01:34
Hey, Coach. Hey, how are you doing today?
01:36
I'm doing good today.
01:38
It's a first Thursday.
01:40
It's a first Thursday, and we're talking about what?
01:43
The best car in the world.
01:46
And the choice was made by none other than our very own Abram
01:51
Manny on the board.
01:53
And remember that I'm on the board.
01:55
So when y'all say something mean,
01:56
I can just turn your mic off.
01:59
I've got my hands over the buttons.
02:02
Well, Abram, you got to think about it.
02:03
It's how I feel about this, is that the Kia is the new Toyota.
02:08
OK, we used to see Toyotas just running all over the place.
02:12
Now you see Kia's running all over the place.
02:15
So really, if you think about it, Kia is their vehicles.
02:19
America buys 21% of all their vehicles.
02:22
And that's a lot of percentage.
02:24
That is a lot of percentage.
02:27
We are the largest buyer of Kia's in the world.
02:33
Yeah, I'm not shocked.
02:34
And I think Mississippi is the number one buyer of Kia's
02:38
Well, did you look that up already?
02:40
No, no, I'm just saying that off top.
02:41
You're spitting ball in.

03:12
Our host is Coach Charlie Melton, ASC-certified master
03:16
I'm Jermaine Flood.
03:18
Hey, how are you doing today?
03:19
I'm doing good today.
03:21
It's a first Thursday.
03:23
It's a first Thursday, and we're talking about what?
03:26
The best car in the world.
03:29
And the choice was made by none other than our very own
03:34
Abram Nanny on the board.
03:36
And remember that I'm on the board.
03:38
So when y'all say something mean,
03:39
I can just turn your mic off.
03:43
I've got my hands over the buttons.
03:45
Well, Abram, you got to think about it.
03:47
It's how I feel about this is that the Kia is the new Toyota.
03:52
OK, we used to see Toyotas just running all over the place.
03:56
Now you see Kia's running all over the place.
03:59
So really, if you think about it, Kia
04:02
is their vehicles America buys 21% of all their vehicles.
04:07
And that's a lot of percentage.
04:09
That is a lot of percentage.
04:12
We are the largest buyer of Kia's in the world.
04:18
Yeah, I'm not shocked.
04:19
And I think Mississippi is the number one
04:21
buyer of Kia's in the nation.
04:23
Well, did you look that up already?
04:24
No, no, I'm just saying that all the time.
04:26
How many Tellurines every time you turn around,
04:28
you see a Tellurine, you see a Saltish, you see a Sportish.
04:32
Sorrento's everywhere.
04:35
So like I say, I'm sort of thinking it's like the new Toyota.
04:40
Because when Toyotas came out, they were all over the place.
04:44
If we haven't told you all today,
04:46
it's first Thursday's making model.
04:48
And we're talking Kia.
04:50
Our email address for questions is auto at mpbonline.org.
04:53
The phone number is 1-877-MPB-RING.
04:58
That's 1-877-677-7464.
05:02
If you've got a Kia story, or even a Hyundai story,
05:07
or even if you just need your car fixed,
05:08
Coach has got you covered.
05:12
You know, I was thinking about, you know,
05:14
everyone says, oh, I'm going to say something bad.
05:16
And I'm really not going to say any bad things about Kia.
05:19
I will tell you a few not to buy.
05:21
But the old Kia's were so much different than the new Kia's.
05:27
The old Kia's were the ones that you did not want to buy.
05:31
You didn't want to buy.
05:32
You would throw them away because they just fell apart.
05:36
But I will tell you something, things about some new Kia's,
05:39
too, that you need to understand.
05:41
And not saying that is a bad thing,
05:44
but it happens in all manufacturers.
05:46
Well, we're going to get into all of what Coach has this.
05:50
I'm not going to say sell us.
05:51
But tell us, because I am one of those ones,
05:54
it was like I'm never going to buy a Kia again,
05:57
because I bought one of the old ones.
05:58
So we'll get into all of that.
06:00
But I do have a definition for Kia, a little write-up.
06:03
Kia Corporation was founded in May of 1944,
06:07
and is Korea's oldest manufacturer of motor vehicles.
06:10
From humble origins making bicycles and motorcycles,
06:14
Kia has grown as part of the dynamic global Hyundai Kia
06:18
automotive group to become the world's fifth largest
06:21
vehicle manufacturer.
06:24
Would you believe that during that,
06:27
you know, Kia almost went bankrupt,
06:29
and the thing is Ford came in when
06:32
they started going bankrupt in the 90s.
06:35
And then after Ford got out, Hyundai bought them in 1998.
06:40
And they became a sister company of Hyundai.
06:43
So if you think that when you're driving down the road,
06:45
you see a Kia, and you see a Hyundai,
06:48
they're the same cars, but they're not the same cars,
06:52
because Kia is a little bit more sporty looking,
06:56
and they don't have a Kia has a van.
07:01
Hyundai does not have a van, and Kia
07:06
has a three-door sports car where a Hyundai don't.
07:11
So when you start thinking about the sporty in,
07:14
and they are on the same platform,
07:16
a lot of times the car, since Hyundai owns them,
07:19
they're built in the same plants,
07:20
just like General Motors and GMC, Chevrolet's,
07:24
built in the same plant, different emblems.
07:27
Now, Coach loves to say they're like sisters,
07:31
The write-up online wants you to believe
07:34
a little bit different that, of course,
07:36
they share the platforms, they share those assembly lines,
07:39
but they're two totally different vehicles
07:42
is what is written off online.
07:43
But once you share the same platform,
07:46
that means that you have the same type of vehicle,
07:48
and you're changing the aesthetics,
07:50
just like General Motors, GMC, and Chevrolet,
07:54
which one costs you more?
07:56
Chevrolet is cheap, General Motors is high,
07:59
just because of the difference in luxury.
08:06
And if you think about it, Kia does not have a luxury line.
08:09
Everybody thinks Genesis is their luxury line,
08:12
it is not Kia's luxury line,
08:14
it is Hyundai's luxury line.
08:18
And Hyundai's luxury line,
08:20
matter of fact, Genesis is part of that group,
08:23
once again, trying to make it look better,
08:26
and trying, matter of fact,
08:28
the Genesis of Kia and Hyundai
08:32
will look just like any of the other
08:34
high-quality luxury cars.
08:36
Yeah, yeah, they do resemble
08:37
some of those high-quality, those Genesis's do.
08:39
And the thing with Kia is how their trim changes.
08:46
So higher-level trim better the vehicle.
08:52
So you mentioned a little something before,
08:55
when you said Kia and Hyundai came together in 1998.
09:01
My Sophia was a 1997, it was not a 1998.
09:07
And so I was right there on the cusp
09:09
of the merger and possibly the better Kia vehicles.
09:14
Well, when you start thinking about Kia vehicles,
09:16
you know, I had a friend that had a Rio.
09:18
Rios would run, this guy here ran this car all the time.
09:21
Rios are still driving, coach.
09:23
They're still driving, they don't make them.
09:25
But they drive for, you know,
09:27
they're really indestructible.
09:28
But really, if you think about it,
09:31
Telluride and the Sorento,
09:34
no, Telluride and the Sportage is made in Georgia.
09:37
We only have one Kia Platinum, that's in Georgia.
09:42
Okay, the rest of them are made in South Korea
09:44
and brought over here.
09:47
If you start thinking about Kia's,
09:50
now if you look at a Kia right now,
09:52
it has a really neat-looking emblem.
09:58
Well, Kia has changed their emblems six times.
10:02
And this time, this emblem,
10:04
do you even know what the emblem stands for?
10:07
All emblems have, no matter on what kind of car,
10:10
it stands for something.
10:12
This one here stands, matter of fact,
10:14
is called to rise from the East,
10:19
rising from the East or to rise from Asia.
10:23
So the first syllable, like Coach is saying,
10:26
the K-I is meaning to arise or come up out of.
10:32
So that is what Kia means.
10:35
And you know what I'd like to know what Kia means?
10:38
I'd like to know what Kia means to Abram.
10:40
That's what I'd like to know.
10:42
Well, Abram, tell us about your Kia.
10:44
Well, look, my Kia is great to me.
10:48
My wife's Kia is great to her,
10:49
so that's what made me wanna get a Kia
10:51
when my last Camry went out.
10:54
But it's funny because if you looked at our house,
10:57
like when we're both home
10:58
and both cars are parked outside the house,
11:01
like she's got a charcoal gray Kia Sorento.
11:04
I've got a charcoal gray Kia Optima sitting on the curb.
11:08
It looks like we planned it out.
11:09
I really just went to the dealership
11:11
and was like, I like this one.
11:13
And then that's how it happened.
11:14
And then they've treated us well.
11:16
So that's essentially what happened.
11:18
It's better than their better bills
11:23
than some of the other ones that we could have gotten.
11:27
Yeah, and plus, I will say,
11:29
Kia has a 10-year, 100,000-mile power train warranty
11:35
So that is one of the thing.
11:36
And one of the hot sellers,
11:38
if you think about it, is the Kia Soul.
11:40
That's Kevin Ferrell.
11:41
That is Kevin's vehicle.
11:45
That always makes you think
11:46
about those fuzzy little hamsters.
11:48
That's why my mom wanted the car.
11:51
But I told her, I think you do get a hamster.
11:54
I think Kevin said he did get a hamster
11:56
when he purchased it.
11:59
You'll have to correct me on that.
12:00
It wasn't a real hamster.
12:02
No, you did not get a real hamster.
12:04
It was one of those little plushy ones.
12:06
You got a plush hamster.
12:08
But yeah, that was what my mom was like,
12:09
I want the hamsters.
12:11
And I'm like, they don't come in the vehicle.
12:13
They don't come with the car, not the ones you see.
12:15
Well, I just wanted them to come out there
12:17
and jump out of my car and run around
12:18
at a red light or something.
12:20
That was the best sell.
12:21
That's what I would want.
12:22
That's what sold the Kia Soul.
12:25
No, it was the hamster.
12:26
It was like the before the grand ones
12:29
get turned into the grand ones.
12:30
That's right, that was it.
12:33
But like I say, when I say it's the new Toyota,
12:36
there are a lot more kids around
12:39
that you never saw before.
12:41
Okay, you saw the Rio, you saw some of the others,
12:44
the Forte, you saw some of them running around,
12:47
but now you see all brand new ones.
12:49
And I hate to tell you, in 2013,
12:52
that was not a good year for Kia.
12:54
Okay, well, I'll tell you, 2007 wasn't,
12:57
I mean, 1997 wasn't either.
13:00
Well, that's when they started merging.
13:02
Like I say, and believe it or not,
13:04
the engines are some of them Chrysler,
13:09
there's some like the Chrysler brand,
13:11
there is the Hyundai brand and they are the Kia brand
13:14
that all these brands come together
13:16
and one company was making them before Hyundai took over.
13:20
And then when Hyundai took over,
13:22
Hyundai made the engines.
13:23
Well, do we need to pat Hyundai on the back?
13:28
Well, we should because there's one who brought us Kia.
13:31
That's right, brought us the better Kia.
13:33
Better Kia, that's true.
13:34
They brought us the better Kia.
13:35
They didn't bring us the Kia, it is the better Kia.
13:37
But today now Kia produces more than 1.4 million
13:41
vehicles a year at literally 14 manufacturing
13:45
and assembly operations in eight countries.
13:48
These vehicles are sold and serviced through a network
13:51
of more than 3,000 distributors and dealers
13:54
covering 172 countries.
13:57
And the corporation has more than 40,000 employees
14:00
and annual revenues that include Abram and Kevin's dollar
14:06
of more than $17 billion dollars.
14:10
Yeah, but there are some bad things about Kia
14:13
and you gotta understand that.
14:14
And I will tell you that my daughter owns the Kia,
14:17
I know some other people,
14:22
They just burn oil just to burn oil.
14:25
They just like to burn it.
14:27
The cylinders are bad.
14:29
And that's what the problem is.
14:30
In 2013 and a few years,
14:34
they had problems with the engines themselves
14:37
and they did not make a recall.
14:38
Yeah, yeah, well, well,
14:41
we're gonna get into some more of that.
14:42
I cannot wait, speaking of recalls,
14:45
you know that's what's coming up next too.
14:47
So the phone number is 1-877-MPB-RING.
14:51
That's 1-877-672-7464.

15:25
Coach, I'm gonna run through these recent recalls real fast,
15:28
especially after the first one,
15:29
because the rest of them all belong to Ford.
15:32
Oh, my favorite vehicle.
15:34
I just looked at it like, wow.
15:38
All right, first up, that's not Ford.
15:40
Stelanus is recalling more than 219,500 examples
15:44
of its Dodge Journey SUV and RAM ProMaster work van
15:48
over an issue with the rear view camera.
15:50
That includes model year 2019 to 20 journeys
15:53
and model year 19 to 21 ProMasters.
15:56
The microprocessors in these vehicles
15:59
may have cracks in them,
16:00
preventing the rear view camera image from displaying,
16:03
and that image, if it doesn't display properly,
16:06
decreases visibility for the driver
16:08
and increases the risk of a crash
16:10
if you do not use your mirrors like Coach says.
16:14
There's always an easy fix for that.
16:16
There's an easy fix for not crashing and wrecking
16:20
without that rear view camera.
16:21
We were so used to using mirrors,
16:23
and it seems like the manufacturer's got it away
16:26
from using mirrors.
16:27
Let me tell you something, when the cameras came up,
16:30
which still, there are older people to this day,
16:33
I even had the issue of not trusting it,
16:36
thinking it doesn't know where I'm at on this ground.
16:40
Oh, you say I'm that close.
16:45
Yeah, it will be for some reason,
16:46
and you're just like, it could be anything.
16:49
You just have no idea.
16:50
You just keep going back.
16:51
And now it's like, it doesn't work?
16:53
How am I gonna back up?
16:54
How am I gonna back up?
16:55
You know, well, think about ones
16:56
that have trailer hitches and all.
16:59
You know, it may not help with the trailer hitches
17:01
because they stand up.
17:02
The trailer is in the way.
17:04
What were you gonna say, Amber?
17:05
Oh, it's like a lady that gets stuck on a,
17:08
like the lady that got stuck on the escalator
17:09
because it got turned off to just walk up the stairs.
17:15
My brother likes to tell this story of one time
17:18
he got into a U-Haul, like a sprinter van.
17:20
And you know, the guy who was driving was like,
17:23
Jay, we can't leave.
17:25
It doesn't have a rear view mirror.
17:26
We can't go anywhere.
17:28
So he was freaking out and was like,
17:29
dude, it's a sprinter van.
17:30
It's like, it doesn't have one anyway.
17:32
It's like, you can't look past
17:34
the gigantic trailer in the back of the van.
17:36
The door is not gonna be open.
17:37
All you're gonna see is the door.
17:42
I mean, it's just like driving a U-Haul.
17:44
You can't look back there.
17:46
It's those other mirrors.
17:47
It's the other mirrors you've got to use.
17:49
Okay, so that is the fix.
17:51
If you don't go get your recall,
17:53
but to resolve, dealers are replacing
17:55
the rear view camera for free.
17:57
Up next is a stack of Ford.
18:02
Well, can I tell you-
18:03
I'll flip through real quick.
18:05
Can I tell you, my Ford pickup truck
18:08
has been at the dealership now for five weeks.
18:12
And guess what's here today?
18:13
That I'm walking outside to go see
18:15
after we get off the show.
18:19
The Ford Mach-E is outside.
18:22
This is the second time I've drove it.
18:24
I've put eight miles on it in five weeks.
18:29
Coach, I've been thinking about it ever since.
18:32
I told my mom, how is the idea of not being able
18:36
to what I call like coast.
18:38
Remember you told me-
18:40
You take your foot off the accelerator.
18:42
And I coast so much.
18:44
Ever since you told me that, I-
18:47
I can't drive it then.
18:48
Like for real, for real.
18:49
I could drive it in a parking lot.
18:51
You'd have to get used to it,
18:52
but it will, you take your foot off the accelerator.
18:56
There's gotta be a setting for it or something,
19:00
You take your foot off wherever you're at, it just-
19:03
Yeah, it just stops.
19:05
Okay, let me get to these recalls.
19:06
We got a couple of phone calls on the line.
19:09
All right, Ford, record setting recalls of the year
19:12
as it continues its pace for the third safety
19:15
missive of the day.
19:16
It recalls 100,000 and more examples
19:19
of its Ranger pickup truck over an issue
19:22
with the side curtain airbags
19:24
that includes 24 to 26 Rangers.
19:27
The airbags may come into contact with the B-pillar,
19:29
inner reinforcements and tear during deployment,
19:32
increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
19:34
The dealers are resolving the issue
19:36
by installing protective shields for free on that one.
19:40
Up next, the recalls keep coming in for them.
19:42
Today, it's more than 105,000 examples
19:47
of the Ford Mustang, not the E today,
19:50
that are affected by an issue with the exterior lighting
19:53
that includes 24 to 25 Mustang sport cars.
19:56
Water may have entered the body control module
19:58
in these vehicles as a result.
20:00
The license plate, side markers and tail lights
20:03
may not illuminate as intended,
20:05
decreasing visibility for other drivers
20:07
and increasing the risk of a crash.
20:09
And as a fix, dealers are inspecting
20:11
and sealing the body seams,
20:12
as well as inspecting the body control module
20:14
for corrosion and replacing it as necessary for free.
20:18
And then Ford's third recall in my hand,
20:22
there's only four, so we're almost done.
20:24
So you're almost done.
20:25
Ford's latest recall impacts more than 500,000 examples
20:28
of its Edge SUV and MKX SUV from luxury arm Lincoln.
20:33
This involves the rear brake hoses,
20:35
which may rupture 2015 to 2018 edges
20:39
and 2016 to 2018 MKX's.
20:42
The rear brake jounce hoses in these vehicles may rupture
20:46
and cause brake fluid to leak as a result,
20:48
drivers may experience an increase in pedal travel
20:52
as well as an increase in required stopping distance,
20:56
both increasing the risk of a crash.
20:58
If the fluid reaches a specified level,
21:01
the red brake fluid warning light will illuminate.
21:05
The root cause and resolution for the issue
21:07
has not been determined,
21:08
but Ford will begin notifying owners
21:10
of the safety risk, September 8th.
21:13
It sounds like they needed to make either a new hose
21:15
or reroute the hose because that's what's busting
21:18
and that's what's like the flood out.
21:20
So that's pretty easy.
21:21
Coach just figured it out,
21:22
that Ford can't figure it out.
21:25
If anybody knows Ford, give them a call.
21:28
Let them know that coach has figured that out.
21:30
That is a pretty easy affix.
21:32
Excuse me, Mr. Ford.
21:33
Henry, Henry, Henry.
21:37
All the other ones have not been busting.
21:41
Henry, coach just figured it out.
21:43
Now we're gonna get that together.
21:45
And finally in my stack,
21:47
Ford's last recall for me today
21:50
of its Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs
21:53
involves the issue with the trailer tail lights,
21:55
which may not illuminate.
21:57
More than 213,000 vehicles are affected.
22:00
This is model year 25 explorers and aviators.
22:03
These may have an improperly manufactured
22:05
body control module that could prevent
22:07
the tail lights on a trailer from illuminating
22:09
while towing, reducing visibility for other drivers
22:12
and increasing the risk of a crash to resolve.
22:14
Dealers are replacing the effective body control module
22:17
on vehicles with less than 9,000 miles.
22:20
For vehicles with more than 9,000,
22:22
they'll perform a functional check
22:24
on the body control module and replace it if necessary.
22:27
Well, you know if they're bad,
22:28
they should replace them all.
22:32
They're getting funny about it.
22:33
So you can find out if your car is a past recall
22:35
by going to the National Highway Traffic Safety
22:37
Administration website, nhtsa.gov.
22:40
Ford slash recalls and inputting your VIN number there
22:43
or find their safer car app today.
22:45
It's first Thursdays making models.
22:48
We're also taking vehicle repair questions.
22:50
Email us at auto at mpbonline.org.
22:53
Call us at 1-877-MPB-RING.
22:56
That's 1-877-672-7464.
22:59
Let's go to Belle in Yazoo County.
23:01
She's got a comment about old vehicles
23:05
Belle, you're on with Coach Charlie.
23:08
Well, it's not about old vehicles.
23:11
It's an almost universal safety feature
23:14
that I believe has unintended consequences.
23:18
And that's automatic door locks.
23:20
Every time I ride with somebody else,
23:23
I cringe when they put that lock on,
23:25
but I keep my mouth shut.
23:27
But you know, with that control being where the driver is,
23:33
if you were in a rut and the driver was incapacitated,
23:37
you would be locked in an unsafe car.
23:41
I'll take your comments on the radio.
23:45
Well, you know, that is exactly true.
23:48
You start going a certain miles per hour.
23:51
They notice that that vehicle is moving
23:53
and those locks lock.
23:56
They've done it for safety
23:57
for somebody getting in your vehicle.
23:59
It's what it is from the outside
24:01
because we were so many of us
24:03
were used to not lock the vehicles.
24:06
So they did it for safety,
24:07
but they really didn't think about
24:09
what she is talking about,
24:10
that it is on the master control switch
24:13
on the left side of the driver.
24:14
If the driver does not unlock the passenger side,
24:18
it does not unlock automatically.
24:21
So it is a safety feature
24:24
that maybe not as safe as it should be
24:27
because it, like she says.
24:28
Belle figured that one out, too.
24:30
Belle lets it cringe.
24:32
You know, they should have a way that the,
24:34
not even the passenger, really the driver's side,
24:37
the passenger in the front
24:39
should be able to unlock that door.
24:41
Well, especially because like not every car these days
24:44
has like those tabs that you can pull open
24:46
or like the little switch
24:48
that you just flip over and it unlocks.
24:50
And some vehicles, isn't the door,
24:53
like it's a two-pull on the handle
24:55
and that second pull gets you out?
24:59
Because I've been in maybe one,
25:01
maybe in the passenger side where you hit it once,
25:03
then you hit it twice and then it opens.
25:05
Well, that's where you need to go
25:06
to your owner's manual and read it
25:08
because I've never seen one like that.
25:13
Because if that was the case,
25:14
then a kid could pull on it twice
25:15
and the door would come open on it.
25:16
Yeah, that makes sense.
25:19
That would be another.
25:20
Belle, you may have opened up a can of worms there.
25:24
She's opened up a can of worms there for us.
25:26
Yeah, it's a big one.
25:27
I mean, I think about my Lexus too
25:29
and it has little, you know,
25:30
you can unlock all the doors
25:32
or lock all of them or have one unlocking.
25:35
I played with that a bit because it throws me off
25:38
if I'm trying to get into the back of the car
25:40
or something like that or whatever.
25:41
Well, you think about the passengers
25:44
in the rear seats where kids sit all the time,
25:47
you would open the door
25:48
and there would be a little switch there
25:49
that you could push up or down
25:51
and the kids couldn't unlock the door.
25:55
We're gonna get into some of that theft talk too
26:00
when it comes down to kids
26:01
before we get out of here for the day.
26:04
But let's go to Wilma in Memphis.
26:07
She's got a question about paperwork
26:09
to give vehicle to son.
26:11
Wilma, you're on with coach Charlie.
26:15
I'm not sure if this is an auto question
26:17
or a legal question,
26:19
but what do I need to do in the line of paperwork
26:23
to legally transfer the car to him?
26:26
Well, that's a very simple thing.
26:28
All you need to do is just get the title,
26:31
get the title of the vehicle.
26:33
And there's a line on there that says who you are
26:36
and who the seller is and the buyer.
26:39
And all you gotta do is just transfer
26:40
in his name with no problem.
26:43
And then what do I just give him that?
26:45
You just give him the title and he goes to get a tag
26:49
and they'll change the title in his name.
26:51
And there'll be nothing else you gotta do.
26:56
Okay, sounds very simple.
26:57
Thank you very much.
27:00
And thanks for giving us a call from Memphis this morning.
27:04
We have got Vy and Wayne County on the line.
27:07
She wants to ask you about repairing a glove compartment.
27:10
Let's go to Vy real quick, Abram.
27:13
Vy, you're on with coach Charlie.
27:16
Yeah, good morning, coach.
27:20
Sometime ago, in having oil change through Toyota,
27:27
they would go in to check the air filter
27:30
and they broke something in my glove compartment.
27:34
Later on, I found one or two two inch metal pieces
27:39
and I think I threw one of them away
27:41
because I didn't know what they were.
27:43
And I've taken the car back to Toyota several times
27:47
and the guy would go in there and do something
27:50
and it'll hold the glove compartment for a while
27:54
but now it's just plopping open.
27:57
Yeah, usually what's wrong with that,
27:59
they have a little cylinder or very small cylinder on there
28:02
and it has a little head on it
28:04
and it sort of pops into another piece coming out of it.
28:08
It just like pops in and what is happening.
28:11
Either they lost the piece out of the cylinder
28:14
or they have messed up the head
28:16
where it pops into with the glove box.
28:18
So what you would do is go back in there
28:20
and you need to tell them say,
28:21
hey, this wasn't like this when I bought,
28:24
when I got the vehicle, when you fixed it,
28:26
but when I got it back, now you have destroyed it.
28:28
My glove box will not stay closed
28:31
and they will have to replace that,
28:33
maybe that little cylinder.
28:34
It ain't like two inches long.
28:37
Right, I saw a little metal plate
28:42
about two inches, it was beige.
28:44
And it might have been two,
28:46
I threw one of them, I didn't know what it was,
28:48
but I'm gonna ask them to order those parts.
28:51
Yeah, just tell them you need that the glove box
28:55
won't stay open, I mean it won't stay closed
28:58
and they will order those little cylinders,
29:00
they're very simple to put in
29:01
and just make sure they're clipped in
29:03
on the little tab that's coming out of the glove box itself.
29:11
Okay, another quick question,
29:12
where's the best place to get an oil change?
29:14
Torio has gone up to like $83.
29:17
Everybody's gone up.
29:19
Well, when you start thinking about oil changes,
29:22
you wanna be careful when you go,
29:24
I would not take it to Walmart myself
29:26
because they don't have ASC certified technicians
29:28
most of the time, but I would take it to somewhere
29:31
like if you went to Quick Stop
29:34
or one of these that deal with nothing but oil changes,
29:39
one of those type of places.
29:41
Yes, I went there to Quick Stop
29:43
and they said they couldn't unscrew the plugs,
29:46
their Toyota had them so tight,
29:49
so the customer would have to come back
29:51
to Toyota for the oil change,
29:52
they couldn't unscrew the plugs.
29:55
Well, then somebody didn't try to unscrew the plug
29:58
because like I say, if it's tight,
30:00
it can be taken as loose.
30:01
They just had to put the wrench on it and do it.
30:03
Now, they made it and had the tool,
30:06
they might've thought they were gonna strip it out
30:09
because a lot of times people put the wrong wrench
30:11
or they use vice grips or something on it
30:13
or pliers and they strip it out,
30:15
so you gotta be careful about taking that.
30:17
So at $85, that's pretty reasonable for oil changes now
30:22
because of the type of oil they use.
30:25
What year is your vehicle?
30:30
Oh, you can get that oil changed anywhere, you know,
30:33
that's not, I would still take it back to a quick loop,
30:36
I wouldn't take it back to Toyota for 2007, you know,
30:41
make sure it doesn't-
30:42
They would change the filters,
30:44
they would change everything at a quick loop.
30:46
Yes, ma'am, they'd change the filter,
30:47
they'd change, you could tell them
30:48
to look at the cabin filter,
30:50
after you get the glove box fixed,
30:52
they can look at the cabin filter
30:54
and they'll change the oil filter right along with it.
30:58
Okay, thank you, coach.
31:00
And don't forget the air filter,
31:02
but make sure they check the air filter for you.
31:04
They all filter, yes, right, they all filter.
31:10
Thank you so much, Vy.
31:11
Mike and Jackson, do not go anywhere,
31:14
I need you to kick off the second segment for me, okay?
31:18
The number 1877 MPB ring, that's 1877-672-7464,
31:24
our email address where you can send questions

31:28
It's first Thursdays making models,
31:30
we're talking Kia between your car repair questions.
31:33
What's in the news?
31:34
Kia just had its best month ever.
31:36
Take that, Ford, another sales milestone.
31:40
I'll tell you more next.
31:42
Thank you for listening to AutoCorrect
31:43
on MPB Think Radio.

32:17
Let's go to the phone lines.
32:18
We've got Mike and Jackson on the line.
32:20
He's got a comment on our auto lock talk.
32:23
Mike, you're on with Coach Charlie.
32:26
Hey, how you guys doing this morning?
32:29
I've actually been in studio twice
32:32
as the auto glass technician.
32:35
Back when Allison was doing the same thing.
32:39
I still listen all the time, but...
32:42
I'm pretty, I'm pretty, yeah.
32:44
We need to get you back in here.
32:47
That's all I watch on TV.
32:48
Mike, you heard Coach.
32:50
He said we need to get you back in here.
32:51
We need to get you back in here
32:52
and we need to talk about some auto glass.
32:55
And I hear stuff come in on, you know,
32:58
callers call in all the time and stuff.
33:00
And I'm like, oh, I need to be able to talk to them.
33:02
But it's usually at, you know,
33:03
the last 10 minutes of the shows.
33:04
I know I can't get in, but anyway.
33:07
So I'm pretty convinced that every,
33:10
because I take apart a ton of doors,
33:12
you know, putting door glasses in and whatnot.
33:13
And I'm pretty convinced
33:14
that there's a mechanical way to unlock the door.
33:17
It just, you know, just say the power goes out
33:19
and there's something with a front-end crash or whatever.
33:22
You know, Ford's usually got the little pin
33:24
that sort of sticks up the top of the door,
33:27
but all the Japanese cars, I know for sure,
33:30
have the little latch right beside
33:31
where you open the door from the inside.
33:34
And, you know, on a lot of cars,
33:36
you just pull the handle it or unlock the door.
33:39
There's gotta be a way.
33:41
I don't think that the door lock actuator
33:44
is gonna have to be functioning
33:46
to be able to get the door unlocked.
33:48
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
33:49
Now the rear doors will have
33:51
like the child lock thing going on.
33:54
So, you know, if you're in the back seat
33:55
and you're an adult,
33:56
it makes you turn that off if that's a fear of yours,
33:58
get stuck in the car or whatever, but I can't see there.
34:02
You know, if you're on the passenger side,
34:03
you're gonna be able to get out that car.
34:04
Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
34:05
You need to go to your owner's manual
34:06
and read the manual itself about the door locks.
34:09
And you know, we're gonna have a show on owner's manual
34:13
and we're gonna talk about all of that stuff
34:15
because the thing is,
34:16
if you don't read your owner's manual,
34:18
you're not gonna know where all these things are.
34:20
Just like you said,
34:21
there has to be a way to get out of them.
34:24
You know, the manufacturer had to think about that
34:28
I know my dad, my dad's got an F-150.
34:30
I could, probably, you know, 18, 16, 18, something like that.
34:34
And if you're in the rear of it,
34:36
you do have to just squeeze the handle.
34:38
If you don't squeeze it once,
34:39
it's fine, you don't have to squeeze it twice.
34:41
But the front doors don't do that.
34:43
So that may be a child feature thing, I don't know.
34:45
Yeah, cause I got a 2000, I got a 2010 F-150
34:50
and you can't open the passenger side
34:53
if you're driving, if you don't unlock it.
34:58
With the electric lock?
35:01
If you had to get out of the door,
35:03
you open your door because you had to push twice
35:10
I got you, I got you.
35:12
Well, that's good stuff.
35:12
I'm gonna hang on my ear and let you guys get in number.
35:15
I would like to come back and get on with it.
35:17
Yeah, I snatched a little bit of it,
35:20
but can you get his info for me, Marissa or?
35:24
Yeah, I think Marissa's in there.
35:26
I'll put him back on hold and we'll get his info.
35:29
You don't have to say it, Mike, you don't have to say it.
35:32
But grab the company for me.
35:34
We'll wait till I get on my, and then you can plug me.
35:36
Okay, thank you so much.
35:38
Thanks, Mike, thanks for your call.
35:40
Oh, and speaking of calls,
35:42
we had a call from Kenny and Brandon.
35:45
His wife, I think his wife purchased it
35:48
or either he purchased it for her.
35:50
It was a Kia 2012 Sorento and he says she loves it.
35:54
Well, you don't like to say the guy that,
35:55
I know that has the real,
35:57
he would not get rid of that vehicle at all.
36:00
He ended up giving it to his mama
36:02
after he drove it for 10 years.
36:04
And his mama drives it now, it's still going.
36:06
Well, Kenny's wife and Brandon's driving her Sorento
36:09
and she loves that thing.
36:10
You know, I think what gets people,
36:12
some people say, well, it's from South Korea.
36:16
You know, we got this tariff stuff going on.
36:19
You know, yes, you can get parts for all the vehicles,
36:22
especially the newer ones.
36:23
Now, if you start thinking about the older vehicles,
36:26
you may not be able to get parts.
36:27
They're hard to come by.
36:28
You know, on a lot of older vehicles,
36:30
just because they're older vehicles,
36:33
not because tariff's not for anything.
36:34
It's just older vehicles.
36:37
It's just like most dealerships
36:39
don't want to work on a vehicle
36:40
that's five, six, seven years old.
36:42
They want new vehicles.
36:44
They don't want 10 years old.
36:45
You're really not going to get a dealership
36:47
to really work on it unless you know them.
36:49
That was like, what's the name?
36:54
It was a Toyota, yeah.
36:56
2007, just like that.
36:58
Okay, here's what's in the news today.
37:01
Kia just had its best month ever coach.
37:05
Kia sold more than 80,000 cars
37:08
in a single month for the first time.
37:11
So they say if the auto industry
37:12
is facing a potential downturn,
37:14
it's not affecting Kia in the slightest.
37:16
It just posted its best monthly sales reports
37:19
and sales for the brand were up 10.4% last month
37:23
compared to August of 2024
37:25
and they're up 8.4% for the year.
37:29
Kia has sold well over half a million cars
37:31
so far this year and August sales
37:33
are a continuation of the automakers very strong year.
37:38
Its sales results from the first six months of 2012
37:41
was a milestone and it just seems like
37:43
sales just keep booming.
37:45
Now, while several Kia models
37:47
experience significant increases
37:48
compared to August of 24,
37:50
sales for the K4 Forte,
37:54
Seltos and Sorento actually declined by a few hundred units.
37:59
Sales of all three vehicles are up for the year
38:01
which can't be said for Kia's EVs.
38:05
But it's an affordable lineup.
38:07
Kia offer six models that start at under $30,000.
38:14
That's 30,000 is like the new 15,000.
38:19
Just wanna make sure that if you start,
38:21
if you go in there and you say
38:22
you want one for $30,000,
38:24
now they'll start adding things onto it
38:26
and it's gonna cost you more than 30,000
38:28
when it's all over.
38:30
You can include options like sedan hybrids
38:32
and crossovers in this lineup,
38:34
but they did, the Carnival remains
38:38
the cheapest minivan on sale
38:40
that starts just under 40,000
38:42
and the K4 sedan starts at just over $23,000.
38:48
And then in the lineup for August,
38:51
well not for, I guess yeah, August 2025 sales
38:54
because that's where their milestone hit,
38:57
the Sportage was the number one seller in August
39:01
and is also the number one seller year to date.
39:05
I would think they'd sell over 100,000 on Mississippi.
39:09
One year to date across the nation,
39:15
but yeah, there's 100,000 Kia Sportages
39:18
in Mississippi on the road right now.
39:21
Everybody got them.
39:22
Followed by the Telluride, the Forte,
39:25
the Sorrento, the Carnival, the K5,
39:28
the Solto, the Sol is a little bit down on the list,
39:31
Nero, EV9 and the EV6.
39:34
Well, you know, it takes a special person to drive a Sol.
39:38
You know, they had to look like a hamster maybe.
39:40
That's what we've determined.
39:43
That's what we say, you know,
39:44
Kevin looks a little bit like a fuzzy hamster.
39:49
Kevin, Ava and I did not say that.
39:52
Ava and I did not say that.
39:54
Gotta start sweating over here.
39:58
But I said a fuzzy.
40:01
We love Kevin, yes,
40:02
and we'll include a link to the fuzzy hamster's story
40:07
and our show's podcast description.
40:10
Coach, I wanted to get into,
40:12
and it's just sitting on the top of my mind
40:13
because you had told me a little while ago in the show
40:16
about Kia and the anti-theft issue
40:20
because we got on the door locks
40:21
and then you were like, yeah, Kia had that issue.
40:23
Remember Jermaine, it was a recall
40:25
and I was like, I said that and I did.
40:28
And now they're trying to maybe fix it a little bit.
40:32
Yeah, either last year or several months ago
40:34
we were talking about and there was a recall
40:37
on the anti-theft systems
40:40
and they were telling us that they were giving clubs out
40:43
so they could lock their vehicles.
40:44
Yes, I remember that, I remember that.
40:46
And you know, because there were certain years
40:49
and models that did not have anti-lock
40:52
and mobilizers in there.
40:53
What it was is engine mobilizers
40:55
where you couldn't crank the vehicle up, okay?
40:57
And the insurance company started, decided that, well,
41:01
if we can, if our vehicles could be installed
41:03
and we're not gonna take and insure them,
41:06
all state, progressive, a couple others
41:09
that would not, State Farm would not insure the vehicle
41:13
or they would not give the full coverage of the vehicle
41:17
because they were easy to steal.
41:19
So they do not list the trend,
41:23
the theft trend that happened
41:25
that was partly popularized by a social media trend
41:29
that led to the significant increase in key of thefts.
41:32
They did not say what that trend was,
41:35
but coach kinda knows.
41:37
I know what that trend is.
41:39
All you had to have is a USB cable for the computer
41:43
and a screwdriver and you could steal that vehicle.
41:46
Okay, don't say no more.
41:48
But now, now they have changed that
41:51
where they have, where you could get different software
41:55
so nobody could steal that vehicle.
41:57
So they, all you had to do is just turn your VIN number,
41:59
call in the Kia Corporation, give them your VIN number
42:04
and see if your vehicle is eligible for that upgrade
42:07
so nobody can steal that vehicle.
42:09
So Kenny and Brandon, if you're still listening,
42:12
your wife drives a 2012 Kia Sorento.
42:16
These recalls were for specific models
42:19
primarily from 2011 to 2022 that lack
42:24
that immobilizer that coach is talking about.
42:27
So if you have not gone in for your recall,
42:31
have not looked up this recall,
42:34
Kia does provide that software update
42:37
and in some cases an engine immobilizer installation.
42:42
Yeah, you know, it just was really funny
42:43
how they were just giving clubs out
42:45
to they were sending you a stern wheel lock.
42:48
So they couldn't steal the vehicle.
42:51
But like I say, I told you what they were using
42:54
but you got to know how to do it, you know,
42:57
everyday person's not just gonna come
42:58
and steal your vehicle
42:59
because they don't know how to do it.
43:00
Right, so here's something that is a little,
43:03
you know, it'll settle you a little bit.
43:05
Kia is working on a class action settlement
43:07
and offering steering wheel locks to effective owners.
43:11
Once again, the club.
43:12
Yeah, the club, but possibly you'll get
43:16
a settlement check maybe one day.
43:18
Well, that's true too.
43:19
Yeah, you may get a settlement check.
43:20
If you've got your name in the pot.
43:22
Yeah, if you've got your name in a pot.
43:23
So your name's got to be in two pots.
43:25
Recall pot, settlement pot.
43:28
That's it, that is it.
43:29
All right, coach, we're gonna head to a quick break.
43:31
When we come back, we're gonna finish up
43:33
our Kia Talk, the number 1877 MPB ring.
43:37
That's 1877-672-7464.
43:40

43:43
Here's a new car review from Casey Williams
43:45
and coach's tip of the week is coming up.
43:47
This is AutoCorrect on MPB Think Radio.
43:49
Here's a new car review from Casey Williams.
43:52
It's AutoCasey on AutoCorrect.
43:54
For automakers crazy enough to sell a compact sedan
43:57
in a crossover world, they better go bold or go home.
43:59
And that's what Kia did with the 2025 K-Force sedan.
44:03
This is the GT line, it's a sport package,
44:05
it's got the 18 inch alloy wheels.
44:07
But I like the design features too.
44:09
The vertical headlamps, the kind of angle driving lamps,
44:11
the vertical rear window line looks really cool.
44:14
Inside, you have a twin screen arrangement,
44:16
everything's crisp, easy to connect all your devices
44:18
wirelessly, wireless charging.
44:20
You got a Harman car and audio,
44:21
heated ventilated front seats,
44:23
and all the crash avoidance systems.
44:24
Underneath the hood, this has a two liter
44:26
four cylinder engine.
44:28
There is a turbo available, this one doesn't have it,
44:30
has 147 horsepower, 132 pound feet of torque.
44:33
But getting a smaller engine,
44:35
you also get really good gas mileage.
44:37
29 miles per gallon of city, 39 on the highway.
44:40
So let's talk about price
44:41
because this is a pretty affordable car.
44:43
K-Force starts under $22,000.
44:45
This one all in, $28,365.
44:49
See the full video on his YouTube channel, AutoCasey,

45:03
AutoCorrect is heard on MPB Think Radio Thursdays

45:08
And after the show today at 11,
45:10
it's Southern Remedy Kids and Teens
45:12
with Dr. Morgan McLeod.
45:14
I'm Jermaine Flood, our expert
45:15
is Coach Charlie Melton, ASC Master Technician,
45:18
and it's time for Coach Charlie's tip of the week.
45:21
You know, when we talk about the making models
45:24
of each month, we talk about different vehicles.
45:26
The reason we talk about different vehicles
45:27
because we wanna give you a open mind
45:30
of what you may want as a consumer
45:32
to buy from automobile manufacturers.
45:36
So I looked at here with the most dependable car
45:41
for Kia right now is the Sportage.
45:44
It has less maintenance than any Kia vehicle,
45:48
but there was a couple that I wanted to mention
45:50
that they didn't hold their value very well.
45:54
And Kia, and the ones that held their value,
45:56
would you believe what two vehicles
45:58
you think holds their value the best?
46:08
Those two hold their value the best
46:11
and the Condenza and they,
46:14
and there's another one,
46:16
they depreciate real quickly.
46:20
So when you think about what you're buying,
46:22
so that's the tip of the week is that,
46:24
hey, we give you the information,
46:27
you look up the information,
46:29
you do the research of the information
46:31
and make the best choice for you.
46:35
Yeah, that's good stuff.
46:36
That's good stuff, Coach.
46:38
And then you had the most dependable.
46:42
that was the Sportage.
46:43
That was the Sportage, okay.
46:44
But did you know that Kia supplies all of the vehicles
46:49
for the South Korea military?
46:52
And 10 other nations.
46:55
All their vehicles.
46:56
For the militaries.
46:57
For the militaries.
46:58
Wow, look at Kia go.
47:02
So Kia got, we got over World War II
47:04
and the next thing you know,
47:05
Kia comes in the house and takes over.
47:09
it does include some of those diesel vehicles
47:11
that they have as well.
47:13
they came out with a diesel engine.
47:15
Don't really see them in the United States.
47:17
You probably see them over in Europe.
47:19
I really haven't seen a Kia diesel in the United States,
47:21
but you probably have them over there in Europe
47:23
all the time because that's all they run is diesels.
47:26
They don't really run gasoline vehicles very much.
47:28
But yeah, so you know,
47:30
a lot of the military equipment runs off diesels.
47:33
So I'm sure that they have developed a diesel engine
47:36
that would run for that.
47:38
And then insurance wise,
47:40
we talked about that a little bit on the break.
47:42
Well, insurance, like I say,
47:43
just make sure that your vehicle can be fully covered,
47:46
you know, because you go on uninsured motors,
47:49
you want to make sure that you have,
47:50
if it's a newer vehicle,
47:51
you can get comprehension collision
47:53
and it is up to the price of that vehicle.
47:56
Because some insurances because of the
48:00
theft of the vehicles will not give you
48:02
as the coverage you need.
48:06
So you want to make sure.
48:07
And I say, you know,
48:07
when you start talking about these vehicles,
48:09
you know, kids or any vehicle,
48:11
since we're talking about kids today,
48:13
be aware of what other people say
48:16
about the vehicle that you're driving.
48:19
And make sure that you do your research after that
48:21
and make your mind up, you know,
48:23
because a lot of times you need to make your own mind up.
48:25
Don't let somebody else sell you something
48:26
or not sell you something.
48:28
And I feel very good about Kia today
48:30
after speaking with Coach Charlie, Abram and Kevin.
48:33
My heart is touched.
48:34
I feel so good about it.
48:36
It was such a good day.
48:38
And even Kenny and Brandon,
48:39
because his wife loves her cars.
48:41
Well, Abram thought I was going to come here
48:43
and just dog kids out, you know.
48:46
Look, I had my coffee.
48:47
I had a nice breakfast and some medicine this morning.
48:50
I was prepared for anything.
48:51
But I just showed you, I can be nice.
48:57
And that'll wrap us up today for Today's AutoCorrect.
49:00
Our show engineer, of course, Abram Nanny
49:02
calls screener Marissa Vaughn
49:04
and for Coach Charlie Melton Master Technician,
49:07
who will be on the show next time, Jermaine Flood.
49:09
Next week, it's owner's manual 101.
49:13
Yes, and everybody needs to listen in.
49:17
Coach will answer all your questions.
