air. It helps the A/C cool the cabin quicker.
The recirculate setting tells the HVAC system to reuse the air already inside the cabin instead of pulling in outside air. That matters because outside air is often hot, so recirculating helps the A/C cool the cabin faster and more efficiently.
"you're going to set the air to blow at your feet not in the center of the dash not on defrost to your feet okay again windows down two inches low fan speed max ac is the setting"
Defrost is the setting that blows air toward the windshield to clear it. It’s not the best choice if your goal is to cool the cabin.
Defrost is an HVAC mode that directs airflow toward the windshield (and sometimes side windows) to clear fog or ice. Using defrost instead of cabin cooling can reduce how effectively the A/C cools the passenger area.
"low fan speed max ac hit the recirculate button setting make sure that's on ... you've got the vents and you've got recirculate recirculate on"
The recirculate button tells your A/C to reuse the air already inside the car. That usually helps it cool faster because it avoids bringing in more hot air from outside.
The recirculate button switches the HVAC system from pulling outside air to reusing cabin air. That can speed up cooling because the system doesn’t have to cool incoming hot, humid air.
"low fan speed max ac hit the recirculate button setting make sure that's on ... you've got the windows are down max ac fans on low speed"
“Max A/C” is a vehicle HVAC mode that prioritizes the strongest cooling output by commanding the A/C compressor and airflow settings for maximum temperature drop. It’s often paired with recirculation to reduce the heat load from outside air.
"okay now you're gonna you're gonna drive and here's how this is gonna work it's called capillary action and when i first learned about how to do this properly i poo pooed it"
Capillary action is a physical effect that helps liquid move through tiny tubes. In an A/C system, that movement is part of how the refrigerant gets where it needs to go to cool the cabin.
Capillary action is the way liquid refrigerant moves through small passages in the air-conditioning system. In practice, it helps explain why the system can cool effectively when you set the HVAC controls a certain way.
"you've got the vents and you've got recirculate recirculate on and you've got the vents set to the floor to your feet"
When you set the vents to the floor, the A/C blows mostly toward your feet. That changes where the cool air goes first, which can affect how the cooling feels.
Setting the vents to the floor directs airflow toward the cabin’s lower area, which can change how quickly occupants feel cooling. It also affects cabin airflow patterns, which can matter during A/C performance tests.
"one other tip get yourself a windshield sunscreen if you were to step out to the parking lot in front of the studio shop today you would see
[1851.2s] that the vehicles sitting in the driveway all have sunscreens in the windshield for a couple of
[1856.9s] reasons it actually reduces of the inside car temperature up to 40 percent"
A windshield sunshade is a cover you put on your windshield to block the sun. It keeps the car from getting as hot, and it can help protect the dashboard from sun damage.
A windshield sunshade (often called a windshield sunscreen) is a reflective cover placed in front of or inside the windshield to block solar heat. By reducing heat soak, it lowers cabin temperatures and helps protect interior materials like the dashboard.
"so that is my secret
[1936.0s] weapon on how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system how to get it working hard for you instead
[1942.7s] of it working extra hard it'll get that those steps will get your vehicle cooled down and yourself
[1950.8s] in no time flat so on monday monday coming i will now lead you through the steps to shutting that"
Your car’s air conditioning system cools the inside of the car. The host is saying using it the right way can cool you down faster and may help prevent expensive problems.
The air conditioning system is the vehicle’s climate system that cools and dehumidifies cabin air. The host is emphasizing correct usage—getting the cabin cool efficiently and then shutting it down properly to avoid unnecessary strain and repair costs.
"when i have the the fj cruiser up and running
[1981.4s] again which should be all we should be already and back on the road ready for the summer months"
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a rugged SUV. In this segment, it’s just the example vehicle the host uses while explaining the air-conditioning steps.
The Toyota FJ Cruiser is a rugged, off-road-oriented SUV known for its boxy styling and body-on-frame construction. Here it’s referenced as the host’s current vehicle example while discussing how they’ll demonstrate air-conditioning steps.

Good morning Niagara! You're tuned to Car Connection where the coffee's hot.
Tools are ready, talk is always tuned up, and I'm your host Nile MotorMouth.
Jenkins coming to you straight from the Car Connection workshop, where we mix a
little humor, a little know-how, and a whole lot of horsepower. Here it's not
just about fixing cars, it's about keeping you rolling and saving you money,
giving you the confidence to understand what's under that hood. From the
classics to the commuters, the weird noises, and those what the heck moments.
We've got you covered, so grab your coffee, sit back, join the crew, because
this is Car Connection, your Monday through Saturday morning pit stop for
story smarts, a few good laps, and I'm Nile MotorMouth Jenkins, and we're
shifting into drive this morning. Yes we are, we got this thing locked and ready
to do business, so if you're just sliding through the drive-through, get your
order put together, double-check it, because it is, it's Fun Friday, but we're
doing a little bit different Fun Friday, okay? We're going to cover the next part
in our AC tutorial, part three, and today we're going to be talking about five
things on how to use your vehicle's air conditioning system properly, and you may
know, or you may not know, and some of you know, and some of you may not know,
and some of you I might know, and some of them of you I might not know. Okay, let's
move on. Let's get into our our morning beverage, which we count down, we have a
morning swiggy together. If you're joining us for the first time, a couple of
quick housekeeping tips in the Car Connection workshop, okay? Let's cover it.
Number one, have your beverage ready, your morning beverage, whatever that is,
you're going through the drive-through, double-check it, lock it down, because it
is Fun Friday and heading into the weekend. Orders can be misplaced or
miscommunicated, so let's take care of that. You need a 16 pack of Crayola
crayons and a freshly pressed leaf bag, that is our Car Connection official
workshop laptop, so you can take notes. If you have a passenger, they can take
notes and you can say, now write that down. Did you get that? You missed that?
Oh, okay, don't worry. If you, you listen to the podcast, you can always listen and
re-listen, and we've made it easy for you. All our podcasts export over to our
YouTube channel, which is Nile Motormouth Jenkins, but we make it even easier for
you there. The homepage of our website is the biggest drawer in our toolbox for
you to connect with us. All our platforms that we're involved in, our YouTube
channel, Instagram, Facebook, Stevensvilleontheweb.ca, we are automotive
expert there. We put up articles and bloopers. Our videographer Skippy put
that website together years ago to kind of marry the local businesses to the
community and vice versa. So I think it's fabulous. They get a lot of traction
on that website. So Skippy decided to put us there, and so I was
voluntold to do that. So I said, yes, let's do it. And you'll also find our
iHeart radio icon, as well as our online store, where you can buy Car Connection,
Motormouth merch, all the proceeds from any purchase in our online store. You
order it, pick your color, pick whatever article it is that you'd like to have
it get shipped right to your door. You pay for it safely online, and that is all
managed by one of the businesses that operates out of one of the
Total Freedom Addiction Centers in Darien Center, New York. Freedom Expressions
manages our store, puts it together, makes the products on site. So it only suited
for us to say, whatever we sell, we'd like you to take the proceeds and help
those who are struggling with addiction that have made that decision to say
goodbye to that addiction, to that addiction. Thank you very much. Good
thing it's Fun Friday. So when that person's ready, we want to make sure
we're ready to help them to get there. So grab some gear, come along with the
crew and be a part of standing up together and helping those who need to
deal with an addiction. So thank you so much to all of you that are doing that.
If you'd like to support our YouTube channel and or our podcast, you can do
that very simply because Skippy told me to put together a Buy Me a Coffee page,
and we did. I mean, I did, and then I told her I did it, and she would say,
that's good. Very good, MotorMouth. So you can go to BuyMeacoffee.com forward
slash motormouth Nile, N-I-L-E, any donation to be appreciated very, very
much. So thank you from Skippy and I for taking the moment to do that. All this
information I always put in the description of our YouTube videos as
well as our podcasts. All our program partners and recommended businesses are
also available to you just to click away on the home page of our website. Find
their logo, click, it will take you to a profile page on our site. All the pages
are set up exactly the same way for ease of navigation. We have a full page now
set up for our car connection fleet maintenance schedule. So you can look at
it, see what it's all about. There's a beautiful right up there, and you can
also order online. We don't have the fleet maintenance schedule up on our
store because of demographics. That's, yeah, it just doesn't work. We're not
able to figure that out yet how we can do that. But on the profile page for the
car connection fleet maintenance system, you can pull down an order form, fill it
out and just send it right off to us and we'll ship that out to you directly
from the car connection studio. So that's pretty much the housekeeping if
you've been with us before or not. That's how we do it here. So we're gonna do the
very first thing is let's have our morning swiggy together and let's say
thank you to all of our program partners that make this program available to you
as well as our YouTube channel. And we're just about at 500 subscribers. We're
down to about 91% of you are really enjoying the videos, but you're not
subscribed. So if you do us a skippy and I a huge favor and help us to grow the
channel so we can get monetized so that you know what then we can pay the bills
completely. And we have money to invest in bringing you more and more quality
videos as well as being able to pay for parts and help those who need a hand up
widows, orphans, single moms. Those are just hit some heavy-duty hard time. So it
works for everybody. So if you just make sure you're subscribed, like, share, follow,
subscribe, most importantly, and hit the notification bell so that you don't miss
when we launch new videos each and every week. So you'll get a notification and
thank you for that. You can also follow us on Instagram and Facebook as well. So
everything for you to connect and everything that you need to do so is on
our website, carconnectionbusinessnetwork.com, CCBUS and SamNET.com. So thank
you to Crystal Ridge Dream Center serving men and women and children, meals, love
and hope. They're changing lives one at a time in the Niagara region. So anything
you can do to help them will be appreciated. They get no outside resources
from government programs they've tried before and it's just it's not going to
work. So they're a non-profit faith-based organization that is feeding over 200
people on Tuesdays and Fridays out the door, hot meals. So anything you can do
or whatever is laid on your heart would be appreciated. Thanks to Earl Louise
