A battery electric vehicle is an EV that only uses electricity from a battery. You charge it like a phone—plug it in—rather than buying fuel at a gas station.
The Zeekr 7X is an electric car. The podcast is talking about it because it’s selling well recently. That makes it relevant to discussions about how EVs are becoming more popular.
Front-wheel drive means the front wheels do the work of moving the car and steering it. It’s a common layout that can make the car simpler and efficient.
LFP is a type of EV battery. It’s generally known for being sturdy and cost-effective, but it can change how efficiently the car uses energy day to day.
One-pedal driving is when you can slow down mostly by lifting off the accelerator. If a car doesn’t do this, you’ll usually need the brake pedal more often to control speed.
The Chevrolet C10 is a pickup truck. It’s known as a classic model that many people recognize. It may be mentioned because it’s a well-known truck name in the pickup world.
ANCAP ratings are crash-test safety scores for cars in Australia and New Zealand. The host is saying MG used to score very poorly on some gas cars, but they think the EVs are safer.
“Zero-star ANCAP” means the car did extremely poorly in safety testing. The host is using it to explain why people might be skeptical of MG, even though they think the EVs are a different story.
“ICE cars” means regular gas or diesel cars (not electric). The host is saying MG’s older gas cars had safety issues, but their electric cars may be different.
The Audi S6 is a luxury sedan with a sportier setup than the regular model. It’s designed to be comfortable but also feel more powerful to drive. It comes up when people discuss premium cars that are larger and more performance-oriented.
The Alpina B10 is a high-performance version of a BMW-style car. It’s made to feel faster and more special than a standard model, while still being comfortable. It’s mentioned because the hosts have experience driving it before.
The Subaru Trailseeker is a Subaru car meant for people who want to go on trips and handle rougher roads. The hosts haven’t driven it yet, so they’re likely talking about what it could be like. It’s part of their lineup of cars to review.
CATL is a company that makes EV batteries. If a car uses CATL batteries, it can help the car cost less because CATL makes batteries at huge scale.
Car
Cadillac Lyric
Cadillac Lyriq is a bigger Cadillac electric vehicle. The hosts mention it because they’re comparing it to the smaller OPTIQ and talking about how the two fit in Cadillac’s EV range.
Cadillac OPTIQ is Cadillac’s smaller electric vehicle. In this discussion, the hosts are talking about how it stacks up on price and what it’s like to live with as a luxury EV.
In Australia, there’s a tax rule where expensive cars can be hit with extra tax. This segment says the Cadillac is priced just under that cutoff, so it may avoid the worst of the extra tax.
A novated lease is a leasing setup used in Australia where your employer can take over parts of the lease arrangement. People use it to potentially manage the costs of a car through their work benefits, if they qualify.
The Polestar 3 is an all-electric SUV from Polestar. The hosts are talking about how expensive it is in Australia and whether the screen/tech and sound system are worth it.
“Drive away” pricing is an Australian buying term meaning the total cost to purchase the car and have it ready to drive, typically including on-road costs like registration and stamp duty. The hosts use it to compare how expensive the Polestar 3 is in real, all-in terms.
The Polestar 4 is an electric car from Polestar with a more “coupe-like” shape than the Polestar 3. The hosts say it might be the one to choose if you want a sleeker look and potentially a better price.
An infotainment system is the car’s integrated touchscreen and software that handles things like navigation, media, phone connections, and vehicle settings. The hosts are specifically criticizing the Polestar experience as “a little bit frustrating” based on their memory of how it worked.
The Google Android Automotive system refers to Google’s in-car operating platform that runs apps and services directly in the vehicle. In this segment, the hosts connect it to having Google Maps available in the Polestar, which can make navigation feel more familiar.
“Neue Klasse” (German for “New Class”) is BMW’s next-generation EV platform strategy, aimed at improving efficiency, software integration, and overall vehicle packaging. The hosts frame the BMW ix3 as part of this shift, implying a meaningful change in how BMW’s EVs are built and will behave.
“Battery size” and “range” are key EV metrics used to compare vehicles. Battery size relates to how much energy the car can store, while range is how far it can typically travel on that energy under stated conditions.
Climate control in a vehicle refers to the system that manages cabin temperature and airflow (often including separate zones). The hosts connect it to the DPL E07’s rear area, implying the back can be used more comfortably for passengers or cargo-related use.
The Porsche Taycan is an electric car made for performance. It’s designed to feel quick and sporty, not just efficient. That’s why it’s a common choice when people want to talk about what EVs can do at the high end.
The Toyota bZ4X is an electric SUV. It’s made to be a practical EV option for people who want an SUV shape. It comes up when comparing which EVs are similar in size and purpose.
The Subaru Uncharted is a Subaru car model the hosts saw recently at a showroom in Sydney. They’re mentioning it as something they looked at, even if they don’t go into details right now. It’s basically a “we checked it out” reference for listeners.
The Toyota C-HR is a small SUV-style car. It’s designed for everyday driving and has a distinctive look. It’s mentioned because an electric model is being compared to it in size and concept.
74.7 kilowatt-hour is how big the EV’s battery is—basically how much energy it can hold. A bigger battery usually helps with range, and the hosts mention it to explain why the car can be priced competitively.
The Nissan Ariya is an electric SUV-style car. The podcast mentions it as an older EV option compared with newer arrivals. It’s brought up to help compare what’s available now versus earlier EV models.
The Kia EV5 is an electric Kia SUV/crossover. The “Earth” version is meant to be cheaper, but the host warns that cheaper trims often remove features—so you have to check what you’re actually getting.
A 360 camera shows a bird’s-eye view of the car using cameras around it. It helps with parking and tight spots, and in this segment it’s mentioned as a feature that may disappear on cheaper trims.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is an electric Hyundai SUV/crossover. The host is comparing prices and says the cheapest all-wheel-drive version they found in Australia is around the figure they mention, which makes it a useful reference point for shopping.
Car
BYD EVO
BYD’s EVO is being positioned as a step up from the current BYD model the host references, with the new version expected to offer both rear-drive and all-wheel-drive variants. The host also calls out an LFP battery and a 75 kWh capacity, framing it as a potential “winner” based on expected real-world usability and value.
The Dodge Avenger is a car model that was sold as a regular sedan. It’s being mentioned because it received certain ratings or recognition. The conversation is likely about how it compared to other cars on those measures.
The Jeep Avenger is mentioned as an example of an EV that didn’t score as highly in safety testing. The host says it got three stars, which they treat as unusually low compared with other EVs.
In ANCAP testing, they score how well a car protects adults and how well it protects children. That means the car might do better for one group than the other.
The Tesla Model Y is a popular electric SUV/crossover. The hosts say it sells so well because Tesla keeps improving it, and it’s easy to use, but it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay like many other cars do.
The “Tesla ecosystem” is Tesla’s own set of apps and systems inside the car. It can be really easy to use, but it also means you may not be able to use your phone the same way you can in other cars.
Apple CarPlay is a smartphone-integration system that lets you use an iPhone’s apps and navigation through the car’s infotainment screen. The hosts mention its absence as a key downside versus many non-Tesla EVs, because it affects how easily you can use your phone’s apps in the car.
“Century mode” is a Tesla feature that can save short video clips when something interesting happens. The hosts are saying the camera system is set up with that feature in mind, which affects how the camera views feel for parking.
Parallel parking is the maneuver where you park alongside the street between two cars. The hosts are using it as an example of when camera placement matters.
X-Ping is a car brand that also focuses on its own computer/AI hardware. The point they’re making is that the car understands voice commands better than some other cars they’ve tried.
This means the back wheels can steer independently from the front wheels. That helps the car turn much more tightly, which makes parking and slow maneuvers easier.
Car
DPAL SO7
They’re talking about the DPAL SO7, an electric car they think is a good deal. They say it has a big 80 kWh battery, but charging isn’t as fast as some competitors and fewer people recognize the brand.
A “promotional special” is a deal or discount that’s being offered to lower the price for a limited time. The hosts are saying the SO7’s low price is part of a push to sell more cars.
Chang'an is the bigger parent company behind the DPAL brand. The hosts are saying that even if the parent is well-known in China, the DPAL name is still relatively unknown in Australia.
A “range extended” EV is designed to go farther than a normal battery-only EV. It usually adds an extra way to make electricity when the battery gets low.
The Dodge Charger is a sporty car that’s usually built for strong acceleration and a loud, exciting feel. It’s known for being a classic performance model. It may be mentioned simply because it’s a well-known car name.
ADAS means driver-assist tech. It’s the set of safety features that can help with things like staying in the lane or braking automatically, and the hosts say some of it on the Leapmotor B10 can be turned off.
The BMW X5 is a luxury SUV. It’s designed to be comfortable and easy to drive, especially on longer trips. People talk about it because it’s a popular reference point when comparing ride comfort and handling.
They mention the BYD blade battery, which is a type of EV battery design. The idea is that it’s built in a “blade” shape, and it’s something people look for because it can affect how the battery is packaged and how the car is engineered around it.
The Audi S5 is a sporty version of an Audi car. It’s meant to drive more enthusiast-style than a regular model. It’s mentioned when people are talking about choosing a smaller premium performance car.
A heat pump is how an EV warms the cabin and battery. It’s usually more efficient than basic electric heaters, so it can help the car go farther, especially in cold weather.
The GWM Aura 5 is a newer car model that’s trying to compete in the EV market. The podcast mentions it because it’s getting noticed among other options. It’s part of the growing list of EVs people can choose from.
The Range Rover is a large luxury SUV. It’s made for people who want a comfortable, premium vehicle that can also handle rougher roads. It’s mentioned because it’s a well-known high-end model.
After-sales service is the help you get after you buy the car, like servicing and repairs. The host is implying that having a strong service setup makes EV ownership less stressful.
Car
mg4 rear wheel drive
They’re talking about the MG4, but specifically the rear-wheel-drive version. They’re waiting to get one to review, because the way power is sent to the wheels can make the car drive differently.
They mention the Renault Scenic E-Tech and say there’s been a price cut before the next versions arrive. That can be a good time to buy if you don’t mind getting the outgoing model.
The “#1” is a model from the smart brand that the podcast has talked about before. It’s mentioned alongside other small EVs. The point is to keep track of which cars have already been covered.
The MINI Aceman is a small electric crossover-style car. The podcast mentions it because they covered it before and are comparing it with other small EVs. It’s part of the discussion about what’s available in the compact EV category.
The D9 is a large electric vehicle. The podcast notes it’s about 5.2 meters long and uses an LFP battery type. That matters because battery choice can affect how the car behaves and how it’s used day to day.
Kilowatt-hours (kWh) tell you how big the car’s battery is. More kWh usually means you can go farther before needing to recharge, and they’re saying 103 kWh is a very large battery.
The Kia EV 9 is a big electric SUV with room for more than just two people. Here, they’re basically saying it’s worth shopping around and trying to negotiate the price.
The Zeekr 009 is an electric vehicle. The podcast says it’s all-wheel drive, which means it can send power to more than one set of wheels for better traction. It’s mentioned because it impressed the hosts when they drove it.
The Kia EV4 is an electric car. The podcast talks about how it drives and how people react to its looks, and it also mentions a price range. It’s included because it’s trying to attract buyers in the EV market.
The Tesla Model 3 is a popular electric car. In this part of the discussion, it’s the reference point the host uses when talking about other EV options.
The MG Cyberster is an electric sports car that’s designed to be fun, including in an open-top style. The host is using it as an example of EVs that feel more like a car you’d enjoy driving.
Term
best times
They’re talking about the car keeping track of your fastest laps or runs. The host says it can store timing info for specific tracks that are already set up in the system.
“Drift settings” refer to configurable vehicle behavior intended to help the car rotate and maintain a controlled slide. When the host says “optimal drift settings” and that the system is “granular,” they’re describing a track-oriented feature that lets the driver tune how the car responds during drifting.
They’re saying fewer people are buying diesel cars. The idea is that moving away from diesel helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels, especially as EVs grow.
LIVE
Hey everyone, I'm Tom, this is Joy and welcome to our monthly summary of EV sales
here in Australia and also a rundown of the I guess my got trends month by month
and today we're covering the month of May 2026 it's now the 7th of June so we've
got figures from May in and according to the driven article written by a good
friend Riz who joins us on the live stream every week EV sales have hit
record 20% share in May which is a new Australian record for battery electric
vehicles that's pure 100% battery electric vehicles and that's on the back
oh I guess just general slumping car sales which is not surprising given the
way the world is right now as people jump on to EVs there's been a sharp drop
in diesel vehicles again not surprising given the the cost and also the
scarcity in diesel we've got drop in diesel use SUV sales but
EVs have benefited of course and let's have a look at the best-selling cars for
EVs in 2020 in May 2026 Tesla Model Y five and a half thousand sales and
interestingly that is the first time an EV has taken out the title of the best
selling vehicle regardless of any powertrain in Australia that's pretty
phenomenal that's a huge milestone so five and a half thousand sales Tesla
Model Y way out ahead of EVs and cars in general in Australia for May followed
by a motor JQJ5 that's done well as well just on the back of lots of orders in
the first half of 2026 and there's sort of discounted price that they've got
going at the moment as well GLEX 5 doing well as as as usual this is the
second month of that very good month of sales BYDC line 7 always going strong
BYD brand correct Zika 7X second month in a row they've had a thousand sales of
cars in Australia which is great Tesla Model 3 doing well we'll talk about
these cars of course in more detail as we go through our spreadsheet and then
the whole run of BYD's they add oh two out of one out of three seal all selling
well at the moment I think the other thing to note is that to make this list
you need hundreds of sales where else I think obviously previous because now you
know if if battery electric vehicles make up 20% of the market it's actually a
lot harder to make this list isn't it because suddenly all those cars that
were maybe making like a couple of hundred sales or you know even in this
sort of like double digits might have made this list before and they're not
anymore so that's something to take into account so just because you don't see a
particular car on this list doesn't mean that it's you know not a popular car
by any means yep the brands have to work a lot harder the bar is now higher which
is great great for EV sales and then MG4 which is covering both MG4 EV
Urban and the I guess the outgoing MG4 and the Kia EV3 making up the top 12 in
this list I don't think it's outgoing they're kind of like going parallel yeah
well as in the old MG4 but then we've got the new MG4 real drive it's like it's
confusing I know there's an MG4 EV Urban which is the front wheel drive and then
the outgoing real drive to make way for the incoming real drive anyway it is
confusing but it's MG4 they've not delineated which one is selling better
than the other so I assume there's a lot of MG4 EV Urban selling just from the
fact that it's a newer car probably yep all right which brings us to our list
this is a ludicrous feed spreadsheet which we're happy to share with everyone
so link in the video description below as always so happy to follow along as
we as we show this list it's on the screen as you see it but as updates
happen the master spreadsheet may change so you always refer to the master
spreadsheet for the most up-to-date information so let's start with the
first category which is the all-wheel drive SUV this is any all-wheel drive SUV
electric over 4.7 meters okay so in this list we've got some very
good offerings here so we've got the Zika 7x still with a price of under 80
grand driveway in New South Wales or thereabouts that is still a very good car
in my opinion if you're going to buy a 7x I think that's probably very good value
all-wheel drive and then the Tesla Model Y performance that's probably in my
opinion slightly overpriced at the moment almost a 100000 dollars
drive away in New South Wales I think it's got the European build premium price
tag so that's the reason for it yeah it's the unusual one in that it's the
only Tesla built outside of China as in you know in Berlin Gigafactory as I said
but yeah it's probably just a bit overpriced for what it is you know
hopefully they bring one from Shanghai and then that'll drop the price down for
the Model Y performance we'll see still a very good car though to drive obviously
it's fun but it's it's hard to justify I think unless you're sort of if you drive
every day I think and you just want to enjoy your drive all the time then of
course it's a fun car to drive but it's yeah I mean do you really need an all-wheel
drive performance no but is it fun to drive yes so yeah I mean it's it's your
money do what you want with your money to be fair you probably don't need all
drive too much of this entire category is already kind of like you know do you
really need it most of the time no but they're awfully fun to drive so fun
yeah and in the wet it's even more fun as in it feels a lot more grippier yes
like um there's just I don't know whether it's even mostly psychological you just
feel like the car is just a bit more sure for planted on the road yeah it
feels like you're going to plane too easily yeah and you can kind of take
corners like in the rain normally you would really dial it right back down if
you're like you know taking a corner anything like that but you don't have
to dial it down nearly as much if you're in one of these cars if you want to all
drive on a wide you've got the Model Y long range and then obviously we've just
bought the Model Y L which is all drive technically this has got six seats right
so probably we'll talk about 67 cedars later on but it's a very good
value six cedar yep but you want to see line seven is still probably one of the
cheapest yeah I mean I was gonna say it it's crown has been taken from it by two
other two other models now so now it's number three on the list of pricing yeah
that's right and possibly even forward because I am six all drive on also that's
80 grand I apologize no I am six is 80 grand but you're right by DC line seven
68 grand still very good car if you want an LFP all drive then that you know by
the sea line seven is very good for that reason still got a pretty big battery
82 kilowatt hours and yeah a pretty good family car in general although the range
you get with that bigger battery may not be as big as you think because it
tends to be a bit thirsty at the BYDs this is true and it's a heavy car as well
being an LFP so I am six as I said 80 grand so I thought it's a 60 grand that
I know the real drivers it's 60 grand so but the all drivers 80 grand drive away
that's a big car 4.9 meters doesn't have one pedal driving just keep that in
mind but it does have air suspension this vehicle and then we get to some of the
other vehicles like the MGS6 the newcomer yeah this is this is okay I'm
gonna say this is the car I would be recommending for a family SUV that's
over 4.7 meters and all drive in this price bracket right something that's
56,990 at the moment drive away that's a crazy asking price and I know like some
people are gonna go oh what about the Leapmotor C10 Sport but we haven't driven
that yet so we can't you know recommend a car that we haven't personally like
seen like I don't think that's sort of fair but we would love to you know
compare that and being that and then we'd be able to tell you you know which
one of the two or both of course yeah yeah but wow we were really impressed by
so impressed seriously I I mean we love our MGS5 we know the MGS drive well the
EVs anyway so I was you know I'm so impressed with the all-wheel drive
factor in the rain for that price and I've come a long way with the MG brand
because like if you guys sort of follow the channel you know I I'm a I have a
thing about Ancap ratings and I know MG is infamous for its zero-star Ancap in
one of its ice cars so I've had to come from kind of like whoa zero-star Ancap
MG to going hey their EVs are actually kind of like a completely different
stream from their ice cars so if you kind of think of like an MG EV as being
almost like a separate brand to what I have this mental image of their ice
vehicles you know don't discount MG because you haven't like a mental picture
of what you think their safety or whatever might might be like yeah and
their drive well they're honestly one of the best driving vehicles out there
honestly I guess the only downside is that it's NMC but then again NMC means
it's a it's a light you know it's a denser battery which means you can fit
more into the battery pack for the same weight right so 77 kilowatt hour NMC is
not a bad thing I think compared to LFP it's a it's a lighter battery for the
equivalent range so yeah definitely check out our review of the S6 we
certainly enjoyed that yep as joy see the Leapmotor C10 sports plus is another
one I'm looking forward to driving we haven't got that yet I have been
chasing Leapmotor and MSR so that is coming on the channel probably in the
next few weeks possibly next couple of months so stay tuned we definitely want
to review that one because that seems to be pretty good value as well and I was
gonna say like sensibly priced family cars is what gets me excited definitely
and that's LFP as well so that could be interesting just based on the past
experience we'll talk about the B10 and the C10 previous from our previous
drive experience later on as well and then we get to some of the Japanese
brands okay so we've got Subaru Trailseeker which we haven't driven yet
that is potentially coming on the channel as well for review that can
potentially go properly off-road so I'm curious to see how that drives Subaru
Saltero we've driven as well again you know like the BZ Forex it's twin there
how can I say this they're very utilitarian in their design but for a
Japanese brand that people trust it's not a bad offering yeah yeah I mean the
like you got to kind of understand that like a Japanese interior of a car is
not going to look like the Chinese interior of a car like the kind of like
the aim is different isn't it like the aim of the interior of Japanese car is
for everything to function really well and probably to take a bit of a beating
as well like I feel like it's like it's designed to like you don't have to kind
of fuss over it you know and all like be gentle or careful with it you can kind of
just treat it really harshly like I feel that that's kind of what it's like kind
of more rugged isn't it it's meant to stand up to people using their car like
a back and over well yeah yeah but as in like you know if you don't want to have
to baby your car and be like I need to polish this or I've got to like clean
this bit and like watch out for the screen like I know there are people like
that they don't want to treat their car like that they want to be able to treat
their car like a like a you know like a workhorse that's fair yeah and also I
guess the Japanese brands in toad particularly tired obviously it's such a
well-known brand right people want to buy a brand they know they've they know
and they've heard of and they it's probably gonna be around reasonably
long time right so where some of the Chinese brands you might be a bit I
guess you might be curious as to whether they will last the distance but you
know total be possibly be around longer so well at least it'll be around just to
put it lightly so yeah we'll see and then and also the fact that they're
reasonably priced reasonably well now compared to the previous generation yes
like there's still a Japanese premium but I think it's not as sort of crazy as
it used to be yeah and so I think it's at a price where I think it's reasonable
that people would pay that extra premium for a Japanese car and of course there'll
be people out there who are like oh why would you pay a premium but as you just
said with you know like reliability there's a legacy brand you know they've
been been around I think they they they get to charge that because you know
they've done the hard yards yeah people pay it because they you know they want
that trust in Australia that's very enough and I think it's cheaper too
because they've they've chosen to go with a CATL battery now which is a Chinese
brand so that's definitely bring the cost down and it's better take let's face it
CATL so and then the Cadillac so we just recently drove the OPTIQ and the
the Lyric we've driven before optics like the baby sibling of the Lyric just a
slightly smaller vehicle and the price is yes more expensive than the Chinese
offerings but you know for a luxury brand it's actually if you think luxury
terms and obviously a legacy brand like Cadillac it's not too bad actually I
know and it actually falls I believe falls under the luxury car tax threshold
still you get you get a luxury car but just under the luxury car and you can
novate lease as well if you want you know because under the luxury car tax for
now anyway yeah yeah I mean I was actually pretty impressed with it like I
thought like it it sort of fulfills what it's trying to do I think so yeah I was
like okay yep and we get to the Polestar 4 and 3 they're still quite
expensive particularly the Polestar 3 it's close to $160,000 drive away which is
quite expensive for what it is the four I still like and you know that's not too
bad I'm not under a grand I would probably prefer the four because it's
like a sleeker looking coupé car whereas the three is kind of a boxy SUV yeah I
feel like everyone is always looking for a second hand Polestar because no one
wants to pay the kind of full price for it but they feel like I can get one
second hand and that would actually be a really good deal the the tech is like
the infotainment system is a little bit frustrating from from memory like it
wasn't great but the sound system is excellent yeah yeah they're starting to
use the Google Android automotive system so at least it's a Google Maps system so
but yeah if you've got the cash just flashed and just bells all the bells
and whistles of the Polestar 3 and 4 then it is a very nice drive they look
amazing yeah next one is the BMW ix3 50x drive that's the new Neue
class BMW and we will hopefully be able to test drive that reveal for you guys
soon you are paying top dollar of course but it is a BMW and it's a new
generation of EVs so we'll see how that goes on the road and then finally I just
this is not in any particular order by the way just I don't know why DPL E07
is down the bottom but it's I don't know you can that's the beauty of the master
spreadsheet you can go in there and just fit it with the data and like by price
or by battery size or range whatever but this is just a random order I've got
I mean DPL E07 which is the multi truck it looks like a Ute SUV so
it's quite a versatile vehicle it's a very unique kind of car yeah yeah 80
grand it's not too bad if you've got the specific use case for this kind of
vehicle yeah and I think we kept saying that if you need to be able to put stuff
in the back that's kind of climate control as opposed to why you need kind
of like a Ute that's not quite a Ute that's like a covered Ute so this this
would make sense for you look there are a lot more there are a few more all drive
EVs you know obviously in this segment but we haven't test driven all of them
like the Mercedes that out the Audi's so we're not going to comment on them
because we haven't really seen them so if you know if they by chance ever loan us
a vehicle if Porsche Taycan pops up on how loan this we're happy to put them on
but we just haven't driven these cars yet so we're not going to discuss them
too much okay and if we see them at a show of course we'll do a walk around
yep alright next category is all drives under 4.7 meters so these are the
small as all drives and again a Salterra and the BZ4X feature because
they're kind of on the borderline of this number so we won't talk about them
again but otherwise Subaru Uncharted we looked at that recently in Sydney at a
showroom looks quite promising looks better than the Salterra in my opinion
like a sporty kind of look is it's better isn't it yeah yeah didn't have that
enormous black yep yeah we're like yeah yeah looks like a traditional
Subaru which I guess some people like it I think it's meant to be the twin of the
Toyota CHR which obviously is not in Australia the electric CHR so we'll
keep an eye on that one if ever comes to Australia again it's got a CATL
battery 74.7 kilowatt hour so again the prices kept low because of the Chinese
battery in this category with the Nissan Aria e-force this is a very old car
now this is four years old so I think we had that on loan late last year so check
out that video too asking 78 grand it is quite a hefty price for what it is for
an older car yeah because when you look at the interior of it and just the whole
car in general it it seems like the cars like of yesteryear isn't it like as you
say a couple of generations ago so it seems like you're paying a premium new
car price for something that feels like you should be able to get a second hand
for a lot cheaper so yeah that's that's the kind of issue with the Nissan it is
a Japanese car battery and vehicle but I wouldn't I would want a huge discount
if I was really wanted to take an all-dry Nissan Aria so I'd want it to be
knocked off by 10 to 20 grand possibly more for that kind of tech just being
honest to you the Kia EV5 Earth that's not a bad car Chinese battery so prices
kept down there's a promotion of the woman 65 grand for that vehicle the key
with the thing with the Kia's is that the the top specs get all the trims but
then if you drop down a few trims that you lose things like 360 camera you know
even the in the earth trim so it's just be wary when you buy Kia they tend to
like there's a huge gradation between each variant yeah yeah I guess with the
EV5's it's more kind of like you really have to specifically go into your local
dealer and see what they've got there and then kind of like bargain with them
isn't it for kind of like what what's actually available and I think if you
can do that and get a really good deal then yeah and then you'd be you'd be a
happy camper yeah 65 grand drive away at the moment yep it's not bad Cooper
Tavis can be there now you like this car I do except for the full-style
and cap rating oh yes right yeah 80 grand it is asking a lot it's got a Chinese
battery drives very well but it's stuck with the VW tech unfortunately yeah try
and bargain that down I reckon just because I think it's is it connected
another VW ID for doesn't have connectivity yet have to check on the
Cooper whether they have connectivity at this point now I looked up the Hyundai
IONIQ 5 and the end line is the cheapest all-wheel drive you can get in
Australia 97 500 drive away that's a lot of money that's like model-wide
I say it was fun to try it was fun to it was really fun to try yeah yeah I don't
know I mean I wasn't actually a fan of the other IONIQ 5s and then suddenly
when it had the spoiler on the back it was like a different car I think you
refer to the 6 this is the 5 and like okay yeah I mean that's what I mean like
for 97 500 it's it's asking Tesla Model Y performance price right yeah I'm not
sure it's you want to knock that down as well if you can from the dealer now
we've got a few cars that haven't reached market yet or at least still very
fresh the MG for X power this is probably one of the best valued all-wheel
drive small all-wheel drives you can get at the moment 4.2 meter vehicle $48,000
drives like a zippy little thing around the city 64 kilowatt hour NMC battery so
looking forward to testing the new MG for when it arrives okay so I can't talk
about that too much more except the old one was pretty good to drive already
BYD out-of-three EVO the new EVO lots of anticipation for this car it's going to
come in real drive and all drive so this could be a huge step up from the current BYD
out-of-three all right so stay tuned for that LFP battery 75 kilowatt hour this
could be a good one could be a winner now the Suzuki EVATARA what can I say 58900
is a lot of money we've got the car at the moment actually for testing I don't know
even with all drive I think it's still asking too much for 59 grand drive away
there is a special moment but even so it's limited to the first hundred customers
yeah yeah and I mean I know I fuss about my
ANCAP rating I think this scored in the like 70s for adult occupant
yeah I don't know I just I just feel like when I think it's like nine out of ten
EVs get a five star ANCAP rating I don't know why you would look at anything that
doesn't have a five star ANCAP rating so it's not the worst EV with like the worst
ANCAP rating an EV's ever got that honors for that goes to the Jeep Avenger
that's three isn't it three stars that's three yeah so it's not the worst but I do feel like when
pretty much like the vast majority of cars get a five star ANCAP rating and when you look at the
numbers I really feel that like adult occupant and child occupant should be at least in the 80s
um I don't know but that's if that's you know important to you that's very important to me
safety should be important to everyone right yeah yeah look the actual car itself is is quite
utilitarian like the like the Toyota's and the Subaru's and the interior feels quite quite dated
as well already even though it's a new car um yeah I think look the price there's the car belongs
to someone it's just quite expensive that's I think it is honestly just a
price I think if it was 38 990 I think then we're talking I think we would be you know
going this is this is a good value car I think the problem is that it it's $20,000 more expensive
than it ought to be I think Suzuki really need to look at the market again honestly hopefully
they'll watch this video and you can see the other other cars price quite well around it
speaking of which you see for that kind of money 58 990 you can get a Zika X the new Zika X right
57 900 that's a huge price problem that is a phenomenal vehicle that drives incredibly well
bigger vehicles well 4.4 meters bigger battery CATL battery you know and then like the actual
not ingredients of a car the materials of the car I've just far more premium the look is more
premium yeah yeah it's a good car I mean on the same platform you've got smart hashtag one hashtag
three I saw a hashtag three today and I still think they look really nice still probably still
a bit overpriced I would go into the Mercedes dealer and try and knock some money off that
I have heard from someone who I know drives I think I think it's a hashtag three you
can bargain with the dealers so yeah and I think if you can get that for much cheaper than a stated
on there yeah 76 is expensive for the Brabas variant I would knock that I would try to get
under 70 if not low 60s they got a very good price which I'm not going to say on here but
if you can get such a good price I think you'd be very happy yeah because they are very good cars
they're just yeah yeah expensive they drive well they look great Mercedes backing all that stuff
Volvo EX30 had had been selling well previously before I guess a lot of the new cars have come
on and people still trust the Volvo brand right okay definitely yeah 68 300 it's not terribly
expensive for a Volvo but you know now with the Chinese backing behind it I think it's not
not too bad a buy still I think the Volvo EX30 if you want that assurance of a well-known brand
and then the mini countrymen I mean look it's expensive but you're buying a mini
that's a German made vehicle it's part of the appeal that is expensive honestly yeah yeah I think
so too right I mean you can't go past a mini yeah people know what it's iconic so iconic yeah yeah
and yes we always enjoy having a mini to drive for the week so yep okay so they're all drive
vehicles done out of the way now there'll be some overlap in this next category with the SUVs over
4.7 meters so we won't talk about the others too much if we've talked about it already
so ZKF7X Tesla Model Y still probably the front runners for this category I think
and for what's included and for the price I mean there's a reason the Tesla Model Y is
the top seller by double number two you know so like or 5600 Australians can't be like stupid
right like yeah there's a reason that sold so well in May yeah and that's due to the fact
that it's now the second generation Model Y you know Tesla obviously have taken on the feedback
with Model Y owners Tesla owners in general and it's a great car let's face it the ecosystem's
good the vehicle's good now suspension's been improved no apple car play though that's one thing
yeah because obviously you've got to stay within the Tesla ecosystem yeah so you can't kind of like
hook up your phone to put ways up or something like that yeah to be fair though having now that
we're back in the Tesla ecosystem it is a very very easy to to navigate system the car is quite
easy to drive so yeah I can see the appeal definitely yep and ZKF7X hot take I actually
prefer the the cameras in the in the MGS oh okay yeah that is a hot take all right look yeah that's
fair that's fair I guess the Model Y cameras are designed for century mode so it's designed to look
backwards at the doors rather than forwards like especially for um yeah parallel parking
much prefer the MGS5 okay look at that although having said that the Model Y cameras
are better now compared to the previous generation yep ZKF7X still selling well like I said ZKF7X
second month in a row of a thousand deliveries there's still a very nice vehicle particularly
I think for the rural drive long range is still very good value we're seeing a few more pop up
in our neighborhood as well and um yeah like I still always turn my head when I see one because
they're nice looking cars I'll be like oh oh oh yeah and if the Model Y is like contemporary
minimalistic then the ZKF7X is the fault of that it's like the very luxurious inside you know
padded interiors very nice yeah but not not to the point that it's like you know in your face it's
it's still quite Swedish design still looks good and 22 kilowatt AC charging as well which is different
in the segment which is good um BYD CLI 7 obviously BYD it's going to sell well right I think the
strength of the BYD is that it is not a big leap from a petrol car to an EV like you sit in it
and it feels like familiar it kind of feels like an ICE car um and I think that's why it
sells so well because it's not this sudden you know weird looking iPhone you know you're driving an
iPhone um because like a lot of people don't like that like it feels like a like a quote on quote
proper car so yeah and the stitching and the the seats look good as well looks quite old well
luxury in my opinion yep still very good bye um and big battery 82 kilowatt hour LFP even in the
rural drive entry level so which is which is great now the X plane now this is still a bit of a
basket case at the moment yes yes I mean it's very dear to me um now when I mentioned iPhone on wheels
the the G6 is the iPhone on wheels I personally love driving an iPhone on wheels I want the tech
I want to feel like I'm driving the future um so if you want that sort of stuff then
it is ideal however however I mean look the car is still fantastic and the new G6 is really good
having having sat in China and driven in China it's already in New Zealand so we're just waiting
for these legal happenings to take you know to finish up in the courts but again the wheels are
in motion there because um people have been telling us there are new dealerships popping up um there
is a new website that is run by HQ so you know stay tuned in the space if you're if you're looking
to drive an um an iPhone on on wheels yeah especially the new one new G6 so I can I'm not
going to put a number on it but just just wait a bit I think we'll give updates on the stream but
on these videos as well yeah stay tuned in terms of the brand X-Ping um they are a tech brand um
and it's all in-house they even make their own like AI chips and things like that so um
in terms of yeah like I just the tech is just so incredible um in the cars and you can actually
talk to it and it actually works like you know how normally when you talk to a car or it accidentally
comes on when you invoke the name of the brand and then it'll come on and then invariably in any
other car it'll be like I'm sorry I didn't understand and you'll be like go away stop whatever
right but I don't know I just I found the X-Ping actually understood what I was saying and would
actually perform whatever it is I was trying to say yeah so look Joy's been driving or she had
driven her for nine months straight so he knows what she's talking about with the G6 it's a good
brand good car I am six okay so we talked about this in the oil drive segment the rural drives
comes in at 6990 which is still pretty good value for drive away for this car um and it's got a 75
kilowatt hour LFP battery so again a pretty good inclusion an amazing turning circle oh yeah really
really tight yeah that's right with a rear wheel independent steering so if you are always trying
to maneuver like shopping center car parks or anywhere that's you know a bit tricky um that's
one to look like look at because it's got those little you know nifty features and up with that
and it can charge quickly as well oh no sorry not the real drive variant but the all drive
variant can drive can charge very quickly yeah um now DPAL DPAL SO7 now this is uh I think an
underrated car I agree still the promotional special 46990 drive away which is 67
thousand dollars cheaper than its MSRP they're clearly trying to get rid of stock in Australia
it's model-wise size 80 kilowatt hour and NMC the only downside is that
it charges a bit slow 92 kilowatt DC probably on the slow side and I think I think its biggest
issue is probably the brand awareness the fact that it's still unknown the DPAL brand
even though the parent brand Chang'an is huge in China right but I mean it can it can work
in its favor in the sense that if you if you don't want to drive a car that looks the same as
everybody else then this is a really good one um and there's you're not kind of like um taking a
hit in terms of compromising like the quality of the car like it's a great car interior like was
you know like a typical nice looking kind of Chinese interior car um yeah I think I think
yeah people just don't know DPAL exists as a brand I think yeah I think it's worth a look 46990 it's
a it's a steel it's a huge saving so definitely check that out if you just you know if you're
in a drive in the city and do occasional road trips it's not too bad actually pretty good
okay lead motor c10 we talked about the sports version this is just the uh real drive version
again pretty good value of $50,000 for real drive LFP battery um and yeah it's um it's got
inclusions I mean it's I think Apple CarPlay can still be connected via a LinkedIn kit no car
car link it kit I think it's called so it can do it can be worked around um so a lot of owners
have worked out how to use carplay with it um yeah so I think it's you know it's still a good price
I think there's a uh extended range or range extended version as well of this car so it
definitely wasn't worth checking out um and then we've talked about the bz4x as well um this sort
sits in this category too it's that borderline 4.6 4.7 meters uh we're not doing that too much
more we've spoken about that already same with the Polestar fours and threes we've spoken about
those two and the DPAL E07 we've spoken about that that multi-truck uh car which also comes
in a real drive variant yep yep and then the MG again yeah the new color yep we haven't driven
that real drive version yet 50 grand is that possibly a bit overpriced for what it is or
still pretty good value no I mean look if you compare it with everything else in this list
apart from like I said the SO7 is it's just that's a crazy price isn't it that SO7 at that price
I wonder why it's not selling as much as I know right yeah I really think people just don't don't
know about it yeah yeah real drive 49 990 for the S6 that's drive away it is drive away I wouldn't
mind seeing that just a touch cheaper um but still I might I don't know we're worth bargaining at
I mean I remember when the when the Gilly EX5 was this price and I was excited so the
fact that you can now get a bigger car that's real or drive for this price I think that's
correctly priced true okay if anybody can melt that price down let us know in the comments because
it'd be hard to bargain a brand new no I don't think that's already a great deal maybe if they
throw in a charger or something yeah umbrella yep um I love my umbrella all right so that's the
SUVs over 4.7 next category is the medium SUVs between 4.5 and 4.7 of which there are
still a lot to choose from and is the front runner in this category still the GLEX file
let's have a look I think so but not by as much as it used to be that's that's what I feel that's
fair for me there's three vehicles to look at in this car in this segment the leap motor B10 the GLEX
5 extended range and the GSE IONV they're my top three yeah yeah I would put IONV
second and leap motor third yep yep they've both they've all got their strengths those three cars
I think between the three of them I think the IONV even though it's front wheel drive probably
drives the best um and that's hard for me to say that it's front wheel drive but the leap motor B10
I do agree I are you going to say the driving it goes IONV leap motor GLEX that's what I'm
going to say yeah I agree with you and I it's I feel I feel dirty saying that but it even though
it's a front wheel drive vehicle it's probably the best driver's car B10 is not bad there is
a few quirks with the ADAS which you can turn off and also with the the force of your foot how
can I say that I'm going to say there's something about the way like the way you accelerate and
brake in a leap motor B10 that takes a little bit of getting used to like like I'm not an expert in
terms of how they you know the clever engineers who work out what that acceleration curve is
but it just doesn't quite seem as natural or as nice um the feeling is just a bit lurchy and a
bit laggy like a bit laggy and lurchy um in the leap motor B10 um so it takes a little bit of
trying to figure out how much pressure your foot should use you need a lot of foot control for the
B10 yeah um and we don't have this problem in I mean obviously we're testing a lot of cars
we're pretty much in a different car every week so it's not like we're always in the same car and
then we're in a leap motor and then we're like we can't do this it's like compared to how quickly
we can adjust to other cars this one takes a little bit more getting used to so we don't think it's
us we do think it's the car but you know always at a risk you try it and you you see for yourself
and maybe you'll be like you know what I don't know what they're talking about or you can be like
oh you know but you will get used to it so that's the other thing we did get used to it
but it took that little bit longer yeah look after a few days or even a couple of weeks you'll get
used to it um and you might love everything about else about the car and you could say oh I can do
all the drive dynamic no problem so yeah definitely worth to test driving for yourselves um and the
geely x5 again we said in our video uh the suspension can be a bit light so it's just you
know the suspension pillow like the pillow menu right it's just on the light side uh like sort of
a bit bouncy compared to say the i only which is a bit firmer yeah but I mean you I've seen
opposite reels of like people complaining that you know if they order an uber and it's a Tesla
that rocks up they'll cancel it because it's too firm so yeah horses for causes yeah okay so the
rest uh this scenario we've talked about already I still feel that's too expensive so try and knock
some money off the the asking price and that for that car particularly for the law uh front wheel
drive vehicle in this category I want to talk about the key please let's talk about the key 85
yeah that is a phenomenal price yeah because it's for a legacy car for Kia it's such a well-known
brand in this country you know it's got a BYD blade battery don't forget yeah yeah but don't
forget to also we I did mention this that the kias they do there there's a huge jump up between
the different variants so the for the base kia v5 which is the air there's a lot of inclusion
not not there in the other like so you're saying that 49 990 is actually quite a basic it's quite
spartan for what it is and it gets you into the showroom no problem okay but for me I would
be looking at the earth variant at least true true so but look like I said gets you in there
have a look yeah okay see I have to say for 49 990 I would go to the other tab and you can actually
get an s6 now for that correct absolutely yeah s6 bigger car more range better tech and it's
still a legacy brand it's mg that's very true isn't it there you go but mate like not everyone wants
that big size car if maybe you want a slightly smaller car then you go the mg s5 this is true
can you 85 feels big I don't know why it's it's not a big car but it feels very chunky when you
drive it I think it's like that it's to do with the squareness of it true now the next one is the
hiende alexio I haven't seen too much press about this car even though we've had this already
59 990 it's 10 000 bucks more than the ev5 pretty much a similar vehicle it's got a bigger battery
also byd blade so yeah I think it's a bit of a dark horse too it's it's it's a it's a strange
looking vehicle I remember it's got like odd looking eyes but the interior the infotainment
system is actually quite good for what it is but still got the the hiende drive dynamic so it's
still quite good I don't know I I feel like not as many people are happy to pay a premium for like
a Korean car versus a Japanese car I just feel that that's the kind of yeah yeah that's fair
like in Australia anyway yeah the legacy but not legacy like Toyota like or Subaru yeah yeah fair
enough okay then we get to some of the european cars of the Volkswagen 94 Cooper Taviskan as I
said before the the vw's don't have the connectivity yet so you know you're compromised from that point
of view they do drive very well of course the the vw brands a scota eniac again that's a bit
cheaper than its cousins and maybe look at a slightly smaller range of course smaller battery
but 54 990 is not bad for a european car and then we get to back to hiende again hiende anik 5
it's been around a long time I think there's a promo of the moment 71 990 it's still quite expensive
for what it is but it is a premium hiende so yeah it's it's been out for a few years now
still a very good car and then the bz-4x and uncharted makes makes its rears his head again
in the segment here so we've chatted about those two cars already in the past we haven't actually
driven the uncharted yet but I suspect that'll drive quite well so stay tuned we'll try and get
a lone car very shortly very shortly okay let's push on next segment is the compact suv between
4.2 to 4.5 meters this is very crowded but we will get through it all it seems to be divided
into lfp batteries in the first half and then nmc below so now first up is the mg4 evi urban we
sort of chatted about that in the start of the video this is very cheap 31 990 drive away very
good price from mg lfp battery heat pumps are quite efficient now front wheel drive so yeah we've
driven the mg4 evi urban bigger battery on the highway to new castle that was quite good got
pretty good efficiency on that I feel like um with these the latest generation of mg cars
they've kind of really figured out like what what are people willing to spend money on and what
is sort of not necessary so we can keep the price down like I think they've got that balance
pretty well um I would love for there to be better sound systems in the mgs but I understand that
would probably you know send the price skyrocketing a lot higher so I would rather drive in a car that
doesn't have as good a sound system knowing that I paid significantly less for the car and I think
most people probably feel the same way and we said that the mgs6 sound system was quite good
actually so that improved it an improvement yeah all right gse iron ut so this is like the chinese
mini very zippy um price reasonably well as well 32 990 um slightly bigger battery than the
mg4 evi urban and it's a very cute looking car as well so if you want to drive like a you know a
kawai car then this is the one to choose yeah yeah comes in funky colors too yep
byd dolphins been around for a while still up there in the mix um
gwm aura 5 that's a newish car looking to try to get a media car for you guys
by by all counts it seems to be quite a good good value asking 33 990 drive away so for a 4.4
meter vehicle that's not bad value indeed byd addo 235 that's getting more expensive now 4.3
meter vehicle 51 kilowatt hour look you know what you get with the oid right you know the brand is
quite prominent now in australia so you buy into the fact that it's dealerships everywhere
probably got more parts in the country so you can see the appeal
the jqj 5 selling very well some of those deliveries are starting to come through it's
favorite i feel like i think you either love or hate the look of it and if you love the look
of it it's like you see it and you're like that's the car i want to drive you know based on the
look yeah like the look of a land land rover or range rover i'm gonna get a jqj 5 because it looks
like one and it's still priced very well and thousands of australians can't be wrong right so
and the cherry brand is is big again so it's um you should be okay afterward after sales service
anyway i do feel that if you're going from like a petrol car you get into pretty much any EV and
it's going to drive just even a front wheel drive EV it's going to drive so much better than any
ice car you've ever driven so like you're going to be smiling whatever whatever choice you you take
out of all these cars that we're talking about yeah cherry motor e5 is um has been around a little
while now um so we've reviewed that a couple of times previously so check out those videos
uh we'll try and get through some of these so mg4 rear wheel drive yep we talked about that earlier
so we we're still waiting for the new mg4 to um to be released for media loans so stay tuned
mgs5 we personally own so check out our videos obviously we like the car a lot
our rear wheel drive lfp battery still a good asking price 40 grand drive away
by the after three uh again the new evo is what i'd be waiting for the new
rear wheel drive or drive versions of this of this car with a bigger battery that
hopefully should be coming in the second half of this year so if you want out of three desperately
then i'd be trying to knock off some of that that price from the driveway price so at the
moment it's about 43 grand drive away uh Hyundai kona there's a special on at the moment 45 990
um that's still a pretty good car um for what it is um it's like their b-tier evs the kona
suzuki evo tire we've chatted about already zika x we've chatted about as well
that's still a very good car these are obviously just the um rear wheel drive variants of them ev
three sells always sells very well um you can see why they're reasonably priced reasonably well for
a Korean car it's good old rock we're getting a press car of that very soon so we'll give you
our thoughts very soon on the channel the Renault which joy likes of course yeah i mean now we're
now we're heading into the european premium territory aren't we yeah 49 990 drives well
paint for the Renault legacy aspect of it um and the scenic e-tech there's a i think there's
been a price reduction as well before the new ones come in yeah but look i think if you are looking
in this segment of the market like price is probably not that big a consideration for you
because you are willing to spend almost double um what someone else is paying for their equivalent
sized car like if you're in this segment um it's a it's a different like ballgame for you isn't it
like it's about the badging look um and all of them drive well so you don't need to
sort of like start nitpicking those sorts of issues it's almost kind of like what fits with
your personal branding at that point isn't it that's right looking at this segment of the market
this is true yep uh we've talked about the smart hashtag ones hashtag three and then
Volvo mini as well so yeah okay let's talk about the hatchbacks less than 4.2 meters okay so handa
insta there's not too much change in this one from our last video so handa insta addo one
mini aceman Geely x2 is still waiting for of course that is i'm eagerly waiting this car i think this
will sell very well if they price it correctly which they will because well you hope they will
because it's already in other markets over other overseas markets and it's priced competitively there
and in china they've actually increased the battery size as well so hopefully in australia
they'll send the newer batteries fingers cross i don't have any more intel on that but let's hope
Geely send the new ones across to australia uh and then ut we've spoken about and same with the
byd dolphins as well so i don't want to we're actually going to get a press car loan very shortly
two of that car so i i don't think i've actually driven that car yet in australia so looking forward
actually testing it in sydney i know that's selling well too obviously you know being a such a small
efficient car makes sense in this climate yeah okay let's wrap up with a few more categories so
the six to seven cedars uh you might know that we just recently took delivery of the tesla model yl
why you might ask well let's face it for a six cedar vehicle it's very hard to beat it's asking
75 msrp it's still still a reasonably sized suv so you can still fit that in most garages right
including else that's the thing i i basically wanted the the to be able to carry 66 people
without having to sacrifice having like such a large car that i felt like i wouldn't be able to
drive it so you have like a slightly larger car but suddenly you have the ability to have six seats
when you need it yeah yeah and it's all a drive let's face it it's a great car to drive
and then the rest of the field i haven't actually driven the denser d9 yet it's a big car 5.2 meters
it is lfp though 103 kilowatt hour lfp battery that's huge being by d blade and then vw id bars if
you want sort of the old wall charm yeah i think and i think if you go to an actual dealer you can
get it you can kind of bargain with them and get it for a much better price than what's listed on
here um so if you can get get it for you know a good price then yep that's certainly one to look
at very versatile absolutely and same with the kia ev 9 same with the hiende ii i'd be trying to
knock that price down definitely volva ex 90 knock that down to 124 990s a lot uh vistic just came
out um look that's that's quite fun uh being a cadillac uh we did say the price is not too
unreasonable given what else is out there uh particularly it's an all-wheel drive vehicle as
well the zika 009 is a lovely vehicle it must be driven in a zika 009 uh but this is the front
wheel drive area so you'd be paying a bit more for the all-wheel drive and then long cars both of them
i think are 5.2 meters so you know um you might need to check where you can leave your car overnight
if um if you get one of these oh and your other garage you're like the other the other 10 car
garage you can stick the 009 in okay so that's the six or seven cedar and now we've got the sedans
all right so we've got um tesla model 3 the new long range rural drive just um came out lots of
good reviews at the moment and i can see why you know uh the stalk is back in the new model trees
right so like our model y it's it's easy to drive again with the stock back um yeah it makes sense
to have a long range rural drive in this country we don't always need all the drive like we said
previously so uh good that tesla brought that in um the bydc or premium still a great car having
been a previous owner um still very good value uh i am five we quite like that car suspension was
good drives very well being lowered to the ground good drive dynamic uh ev4 very polarizing um the
looks um 54 grand drive away uh onyx six is the one you like that was that i was thinking of the
onyx six isn't it yeah the new onyx six with numbers yeah now that that is a nice car to drive it
just it i didn't like the look of it and and then you add the spoiler and suddenly it's like oh my
goodness that may that just made such a difference it was like missing that component to be fair this
is the sedan category so maybe the the top spec it would be in the midlife crisis category right
so yeah so this is still without yeah yeah this is like the entry level yeah
no i don't didn't like this i like the midlife crisis midlife crisis version yeah
and then poll start to that's been around a long time um i'd be trying to negotiate that price as
well i think in this category for me my favorite was actually the i am five i still stick by that i
bring it up every time and i i stick by that yeah yeah that's not bad if you if you don't want a
tesla model three it's like if if if you're happy to be in a tesla than the tesla model three um
and if you want an alternative to the tesla model three the yeah the i am five yeah yeah that's a
very good value for 6990 for sure okay finally let's wrap up with the midlife crisis cars okay so
this is the cars we can only dream of tesla model three performance still under 90 grand i drive away
um Ioniq six n enjoys lovely spoiler Ioniq five and it's it's cousin um key even six gt we're
actually getting a loan of that car very soon this is like the key a cousin of that car
mg cyberster that's also fun right with the top down yeah but can i just harping back on the Ioniq
okay it had it had all the australian tracks like pre like loaded onto onto the like system of
the car right so that you can set your best times and it'll like log it in the car so it's already
you know it's definitely designed for the track yep it's it's a very cool feature actually and you
could like fiddle with it which i mean i wouldn't even know what i'm fiddling but you could fiddle
fiddle with it so you can um work out all the like your optimal drift drift settings if you
know what you're doing it's it's definitely very granular and then pulse star five which is like
that amazing uh coupe that very low sleek coupé which they promised to let us drive eventually
to 210 000 people we've we've seen it we've done a walk around sat in it and then the two uh
beautiful cars the seven gt from zika um we've driven that in china that was lovely and then
the daniel craig endorsed denser z9 gt in china we've seen over there so that they are coming to
australia so stay tuned for those two cars we will be definitely driving that for you
all right so that wraps up our um may 2026 update and market trends it's a long one but
i figured it's probably worth it to go through each one and give you our thoughts and experience
of those vehicles um obviously we've missed something you know we can't cover everything
but if there's anything in particularly you like us to cover we'll include in the spreadsheet let us
know but as i said this spreadsheet is is is public access so link in the video description
below and also in the comment pin comment yep i think overall i would say the best selling evs are
pretty much what we would think as well with maybe the exception of the depal i'm surprised
i'm not seeing that on that list but other than that it's like i get it you know test the model y
it's jqj5 geely c line seven like zika yeah like all solid sensible choices and then b y d like
12 and three all there as well and the seal so yep yeah it makes sense yeah Australians
are making good choices yeah exactly not too many uh surprising choices there
and look that's face it that's good to see less diesel vehicles being sold let's um increase
our evs and decrease our reliance on fossil fuel yeah i'd like to see ion on this list
as well because i think the v and the ut is well especially the ut such a cute car yeah i think the
deliveries are starting to come through so we'll see what riz has got for us in in stock in store
for us in the next few months so it's getting late i'm slowing my words but until next time
ludicrous feed uh this is joy i'm tom and we'll shall see you with the next month's update until
then it's happy charging
About this episode
May 2026 EV sales in Australia hit a record 20% BEV share, with the Tesla Model Y standing out as a top seller and even the overall best-selling vehicle across powertrains. The hosts dig into why sales lists get harder as BEVs grow, then shift to June buying guidance: value picks, battery chemistry (LFP vs NMC), and wet-weather AWD confidence. They also compare pricing drivers like CATL batteries, luxury tax thresholds, and trim-feature tradeoffs.
Catch up on the latest in Electric Vehicle news from Australia and around the world! Hosted by Tom & Joy Gan of Ludicrous Feed, Riz Akhtar from Carloop and Roland Lam from Zapped
