and that's what I do.
800-926-7777-800-926-7777.
Todd Chambliss.
Yes.
Welcome back, sir.
Well, thank you.
It is good to be back and again,
here we are in the month of February with January.
I think you said in the Dallas show earlier nationally,
pretty good January overall.
Yeah, sales were up slightly.
Slightly.
From last year.
And last year, January was actually pretty good.
But this year, it's a little different,
parts of the country, especially
where we are in North Texas had a little bit of weather
that kind of mucked up the works a little bit.
You know, there were a lot of parts of the country
that had it, you know, even down in Austin,
they got some of that ice.
Houston was just bitterly cold for them.
So yeah, it kind of wrecked the last week of the month.
Yeah, so with that,
it's one of those things where this might be
another really good time because as you also mentioned before,
used car prices as far as the auctions and everything,
they're not at the very tippy, tippy top,
but they certainly are holding firm
and it's a good time to trade in your vehicle.
Yeah, it is.
They used car values, just mind boggling
how high they got and how high they've stayed.
Yeah.
I think they've, it would appear over the past two weeks.
I've seen a leveling off of the car,
I've seen a leveling off,
but man, some cars are still just bringing huge dollars
and what's crazy and I don't understand this at all.
I don't take saying that lightly,
but used Teslas at the auction
Yeah.
are bringing huge money.
Yeah, that is surprising.
Well, that market's been way off for a while
and I think maybe it's just adjusting now
and it went too low on Teslas
and so if you got a Tesla to trade
and you tried to trade it six months ago,
you might wanna try again
because they're bringing big bucks all of a sudden.
Could be partly, I mean, what you said, certainly true,
but also could be partly because of the announcement
the Tesla made that they're gonna be discontinuing
two of the vehicles they were making.
Yeah, and you know, I wonder,
given the appetite for electric cars in America,
I wonder if Elon isn't transitioning Tesla out.
I could very well see that.
Over time.
And he's not the kind of guy that would do it overnight.
He would slowly take it down,
so you're taking away two of the vehicles
and you are not replacing them.
And that makes me wonder.
Yeah, he still has other models that he's doing,
but two of these, I guess these are the original ones, right?
Yeah, these are the old ones, yeah, maybe not.
Maybe I'm wrong.
Maybe it's just time for an upgrade.
Yeah, maybe so.
Debra in Magnolia, Texas in the Houston area.
Debra, you're first on this week's car pro show kiddo.
How can I help you?
Well, I was wanting to get your opinion
on the Lincoln Nautilus in the reserved trim.
I've driven it and it sure drives good,
but I just want to make sure there's
not any issues that you know of.
I haven't heard anything bad about it at all,
and in fact, everybody that I've helped get one
just raves about it.
I mean, it's a aesthetically beautiful SUV
and then you open the door and you see those screen,
that screen that goes all the way across the vehicle.
And I just, the first one I reviewed and you can,
if you go to my website, Debracarpro.com,
up at the top, there's a search box
that put Nautilus in there
and it'll pull up my most recent review.
And you'll see that I loved it.
Lincoln does the absolute best job with seats
as far as comfort.
They've got those thigh supports that are there.
You can raise the left side or the right side
and bring your thigh up.
And I'm gonna tell you, on a road trip,
that is such a relief to be able to move around
just that little bit of space.
And I'll tell you what,
I don't know of a more comfortable SUV out there at all.
I would get the hybrid if I were you.
That's what I did look at.
Good, good, good, good.
So, if you want-
I put in about a hundred miles a day
so I definitely need something with comfort.
Well, I don't know that you can do any better than that.
If you will talk to my friend, Gilbert Thomas,
he's at Bayway Lincoln.
Bayway is owned by the Wisniewski family.
The Wisniewski's have been friends of mine for 30 years.
And I love the way they operate dealerships.
They are terrific.
They're over on the Gulf Freeway
and they're at my website.
When you're there looking up that review,
then just click on the green button near the top
that says, find a CarPro certified dealer near you.
Talk to Gilbert.
We just got a really nice email on him
just about a week ago, as a matter of fact.
We get him all the time.
Great guy, you'll love him
and you'll love the dealership.
There, but thanks for calling.
I appreciate you and good luck.
Lease or buy, call the CarPro,
1-800-926-7777.
Well, this week is not unlike every other week,
where we always have a classic car of the week,
so a vehicle we put up,
and we've done so on the Facebook page.
If you go to Facebook and find the CarPro show,
or just CarPro actually on Facebook,
you'll see it there.
I already have some guesses.
It is the correct year-making model we're looking for.
It's a chance for you to see it.
It's a chance for you to see it.
It's a chance for you to see it.
It's a chance for you to see it.
It's a chance for you to see it.
It's a chance for you to win your very own auto heat shield
for your car.
This one's a classic for sure,
so you'll need to put your thinking cap on.
If you want to take a gander and then take a guess afterwards,
go to CarPro.com, go to the bottom.
There is a link for the Facebook page.
It'll take you right there.
Then you can like and follow and never miss out
on important stuff on our Facebook page.
If you are used to trying to call in,
the lines are all full.
I will tell you,
I do have one line open right now
on thechays.com CarPro hotline.
Nice.
It's 800-926-7777,
which ironically,
is the exact number that Roy
in Houston called.
Roy, welcome.
Thank you. Good morning.
Thank you very much for taking my phone call.
It's a pleasure.
I have a question.
I just wonder what your thoughts are
on Kia,
the products model.
They're going to buy one
between your citizen
and I'll probably
use it
minimally, maybe like around
20 miles a day
and maybe even do some part-time
lift driving on it. That part
I'm unsure, but do you have any issues
with the Kia Soul? No, I don't.
I've always enjoyed the
now that's not a true statement.
I
started enjoying the Soul
after about
2018.
The first five years
or so of the Soul,
it was
the least expensive SUV
sold in America and there was good reason
for that.
It was really loud inside.
It had a rough
ride, somewhere around 2018
if I remember correctly.
They really upgraded the thing
and it got quieter inside.
They upped the horsepower
but yet the fuel economy
was great and the main thing
for me was they made
it way quieter inside
than it had been in years
past and from that point
on I became a fan
and it was more about
the money. I mean for a lot of years
you could buy a brand new one well under $20,000.
Well those days are gone
and unfortunately
and the Soul
is going away.
We know it's being discontinued.
That doesn't bother me
as far as getting one
but you know the question
is are you thinking
new or used?
Well
you know what, I'm 50-50 on that
new one possibly
but the pre-owned one has $6,000
and been used as a loaner
for people who buy from that
dealership here in Houston
and it has $6,000 on it
so I'm thinking about
I'm sort of in the middle
I don't know if I should go for a new one
or for a pre-owned one.
Well let me tell you
what for me would be
the determining factor there
is the warranty.
If you get the full
10-year 100,000 mile warranty
with that loaner car
then that would be
where that would go.
If not
because
used kios come with a
5-year
60,000 mile warranty
and so
if you're getting the 560
versus the 10-year 100
I'd go with a brand new one
because the incentives right now are really good
they're closing them out
the dealers know
once they're gone they're gone
they'll never get another new key of soul
in and you can get
a bargain on one you can still get one
right now with the deal
at least at my dealers
at carpro.com
you can get one in the low $20,000 range
which is unheard of
right now.
So for me the determining factor
would be the warranty.
Well the warranty right now is prorated
it has 4 years left on it
bumper to bumper
that would cost is $2,025
that would be the pre-owned one
that's prorated again
it's not the new warranty
and what are they asking for
for $20,000
the prorated one
and did you compare
that to a new one
I
sort of did not
but the new one cost like $22,500
I think
if I remember correctly
if the difference is
$1,500
or $2,000
I'm going to go with the new one
because I like loaner cars
but people don't take Carol loaner cars
like they do their own
car
and you know
if it got in a fender bender
it could have been wrecked
and the dealers not telling
you that
check with
one of my key
of dealers at my website
carpro.com
find the closest one
get a price on a new one
before you pull the trigger
on that loaner
and see if they can come closest to that price
they may be able to
Mike
in Houston
Mike what's going on
how can I help you
Yes sir Jerry thanks for taking my call
I'm an Uber driver
and I put a little over
2000 miles a month on my car
I've got a
2021 Ford Edge
with 90,000 miles on it
which I really like but as you know
they discontinued them in 24
right
and as SUV
are you know comparable
size car to the Edge
do you recommend
and you know I'm also looking
at a hybrid possible
I need one with the
the best
comfortable front seat
because I'm in my car a lot
Are you going to buy
are you going new or used
Well I'm looking at a CPO
I was looking at an Acura RDX
you know because they have a
1.49% financing
for 60 months and I was looking
at a new Hyundai
Santa Fe hybrid because they have
zero for 60 months
I was going to recommend the Santa Fe
for Uber
but
you know in a case like yours
and I help a lot of Uber drivers
all over the country
and I typically tell them to go used
and let somebody else take
the first depreciation because
your car is going to be
rough at the end of its life
so
if you could find
a used
Santa Fe which you probably could
I've got some good Hyundai dealers
there in the area
I would tell you to look at that
if you could find a couple of
year old Toyota
Venza
I was looking at a Venza too
they all have a hybrid
yes they're all hybrid
they're 100% hybrid
and they're 100% all wheel drive
which could come in handy for you
I like all wheel drive
I do too
they stopped making them
I think in 24
but
I wouldn't let that bother me
I mean it's a Toyota
they have the best
hybrid system
for me
that would be my top choice
for an Uber vehicle
in an SUV
and the cargo area is really good in it too
so I try to
focus in on one of those
Fred Astoyota World
in Springs the biggest Toyota dealer
in Texas
they'll probably have a used one
and if you'll talk to the general manager there
he's at my website
he'll hook you up

welcome back to the car pro show
with Jerry Reynolds
the car pro and me
Todd Chambliss every single week
the newsletter comes out
it is all the automotive news
it's stories that Jerry has found
it's reviews
it's recalls it's all kinds
information and I know that you work on that
like every single day
you may be working on it right now as far as I know
I do I
finish one send it to Amy
and start a brand new one
I work on it every single day
and you've already got like my majority
of next week's kind of in the canter
you're still working on that so I'm still working on it
but I got some good stuff
I'd like to know could you give us
a little peek yeah
I can do that a little tease and maybe what's
going on we're going to lead off
with
electric cars and the losses
that automakers are taking
on electric cars
it seems significant actually
pretty fascinating
actually
they came out
particularly
the Detroit 3
jumped on
board with both feet
big time
and back in 2017
I wrote a column
and it was very
it went all over the internet
it was titled stop
the electric car insanity
and
in that article
almost over eight years ago
I ended it with
my advice
automakers is to slow down
let the market decide
how soon people
want to transition to all
electrics
this is not a race and if you're trying
to make it a race
you might not like
first place
it's almost like you had a crystal ball
and you were seeing into the future
and they didn't heed your advice did they
as usual
they didn't listen
those three car companies
in the last two months
have written off
$52
billion on
just electric cars and they're not done
oh no
they're not done
gosh
let me just
put $52 billion
in perspective for you
alright because it's a hard number
to visualize I certainly can
you spend a million
dollars a day
okay yep
it would take you
142
years to spend
$52 billion
we're a million a day
a million a day
that's
that certainly
does kind of bring it home
it's just $52 billion
because you hear about those big numbers
thrown about all the time but in real world
numbers when you're talking about
companies like that
that's a lot of money that's down the drain
but wait there's more
oh there's more
think about the losses
that they've incurred
all along for the past
eight years
because they've taken a loss
on every vehicle they've built
every one of them and at one time
Ford Motor Company was losing
and they admit this
$100,000 for
every F-150 lightening
that they've sold
oh my gosh
you can't make that up in volume
no no
so
I write about that
and give you my thoughts
and I give you a breakdown
on which carcass
General Motors
has actually only written off
$6 billion so far
recently
now Ford
was $19.5 billion
and we just found out
when Stellantis
did their fourth quarter
year-end numbers they wrote off
$26 billion
at one shot
so
that will be in next Friday's
free weekly newsletter
if you subscribe today you'll get
yesterday's immediately and you can join along
with all the articles
that were there the recalls

if you want to call now
there's a line

as we go to David
in the Woodlands, Texas
in the Houston area David welcome
what can I help you with sir
Jerry here's my question
first of all you've helped me previously
experience with the carpro show
and I really appreciate it and enjoyed it
thank you sir here's my scenario
I am a regional
sales director
I do about 3,000 to 3,500 miles
a month
I'm looking at
trying to find a mid-size SUV
maybe the
Santa Fe the ref for Equinox
what do we get your opinion
on what I should do
my plan is driving this thing until
the wheels fall off
and I just need to find out
what do you think
which one is the best
I'm going to buy used I'd like to keep it under
25, 26,000
what do you got for me
that's going to be a tough sell
there 25, 26
in today's market
now tell me
David tell me
of your priorities
of the things that are most important to you
what is number one
reliability
making sure it's still
4 or 5 years down the road
I'd like this thing to have 200,000 miles on it
and
we'll keep trucking
your best bet
is a Toyota product
and that includes Lexus
they're the most likely
to do over 200,000 miles
and that's the truth
and look that's not an
indictment of Hyundai
Kia Chevrolet
Nissan any of the rest of them
it's just the Toyotas
their history is
if you do the maintenance
200,000 miles is
almost assured
and that's not true of every car
today
they're all good now for
150,000 pretty much
but if you're going over that
then you got to be careful
I am concerned
about your price range
right now
I would love to see you get a
I'd love to see yeah used
I would love to see you get a hybrid
and if you do
you'll pay a little more up front
but you're going to get that back
as
you put miles on this thing
the economy on the Toyota hybrid
is substantially better
so
have you driven a RAV4
no sir
I've driven neither one
of all three I've driven the Equinox
but I've not driven
either one of them
what are you driving right now
well funny story
I have a 2018
Dodge Ram
that I
had when I started the job
it took
a crud on me and so now here I am
okay
so here's
I'm going to tell you like I
told the earlier caller
that was an Uber driver
if you can find a
Toyota Venza
they're all hybrid they're all
all wheel drive two things that I
really really are
must for me personally
if you can find a used Venza
that's the perfect scenario
it's bigger than the RAV4
I think it's quieter
than the RAV4 and I think it's
I think it rides better than the RAV4
do that I think that's a good start
interesting analysis from
Lending Tree and
this in the news section of our
car pro newsletter about
alarming trans and auto loan habits
and they looked at over
66,000 credit reports
and they discovered that older
borrowers carrying larger
balances younger drivers
are devoting a higher share of their
income to car payments and
then of course there's the actual
months that you've financed going
I mean back in the day 60 was sort of
the norm now 72, 84
could it go to 96 eventually
oh god I hope not boy it's a bad trend for sure
I don't like 84 now
no I don't either it's just a bad idea
if you want to get buried in a car
where you can't get out go 84
months it's
it's just if
you got to go 84 months to get the payment
that you want
you're buying too much car
that's a good rule of thumb
find a used one
that is similar
and by that don't go
84 months I don't care what any dealer
I don't care if one of my dealers
tells you that
84 months is okay 84 months
is not okay yeah
try to look
at alternatives let's talk
to Steve in spring Texas
north of Houston Steve welcome
we're going to help you with
hey Jerry
nice to talk to you thanks pal
my wife
has to be moved
around in a wheelchair
and
uh
we've got a
a Honda Accord
a Coupe
and it's got a
big
passenger side door
and so she can
you know kind of get out of the wheelchair
stand up holding on to
the door
and then
swivel around and kind of drop
herself in on the front seat
and
we have to kind of swing her legs in a little bit
yeah I have to help guide her
and
I pulled the wheelchair
and she drove in the trunk and off we go
and I pull her out
you know we open the door pull her out
and
she's got to do her little pirouette
and drop into the chair
I'm looking for
a better way
or a car that has
a bigger front
door
that she can swing her legs around
and
be more comfortable
uh we're in the woodlands
we have to go down to
downtown to doctor appointments
and you know an hour is okay
but
and an hour and a half
she can you know be kind of kicking underneath
the dash
so I had a
2006 Accord
unfortunately we got T-Bones
and I found this other one
uh much newer
a 17
and it still works pretty good
but
to get into it we've got a suburban
and I've got some wooden
steps rigged up so she can
sort of work her way up
but we're looking for
a car that has
a reasonable you know
ingress and egress
are you thinking at any point
in the future you're going to have to go to a lift
I'm thinking there I'm already there
okay where we
just wheeler in
and you know have a
you know a sliding door
yeah that's
that's the answer
a van
a minivan is the answer
for you you know
at some point
you may not be able
to help her as much as you can today
and
the van just seems to me like it would be
a great great alternative
now
most people go with
the Honda Odyssey
and and and I used to
when I was in the car business I used to
stock handicap vans
and what we learned with vans
was that Honda had a
lower floor
and it made it easier to put a lift in
so if I were you
and look there's used ones out there
I'd go with a used one
because most of the time they're very
low mileage and much much
cheaper so
I would look at that if I were you
I'm sorry that we're out of time Steve
but good luck

extremely pleased with the whole experience
all the individuals there
starting with owner James Seal
the salesperson he worked with Kyle
and the whole staff there from the manager
sales manager and finance manager on
down I was worried about him
too because he had a
2025 Ford
Explorer they hadn't had all that long
and James and his crew
made it made it happen
worked a miracle didn't they yeah I'd say so
they were all professional
and kind says didn't know it could go
any better than it could but he was
very pleased with the outcome
and he said they got the VIP treatment
he says that this is the first class dealership
and thank you Jerry for setting
everything up and getting the ball rolling
I didn't know the back story about the Explorer
being only a 25 so that's
that's amazing brand new dealership
