Welcome to the CarPro Show. Jerry Reynolds the CarPro
was in the auto industry for over 35 years.
And in addition to getting his sixth win from the Texas Auto Writers Association
for Best Radio Show in Texas,
he's a member of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
Along with fellow members Dan Rather and George Carlin.
His co-host Todd Chambliss just became a member of Applebee's Hall of Fame
for finishing off 84 check-in nuggets without using a dipping sauce.
Now let's get to straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive.
On the CarPro Show.
Thank you for joining us. We do appreciate it.
This is the CarPro Show and we are here for just one thing.
And that is to give you straight talk and honest answers about everything automotive.
I will be happy to do that.
I will not, I just, I don't have the knowledge to take mechanical questions,
but if you're thinking about making a move, timing is right.
Everything is lined up right now.
High trade values, big incentives.
We just, the incentives in the past couple of weeks have just been outstanding.
And they continue to get better.
I'm seeing, I'm seeing automakers that announced new incentives a week ago,
upped them in a week's time.
They were already okay though.
They were, they were great.
And all of a sudden they upped them.
And that is, that's the kind of stuff that only happens in this most magical time of a year
to get yourself a new ride.
So here's all you need to do.
Let me know what you're thinking about doing.
Run it past me.
I'll tell you, yep, that's a great idea.
Or I'll tell you, yeah, I don't know about that so much.
Or I'm, you know, if I tell you that's not a good idea, I'll give you a good idea.
And then you can make a decision.
All you need to do is call thechades.com carprohotline at 800-926-7777-800-926-7777.
Keep that number because there's a really good chance you're going to get a busy signal.
So when you hear us go to a break or somebody hangs up for some reason, call then.
I want to talk to you.
We've just got a limited number of lines.
And the last stat I saw, which was a while back, we had some crazy number like 800 people per hour trying to call.
Really?
Yeah.
And I mean, obviously nobody, you can't get through with that sort of thing.
So you kind of got to be strategic about it.
800-926-7777.
That is thechades.com carprohotline, C-H-A-I-Z.
And they help my listeners get extended warranties.
Todd Chambliss is here.
Yes, sir.
And I noticed on the new Mr. Announcer open for the show that it mentions that you're now an inductee.
You are a member full standing of the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.
I am, actually.
And all kinds of other accolades.
Meanwhile, I'm apparently in the Applebee's Hall of Fame.
You told me earlier in the week, you know what?
I think Mr. Annouch is going to go and let up on you.
I thought he was going to expound a little more on the Texas Radio Hall of Fame thing.
That was sort of the idea.
But he had a little fun too while he had some time.
I said, Todd, I don't think he's going to make fun of you.
Then I got the actual recordings of what you heard as we came on.
And I sent him to Todd and I went, I lied.
You're going to get made fun of.
That's fine, whatever.
All in good fun, as they say.
You know, Kevin held that role for 23 years.
You've been here a year and a half.
I think I have a little time I need to spend before I start to get.
You're way behind the power curve.
That's exactly right.
The newsletter came out yesterday.
Number one clicked item in that newsletter was an original piece of advice written by yours truly.
This is Texas Radio Hall of Fame stuff right here, pal.
That's right.
They don't change the open of the show for nothing.
That's exactly right.
That's right.
And the column that I wrote is when it's time to say goodbye to your car.
I get that question a lot.
And I guess they're afraid to let go either financially or just emotionally.
Yeah, both.
Yeah.
Both.
I kind of addressed both those.
This was a topic I really kind of didn't want to get into because it's complicated.
And it's hard to write about because everybody's case is different.
So I kind of cleared my mind and said, all right, I'm going to tackle this one.
And apparently everybody liked it.
Yeah.
Number one on the list.
Number one.
Far beyond far above our videos of the week.
That's for sure.
Yeah, especially yours.
Well, that was that was kind of tough, but you know, kind of course, but all right then.
Yeah.
Yours was above mine.
We were right there.
Kind of mid pack six and seven.
Number six.
Number above ours is Amy's review of the Lexus RX 350.
Oh, yeah.
Which, of course, so popular.
Which did a lot better than my review of the Ram 2500 warlock, which is a beast of a vehicle.
Big one.
Yeah.
Let's go to the phones.
Gary and Gary, thank you for calling back.
Gary was on hold on the Dallas show when we ran out of time.
Y'all got it.
And so I'm glad you called back, sir.
What could I do for you?
Thank you, Derek.
Can you hear me?
Okay.
I just I certainly can sir.
Okay.
Long time listener.
I moved to Florida a couple of years ago and I stream your show as often as I can.
Thank you.
So what you your feedback and your information is very valuable.
The question is for my daughter's Jeep Wrangler 4XE 2025.
It's under two recalls, both of them suggesting to park it on the street and don't drive it
because of fire hazard.
Yes.
It's at least being called no fixes in in the works that we know of.
And my question is, is there any recourse?
Is there any way to have assistance from the Jeep dealer or anybody?
Because this is her single car.
It's without a car.
It's really doubtful.
And here's the reason, Gary.
I figured that would be your answer.
Yeah.
And I hate it.
I wish it wasn't my answer.
But the truth is there's and I we had this news.
We had this recall in the newsletter.
And I think the the the body of people out there waiting for them to figure out what
to do is somewhere around 100,000 people.
They can't replace all those vehicles.
And so and look, this this that kind of recall has become more and more common.
The these cards have gotten complicated.
They will set.
They can be sitting in your driveway and just combust and Hyundai had the issue.
This was going on when I was in the Ford business and that was 20 years ago.
So, you know, it's just one of those sad things that it's great advice to leave it
outside, but she's just going to have to ride it out.
That's not going to fall under any lemon law.
It's a recall.
They'll get to the bottom of it.
Hopefully they'll give her a loan car when she takes it in to get fixed for the
eventual whatever it is they got to do.
I'm sorry to give you the bad news.
Welcome back to the car pros show.
Ty Chambers with the car pro Jerry Reynolds before we went to break Gary Gary from
Florida was on the line with a Jerry talking about a cheap recall and the
break came up too quickly.
So Jerry wanted to go back and kind of finish the call with him.
Yeah, I hate to leave somebody hanging.
Gary, I will tell you that I absolutely would stress to her to continue to park
the Jeep outside until they get this fix.
And I can promise you they are working diligently on this.
They want to get this behind them just as quick as they possibly can.
So, you know, I don't have any dealers in Florida.
I did it one time.
We were on there in Tampa for a while.
But wow, that group of dealers in that particular place.
I couldn't deal with them.
I totally understand.
I'm sorry to interrupt.
But yes, I totally understand.
There's no comparison to the dealers in Texas.
No, there's not.
That's only the second market that's ever happened in Phoenix was the other one.
Phoenix.
Really?
Everybody was a crook.
That's crazy.
I know.
So what else can I help you with real quick?
No, I'll let you go, but it's just frustrating.
She's going to pay $500 or $10,000 in lease payments until this gets fixed based on the
prognosis.
So she's got to go buy another car, basically.
Yeah.
So anyway, that's the frustration.
But thank you for your time.
Hey, my pleasure.
And I'm sorry that happened to her.
I really am.
I'm so sorry that happened to her.
And they'll get to the bottom of it.
I wish there were just a better answer.
Let's go to Hersad, I think.
Hersad?
Yeah, Hersad Patel.
Hersad, welcome.
What can I help you with?
Thank you, Jerry.
I'm from Dallas area and I listen to you every Saturday.
You and Todd.
Well, thank you.
Thanks.
Yeah, I have a question.
I have a Honda CRV, which is 2015, less than 60,000 miles.
We're retired.
Both of us, me and my wife live in DFW area.
Yeah.
And, you know, like I was listening to your show and you were saying about hybrid.
I wanted to know if hybrid is good for local driving or a highway driving.
It's actually better for city driving.
Now, yeah, for city driving because you're driving partly on the battery when you're
in town at slower speeds, 35 to 40 miles an hour.
You're running sometimes on all battery.
So it's better in town.
Now, amazingly, the hybrids get really good mileage on the highway too.
It's just typically not as good as it is in town.
So, okay.
So which one would you recommend between Honda?
I mean, Hyundai Tucson or Honda CRV or Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX-5.
They all have, I believe, hybrid in that same size.
I admit to being biased toward Toyota when it comes to hybrids because they've been doing
it so long.
They invented the hybrid.
It's been, I believe, 28 years now that they've been building hybrid engines.
Now everybody else is on the bandwagon and that's great.
But I don't have history on the rest of them.
Now, I will tell you, Honda has done a great job with their hybrids.
Will they go 200,000 miles like I know a Toyota will?
I can't say that yet.
My gut feel is the Honda hybrid system is great.
If I were going to take a gamble and I wanted a Honda, it would be on the hybrid.
So, you know, I think the safe bet is the RAV4 hybrid.
I would not shut the door on a Honda hybrid.
They're doing really well.
Right.
So, you know, like we have a low mileage lease option.
Would I have to pay taxes also like up front if I pay up all the lease payment?
No, you don't have to.
If you put money down on a lease, it's gone at the end of the lease.
So, that's why I tell people only put a minimum down.
Now, if you're going to trade your 2015, what I would do is I would take the money out of the CRV that you have,
put the TTL down and pocket the rest of it and don't put it down on the vehicle.
Save it next time when you go to get a vehicle.
If leasing wasn't right for you, then you've got money to put down on a purchase.
If you hold part of the money back from your trade-in.
I've got Freeman Toyota in Hurst.
I've got Vandergriff Honda in Arlington.
Both great places, both of them are at carpro.com.
Be sure you talk to my contacts there.
There's a lot to learn about buying or leasing your next truck or car.
Jerry Reynolds, the carpro will help you.
Call the carpro show, 1-800-926-7777.
And next up is Justin in Sherman, Texas.
Justin, welcome. How can I help you?
Yeah, I've got a 2022 Tahoe, my country.
Yeah.
That I bought used with 40,000 miles on it and it's got the 6-2 in it.
Okay, did you get wrapped up in that recall?
Yes, the engine went out in it and they put a new one in it at roughly 70,000 miles.
Yeah.
So I put 5,000 miles on the new engine.
Is that thing worth keeping or do I need to get rid of it?
Good God, man. Why would you get rid of a beautiful Tahoe with a brand new engine?
Well, I don't know their recall.
All they did was change the weight of the oil in it.
Well, yours wasn't affected then.
That's how they could tell if it was going to go out or not.
That was part of the process and it's been incredibly accurate.
I know, I can't tell you how many people I've talked to about the 6.2 and I love that engine.
I had an Escalade with it 10 years ago and I loved it then and I love it still today.
So yeah, they had a hiccup.
They figured it out.
The people who got new engines got a great one and I've had that question before with people
who actually got the new engine.
I mean, the answer is if you want to trade, trade.
If you're thinking about trading because of the 6.2, don't do that.
That's throwing money away and you've got a good engine there.
They determined that yours wasn't going to have a problem and I promise you it ain't going to have a problem.
If it has a problem, it'll be way down the road, not any time soon.
Well, that's what I was wondering.
I mean, I never drive the car.
It's my wife's car so I was just making sure that it was going to last a while.
What do you drive?
I drive a 2018 GMC Denali with a Duramax in it.
You guys got good car taste.
I love you.
That's awesome.
Yes, sir.
You do.
I like that.
I love it when people love their cars.
You don't need to do anything.
She's going to be fine.
Put her mind to these.
Tell her I said simmer down and everything's going to be okay.

There you go.
Next week's newsletter, a vice column.
I tackled another subject that I've never tackled before.
Oh, look at you.
Uncharted Territories.
Yeah, I'm kind of on.
I wanted to add some new stuff to the FAQ page.
So I thought, all right.
Because I've been refreshing articles that were already there,
and I thought, I just need something new.
Okay.
So I did the article this week about when to say goodbye to your
car.
That was in yesterday's newsletter.
The most clicked item in the newsletter.
Next week, good chance this is going to be the most clicked
item, too.
Okay.
I'll warn you now.
Excuse me.
Your video.
Your video is probably going to be very low next week.
Why even bother then if you're going to write something like
that?
You're building this thing up.
The topic is why the MPG readout on my car is never correct.
Now that's controversial right there.
Because we all just assume it's correct.
They've got federal regulations in place for everything else.
You figure that's probably right.
No.
No.
Okay.
Well, I can't.
I'll have to wait and read the article next week, I guess.
I had to do a lot of research on this one to figure out what's the
right answer.
Okay.
I think I got it.
Next week in the newsletter, if you want yesterday's newsletter,
now all you got to do is subscribe today.
You'll get it in your inbox immediately.
Yeah.
It's free.
Yeah.
And you can find out about used car prices being at the highest in
18 months.
That's amazing.
I wrote a commentary piece on Ford talking about, and I suspect it
will happen, them discontinuing the lightning electric truck.
So to figure that was going to happen.
Which they dubbed early on as the next Model T.
Okay.
It's not.
Or the next Edsel.
It could be that, maybe.
Let's go to California.
Jay, Encino Hills.
Brother, you got some, you got some weather coming there, don't you?
Yeah, it's raining here.
Thank you for coming to us.
Man.
It's a long time waiting to talk to you.
You too, buddy.
What can I help you with?
I have like planning to buy a Lexus RX 350.
I have already RX 2007, which was they had technology at the time.
But the problem is like, I don't like the front of the Lexus.
Every time I go, I look around and drive and then I come back.
The new model is the new model coming in.
No, I don't think there's any big change in the 2026 that I recall.
And I, boy, it's so hard to keep up with all the new ones coming at us.
I don't think there's, I don't think that if they make changes in 2026, I don't think they're major.
So I imagine that you're probably going to be looking at that same front end.
But I would like to point out one thing.
When you, when you're driving that wonderful SUV, you can't see the grill.
I know.
That's why we're going to see go to the front.
I hate it.
Everybody look at it.
Oh, that's a beautiful car.
Well, and I get it.
They've toned it down.
I mean, that grill used to be 10 years ago.
It was even crazier than it is today.
But it's still the number one luxury SUV selling.
It's the number one selling luxury SUV in America.
And it's because it's because it's so good.
It's just so good.
Yeah.
I know.
I'd love to drive.
I have a still keeping it.
What is your thought between NX 350 hybrid and RX 350 hybrid?
How do you compare them?
Well, look, I, I'm, I know I'm biased toward Toyota and Lexus as hybrid SUVs.
I'm not, I'm not biased toward the brand.
I'm biased toward their like their hybrid system because it's so damn good.
But you know, that doesn't matter really.
Yeah.
I mean, it's, you're going to, you're going to likely get 250,000 miles out of a
hybrid battery in a Toyota or Lexus and 300,000 miles is not unusual.
Now, one thing you might think both are okay.
I mean, I'm almost 70 and then I don't want big talk.
You know, I, I like RX 350, but sometimes I also consider buying NX 350 hybrid too.
Yeah.
And, and I think it would be fine.
I do.
It's, you know, how many miles a year are you driving?
I'm not really, I'm local driver.
Okay.
So I don't, I don't want to drive too far.
Even if it, even if it's only good to 150,000 miles, that's probably more than 10 years
for you and you'll be ready to trade.
That's okay.
That's not a question, but I mean, like, which one is better, which one is okay among those
and any dealership you recommend nearby?
I have Ontario Lexus.
Yeah, I've got, if you go with the Lexus, I've got two great Lexus dealers in Southern
California.
I've got one in Manhattan Beach and I've got one in Newport Beach and they're both, they're
more than 10 years or more.
Go to my website, carpro.com and, and click on find a car pro certified dealer near me
and the closest one will pull up.
The contact will be there.
Be sure you talk to him or her and let's see what we can do for you.
And we'd love to.
I, I know you don't like the front end, but honest to goodness.
If you, if you just can get past that, it's just such a wonderful, wonderful SUV.
And, you know, when I see a car that people buy again and again and again, that tells
me a lot.
And I, and I don't think there's any vehicle sold in America that's got the retention of
repeat business that the Lexus RX has.
And that's the truth.
Art's at a none of that.
It is.
Yeah.
It is.
You've had Lexus in your past.
Didn't have the RX, but.
Oh yeah.
The GX.
The GX and my gosh, what a, one of the best rides I've ever had in my life.
Yeah.
Oh, just comfortable.
It was dependable.
It was a great car.
And well, I, I had wanderlust and there was something new and shiny.
I wanted.
That's why I got rid of it.
The only reason.
You know, and I imagine what I have sitting out in the garage today.
It's not helping.
Not get you thinking again.
It's already happened.
Yes.
The Hyundai Palisade hybrid.
The calligraphy hybrid.
Beautiful car and very modern looking in the front there.
It is.
The grill and everything.
The lights.
I was very blessed to get the, the first one they sent to Texas.
You know why don't you?
Is your Texas ready?
All the things.
That's exactly right.
The reason why.
Of course.
I had the calligraphy gas version a couple of months ago.
This is the new hybrid.
I will have that review in next week's free newsletter.
And I even do the math for you on does the hybrid pay for itself?
I want a fast car.
And I want it now.
Before you buy or lease your next car truck or SUV called Jerry Reynolds at the car pro
show one hundred nine two six seventy seven seventy seven.
In this week's newsletter, the quick shifts is a bunch of great automotive stories that Jerry
collects and he talks about in rights every single week.
And I learned something new today.
I had heard of SEMA, but it's a specialty equipment market association.
Yeah, that's a fun convention.
I'll bet that's like aftermarket stuff for the automotive industry.
And it's in Las Vegas.
It's in Vegas.
Of course.
Well, Toyota showed it with their Tacoma H two overlander concept car.
Hydrogen powered off road.
Yeah.
Apparently five hundred forty seven horsepower.
It's got a twenty five kilowatt battery and it's three hydrogen tank.
It's a big, big beast of a vehicle.
Yes, it is.
And apparently the kicker, the kicker in the story, the tailpipe doesn't spew exhaust.
It spits water that you could shower with because of the hydrogen.
All hydrogen cars emit water.
So for the environment, it's obviously a very good thing.
Does anybody try to collect that water and do anything with it?
Like drinking or keep the streets clean?
Yeah.
You know, there's a lot of pluses to it, but it'll never be popular here.
Couldn't really.
I mean, from a cost perspective, you really couldn't afford to drive.
Oh, my God, that'd be so stinking expensive.
Some there's been a few automakers tried to make the hydrogen thing work.
I think there's like three get three stations in the entire country that you
could get hydrogen to put in your car.
Besides the cost.
What is the con or the downside of all that?
Just the lack of stations to find your actual hydrogen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I got it.
But they are clean.
And I hear I'm never driven one, but I hear that they performed very well.
Good.
Let's go to Houston.
We talked to Jerry.
Jerry, welcome.
Thank you for holding my friend.
How can I help you?
Jerry, I appreciate you taking my call this week.
You bet.
I called you last called you last week about a storm damage from hail and corpus.
I remember I followed every everything you said.
They originally wanted to do a repair until I told them that my repair shop was 250
miles away and then all of a sudden they went to a total.
So they made me an offer on the vehicle, which is low.
They offered me 20,000 for it retail on it right now.
According to the dealership I'm dealing with and they used a 300 mile radius is
about $24,000 on the vehicle.
Yep.
I provided them with the trade in value from the dealership, which they
offered, they would have given me $22,000 for the vehicle because they've
serviced it.
They know the vehicle.
Yeah.
They gave me a JD power assessment, which was between 23,000 and $26,000 for retail.
And then they also gave me a dealer listing for a comparable vehicle within a 300 mile
radius.
And there were six vehicles between 91 and 97,000 miles price between 23,000 and $28,000.
All right.
So all of the insurance company and they want to argue and say those vehicles are for sale.
They're not.
They haven't been sold.
Are you dealing with progressive?
Yes, sir.
I sure am.
How did you guess?
Because I just battled them on this exact same thing yesterday.
Oh my.
97,000 miles CRV.
And okay.
They were offering 17.
I sent them proof of everything that they were $1,500 low.
I gave them my credentials.
I even went to the media department and said, I'm going to slam you sons of guns on that
didn't say gun on the radio.
If you don't treat this lady right.
I could not move them.
Oh, still at the end.
They're telling me they're telling me they won't do anything.
I'm threatening to go to the Texas State Insurance Commission, which you should, which you should.
And they said, and they said, go right ahead.
And that was their response.
That's exactly right.
They play hardball to the bitter end.
I know another lady in Dallas that had a diminished value claim against them.
She sued them.
She won.
If you're in Dallas, Fort Worth right now, the name was Gloria Campos.
And she was a newscaster here.
Oh, yeah.
She won.
She didn't she didn't gain anything because she spent more on attorney fees, but she won
and she was happy.
I wish I had a magic answer, pal.
