This is what someone who hasn't had sugar in

three hours looks like.

Like, I am the picture of wellness.

You are bouncing off the walls.

You guys, we have so much to talk about.

Last we spoke, I was still eating sugar

and my phone wasn't bricked.

Now I'm bricked and sugar free and I'm,

you're about to be sick of me.

You're a new woman.

Well, here's what I want to start with.

I'm sorry.

How are you?

Let's see.

No, I'm good.

Nothing, nothing new, nothing new to report.

I have my, I've decided my Linton promises.

So I want to go over those, but I haven't told you yet

what they are, but I'm like really dying to know

about the brick actually.

Cause like I don't understand how it works.

I can't wait to dive into this.

First of all, it is Ash Wednesday.

So today for many of us is the start of Lent.

And it's a great time to be bricked.

So first of all, the way that I wish I could be getting paid

for the amount of bricks that I'm about to sell

on this podcast is an incredible invention.

So first of all, look yourself in the,

I mean, everyone has a problem.

Everyone could be on their phone less.

Like that's not a secret.

Now the concept of a brick is like,

you put it on your fridge, you tap your phone to it.

It locks your apps to untap your, to unlock your apps.

You have to retap it.

So you can still of course get to it.

And you know, there's a lot of people who are like,

Oh, I would just unbrick it all the time,

which is totally valid.

But I think the way I've kind of approaching the brick is like,

I'm okay.

If I want to sit down and scroll, I'll unbrick my phone.

The problem is it's me looking at my phone while I'm walking

from the bathroom to the kitchen.

Like that's where I'm just like out of the passive scrolling.

That's where it's like,

I'm waiting for the toaster to pop up and I'm scrolling

on social media and then seeing something upsetting.

Like that's where it's like,

if you want to unbrick it, unbrick it.

That's not what I'm trying to stop.

I can put my phone down and walk outside.

It's, I have got to kick the muscle memory.

Like it's insane because how many times do you find yourself

like on your phone when you're like,

I didn't even want to be on my phone.

I'm so sick of it today.

So enter brick.

Now something I did not know,

which brick is not advertising enough.

So I'm going to do it for them is you can set schedules.

So you don't even have to really use your brick.

I just turned my social media off from the hours of 6 a.m.

to 8 a.m.

Okay.

How is this connected to your phone though?

Like, I have no idea.

I'm not, I'm sorry.

I'm not, I have no idea.

So you don't have to tap it.

You just have it set up on your brick

and now your phone just shuts off.

Well, my social media is shut off.

No, I know, I know.

Yeah, from six to 8 a.m.

So I did that because again,

I don't need to be scrolling my phone in the morning.

Like I'm trying to get the kids ready for school.

Yeah.

And like if I have a spare few seconds,

I will simply like clean the kitchen

or like brush my teeth.

So the morning schedule has been so nice.

And I did that, I did that seven days a week,

six to 8 a.m.

I'm unreachable.

Now I do want to sit,

preface it with this.

When you set up your brick,

they do show you each brick gets five emergency unbricks.

But if you use your five bricks,

you have to buy a new brick.

So like if I ever had to like,

let's say I'm like on vacation,

my phone's bricked and you like, you know,

what would be like Taylor Swift DM me

because she's pregnant and needs to know

what car seat to get.

Like I could go to my settings

and unbrick my phone manually,

but you only get to do that five times.

And then you have to buy a new one.

Wow.

Yeah.

So it's like super emergency.

So it's firm.

Yeah.

So it's for emergencies.

It's for emergencies.

So Kurt, my current schedule is 6am.

I can't be reached.

And then it's five to 8pm.

I also can't be reached.

Okay.

And what apps do you have that you can't be reached?

Because I could call you.

100%.

Great question.

TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Gmail.

You're not getting notifications

and you can't log on.

You can't go on the apps.

And when you click on the app,

it says you're bricked and then it says get back to living.

And I'm like, you know what?

I will get back to living, Brick.

Okay.

So here are my biggest takeaways.

I'm on day like three.

And so I'm only breaking it for five hours a day.

Like it's not that.

And like, again, they're during, it's not,

I'm still scrolling during the day as I want to,

as the job requires.

But here's two things I've done.

One, I'm loving like just pre-recording my Instagram content.

Like if I'm out with the kids and like they do something funny,

like yesterday they were making skulls.

They were making skulls out of rocks and mud.

It's exactly what it sounds like.

It was adorable.

And I was like, oh, this is so fun.

I'm going to post on Instagram, but I was bricked.

So I just took a video of it and then I uploaded it later.

I'm also, I have such a new found,

and I feel like people who give up social media for,

if they ever do like, you know, 30 or 40 days without it,

they're always talking about Pinterest.

Pinterest is an amazing, I did not block Pinterest.

It's an amazing social platform.

Like I went on Pinterest, you know what Pinterest is?

It's only beautiful images of things.

You know what social media is?

Only dooms in horrible stuff.

It's hearing horrible things.

Yeah.

And I'm on Pinterest and I'm like,

I should make that patriotic centerpiece.

Like I would like to try that soup.

Those are cute shoes.

Like it's just beautiful pictures.

Okay.

Pinterest in a big way.

I like, and I just, I had never deleted it off my phone,

but like when you're just, when you're,

it doesn't give you the same dopamine hit

as like a good TikTok scroll sometimes,

but it's better.

Like it's better.

So I've been doing that.

I've also been like obsessed with my notes app

and my reminders app,

because then it's like when I think of something

I want to do or check, like, oh, I want to check in on that.

You know, I did so and so have a baby.

Oh, I wonder about this.

I want to look up this.

I go to my notes app and I write it down.

I'm also finding that like, I'm more,

like if I do need to scroll,

I'm more productive with like things I want to do.

So like for example,

I've been looking for a piece of furniture.

The girls need a dresser in their room.

And like now if I like want to scroll on something,

I'm looking at dressers because like that's productive.

So I'm obsessed.

I'm about to break my phone even longer.

And I, like it's just, and it's not to even,

I'm not even really looking to cut back on my screen time

as much as I'm just not looking to.

Doom scroll.

Doom scroll in between.

Like of course I'm overstimulated.

And then like I'm snapping at my kids because they're asking

for milk during breakfast and I'm looking to take,

like I'm disgusting.

I know.

But I won't enough to admit it.

So I'm bricked.

I'm bricked baby.

Yeah.

That's actually one of my Lenten things is like

working on the doom scrolling.

And maybe the brick is like,

I'm gonna buy you a brick.

The good route because I really can't cap like

my Instagram usage because sometimes I'm editing

like a real or like filming stuff on Instagram,

like whatever it's the job.

It's, it's hard to like cap that.

But like I'm with you.

I've had such a hard time sitting down,

finding time to sit down and come up with my Lenten promises.

Because when I am sitting down,

doing nothing with my kids,

I'm scrolling or putting or when I'm putting them to bed,

like I'm scrolling and it's such a waste of time.

And it's like,

why don't you just sit here and reflect and come up with ideas

or like you said,

do something productive when I'm just sitting here,

like use my freaking brain.

Because between chat GBT and doom scrolling,

I can feel myself getting dumber

and like I need to work my brain.

Yeah.

Elizabeth, not us.

Not on our watch.

And it's so funny.

Dad called me and dad's like,

I heard you got a brick and I'm like, yeah, I did.

He goes, I'm so proud of you.

And I was like,

and like dad just doesn't like calling us that.

No.

He was like, good for you Kelly.

I am so proud of you.

Like, thanks dad.

So it's just the perfect invention because it's,

it realistically cuts back on your screen time.

I can't delete the app.

I do this for a job.

Also, I don't want to delete the app.

I love social media and I learned a lot on social media

and I connect a lot and there is good to be had there.

It's just, I want to be way more intentional about it.

And it is like, I love the scheduling.

Like I don't think I'll ever actually,

I can't picture myself like going to like the brick anymore.

I just like the scheduling.

Yeah.

So I think you should definitely get one.

So I started two days early because I wanted to like,

I was feeling motivated.

I also ate half a gooey butter cake over the weekend.

Disgusting.

Yeah.

Like, you know, it was in most situations where I just like kept

trying to even up the sides.

Uh-huh.

You know what?

I had to teach Maddie.

This is how sun trips eat a dessert.

Okay.

You put some foil over it.

You put it in the corner and you always leave a fork or a knife

inside of the container.

And you just go and you just pick at it and then slowly but surely

there's no more.

Like don't, don't.

We would never.

Oh, we would never commit to.

We would never cut a slice.

Like that's insane.

And like commit and enjoy.

It's like, it's a little here.

It's a little there.

I was like, do not move my fork.

What are you doing washing my fork?

My fork stays in the container.

It's the, it's the Texas sheet cakes fork now.

Yeah.

Yeah.

So I was like, and I also want to start today because I wanted,

I think so many people are doing this journey with me.

So I wanted the podcast to be a more like accurate reflection of

like what you're going through that day if you're starting on

Wednesday.

So not to flex on you, but I, by the time you're listening to

this, I'm two days in and I have never been so, first of all,

micro hobby alert.

I've never been so motivated by something.

And I don't even know what it is.

I think it's that well, and before I go any further with this,

here's one thing I did want to say because I know I've shared

about it a little bit, but I had a really rough Q for health wise.

Like I had my allergic reaction and then I know I shared like bits and

bobs, but like Elizabeth can attest to it.

Like I was not the same.

I really, really struggled with anxiety, with my cortisol, with

my energy levels.

Like there was several months where like I felt like I couldn't be

alone with all four of my kids because I was like, or at least I

felt like I couldn't take them out anywhere because I felt like I

didn't have the energy.

I would look back at my old Instagram stories and I would like

hate myself because I'm like, who is that girl?

How can she do that?

I cannot even imagine doing that.

So due to like some supplementation, a little medication,

a lot of sleep, prioritizing me, time.

I have gotten back to where I was prior to my allergic reaction,

but I just want to say like I would, this is not going to be

for everyone right now.

Like it's not for you right now.

Like I'm in a good spot.

It is so not for me right now.

I'm in a good spot to do this.

But I just want to know like, if you are not in a good spot to do

this, do not feel bad because six weeks ago I was not in the

spot that I am now.

I wanted to get that out of the way.

But I'm ready to go sugar-free.

Well, I am going sugar-free.

So first of all, I'm so excited because I like woke up, you know,

now that I have this mental clarity, I woke up and I was like,

I'm a top charting podcaster.

I could get the author of this sugar fast book to come on our

podcast.

Like, why wouldn't you want to come on?

She's coming on.

How far into the book are you?

Well, I'm day one.

So just like day one.

It's like, it's a devotional every day.

You read it every day.

Okay.

You read it every day.

I gotcha.

So the book gives you, if you're doing it with, here are my rules.

And I'm going to tell you my rules and then I'm going to tell you

what I've done to set myself up for success.

My rules are no processed sugar, no added sugar.

So that's like sweet baby rays can't have it.

That's like ketchup can't have it.

There's sugar in it.

I'm not doing it.

That's sandwich bread.

Can't have it.

You need to find some sourdough ASAP.

Okay.

I can make it.

You need to make me some sourdough ASAP.

I'm not doing maple syrup and honey.

That's me.

I'm not doing it.

I want to deprive myself of not having something sweet.

And I want to, to me, I'm like, I'm already going to suffer so much.

Like I don't, I want to see the spiritual and the physical results

of a true sugar detox.

So I'm not doing maple syrup and honey.

If you want to do it, do it.

I'm also limiting fruit.

The first two weeks, I'm going to eat fruit pretty regularly.

After like the first two weeks, I'm probably going to drop it down to like

berries and maybe an orange.

Like I'm not going to be eating like bananas all day.

Again, that's just me.

So those are my rules.

Now, technically my fast is 48 days because lens, as we know, as we learned last time

is 46 and I started two days early.

So I'm at 48 days here.

The biggest stress, I have to survive three dinner auctions, which you know how much

I love a dinner auction, especially the dessert bar, the dinner auction.

When it's like a homemade carrot cake from a church lady.

Those are my favorite things in the world.

Have to survive three dinner auctions.

Tough.

Considering buying one and putting it in my freezer.

Stay tuned.

Good idea.

So I have to survive the three dinner auctions.

I have to survive a trip to the New York auto show.

Those are like the two biggest events that I have.

Everything else is just like me and my life.

Like, I think it's going to be fine.

Now, you're probably wondering how I'm how I've set myself up for success.

Of course, of course, I'm going to tell you.

Number one is I.

Oh, I am not cutting out.

I'm not doing like artificial sugar.

I am still having Diet Coke.

I know.

Again, this is my journey.

Not yours.

So I'm keeping Diet Coke at least for the first two weeks to get because everyone's

telling me the first two weeks are horrible.

Like the first two weeks, like you, it's your body is detoxing.

And then after that, you stop craving it and it gets a lot easier.

Okay.

So first two weeks and keeping fruit and Diet Coke second two weeks.

I'll be sure to update you guys, but I'm there's no maple syrup or honey to be found.

Okay.

Here's everything I'm doing to set myself up for success.

One, I bought a new water bottle because I have a Stanley love my Stanley.

It's another Stanley.

It's just like in a fun new fresh color.

Okay.

Sure.

Just like something to signal that like you're going to, you got to drink a lot of water

and I need to be like excited to drink water.

And like, I love my copper brown Stanley, but like it just, it's losing its spark for

me.

I need to put it away for a while.

And then I'm sure that come fall, I'll be ready to pull it back out again.

But I need something bright and fun to look at.

Okay.

I'm in my phones also break.

So I'm like trying to find serotonin high forever.

I can't.

Sure.

Do you know what I mean?

What, what color did you get?

Okay.

Well, I haven't bought it yet.

I'm going to target after this recording.

Okay.

Sorry.

I'm going to get a new one.

I'm going to do like a pink or green or a blue or a yellow, like something bright,

something that I don't have.

Okay.

Next, like my biggest, which I don't know if it's just like my experience, but like

my biggest time where I crave sugar or something sweet is at night.

Like we eat dinner and then like I want to like get the kids to bed.

Like I'm always like wanting to like go grab a sweet.

Can't do that.

So in replace of that, I was like, I have to find an amazing new show to watch because

like when the night hits, like I have to look forward to something that's not like

a Reese's egg.

So I started this.

I hope this show is going to turn out for me.

If not someone stop me now and give me a new suggestion, but mom watched it.

It's called Victoria.

It's like, it's like a historical fiction, which I love about Queen Victoria.

Question mark.

Okay.

Well, it was that I love Island.

I'm just like, I'm too.

Why not landman?

I've been talking about landman constantly.

Okay.

Landman did that for me.

Like obviously I was still having trouble, but it was somebody was so excited to like

put the kids to sleep and go watch it.

I need to like my new satisfaction needs to be like, I'm going to get in my bed with

my heating pad, my ice water and my bright pink Stanley and turn on the landman.

Like that's the best I'm getting.

Paramount.

I think it's on Paramount plus.

What I'm not doing is a Reese's egg.

Scroll and tick tock because I can't do those things.

I'm so like, I'm different.

I'm bricked in sugar free.

I'm going to feel like so unplugged when you just watch like the big screen versus

like the tiny screen.

You're like, wow, I'm like so connected.

I watch it together.

I'm like, this is the most quality time we've spent in weeks.

Our marriage is thriving.

That's an excellent idea.

I'll switch to landman because Victoria first episode was slow, but I was hoping it was

going to get better.

Yeah, no.

Finally, I spent the entire evening yesterday once my phone was unplugged looking at sugar

detox transformation videos and pictures because I was like, I need to hear from the

horse's mouth that this is going to change my life.

And every video is this is going to change your life.

Like it is the most amazing thing that you can do for yourself.

Like the skin benefits, the energy, the immune, the weight loss, the bloating loss.

Like everyone says, like the food noise is gone.

Like everyone says it's like the best thing that you can do.

So, what are your Lenten promises?

So, the scrolling, for sure.

I probably should just get a brick.

I don't totally understand my approach to it, but I want to, I don't want to scroll around

my kids.

I need to get a brick.

I'm going to order that today.

Kind of the big area that I'm feeling very like bogged down and distracted and stressed

in my life and it's just like not making me a better person or mother or wife is the chaos

disorganization and the amount of stuff in my home.

Okay.

The stuff that we bring into our home.

Okay, clutter.

That's where my noise is and I really want to have less and I want to work with less

and I want to buy less and I want to just have more systems in place.

So, I wrote down a one through 40 on little notes and I'm going to pull one every day

and I'm going to donate or throw away.

And if it's something really good, I'm going to sell it on Marketplace.

I'm going to donate whatever I get from Marketplace to my church.

I'm going to get rid of that many items.

So, if I pull 37, I'm getting ready 37 things the next day for 40.

One day I might only pull one.

Pull one.

With that, I also made a list of areas in my home that could be consolidated that need

to be organized that need to be like sifted through.

And that list is at 37 places and that could be one drawer.

That could be a kid's toy box.

So, it's something that like kind of depending on the amount of time.

Well, you have to get to 40.

I'm at 37.

I figure throughout the I'll find other areas.

I don't think I have to have them all figured out right now.

But anyway, like James's toy box might not take me very long.

Whereas like my office dresser is going to take me a minute.

So, I can kind of like pick and choose how much time I have that day.

And also, once I pull my number, if it's a high number, I'm like,

okay, I've got to go to this area because I know there's a lot of things that I could pull out.

And I'm just really hoping that by the end of it, I want it to be hard.

Like I want there to be a day where I'm like, I don't know what else to get rid of.

And I just like have to like pick something and then like live with just less.

And I know it's really probably won't even be that hard, which is like disgusting.

I'm just feeling like so bogged down and so distracted.

Oh, and then the other thing I want to do is I have the Hallow app

and I want to like listen to a daily reflection every day.

I just don't do that.

Oh, first of all, Hallow app.

I live in the Hallow app every day and Hallow, you can do something fun.

If you don't know that it is, it is a Catholic app, but it would be good for any Christian to listen to.

The Hallow app, you can schedule, you can put like a schedule in there.

So like every day at 2.50, it's like, hey, listen to this devotion right now

when I'm like driving to the kids school. It's good.

Interesting that you didn't do 46 days just at 40.

So you're not doing it on Sundays.

Well, and you know, I don't know.

I know that like we're going to be if, if I'm going to the auto show, like we do have that trip.

So I was kind of like building in like some buffer days.

Yeah.

But and like that would be like if you added to go to gone up to 46, like that would be so many more items.

No, I know it would be, it would be like hundreds more items.

I'm wondering if you should just do like six more that just say like five, you know, just for like fun.

Yeah.

And again, like I think it's going to all be like kind of subjects to like starting with 40.

But like, you know, I can always add more, but you're not going in any order.

Like you're just picking out a fresh one every day.

No, I just wanted to pick out a fresh one.

And you know what? I actually recently did like a big donation drop off too.

And I'm not including those.

So like I'm really starting.

Yeah.

I want it to be hard.

I don't think it's going to be as hard as you think mainly because I also did a big donation hall recently.

And this weekend I went through all of my kids clothes and yeah, it's so many clothes.

It's so many things.

And I kind of want to talk about just like it's kind of a good topic just to talk about junk.

Yeah.

And consumerism at its worst as always.

And like we just simply have to stop with the chachkies, like the little dollar bin spots.

Like you are just you're lying your money on fire because you're going to throw them away or your kids are going to break them.

Like I decided this year, which I would like to get your take on this.

It was Valentine's Day this past weekend.

I did not get my kids anything for Valentine's Day.

We grew up.

Mom never got us.

Mom would maybe like every couple of years get us something like mom didn't get us a present for Valentine's Day.

I'm just letting you guys know I didn't do that.

I just wanted to say that because like I know what I could have bought and what I could have done and I did not do it.

Well, you see it.

You see it on social media and I saw some people talking about this on social media saying,

Hey, I just want to give everyone like the validation that like if you didn't give your child a Valentine's Day present, that's OK.

There are some people who's like gift giving is their love language and like that brings them joy and that is how they are showing love.

And that is wonderful.

If that's what you want to do.

I don't want anyone to log on a social media and be like, oh shoot.

My husband didn't get my daughter flowers or I didn't do.

I didn't have a Valentine's Day basket for them.

Like that doesn't make you a bad mom.

Our mom actually for the first time, let's say I'm 31, she gave me some candy.

I think that's the first.

She I think that's like the first Valentine's thing she's ever gotten for us.

And like I think Chris is the greatest mom to have ever lived.

Yeah, 100 percent.

She's not a basket gift care package mom.

Right.

And like the kids just got a lot.

Like they got a lot at school.

Yeah.

I don't have to tell you.

So I didn't do it.

And I'm already thinking about like my Easter.

And I kind of had this realization with stockings this year because I was like, remember I said like my stockings are consumable.

I was pregnant with Fred.

Fred just turned three.

And it's agreed.

It's a car that I recommend all the time.

And I mean, it's so hard because like cars obviously don't undergo like a refresh every

single year.

The problem is people don't know that.

And like, so for SEO purposes and like growth purposes, it does do us, it is helpful for

us to do a new tour every single year.

You know, sometimes we try to like take a slightly different angle at it or like I'll bring like

different car seats to like make it fresh because from 23 to from 22 to 23, it was the

exact same Honda pilot.

Now for 26, we got a little bit of a judge.

We got a little bit of an upgrade.

So we're going there.

And speaking of consumerism, I bought the most consumerism type thing on the market,

but I don't know.

I bought a jacket.

It's like a racer jacket that says Honda.

Feels like you'll use that.

Feels like I'll use that.

Yeah.

That felt like a good buy.

Oh, I agree.

So we're going to tour the new Honda, the, the refreshed Honda pilot first time in three

years.

I've been in them several times.

I just don't know why we've never filmed a tour.

I don't know.

We just think like, Oh, we have the tour.

I know.

Well, we've kind of figured it out because here's the problem.

If you guys like people like when we give like behind the scenes BTS.

So the way I get my press cars is through agencies.

Well, one of the, so the agencies are split.

So like some manufacturers go with drive shops.

Some manufacturers go with G Schmitz and drive shop has way more limited inventory.

So like they, they just can't always get me cars.

They also don't have a hub in Chicago.

Their nearest hub is Detroit.

So like they have, if I get a press car, they have to drive from Detroit to St.

Louis.

Right.

It does insane.

Yeah.

Now it's insane that they drive from Chicago to freaking my house every week.

It's insane.

But the problem with G Schmitz is they just don't have, they have like Subaru, Kia, Hyundai,

Ford, GM and drive shop has like Toyota, Honda and a few other ones.

So like for a while there, like G Schmitz is just like always trying to send me like

another Kia Sportage or like a Subaru Outback.

And I'm like always like just touring the press cars that I have in my driveway.

And then you forget that like, okay, well, I haven't had a Honda in forever.

Yeah.

Now we're girls with resources and we're resourceful.

So we have the dealership connection in St. Louis, which allows us to have access to any

car we need.

You know, if our, if our family doesn't have the lot, we've made great relationships

over the years.

So I texted Dave Mungin asked and I'm like, I need to get me in a pilot.

And he goes, come on down.

Yeah.

He doesn't care.

I can't wait to get back in it.

I mean, it is, you know, they, they're, they are the self proclaimed king of the car pool

lane.

Yeah.

They're words not mine.

Yeah.

Cause my word would have been queen of the car pool line.

And it's, and it's a, and it's a great car.

I love a little seat.

Like it's, I'm just, I have, I'm so, this job is so fun because I am just like so more

in it now that I'm thinking about, um, three kids and what that's gonna look like and what

that means.

And, um, I don't know.

I'm just, I'm really excited to look at this with like a totally new perspective because

if you were pregnant with Fred, when we toured that I was pregnant with James, I didn't even

have a kid.

No, we've learned so much.

I know.

We've learned so much.

Um, speaking of being pregnant, which I'm not, um, but kind of a, if you like a part of

motherhood that people don't talk about enough is how hard it is to take care of your younger

kids and feel like you're missing parts of your older kids lives.

And that's just something that's like really been hard on me lately because, you know,

Libby is the Libby and Fred are, it's like they have physical needs, but George and how

do you have emotional needs?

And it's just really hard when I feel like I had to put their emotional needs on the

back burner to meet the physical needs of the littler kids.

I know.

Sure.

Like I, I'm doing everything right.

Like I put Libby to bed and then I get one on one time with George.

Like I'm doing all that, but there are just days where it just doesn't feel like enough

and like I'm just mad that I can't or not mad.

There's just days where sometimes I feel like I'm being robbed of their youth.

I know it sounds dramatic and I know that the good way outweighs the bad because yeah,

I'm not always there, but you have your sister had, you guys can get closer.

I'm giving you the gifts of siblings.

That's just been something that's been hard.

And I'm sure it's harder on me than them, but I don't have any tips.

I'm just letting you guys know that's what I've been dealing with.

Well, I think mom could probably give you some tips on that because I know she certainly

felt that way about us.

No, I feel, I feel the same way.

I actually feel the opposite.

I feel like I'm constantly trying to meet the needs, the never ending demands of a toddler

that I'm missing out on Sloan's like the phases and something that Maddie and I have kind of

realized Sloan was hard because she could only breastfeed and I didn't have enough milk

and whatever.

Like Maddie was very involved with like night feedings with James.

Like him and James had a much better first year of life.

Him and Sloan was much more rocky because like she only wanted me because I breastfed her

for a year and it was also like we just very much defaulted like, okay, well, I'll take

Sloan and you take James.

When this new baby comes, it's going to be like a very big goal of ours that he and that baby

have a better first year than him and Sloan, now him and Sloan, like he could not love

Sloan more.

Like he's, he's, you know, she puts the Saint and Saint John the other day and like she

so does, she's wonderful.

But like we really want to prioritize him and this new baby's relationship.

And so that means like instead of mom defaulting or instead of dad defaulting to go hang out

with the bigger kids, it's like, no, you sit here and feed the, if you know, if this baby

can have formula and everything, you sit here and feed the baby.

I'll go take care of the big kids because I don't want to miss out on the big kids and

we don't want him to not have like this good relationship where he can calm the baby and

the baby like wants to be with him.

Yeah.

So we're going to really try and like prioritize that.

I think that's really smart.

Oh, we'll see how it goes.

I know it's tough because a certain dad is maybe just like once mom and no, it is tough.

And like, you know, I just am also those so proud of my kids.

Like I had such a good weekend with with my older kids.

Like they are just also the weather broke.

So it was like amazing.

But I chose on my Instagram, but like here is just here.

So I feel like even on my bad days, like I do think I'm doing a good job as a mom because

Fred took a marker and colored our pillars outside of our house.

And I've not gone with like, I've never had issues with kids coloring on walls.

So we've just like, we've, we've been, of course it's Fred to be the one to mess it up.

So Fred colored all over the walls and I was like, I was really mad at Fred, like, you

know, Fred got in trouble and I said, okay, Fred, you're going down for a nap.

So I went to go lay down for a nap.

I come back out and George and I go, mommy, we have a surprise for you.

And I'm like, oh, like they wiped off the mark.

It was a, it was a washable marker.

I'm like, oh, they cleaned it up.

Like they're so cute.

No, no, no, no, no, I get out there.

They found white spray paint.

First of all, they shouldn't be playing with spray paint.

And they spray painted over the washable marker.

Oh, I would love to.

I feel like we've been talking, we've been answering some questions

unlike that jump from two to three.

And that unique space, but this is a jump from three to four.

I just like ongoing flexibility.

So I just kind of want your take on it.

Hi, Kelly and Liz.

I'm a mom to three, four year old, three year old, eight month old.

I drive a 2018 Honda Pilot and I am doing three across.

We want at least one more baby soonish and we also want to foster.

Ideally, we won't foster out of birth order.

So if we started now, we would take a baby eight months or younger.

We will likely be buying the car in the next six months to a year.

Once my husband is out of residency.

I know I'm probably looking at a minivan or an expedition,

but curious to your thoughts.

My husband drives a Toyota RAV4.

We would sell his car and he will take the pilot to the car seats.

I have now our two great coastal and pit three LX and a new PIPA.

So I'm just curious.

She's wants to get pregnant, maybe foster her.

What's going to offer her more flexibility with like having four to

five kids, an expedition or a minivan?

Well, an expedition with a bench seat will offer more flexibility than a minivan.

So now the benefit now in terms of like hardware and people,

because the expedition is a wider car than like the Honda Odyssey

would probably be my minivan pick for you.

But the Honda Odyssey doesn't have a car seat tilt, so it has none of the minivan.

I think the Pacifica does the Pacifica does,

but none of the other minivans have a car seat tilt.

So like you're not really, you know, you're going to kind of be,

if you do three across, it's going to be difficult to access the third row.

Additionally, three across in the third row of an expedition,

like if you were ever to have to do that would be a lot easier

than the third row of the Odyssey.

So expedition with a bench, if you have the budget for sure,

but if you don't have the budget, which like, I mean,

the difference in those cars can be up to $40,000.

So like if it's, I think the Odyssey,

especially if you're just going to do five,

like if you're not going to go to six, I think the Odyssey can work.

But probably not very well,

because I feel like with the ages of your kids,

like I'm already thinking like,

okay, so then the three-year-old has to go to the third row.

Well, I guess you could do like a bait.

I'm talking all over the place.

It's hard to know without the ages of the kids what would work.

I'm confident that both would fit.

If you asked me which one was more versatile,

which one would be easier because like there's fitting

and then there's which one fits easier.

They both fit.

The expedition will fit easier.

That's kind of just what I'm getting at.

Like she has, I think she is open to either.

That's what it sounds like.

She's an expedition or a minivan.

And I think that's just the big question is

if you could go either way, obviously budget not included.

Okay, now it's time for industry news,

where I smell the hot tea going on in the auto industry,

and the hottest story that I have to talk about

is the fact that the auto stop button is dead.

They're taking it off cars.

They've changed the legislation because, remember,

I'm not going to get political with you,

but I am just going to let you know that whoever is in office

controls what the manufacturers care about.

You just need to know that going into it.

They don't care about saving the world.

They care about who gives them...

I shouldn't say that, but they're always in it for the tax breaks.

I'm sure some people there care about saving the world,

but ultimately, the big decisions...

It all boils down to money.

Totally.

I said, good news, this feature is dead.

I got so many insane comments who were being like,

oh my gosh, you hate the environment.

Totally missing the point.

The auto stop feature,

which if you don't have a newer car,

counter blessings right now,

because that feature on so many of these cars,

whenever your car came to a complete stop,

it would shut the car off.

Now, some cars, you could turn it off.

Some cars recently stopped giving you the ability to turn it off,

which is insane.

I find this to be a borderline dangerous feature

because sometimes, for example,

if you stop in an intersection,

you don't always have the momentum because your car stopped

for a second.

It sucked.

It was inconvenient.

It was annoying, and it didn't save that much fuel economy.

On a hot day, your AC would just shut off

and you're just like, I'm hot.

What is going on?

This is a two-minute light.

Great.

So annoying.

There are so many more fuel-efficient things

that manufacturers could do that they're not doing,

and then I got on my soapbox about the lack of hybrids available

and how I'm sick of it.

I'm sick of it.

I'm not an EV hater.

I actually love EVs,

and I actually think the EV adoption has been exactly

as I predicted for the country.

It's like the people who want them have them,

and now they have options, and I'm so happy for them.

But for a state to come out and be like,

we're all like California,

we're only going to be EV by this.

Okay, let's be so for real for a second.

How much of your community, how much of your residents

live in apartment complexes,

live in mobile homes,

live in houses without garages?

Okay, so how are they charging these cars?

Yeah.

Like, let's be so for real for like two seconds.

You know how much it costs to buy a new car?

And then what, they're not going to get anything on their trade-in

because gas cars aren't going to be worth anything?

Well, it wouldn't exactly play out like that,

because they would just be new cars.

The goal was just like, hey, have new cars be only EVs.

But it doesn't matter.

It's still just, it's not going to work for everybody,

and we just need to realize that.

It's not going to work for everybody.

And anyway, we also have celebrities and private jets.

So like, let's just calm down

about the fuel economy for a second.

Like, let's just get our priorities straight for like two seconds.

Hybrids are the answer

to a greener America.

Like 1,000%. Here's why.

The same materials it takes to build one EV,

you could build six hybrids.

Okay, so instead of having one person in an EV,

we could have six people in a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

Like, we need more cars that are fuel-efficient

to make a bigger difference.

And the car manufacturers have literally

up until this year, it's getting better this year.

But up until this year, they've done everything

but prioritize hybrids

on their least fuel-efficient cars.

Let me drag a couple of manufacturers for a second.

Ford, I love Ford.

You guys know I love Ford.

Ford put all of their eggs in the F-150 Lightning.

They went after an electric pickup truck

and they took away the hybrid Explorer.

Okay, General Motors.

They were like, you know what?

The GMC Hummer EV.

What?

Yeah, right.

What?

Yeah.

So like they have, so why are they doing hybrids?

They have the technology because they can,

the Hummer is 11,000 pounds and it has a battery in it.

So the Hummer's EV, but your Tahoe's not even a hybrid.

Mm-hmm.

Things that make you go, hmm.

But sure, let's put an auto start stop

and everyone's car to inconvenience them.

But then what we're going to do to offset

our fuel regulations is we're going to come out with an EV that sucks

just so, because then what they do

is then their entire model lineup has an average

and then if they meet that average

that the administration sets,

it's fine.

That's why they come out with stupid EVs

to draw, to bring down their average.

Anyway.

All said, that feature is dead.

And now we are finally starting to get

some hybrid family cars, which is exciting,

which is very exciting.

We have the Grand Highlander, the Lexus TX,

the Palisade.

The Carnival.

The Telluride's going to come out.

The Carnival's going to come out on a hybrid.

We have the Sienna, we have the Chrysler Pacifica.

Like they are coming.

There's not enough.

Mm-hmm.

And I just don't understand, like,

why we still can't have them in the full size,

which you could make the argument

are actually the least fuel efficient cars on the road.

So again, if it was all about fuel economy,

you could focus on making the least fuel efficient cars

more fuel efficient before making stupid electric cars

that no one's asking for, like the Hummer EV.

Just mine.

Just my two.

Such a dumb car.

Sense.

Just kind of, like, interesting.

No, it's so interesting.

Okay, well, now it's time for Ditch the Drive-Thru

where we give you an easy dinner recipe

to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut.

And if I may just give an update,

because, like, I just, like, ranted about my picky eaters

of which I still have.

But I have a new approach to dinner, James.

And I think James is getting older

and he's just, like, growing out of a phase.

So I think that a level of it is I did nothing.

But something that I have,

Maddie and I have noticed,

has been helpful in getting him to eat,

is I just set the table.

Maddie and I eat with him.

So when he, like, sees me, he's kind of like me,

where he has to, like, see someone else eat it

and then it sounds good to him.

Like, he literally threw all of his strawberries on the ground

and I didn't even look at him.

I just took a bite of a strawberry and I was, like,

you know, smacked on it a little bit

because it was delicious and juicing.

He's like, I want that.

I'm like, all right, well, here are your ground strawberries.

Anyway, just removing the pressure around food

has really been helpful.

So I just, like, set it in front of him.

He's like, I don't want that.

I'm like, that's fine.

You don't have to eat it.

And then I eat my meal, Maddie, and I talk.

And then he explores.

He might take a bite.

That is really good.

Some kids need that to sit with him.

It's not, you know, because we tried the,

well, you could have a popsicle.

If you eat your dinner, just take one bite.

Oh, you'll get, your muscles will be so big.

Like, we put all of this,

and we would, we would, like, be jazz,

when he did eat, which also put pressure on it.

We are trying to remove the DNA and all pressure.

And it's just like, here it is.

Take it or leave it.

Eat it or don't.

At this point, I literally don't care.

Cause like, if you're hungry, you'll eat.

And if you're not, you won't.

And the fruit bowl is always open.

That's how we grew up.

So anyway, I know you have a ditch to drive through,

but I just wanted to just,

just, I wanted to applaud my success

because that three nights in a row,

four nights in a row,

my whole family ate their dinner with me.

And I, it was a wonderful feeling.

It's a beautiful thing.

Both, both my kids wanted seconds.

I am starving, I'll be honest,

which they did say is a side effect of going sugar free.

And again, I know what's only been like four hours.

like three meals that I'm making.

And kind of like my approach dinner is like,

it's going to be like, I mean,

I think I'll be able to stomach.

I feel like some really great dinners

and like I'll add sauces to the kids

and I won't add sauce to mine.

It's just kind of like my, my vibe.

So first supper tonight, we're doing hamburger bowls.

So I'm just doing ground beef.

I'm going to fry potatoes

because I can have fried potatoes.

I can have, I can have that lettuce,

pickles, red onion, like chopping it up.

I'm only going to add mustard.

And I think I guess I could add mayo to mine too.

Because the ketchup has sugar in it.

So we're having those for supper tonight.

Tomorrow I'm making a chili and my mother-in-law game.

Oh, I wonder if those jarred jalapenos have sugar off to find out.

We're doing a chili and then we're doing chicken Caesar salad wraps.

Love it, chicken Caesar salad.

So like, well, that's what I'm saying.

Primal Kitchen's Caesar dressing,

it's anchovy and sugar-free and it's unbelievable.

It's so good.

Like I'm craving it right now.

So that's what we're doing.

Okay, great.

Well, something that I made for dinner the other night

that was really great.

It was kind of like a new take on a Mississippi roast.

Which I always look for a new profile for a Mississippi roast.

Oh, I want you to talk about this.

I want to hear how it was.

So instead of doing the ranch packet and the brown gravy packet

like I would do on my Mississippi roast,

I took a Italian dressing seasoning packet

because I wanted to do like an Italian beef.

Portillo's Italian beef was my inspiration.

So it was, first of all,

I think you have to cut your roasts up

to make them shred better

because my last roast I made did not shred.

This one shredded beautifully

and I also added a lot more liquid to it.

So I added like beef stock, the packet.

I added some pepper cheese

and I just like cut it up into three big chunks.

Yeah, that's a good thought

because depending on the size of the roast.

Yeah.

And why not just cut it up?

And then it's like just done.

It'll cook faster.

That feels like a no-brainer.

Exactly.

So then I got hoagie rolls

and I topped it with,

so I took the hoagie rolls,

I put the shredded beef on there,

I put a slice of cheese on top,

popped them in the oven

so the cheese kind of melted

and the bun got a little toasted.

And then on mine I had,

I just added like peppers and stuff

like you can juge it up.

Maddie ate it plain, James ate it plain.

Delicious.

Had it the next day

and if I'm eating leftovers

like in the world of me having the door-dash everything,

if I'm eating leftovers,

you know it was good

and I was so jazzed to have those leftovers the next day.

I simply need to try this.

It was great.

Yeah, I think my fingers would love that

and that's so versatile too.

Like you could also put it in a pasta,

you could just eat it plain.

Yeah, Sloan ate it plain.

Sloan had literally actually ate helpings of it.

Yum.

Yeah.
