Welcome to the Pints and Polishing Podcast, the most influential and listened-to podcast in
auto-detailing.
Welcome to the community.
Hey, how many out there are fishermen?
You know, Nick and I aren't, we're both city boys, and this is not a fishing podcast.
So wrong one if you thought it was, but how many are fishermen?
How many do you like to fish?
I used to fish back in the day, but I was a pond-fisher.
I want to give you an analogy here, right, because I'm going to go into what I consider this to
be the best week of detailing, but to be the best, you've also got to have the worst and
the worst feelings in detailing.
We'll go over some posts that we're going to go into later of messing up cars and
some really rough times, but there's also, like, rough weeks, sort of like an old fishing
pond that my buddy used to have that dried up, right, or, you know, you hear stories
where people are like, yeah, we can't go over there anymore.
No more fish there.
They ain't biting.
Right?
That's a terrible time.
It's a terrible time.
But why is this week my favorite week in detailing?
Because I think it's more like, Nick, you ever see those bears sitting at the river
like just grabbing salmon as they, like, swim, it's like, to me, that's what this week
is all about.
Number one, all right, let's go over three reasons why I consider this the best
week in detailing.
Nick, number one, it goes along with that right there.
What does your week look like?
You got three days to cram cars in.
Yeah, I mean, it's very busy.
You know, we, I just had, I think, three new leads come in, had to tell them, hey, this
is, you know, we're weeks out to begin with, and, you know, we're in a position
where we just can't do it.
But yeah, I mean, you have a lot of customers that want to have stuff done before family
gets into town or this happens or that happens, and it's just kind of the normal way
of doing things.
Well, let's go over some of those customers and these people coming into town because it
is always the moment around Thanksgiving.
How do weekend interesting, right?
Had a problem Friday night with a van hitting a wall.
So it was over at some, some man's house and he was saying, well, we got cost people
coming in for Thanksgiving, right?
He's always the thing that people say, well, here's the stat.
Come AAA 81.8 million people in America will travel at least 50 miles.
Yeah, sounds right.
That's a lot of people.
That's a lot of people needing cars cleaned as well as in the people coming over.
I didn't got people hitting me up to get cars done this week.
Yeah.
I mean, it's awesome, right?
Do you not just wait for these stuff?
Like to me, it's one of the best parts.
Like you're just so jam packed and there's so much to do.
Yeah, I think there's a variety.
I think if you're younger in business, this is a definitely a week that you would look
forward to for, for us, it's, it becomes more problematic, you know, because you don't want
to blow people off.
You don't want to do those types of things, but you also got to prioritize who your loyal
clients are, who really has priority and, you know, I think 15 years in our view
of these types of weeks is a little different because we just have more time in the
industry, right?
We just have more time.
Cause I bet you there are some people that are starting to go, well, yeah, I got some
people calling, but I don't have room.
How do we handle that?
Well, if you're young in business, this would be the time to work extra.
If I, when I was young in business, I didn't take Friday off, you know, I think
there's a lot of people that make a whole weekend, it's their life.
I mean, I'm not, not judging on that, but, you know, you're going to go
into times of December and January, especially in cold weather climates where this
is probably the last real time you could really bust some heads and get real big
returns.
So I think a lot of people mismanaged these times.
And I can just tell people what I did, you know, my first seven, eight years in
business, I never took the Friday and Saturday off after Thanksgiving.
I just kept working and, you know, that, that is what it is.
I only took Thursday off because you weren't allowed places, right?
So I think a lot of people feel differently than that.
But obviously at this point, you know, my team will work Monday through
Wednesday, they'll get the rest of the week off.
But that's sort of earned more than anything, uh, just because, you know,
our length of time in business.
I think a lot of people misuse these weeks.
Seems like a lot of people go on vacation for the whole week, their decision.
But, you know, probably you need to really analyze your business.
If you're young in business and not taking advantage.
You know, you mentioned maybe working some later hours, right?
Like it is a way to do it.
If you guys go, Hey, listen, we don't have enough in our normal schedule.
Well, yeah, this isn't a normal week.
I mean, this is the time to cram as much as you can in to tell the family.
Hey, relax.
I'll see you Thursday.
We got plenty, you know, right?
We got plenty coming.
So we can't shoo him away right now.
Like, yeah, this is the time.
Yeah, it's just wherever you're at in business and finance and what you're
willing, but, you know, I always find it what we're going to see.
And, you know, you know, this as well as anybody is about the middle
of December, people will start complaining about business.
But then you look at their Thanksgiving week and they didn't really work all
that much, but that's not us.
I mean, my guys will be, I don't know.
They'll probably work a lot of 12, 13, 14 hour days here Monday through Wednesday.
Yeah, gotta do it, gotta do it.
All right.
Number two, why it's my favorite week.
Come on.
It's that Friday, Black Friday and then Cyber Monday.
I know that's the next week.
So some people are going to be like, that doesn't count.
Geez, come on, Black Friday.
I, you know, as a detailer, I'm not sure how many people really, when I was a
detailer, really cared.
I don't, I don't know if detailers cared much about it until gift cards and
online shopping started happening, you know, and then that took a while.
I'd say it probably hasn't even been till the past five years where
detailers really valued what they could gain out of Black Friday of selling
gift cards or selling service, something, you know, we're seeing already,
you know, great deals, great ads.
You know, I, I since you and I, I've sent some other people, some ads,
people send me some stuff.
It is interesting the way people will market during these times, you know,
and what, uh, what their voice is going to be, but there's no doubt that
definitely Black Friday has become a giant day, not for just the rest
of the world, but also in detailing this week and Black Friday, a lot
of deals, a lot of sales, a lot of commerce going on.
Yeah.
And we, we've kind of talked about it, I think over the last two to
three years, you see a lot of retailers panic.
They're now not only doing the week of, they're doing the month of there.
I mean, all of that stuff kind of tells you the lack of health and certain
people's businesses.
We always talk about paying attention, right?
When, when people feel like they got to run a whole month, the Black Friday
deals doesn't matter the business Home Depot or, uh, you know, a supplier
or whoever mess shows you a little warning sign that maybe things
aren't so good for them.
Uh, this is the time of year.
You know, we don't do a whole lot of sales at hyper clean.
We, we, uh, you know, pride ourselves on providing a lot of value, but
this is a time to say thanks to all you guys and gals that support us.
And we do run Black Friday.
Uh, it'll be, you know, Wednesday through Monday, uh, you'd be able to
get 15% off.
And I think, you know, what you'll see from us, we got a hoodie
coming, uh, that'll be a part of Black Friday.
Those are limited guys.
We don't bring in, you know, hundreds and thousands of those things.
And so we just like to, to, you know, provide a little something to
purchase on top of normal stuff.
But I think this is just one of those times that everybody, uh, you
know, us included, we're trying to fill out some things here, uh, you
know, for the garage here in Vegas.
And so we're looking around and I find it interesting.
I mean, the high value things that you may want to buy don't seem
to have the deals as the low end consumerism stuff, you know,
Walmart's and, you know, easy quick things at Home Depot or Lowe's.
You know, you start getting into those really high ticket items.
It's still a pretty, pretty steady marketplace.
I'm glad you said that about, uh, about your shop, right?
Like that's something I do want us all to think about the, I took, uh,
as a detailer, not only, you know, like I said, I valued commerce and
exchange, but I also valued my comma, what I could get on Black Friday.
Right? Like I, I always went after electronics because that was the time
they were, you know, we're talking 10, 15 years ago, you know, that, that
time, uh, there was a moment I did the, the best pie.
Did you ever do the sit out and wait for hours?
Don't ask those questions.
No, I did not do that.
Just so I clear, I tell people this all the time, who you hear
on this podcast is exactly what I've done.
I'm not going to sit out in the cold to get a, you know,
Nintendo switch at, you know, 10% off.
No, I'm not going to do that because I just wanted, like part of
me wanted to, and I wanted this tablet because I was going to use
the tablet to put, you know, an invoicing system on it and that
type of stuff.
So, uh, I was an early adapter into that and, and I wanted to
get a deal and I wanted the experience of what, I mean, I'd
seen everybody do it.
So I was like, yeah, that's, you know, and again, I mean,
we kind of say this, some of this stuff, the funds been taken
out of it, right?
It's now just become this, what seems like to me, I mean, some
of this stuff, I feel like I was seeing in October.
I mean, I don't know what it is.
Like this stuff is just, is just so out of control.
You can't, I can't keep up with it.
Like who's running what deal and who's doing what?
But like, you know, I never did the gift card thing in
my business.
I just, you know, that wasn't, first of all, it
really wasn't a big thing 15 years ago.
But by the time it came a big thing, when I started
thinking through it, it just felt like a nightmare, you
know, with, with people coming back in May and, you
know, then the way those people sort of act in your, in a
service-based business, you just hear the horror
stories.
So I, to be fair, like, we're really looking at some
tools and some different things.
But, you know, for anybody out there, great time to
save on, on, on things in our store.
And I think we look at it a little bit differently than
most companies now is like, Hey, we just want to give a
thank you, you know, you guys have supported us all
year.
It's a nice time to stock up.
And that's kind of how we roll with it.
Yeah, it is the time.
Uh, the guy, what's the guy that owns the Mavericks on
Shark Tank?
Yeah, he doesn't own them anymore.
Mark Cuban.
Cuban.
Okay.
Ex-owner.
Yeah.
Thanks.
Yeah.
Uh, he, he said publicly many times, there was my
adaption into why I started buying.
He goes, Listen, this is your time to, if you're
something you need, why would you not use your money wisely
on a day when everybody's going to give you a deal?
Like yeah, and let's say, let's say maybe one of the
reasons he sold his Maverick stock at half price for
some strange reason that's never been reported.
He also tells you to buy a year worth of toothpaste at
a time.
So let's all take Mark Cuban with a grain of salt at
times.
Smart guy, but let's all buy a year of toothpaste on
Black Friday.
I might, I might just dodge that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's a good, good call on that.
All right.
So I want everybody to do number three.
Why, uh, I believe this week is the most important
week in detailing.
I want everybody to raise a glass, uh, if you're
driving, Hank, a hawk, a horn.
And, uh, if you are detailing, just spray
something up in the air, right?
Pour out a bottle for the homies.
How about that one?
Well, I just go ahead and pour out the bottle that
you got in your hand.
I'm joking, but, uh, this week is also my favorite
time for detailing because this commemorates our
fifth year together in business.
Nick, it's crazy.
I mean, it, one of the hardest things to believe,
isn't it?
Like it really, I know all you listening, you
know, if you have kids, you can't believe
when it's five years of, you know, marriage,
you can't believe how many years, but the same
goes in business.
Like you just look up and you go, oh, five
years is gone.
Uh, and in a good way, right?
Like we've come a long way and, I mean, I, I had no
idea and we can share it with everybody.
Like we had no idea we'd be doing the things
internally that we're doing now.
We weren't even thinking about them five years
ago.
Like that's how long five years is.
Five years is so long that sometimes you get
to the fifth year at the end of the fifth
year and you go, yeah, we didn't even think
about this five years ago.
So that's why, that's why when people
asked me, do I set goals?
I go, I never really understood them
because every part of my life, it's like, well,
I was just in such a different place, 18 months
from that point, I just never understood how
to make all that work.
Hmm.
Well, that is, uh, that is wisdom of Nick.
Uh, the cool thing I, I think over the years
that we've developed and you know, there's
always, right, there's ebbs and flows as we
know, but as we, I've said on a regular
basis that I feel our logo is symbolic to,
to you and I, right?
You, we both think differently, very differently.
Well, we come together over car care, right?
We, we've somehow found something that we
both love and this is what we, I think
you even said last week, like we've got
10 year plan of something we're trying
to get evolved, right?
Like it's something, it goes beyond that
P word, that passion word.
It's not that it, it's life, right?
I mean, it, it is this weekend being
out at tire shops and then being and
talking to some other guy about his car
and going, yeah, man, I don't know how
many leaders. That's not who I am, but
I love the car, man.
Well, they didn't tell me about it, right?
Like that, that is to me what I think
ultimately is, is our biggest, uh, win
together is we both found, uh, somebody
that, that has great mindset together.
And we both enjoy a, a hobby.
Yeah. And I would, I would say the
important thing that, that I think
we could share with everybody out
there, maybe you're working with
somebody, you guys both own a shop
together or whatever.
And you and I find it more and more
rare and things we get involved in
is you got to, you got to find people
that are willing to do the work.
Yeah, great.
That's probably been the five year
less, still looking damn it.
Somebody help them out.
Yeah. I mean, is somebody going
to get up and go to work every day?
Are they going to stay late?
Are they going to do what they
have to do?
All right. Like you said, are they
going to, I'm on a weekend?
Everybody else is with their family.
I'm going to go work on something.
Hey, I'm on a phone call.
Hey, we're getting up overnight to
talk to somebody overseas.
You know, it seems easy from the
outside, right?
And this is kind of one of the
things. I mean, the word we, we
latched on to, I see it becoming
more popular now for some reason
is purpose.
You know, our purpose is to build
a company.
It just happens to be called
hyper clean, but you could put
any name there.
Uh, and I think that's what a
lot of people struggle with in
businesses.
It's a lot of getting up in the
morning, doing the same thing over
and over and over and over again.
And, but you still have to get up
at the same time.
You still have to go to work.
And then when things come up, you
got to stay and you got to get
them figured out.
You got to say, Hey, I worked
a long day and you got to be
okay with it and go do it the
next day, right?
And that's, that's what I saw a
lot of people at SEMA.
We get a lot of messages.
We got a lot of emails.
We get a lot of text messages
of people struggling.
And it normally always comes
back to they don't just
consistently do the work.
And that's probably the story of
the last five years is like
to sit here and think anybody's
that much more special than the
next guy.
That doesn't happen.
Like most of us are not getting
by on talent.
I mean, let me make that clear
to everybody.
You're going to get by on doing
the work or not doing the work
and there's going to be a
result to both.
And I think there's a big divide
in the world now about that.
So just the same as like a
runner gets to a runner's
hide, right?
There's almost in a sense as
you mentioned I thought of
hearing you talk about I just
pictured, you know, the the
thunder basketball, of course,
right?
Like the bison just
bouncing his drum.
You know, it's like you need a
rhythm in a sense.
You need that.
Wake up here.
Do this here.
Yep.
Do the end and this rhythm
through your week where it's
just like a and then what
happens is that rhythm can
get faster if it wants.
Yeah, the rhythm can stay
consistent.
But either way, through all the
trajectory, you've got to
you've got something moving
this regular thing that you're
doing, I want to comment
you on more people
because I know we're going to
have an end of the year
episode, you know, what to
look out in 2026.
And, you know, I'm really
excited about what's coming
out of out of your mind, out
of your creativity and in
you working with the marketing
team, right?
Like what you guys have been
doing over the past years
going to have that rhythm
and blossom in 26 that
we're going to see this really
really cool beat, I think.
Yeah, and I think to share
with everybody kind of some
things that are coming is I
think we're going to do some
things that aren't
necessarily being done by
brands in car care, right?
Like one of the things if
you guys aren't following
clutch culture is like one of
the things that we found that
we actually found through
pints and polishing of doing
these car episodes, right?
We were doing I was doing
them solo when you're doing
two episodes is that we
realized there's a lot of
people that aren't going to
find us and the people that
follow us and the people that
have this, you know, love
for doing car care type
stuff, you know, you take
for granted that the average
car person just doesn't even
know you exist.
They just don't I mean for
all the people out there
that detail their own car
detail for a living, we
just take for granted
everybody is like us and
we're probably the smallest
part of the car world, you
know, there's a bunch of
niches, right?
But as a niche, we're very
small. And so we're starting
to work on products that
reach out to those types of
people, bring them into our
network of professionals
and like-minded people.
And for those that don't
know, I mean clutch
culture gets millions upon
millions of views every
month now. And it really
has for the better part
of the whole year, you
know, starting actually, you
know, Rob, who's on our team
just messaged us, we have
another thing going viral,
the exact same time it went
viral last year, basically,
which is unbelievable, you
know, totally different
subject. But I think we're
able to see how all of these
worlds are divided and not
talking to one another.
And I think now the cool
part is, we all get to
share what washing your car
is, you know, how do you
make it look better?
How do you do this?
How do you, because of all
of us that sit in this tiny
niche, we don't realize the
other 95, 98% of people
have no idea about any of
it. So are you doing, you
know, clutch culture, is it
the David Stern approach,
right? You're doing the
shock and wow? Or, you
know, when people go over
and listen to you there, how
different are you from
when you're here?
No, I hopefully what
people, and I think this
is what makes us unique is
none of this is an act. You
know, a lot of people you
see making content or
putting on an act.
And then they put out
their bloopers of putting
on an act and you go,
what? Yeah, yeah. I mean,
and I'm okay with all
that. I think what we
kind of see, and I hope
people see this about
our culture is I don't
believe in the act. I
think that has a very,
very like number one, and
we've talked to some of
these automotive YouTubers
that are very big, like a
lot of these people have
like mental health issues
because they're like
literally living two
different lives. I don't
think people realize that
I think that's happening
a lot all over social
media. We all love to
focus on detailing social
media, which I think you
and I largely have stepped
out of, Hey, this guy
said this and this guy
whatever, man, it's their
channel. It's their
TikTok. They can say what
they want. We'll address
some things that go viral
when, you know, like, you
know, people saying
things about SDS sheets
that aren't true that we
can actually educate you
guys on. But for the most
part, that stuff just
doesn't have the impact
everybody thinks it
does. I mean, it's more
negative than anything. And
I think, you know, to
your point, it seems
that our authenticity
is selling to the car
community. And that's what
I would say for any of you
people who are trying to,
you know, trying to build
a shop or build some type
of business that might not
be automotive related. The
part everybody leaves out
about social media is the
only thing that has staying
power is you being
authentic. And so there's
a lot of people that call
us and go, Well, I
don't know how to make,
you know, content. I'm
just going to give you
the best you just got to
turn the microphone on at
some point. Because I
got news for you. The
first stuff you do is
not going to be great. It's
all right, dude. It's not I
mean it. It's all right. But
you got to get the reps. But
you also got to be
yourself. And you got to
realize that you're trying
to explain things as
simply as you can not
nerd out all the time and
speak detailing talk and all
that kind of stuff. And
that's been the learning
lesson, right is like,
how do we be authentically
us at clutch culture
here or wherever we do. And
what is that going to
carry us long term? And I
think with the growth we
see inside of our company,
it's done it on a variety
of ways.
No, it's awesome. I'm so
looking forward to what's
coming next and the hoodie. Go
and explain the hoodie.
Yeah, we're going to we're
going to do a clutch culture
release. Basically, we're
going to take the clutch
culture, you know, logo.
It's going to be on the
front and back. Very
simple. Something you guys
can wear around. One of
the things I wanted was we
have like metal on the end
of the the strings on the
hoodie. So those will last a
little longer. They won't get
frayed up and things like
that. But it's just like
you guys know from us. If I
won't wear it. It's not
it's not making it. Right. I
mean, we even had this with
some hat situations. The
one hat I want to build
we're having trouble
getting because of some
things in the government
and tariffs and delivery
times and things like that.
So we're we wanted to
release a hat and a sweatshirt
but the hat we're waiting
on is going to have to come
at a different time when we
actually get the hat. And
that's I want people to
hear this. That's all on me
because if I won't wear it,
I literally won't put it in
the store. And it the same
goes for our products, by
the way, which Marty has
found out sort of the hard
way to the detriment of HQ
at times. Like if I won't
use it, it's not it's
not happening. Like it and
that has caused issues.
But I think that's what
you guys want in the end is
if I won't use it, if Marty
wouldn't use it, it shouldn't
be something that we put out.
Yeah, that is the fun times
though, when you go like,
listen, I don't ever use a
product like this. So I got
no opinion. Yeah. Like, cool.
Yeah. Me and my testers, we
got it. Yeah, like, yeah, I
mean, there's just certain
things I'm not going to
use. And so we have to
rely on a network and say,
hey, does this fit what you
guys are using with this
product? Because I don't run
into everything. There's a lot
of you guys that don't run
into the things we run into
in the desert. Right. And so
we have to be in the fun
part of these types of
conversation guys is that this
is literally behind the
curtain. I mean, this is how
we would talk to one
another. You know, nothing
is different. And I think
that's what what hopefully
everybody kind of picks up
on when it comes to what
we're trying to do.
Yeah. And like you mentioned
the desert, and there are
times where you've gone,
dude, this is terrible. And
I'm like, Oh, here two days
ago, overnighted it to you
here in the humidity of
Oklahoma. It was awesome. Yep.
Right. So a lot of times
it's not just a picky. It's
also about the environment
which we do say, you know, we
joke that people say it, but
it is true. I mean,
environments in different
places are different. Now
you apparently got better
rainbows than some people.
I guess big rainbow week,
big rainbow week out here
in the desert. First time
since I've lived here, we
had a week of rain. We never
got a break. I mean, nobody
has rain like us. We're now
one week of straight rain. No
snow, although about 45
minutes from my house, I
think they got like something
like 10 or 20 feet during
that week or something.
Feet? Supposedly. I haven't
been up there. They I mean,
they had to check you for
chains on your tires like
they had already put in
all those rules. So looks
like it'd be a good ski
winter, you know, for all
of you that ski out here. But
yeah, no, it and it is kind
of wild. I mean, when you put
stuff in the desert air and
then you put stuff in
humidity and then you put
stuff in Southern
California or you put stuff
in Texas or whatever, you
know, that's part of our
whole program is to see how
this stuff reacts in all
these different places. Yeah,
it is. So, you know, like
I said, we'll do it end of
26 thing. But people can
know from out of HQ. Listen,
our testers are really
enjoying some stuff. Yeah,
we got a good, good
product line up. Got some
good stuff coming. You know,
we're excited. We're really
excited about
never mind. We'll see at the
end of that end of the year
episode. And I'm not going to
tell you until the end. All
right. But there was one
last week. Remember we had
we were talking about a
different bottle. We're
like week is about right?
Yeah, there's some really
cool stuff. So I'm
curious, Nick, when you
go get tires for your
work vehicles. Are you a
new tire person or a used
tire? No, no, all new. All
new. I've never I've never
done the used. I see
reasons for it. But yeah,
we've never done that.
And that's I've always
done used. That's crazy,
right? Like, I've literally
always for every work
vehicle that I've owned.
For anybody that follows
clutch culture, I went real
heavy on tires here about
two weeks ago. I had like
six in a matter of like
two days. Oh,
brutal. Yeah, it was
a tough run, Marty. It was
a tough run. It's a tough
run. The only was that
Nissan Envy. That's the
only time I've bought
new tires. But here's the
thing that carried a lot of
weight around. You don't
want it. You don't want it.
So it's like, it's going
to keep new shoes, you
know? Yeah, I it is a
big thing out here. There's
no doubt there. There's a
lot of tire shops that
recycle tires and do those
types of things. Probably
the same in Tulsa. I'm
sure it's everywhere. I
know people that just roll
them off, right? I don't
like those. I want and
they don't resell they they
sell them out of the
dealership or out of the
type of people like this.
You can if you find the
right place, you can get
something with not very
mild. We we got some
really great tires for
$65. Man, man, I did
not get that price. So
maybe I will be a used
tire guy in a few
years ago, when we had
the old shop, we were by
a tire. They were $35 to
$40. But that was free
Corona. So I'm going to
tell you this 200 bucks, a
tire is where we're at.
And that's why I always did
use because I go listen. 200
bucks. There's a chance I'm
gonna get off. I'm going
in and out of the dealerships
or I'm driving. There's a
good chance that tire gets
completely like and too
many holes too many
whatever in two years. So
I just always did the $30
$40 every year or so and
just keep changing them
out. Like it was great.
Yeah, I just haven't gone
down. I don't know what it
is. All I said was I wish
instead of opening up
hyper clean, we'd have
started a rubber factory
evidently because boy, they
believe a lot about these
tires now.
Why they do that? But so
yesterday and I sent you
a picture, it was fun. I
was at and this was this
what you know, you usually
find used tire shops for
those of us that can
understand them, we can
just picture the places and
the locations, the
demographics and the type of
people that were there.
Right. I I meant to send
you the picture of the
crack kids sitting on the
vacuum next to us.
Yep. Oh, he was wild.
He was wild. I
this is the time of year
you sort of see that
behavior taken up tick.
No, no, especially
out here. This is kind of
like the time we see a
little bit of that
behavior up tick and then
it'll start getting cold
and we'll start to see
it wane off. But yeah,
right about now we see
a little bit of craziness.
Well, there in Vegas is
probably crack. Here's
this myth. They can't afford
it's fentanyl where we're
big, you know, we're I
think fent is everywhere
now. So so I was I mean,
it was a great time. I'm
just enjoying the moment.
You know, because I love
those type of play. I don't
care, right? I can just
sit there and watch
people. So yeah, it's
fun. I'm like, okay,
let me let me pop up
Facebook. And I had a
little celebration that
I sent you and I was
excited about something
and had a little
moment. And it's like,
okay, it's cool. You've
been in business long
enough. You get these
moments. Well, next thing
I do, I open up the
hyper clean specialist
page and well, team
Nick's having a hard time
with Alcantara. I mean, I
can't say it right. But
your guys can't clean it
right for some reason.
I'm not sure. Dale, you're
allowed to ask questions.
Evidently, Marty wants
to be, you know, Mr.
No, at all. Didn't even
know we needed revive
till I told them. So
let's let's understand
shots at team Nick
whenever I can. So hey,
Alcantara is a weird
thing. You know, I've seen
a lot of advice about
Alcantara and I've seen a
lot of bad advice about
Alcantara. You work on
vehicles that start to
get to the price points
of a lot of Alcantara. You
better do it properly. Right.
And you better use clean
chemicals. You know,
there's there's a couple
tips you could do here.
If you're not comfortable
with sort of like a brush,
a towel and an air
compressor, you know, to
get the residue out.
What type of brush? Because
I think some people are like
brush. I can't put.
Yeah, I mean, you're talking
about, you know, something
you know, they used to sell
these leather brushes.
That's the one I kind of
remember. You know, the
wooden top to him. I don't
know what those were
called. That was more of
like an old style.
I think leather we thought
I used to sell those like
those like look like an
iron. They're kind of
yellowish. They had like
a felt on the end.
Yeah. Yeah. No, no, those
are different, but I know
what you're talking about
that the these would be an
actual brush.
People know what it's
called. I'm sure better
than me.
Factory anything?
Yeah, I mean, I mean, something
look, you could also use our
scrub monsters. Just it's
fine. You want something
with with some agitation
or if you're really
mention that, right?
Somebody's like revive and
scrub monster. Yeah, that
will be fine. Again, just
take a little air and get
the residue out of there.
Now, if you want to have
really no residue, you can
buy the like foamers
where you pour revive in
it and then it's got the
foaming tip, you know,
that'll basically foam revive
out for Alcantara.
I think those are like 50
cents on something like
Amazon or whatever.
Perfectly good use.
Alcantara is never really
I've worked on it for so
long. I think by the time
more and more people were
working on it, people were
making them scared.
Like this is a time where
APC hurts you.
We probably were scared.
Yeah, because the early
people just went off
and by the way, it'll be
it'll be crusty too.
And that's what happened.
What's that if you don't use
revive?
Well, it revives
cleanliness, meaning as a
formula versus something
APC is just a harsher
chemical, right?
That's the thing we keep
saying to everybody is
you're taking a risk every
time you use a harsher
chemical. That doesn't mean
there's not times to use
it, right?
But that's what people
understand is the cleanliness
of revive, not actually
leaving the cleanliness behind
but the cleanliness of the
formula.
Even if you don't get every
last bit out of that Alcantara,
it's not going to crust up
because it's not that harsh
of a chemical.
It's more about proper
cleaning power than it is
about a harsh chemical to get
cleaning power.
So I think one
from like just our
perspective, HQ's is a lot
of APCs have delimaling
or other solvents
that use solvents because
that's cheaper, right?
It's cheaper than using
surfactant.
Revive has zero solvents,
right? Zero.
And still the same cleaning
power, that's the important
part is nobody wants
you to take an extra three
hours on an interior.
There's a way to get cleaning
power that's not as dangerous,
sort of like we see with TRX,
right? There's a way to get
cleaning power of an old school
degreaser without the damage
that an old school degreaser
can have. There's a chemistry
reality there.
And by the way, that wasn't
really possible 15 years
ago, right?
So that's why it's a good
formula now.
You learn things, things
advance, chemical companies
develop things, they withdraw
material and then boom, you
got something great.
So again, and I will often
try to tell people
Revive is probably one of the
most copied things
that we've ever released
that a magically a lot of
people found a need
for cleaner formulas after we
launched Revive and I can tell
you the list of those people.
But that came out of working on
really expensive cars and
really expensive cars have
surfaces like
natural, uncoated leather.
You know, they have Alcantara.
Some of them have real suede,
right? You have all kinds of
different things because Alcantara
remember is a
synthetic product.
It's not real, but there are
expensive cars that have real
suede in them and real things
like that can cost you lots of
money if you mess it up.
But don't be scared of Alcantara
and that's certainly not
Dale. He was just asking advice,
but I know a lot of you are
nervous about it.
And the thing is, is don't
oversaturate it.
OK, take your time, especially
on things. We have a
special edition car that has
an Alcantara.
The two worst places to put
Alcantara, by the way, it's
really not all over the car.
Steering wheel, steering wheel,
number one, number two, the arm
rest. Oh, you're beeping to it.
Come on, dude, it was it's the
silliest thing.
But we've been able to keep
them looking perfect using
revive. We've used the field.
That's why they put it on there.
Oh, 100 percent on there for the
field. 100 percent.
So again, something
to agitate, you know, get the
dirt, lift it off, take your
towel, wipe off the dirt,
give a little light agitation.
Don't go crazy.
But this is Alcantara
is really the reason
if you really want to get down to
it of not
really having a PC at the front
of your mind.
Because if you roll into a nice
car, you're probably going to see
some Alcantara or some sensitive
parts.
A PC, can it work?
It can work, but you better get
it all out of there.
Because if not, they're going to
grab that steering wheel and go,
why is this thing crunchy?
And so if I'm if I'm
somebody that bought a vehicle
with Alcantara and I
own a car that has Alcantara
and I have somebody clean it,
and it comes back crunchy.
Yes. What do I do?
At that point in time, you're
looking at taking something like
revive an air
and using it
very wisely to start
getting to draw some of that
cleaner out of there.
The difference is if it's bad
enough and we have been in this
situation, I think we've shared it
on here before.
Some of these steering wheels
that people have improperly
cleaned, we had to sand
the Alcantara
to bring it back to life because
you can actually lightly sand
Alcantara.
OK.
This stuff is real.
People damage the hell
out of this stuff
not because they're not a
talented detailer or didn't
know what to do.
Literally, they made a chemical
misjudgment
like we see on door panels
and all kinds of Facebook groups.
That door panel being destroyed
doesn't mean you're a bad
detailer.
It means you don't understand the
chemicals you're using.
And so it's taking your skill
and it's reducing it down to
you just burnt the whole door.
We've seen entire interiors
burn. I don't know how you
didn't catch on to it when you
saw it turning white.
But we've watched.
I mean, I think there was an F
150 circling in one of these
groups where the whole thing was
burnt up.
And you can say, well, they
should know better.
I don't know, man. A lot of
people still use things like
APC unnecessarily.
Now, you're inside of a work
truck that hasn't been cleaned
in 10 years and you want to go
5050 with some APC because
what's the worst that can
happen?
I understand that mindset to
to admit, you know, look,
this is what we're working on.
Even then, though, you're
not going to get more cleaning
power than revive anyway.
You're just not.
I mean, we, you,
the people that use it all
the time in their business,
we still have yet to find an
interior that can't be cleaned
up with revive in a timely
manner.
Absolutely.
And your boy,
your boy last night.
Well, it was such a beautiful
weekend. He left the top off
of the Jeep.
So what do I get to do today?
Well, it rained.
Oh, there you go again on what
happened last night.
You know, those storms that
you guys had rolled over the
Rockies.
There you go. Initially made
it to us.
So I've got that
not so great smell because
about the middle of the night,
I went to go put the top on.
Yeah, already wet.
But once that's been sitting.
Oh, yeah, I remember those days.
Mm hmm. Right.
So let's be we're somebody.
We've got a musty vehicle.
Right.
We've opened up the car.
Maybe we've bought a car.
We've we've had a car out
at a recently.
We had our car at a body shop.
I'm not going to get into that,
but I'll send you pictures.
Yeah. A lot of trail marks.
We're not talking about the
outside, right?
We're talking about the inside.
Yeah.
You know, you get a car that's
musty.
I looked at it and I go, you
know, I could definitely use
revive.
This is a time that if
revive is what you have,
it's a pure cleaner.
OK, so you can spray it
into the carpet.
It's fine.
However,
if you really want to do some
real great job, I go
straight for enzyme.
Yes. Right. Because I'm just
thinking musty thinking, OK,
if I've got a smell, I mean,
something's been growing.
Yeah. An enzyme is
a is a bacteria
eating thing.
Right. I think that's a lot of
times we talk about the stain
removal part.
We don't talk about the part
of, you know,
it eats away
at bacteria.
I mean, that's what it that's
what an enzyme does.
Right. Or that specific enzyme
does.
And so.
But then I would just follow
back with, you know, again,
if you have a steamer, nice
use right there.
Yeah, back Friday, man.
Yeah, nice. You have a steamer
next week.
Your boy needs a steamer.
Yeah.
So it's one of these things
like.
The way to make yourself look
better as a detailer sometimes
is to understand how things
work.
Right. I mean, that's kind of
the problem with like one step
corrections being so.
I don't know, mislabeled
at times.
It's like you really can
accomplish a lot.
But you also can't use one
that's filled with wax and
fillers. That's not the same
thing. That's more
like, you know, an all in one
quick buzz around the car.
A one step correction, I can
get a lot out of it.
Right. It's the mislabeling
of it.
And so what happens is people
make choices.
Somebody washes their car
after a couple washes.
The paint looks like crap again.
Well, you you told yourself you
were doing a one step correction,
but you didn't understand it.
That doesn't mean you didn't have
the skill to do a one step
correction. You just chose the
improper thing to use.
Right. And you and I see that
kind of stuff all the time.
So like what you said, I
see all of these things like,
you know, the chlorine bombs
that people use and
put this under your seat and do
this and spray that stuff can
work.
But if you didn't get the thing
that it was masking,
then it's just going to come
back in an often
what I've always experienced is
it smells chemically
and then the bad.
So you go, oh, now I just have
chemical and funk.
That doesn't really help me,
which would happen in your Jeep.
I've owned enough Jeeps.
When you have the musty smell
and you did it, if you did a
chlorine tab for anybody that's
not used it, it would smell
like chlorine.
And then when that started to
wear away, you go, wow, now
the smells like mold and
chlorine.
Sort of like the musty basement
smell.
For any of you that have a
basement that has like a swimming
pool downstairs.
There you go. Yeah, yeah.
Like an indoor hotel swimming
pool.
It's just a little too potent
and funky.
You know, yeah, I mean, a lot
of this stuff, guys, and I
think probably people get tired
of us harping on it.
Chemical choice can
make you look like a hero.
And chemical choice can be
something that creates nothing
but headache.
So I think I'd just rather
be the hero because I chose a
good product.
I mean, it sounds silly, but
in a lot of cases, like
we are talking to somebody
who's looking to become somebody
a part of the hyper clean runs
a massive shop.
The first product that
they noticed was revived.
They go, yeah, our interiors
that went out of our shop never
smelled like this.
Yeah, what does it smell like?
Smells like car,
like a clean car.
Exactly.
What you guys have been using
because they were an APC facility,
a very popular APC, by the way,
from a big brand, not something
cheap always left
that chemical
cleanliness.
That is not clean.
That's chemical smell.
Right. It's like people that
still like do everything in
their house with bleach.
It's like, yeah, it smells
like bleach.
Yeah, Pinesaw.
Pinesaw, you go, oh,
yeah.
And you and I have talked about it.
I mean, there's there's a lot of
things that
when you don't know till you
know.
And once you start cleaning up
enough cars with something like
revive and you start using
things like enzyme, which one of
the best parts about enzyme,
which I had to use when I first
got my LX.
One of the best parts about enzyme
is it doesn't leave that
that like chemical smell behind.
There's nothing. There's nothing.
Right. And so then if you go
back and you clean the rest of the
interior with revive, you're
just left with that clean smell.
That is something A in your own
cars, you'll notice immediately.
But I promise you all your
customers will if you're doing it
professionally.
It's like people try and like
have that scent of fresh
and then there's real fresh.
Yes. That's a very good way of
saying. And I guess that was when
we developed it.
That's what I kind of told Marty.
Our customers
were very sensitive to smells
almost across the board.
I don't even know how that happened
to be honest with you. Just kind
of lucky thing in my business.
The minute I my guys use
revive, we got comment
after comment after comment
after comment.
And since then, almost
across the board, if somebody says
something about our business,
they'll say how shiny my car
is, right?
That'll be number one.
And number two, usually
the people that are driving the
most, the kids to practice,
the kids to daycare, very
busy part of the family, they'll
be like, our cars are just
always super clean.
They don't actually know what
they're experiencing except for
they've never experienced that
level of cleanliness.
And what they mean is they're
not wafting in chemical
smell.
They don't know what to say.
Right. Yeah.
And I would even tell you, I
find it hard to tell people
except for its true
cleanliness.
Right. You will notice a
difference of using something
that's just the right cleaner,
not a ton of scent.
The scent basically that we have
in it is just to make it a
little bit more pleasant to
use.
Right. So you guys go, oh,
this is pleasant to use that
scent doesn't stick around on
purpose.
We don't want any of that.
We just want people to
experience clean.
So I think it's one of those
products. People, if you if
you haven't tried it Black
Friday is a good time to try
it.
Great.
Love that. Nice plug.
There you go. I mean, I'm a
pro.
Two little posts and then
we'll get out of here because
we were talking about inters
and I saw these and I go,
listen, we got to at least
bring them up because these
are these are the times of
detailing that, you know,
you just got to have a good
time with them.
But they're true.
Very real.
What do y'all think about a
detailer who uses spray paint
on interior
upholstery?
Ooh.
Now, upholstery is what threw
me off.
Yeah, you and I come from a
world a spray on
carpet.
It's all day long.
Oh, yeah. Spray on carpet
dye was a heavy part
of what 20 years ago.
Yep. Now the joke and then
I'll always tell the joke
because it's hilarious
is I literally would go
deliver. I tried to
when I got into carbodyne, I
didn't get into it till I got
to the car wash.
And when because we all know
there's some stains, you can't
get out.
You just can't.
And one of the detailers there,
he goes, hey, you know, at the
dealership, we always would buy
this spray paint from a guy and
come around. Yeah.
What was that brand called?
Man, I forget that.
Well, we were using right then
we were an auto magic support.
Like they were our distributor.
So they were tied into
a lot of inside the paint.
So it was I don't even I don't
know.
They were used SEM.
Yeah, something like that.
Yeah. Yeah. It was a hey,
everybody that was around back
then, that's what you used.
And remember that they could
sell you entire boards of
it. Oh, yeah.
Or you could just have a set
up like in
it was sort of like the touch
up paint back then.
Yeah. The people that would
come out would
sell you a scale.
These little plastic
containers and then you'd have
this binder of
paint codes and you'd put
a certain amount of each color
in. That was the touch up paint
that I remember he had those
ball bearings or the BBs in the
bottom. You'd have to shake it.
But I mean, carpet dye was
just canisters and canisters
and canisters.
And they did have like 10 or
12 different of the same like
tan. Yeah, it'd be why.
Desert desert.
I'm like, I don't know.
And this was really when I
like really when it became
a problem for me and my color
blindness. And you know, when
people used to do, especially
if they had 10 on 10, I
would bring it.
So when it was a time for
me to go like, Hey, we need
your help. I would go to the
place where we we always do
them in the equipment room,
right? Like because that was
a place we could spray it
didn't matter.
Well, I would bring them
back. And after the second
one, they go, why did you
play spray this brown black,
bingo. They go, Hey, man,
that's not the color.
Yeah, no, it's that that
looks like the color to me.
Yeah. Like, I can't do
this anymore, guys.
Yeah, you gotta call on me to
help you out. Yeah, we had to
tell the cut where's one
customer we told him, well, we
did it as a two tone color
because it looked great on your
carpets. I swear, we really
said that to you. And they
bought it and they went cool.
We're good because they didn't
seem to stay. Yeah, don't do
this at home. Yeah, the thing
that I got in heavily on
carpet dye, there's a little
secret of trying to win like
prestigious car shows where
guys would just like if you
had a black carpet, they
just go fresh black
everywhere. Like, oh, yeah,
nobody's ever ridden in this.
It's like, let's got 42,000
miles on it. I think
somebody wrote in it. But I
mean, it would just be
heavy. Like, and they would
trick judges that way. I mean,
what, you know, I was I was
a part of it. I mean,
they would just trick
because I want something
I was like, okay, it's what
we're going to do. This is
what we'll do. I mean, it was
a real big part of it,
especially before hypercliff.
Hey, he's talking about.
Hey, this was Nick.
This was Nick pre 2010.
Like that people did a lot of
and so when you see a post
like this, you know, to get
back to it, you're right,
upholstery. I don't
know. I mean, I've seen
so many horror stories.
I think you have to one of
the most embarrassing things
in the horror story.
No, no.
I was going to talk about
leather die.
Like, do you remember how many
horror stories you saw with
leather die where people
would get in, they'd be
wearing jeans or dress pants
or whatever.
Somebody would told them that
they had their seat repaired
technically, that's air quotes.
They'd get in the car.
They'd drive to their office
or to home.
And then you wouldn't really
get a text until
either somebody saw their pants
or their shirt, or they took
it off at night and go,
oh, what's all over this?
Right. And then you would get
phone calls back to
whoever did that work and they
be like, well, what'd they
expect? It's like, I don't know
for not to come off on their
clothes. I mean, I don't think
that's a very high bar, but
all that stuff.
There are professionals that are
great at it and that do it
the right way.
Have I found many detailers
that do that level of work?
I'd say probably stay away from
from the spray paint on the
upholstery.
Yes, yes.
All right.
Got this one. This is this
looks.
Wow.
Anyone have advice for a can of
spray paint exploding
in a car interior?
Yeah, I think an insurance claim.
That what else could you do?
Right. But what if the person
didn't have insurance?
Yeah, then you're going to have
a very well.
You're going to have a one of one
interior. It sounds like you go
back to the spray dye.
I mean,
I I've seen some wild
things. So of you.
So many of you listening to this
maybe even had some of it happen
to you. Unfortunately,
there's some of this stuff that I
see questions about that a is
not fixable.
I always and then I bet I
haven't seen that post, but I
bet it has 100 comments with a
bunch of ideas.
I've I've had the experience.
I think many of you probably feel
the same way, which is, you know,
when stuff gets on headliner,
you're getting in real tricky
territory.
Oh, yeah, you're getting in real
tricky territory because the
amount of headliners in my
career and your career that have
been ruined by somebody touching
the headliner has got to be in
the thousands.
Right. And nobody knows until
they go. Yeah, they go, they go.
Why is this coming down?
They don't realize that three
years ago, such and such
dealership, such and such
detail or such and such whatever
clean the headliner, sprayed
stuff on the headliner. It started
to deteriorate and now they're on
the hook.
I would tell almost anybody.
I don't know what it would take
for somebody.
Somebody would have to pay me to
deep clean headliners at this
point.
But I think the cost of getting
them relined
is probably at a cost.
Now I would go.
Is this really worth it?
Because I just talked to somebody
that does headliners.
Well, if it was hitting you in
the face as you're driving down
the road, you might.
Yeah, you know, you go.
You can do a lot of headliners
for a lot cheaper than you
think, and you're going to have
a detailer out there for four,
five, six hours messing with the
headliner.
You might just want to get it
replaced.
Because I think the cost is going
to be pretty comparable if
somebody's trying to do a good
job.
Yeah, I think I'm going to have
to venture into that here.
If I ever do get to take
ownership of that three 28 I
because he already warned me.
He already warned me.
And so that headliner
is falling because
somebody did something.
It's very rare.
You have certain cars, certain
histories, certain
manufacturing defects
amongst cars that always had
that happen.
There was a Volvo once upon a
time that had an issue from
manufacturing that I remember
that I had to deal with.
That that three 28 I
I got news for you that that's
going to be very easy
to get redone.
Just go have it redone.
Yeah, that's what I was saying.
I have to have it redone.
Yeah, it's especially
in black, you
know, very affordable,
you know, high end
even, you know, wrap
it's going to be fine.
It's you going out
there with pushpins and trying
to spray glue.
Well, that's what it is now.
You can see the pins.
Yes. Yes, I've been there.
I've been there.
It's cool to see cooking with
Nick stop by Dustin's
shop.
Yeah, I saw he got a new
daily ship.
Was that a seven 28?
Yeah. No, I don't think it's
it looked like a five series.
I didn't say five series.
Yeah, it looked good.
Yeah, good.
It was cool.
They stopped by and saw each
other.
So what we love about community,
right?
Yeah, it's great to see those.
And we'll see everybody at
hyper clean store this
weekend.
Fifteen percent off.
Fifteen percent off everything.
Everything.
Yeah, including the new hoodie.
Yeah, including the new hoodie,
the new abrasives.
And there are a few of these
cups still left there.
If anybody still wants a
hyper clean cup, yeah,
that's the way to do it.
All right, everybody have a great
Thanksgiving.
Enjoy your turkeys.
Are you doing turkey?
What are you doing?
Ham.
Ham turkey guy.
Yeah, I haven't been either.
I randomly bought some the other
day just I saw some legs at a
grocery store.
I go, let's do it as
well. We can't we can't
screw up three legs.
Can we?
No, it's the dark meat, dude.
Yeah, it should be good.
Yeah, I hear you.
I'll get to have a little
turkey mom requested fried
okra.
Yeah, we're having fried okra
and turkey.
Hey, hillbilly season over
there in Tulsa.
All right, everybody enjoy.
See y'all next week.
See you.
