legit podcast now kind of I mean until we came on it started out as it sounds legit at first
face to show up but then shout out shout out to our guy PJ North for hooking it up. Yeah PJ
always coming in clutch with the with the voiceovers and especially his music traded him a
couple retro hats for that bad boy. Hopefully he reps him well and hopefully we rep his
voiceover well for him. Oh yeah man and no that was good he kept that West Coast bounce too so
you know I appreciate that. And you heard it from from his mouth we are the most handsome

Batson what's up big dog? We're glad to be back we had a week off again not much going on on the
West Coast this time of year but glad to be back. We got Sonoma coming up this week it's the
divisional midweek right before the national kind of like they do down in Dallas you know for the
stampede of speed so I think racing starts on Wednesday it'll be interesting to see and watch
on NHRA TV if you're not there. Hope everybody's there. Unfortunately or fortunately however you
want to look at it I'm looking at it as fortunately my wife is like 30 months pregnant at this point
she's as pregnant as you can get so we're going to be watching this one from NHRA TV and hopefully
hopefully I'll have a baby boy in my arm as we're we're sharing on some of the family members that
are heading out there. Brother I was just thinking if I had kept my helmet on for four days straight
and never took it off I probably could have entered for you but if I just with the shield down
kept the helmet on for four days straight I you know I probably could have got you 30 points
at least 30 I guarantee you 30 points unless they kicked us out disqualified us and they
gave us zero and that's my claim. Well yeah I don't know we got big data on here he talked about
I'd have done you know they I'll bring the wreck and go to the NHRA stage buddy whatever it takes to win.
Well I I'd be down if my car was there but it's home Troy. That's easy for you to say
when we can't do it right but I should have planned this longer ago. We should have we
we've only known that your wife's been pregnant for nine months.
Well I'm super jacked that that intro got me jacked but we got big jet on tonight.
Big jet we got a big fish. It can't get much bigger than that. When your name has big in it like
you know your your big dog. You know. Should we bring him in. Yeah well let's not beat around the
bush. I mean we don't have much to talk about out here so let's just get to it. There he is.

All good bro. I need to get used to no sleep. I was backstage obviously while you guys were
doing the intro and Parker talked about his wife being 30 months pregnant. Well I just turned 55
a couple of days ago and my wife is four months pregnant. She's not 55 just so you know but
um now I don't know if y'all heard that but no are you are you breaking news on the show. I didn't
know I didn't know you guys were expecting. We are expecting in December and um you know I'll
have a 21 year old a 12 year old and a newborn so. Hey I love got a 14 and
nine and a five. I didn't spread them out quite quite as far but uh but I know how that how that
life goes. Well congratulations man. I did not know that so I appreciate it. I hope it goes smooth
and yeah it's awesome. Are we gonna like Christmas babe? We like December 1st or we like December
21st? What are we looking at? It's the 28th but she's 42 and they've told her she won't go full term
so it'll be somewhere in the middle to early December and love it. It's a baby boy uh that's
pretty cool and um oh yeah we're we're thinking names like Parker or Troy you know trying to
decide between the two. Can't go wrong buddy. We'll have some good names for you later in the
show if uh you guys want to stick around. Oh yeah we do have some names for you later in the show.
I can't wait to pick them. Um that's that's the tease for later you're
gonna want to stick around for this. I texted my partner and I told him what we're doing.
Nice I love it. Well you're fresh off the mountain um how you feeling? You recuperated or
what? I know that's a big slog for you and the team but uh you all you all rested up and good to go?
Yeah it's a lot of work but um we are rested up recovered uh and ready for the next one coming
up Labor Day so yeah um you know we're we're pretty excited about how the WFC turned out and
you'll hopefully carry some of that momentum into Labor Day. I'll tell you when I saw the
flyer come out last year for the 20th um that's not a race. I don't footbreak um and certainly
don't travel across the country to race ever but when I saw the flyer come out last year me and a
buddy of mine were like we gotta go we're gonna rent something a Toyota Camry
we're gonna go out there and put her in deep. I ended up getting a gig with the TB crew and once
that happened I realized that the weekend was off the table but um it was the one time I had
I had the intentions to hop on a plane and fly out to some far-flung track and race but uh
followed on a little bit saw that you guys had an incredible incredible turnout um I don't know how
you managed 590 entries or whatever it was but um you look like you guys had a good time and got
it done and and just was really cool to see everybody come out in force to support you guys
so congratulations on 20 years of the WSC man well thank you Troy you know it's it's incredible to
think the event has lasted that long and uh it you know somehow it appears to be gaining momentum
in its 20th year and we had 577 just to put an exact number to it and that's a challenge it's a
blessing but it's uh it's a challenge it brings it share challenges you can't have any interruptions
or things you know can really get sideways for you but I had a couple of pretty massive
oil downs that really caught us um in a bad spot and fortunately didn't really get the kind of
weather you'd think you'll get in Bristol over five days the poor junior dragster kids are getting
it right now and you know bless their heart but uh we were very fortunate to dodge some major
bullets and and get it all wrapped up that's awesome man and I want to get parking here but
you set up a segue real quick that gets into one of the questions that's on our list and
I've been promoting a little double 10 grander out here for a couple years and and even as excited
as I am about it every year it already starts to have that feeling sometimes of like of an obligation
because you know the people want it so bad and still no matter if I'm into it that year I'm
feeling it or not it's like I gotta do it um and then it ends up being great like I love doing it
but but I already start to feel feel that a little bit after 20 years are you still able to get up
and get pumped for this thing do you feel like it's just something you owe to the folks and you
just you gotta do it because you gotta there's gotta be a wfc or how you know how do you how do
you do that how do you get pumped for this thing still after all these years um and not feel like
it's a job well great question the answer to to all of those questions is yes um you know it
it it is uh pressure because so many people talk about it you see them on facebook online
talking about their expectations and it's going to be their first one and all they've heard is
wonderful things so that that keeps you motivated to to try to improve the event each year you know
would try to find ways to make it just a little bit better each year and the expectations that
people have does create a little pressure Troy but uh pressure's a privilege you know if you if you
don't feel pressure are you relevant you know you should feel the pressure to perform if you're
driving for someone or if you're putting on a race or even if you're announcing you know there's
pressure on you to to be your best and and give people what they're paying for and you know that
I think keeps us driven man I pressure is a privilege I'm stealing that one for a long time
and and that it's true man if you don't have any pressure on you then are you even doing anything
so um that's a I love that perspective man I thought uh I thought Jed was quoting like Ben
Franklin right there that's some wise words of wisdom right there they went to high school together
so pretty close you ain't even that much older than me man I'm just kidding
um WFC is the the pinnacle of footbreak racing um we did talk about how you have the pressure
to um make the event better and bigger and and all sorts of stuff year after year is there
something that you have in mind for the 21st year that came upon you this last year or or is it kind
of a rinse and repeat race at this point I know that you can only price it so high for for a lot
of the racers and I don't know just just touch on that yeah well again multiple questions there
Parker and the answer to all of those are both of those is yes um you know it is race rinse repeat
um we're we had the five day for our 20 year anniversary uh five days was grueling it was uh
it was a challenge you know people tore equipment up you know a lot of broken cars we we ran people
pretty hard so uh that was just a one-off thing for us for our 20th year it was footbreak history
which we you know we did we not hopefully don't go to the emergency room patting
ourselves on the back hurting our arm or shoulder but uh it was footbreak history so it was cool to
be a part of but we'll go back to our four day format in uh in the 21st year next year
and but we're we're thinking of a little twist to that we've always ran Thursday to Sunday
we are considering Wednesday to Saturday with Sunday as a makeup day a lot like the the good
top bulb events are doing these days um you know we we are just footbreak racing and you know that
that people have their opinion about that it's it's grassroots type stuff but we're trying to
create the vibe and atmosphere that the big money top bulb races have and we're trying to get on
that same stage and so we're we're doing things that is pretty standard in that part of the market
hopefully breaking a little ground in the footbreak world well so you bring such humility
with it now right and Parker said the pinnacle of footbreak racing man it might be the pinnacle
of bracket racing right we have multiple million dollar potential purse races we got a million
50s we got some hundred granders there is only one race like the wfc and it's and that's it um
it's incredible and and you know i talk about when i first kind of got into announcing it was
from finding races like the wfc on youtube i remember in 2020 i'm sitting there during the pandemic
that's how i found motor mania i didn't know there was live drag racing on youtube every
weekend until 2020 and and i remember the first time i watched the wfc on the live stream like
it's the it's one of the coolest things i've ever seen and there's nothing like the photo album you
guys share at the top end because we all love door cars right and when you got 600 of them
turning off down there and getting their picture taken and they are beautiful um the the the feel
i mean i've never been to it i can imagine though because watching it on tv it feels
every bit as big as when you're watching the og or the spring fling million and i know the
people that go to it think of it like that right um because for them it is that big if you're just
a footbreaker only like that's the granddaddy of them all by a long way so um you you you keep
that humility and that's cool and all but um you've built something pretty big pretty special
pretty amazing well much appreciated for you to say that and for parker to title it the you
know the pinnacle of footbreak racing um you know we we know we have a premiere event
and it's a great event but i tell a lot of people in the winter circle or in the lanes
when they talk about how great the race is you can't have a great race without great racers
there's never been a you know a parking lot full of duds that somebody said man what a great race
they say it's a great race because it's got great people in it and the racers have really been you
know we might we might lay down the lumber but the racers have been the ones that nailed it all
together they they go home they talk about it they talk friends into coming i mean heck parker's even
come out and race with us just because of you know what he's heard and what he's seen online so
you know people come from all over the country we had them there from arizona and colorado and
places all over this year and we get that every year so the racers are really responsible for it
not not trying to just serve everybody a bunch of humble pie but you know we're not naive enough
to think that it's just us it's bristles facility it's incredible it's the racers speaking great about
the event and us doing our part and giving them what we promise we'll give them when they get there
and it's just a it's a great combination really it just works out very very well well and you
really hit on it and it's one of the things that that keeps me you know but the day before my race
goes off i'm like this is the last year i'm ever doing it not doing it again and then on saturday night
and sunday night after the finals are over and you're getting hugs and high fives and handshakes
and the thank yous and that like that's what you're like and you're and i'm ready to run it back i'm
like let's go we're planning for the next year and and people say thanks and all
the time and i'm like guys i can make all the flyers in the world i want and i can get sponsors
and i can do all this but it's you guys right you guys that show up here that that put packet
in the pits that put on a show on the track um you know you hit it right on the head man it's
you can you can set the stage but somebody got a dance on it and uh so credit to all the racers
for sure if we just posted the flyer on motormania for 14 hours a day uh wouldn't get very many views
so it's the racers that make it happen they they are the show yep 100 we've talked about
what what's a great race and great race is happening but what are what is a successful
event look like in your eyes jed and mine has a successful event parker is getting everything
done that you put on that flyer pay in every penny of it and making sure that you know they get
your best effort um you know no shortcuts no uh trying to bail out on anything that you said you
would do and you know i don't know any promoters that are doing that that's doing that so i'm not
you know picking at any one specifically just you know for footbreak racers sometimes they get
slighted i mean that's what that's what got this event started um you know the story of steve and i
sitting at the applebee's in meridian mississippi and and us fussing about how footbreakers get
treated and then he scratched out a race on a napkin while we were both eating about two of
each of the appetizers before our meal came and we were stuffing our face and you know we we just
talked about how footbreakers get treated and when he laid that race out he said what do you think
about this man that's freaking awesome that's the best footbreak race i've ever seen let me know
when somebody has it and then i'm in and and he said well i know who can do it you know it's us
and i was like off your mind we're two country bumpkin footbreak racers and he said i really think
we can do it and before you know it we had a flyer together and we had contacted bristol and
they had a brand new manager and he had come from the baseball world his name's brandon cross
he's still there and brandon you know didn't know nothing about nothing and i talked to him about
this crazy good footbreak race we wanted to have and he was excited ready to bring an event to the
table that had never been the bristol so he said yes and we said yes next thing you know we're
we're at year 20 celebrating so that's amazing these racers deserve a stage like this and and
we're just blessed to get to help provide it and so was that your first race is that the origin
story of colbert promotions is that a greasy spoon in meridian mississippi on a napkin it is
it is that's exactly how it came to life and um you know we i had i had colbert racing that's where
i live colberg alabama and i had colbert racing and it was just a little funny thing that i did
just told people i'm colbert racing but it was just a joke and when we started talking about
names for our promotion company steve said we need to be colbert racing promotions because
that's what people know they know colbert racing i was like no that ain't gonna work either and
everything i told him wouldn't work he said would work and he was right and i was wrong and
you know here we are that's awesome man well yeah i mean the race is so good i get to be on
podcasts with you guys so yeah buddy that's you know you make somebody feel special here
well the people been wanting you on a podcast for quite a few years now we we all been missing you
so just uh just super stoked that you made some time for us tonight oh yeah no no problem at all
you uh you've been around for 20 years in the promoting industry and obviously it's because
you put on great events you and steve you made it through a recession in 2008 what has been
the biggest challenges you've faced over the last 20 years that seemed like a steep hill to climb but
you climbed it nonetheless oh man what a great question easily our biggest challenge over the
years is um we're we we serve grassroots we serve guys that lay under the car or dig the ditch for
the business owner so our most challenging thing we've dealt with over the years parker is getting
our event to fit our target customer it's not just a cookie cutter thing where you can just put a
flyer out we had 50 granders our first two years okay well the second year was like you said the
recession 2008 when we left there somehow we didn't lose our our homes and i was devastated
because we just we got lucky but it was it was a lot of work for no reward i thought we were done
in year two steve said no no let's let's take this thing and look at it and and try to adjust it to
where it fits the people that we're want we want to show up in race and that's been the mission
each year uh you know we've got people like um glinda cochran that brings her half street half
race gto there and you know it goes eight fifties and we've got people that drive their andrew
adkins drives his 770 dodge duster from ohio to the race with his mini bike where the back seat
used to be he drives it all the way there those customers are just so special and unique to big
money bracket racing and you don't have to pay 50 000 or 100 000 you just need to pay them something
that's special and create an atmosphere that's special and they want to be a part of it so
our biggest challenge has always been trying to have a big money vibe and feel that fits
grassroots just down to earth racers and it's a it's it's not as easy as some people have
made it look over the years it's a challenge but it's one that we understand and i think we adjust
too pretty well i think uh you hit the nail on the head with the the atmosphere because
there's people out there who dream of winning the million and there's people out there who dream
that's all right and uh that's all right but the the wfc may not pay what the million does but
it's it's equal in in the prestige so uh i just i just love that i got to get to some more wfc some
more labor day races just i because i want the prestige well you got to go 71 rounds to win the
thing well labor day is a lot easier labor day is going to be a 300 ish crowd and you know the wfc
is about twice that so labor day is more of a racer's race it's a it's a fun deal and that's the one
you came to yeah parker so well you know the vibe there's a little different but it's
still really good you've exported this format a little bit right you've done i believe you've
done some thanksgiving races here and there right um just in our first one last year yeah and then
the the southern footbreak challenge um you branched out and did that is that that's not
still happening right or is it that's not a thing any longer no it was at holly springs
mississippi and uh that one you know just struggled to to make it work you know that's
another thing that's told us how important bristol is to our business model you know we
we couldn't sit and take credit because we tried it in other places where we were not successful
so bristol is always successful so that that track lures people to it as well as the event
yeah yeah we uh talked about going 71 rounds to win a race gauge birch this year made it look
easy and he may be on this list but if you had a wfc goat who do you think would be
on the on the top of the list for the wfc goat well we we keep track of final round appearances
and those types of things um so lucas walker is he has the most final rounds for colbert
racing promotions maybe not the wfc itself but for our events lucas walker but you know it'd be a
guy like him it'd be a guy like chris plot uh chris won a ton of course scottie scottie raced the
event twice both was 50 granders first two years and he won both of them so it would be hard to
argue against scottie's success rate at the events only two times he ever raced it and and he won
both of them and we uh i told him he was going to run our customers off so we had to change it to
10 grand or something he didn't care about he could have done 30 or not somewhere so at the time we
changed it to 10 granders and you know he wasn't interested anymore but um we we've been very fortunate
to have some of the greatest ever do it and but as far as a wfc goat that would be lucas walker chris
plot that kind of uh leads me into my next question um while i was watching the wfc on on
motormania tv uh it came to my mind that footbreak racing in my opinion is one of the most difficult
um classes of racing um in your in your word why is footbreaking the most difficult
or do you agree with me that it is the most difficult it's 100 the most difficult um you
know i i hear and see the debate about no box racing and how they're really the same no they're
not the same when you've got one foot on the floor and you've got one in the the massage tank
because you don't have to hold the brake and you let go of a button that is that's different
and it does lower the the the rate of difficulty there so um the you know much like the stalker
guys i've had some stalker guys challenge me over the years that they should have you know what
why we're foot breaking why don't you let us put our button on the pedal and use that well
that's a starting line aid it allows you to have one foot on the floor before you let go
of the foot and that's that lowers the the difficulty so foot breaking is so challenging
because it's a game of thousands as both of you know very very well and when you're dealing with
thousands of a second trying to stage a car perfectly by coming up on the converter and
bumping the brake in to where you just you get it in there just right and hold those rpm steady
if you stage first it could be six or eight seconds before you take off if you stage last
you know it's still going to be three to four watch your what's your data recorder and and
look at that rpm it is extremely difficult to hold those rpm steady and have that brake pressure
with that left foot where you create tension in your body and and you try to focus on the tree
coming down and hit it perfectly so many moving parts and foot break and it makes it easily the
most difficult form of bracket racing yeah and not to mention some people are going deep some
are going shallow you might both go deep that's just a bajillion and one thing's going on at one
time so i agree with you jed on that one when i was watching a few rounds too and
and you know i i'm a bottom bulber but i got a button in my car right and so i can stage i
hit the button and i can deck it whenever i want to whenever i'm ready right and and i was watching
a couple rounds and you see and we're always worried about you know everything consistency
where starting line enhancers came from right i want to be on the converter for the same amount
of time every time uh and and and bottom bulb with the button i can deck it whenever i'm ready
and be pretty close the same amount of time i'm watching some of those footbreak guys and and
they get in first and the other guy took a little bit longer than maybe they normally would have took
and you're just sitting there building heat and and you're
and you're and it's messing up the timing and your nerves are getting crazier and they still
go down and lay down a lap you know and they do it round after and and you talked
a little bit about about the leaderboard it always seems like a win just because it's so big but
there's always big stories at the wfc for for everybody and everybody's always worked so hard
and i remember uh watching dav harvey park it a couple times you i think that guy's still he's
undefeated in final rounds right amazing yes day's one of the best to ever do it what a monster
and like so you talk about how hard it is and and and yet there's guys out there who consistently
can find their way to the final round and guys like dav harvey who not only finds his way to
find around never lose it's crazy yeah dav you know he's uh he's obviously a legend in the sport
and uh he's he's won about everything we've done every type of race we've done on the mountain
and uh he went deep this year and uh i think it was one of the it was a 40 grander i think
on a saturday sunday wrap up so um consistent winner he he definitely would be in the conversation
of goat for for our events what's your favorite wfc or or labor day what's your favorite colberg
moment or story well now this is one of them right you probably got a million of them but
this is gonna sound terrible uh and it's well anybody that doesn't know me he's gonna question
integrity here but that was easy that was the last win light i saw at bristol yeah which was
jj's first win in a 4000 dollar to win gamblers race and he got that to wrap up our 20th
year celebration first win ever um you know obviously in a place he's dreamed of winning
in a place we've simulated right here in the living room floor um you know him him going to a final
round and winning so that was easily my favorite moment ever in wfc history but if it's uh you
know if it's a non-family member well let's let's stay there for a second let's stay there for
seconds yet you guys have rehearsed that you've went through what it was going to be like what
you're going to say what it's going to feel like how close was it to to the way you rehearsed
uh not anywhere nearly as close totally different it was a 180 um you know it was obviously him
what we rehearsed was him winning a main event race you know one uh yeah there's a picture that was uh
so so just a little backstory to that uh he he lost third round of the 40 grander sunday morning
and he came in the tower like he always does mattered and he could possibly be because he
he let himself down and he said you know i'm not going to race the gamblers race we still had a
gamblers race to go to wrap us up and he said i'm not going to run the gamblers race just just mad
i'm ready to put it up and go home i said okay well look it that's your choice but if you put it up
and don't run the gamblers race just when we get home plan on not seeing it for a while um you know
if you don't want to race in this setting in this race then your heart ain't in it and we'll just put
it up when we get home and you might can race it in a you know a month or so so obviously he he made
a good decision and decided to race then we're running two races together you know we're running
the main event and that gamblers race so i can't keep up with what he's doing i don't know what kind
of runs he's making i keep seeing him come back the next round so i know you know must be doing
pretty good and then you know the really the one race i got to watch him run was the final
and he got the win and yeah it was nothing like we had rehearsed but probably even better when you
think of the you know the whole story yeah is it uh is it hard to balance dad versus promoter in that
circumstance you know no you you'll you'll see you know you're about to have another beautiful
theobald baby boy so you know there's another in the whole line of beautiful theobalds there's
something in the water down there you tell me you uh well my good looking wife you never you never
dad always prevails you know it's not there's not a choice you you're never anything but dad
when you're when your child's out there doing it i love that oh so now now you can go to a
non what's your what's your favorite non-family moment we i led you right into that i knew where
you were going to go but it was on our question list so we just we just led you right to the
water on that first one i would say there's a couple of them um michael beard was winner and
runner up in year maybe three maybe year year three or four he won and runner up which i didn't
think was possible uh in in that environment um it was it was one of the most incredible moments
i've ever watched and year two scottie richardson won his back to back 50 won the second 50 that we
did and when scottie got out of the the truck in the winter circle he he cried and it wasn't teary
eyed it was tears rolling down his face uh so you know that immediately told me this is special
you know if scottie richardson the the goat of any race and cried this is something special man
this was a this is a cool event and um that was that was extra special for me for sure
it's interesting you bring up scottie that's a guy who who could have easily let his ego um
lead the way and and no matter how many times he won for how many decades uh i always appreciated
the way that he appreciated putting that thing in the winter circle whether it was at the all star
race or a big 50 grand or 100 grand or um the second wfc um miss that miss that from him man
because it didn't matter how long you've been doing it he appreciated everyone like it was the first
one yeah i think his appreciation for him grew uh stronger as you know he started having more
birthdays uh i remember him winning the the 100 grand shootout that peter did and uh you know what
the emotion he showed when when he won that race because he he knows they're they're getting few
and far between even if you're the greatest ever do it um so watching him over a 20 uh probably
2022 year stretch where i started racing with him versus uh slightly before he passed uh he was a
different kind of guy for sure yeah for sure he understood he understood what was you know what
he was accomplishing and how special it was yeah and i mean like such a high clip early in his
career i'm not sure he got to enjoy him like he did when he got older well and that's cool because
i think a lot of folks probably that when you're racing at that level you're having that kind of
success probably don't you're just so laser focused you're so you're blocking everything out you don't
even give yourself the space i think to relish in it and to do it and somehow you know later on he
found the space to to do that and um just pretty neat man um pretty neat dude so i'm gonna kind of
change the the direction of the show here i got one um question that i've really wanted to hit on
and i want to catch it before we we move on um shoot where is it oh so a lot of racers i'm gonna use
some foul language bitch and moan about how the promoter puts on a race or how the nha puts on a
race or what this or that or the tracks this or tracks that but what as racers can we do better
to help an event run smooth or smoother well that's a wonderful question and one i i've never tried
to put any more responsibility on the racers because of the the financial and um physical
investment that they have in just getting there and racing um you know try to try to appreciate
them for that but uh racers um they get very comfortable working through text or through messenger
and i get those you think you got 577 entries now that's entries understand a lot of people
doubled so i think we had 360 cars on the grounds um and i would say a good 50 of those maybe 70 of
those people constant texting messaging and i manage our facebook page i manage our messenger
and my number is the primary number on the flyer so you know they when they feel like when they
realize hey this is i got the right person you know they'll they text you what hey what color are we
running um i got a whiteboard in the back of the lanes i'm writing down what round it is what color
we called i go out and do that mostly i mean i'm trying everything i can to keep the communication
up but they're very comfortable with uh with the the immediate gratification of getting the message
to you and um it's it's that pressure we talked about early in this conversation i feel the pressure
to respond i try to stay on top of those things and answer them quickly but golly it is so difficult
to keep up with their questions and needs so hard so hard i i i have with 120 entries i'm
like i'm having to make announcements okay do not text me do not call me do you come to the tower
you need something you you come to the tower um you know parker i know one thing they do they come
to the lanes when it's time for time runs that's one thing you one other thing i wish racers would do
we spend a lot of time energy and money putting the flyer together i wish they would read it
well they read the people ask me questions all the time that are
answered on the flyer just i had the part that said 20 grand to win these didn't oh that's all
they cared about your way jen i would i would probably read the flyer if i knew how to read okay
well that's challenge i'm in alabama so i get it that's funny uh jen you mentioned your you
mentioned your partner um from before uh you know a lot of people know you as as jj's dad some people
know you as uh one of the guys behind colberg uh everybody knows you as uh a voice at the race
track and from the podcast talk to me a little bit about um announcing you don't call as nearly as
many races as you as you used to i think we all love it when we get to hear you um talk a little
bit about what announcing and and calling the shots from the from the booth like that uh
meant to you over the years and the kind of role that that's played in kind of in your racing life
well uh thank you for the very kind words troya i'm i've been blessed to be told that a lot over
my time i never believed it one time and i still don't believe it when you said it but uh you know
i i it changed my life let's let's just make it plain and simple um i was i was at the first spring
plane to kind of oversee the races because peter had been to our wfc like the way things ran he and
kyle got there set up at bristol and was going to have the first plane peter called me um asked me
would i be interested in just coming up there and and kind of watching over things just to
make sure we're we don't mess up we're doing everything right we give people what they're
paying for and uh and i said yeah i do that we we worked out an agreement so he's got alan
rinehart there announcing i mean what else you know how how much more perfect can it be and um
i don't know we were we were about it almost a full day in and um alan said hey you know
yeah i need it you know he was the only announcement like i need a break i need i need some help
and i had announced at home um not much but i did some and peter said i don't know what i'm
gonna do i said oh while he's on break i'll go in there handling it's not a problem i got it and
he's like can you do that i said no but i will i mean you need somebody to announce i can get
you through a short period there's no big deal so ironically uh when i went in for my first shift
to try to help uh alan um they they had some kind of rain or something um and had to make an
announcement about a change in the program and peter's like man i hate to put this on you but
he said i need you to tell him this right here and so i did what i do when it's bad
news and i phrased it up you know in my country southern tone and and it just went over as smooth
as glass and he said dude he said not first of all your announcing is great i'm loving it
all i did was read the timeslip y'all know how i do it and he said first of all your announcements
great second of all i just i don't know how that could have gone any smoother i love
the way you you delivered the message he said if you don't mind when we have something else we need
to talk about like that i'm just gonna get you to do it you know i'm perfectly fine with that
so that was all cool it was on live feed um and man i started seeing the people on the chat
bleachers you know talking about oh my god and i like the way this guy does this and this is really
good so they started chatting with them and they people have blown away like the announcer is
talking to us online this is really cool and i thought it was cool because you know you're
you got a broader audience and you're you're speaking to people all over the place so
it's pretty neat for me i live in a really small town so all that went great and the event
worked out the way it worked out and at the end of it i started getting you know calls from
promoters and messages and then listen to you at the fling really like what you do would you be
interested in this or that so before you know it i got on the the big money scene and did some races
and i actually did that about 10 years and had a blast in 2019 2018 i got a divorce in 2019 i
remarried late in 19 and at that point you know it's been tough for a newlywed and you know we're
trying to build a life together so i decided to step back and get out of it just do it sparingly
here there and you know fortunately i got offspring that's halfway decent at it as well so you sure
do he's kind of taken that over and and done his share of it and he's uh he's got some pretty good
races he's still going to get to do this year so um you know it's couldn't have worked out better
it's awesome man and um we have an interesting connection i didn't get to meet you for the
first time in real life until the fling i guess would have been 24 the year that coop chun
got it done and steve kelly introduced me to you uh in real life down there in the lane my man yeah
mine too man that's my brother uh i love him so much and uh we have an interesting connection
in in the announcing world because uh we both are friends with with luke bogack that guy has
met so much to me over the years um more than i can really put into words somebody that i appreciate
more than than i've been able to express to him but when you decided to step away from the summer
and i got a call from luke i remember and he said hey man jet can't make it this year
you think you could come announce and i go i go big jet and he goes yeah man it i'm like you want
me to fill in for big jet and i'm like brother i don't think i don't know man and uh and i certainly
didn't feel your shoes but um it was uh i just remember stepping in there and and knowing that
that was that was your spot and uh and it meant the world to me for luke to give me that opportunity
to follow on your heels and and so your decision to uh to start doing announcing a little more
sparingly um is what opened the door for a guy like me who was trying to do it more and um so
i don't want to say thank you for stepping away but because i love to hear you on the mic but just
an interesting um an interesting connection that i'll always feel like i have with you because
of how it how it all worked out yeah it's a very cool story and tie to to our careers where one
shut down and one got rolling but you do a fantastic job i love listening to you i love you know i love
what steve does uh you guys the tv promotions you're you're really different but you're delivering
the same message your own way and um i think it works very very well that tv promotion has
got one heck of a program those guys really haven't figured out but um you know i i don't i don't
really understand how i was so lucky to be in the position i was in for for the better part of
you know 10 years in big money bracket racing um it was i was very fortunate and i landed at the
right place at the right time but i do and this is gonna sound braggadocious but i certainly don't
mean it to be that way i i do feel a very um proud sense when i hear announcers today doing things
that i feel like i'm kind of brought to the game you know um and and that's a you can imagine how
good that feels when i when i hear people say mathematically ineligible or you know when they
when they say um you know other little phrases that round number next my good
friend brad bluard brought that to the table and he let me use it uh you know just little stuff like
that when i hear those things it's it's really cool well you should brother i learned from you
people and i i have that same feeling people like how'd you get here i'm like i don't know man i
have no idea and i still take pictures in front of every tower and somebody said to me uh at at
vmp they're like they're like man act like you've been here before i'm like man i ain't been here
before so like i'm soaking this up and and uh and i learned how to read a time slip from you uh and
from ryan and from hodge and from steve riggins my man steve riggins this is no slight to you
steve is the guy that really speaks to me i love listening to that guy on the mic um
and and i learned from you guys youtube university man listen to you and steve and and greggy and
when hodge used to call a lot of laps uh you you guys have left your mark on so many of us who
who are holding the mic these days and um i'm glad you feel proud for it because you you should
you laid the you showed us how to do it right well i don't know if i did that or not but uh i
definitely appreciate the kind words again and you know i'm i'm uh i'm not totally done
i will show up here in there and quite honestly i love it i really do i still love to be able
to get on the mic and call races and call laps and throw in my little you know little bit of fun
here and there but um but it's a job man as you know it is a job and especially these big events
these 1200 car events those things are challenging and you can only say
you can only say he was you know nine take seven so many ways but ain't that the truth
man ain't that the truth well i'm glad you still love it and we sure love when you get on it um
and so we'll be looking forward to every time we get to hear you i know we've got a little rapid
fire uh we got a little rapid fire for you don't we parker oh yeah um not three rapid fire questions
for you um favorite track it is really easy Bristol favorite track snack and not the double
low shit show kind yeah no i don't want to talk about any of those tracks that that is either a
corn dog at holiday beach dragway in woodstock alabama they got fantastic corn dogs or the fried
oreos at the lot i'm right or is it a lot best i've ever had i gotta go to both places now
yeah solid picks i've heard i've heard about these fried oreos from multiple people so
not the trap and then done at dun benson yeah dun benson the old dun benson um one last rapid
fire question one song that comes on almost every time you're on the way to the races
one song that comes on so i'm not much of it or that you play like so that's a problem i'm not
much of a playlist guy i like to listen to serious uh prime country or uh white two country or whatever
so i'm not much of a playlist guy i've i've paid my ten dollars to apple music every month and i
think i've got 25 songs on my phone um so not real good at that uh i'm usually shuffle
don't get a chance to listen but in my race car i have a cd player in manoa this guy got ready
got tunes in the in big red i do like to listen to music in the lanes to calm me down um i play it
almost every time i go to the races i'm gonna play i just called to say i love you by stevie
wonder it's it's an amazing song i just called to say i love you oh that's beautiful bro beautiful
i just called to say how much i care i'm with you dog you got it bro and uh that's that's song
number one on the on the burn cd that i have that's how old this is it's a burn cd that went the last
time you did one of those love and song number nine is sweet home alabama i love being in a different
state and turning on the last wind light which i don't get to do very often and and i will play
that in the winter circle every time until my cd is just no good anymore i uh i hope you don't
expect me it's my it's not my turn to sing so get right back on this one you know how that one goes
big jed heard that song oh it's a bunch so many right yeah it's a bunch yes sir
what else we got what we've got one more segment here but i think we'd be remiss to not talk just
a little bit about the sportsman drag racing podcast um one of the reasons we have our podcast
and some of the other ones is was you guys left a vacuum hole like the size of kansas uh you know
once you guys left um it was the place that we all went um when we wanted to hear about what was
going on we wanted to hear top fives we wanted to hear the latest and greatest from you guys and
and you guys covered everything from the big money scene of the class racing and the points chases
you know i i i am holding out hope that maybe every once every couple years will something
will happen that's so big that we're gonna have to have a special edition but um you know we all
still hold on to the to the old episodes and i listen back to them you i know the results
i listen back to them sometimes favorite episodes uh talk a little bit about that show what it meant
to to you and and working with luke i know is a great friend of yours but but obviously a partner
there um and just that show over the years well so i'm the the least technical uh guy you've ever
seen i mean i technology is it scares me okay so um i guess at this point it was about
hey maybe nine years ago luke says hey um i'm thinking about doing a podcast
and i think you'd make the perfect uh co-host with me if you if you want to do it uh full
transparency i had no idea what a podcast was uh but i i didn't tell luke that i said oh absolutely
yeah shoot yeah i do that i thought it was just i thought you just recorded something you were
doing i didn't know he's going to do it every week for seven years um so he told me you know
kind of his idea for it i agreed and it turned into the sportsman drag racing podcast with luke
and jen uh that the experience was one like no other um you know you you guys have a podcast
you you convince yourself that no one's watching most of the time that you're that you're doing
the show or at least they ain't they ain't watching and you know you get to the races you get to the
races in kentucky or tennessee or georgia and people come to you in the lanes go i just want to
say i love podcast it's awesome i love what y'all are doing and you know you're like crap well
somebody is listening um i'm glad you got that kind of feedback all i get is man you need to
quit doing that yeah let's say they really ain't watching ours jen you don't gotta worry about
nothing there ain't nobody no offense to anybody but they were tuning in to watch luke i just happened
to get the benefit of being on there with him but um luke luke was the show uh luke luke come up
with content the things we talked about i prepared very little to none um i would just come on the
show and respond to what he wanted to talk about and sometimes i'd have a little knowledge of it
sometimes i just bull crap my way through it but when it was all said and done you know it was a it
was one of the best experiences especially in in racing that i've ever had or ever will have um
just uh a great format it it got to where just like we talked about that pressure thing
when we knew there was a difficult subject that had to be discussed we were fully committed
to sharing our real opinion and not dressing it up for anybody or anything and as you guys know
that's uh that's a little scary because you know i had a place in racing as a promoter
and an announcer and i didn't want to mess that up but i really enjoyed being able to share my opinion
because people wanted it you know they let us know they wanted hey they had sent us messages
hey you guys need to talk about this right here tonight or our next show and you know it's an
important subject so you knew they wanted to hear what you had to say so you had to be honest
and it created a little hot water for me um there was some uh
sandpaper uh butts during our time on the podcast but you know it was never anything personal it was
just our opinion it wasn't the the holy grail of um you know what what people should think but
it was uh it was a responsibility that we felt for sure and Luke was really good at it he was
good at sharing his opinion got him in some trouble with some people that took it the wrong way
but when it's all said and done one of the coolest things i've ever been a part of
and when luke asked you to do something you don't have to know what it is is it could it fail
if luke's doing it is there any way it could fail i don't think so i uh i you're so right well and we
appreciate it man the show was great it's it's an institution and and to that last point uh i remember
when when luke first hit me up about uh the door car race um i was like i gotta talk to the wife man
i gotta talk to her real quick i hung up the phone and she was like you didn't tell him yes you idiot
so i texted him back within like 38 seconds i was like i'm in uh
yeah and uh you know you talk about those tough shows i remember one in particular and we don't
have to get into it just a just a footnote i remember when the honeywayne situation uh had
happened and and i remember like i was on the edge of my seat for four days waiting for the sportsman
drag racing podcast because that because i knew you were gonna you had to talk about it you know
or it would have been an invalid episode uh and there sure would have lost credibility and you
guys did and you did a fine job i still remember i remember that show very vividly because it was
a big deal at the time and water's under the bridge and everything's all good these days um but it
was one of those things where like you say you're talking about people that you care about people
that you associate with and that hang out and that that may be customers of yours at some point
or um who work for other people that that you know and love and and that you gotta talk about it and
you guys always did a great job of navigating those difficult situations walking the line not sugar
coating it but but you weren't out to bury anybody either you know you just um you just talked about
it and put it out there and and um so we miss it i hope someday there's a special edition um but
it's not we'll uh we'll cherish all the episodes that we got but one of everybody's you see how
i set him up here parker one of everybody's favorite favorite parts of the sportsman drag
racing podcast that we all been missing is olympic athlete adult film star or bracket racer
heck yeah love that you know a lot about one you know a little about one and you know
very little about the other but we're not gonna tell the audience what we don't know which one
yeah you don't know which one of those are in i'm not sure which one i know a lot or a little
about either so this is always fun for me so we're gonna do it right here we're bringing it back

parker kick us off with the first one all right jed so you gotta tell us what one it is so uh
we're gonna kick it off with matt hardy is that an adult film star olympic athlete or sportsman
drag racer okay so the last name obviously um you know you you've done your homework you know to
to kind of put some things that could go any direction uh i always felt like luke was trying to
make me think it was a layup but it was really a shot from the timeline so i was
thinking he was always trying to throw me off i feel like you're going down the same avenue parker
so i'm gonna say matt hardy is a shuffleboard player or or what no not shuffleboard what is the
curling curling curling i think he's a curler in the olympics matt hardy olympic athlete
matt hardy is not an olympic athlete and he's definitely not doing curling he's hailing from
las vegas nevada and he is a sportsman drag racer oh man you should have known that come on matt
you should have come to the footbreak races or something give me a chance you called it man
because when parker sent me this list i'm like oh boy we got him uh he took a page right
out of bogack's book right here i'm gonna bring you the next one
now this is gentleman that you know maybe don't but uh olympic athlete bracket
racer or adult film star dan barefoot dan barefoot well number one if he shows up if he is a racer he
showed up to anything i was announcing that that's a top 10 okay he gets a he gets the decal um
definitely barefoot is a great name um dan barefoot could never be in the adult film industry
okay so i gotta narrow this down to racer or olympic athlete um and i'm gonna say since you guys have
given me a racer you're gonna try to make me think it's an olympic athlete so dan barefoot
is a racer he he runs super street uh on the west coast somewhere oh i love this game so much
as i i am not sure you'll have to help me out here parker let's do the reveal parker dan barefoot
is an olympic athlete i i did not do my full research i was unprepared i don't know what dan
competes in but i know he did get a medal because all of these olympic athletes that i know
did medal in the olympics so he's really good at what he does oh i look at this game he he
competes in the skeleton which is like one of the most badass olympic events that's that it's
like to lose but you're like barely on a little uh sled you know like head first too i think
those guys are a little bit crazy a little crazy dan barefoot i thought it sounded like a
like a bracket racer from the southeast who don't wear no shoes and no racing pants
but i don't know i mean i see a lot of dan barefoot when i'm out here running around on the east
coast man i don't know who we got next parker coming up next in the water box pulling
into the beams ricky johnson ricky johnson man ricky johnson could never be an olympic athlete
because you need a you needed just a really weird name to be in the olympics so nobody in
olympics has got the name johnson or smith or jones so ricky's either going to be a sportsman
drag racer or an adult film star um i feel like the last name johnson is uh is kind of a play
on words for what this guy's known for so i am going to say that out of the great state
of pennsylvania ricky johnson is an adult film star probably lives in the hills of pennsylvania
hey we're one for three or 11 out of three we're we're 33 percent baby look that's all i ever
get that's all look at him go um i'll do your next one um the names the names buddy uh okay racer
adult film star or olympic athlete brincent thrasher well brincent thrasher is someone
near and dear to my heart he races at my home track at holly raceway so i'm two for four baby
look at him go he really well for some reason it popped up that brincent is also an adult film
star so better check your boy yeah we need to talk because he's only 16 oh man oh man it's legal in
alabama i got one more for you here uh we got a couple more but i'll go i'll go with another one
since you were so quick on that one olympic athlete bracket racer or adult film star i can't even say
oh man this game steals so much fun

mary bowcock
mary bowcock is definitely not an adult film star i mean that that sounds like a
decent tie to being an adult film industry but nobody would ever let her go with that name
you know so we should have changed that mary definitely is not a sportsman drag racer because
she would get laughed out of the lanes with a name like bowcock and it is just weird enough
to be an olympic athlete mary is a cross country skier from united states in the olympics
hey my guy is hitting his stride here you are correct mary bowcock is a representative of the
united states olympic team and she is a skier no way yeah she races the super g downhill not cross
country but i bet she did i you know i bet that's how she works out that's close enough brother you
are you are on fire everybody knows the bowcocks are skiing for many generations a quick mid
segment update bro y'all know that's three for five hey we're doing pretty good we're you're
gonna come back that's what we're doing he's got more right than he's got wrong so he got in the
five background and he's he's gonna win from through the five background baby i love this awesome

well first let me say y'all have some of the best names ever
nobody was it did it start with an a was it jake uh a d i c o f f
it could be out of cough but that's not like gold dick off no it's a totally different

arizona that i've been looking for in this game we uh we got him troye we threw another olympic

he is also a skier um and he is a gold medalist in para olympic nordic skiing
oh man yeah that's a sport that i follow very closely i thought you were gonna get that i know

we could put this one over the edge so i didn't see myself a non losing record right here you

oh man that could be us obviously not going to be an olympic athlete we're not going to go back
to back to back on those so jack slayer is either going to be a super comp racer from the midwest
or he's going to be an adult film star from you know probably ohio minnesota up in there
the slayer family from that area i love the geographic references jack slayer uh i haven't
got to see any of his work but there's no doubt in my mind that jack slayer makes his living
doing a nasty as an adult film star ding hey he's going at least 500 today
we're not a losing record it's awesome
now luke when luke did this for me he would tell me you know where what you know what
production i might find this star again i didn't do that much research we did the bare minimum
and we're very specific on the words we type into the google machine yeah you got to be
careful on the google you don't want to get too far out of bounds we got one last opportunity
for you to have a winning record um coming up next mike nut all oh man so that i feel like i'm
cheating because michael nut all is a buddy of mine from the bristol area he was at our race
and he he helped announce some so uh he's my bud and uh that puts me six for ten was that
was that what i was no was i five for 66 and four right six and four so i hit 60 where i
went to school boys that gets you to around next that'll get you through
oh man that's awesome what a great time that was so fun i have a confession to make
my idea at the beginning before i even created this list i was just gonna come up with the list
full of adult film stars and make you guess the whole thing i never would have got that i'll give
you a single other one but uh if i didn't know mike nut all um there's no doubt i would have picked
him as an adult film star well and he sent me the first list and and it had peter north on it i said
brother that's been on their list before and jedd might remember no i know who peter north is yeah
so we had to switch him up for ricky johnson but

in closing you want to get out there anything you want to say to anybody you know uh i could
sit here and talk all night to you guys i've enjoyed this thoroughly but uh just to really
appreciate you too for you know i think people that are in the the setting you're in you're doing
this podcast you're having a good time you're talking about important stuff not so important
stuff but i don't think you guys really understand how you're impacting the sport that we love and
it's very no matter what the subject or the topic or the discussion is you're impacting it in a
positive way so first and foremost i want to say thank you i know the time and dedication
that it takes to do what you guys are doing i i definitely appreciate you on behalf of all your
viewers and the racers that that tune in and um you know i appreciate the opportunity to come in
here and talk about something so near and dear to to me in the wfc so really cool for you guys to
to give us this setting and this foundation to to be able to discuss whatever we want to discuss
and appreciate what y'all do well thanks jen we we've had a lot of fun when parker called me last
september so let's do a podcast i just i just say yes to most everything and uh see how it works out
and it's been a lot of fun and and you know we've taken a little different angle on this podcast
to really focus on west coast racing and shine a light there where where it doesn't get very often
but you put on the world footbreak challenge and the west coast is part of the world
and so uh it it seemed appropriate to get you on here after you guys made history this past weekend
and um like i said before whether it's whether it's for promotions set and set an example on how a race
is supposed to look and feel how it's supposed to sound on the mic you have laid uh you've laid the
tracks for a whole bunch of us and and we stand on your shoulders and so uh we appreciate everything
that you've done uh and that you continue to do uh for this sport for the people in it for the
companies that support it and and certainly for taking time for a couple of dudes from the west
coast to uh to chop it up with you tonight it's been an absolute pleasure but tell us mutual
Troy i appreciate it and again um you know it's very humbling to hear all those kind thoughts
and words and uh just i'm i'm a blessed man that uh that landed in a spot that was better than i
deserved and you know i'm i'm thankful for it and parker parker hit me up uh prior to this podcast
not tonight but prior to the idea and asked me you know what i thought was some of the the good
the bad and i shared honestly with you my thoughts and uh i don't know i'd have to go back and look
at that conversation i don't know how spot on i was but uh but you know it's a it's a challenge to
do this and do it at a at a high level like you guys do and um you should be commended for it
thank you jed uh good luck with um the labor day race coming up good luck in your personal
racing endeavors and especially good luck with uh with your wife and that new baby boy well we

summer door car shootout but uh matt fox and i don't know if you've got to see his name but
it's f u c h s oh and it's called fox and had there not been someone in the tower when i was
supposed to announce it i was like i can't guys in no way i can say this and they said oh no his
name's fox so i i'm probably talking what those names like that i just throw them to chili willy
i just throw chili willy under the bus and let him have no driving's great for that he'll say it

hated to have to quit doing that that was the most fun i've ever had i uh i love big jen and he
just brings out uh all the smiles all the laughs and uh my my cheeks hurt tonight from from smiling
so uh good to have jet on uh looking forward to uh next week we'll have the divisional to talk about
we'll have the national to talk about from sonoma um can't wait to to see the winners there we're
gonna have a night of fire to talk about too i have a car right now sitting 11 feet off the ground
on the lift it has no transmission it ain't wired up it ain't got no radiator it ain't got no gas in
it it ain't got no valve covers on it uh and i am going to have it at woodburn drag strip in 72
hours uh so as soon as we're done i'm headed back to the shop and uh if i don't word on the street
is coop chun might have a fox body for me to drive but that is not in my calculus right now i will
be sitting behind the wheel of domestic dispute and race in my camaro um i will work well into
the morning hours tonight uh to make some progress and i'm hoping that we're gonna fire that bird up
tomorrow set the timing and i'm gonna put it on the trailer love it well we'll get you out of here
hopefully we can talk about you um in the winter circle up there at night firing i'm tripling up
this weekend there's 35 k's or four k's whatever they are i'm when i'm i'm getting out
the broom i'm putting a y'all on notice i'm coming for all three big checks this weekend and i'm
gonna win the shootouts at night too i'm five i'm gonna be number one drag champ top 10 next week
so y'all better watch out and also the most handsome podcast member in the world we're always
